REVIEWS OF Saamis Tepee IN Medicine Hat

You just have to stop and check out the Worlds Largest tepee! Its simply amazing! Easy to get to from the highway and lots of parking. I really enjoyed all of the stories that went along with the art work. Great Indigenous, Prairies and Canadian heritage.

Robin Checkowy

Melaida Corpuz

Great educational experience for the kids. The area is beautiful and we did a hike in the coulee below.

Logan Edwards

Much cooler than I expected. The art on the interior is really cool, should definitely take a look whether Medicine Hat is your destination city, or you just need to stretch your legs on a road trip.

Naz Madani

Worth seeing one time at the very least!

You will be amazed at this gigantic teepee. You can also learn about first nation culture.

Cammie Kannekens

This is a great spot for a rest stop while travelling the Trans Canada highway. There’s always room in the parking lot. There are walking trails into the nearby coulee. It’s next door to the Medicine Hat Tourist Center. There is one of the beautiful murals from local brick artist, James Marshall.

Terri Messenger (messenabout, TMe)

While I did not visit here I hope to one day. I'm concerned about the references to Native AMERICAN culture. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not Canada? That would make it Indigenous First Peoples of Canada culture.

Patrick Villacorta

My son requested us to stop at this one and I don't regret it. It's a giant teepee with some artwork around it's circumference. No entry off the highway but still easy enough to get to. Not much to do really other than snap a few pics and read the displays. Surrounding area seems to have some hiking paths. The visitor centre is also nearby so you could get more info about Medicine Hat and the area. Visited May 2016

A little disappointed that the infamous Medicine Hat teepee didn't stretch over the entire city like a biodome, but hey. You can't ask for everything in life, right? Beautiful historical spot overlooking a fairy-tale looking valley complete with a sparkling stream and tall grass. The teepee is educational with reading displays and I was thrilled to learn about Aboriginal culture and Medicine Hat history. The teepee definitely lived up to its expectations. Whoever said Medicine Hat was boring?

Chelsea Finnigan

My favourite thing about this teepee is when someone edited the sign to make it say "world's smallest peepee"

No direct access from the highway but a worthwhile stop. Along with the massive teepee were beautiful pieces of artwork all laid in with the the poles. Alongside there is a decent view of Medicine Hat. Good wide spread parking area and well maintained. A golf course is right beside it adding to the greenery. A nice stop for pictures. Lots of history of the area.

David Turner

The #1 tourist thing to see in Medicine Hat. Great hiking trails as well.

Quite nice as a tourist attraction but nothing to do around there. If we had time there was a trail we could have walked but it was baking hot and a short stop before heading out. The tourist information place was a bit further and very helpful with a playground.

Tom Zychowski

Interesting meeting place.

Mark St James

What an incredible experience. The history of this place is astonishing as it is said that there are over 83 million artifacts buried at this Northern Plains Archeological sites. The artwork in the centre is beautiful and tell stories of Aboriginal peoples. Definitely a must-see if hiking or just driving through Medicine Hat. Beware though! The underground passage this time of year is thawing and un-passable so I had to hike through the coulee up through the the university, down a long path, then up over the highway to get to the tepee. A quick hike turned into over 10km. Get your hiking shoes on!

Such a beautiful structure! It was amazing to get the opportunity to see it all lit up. If your in the area you wont want to miss stopping here for an upclose experience as well as getting the chance to read about the history of this location and the people who shared this land. Very informative plaques and beautiful art work to accompany each ones story.

The Medicine Hat Tepee (or Saamis Tepee) is a landmark in southeast Alberta, dedicated to Canada’s indigenous past, present & future. Originally created as a centre-piece for the 1988 Winter Olympics, it was moved to Medicine Hat and erected near the Trans Canada Highway. Located near the Medicine Hat Tourism Centre, the area boasts a beautiful, pristine landscape situated above a coulee valley. Amenities nearby include off-leash dog park, biking trails (paved and natural), ball diamonds, and more. Plus inside the adjacent tourist centre, you’ll find maps, mementos, washrooms, wifi and more. ACCESSIBILITY: Fully accessible, however keep in mind this area can be quite windy. Keep in mind, washrooms are not 24 hrs, as they are inside the adjacent tourist centre.

A spot to rest and to learn. Beautifully done.

Very nice city with lots history

Very nice and historical place, if you around Medicine Hat definitely have to visit it. There is a tourist information center just one min near the Teepee, and the staff is very nice and helpful. You can buy some postcards or magnets to take home. There is some truck food around this places too and are for the kids to play.

Awesome!

Awesome side of the highway experience in Medicine Hat Ample parking, and completely free of charge. Has great murals/paintings of First Nations people, and each painting has a information board below it. Trails below the area as well to walk around, and to experience the Tepee from different angles. There's a visitor centre a tiny bit up the street as well, with washrooms, etc, but only accessible during hours of operations

Matthew Martin

Great place to visit ????

Samuel Cooper

Great place to bring the family and catch a quick refresher on native history. Granted there might be some rowdy teens in the parking lot time and again, they won't bother you. Always worth a visit.

Worlds largest teepee. The space is well maintained. I didn’t find the attraction itself too interesting.

This was a surprising find. The art and information is interesting, but the 5 star experience is how it feels. It has that spiritual feeling I get when I walk into a church. My kids spent an hour just enjoying each other’s company.

Great place to visit to learn some history. Great structure to admire, plenty of plates to learn about cultures here. Including how this city got it's name from.

It is an interesting homage to First Nations. Not too exciting a stop but if you are travelling and have the chance to pull off and find it, it has some artwork at the Tepee. If you are an RV'er the nearby Tourism office has a free RV dump site with potable water. Very important.

(Translated) Beautiful city & short trail. I know Banff, but I don't know the small town of Joren. But this is a very peaceful and nice city. In particular, yo... walking the trail behind the symbol is really refreshing. The scenery is also good. The topography of Yorun runs all the way from Drumheller to the bottom. (Lesbridge is also a topography) (Original) Beautiful city & short trail.
