The dining experience at the dining hall there was terrible. Endless waiting between courses. Everyone was waiting for nothing.

We (group of 4) joined 3 nights aurora viewing tour between Sep 26th and 29th. We were happy with their service and professionalism. It was a good way of seeing aurora for the people trying first time. I will recommend Aurora Village to any of my friend.

One of the best experience we had in Yellowknife. Seeing Aurora for the first time in Aurora Village gave such a unique experience. It is a must visit place if you come to Yellowknife.

Rika is one of the best , responsible tour guild I have ever met , when we have serious delay flight , and finally got cancel at midnight , she came to airport and help us out . Truly amazing and sweet . Aurora tour you are really lucky to have Rika such a great worker and person working in . Again thank you for Rika makes our tour wonderful By Ed

Speaking only of the store they have at this location: It's just run of the mill Canadian tourist trinkets, almost identical to what you'd find anywhere else in Canada. Some of the prices were average, and other things were extremely marked up.

Kylie Clow

We did the Aurora and Dog sledding tour. The venue is gorgeous and has lots of activities to do when waiting for the main event. However that's where my praise stops. It's obvious this company is going for volume of people and it feels that way. On the night we did the aurora the dining hall was closed as well as many little walking trails. There was no compensation or Even a sorry for this. We unfortunately had a cloudy night(not there fault at all) but they still kept asking us to extend our time for an extra fee. I feel if you see nothing that should be a complementary option. Our dog tour was well run and the dogs were gorgeous but again you were a number being pumped through the system. It lacks personal touches, customer service and the history of the natives. I'm sure there is a lot of interesting stories that could be told both about dog sledding and the aurora. I wouldn't go back to them but the site was pretty

Amazing. First Nation peoples in control of a busy environment that attracts hundreds of people at night mid winter. Absolutly incredible.

Well the experience of aurora is always one of a kind. It's hard to take picture of it but you can always play in your camera settings. YOU NEED A TRIPOD to take great photo. The tour guides are very friendly and nice. The hot choco in the tent is awesome! The photographer are not so nice and won't tell instruction if you want to take professional grade pic with aurora.( quite understandable as the aurora changes and might be gone after a couple of mins) So just stay still and smile. The whole experience is way better in person and aurora is more beautiful with your eyes.

Dariana Garcia

What an incredible experience! Not only we could see a majestic northern lights but also this tour company took us to a perfect spot where we saw the Aurora! Plus, they have heated sits that it moves around 360°. We fall asleep in our sits while waiting. Our guide was a lovely lady and the whole compound was great. Thank you!

Best place to view the Northern lights. The staff at Aurora village takes atmost care of tourists. The arrangements at the village is great.

(Translated) I didn’t see Aurora when I went to Iceland. This happened to be a backpacker. I found a travel companion and joined Aurora Village. I really didn't let me down. I spent five days in the yellow knife. I saw the aurora in five days. It was also a big explosion. The aurora would dance. I was wearing a snowsuit. I was lying on the ground and watching the aurora. It was really romantic. I felt that my life was very colorful. There are Chinese tour guides. They are very serious. There are special shuttle buses to and from the back and forth. You can go to the tents to drink hot drinks. Warm your body. Wait for the aurora to appear. Huangdao Town Aurora The exit rate is really high. I watched the five-day Aurora and participated in their dog sled fishing. There is also a slide made of snow. It’s really fun. Their toilets are unable to flush because of environmental protection, but they are cleaned every day. So rest assured, it’s really clean. If you have a restaurant, you can experience it. It’s good. Then there are some souvenirs. I will also go to Aurora Village with my friends in the future. Let me see Aurora again. The greatest view on earth! Just to let you know that "mild hypothermia" is when you feel sleepy and drowsy. So please understand your limit.

The staff were very nice and helpful when I booked my excursion online. Upon arrival they met me at the airport with a welcome package and itinerary before dropping me off at the hotel. Everything ran on time and was quite pleased by that! The Village itself was OK, I would have liked more 'history' behind the land but I looked it up myself afterwards. There were a couple of trails you can go in the village but it was a little underwhelming. A lot of people complained about not seeing the Aurora on the first night but you have to take that into consideration when booking these things - its not always guaranteed! Luckily I was able to see it on my second night and was able to take a couple of photos with my Samsung Camera. You definitely need a professional camera to be able to take ANY photos! The only complaint I have is not using English. On my last day on the drive to the airport they only spoke in a second language and I had no clue what was being said. I would recommend this company to organize your trip but not expect an over the top service.

Luiney Sepúlveda

I have a wonderful experience, the location is beautiful and their customer service is excellent. I really don't have any complaints there is a lot of people that comes to see the Aurora and they are very organized. Our guides were all truly remarkable

We just back from yellowknife, we stayed in yellowknife for 4 nights and 5 days, we joined Aurora village for two nights viewing aurora and two days activities (dog sledding and snowshoeing), they provided great service, they had Korean, Japanese, Chinese and English service, tour guides were nice, friendly and patience. We also rented snow jackets, pans and shoes, they all clear and comfortable, they also provided photo service in the night, their village was in the great location, we can easy to see the aurora, it was bright, the teepee was warm, also they put coffee and tea inside, no worry cold season to see aurora. nice experience to join their team, we recommend Aurora village to other people, and we may back on summary season to view the aurora again.

Quan Zhou

So far, the WORST travel experience I have ever had in my life with travel agencies. Though during the booking session, we called and kept either email record or other document indicating that we need to rent also winter boots. The books are not delivered to our hotel with other winter clothes rental. We have to call many times and obviously they forgot it. Then they told us it would be delivered in like one and half hours which it did not. Then we called again and they said may be still another hour. As Yellowknife is really small and it does not make sense to take this long. We decide to pick those boots up by ourselves. They would have told us earlier if they actually prefer us picking them up!! So we would not wasted 2 hours because of their lies!! I start to have very bad feeling about the coming arrangement. Also after we got picked up from the airport, on the shuttle bus, the guides can only speak Korean or Japanese and there was a moment I thought I was not in Canada. Though on the contract we chose the service to be in English or mandarin, obviously they ignore it. So you cannot understand japnanese or Korean. You are busted here. This is so like a scam! I am gonna see whether later on during the night aurora viewing your whether there are any English or mandarin. If not I will cancel the whole thing and call a refund!! This is NOT WHAT I SIGN UP FOR.

We went to Aurora Village over the Christmas holidays. It was an excellent experience. Being able to watch the Aurora Borealis from the comfort of heated teepees was a unique experience. We had tried the hunting tours but it comprised of being driven out to the boonies in a cold bus to take pictures on your own. The tour guides were very friendly and made sure we were taken care of. The viewing of the northern lights is at the mercy of nature, so we did not get spectacular pictures, but our didn't turn out too bad. The staff at Aurora Village were friendly and if it weren't so cold we would have done more activities. The giant slide was really fun but you need to be careful (ride at your own risk). We would definitely recommend Aurora Village to anyone especially after hearing they are planning many improvements to the resort!

K M (Kamiya)

I did the 3 night aurora viewing tour with winter rentals between Feb 28-Mar 1 (leap year). Contacted them directly, and they were able to answer all of my questions. You have to fill out a form with all your details (dates, flight number, hotel, clothing size, etc) to book, but it makes sense when you consider how amazingly organized and punctual they were. I went to the head office to pick up my clothes, and the man who answered the door knew my name. He let me try it on before I headed out. The first night, my group had Cristiano (Chris) as our tour guide. His enthusiasm and passion about the aurora really lifted up the group. He takes photography very seriously and helped everyone with their settings to ensure they could get their best shot. I ended up hanging around him quite a bit as a solo traveler. He participated in the ice show which is a little experiment to show how quickly everything freezes. They have this in different languages each night. The first night wasn't that great as it was cloudy. The lights were out, but you couldn't really see anything. Second night, we had Cecile, very sweet lady. The sky was amazingly clear, and we were told it should be a great night because of a sun storm. The lights came in levels. Started with a vague sweep of white. Then a bit later, more visible above the lake, but still, not much. Got much stronger a bit later. But just when we thought we got to see it all, the full show came out later. The whole sky lit up, it was bright and colourful, and it was moving so quickly. It really is a spectacular site that everyone should see. Pictures doesn't do it justice. Third night, cloudy with lots of snow, so no luck. If you decide to come, please get at least 3 nights. There are many 1 or 2 day travelers who don't see anything. The more nights, the better chances. They can't control the weather, they can only hope for the best. The tour guides truly want you to see and experience it. Also, if you don't have rentals, please dress as warm as you could. I was wearing gloves and mittens, and my hands still got cold after a few minutes. Also, if you can figure out a way to wear a face mask and avoid your glasses from fogging, please do. You will feel ice crystals forming in your nose after 15 seconds on the coldest days, but if you wear something over your nose, your glasses will fog and freeze. You will not be able to see anything even if you try to wipe it. Anywho, I would certainly recommend Aurora Village. It's great that they pick you up and take you out of the city. The staff are friendly and passionate, and the teepees are big and warm. In response to another person's reply, yes there are a lot of up-sales. I was a smidge disappointed as well, as I thought pictures were included. If you want a professional picture, want to stay past 1pm, want heated seats, or want souvenirs, you would have to pay more. I didn't buy anything else during my tour, but still had a great time. I came just to see the lights, and I'm happy I got to see it at least once during my tour.

“Magically beguiling and spellbinding Auroras in a surreal setting!” We had the blessings to experience spectacular and majestic auroras for three days straight! I booked online and Ayaka was super competent and ultra nice. Staff at Aurora were well-trained, helpful and cheerful. They were always on time and our English speaking guide, Carmen was a true gem. She found chairs for us to view the AB and was always around to assist us in a friendly manner. The bed at Explorer hotel was so comfy. A pre fix dinner at the Lodge is a must as the buffalo prime rib was truly sensational. Dog sled ride was fun and the sponge slide was well worth the climb up the stairs. A big round of applause for Aurora Village!!!

Angela Maaya

Once you see it... You can't unsee it... The marvelous blue-green harmony of Sun and Earth will take away all your troubles. It's a long trip to there but definitely worthy of seeing Aurora once in a life time.

(Translated) Only Japanese. In addition, it takes money to extend the aurora viewing. Staff are young Japanese who read the manual and do not speak English. There is no explanation about the northern lights on the going bus or the returning bus, and the extension fee and the return of clothes are repeated forever. There is no taste for trying to see natural phenomena. It may be good for elderly people who are worried about traveling, but it is very unsuitable for those who want to enjoy traveling. Great service, absolutely beautiful location. My boyfriend and I went dog sledding and we loved it. It was organized well, as in the logistics of huddling the group into a tepee- that seems to be their job, and not to give customers an experience of a lifetime. I had expected the guide to say something about what to expect in the aurora, what to look out for esp for first-timers. There was no feeling of excitement on our 30-min ride to the village, and not even a brief mention of the aurora experience at all. Maybe it was because the guide knew that we weren’t going to see the aurora that night? I was disappointed not because we didn’t see the aurora but because of the impersonal service of the guide.

We went to Aurora Village for our 20th wedding anniversary. This place is absolutely amazing! Charlene and Rachel in the dining room were so welcoming and took such good care of us! They were just great, fun people to talk with and were so helpful. Our dinner was delicious and the smoked bison was cooked to perfection! From our friendly tour guide Richard, to our helper Alan who kept our wood fire going all night, the staff here was wonderful and so attentive. We would recommend Aurora village to anyone visiting Yellowknife. It was worth the trip all the way from Atlanta, Georgia! Thanks Charlene and Rachel, you guys rock!!

Hyon Sook Ro

aurora village idea was good but it's dangerous place. I was there last week to take picture of aurora. Because everybody was there to take picture, you can not turn on the flash lights. There are lots of rocks and uneven grounds. I was going to use restroom. The sign was not lighted and I ended up at the mens bathroom. Looking for women's bathroom I tripped and fell, fell flat on my side. I was in pain for the rest of the trip. When you can not turn on the light it's not safe to walk around. They also put customers by race. Asian in one teepee, other race in diffrent teepee. Come on we are living in 21st century !!

Do not expect to see a Northern light every night. I found out that Best season for Aurora is January. But you can not complain about that. Instead of Aurora, you can have very good air, lots of stars, and very tasty foods. I love this place!!!

Robert Frizzell

Horrible. Dinner Reservations for 7:30 PM. 8:10 before drinks came. Food ordered at 8:20. 8:40 were told everyone had to be out by 10:00 and they might not be able to make our food in time. 9:15 food came out. Food was good but the Customer Service was horrible. We ended up going to the bar to get a pitcher of water twice because the waitress was barely there and run off her feet. We walked out of the restaurant after paying 500$ + (18% tip whether you felt it was deserved or not). We figured since we just paid that much money we would walk around and were instantly swarmed by tour guides who said it was a restricted area and we needed to pay to look up at the sky! 200$ to stand out in the clearing beside the restaurant and look up. We were herded to the parking lot by a very nice Japanese Tourist guide. While waiting for the vehicles to warm up a Security guard/Resort worker came to the parking lot to check on us and make sure we were ok and then hang out around the walking path back to the restaurant, maybe to make sure we didn't steal and glances at the stars... Horrible, horrible, over priced place to go. Complete scam. Drive down any road for 5 minutes and look at the lights for free. Many other better restaurants not so far out of town that serve equally good if not better food.

Amazing. I was absolutely speechless to witness such phenomenon. It was an unbelievable experience. The village tour that we followes served hot beverages to ensure we were kept warm and cozy when inside. They made sure all the factors that can be controlled such as lighting are toned down to increase chances of seeing aurora lights.

The teepee itself were nice but the place in general was boring and having to wait around for the Auroras was not very pleasant.

We went to the Aurora Village for a long due family trip and it was a great experience. For a place as unique and niche as Yellowknife, you really do need a knowledgeable guide to make the most of it! The staff at Aurora village were very friendly and approachable - I loved the homey feel of the place! We booked multiple Yellowknife experiences at a variety of companies and I would say that I enjoyed the ones at Aurora village a lot. A nice centralized and organized experience is key to making the most of the short amount of daylight up in the north. In contrast to going Aurora hunting, being able to rest in a heated teepee was as comfortable of an experience as you can get if you want to see this amazing natural phenomenon! Having so many people on the lookout for the lights means you won’t miss a thing. As well, huddling around the fire with snacks and tea always available makes for great family time. In terms of dog sledding, we tried both Beck’s kennels and Aurora village. I found that with Beck’s kennels, we never really were told what we were doing and were just sort of herded from place to place with minimal information and a lot of confusion. At Aurora village, there were more facilities and many things to do aside from the dog sledding experience. Although there was less dog interaction I found, the dog sledding ride was far superior. The scenery was diverse and not just an empty lake! We had half the riders in our sled than we did at Beck’s kennels which meant we didn’t have to get out when going up hills (due to the slide being too heavy). All in all, it is worth it to pay the extra $$ considering that going to Aurora village is an array of activities with a comfortable atmosphere!

(Translated) Terrible terrible experience, got feet effected fungus from the rental boots there. I asked the lady did they clean the boots and she said yes. They just don't care customers and only wanna take money. Don't choose this one because they sounds famous. On site you need to pay extra for everything. They save better outfit and boots only for Japanese customers and don't care others. Terrible attitude especially to Chinese, I have been to so many places and this is the most terrible agent I Have ever meet. Very bad experience, very bad attitude towards the Chinese, I asked a Taiwanese woman inside if the winter boots rented had been disinfected, and told me that there was disinfection, and the result was beriberi. The clothes are terribly dirty. I want to ask if they are clean. I said that if there is no result, I will see the newer ones for the Japanese guests. The Chinese don't go to this place. Their attitude is extremely bad. (Original) Terrible terrible experience, got feet effected fungus from the rental boots there. I asked the lady did they clean the boots and she said yes. It's fantastic. I have never seen it before. I wish to see it once in the north.

(Translated) Staff Hwei is very friendly. This is a stock question and I was worried a lot, but I listen and explain everything. There is also a pamphlet. (Original) 직원 Hwei 엄청 친절합니다. 이것저것 재고 질문하고 고민 많이 했는데 다 들어주고 설명해주고 합니다. 한글판 팜플렛도 있어요.

Everything is well organized. The problem is that if your flight gets canceled or rerouted you are not available to get a refund. Our advice is wait until you get there to rent all your equipment and tours. We got canceled flights twice. No refunds on excursions or hotel nor equipment. They have plenty of equipment and jackets they will not runout. Just get there first!

(Translated) If you are traveling freely, check out Street View first. This is the village office, and the observable Aurora Village is 23 kilometers up there. I tried to walk at first, but I checked later and was surprised so I booked a tour for the day. It’s your fault that you didn’t prepare in advance Thanks to the Korean guides, it was more fun to listen to the explanations and talk together at Tipi. Even after time passes, the fact that there are people somewhere who have seen this wonderful scene together makes me a memory. There is hot water when you go, so bring something to eat. Recommended for battle food or cup noodles. You must be very hungry (Original)
