REVIEWS OF Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park IN Thunder Bay

One of Northwestern Ontario's Crown jewels

Amazing views and the falls are spectacular but not sure why the water coming down the falls was brownish

Tina Vannatter

These falls are deep, resonant cascades that toss up a silver mist so fine and cool, you smile and breathe in deeply to enjoy the whole sensation. Thundering down to the lower portion of the Kaministiqua River, visitors see miriad layers of volcanic rock cut through by the power of rushing water. I have loved this place from the first memories I have of visiting here with my extended family as a child. Then we could get closer, even onto the very rocks the river cut through. The mist shrouds the entire park early mornings. Reminds the traveler of morning walks in the UK & Ireland, enveloped in a shimmering, cool blanket of silver.

Carolyne Rowland

Great provincial park. Wish we had the time to stay more than just a night. Will stay here again for longer if we are ever in the area again. The falls being close by are an added bonus.

Very nice staff. Waited for our late arrival 10:05 PM. Patient and gave good directions. The trails for your RV are tight and you should bring a long cord for power. Stunning scenery!

Stayed longer than expected due to the beautiful falls

Its a great park. Clean, nice facilities, great staff, well kept. The 2 lower campgrounds have a lot of sites that imho are too close to the highway. A basic non-electric site is close to 50$ per night. There are private showers and laundry …

Randy Reynolds

Heavily wooded park with magnificent waterfalls and nice hiking trails. Camping spots were generously sized and well kept. Shower house was clean and everything worked. We spent a peaceful night with other considerate campers in this lovely park.

Sue

The “Niagara of the North” always leaves you inspired. A must see when travelling by or staying in Thunder Bay.

Bryan Morrison

Beautiful park, clean with friendly staff. The falls are gorgeous. Some great walking trails, we got to try the old Portage route. We had our dog but left our 2 year old with my parents for the hike - I'm glad we did. While it took us about 50 minutes instead of the alloted 1.5 hours, it has a lot of steep hills with broken shale. Still, very cool, especially if you read the plaque above describing that you are walking around an ancient Island! Word to the wise - pay attention to the online details about distance to the plugin if you're using utilities - they aren't kidding, many are 30m

not bad but the water looks brown as mud.. im from sudbury and this looks like local mining swamp water...i like to see clear water

Loud until 12:30 am. Quiet evening was ruined. No wardens? Won't go back. Stay away if you want quiet.

One of the most beautiful parks we stayed at lots of walking trails, close to amenities and just a delight. Prices were reasonable. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. They assisted with find a site and bringing firewood. An absolute perfect campground and a MUST visit if you are traveling that way!!

Sylvie Deslandes

(Translated) Easily accessible and impressive. (Original) Facilement accessible et impressionnant.

Surprisingly decent campground although the bugs are overwhelming at times. The Falls are absolutely beautiful. Cell phone service is barely good enough to text or call and the park is a fair distance from any major things to do, although I suppose that's what you want if you're going to be out camping sometimes. Bathrooms were very clean, Rangers were courteous and the cost was not freakishly expensive.

Lots of places to view the stunning falls. Terrific campground

We live a few minutes away and have occasionally visited the falls. In winter, the parking fee really shouldn’t be charged at all as the majority of trails/boardwalks are not shoveled, and those that are are slick with ice. Dog poop is everywhere this time of year. Was barely worth going when you could pay an hourly rate. My wife went to bring our daughter to the playground recently now that the weather is nice, and show a friend from out of town the falls, only to find the hour long parking rate has been removed, meaning you need to pay over $5.00 to buy the two hour pass - all just to visit one of the only playgrounds in Kakabeka. Not worth it. Bring back the hour long parking pass!

Valerie Atkins

Nice quiet park.

Sinda Simpson

The park was clean and services still offered despite it being the shoulder season. Water in the showers not hot enough considering the much cooler Spetember temps. Falls are incredible and beautiful. Fantastic walkway surrounding the falls allows for a great view and photo opportunities.

I love it ???? here ????????????‍♀️♌️

GODS COUNTRY. The staff is very friendly and know their stuff. Very clean, trails are well maintained, the air is so fresh and clean. BEAUTIFUL! There is so much to say and see. If you go anywhere in Ontario go to Kakabeka Falls Ontario Canada. No you can go anywhere in Canada and there is so much beauty. Ontario is spectacular. Kakabeka Falls is something everyone should see. It's just as BEAUTIFUL as Niagara Falls Ontario ????????????. OH CANADA.

Great views love the beaches at Neys and Pancake Bay.

The park staff that checked us in was okay. The campers are very nice and friendly (they say “good morning,” “hello,” and wave “hi”! There is a current fire ban so no campfires but there are quite a few hiking trails (we didn’t get a chance to go hiking since we were only there for one night) and the falls to enjoy! The campsites are nice, spacious with some shade and privacy and the washrooms and showers are very clean! I will definitely come back again and will stay longer! I forgot to mention, the campers are very respectful and the campground was very quiet in the evening/night.

Jennifer Patterson

Beautiful, clean , but really noisy with the logging transport trucks next to your site.
