REVIEWS OF Capilano River Hatchery IN North Vancouver

q.

Quiet place - or perhaps I visited during the off season. But hey, still caught a rainbow - that counts too aye ???? It's a nice walk from the nearby dam, so make sure they're both on your itinerary!

Michael Burton

A family favorite, watch the fish jumping up the ladder in the fall and great walking trails. A good hiking loop for the family is to head from the hatchery to the Cleveland Dam look out across the river and then up to the big firs, to the pipeline bridge and back to the hatchery.

Craig F

Kids love seeing the fish here. Good place for them to learn a few things. Mostly I like the walks around including the short walk up to the top of the Capilano spillway and dam

Stephanie Dodson Dougherty

Nice exhibition of hatchery and salmon basics. Some fish visible in underground viewing area with glass siding despite the season. No staff to answer questions but the placards and displays are very informative. Gift shop area now defunct and some upkeep needed in the back section. Still worth the stop if you are in the area.

Vasu Nagalingam

To be honest, it felt very underwhelming! During our visit, the water levels were low and only a few salmon. But the facility itself was very underwhelming and could have been more educational and eco friendly. Feels like a lost opportunity considering the number of visitors.

John Matthews

Didn't think this would be so interesting, boy was I wrong! Very cool place especially for kids. Very well laid out and educational. Nestled in the woods among the tall trees and river gorge, the natural setting makes the experience all the more fun.

Martin Ruest

Amazing learning experience mixed with beauty and power of nature. I particularly enjoyed the walk all the way to the dam, the view of the reservoir is great and the view down from the dam is crazy. Great hikes and the trails start from park Royal

Kwon Moonjung (Moon)

Beautiful place and good for education. Highly recommend for children family day trip.

Mehrdad Arastoo

It is nice and picturesque place for who loves nature. Whatching fish in a pathway and behind the glasses. You will love capilano river just beside hatchery.

Todd Lyon

Came here after realizing how expensive the Capilano suspension bridge was. It was a really nice view on the river, some information about the salmon, and cool bridges off the parking area.

Santiago Garfias T

Beautiful place!! A must for all who enjoy nature and good trails

Sze Fung Chan

Fun place to visit during salmon return season.

Keegan Casidy

For those who don't know entrance is free. Great place to learn about salmon. Regardless of when you visit there is a good chance there will be fish in the ladders and the tanks. The Capilano has about 9 months of Coho, anytime March through December there will be lots of fish to see. Best times are in October/Novemeber.

Tina Lee

Very good place ,Strong salmon, can see salmon return in fall

Angie H (Roaming and Wandering)

As a local, this is one of my top ten places to take visitors. It's free to get in, and you can even take the free Capilano suspension bridge shuttle from downtown. It won't drop you off right at the hatchery, but you can walk a few blocks north to the park and access the hatchery from there. During spawning season you can see fish do their thing, congregating in the pools and jumping up the river into the hatchery. There's an information center explaining the journey of the salmon as you watch them through the aquarium. Pretty neat!

Trọng Nhân

Interesting to learn about the salmon and see some beauty scenery.

Ana G

Great place for a winter hike or a summer chill. Don't rely on google for park map. Use pdf map provided by metro Vancouver. There is a free parking at the hatchery and Cleveland Dam. You can access whole park from both sides.

Frank Feng

Been here before. Very educational. Too bad it is not open during the pandemic. Love the hike!!

Jirgal Amninov

Very nice place to escape to the mother nature. During salmon run will be lots of fun for kids to watch it return to the spawning grounds. Please do not forget to enjoy short koho-loop trail close by. It will be satisfying and calming

關紫心

It was touched my heart when I saw salmons jumping upwards.

Pope Kim

You can see salmon jumping up through glass walls. Especially during early July you will see a lot of salmons coming back.

Anthony Leung

A must go if you're on your way to Grouse Mountain or Capilano Suspension Bridge. Great place for kids to see the salmon run! Easy hiking trails to the waterfall and lookouts throughout the Regional Park. Dress warmly and bring food. Public facilities available on site.

Morteza Najafvand

It's a wonderful hatchery inside Capilano River park and it is located on the Capilano River. There is a parking close to it and also you can reach to the hatchery through trails starting from the Cleveland Dam

Sakura Hana

Excellent exhibits and viewpoint of Salmon making their way upstream. Spent a good 45mins with the kid.

Edward Desaulniers

A must visit location if you are visiting the North Shore. Beautiful place to see Salmon spawn or go for a walk in the woods. Free car parking.

Elly Liu

A nice easy down walk to the place, see lots of Salmon swimming hard to the upper side, a fresh memory to us.

Shahab Besharatlou

Great walking trails and great view of the river. You go inside the visitor center and see how salmon move up the river to hatch their eggs.

Nicholas Manara

Very interesting facility with an informative series of displays on the river and the salmon hatchery. You can see the young salmon as they work their way upstream. Free admission. They are also trails for hiking and you can walk from here to Cleveland Dam.

Sophie N

The pools with the baby salmons swimming are very impressive ! It's a nice stop during the Capilano Canyon trail :)

Rabiya N. Rana

Loved the fact that I could move around with my 13 month old in her stroller; as she is quite heavy to hold or carry in a front or back carrier. Enjoyed the drive to this location and then the hatchery itself. Parking is limited, as the facility is small itself but is free. It is not very grand, and can be easily added to your itinerary if you are planning another activity that is not so time-consuming. I went on a Thursday and counted about 15 people in the 2 hours that I spent there. 2 hours are more than enough if you are not picnicking. The weather was sunny, so it was beautiful, as you can look at the stream of the river flowing next/below the hatchery; enjoy the sound of water and feel the peace the long trees offer- just beside a large mountain that closely overlooks the river and the hatchery. The sun, shines through the trees on you and some patches offer full sunshine. It is a rather small facility, but if you want to amuse your children by showing them some fish and do not want to afford a trip to the aquarium, then it is really nice. Apart from the big areas where the fish are kept, they have small 4 or 5 mini aquariums set up in the wall, where they have named the fish that is in there. Some other, useful knowledge about the life cycle of salmon is also on display. A very good way of making children learn alongside enjoying a good family time. Older people on wheelchair can also enjoy. There is a small hut with a few benches that offers a bin for hot coal waste, so I am assuming that one can take a portable bbq kit and enjoy a good afternoon there if one wants to. Toilet facility is for both men, women and differently-abled but, no nappy changing station; I used the wide space in between two sinks. Nice of other visitors to bear with me. I had a great time here and would definitely be coming back again.

Felipe Pinho

Great place to hike and have fun

Jeanette Mendoza

I loved walking through its forest. It was free to enter and you get to connect with Mother Nature. It was not crowded when I visited so I was at peace while walking. And so many trees!!! ????

Canadian Reviewer

This is a great place to visit with the family. Everyone can learn about the life cycle of Salmon. You’d find people fishing as well. Remember to check out the aquarium where you can see the salmon jumping.

Ella Bella

Free (unless you want to see the fry tanks in the hatchery), good parking, and beautiful views of the river. Lots of areas and trails to walk around.

Christine Tan

Hard place to fish as one is very high up, on a boulder/outcrop or have to scramble down rocks to the water which is tricky. I was successful because of two friendly fly fishermen had an extendable net and also great tips!

Lorena Christensen

Some of the best off leash trails in the lower mainland and particularly beautiful in the fall when the salmon are spawning. It's getting busier every summer though.

Keener Lehoux

Brought the family here today to watch the Salmon jump up the Ladders. Such strong brave fish. Found a Geocache under a Mushroom. Love the Trails across the Canyon. .

Mek Obchey

I went in winter a few days after fresh snowfall and the upper section was closed due to slippery floor. Otherwise, this is a nice little stop before the Cleveland Dam.

Wumbow Jumbow

Beautiful place and on top of that it's free.

J

This is a free attraction. My parents enjoyed this place more than any other touristy thing in vancouver. There were not very many salmons when we were there. I can imagine how awesome this place could be when they release the fishes. Easy to get to. Educational and a good tour for about 45 minutes.

Matt Gao

Great way to pass experience North Vancouver. Be sure to check their website to see what type of fish are available for viewing during which months. The experience is free!

Wayne Armistead

The hatchery is well worth a visit, but the real attraction is the amazing Capilano River Regional Park that surrounds the building. Reserve extra time to explore the park and enjoy all that it has to offer. Free parking and family friendly!

Matt Schipper

Attended a very informative school tour and learned a great deal about salmon and their local history from the very knowledgeable and experienced staff. The free to public exhibits are well worth the trip, and the location is beautiful. Close proximity to some great local hikes.

Tracy Edwards

Stunning forest hiking trails. Fish hatchery is very interesting. A great place to see Eagles.

Neha Prasad

A local gem. I love coming here with my family. Not only is the park great for hiking, but the river is also stunning. The hatchery is a great place to learn about fishing here on the coast, and at the right times of the year, you can see these fish in the hatchery.

Anuj Mahajan

Beautiful place. They also showcase salmons in various stages of their lives. You can easily spot bald eagles as well.

Deborah Cheung

A great way to learn more about salmon. You even get to see them swim around in the tanks

Sheila Xie

We like this place. Free entrance to watch salmons. You can walk around to see the scenic capilano river.

v l

Sept/Oct - interesting to watch the salmon return. Viewing areas set up so you can see up close. Free! Parking available.

Chou Yang

FREE!!! Awesome views and you get to see huge salmon's swimming and jumping over ledges.

Iman Ahmed

Great place, free admission but I didn't see any security or employee, its scary to go alone without any company

Nathan Killam

Great spot to bring the kids and learn about the life cycle of salmon and their spawning habits. Lots to see and nice trails for walking nearby.

Clinton Wong

One of my favorite places for a walk in the forest. Usually plenty of parking, good variety of different trails to explore, and breathtaking views of the river and dam. Very kid friendly as well, and there's a BBQ and picnic area.

Josh

It's amazing to see the Salmon stacking up to spawn in the fall, and it's cool to have an underwater view. Although it's definitely interesting to see the salmon through the glass, I wouldn't recommend it to tourists.

Corey Reynolds

Great educational place, free admission and parking. There are no staff on hand; everything is self guided. Awesome scenery.

TIEDefender2nd

It's really a great place to bring your kids to enjoy the green forest, flowing river, and t all about the life cycle of the salmons, all at no charge! (at least thats how it was last time I've visited here, all free)

Tony Wong

View operating hatchery all year and go for a brisk walk in the forest across a short bridge. My favorite local walk.

Ario Momo

Sooo cool! Thousands of salmon jumping around in the hatchery and up the ladder. If you follow the river to where the fishermen are you can see them all floating and jumping in the river, too.

Eoin O'Raghallaigh

The Capalano Hatchery is one of those hidden gems. It is rarely busy, and is free unless you drive a tour bus. As you go through the hatchery you learn about the types of salmon that are native to the area from several very good displays. Than you are taken underground to the glass sided fish ladder where you can see the fish fighting their way up streem, then back above ground you see the tanks where the smolts arr raised. Finally you look over the weir that blocks the fish's path, and sometimes you will see some egals fishing.

Marzie K

Amazing, beautiful, easy to walk around for everyone. Fantastic place to spend time with family and friends.

Cecilia Teixeira

I love this place and every time I take visitors there they are thrilled to learn about the salmon's life cycle. It's a must see attraction with free entrance and free parking. It can be easily combined on the same day you visit Capilano Suspension Bridge and/or Grouse Mountain.

Clem Cheng

Very educational. The admission is free. There is a scaled model of the facility located at the entrance. A man-made fish ladder was created to let salmond jumping up the steps. The display area shows fishing rods and baits for salmond fishing. A second display area shows how salmond eggs are fertilized, the different stages of the fry, survival rate and how to create identity of the fish before they are released to the sea. There are plenty of hiking trails around this area.

Hailee

I thought it was a fairly interesting place, probably much more excited during the proper season. But very beautiful!

Jakub Bilan

Great spot in Vancouver to go fishing, it is also quite busy spot.

Vegas VickyV

Cool place to learn about salmon.... great trail and vistas. Just absolutely beautiful place.

Su Lin Chen

This is a must-see spectacular place for Vancouver visitors. There is a very informative hatchery site: a model illustrating life cycles of salmons, aquarium boxes displaying various species of salmon, fish ladder windows for watching salmon jumps throughout the year, and aquariums growing salmon fry. In addition, the Capilano River nearby is the most gorgeous section. Taking a walk of 2 km around, you are going to meander in forest, take photos on a wooden bridge over the river, and be stunned by precipitous cliffs. 高度建議家庭旅遊必訪景點。有鮭魚洄游史模型、可現場觀看鮭魚躍梯、鮭魚苗養殖場。旁邊的卡皮蘭諾河更是整條溪流最壯觀的河段。

Sheryl Sato

A great place to visit! Make sure to check when you're most likely to see the salmon jumping - the salmon ladder is amazing to watch.

Giovanna Chavez

Bring all your visitors! This place is greatly educational. Learn about the salmon cycle and go hike picnic after. Beautiful sights and surroundings.

Kevin Chang

Free, w/ neat exhibits on the lifecycle and importance of salmon. There's a fish ladder where you can see salmon swimming back to their spawning grounds. The fishery is on the river which is beautiful and the trails surrounding it are worth exploring for the views, greenery and quiet. Accessible via transit, bus stop at Capilano River Park's Cleveland dam entrance and a short walk down the trail.

Jason Creighton

I went there with my environmental protection technology class and I had no idea that this little gem existed. Parking was free and it was easy to spend a couple of hours wandering through the trails that surround it. The real treat was seeing the fish through glass swimming up the fish ladder. Great place for kids and adults. Lots of hiking and it's not to to much of a challenge. I can't wait to go back!

Yuval K

Not much to see. They could do better job in showing fish. there's good info hut its small. The best part was coming down from the dam

Murtaza Ali

Understand nature and how this one species contributes to the regions diverse life. It’s all connected! Protect our environment and responsibly co exist to create a livable habitat !

kendra hiebert

Very neat place. We went here to kill 45 min while we waited for 5pm ( capalano suspension bridge goes 30% off after 5pm)

Bijan Markazi

Lots of information and a great place to watch the salmon ladder.

Carina Kwok

Good information about the fish native to this area. Interesting to walk through spawning tanks. It needs a face lift though, as signs are faded and worn.

Jordan Shapiro

This is a spectacular find, just up the road from the Suspension Bridge. Opens early (8am) and is free. Has a nice set of displays, great views set up of the fishway (the ladder the salmon climb) and a number of paths along the river. We were there on one of the busiest salmon run days of the year, when the dam upstream was also just opened up. Incredible!

Roland Haynes

Great view of raging water coming off the dam above the hatchery.

rook 22

One of the best experiences in North Vancouver. Beautiful place to visit and go for a walk. Good vibes.

Charioles Ex

Nice place to visit if you happen to be visiting the cleveland damn. Free entry and open space. Some area/part of the museum might be closed during icy condition though.

debbie chou

Great place where you can take your family both young and old to spend the weekend. Parking is easy but do check the official web sites for recommendations on when to visit. Although it’s open throughout the year, chances are you won’t see anything if you drop by in the wrong season.

Jim Gettman

Really liked it. The hatchery, hiking and parking are all free, the bathrooms were well cared for, and the static displays and aquarium windows were nice. We did not get to see the actual hatchery tanks, except one that was empty. There were no docents at noon on that Monday, but several local teachers were leading summer-school students on field trips. This is not as spectacular as some places with admission fees, but, Capilano River Hatchery, along with Queen Elizabeth Park, are the best free experiences we found around Vancouver.

Tyler Shepherd

Super cool! For a free visit, it can't be beat. Super accessible, super informative, well laid out, views of the river both ways are awesome, and lots of surrounding trails, bridges, viewpoints. We'll come often through the salmon season as it's a walk and we'll be fishing the river nearby. Great for the kids to learn about an important local resource.

Guillaume Allard

Theres something fishy about this place.... I like stopping here with the kids so they learn about salmon and the hatchery process. Also several nice trails in the area on both side of the river.

John Botica

WHY ARE YOU CLOSED. It is an outdoor facility. COVID restrictions are nonsensical. Open your doors to the public.

Martin Iskandar

It's a good experience to watch and learn salmon's life cycle.

A C

My wife and I casually strolled by this location while hiking around the dam and we're happy with having made a stop here. Luckily we caught the area in between two tour buses but it is possible you will have crowds of tourists coming through. The location has lots of posted information regarding the function of their Hatchery, the benefits to the local and National Community, as well as ways that you can help with conservation efforts in your daily lives. I felt that this was an excellent learning opportunity that also gives you great insight into proper Catch and Release Technique, environmental conscientiousness practices to employ at home, and seems like a great place to bring kids to explore too.

Don Singer

Can't believe I've never been here. Didn't have a lot of time to explore but happy to come back another day soon. Hatchery was closed this day so looking forward to coming when its open.

Yiqun Chen

I've been here more than once, but never see many fish. The trails nearby are nice, but not much a work out as if you drive a little further North

David Lui

I went here once and this place is amazing ive seen many salmon fish and i went up to see the waterfall part of the hatchery it has scenic views and a instgramable spot i took tons and tons and tons pictures here i would want come back

Kaveh Hajighazi

Amazing trails and scenery. The overall hike is mild and can be easily done by everyone. The hike takes you way above the river and gives you an eagle eye's view of the river. During the salmon season you could watch the salmon run up the river and rest at the base of the hatchery. There are stairs at about the half way point of the hike that leads all the way down the cliff and onto the river. You have to visit it during salmon season for an amazing experience.

Fabiana Santana

Nothing impressive to be honest, the scenic from the park itself and the views are amazing but this is not worth checking out in my opinion!

Etienne F

Beautifully presented and very interesting displays depicting the life cycle of salmon and steelhead. And it's free!

Mohammed Uzair Admani

Had initially gone to see the Capilano Suspension Bridge but realized that we didnt have enough time to enjoy it to its fullest and justify the cost. Found this nearby and really enjoyed it! Great trails nearby, beautiful views in the gorge and the Hatchery was fun to visit and learn about as well.

Nick Rusch

We happened to stop by this park on our way down from Grouse Mountain, and glad we did. There is a lot of inclined walking along good trails. Those with mobility issues or strollers that want to visit the hatchery should use the lower …

Aggie57 greenhill

I visited this facinating hatchery, way back in 1994.really well stocked salmon farm.was well worth visit to learn story of young salmon from tiddlers to a size released into capilano river after being tagged monitered. Ending up as far as the river bush in bushmills, Northern Ireland.

J Savoy

Absolutely love this place, we had a field trip behind the scenes tour. Usually late September/early October there are tens of thousands of salmon jumping up the ladder.

Kris Hadis

Quite entertaining for those who never saw jumping salmon in real life.

Erika Quee

A great place to see salmon up close. The best time to view the spawning salmon swimming up the fish ladder is October/November. There are excellent, scenic hikes and walks around too.

Wally Muzlantov

If you are interested in salmon and the different kinds of salmon then this is the place to come to as you will be given a tour and information. You get to see see how salmon manage to go upstream . It can be an interesting place to come to and find out about this fish and it's life cycle.

Luke Coutu

Love seeing all the fish do there thing.

Dave Weinberg

Once of the most beautiful hikes I have ever taken - and it is minutes from downtown Vancouver. I went early in the morning and walked around one of the trails, taking pictures and admiring the beauty of the local fauna and creatures.

OPHELIA

It's free and easy to go when you going to Capilano Suspension Bridge at the same time especially in the end of Sep to Oct, you can see how the salmon swimming back! A good place there

Aimée Cho

Fish and eagles and all of nature in its glory is on display here, if you are lucky enough to time it right when you come here. Beautiful any time of year, actually it's an awesome place to visit multiple times throughout the year so you can see it in the different seasons.

Chris Dingus

Cool spot to see how they're hatching salmon.

Jaycee C.

Not much to see. I guess depends on the time of the year. Saw salmon in the tank. Was hoping to see more salmon fry. Limited parking and entrance is tiny...may miss the entrance. Wilderness of the North Shore.

Amit Mohanka

Went here with my little one to see the jumping salmons. They've made a salmon ladder through the museum for the fishes to take a detour from the main river and give visitors an amazing experience. Will definitely recommend going here. The trails are nice too. We did the Coho trail. Pretty mild even for a 4 year old. All the best.

Greg Stein

Good trail network available directly from the hatchery.

Vincent Cheng

The hatchery was nice and had everything displayed well , would recomend entering from the southern enterance of the park as opposed to the dam, the dam's enterance walk down is long but the walk up is all stairs

Abhinav Arnold

The information on Salmons was interesting, and the hike was great with easy trails.

Rylen Campbell-Stovell

It's really nice. I'd recommend enjoying some time walking around the trails, going to the dam, and relaxing in the cozy concrete park that is the fish hatchery. Pack a lunch.

Katie Kwan

We saw many jumping salmon, what a great experience!

Joy Walsh

As it was June when I visited, there were no fish on display, wrong time of year. According to my hosts, when in season the place is amazing. Apart from the Hatchery, the walks were fabulous and beautiful with streams and forests all around. A good experience indeed.

Johnson Kanagaraj

This is a hatchery located on the Capilano river to promote the hatching of salmon because it was declining. This hatchery helps in promoting the population of salmon which goes on declining because of several opstacles. This programme helps in overcoming some of them and thereby the population of salmon augmented. This hatchery has many advantages and has hundreds of visitors to see the movement of salmon during their reproductive phase. Parking facility is available.

Cory Paterson

Great spot to view the returning coho & chinook salmon in the fall. Good for kids.

Benoit Larochelle

This. Is. A. Must. If you are passing even remotely close to this place, do your family a favor and stop there. Admittance is free, and you can see salmons climbing a fake river right in front of you. Really fun! This is also really informative, and a nice project to support.

Anna Velychko

Small but intresting place. A goodplace to learn about the fish life cycle. With ability to see in real time, how the fish dealing with the river stream.

Petra Ludde

I have been walking in these trails for years. It's perfect for any fitness level, dogs and families. There's no admission and lots of different walks you can do. The scenery is breathtaking and I enjoy it every time I go.

Kelly Wilkinson

Not only is this place educational, but there are also beautifully structured staircases built into the natural architecture of the forest. You can come for the view of Capilano Dam, set up a croquet game up at the top of the hill, or adventure across the mountainside with your family and friends. Great place for videography, photography, meditation, and general happiness. Come learn about ways we can sustain healthy sea life! In the facility itself there are windows which you can watch juvenile salmon hopping up the falls. Great opportunity for youth, Vancouver residents, and visitors to Canada to learn how a facility is organized to hatch salmon and support the next generations of salmon who will continue to thrive in these waters. These salmon who live their life to reproduction become food for the wildlife and us as fishers. The pathways to get there is a beautiful experience on its own. Come have a breath of fresh air.

Susan Rochefort

This is a hidden treasure! Bring a picnic lunch as they have some tables set up. Bring a back pack and go hike the trails. The views are fabulous and what a great place to take some outdoor photos.

Jessica Mcguiness

A beautiful walk with great views and lots to see. The salmon hatchery is a cool place to see with very easy to get to via bus from downtown and it’s very educational

jerry maliwanag

Great place to see salmon running if it's the season. You can't see the hatchery tanks with the little fish in it though. They do have aquariums with a couple of small fish on display. Great hiking trails from here. Love it cause it's free.

Ian Cruse

One of those rare times where you’ll agree with the way your tax dollars have been spent. Nice trails and an excellent resource to educate yourselves and your children on salmon.

Craig

Good spot, very educational, this is the real deal with legitimate fish ladders and tones of salmon. We went the first week of November and the ladders were full of fish.

Julieta Morawski

Beautiful place to go for a hike and walk around the hatchery. It's free to see the fish inside the hatchery.

Ann L (Faye)

It is incredibly nice here, I shouldn't have delayed going for so many years. The damn is impressive, the hatchery isn't big but well designed and informative. Most if the trails are easy to walk (some are steep and muddy so for those …

Mikhail Sverdlov

Hard to believe that a beautiful picturesque views like these are with in city limits.

אורי יונוביץ

Amazing museum of salmons life, a hatchery and a shallow part of the river where we saw an american eagle, lutras, mature salmons and other birds. Amazing.

Sunny Chau

One of the few hidden gems in the Vancouver area as a tourist attraction. Very educational displays about salmon conservation, of special interest is the fish ladder which depicts how various species of salmon come home to spawn upstream and complete their life cycles after spending their adult lives in the Pacific Ocean. The hatchery is actually fully operational and admission is free

Lesley Johnson

I loved walking through the hatchery! They have a lot of ways for you to see the salmon and its really a beautiful area.

Todd Gingerich

Very informative and interesting adventure.

Julie Artis

Capilano Canyon is one of the best areas to go walking or jogging in North Vancouver. Enjoy getting lost amongst endless trails and trees!

Sharon Ingham

If you've never visited a hatchery, it is worth your time visiting this one. Educational for all ages and easy walking.

Flynn Knowles-Barley

A beautiful walk from the capilano suspension bridge, along the river and through the forest. Free entry and plenty of trails in the area for more exploring. Toilet facilities and information on the area are on site.

Siqin Liu

Really nice place for either a walk or family visit. You can see how salmon jumps to lay their eggs, it was not a lot of them jumping at the same time but still amazing. All free.

CC Chan

Feeling like to take a stroll in the old growth forest? This tail is for you! A very easy walk to take you along the Cap river and to almost the base of the dam. Take loads of fresh air in to clean out your lungs while enjoy the towering trees will certain refresh your mind and soul.

Adam Ashurst

Beautiful spot with lots of informational plaques. And take a bit of time to cross the bridge and walk up the trail for a view at the base of Cleveland Dam.

Keith N

Good place to visit with kids to learn about Salmon life cycle...favorite memory.. two kids looking at salmon entering the fish ladder at River and screaming "COOL!" when large salmon jumped in

Peace For All

Pulled out summer run coho long ago; our government is not doing enough to stop pirating countries from preying on our waters, and replenishing stocks. Heftier fines and jail for those who abuse our resources as we need more enforcement on rivers. Too many don't write down spring adult catches and violate daily catch quotas. Seen too much pressure on rivers from our growing diverse cultures and river runs have dropped big time. We need to cull marauding seals who scarf down salmon as seen on Chehalis river, Harrison lake, stave river and more.

Anson Leung

It is always a fun place to take the kids and learn about salmon. Keep in mind parking is limited, so if you are visiting when it is salmon run season, you might be waiting for a long time for a space or walking a long distance. It was a cool experience for the kids to see real live salmon jumping up the ladder.
