The mun botanical gardens is an amazing place that shows of the wonderful nature of Newfoundland, the importance of gardening and the diversity of plans. Perfect place to go on a sunday. Low entry fee and free for MUN students. What are you waiting for?

We were provide free tickets from our airbnb host to the Botanical Garden's. We took her up on the offer and bike to the gardens (pretty hilly at some points) and it was a really tranquil place to visit. Right from the friendly staff, the indoor setup to the beautiful, recently renovated path ways. We loved the greenery as well as the vegetable garden and green house that had setup, those ripe tomatos looked divine! Nice place to visit if you have time

Andrew Hamlin

The workers were very helpful and kind. The plants are beautiful and cared for regularly to keep things fresh, new and interesting! Definitely worth a visit if you're interested.

Lauren Butler

Absolutely beautiful, the winter lights they do are incredible and in the summer all the plants are amazing. Only criticism is it's too expensive in the winter. They offer student discounts in the summer but they just have a flat rate in the winter

Deon Pretty

Fred Apon

Absolutely wonderful spot to visit. We had some lunch in their little restaurant, outside. The gardens were gorgeous was well.

Raymond Lai

What a pleasant surprise! We were expecting flowers and the like, and what we got were well marked hiking trails, great scenery, a lake full of ducks, and a wonderful afternoon of hiking and learning about flora and fauna. I would recommend this place to any nature lover! Ask if they have any freshly harvested produce available. We grabbed a bag of radishes from the garden for a buck! They were delicious!

Went for the festival of lights in December 2019 and it was the first time I had been there in a very long time. Beautiful setup and I found myself wondering why I don't visit this place more often throughout the year. Will definitely go back next year for this and am looking forward to seeing more of what's offered year round.

This garden is a must see for people in the metro region. It's a wonderful escape from city life while still in the city. Appropriate place for kids and adults alike, although seniors and those with mobility issues may find the walk long. They have a winter wonderland too around christmas which is very beautiful

Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great walking trail, wheelchair accessible and good for kids.

Merry and Bright was very well done. Minorly confusing signage about the bus shuttle and slightly overpriced tickets and drinks were the only downfalls.

Kazeem ADEFEMI

My first time here and I really liked the experience. Not many flowers or fancy garden as I expected, but the trails, the pond and lots of natural views, more than compensated for that

Debcar Jackson

Moving from a house to an apartment left us a little longing for "working in the garden", MUN Botanical gardens is the perfect cure for this. The house gardening became too much for us so having this wonderful venue available to us is great. It has so many varieties of plant life, is impressively maintained and also has trails to provide well needed exercise and a place to connect with nature. Season passes are reasonable, especially for seniors.

Ayush Singh

Very well kept gardens. A must do on trip to St. John's

MUN Botanical Garden is a horticultural treasure trove. It has over 250 different flowering rhododendron, which is one of the largest collections in all North America. The cultivated garden area has a greenhouse and a large collection of plants. Many of them named for educational purposes. It has a rock garden. Many of the rocks and boulders are made of limestone and have plants that only grow in limestone regions. the garden has nature trails that are easily navigated . Also a field house that has a gift shop, The Garden cafe, art shows and is devoted to education and research. No matter what time of year you visit during working hours the staff are friendly and the garden is sure to educate or inspire you.

Brittany Oram

Valerie Reid

My family and I had an amazing experience at the Merry and Bright Festival. Well planned, organized and the displays were amazing. There were even a small group singing Christmas Carol's. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers.

Elias Galindo Paredes

Beautiful spot in Newfoundland’s capital where you will learn the basics about local plants and ecosystems.

Kevin Damen

I love the gardens, they are great, many speacies. I find it nice to walk around the flowers and get an idea about what might work in my garden, if I am lucky... The trails are also nice, and friendly and unlike every other trail I have been on in newfoundland these are not designed to kill anyone. The rest makes me wonder if Parks Canada outsourced trail design to a maximum security prison. The gift shop is nice, it would be better with more things were made in Newfoundland and less of the China nicknacks. I am not a fan of the cafe, it needs work, alot of work. Just about everyone about it looks wrong. The cafe looks horrable, just everything about it is wrong.

Gerald Clancey

Great place to stop and smell the roses.

guide to the good

The garden is filled with beautiful flowers and the paths make it into a spot where people can stroll through the garden. It is a great place to visit and learn about all the plants! The cafe and gift shop are also amazing!

Tamara Dodgson

Beautiful gardens and trails - Definitely need plenty of time to explore though...2 hours was not enough!

Trish Wilson

Such a great place to learn, to enjoy the outdoors, and to walk. Nice gift shop too :)

Miriam MacLeod (Mimi)

We went for Shakespeare in the Garden. It was evening time. The garden was magical and the perfect backdrop for the selected monologues. Worth visiting any time of the year for the special gardens, trails, and information.

A beautiful spot for a stroll, and to learn more about the flora and fauna.

Jeanie Lewis

Every time I have visited the garden, it's even more beautiful than the last! I have a family membership for the season and it's a great activity for me and my kids to do. We often take a walk then go to the cute little café for a bite to eat. The food and service is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone. Our family also participates in the events such as Garden Days or Seniors' Day. The garden is a place for everyone, of any age and it is a great place to relax and take in the beauty of nature!

Michael Corcoran

Very nice place especially in the winter.

Shelly Feltham

Beautiful place to visit for all ages! So many different types of plant species and animals.

Darryl Yetman

That will be the last time I go there. Parking is a joke, right across the road from the entrance is a empty parking lot, but you're not aloud to park there. It's only for volunteers. Their people on the gate have absolutely no idea what they are at or how to control traffic for all the people walking from a km away up the hill from where they had to park. Because of the extremely poor set up, the total uselessness of the people on the entrance and the fact you have to walk up and down the road with traffic going up and down the road, this will end up being one of the Christmas tragedies you hear about on the news after a person or child gets knocked down by a vehicle. Mun you CAN and SHOULD be doing better then this.

Goonersfan1980

Lovely find. Lots of different gardens to explore as well as great woodland trails

Chris E

Great selection of flowers and foliage to view.

Matthew Rideout

My father in law took us to the botanical gardens for the first time today. My two sons had a blast exploring all the trails and searching for fairy doors and gnomes. They have a vast array of plants from all over the world and the staff are quite knowledgeable about them. You can easily spend hours just exploring the trails and looking at the beautiful plants. The cost for adults is $8.00 and children under 5 are free.

Kathy Davies

Quiet gardens with beautiful plants and lovely trails!

Sonya Richmond

It was suggested to me to visit the MUN Botanical Garden while visiting St. John's. I am ever grateful for that suggestion! Friendly staff, wonderful gardens and great pathways - oh and be sure to enjoy their cafe as well! A must!

pei miriam

Merry and Bright was great. Too bad about the weather. The gardens are stunning. Worth a visit any time of the year. Summer is best of course!

For only $9/adult and free for young children, can spend a nice afternoon walking the trails and enjoy the lookout. Plenty of shade and seating for breaks. Great info and tips on posted signs. Nice little hike for the family.

Ken Taylor

Haunted howl was awesome for our kids.

Jonathan Benoite

The gardens are lovely, the walking trails are well kept, but I feel I paid a lot to take a walk that I could do for free elsewhere. It wasn't overly expensive, I just feel it was expensive for a walking trail and gardens.

Trudy POWER

Very well.maintained property. All staff were knowledgeable.

Kathryn Snow

Lights phenomenal, magical and injects Christmas spirit in all who visit. Shuttle buses very well coordinated.

Robert Young

Prices are fair and many trails and new things for the kids to find. Very interactive????

Gerard Squires

At Christmas, Merry and bright is beautiful. Light show from local businesses on display for the public to see

An extraordinary presence in an oppressive winter. But alas, not accessible to mere mortals. Blocked off, secured, protected, jailed beauty. Most discouraging.

Very beautiful place to see. Lots of walking and great accessibility for those who need it. Trail hiking for those who love to get out and exercise. You could go for the day and see it all or go for a bit to see just a little. Not able to comment on the food as I didnt test it out. There is a gift shop and washrooms available

Lucy Telford

Lovely place to walk around. It was advertised that it takes an hour and a half to walk through, but we found that if you actually want to see the plants, and if it's a hot day, it takes far longer. The wollemi pine and the good weather make it well worth a picnic day visit.
