You must have seen that it has an average rating is quite positive, and it is based on a very large number of opinions, so we can be pretty sure that the evaluation is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to rate when they are satisfied, it works.
You know that we don't usually stop to put feddbacks when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Zoo corresponds to the category of Pet adoption service.
Great friendly environment and happy animal's.
Friendly staff answered all my questions
Excellent staff. Beautiful, well taken care of pets. Reasonable price. Clean. I adopted 2 beautiful cats.
We got our cat from here. Not only is she part of our family now, but whenever I go back, there's always someone there that still remembers her 3 years later.
I put in an adoption request for a dog, phoned 6 times on this poor dog and even offered to pay for her spaying myself. Always given an excuse as to why the dog was not available yet, exposed to kennel cough etc. While I do admit I do not have a fence in yet because it is a new home, the fence and yard starts Monday...they never even bothered to call me when they adopted the dog to someone else. I think the office is poorly managed and hopefully with time things will get better. My quest for a companion will now continue with a different agency after my month long wait, and I now know better than to deal with them in the future unless their policies change. On the other hand, the staff is very nice to deal with and they offer lots of helpful information on the animals they find homes for.
We love our family new member! Amazing experience ????
We adopted our beautiful Meeka girl from the SPCA last June, and she has been by far the BEST decision I ever made ! The staff are amazing, attentive and make sure all the animals are receiving top notch care ???? We will absolutely we visiting them again when the time comes to add an additional furry critter to love ❤️ remember to adopt not shop ✌????
The staff are kinda grumpy I felt sad for the animals inside
I have recently learned that the SPCA did an unspeakable act to an ailing 70 year old woman who could no longer look after her cats. A neighbour brought her cats in to relinquish them and they were put on a waiting list. Weeks later they were called to bring the cats in only to have the SPCA take the cats to APARC and leave them in their drop box claiming them as strays instead. 3 of the 4 cats were euthanized for behaviour issues. It's all being covered up and lied about. This is horrendous and they need to answer for it!!
Great care and attention paid to all animals
Doing an awesome job.
What a great place for animals looking for a home...the staff is so friendly and caring. It's always a joy to visit. I didn't find what I wanted, but no problem, they took my name and phone number, and they will call me when a dog comes in that fits my description. Thanks MHSPCA...!
Awesome friendly and saving pets all the time
I enjoy visiting the animals ! The staff are always so helpful , I adopted my dog there a year ago ! Best thing that ever happened to me:)
Great place
We got a dog from here several years ago and forgot the dogs birthday. The staff here got us the information in a timely manner and were genuinely happy to help.
Very caring staff
The best place in the world
I love everything they do for unwanted and un loved animals!♡♡
A wonderful place to visit animals and keep them company
I love this place they are so welcoming and they treat you like family. The animals are treated like there own (dogs, cats, and rodents) Dogs have plenty of room to run outdoors. Overall best place to adopt a pet. Very pleasant experience
Love Animals. Need more Volunteers, More Furever homes, and lots more support
Gave me a pregnant dog.... their response when I told them “awe cute!” Very inconvenient :(
Great staff. They need a new building.
Excellent spay nueter program.great staff
The staff are great here. Really care for the animals.
Adopt a cat or dog, your saving a life.
It was good
They do important work.
My family and I tried to adopt a dog in May for our farm. The volunteers/ staff seemed excited for us to adopt this Dog (Blue) as he had been there for a while. It all seemed to check out and they were very excited for us to take this dog to our loving home. An hour later we received a call from the SPCA saying that they don't think that Blue would be not be suitable for our farm as they thought that he would run away and be cold. However my father brought up the point that this dog did not want to be in cages and only special volunteers could handle this perfectly behaved dog (Blue). They had no regard for this comment and continued to make up excuses as to why they did not want us to have this dog (Blue) we finally gave up and will not be going back. It seemed as the staff and volunteers were too attached to this dog and did not want him to leave, it is not their job to get attached to these animals it is there job to find them a home. A couple months after this incident (July) we looked back on the website and the dog (Blue) was still there. This place is not a good establishment and it seems like they don't want the animals to leave. I would recommend that someone would go to BAPS (Brooks) as they are much more friendly and actually want their animals to go to a home that deserves them. Will not be going back here ever!
Those people are the best. Did you know that it's a no-kill shelter. That means if you have a pet you can no longer care for for whatever reason. Don't drop it off at the edge of town or in the industrial site.
Kind and caring staff
The accusations made against the SPCA are highly exaggerated and I would like to clarify the context from which the exaggerations come. The SPCA is not putting dogs to sleep to the extent that, De, the primary opponent of the shelter claims. Not all dogs are adoptable, usually, this is for behavioral reasons that make it difficult for people to want to keep them. However, before any dog is put to sleep the SPCA retains them for a long time and posts many ads on social media during that time and you can confirm this on your own, especially, in the very public case of Luhan. As long as they are adoptable, the shelter may hold an animal for a very long time or until they prove not adoptable. The great majority of animals are adopted or in foster homes. The SPCA can greatly minimize the animals put to sleep but cannot eliminate the possibility but De has made it seem as if the SPCA puts animals down indiscriminately. She is a former worker with grievances against management for her own personal reasons. They are not unfair reasons as I have witnessed the manager and office staff act in a manner very unbecoming of what should be a hospitable environment. I can only imagine what general staff must go through at times due to administration staff. Still, it is unfair of her to attack the whole SPCA and vilify it publicly to solver her personal problems. The SPCA provides a number of services other than just holding animals until adopted. Specifically, the shelter takes any kind of animal that are being relinquished by their owners. Complementing the shelter is the pound, APARC, which takes stray dogs, cats and wild cats only. The SPCA's wild cat equipment was transferred to APARC a long time ago when it was decided that APARC would deal with stray animals and the SPCA with relinquished pets. At the shelter every animal even bunnies are spayed and neutered. For people who already have pets but require financial assistance a Low Cost Program is applicable to a person whose income falls below a certain limit. This is an important community service as it ensures less animals end up in a facility or becoming stray. Courtesy holds are provided for a variety reasons, for example, the SPCA works with the women's shelter to protect animals from abusive households. The conditions in which the staff keep animals is excellent and you can see for yourself, thanks to the volunteer board of directors who are involved in fundraising and from the gracious variety of donations that are received from the public. This is an example of things I think most people may not be aware of or need to be reminded of. De has exaggerated everything in an irresponsible manner towards the animals by making people think they are not being well treated. Go see for yourself the animal's conditions! She is the very cause for her accusations. For example, the problem with the wild cats began because the lady who had them went to APARC first and they rejected them and denied their responsibility. So, she took them to the SPCA and De accepted the cats in error and they remained for several days at the shelter until staff realized the cats were too aggressive and wild. Because they were wild they should have been redirected to APARC immediately. APARC and De have been accusing the SPCA of all kinds of mistreatment and fraud on a foundation of their own mistakes and failure to do their jobs regards the wild cats. De has betrayed the shelter for personal reasons, the shelter has not betrayed its humanitarian mandate. Why is APARC, a municipal department, behaving so irresponsibly and so disgustingly tearing down the SPCA for what started as their own error? Hypocrisy and self-interest are the accusations of De, APARC and one more person... Nicole Anhorn, you were once a manager for the SPCA. Then you got fired for being lazy and useless. You gave nothing to the shelter and now you are trying to take revenge upon it for having been fired justifiably. So stop posting negative reviews to ease your grudge.
Fantastic place, my tenant did a midnight move and left behind 2 cats. The SPCA took them in and promised to find them a good home.
Very friendly
Their doggos are fluffy and cute including everything else they have there for adoption
Pepper was the goodest of Bois. Love this place. Staff was friendly and informative
They do good work.
This a great way to advertise jobs because people that are interested in animals visit your site intentionally and then you can be pretty sure they are pro SPCA / animal welfare. Gwen McFarlane (PS I am applying for the Assistant Kennel job, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get it!)
The map is now fixed! 55 Southwest Drive SW. It is no longer pointing at the Medicine Hat Hospital nor a house but thanks!
Spca is amazing
Go get a new pet.
Animals are well cared for.
Me and my friend went here and it was sooooo amazing! Wish I could go more often though cause my brother is allergic to cats
Love this place. Such awsome people
They were very nice and helpful!
Simple and worth it
I've been there a few times over the years. Hard working, animal loving staff
Wonderful folks , supportive
THE SPCA is a great place ????. They offer all sorts of help with your cat and dog , even if you are needing the spade or Neutered program also called the Snape program . If you are in need of a great life long animal , They also have that in many forms of rescued animals. THose animals are already tagged and neuterd and ready to be homed
I adopted both my cats from this location. Very happy with my furry roommates.
They do an incredible job every day. I dropped off some food/treats after I had my cat put down.
Fantastic establishment
Adopted a ferret ...cute little guy
I'd give zero stars if I could. This place is a joke and Audrey and Pam need to go. Last nights AGM was a complete joke aswell, the "independent" investigator was paid by MH SPCA making it a biased investigation and should never have happened. The SPCA will no longer have support from myself, my family, or friends, untill changes are made and guilty staff have been replaced. Shame on the people still working there. I pray all the animals currently there are ok but I doubt it with Audry still in charge, she's probably lining up next Wednesday's euthanasia day as I type.
It wasn't so much dislikes..it was disappointment. My mother died and left me her cat which I did not realize had had an injury. I phoned vets and they told me to try the SPCA for help. I have very very little money, I'm a single mom who is not able to work at this time. They're response to me asking for help was to say I had to give up my mom's cat... basically the only thing I had left of her because there was no other way they were willing to help us . I just found it sad that this animal had someone who loved it very much but just had not been expecting the financial burden out of the blue, and they're idea of help was surrender it, never see it again, never adopt another pet, and lose the last thing I had of my best friend
Dropped by to donate some food/treats & litter. Friendly staff.
Wow.... There are no other words. I will never give my support to this place until they clean up their act. I hope no one relinquishes their fur babies to this horror of a place
Very friendly loving staff great care they give to the animals. If u wanna donate something, will be appreciated ❤️❤️
Lady on the phone told me that my perfectly healthy (all shots and fixed male) with a bite history would be put down shortly after drop off, and was totally ignorant about the fact that I wanted help finding a better solution for the dog than death, guys read your reviews and make some changes this is so sad.
I've never been impressed with the staffing at the spca, never have they been welcoming or kind (except a select few who work with the animals in the back). The front desk ladies tend to never be too nice. I had watched the staff rudely tell this woman "he can't be in here, you need to leave". The ladies child was upset over something, and started to cry, the mom of this child was trying to calm him down and already was on her way to get up and out but her child went limp legged and made it hard for her to leave. The mom understood it wasn't good for the cats and that's why she why trying to calm him down. Instead of telling the mom she had to "leave" she could have nicely mentioned "if you don't mind taking him outside to calm himself down, you're more then welcome to come back in and enjoy the animals" I enjoy the animals at the Instead the lady insisted on being rude as if she had never had a child she had to calm down. I do believe a lot of people tend to stear away from the spca due to how some of the staffing can be. I have adopted from the spca before, and I will continue but for the benefits of the animals, not for the company..
Friendly people
Wo derful
Very well run.
I want to say thank you for introducing me to my new furbaby Squeaker. He has settled into his new home and is very happy.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff
Staff is too afraid to be assertive and give clear answers. They will go to hilarious and despicable heights to find excuses if they don’t think you deserve (or want) you to adopt a certain animal. This includes a fabricated story about someone with mental health issues wanting the same animal, saying you won’t be able to afford the Vet bills (which are up to date and come with 6 months included in the adoption fee). Go to APARC for your new family member, heck, given this SPCA’s reputation you might just find your desired SPCA pet there one day. It’s not above them to abandon poor, ‘unwanted’ pets to APARC. Whether to euthanize or make room for more ‘adoptable’ animals at their horribly run establishment.
Absolutely brilliant service. No-one should be buying a pet from anywhere else while these guys have animals that need families. They offer a complete service, they will help you choose an animal which will be suitable for your circumstances. They will help you through the adoption process and they are happy to provide advice on best care and training for your chosen animal. You can visit during opening hours and play with the animals to help you choose one which fits your family dynamics. They will neuter the animal to prevent unwanted babies and offer advice on chips to help identify the animal if it runs away. A great service at a great price.
The staff is great and very helpful
Such a loving atmosphere. So nice to see people who care so much
Friendly staff find it hard to leave without taking a dog home.
Had to give up my two cars they need food donations please help today
Super helpful and caring! They helped me surrender a pet when I thought there was no other hope. Never have had a problem here. Very good caring business
Love this place. Kathy who works their is awesome. I know all the staff and volunteer s work so hard to love and place their animals in the right homes.
Complete unreliable and incompetent. I paid for my cat to get neutered in january and waited 2aited for them to call.. they never did so I called back to ask about it and they were extremely rude saying that they did call me and that i was booked for the 23rd of February at the cross roads vet hospital. I went to my appointment there and they told me that the spca never sent my info and that there was no way I could get my cat in that day.. they dropped the ball 4 times for me all together and I am moving at the end of the month and can't take the cat with me... he had a home if he was fixed but now he doesn't and is going to ha e to live in a shelter now becaus3 of they're complete inability to do they're job
The staff was friendly and helped getting me kitten all done for surgery to get fixed great service!
They need so much, but they turn down a free vehicle from the City of Medicine Hat?????????????????????????????
The staff was very friendly!
rude staff made me feel like i was competing for an animal not rescuing
Adopted a pet from there, a well loved family member in his fur-ever home! Really disappointed by all the negative press on this organization recently however... Due diligence is needed to bring back some respectable community feedback in my opinion. More transparency less nepotism might be the first step.
Drop off a donation of food and toys for the dogs, staff friendly and more than happy to let you in with the dogs and take for walks
They're were very understanding and very well in answering my questions.
Always glad to see so many being g adopted
I was visiting yesterday with my grandchildren. I was appalled at the way the office person was yelling at two young girls. It was upsetting that we had to witness that behaviour. For that woman to be representing the SPCA is disgraceful. I feel awful for the girls that were subjected to that behaviour. I had to try explain to my Grandchildren then usher them out of there. We will not be returning.
They are incredable people taking care of the pets . Adopt a pet if you can. Please dont get a pet if you cant afford them, or not ready to keep for thier lifetime.
Obvously a great place!!! Always a happy/sad kinda visit.
Great, knowledgeable staff! Friendly service and great community centrepiece!!
Friendly helpful good customer service doing great work
Awesome people
Yesterday a visited the bunnies like all their animals, their care is excellent, they are always clean, they look so healthy an happy and the best thing is that they are exercised. good job.
Very Caring and helpful people.
Great help in all they do.
They did a cat test with a dog. Passed dog came home and killed a cat.
Good clean facility, great staff.
SPCA is a joke. Few times our family has gone into a Petsmart or SPCA to look at animals and end up finding a dog or cat we would like to add to our farm. Once we find out it takes a day to get approval for the animal plus all the paperwork that has to be filled out is way to much of a pain in the butt when I can just get on kijiji and get one with no hassle in minutes. I understand they want to make sure the animal is going to good home and all but more animals would go to homes if the paperwork and crap was cut down. Thanks
Uneducated staff
We are devastated to learn that Luhan is not at his forever home and that he was in fact returned to the Medicine Hat SPCA and Euthanized by the SPCA in December. As per their policy of having a binder that will detail vet recommended and approved euthanasia we asked to see the Binder yesterday and were told there is no binder. So, so, so sad that sweet Luhan is gone.
Staff was outstanding
Hard to find some one to help you .
The mhspca is horrible, proven that they falsify documents, kill animals unnecessarily, have a manager that doesn’t care, no compassion. They aren’t even worth 1/5 stars. The board of governors is a cluster of people that pass the blame. In my opinion and that of Many others I know of, they need to clean house, everyone on the board, and especially Audrey the current manager. I’ve seen the proof. The documents tampers with, covering up the lies, it’s hard to imagine really. And to think that they have gotten away with it for so long. The truth is finally out for all to see.
Spouse is allergic to cats..so I get my cat fix by seeing the adorable cats. He even comes on and pets some if he takes some allergy pills..sometimes the pets are worth it when he forgets to take it!
