This is one of my favorite gems outside of Prince George. It's my home away from home. A beautifully preserved temperate rainforest in the interior of BC, you'd almost swear you were on the coast. ????????????
Magical, mystical old growrh cedar rainforest in British Columbia's interior...a must see experience...the air is pristine, you can breath completely unhindered ????☀️????
A super easy and short hike. There are 2 trails. One go to a biggest and oldest tree in the forest. The other one goes to a waterfall. I believe this hike is also wheelchair accessible. There is always lots of room to park and it is not busy. It is really nice to see a rain forest. The trees are huge and the vegetation looks much different compared to other forests. It is beautiful both in winter and summer
You get familiar with the old shape of forestry. I expected more informative signs about trees, vegetations animals and habitat. This spot has a huge potential for students. Very poor bathrooms. Yery well done walking paths and stairs with anti sliding protections. By the way, DO NOT forget spray for mosquitoes, they're gonna eat you right away :)
Beautiful and accessible trails. I would definitely recommend stopping here if you are in the area!
Awesome!! Aside from the mosquitoes got lots of great pics
Just an amazing attraction. DONT GO OFF THE PATH. Keep it in its natural state people. Some of these trees have been around for well over 1000years and are facing their toughest environmental hazard, people. Beautiful scenic and a must see for all Canadians.
Nature always gets 5 stars from me... But for real! Great recreation site with short or long hikes and wheelchair-accessible hikes. This is a great way to break up a drive, or a great day-trip destination with some very cool discoveries and vistas along the path.
We loved this hike. We took our extended family to come and do this hike from Prince George. In total there was 9 of us from six weeks to 40 years old. We did all of the loops and it took roughly 2 hours. Overall I loved this hike and the unique ecosystem that is is in.
Wow, just wow! So many spectacular old growth cedar trees in one place. Simply beautiful.
Nice trail with Boardwalk all the way. But quite a bit of elevation. Some signage. Do not know how long it is.
A real hidden gem about half way between Prince George and McBride! Excellent stop even for a lunch break, but the volunteers have built a wonderful trail system through the middle of an inland Red Cedar Rainforest.
Absolutely Beautiful. Easy to get to from parking and safe convenient pathways.
Awesome place with some amazing old trees that will stun you with their size! Largest tree there is over 5 meters around. In the winter the trail is pretty beat down and there are some beautiful views. In the summer is is a beautiful nature walk with a small pituresque waterfall.
This is a wonderful old growth forest in British Columbia and is wonderfully accessible without having to drive all the way to the coast line. The trails are easy to navigate and well maintained, with maps posted at intersections that clearly mark out the route. There is a beautiful pavilion that allows for picnicking, and a few outhouses that provide well stocked and maintained facilities for day activities. It is isolated so bring your own food.
Hauntingly beautiful! The trees are amazing.
We absolutely enjoyed our hike through the forest in August. If I remember correct, it took about an hour. It was a warm summer day so it felt like a walk through a jungle. The cedar scent is divine! We were slightly concerned about bears but we met a lot of other people on the trails so never felt too alone.
I snowshoed the trail. The snow was really deep and the trees were magnificent with great signage. Not as large as I'd been expecting all of my life, and hard to photograph. In the winter the lookout and waterfall are just snowy hills. I hope to go in the summer some time!
It was special to see the oldest cedar tree in the BC Interior it is between 1000 and 2000 years old
A perfect 1 hour pit stop. Ancient trees and a little exercise on a super accessible trail.
Amazing park, so beautiful in winter!
The amount of work they've pour into this place in the last few years is astounding. It's truly an amazing site, and now it's more accessible then ever.
Super happy I stopped here. The path is marked, help keep the old growth healthy by sticking to the path. Soo many cool facts on the boards along the way. On my way back I will do the circuit again and add the old tree loop. Loved every moment of the trail.
This is a wonderful hike and is totally available to all. The paths are wheelchair and stroller accessible, as well as there are lots of places you can adventure and see our beautiful backyard! It's a bit of a drive, but even in winter it's amazing.
Not finished but well worth a stop.
Amazing place to hike or visit, accesible trails.
Wow what a find. A rainforest in northern BC I was on my way to Prince George BC for a job fair and this place spring up an hour or two away from my final destination I was a couple of hours early so I thought I'd check it out. And what a great experience it was. I had no idea of the forest for so Lush beautiful in the trees so large in this area. I'd suggest anybody taking a half an hour and walking through there
An incredible hike with meticulously maintained boardwalk trails. The gigantic trees were awe-inspiring. A definite must see in the area and one of my favourite hikes!
This was probably one of our favorite stops on our Northern BC circle trip... We truthfully didn't expect much as from the parking lot it didn't look like much but within 2 minutes we were hooked... 5 hrs later we made it back to our truck ... AMAZING STOP...
Beautiful place... old trees.
This is a must see. You won't regret that you went. Its a whole different world compared to everything outside of this place. Its one of the most amazing things I've experienced.
Amazing trails and breathtaking views. The parks are very family friendly and Tree beard falls are beautiful to walk up too. Was able to easily spend 3-4 hrs walking around. Highly recommend anyone to visit this piece of rainforest inside BC's interior.
Great place to go as a family or a date! Lots of streams and a waterfall. Lots of great places to take great pictures!
A great attestation to the hiking clubs in Prince George, I'm not at all aware of the extent of the work or dedication given by those individuals. I have enjoyed this sight more then ounce and last summer the nice huge parking lot wheelchair ramps and trail the facilities, wow nice work fellows.
we had really good experience the forest is so beautiful humongous trees beautiful trails easy to get through everywhere very beautiful nature definitely worth it to stop when you going through
Beautiful park and well maintained, loved the experience.
Awe inspiring old growth forest of Western Red Cedar. This is an inland rain forest, rarer than the coastal old growth rain forests. The trees don't grow as tall but they are just as old. Several were over 1000 years old! The history they have seen! The park has been made wheel chair accessable for the first part of the walk in. The rest of the hike up to the long waterfall is on boardwalk as well - created by dedicated volunteers this boardwalk takes up, up the side of the mountain, walking around ancient trees and along side small streams and waterfalls, cascading down to the rivers that will rush the water along to the Pacific! It took me about an hour to walk the waterfall loop. It was a wonderful experience!
Incredible ancient cedars. It's preserved really well.
It is an amazing feeling standing next to 1,000 year old trees. Mother Tree gives off such a life force, that she moved me to tears. This place is a must see, a real treasure in the North.
Breathtaking!
A little piece of the coast, 800 km from the ocean! Big trees, like you'd expect near Vancouver. Well-maintained boardwalk, and a moderate climb for a 30-45 minute loop. It's well worth the extra few minutes to hike up to the waterfall.
Love this place. Or I did. Until they did all the work to it. I understand why they did. But now it's basically a tourist stop. Always busy, the parking lot is an eyesore and people camp there. I've seen people fully changing clothes in the parking lot. People drive like jerks. Lineups for the bathroom. Disappointing.
Really beautiful good short hike a wooden path is built along the whole trail I'd definitely recommend it to most people. If you are looking for an easy hike to take the kids or are just getting ready for the summer give it a go two thumbs up.
Beautiful boardwalk through the ancient trees! Amazingly breathtaking! Such a treasure!
Love this place so epic. There's tables there toilets tons of parking nice little walk to stomach your legs after a long road trip between valmont and pg.
I absolutely love this place. <3 It is beautiful with very well kept trails and they are actively trying to make it better and help upkeep the ecosystem at the same time.
Beautiful spot! The Lheidli T’enneh name Chun T’oh Whutujut (pronounced chun-toe-hwu-duh-jut) means “Old Forest” - from linguist Bill Poser via Tourism Prince George.
Nice short walk mostly on boardwalk. A little uphill/downhill. Amazing huge cedars in a really nice setting. About 75 minute drive from Prince George
This ancient forest stands out from the rest of the Northern Interior landscape. The local volunteer groups have made significant improvements to the trail routes and landmarks. When you inside, you feel like you've been transported to one of the coastal forests on Vancouver Island.
Just outside (PG) going south you come across this road side turn in, Theirs signs but you can drive right bye this Ancient Forrest. This place is special! I came here when the snow started to fall and it was cold outside. I journeyed in this Forest tobe surrounded by these Giant Trees everywhere. Once your in I had to change to my shirt because is was so warm there. Its almost like its own climate, i found that so cool. You feel so Small in the forest.
Very old trees, 130 km east of Prince George, under study. Awesome, feeling of loneliness, nice place of meditation, having communication with trees that give us energy of living. Perfect association of nature, having a feeling of isolation from busy status of life, getting a sense of relief & rejuvenation.
We've had a great time there. It was awesome to take a break from a long drive in a nature and enviroment like this. Loved this place and will definitely come back if I get a chance.
Nice trail, but mosquitos will eat you! :)
Gorgeous. The place smells like paradise and the trees are literally awe inspiring. The group that have done the conservation and trail building work are to be hugely commended for their massive effort and brilliant results.
A beautiful rain forest nestled in the mountains. This is by far the biggest attraction near Prince George, and for a good reason. The trees are thousands of years old, and the whole places is teeming with wildlife and natural wonders. A must see!
A beautiful walk. The mosquitoes were plenty, so bring lots of repellent. The walk starts with a uphill climb to the loop. Stay on the pathway to protect the forest rehabilitation.
Good sized parking lot and whole park has a wooden pathway. Good place to spend an afternoon
Brings you through the forest in an educational Journey, teaching you about the forest, the history, and about the appreciation of the world in which we live in. Remember to clean up any garbage you see along the trail (even when it's not your own).
Absolutely Gorgeous!!!!! Maintained so well!! And so many waterfalls!
My favorite place to visit when I come to Prince George. The boardwalk trails are completely awesome. Thank you for keeping this gem safe
I soooo enjoy the sights here!!
My family took me for a Father's Day hike in the Ancient Forest. It was very peaceful. The trails have been upgraded with treated wood planks and roofing shingles. It made the walk even better. Thanks family.
Awesome place to chill out. Pet friendly, Mostly board walks. Ring Mesh, giant and epic trees which represent Lheidli T'enneh's tradition. Lots of things to do like fishing, hiking, hunting, etc. No campground. Don't forget your bug spray.
Great stop for a relatively easy ~1-hour leisurely hike along a mostly boardwalk trail. Amazing trees (including Tree Beard!). It was quite a feeling being able to walk the trail and listen to the trees creaking as they swayed in the breeze. I had the luxury of not having any other folks around me as I walked through the forest, so no extraneous noises except my own breathing (and my puppy's nails).
A unique forest with a unique atmosphere. You walk on wooden boardwalks to protect the environment. These are steep in parts with steps. Well worth a visit
Spectacular views and 1000 years old trees.wonderful trail and universal walk
We did a quick stop but it was amazing. Awesome place to stop if you travelling through, we have a 28ft trailer and find it hard to find places like this to park easily but the parking lot was huge and had RV parking spaces.
Accessible to the bottom of the waterfall only, but that short section of the overall park so full of nature, so very inspiring. I highly recommend a visit, all abilities and ages welcome! Thanks Caledonia Ramblers, for your work on this jewel of Northern BC!
Super fun hike! Giant Cedar trees! Board walks were very slippery this time of year.
It's a beautiful park! The giant cedar trees are really pretty! It's a nice hike. I'd give it 5 stars but the pavilion didn't have picnic tables in it to eat at. There is some outside but it started raining but I'd still recommend checking the place out...
Went on a 6000 mile motorcycle trip, and this was one of the best hikes we did across all of North America.
My favourite place in the entire world. You'd only be doing yourself a disservice by not checking this beautiful place for yourself. 2000 year old cedar trees. Enough said :)
Awesome little hike. About 90 minutes to do the loop
Incredible place! MAGIC FOREST! Love it!
Excellent walk through an amazing rain forest, that is accessible to everyone. Older kids can do it in 15 minutes, while our youngest (4 years old) did all possible routes in under an hour, while stopping and looking at slugs, frogs, and enormous trees.
Beautiful boardwalk through an ancient cedar forest. Discovered and saved in 2005-2006. Short walk, easy and a good break when traveling on the #16 highway.
Beautiful forest path close to Prince George with trees more than 1000 years old.
Pretty cool spot about an hour east of Prince George. Good scenic views and a short walk up gives you a view of a decent waterfall. It’s a quick loop so if you were looking for a good workout hike this wouldn’t be it.
Easy walk to stretch legs. Was raining when we did it but the trees provided some nice shelter. The cedar smell is the best!
Mid May, still a bit of snow in a few places; but our toddler managed it just fin!!
Amazing unique place. Well worth the visit
Great hike. Massive trees and great overall walk in and out.
It was a great hike in a beautiful forest they have take great pains to preserve the tranquility of the trees so future generations can enjoy.
Was beautiful. Almost the whole hike is on a nice platform. Part of it is wheelchair accessible. Will be going back again.
So serene to walk along the path and being surrounded by the lush greens. Just apply bug spray, because you'll get eaten up by the mosquitoes
So beautiful and full of natural wonder. The boardwalks make the short hike perfect for a quick stop to take in the glory of what once was and still should be.
Amazing! Go here!!! Beautiful trees and very easy paths/walkways throughout the whole trail. (There is a section that is wheelchair accessible). Pictures can not do justice to the size/magnitude of the trees. It rained the whole time we were in the forest, but because of the cover provided by the huge trees we hardly got wet.
I was there in 2018 with my family members a and had a wonderful Tim themed us feel like family just whonted to wish them a very marry christmas it was a great time we stayed 2 or 3 days I recommend your go there and enjoy Hatcher of the ancient forest you will love it there
New board walk trails make it easy to hike around and see everytging at the same time.
Beautiful and amazing walk through the trees. We'll worth stopping and walking through.
Such an incredible place! For us it was a great spot to stop and stretch our legs after a long drive! There were bathrooms on site and boardwalks through the forest. Well worth a stop to see these incredible trees!
It's definitely beautiful but its hard to enjoy the beauty of anything when you are swarmed by mosquitoes! ???? Also, my bf and I went with my dad and his gf (65+ in age) and it was not as accessible of a walk for them as we had expected. As such, they ended up turning back while we hiked to the waterfall. I added several pictures to show the path up (on the right side) to the waterfall. Only one of the pics is of the path on the left, which is what we took on the way back. Not sure how people see this as an accessible path?!
If you love nature in all its glory you will love this place! A must see if you are going by.
This is such a beautiful Forest! I think it has it's own micro climate weather system. The lichen, which only grow in very clean air were abundant. The board Walk was easy to negotiate. The trees are magnificent! We made a special trip here to see the trees, from Washington State and we're glad we did Go if you can!
Gorgeous forest. Short walk but enjoyed the scenery a lot
Absolutely incredible. Can't believe the handy work and trail building of volunteers in here. Lucky it became a protected area for us to enjoy with such a dedicated team to preserve it. So worth the trip out of the way.
Absolutely amazing. The views are incredible. The board walk makes the hike enjoyable. Only complaint is that there are zero garbage cans.
One of the most amazing places on Earth. Incredible what has been created there by all the volunteers to make it very accessible for people.
Amazing spot to take your kids for a walk on the boardwalk!trees are so gorgeous and huge! And the little waterfalls are stunning!highly recommend stopping here!
Good paths. Free access. Lots of mosquitoes.
Worth a stop. Great way to stretch the legs and have a short rest why road tripping. Some great local and natural history to be seen here.
The Ancient forest is such a special place the trees are as much as 1000 yrs old and every tree has a tale to tell amazing and to think these trees were going to be cut down.
Great place for a casual hike.
Well worth a stop. Besides the pretty well maintained wood decked trails I recommend the side trail to the waterfall, although that side trail might be a little rough for some visitors.
Breathe taking forest. A bit over an hour from Prince George and you enter this paradise that is an easy hike for families, with lots to see and for all ages to enjoy.
A must visit forest
So cool worth the drive. It took me and my 74 year old uncle did the loop in 1 hour. Ease boardwalk and path has grip tape the whole way
Great trail. Well maintained. The wheelchair accessible section leads to a beautiful viewpoint. A nice little hike if you're in the area.
absolutely stunning! the drive from prince george bc is beautiful. once you arive at the forest there is plenty of parking. the trails are well marked and the path was well built and very easy to navigate! but the forest experience is well worth the drive and I will definitely be coming back!
Awesome walk along the boardwalk, easy climb in elevation. Wear long pants and use bug spray in the spring/summer.
