REVIEWS OF Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père - SHMP IN Rimouski

Andrea Grebenc

Accidentally came across this place. The family really enjoyed it, especially the Onondaga.

Antoine Frappier-Temcheff

Incredible visit! I am a huge fan of naval and military history and loved visiting and learning about the HMCS Onondaga. The guided visit gave us an idea of how the sailors lived and how the ship works. I would highly recommend this for people of all ages!

John Fowler

Lots of interesting things to see. Unfortunately not open when we visited.

Raphael Morin

Any adventurous person must visit the submarine. The Empress museum is very nice too.

Kevin Roy

Very nice place to visit with the family

steeve corbin

A really entertaining place, the only outside submarine of the Canada!

Viktor Eeckhout

Very interested and fun

Marina A

Amaizing place to visit !

N N

Too crowded! 30 minutes just to get a ticket, then shoulder to shoulder inside. They should warn visitors that the submarine visit is jam packed and you’ll be stuck hardly moving for 45 minutes. This was at 9am on a weekday. Bad experience.

Keyvin liu

This place is great!

Leo K. Yang

Good place to stay for a sunset.

Jean-Paul Bourque

Very awesome place to visit, very entertaining.

Kayla Jean

Pretty cool place to visit

Simon Durocher

This history place is magical, exhibits are nice and the big submarine is spectacular.

JF R

You rarely get the chance to see such a magnificent piece of engineering up close. This is a must if you are nearby.

Emilie C

Great experience! Loved both the submarine visit and the Empress of Ireland museum!

Devon Opden Dries

The submarine tour was very very interesting and well put-together. I wish we arrived earlier in the day to catch the Empress of Ireland museum.

Oksana Derkach

A beautiful place and unusual exhibits. Definitely worth a visit

alexandre Arpin

Really cool exhibition on the Empress of Ireland wreck. And a submarine too!

Krissy Omnom

Only did the submarine, but was a tonne of fun!

Ingo Meyer (ingoism)

Really interesting place and a rarity to get all close and personal with a more recent type of submarine (not WW2). The English audio guide was great, telling an engaging story while explaining the workings of the boat and live of the crew onboard. Recommend combining this with a visit of the lighthouse.

Sheila Southon

Interesting to learn about Canada's worst maritime disaster. In non Covid times we would've liked to go on the submarine too

Elidjay Ross

You really get to feel like you were there when you're whatching the movie

Tobold The Old

Excellent museums and displays. HMCS Onondaga is a real treat. Empress of Ireland center is first class.

Dallas Thompson

Fun. Climbed the lighthouse and toured the sub. Nice gift shop.

Zakaria Bousaoud

Amazing view from top of lighthouse..

Ross

This was an experience not to miss! We took an overnight tour of this submarine. The tour consists of a guided tour of every part of the ship, and how life is on board a sub, you learn all the different stations,, and how to operate them, then they run through a scenario and some fun games. You watch a movie then its time to sleep on the cramped sleeping quarters. In the morning you are severed a continental breakfast, given your submariner's pin and leave the sub. Do not miss this fantastic experience.

Guilherme D. Garcia

Great place to visit. The movie is particularly useful to better understand the significance of the Empress of Ireland.

Jonatan Lamarre

Ok so it's the second highest light house. Go the the highest. The guides are more knowledgeable.

Mathias Rousseau

A great stop to see pretty unusual things! A submarine (unfortunately it was closed and couldn't be visited when we were there), a fairly tall lighthouse and a museum building that is built in a rather unconventional way-- yet totally appropriate considering the topic: the tragedy of the Empress of Ireland (the building is shaped as a shipwreck). Definitely a stop that we would recommend.

Hernan Garcia

Fantastic experience, well done with audio guide in your language of choice. A well crafted experience to get to know life in a submarine. Narrated in a very accessible way for adults and children.

jos kayaerts

We visited the lighthouse - the steps are rather steep and narrow - and got a short but interesting overview of its history and how such a lighthouse was operated. And we visited the submarine and followed a audio tour explaining the working of the submarine and the daily life on board of a submarine. Interesting but a bit long.

Zebang Yang

Nice location by the river, interesting information with nice exhibits about the historical event of Empress of Ireland. Worth a stop if you have time

Paul Gipson

Hard to express how great a place this is. Great value at $22 for everything. Incredible history of the Empress of Ireland disaster, so well explained; great tour of the lighthouse; and then an audio tour inside the submarine. Just wonderful.

Pat Mac

Loved visiting here!

M C

When we went the sub was open . Was great. I will go back when the light house is repaired.

Kelly Boville

Nice view of a pre WWII submarine although refurbished

rudel stricker

The presentation of a Canadian submarine is interesting and rich in terms of information, but too much an entertainment. The Multi-Media-Show of the Empress-of-Ireland Desaster is also primarily an entertainment, whereas the accompanying exhibition is well suited to make the disaster understandable.

Guy Maurice Desrochers

Well worth the detour. The submarine tour is excellent and the museum of the sunken ship is really well done. Another must see in the region.

Sharon Lowe

Such a great way to spend a few hours. Really well done self guided tour in English or French. I highly recommend this attraction.

Chad Arsenault (Mooseman)

I didn’t even buy tickets or go into the museum or submarine. I still give this jem of a place 5 stars. Beautiful lighthouse and older nautical buildings along the shore as well as some very amazing sights of the river as well. I’ve been passing through Rimouski for over 30 years and this was my first visit, will be going again and maybe actually visit the museum.

Discovering Destinations

Passing through the little town of Rimouski towards Gaspé, located on Rue du Phare, right on the bank of the St Laurent River, we find this place called "Pointe-au-Pere" which we love. We did not have much time to explore all the exhibits that look very interesting which contains museums including one in a submarine and a lighthouse but we walked around on a beautiful sunny day where we contemplated a super nice place to spend the day between adults or in families with children, with space for a picnic or if you prefer a coffee and sunbathe. We recommend visiting and exploring more the place if you have the chance!

Louay Jabry

The submarine visit is totally worth the experience. Don't skip it if you find yourself in Rimouski.

Danielle Fielding

Lovely lighthouse. If you have the time don’t forget to check out the submarine!

David Robertson

Good museum and gift shop. Lighthouse and old submarine.

WAYNE Adams

Very Interesting and informative. Worth the price for all three exhibits. Very well presented. Everyone should visit.

Isabelle Poirier

Great museum, must see.

Barry

Unfortunately it is closed to the public due to COVID-19. But it was nice to get closer to a sub.

Jason Pardy

Just go. It's totally worth it.

Sergei “switcher67” Rekhels

Interesting explanations about a submarine.

Kerry Lynn

Paid for the sub tour and was told if we made it to the lighthouse before they closed (Were there with 25 MIN left till close) we would be able to tour the lighthouse. Upon entering they said they just let the last group up 5 min before we arrived and that we could not enter. Upon speaking to management to mention this is our one and only time in this area and moving on to Ontario all we got was a supervisor who said she couldn't speak any English. Our little boys were upset needless to say, this was the first and only lighthouse we would have been able to go in after seeing a dozen during our 2 week maritime vacation. One suggestion, if you are going to have senior management to have running this tourist attraction maybe consider hiring someone bilingual to bridge the gap and not to offend as most of the visitors if not all had out of province license plates (Ontario, Pei, Manitoba...)

Sylvie Proulx

Great place for everyone !!! 4 places in 1 We visited 1 and 2 and give these 2 thumbs up !!! 1 - Submarine visit "Excellent"; 2 - History of the sinking of the Empress of Ireland with movie presentstion and museum "Excellent" 3 -Visit a lighthouse 4 - For kids, a giant puppet show.

P. C.

Great spot for sunset watching.

David Mark

Nice stop before we head to Gaspe.

Vladimir L

The submarine museum with an audio guide is the best. Never thought the space is so tight in submarines. Climbing the lighthouse stairs was fun as well.

Ved O

A must stop on your Gaspésie trip. You can visit an old submarine, a famous lighthouse and a musuem with stories of how important that part of bas St Laurent has been important in the country's maritime history and shipwrecks!

Flavio Jorge

Beautiful, very nice surprise. Lighthouse site is beautiful and I didn't realize there was a real submarine anchored there.

Roger Lebouthillier

A must see exhibit, you get to go inside a submarine. A very rare chance to feel what saillors went through. doesn't get better than this!
