Feeding the ducks is a must (bird seed please not bread) Saw an old totem pole in there, an owl, there's a nice rose garden, an outdoor swimming pool, a ball field next to it. Day use only. Bad rep for going there at night but not many people would do that anyway

Nice place to idle your time away. Many places you can find for those secluded spots. The winter,when we get snow you can go sledding.Sledding in Canada,no lessons required. You will need a slay of some sort.A toboggan is good idea. Have fun,play safe.

The park is pretty big. You can play frisbees or picnic here. Many trails, there are kids playgrounds, a pool, a duck pond, beautiful waterfall, and tennis courts. It's a great and peaceful park.

The park is nice and well taken care of. I explored the walking trails in the nature section of the park with school. We needed to go off trail for the assignment and we found a few homeless camps with lots of used needles. Please be careful and watch your children if you allow them to go off trail.

Really nice forest trail with a waterfall, huckleberries, some deer, and old growth trees. There is a salmon creek as well but currently no salmon. About a half hour walk through. There is also some totem poles that have been places on the ground due to wear and tear over the years. You can get a little lost in here as there are multiple directions you can go. Smells like nature! There is also a swimming pool at this park, parking, and disc golf.

Great park to walk through. I give the trees a 30 out of 34. Sometimes it's on fire and you have to call the fire department. I give the entertainment a 4/5 because the fire department works so effeciently the show ends earlier than anticipated. I guess that's government work for you. Anyway. If you like watching stoners play disc golf and bros getting married at the duck pond(I know I do!), this is the park for you.

Great park for many activities. Disc golf course is challenging and fun. The rhododendron garden is awesome in bloom. There is a great place for a family gathering that is covered in case it rains. There is a barbeque pit as well, just don't forget to bring a bag of briquettes. Tennis courts are quite busy during the nicer weather. If that isn't enough to keep you busy, there is also beach volleyball courts. Side out anyone?

Quickie little spot that's actually more of a green space next to a river than a full park. Had a couple of trails and then some spaces to sit. Didn't stay very long because the wasps were in full effect! But that might have just been by the viewpoint on the Riverside. a good little respite when you are in that part of town

Bowen Park is a very large centrally located expanse of land in the heart of Nanaimo, BC. There are many recreational buildings on the property, including a pool. The Millstone River runs through the entire park. A lovely waterfall is located close to a convenient parking area. In the winter and spring, the waterfall provides a wonderful and nearby opportunity for long exposure photography. It's a great way to perfect your techniques, learn about using filters and manual mode photography.

Gorgeous scenery and a very nice walk very close to downtown Nanaimo. We took our friend's dog for a walk here and he absolutely loved it. We also got to see some ducks, which was not only unexpected but very welcome. Throw in the fact that it was both free and well-maintained and it wins in my books.

Its alot larger than youd think being so central.. But definitely you can tell its close to downtown as it doesnt have a clean forest vibe. You're likely to see garbage, tents or blankets sprude about. But overall the waterfall is worth the walk and its pretty quiet.

Walked the paths many times over the last 20 years. I have seen, eagles, herons, deer and wildflowers galore. Millstone River changes from a roaring torrent in the Spring to a tiny trickle in high Summer. Always a wonderful walk!

Urban gem that is probably overlooked! Some really great trails for walking and running here - good parking and accessibility, but I'd say the trails are a bit too narrow for large strollers or some scooters. There's also a paved road that the trails loop in and out of, so you won't be left out if packed dirt or gravel trails aren't your thing. The Millstone trail around the creek isn't the most accessible - some short steep sections and stairs. There's a cute amphitheatre near the parking area that would be great for weddings and is used throughout the summer for performances. Signage on trails isn't the best. It's worth picking up the city's walking/hiking trail map before you go or taking a pic of the park overview map to use on your phone while you're walking/hiking. It's totally worth exploring the walking/hiking trails - some gorgeous gems hidden in the forest!

I held my wedding ceremony at the outside theater, took all my wedding photos in the park and held my wedding reception at the hall. Lots of parking and very clean.

The only down side is our city has allowed the homeless to camp 24/7 in this park & this can be startling when you aren't expecting a stranger in the middle of the forest. Kind of makes you wonder where do they go to the bathroom? Where do they put their garbage?

It's a beautiful walk in the heart of the city. They have a salmon habitat stream, waterfall, easy and strenuous walks, a pool in the summer and a great kids play area by the main building. There is frisbee golf, but I have never tried it.

This is a beautiful area full of trails and natural landscapes that allow for great photography or even just a nice place to wander about with loved ones. You can explore many different areas with Volley Ball, Basketball, tennis, Frisbee Golf and even swimming areas set up. All that said this is a very different place at night.

Bowen park is a beautiful city park that I wonder sometimes if the people of Nanaimo take it for granted! Stream with waterfall, duck pond, children's playground, tons of trails, little bridges, picnic shelters, water fountains, Rhododendrons, old growth trees, tennis courts, volley ball, and so much more! I belong to a group called Nanaimo Rocks! on Facebook and we paint rocks and hide them for people to find and Bowen Park is one of the frequent locations to hide rocks.

Great place to go with your family! There are tons of things to do here as long as you have your own equipment. There is tons of shade throughout the park so even on sunny days you can keep somewhat cool! Frisbee Golf and beach volleyball courts are a highlight!

If you got kids great public swimming pool and swings etc kids will tire themselves out here....well the ones without ADHD....just saying, I have it nothing tired me out as a kid, and still nothing does yet....sorry to the parents with wild kids I know what y'all being put through....I put my parents through it....

This park has many great features to attract a variety of visitors. There are volleyball courts complete with sand. There is a duck pond, many nice trails to walk or run on. There are a couple waterfalls along the river trails. At the right time of year you can see the salmon swimming up river. So much to see at Bowen Park. Lot's of hidden gems along the trail. We love the duck pond but be sure to bring some bird food for the kids enjoy feeding the ducks. I did not see any sign boards feeding the ducks. Correct me I am wrong. Lots of birds and other wildlife to see. It would be fun to do bird watching here. The trail is wide which is good for Social Distancing. The falls is amazing. Instagrammable beauty. We love the fall colors and the moss accent. The trail is mostly flat and easy. We enjoyed our walk and took a lot of fall pictures. I cannot believe that it is situated at the city center.

This park is delightful at any time of year. There are numerous paths around the Millstone River, through rainforest, gardens and grassy Hills and expanses. There is a duck pond and an outdoor amphitheatre where naturalists frequently give presentations. There are recreational facilities, tennis courts, lawn bowling and a seasonal, outdoor swimming pool. There are picnic facilities and cook houses. The park covers several acres of land. Check it out.

The tennis courts are nice. Well maintained, with a good surface. There is good drainage no puddles, they do take a while to dry because of the abundant shade, but the shade is nice in the summer too. The dick pond is fun for a bit of photography, but bring a fast lens, because again, lots of shade.

There is a gorgeous pond with water fountain where the ducks were swimming around and folks could pull up a seat on one of the many benches and rest their feet and watch the birds. Frisbee golf, community center, outdoor swimming pool, lawn bowling, tennis courts, they have 2 small playgrounds, duck ponds and fountains. You can walk along the river right to downtown Nanaimo. Great park. Cool river. Lots of trails. I like the closed road that nature is slowly taking over. But be careful. Since nanaimos homeless population have had Wesley street closed to them alot are setting up camp in the forest. Lots of shouting about, trash, and stolen goods scattered about. Bowen park near the field parking lot usually has junkies hanging out there too

Great park for all sorts of activities. Outdoor pool in the summer, lawn bowling, beach volleyball, catch crayfish in the river. Bring some birdseed and feed the ducks at the pond!

The parks is big has a few different trails there is a really nice area for some one to get married or have gathering(when covids over) I found it a light walk with lots of sunny area and some shade too

So many activities! Try and keep up. I take my dog - it s all on leash but there are plenty of trails and benches and other dogs to meet or avoid. There is also FROLF which is fun and mostly shaded which is nice. Tennis courts, Rhododendron garden, the millstone River beautifully rolling down the rocky plateaus. Watch for otters! Go to the duck pond with little ones. Also beach volleyball, the pool, lawn bowling and the community center. Oh and I think there is a small play structure as well - it is fenced.

This place was an amazing treat! A total gem I would have had no idea was hidden in the middle of the city. It really has everything to explore for a nature walk and an easy fun filled day for exploring right in your own hometown. I've heard strange things about meetups in this park so I've never checked it out. But I was in the area and had a few hours to kill! Boy I'm glad I did! And I would go again. But respect the park hours and stay clear of any shenanigans at night...not too family friendly I am sure !

The park is absolutely gorgeous. And the bathrooms etc. are usually very clean. However we went there at noon to have a small bbq. And the upper picnic area by the pool was full of hobo trash

Gorgeous 90 acre park with seniors center, disc golf, walking/running trails, sports field, beach volleyball, tennis courts, picnic shelters, horseshoe pitch, outdoor swimming pool, children's playground, beautiful Millstone river running through the park. When you're right down in the park, you can't even hear the sounds of the city... it's certainly one of the jewels in the midst of Nanaimo. My only issues are that there should be a few picnic tables in the grassy area between the two upper parking lots and the washrooms and picnic shelters should be open longer hours all year long.

Hard to believe this is a city park! There are trails galore, moderate hikes to be had. You can view cultured gardens, wooly forest, salmon habitats, waterfalls (at their best after the autumn rains), creeks and bogs. Wildlife includes your usual urban squirrels, rabbits and songbirds, as well as herons, owls, pileated woodpeckers, ducks, turtles and carp. Play a round of disc golf, swim in the outdoor pool, join the lawn bowling club, learn about the salmon lifecycle or just enjoy a stroll!
