The Alberta Birds of Prey Centre is a real gem for Southern Alberta. The volunteers and staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the displays and variety of birds are first-rate. It's a great way to spend a summer morning/afternoon...kids of all ages love to visit here!
This is a great charity for getting wildlife (top predators help regulate and stabilize ecosystems, right?). You can see various raptors and owls up close, without bars or enclosures in some cases. We were lucky enough to get to have a little burrowing owl sit on a glove that they let us wear - super cool! Their new interpretive centre is really good. Nice exhibits with some concise informational sign boards.
Visiting the Birds of Prey centre was so amazing! Got to see and learn about so many great birds, held a burrowing owl, fed some hungry ducks out of our hands, saw a flight demonstration and saw a bald eagle being happily showered!
Great and knowledgeable staff. Amazing time holding the birds and learning about them. Highly recommend. Feed the ducks too while you're there.
Just an amazing place!!!!
Was a joy to visit. Owls, falcons, eagles beautiful creatures. They even have a eagle flight. Beautiful birds in flight.
A nice easy day for everyone. It's not big or full of lots of birds, but they are helping so many birds rehabilitate. Getting that close to an owl, a golden eagle and a bald eagle was thrilling. Stroller and wheelchair friendly!
Such a wonderful experience! All the staff are very helpful, friendly and knowledgable about the beautiful birds!
Exceptional in every way!! Thank you!
What a wonderful place to visit. My family had a great day here!
This place is exceptional!! Very good care and effort goes into these fine birds. I'll happily return here!
Had an amazing experience watching an eagle fly and holding some beautiful owls! The staff are super friendly and informative and made my daughter's experience very memorable for her! We will be going back on a regular basis! Learned so many interesting facts about Birds of Prey!
Loved it. Our whole family had a wonderful time. The staff was fantastic. Answering any questions. They had different birds out at different times of the day. Great to have an up close look. Feeding the ducks was also great ????. We will definitely be going again.
Great for photographing birds in a very natural setting. The volunteers are very knowledgeable. All admission proceeds go towards running the birds of prey sanctuary.
Make sure you ask to get one of the owls to perch on your arm! Amazing ! Staff here is so wonderful.
Very pretty take care of the birds wonderfully and the canadian geese are friendly
Great staff, good facilities and majestic birds!
This place is wonderful. What good job they do for educating the public and rescuing birds.
Beautiful seasonal location. The people here do hard work. Must see.
I totally enjoyed my visit. I can't wait to take my grandsons there!!
Such a neat stop on the way to Lethbridge. Get up close to owls, eagles and Falcons. The flight demonstration is very cool.
Friendly staffers who were happy to answer questions, had a great time and even had a chance to hold a great horned owl! Amazing time, definitely going back for another visit!
Fantastic opportunity to learn about Alberta's birds and have a hands on experience. Very quiet and fun to wander through!
Fun, inexpensive place to take the family for a day out. Educational, great gift shop. So amazing to see the eagles up close! The kids even got to give a bald eagle his daily bath with a hose.
Very cool place to visit for an afternoon. Feed the ducks.
Beautiful birds. Worthy work.
Make sure to hand feed the ducks. It is hilarious when they nibble from your palm. Love the Eagles and hawks as well. And we were allowed to hold an owl. Very fun day!
This place is AMAZING beyond words. It was my 1st time going and what a beautiful relaxing place to sit and see the birds. Holding an OWL was just the best. I want to be a part of this place now as a volunteer. Thanks to all the staff who care and LOVE BIRDS.
Great place to spend the afternoon, you can hold some of the birds and there are some really good presentations witch are informative and very enjoyable, also the ducks are like no ducks I have ever seen and you should probably take the chance to go feed them.
Get up close with some baby owls!! See and learn about the different birds of prey. Gather up small fresh roadkill to take to them, those birds are hungry and need lots of meat.
No matter kids or adults will love this place. We visited in July and was able to see babies of Swanson's hawk and American Kristel. The flying demonstration is always an attraction, after that, kids have a chance to help the eagle shower. This is very educational too
Amazing place and wonderful work that they do to rehabilitate birds pf prey! They also are a breeding center for endangered Burrowing Owls, and their Eagle flight show is cool.
I think this is one of the best kept secrets in Alberta. I loved holding an owl! The eagles are amazing as well as the hawks. I wasn't prepared for how much they have their so I need to go back when I can spend more time. Plan on at least an hour. I loved the people who worked their. They are so nice, patient and knowledgeable. It was a higher admission then I expected but it's a small price to pay when you know it supports such a great facility. Great for kids.
Lots of upgrades since we were last there a few years ago - it's neat to see these beautiful creatures up close.
Great place for day trip
This was a great place to go. My kids loved being able to hold the animals and feed the ducks. The staff were so patient and kind and had a load of information about the birds. I'd go back.
Took my mother in the summer, and we were both very impressed. We stayed for a few hours, enough to go through all of the bird habitats, and witness a flying demonstration. We also got to hold a Great Horned Owl. Very cool! There is a lot of information for visitors, and it is a great experience to be able to hold a bird like that. The flying demonstration was very informative, and very interesting to see as well. I would definitely go back when it reopens for the season!
What a fantastic place.Incredible opportunity to view and intereact with birds of prey.Super friendly staff who are well informed and wonderfully focused on there role in conservation and rehabilitation.
Fantastic shows, great for kids ages adults! Knowledgeable staff rehabilitating our wildlife. Thanks everyone!
Amazing place! Had a wonderful time here.
This is a wonderful opportunity to show your kids what wild birds of prey look like up close and personal. My grandchildren were lukewarm about coming but by the time we got there it was the an exciting visit. Kids loved feeding the ducks. Enjoyed the baby owls and watching the eagles hawks and owls. It was a wonderful 2 hours. We could have stayed longer but had other commitments. We are definitely going back.
Highly recommend this place. We spent almost 3 hours here. The flying demonstrations are amazing and the staff we really friendly and knowledgeable. The kids loved holding the owl. Definitely recommend this place.
What great place to see the wonderful efforts of the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation in rehabilitating and educating everyone in the family about these beautiful Beings. Definitely a great destination.
What an interesting day out! Watched a great live show with Bald Eagles and even got to hold a couple of owls on my arm. Kids loved feeding the ducks and giving the eagles a shower after the show. Staff were friendly and happy to share their knowledge of the birds.
I love this place. The staff are friendly, and the flight shows are amazing! Don't forget to feed some ducks!
Awesome exhibits and kind, knowledgeable staff. Loved the live Flight show and owl demonstration! We had a lot of fun!
Such a great place to visit! I've been here several times and feeding the ducks never gets old. I love the bird show. Today we saw a bald eagle named Jefferson. The show is always very informative and the presenter friendly and knowledgeable.
The birds are chained to the ground with little room to move. It was sad especially when you see them trying to fly.
This is the best place to go. I just love all the birds and the staff are excellent. I highly recommend going to this facility.
I went with a school group and with family. Both visits were great. They are organized and assigned a tour guide for the school tour. Kids were able to pet an owl's tail and watched bald eagles fly for training. On our family visit, we were able to "hold" owls on a glove for photos and we watched hawks have their flight training. The place isn't big, so the visit isn't long. It is a lovely location for a walk. No need to rush through. Enjoy the scenery and see the resident birds. Don't forget to feed the ducks. You'll be swarmed.
Excellent place to spend a cool summer day. They have hawks, owls and eagles in their own aviaries. You get to see the golden eagle in all its majestic glory without having a fence or a net in front of you. They are a non profit and all their revenue comes from ticket sales, merchandise sales and duck food sales. Truly one of the hidden gems in Southern Alberta
An experience in Southern Alberta that shouldn't be missed. So many amazing birds and great staff who can answer nearly any question you or your children might have.
My husband and I have been here 3 times, and we will continue to return every year. Not only are the volunteer staff the most exceptional people, giving of their time to help aide these birds back to health and to their natural habitat, but they work so hard to answer questions, help with presentations, and just keep the centre in such good shape for visitors. What a wonderful education for young and old,, and it’s fun, interactive, and an honour to be able to be so up close to these majestic birds. I would strongly recommend everyone to see this centre, and donate when you can.
If you like birds, you will love this place. And holding the owls is great fun!
A gem in the Canadian Badlands. Colin and his team are doing an amazing job rehabilitating these birds so they can either fly free again or have a good peaceful life in the centre. We've gone twice and we'll be back again.
Alberta Birds of Prey is hands down one of my favorite places in the world. I come here every summer and will continue to. I love learning about the birds, watching the eagle shows, and the fact that this is an AMAZING organization with such an incredible mission. I also enjoy buying countless bags of food and feeding the ducks, who are forever food-seeking. It's not a trip to the Birds of Prey unless you are being harassed by ducks!
Truthfully my favourite part was feeding the ducks, it was the highlight of the whole experience. We received a free bag of food for wearing our masks. It was very informational and I learned a lot. There are lots of feathers you can pick up too ( obviously the ones outside of the birds sanctuaries )
First saw them "on the road" in Canmore. Its just incredible here and so informative. It has instilled a tremendous sense of awe and wonder of birds of prey into my children Its so wonderful that they do the work they do.
If ever you want to have a great family outing, see how Alberta takes care of their Birds of Prey, please visit !!! I was fortunate to take 5 of my grandchildren who throughly enjoyed the day♥️. Such an amazing outing, learning center and care giving place, everyone should visit. Thank you all for such a great day! See you again soon!!
Start early, follow path signs around exhibits, watch for demonstrations, staff guides will answer questions.
Have come here for years with my daughter and I love it more and more each time. Not only do they have an amazing facility, but the amount this place cares about the animals and their work shines through in everything they do!
What a beautiful place I would recommend this place to anyone that loves birds, to be able to touch an eagle or an owl.
Wow Amazing place. Good for children and adults! Highly recommended for sure we will go back there again and again!!!
Wonderful place for kids and adults. Nice to see all the birds and hold the owls. Fun to feed the ducks as well! Great presentations.
The Birds Of Prey centre is a large and fascinating place for people of all ages. The rehabilitative nature of the foundation is excellent as they care for and return these beautiful birds to nature. Admission isn't cheap but the foundation is not subsidized, and there really is a lot to do and see!
An excellent educational centre that the whole family can enjoy. The place is focused on rescue, rehabilitation and release of birds (specifically birds of prey) and educating people about the birds; their habitat, diet, etc. The foundation is 100% supported by donations and so all the entrance fees go back into running the operation and supporting the birds. They put on flight shows with the eagles and you can hold an owl too. They have aviaries and ponds to provide long term homes for the birds that can't be released. Also 2 large areas where birds are put on display and you can get a real close up view of them. Lots of interpretive displays throughout the grounds. They also do group and school tours. They have a gift shop too. I congratulate Wendy and Colin who founded the rescue facility and work so hard to keep it running, improving and growing. Well done. Go check the centre out, you won't be disappointed.
Great place to see eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons. Cool live demo of Eagle chasing her meal.
I used to go here when I was a kid and alot has changed for good so I will recommend this awesome place and also u get to feed ducks. And hold owls.
This is a fantastic facility that is also doing great conversation work. You may be a little put off by the sight of majestic birds that are chained to posts but after you read and learn about the work that is being done here your fears will be assuaged.
Very interesting and informative. Great interactivity with kids and adults alike. The work they do is very important and I'm glad that we were able to learn more about all that they do.
Lovely little preserve with some amazing interactive experiences! You can feed the ducks at the pond, hold one of the many amazing birds of prey on display, watch a demonstration of birds soaring through the scenic area, and of course learn lots about these amzing birds up close. Admission, gift shop, and all proceeds go to the great cause of caring for and rehabilitation of these great wonders of our area. Staff are kind and knowledgeable. Loved every minute of it!
It has been years since my last visit, and it was good then and the same great service and a very knowledgeable staff, to talk about the hole place thanks and we will be back next month. Thanks joan and pat from Taber.
A great conservation effort, and fantastic look at many birds you only ever see high above. My daughter loves looking at the owls, eagles and hawks. For a small price you can buy duck food for the local ducks, another child favorite.
Reasonable priced entry. Lots of birds. Knowledgable friendly staff. Lots of up close action and flying demonstrations. Nice day trip from Calgary- bring your picnic and enjoy onsite. Would be 5 stars but grounds could do with some maintenance and a trail around pond would be nice.
Came here during a rainy day. So basically had the place near to myself. It felt like Jurrassic Park just slowly leaving the doors of the souvenir shop. And it basically remained that way as I walked around and seen all the birds. The white geese were nice to be around. I got a bag of food and fed them. It was pretty nice. There is a lot of them, so don't just give most of your food to the first 3 geese/duck you see. There will be like an entire army of them once you walk a little further in. There is also the big aviary, center at the other side to see some extra stuff and a few more birds. Definitely worth seeing whenever your in this area.
What a great site, so informative. I have some news that I'd like to pass on. I live in Red Deer, just up from Kerry Wood Nature Center. The center is across the street from the river. I'm mentioning these places as this is where you'll most likely see a beautiful majestic Bald Headed Eagle. This beautiful bird has been flying around here since Tuesday March 21 st., that is the cutest day that I saw it. I don't have a picture of, I'll say him as I don't know a male from a female, but I'll keep trying.
My kids enjoyed their time in here. And we all had fun watching the birds live naturally
Loved our time there. Our kids enjoyed getting up close to the beautiful birds. The staff were friendly and informative. Looking forward to a visit there next year!
Wow, what a hidden gem!! Definitely head back another day. Lots of owls, eagles, falcons, hawks and of course feeding the ducks. Remember to buy lots of duck food… they are starved!! ????but more because it’s a fun way to help them raise money for a good cause like this. All the volunteers a super friendly and helpful. And make sure to catch the eagle flight show.
This was our second visit this season. The magic was still there. The Foundation is run by enthusiastic, well informed young people whose love for the resident birds that visitors are able to get close to and those being rehabilitated is contagious. Lincoln, one of their bald eagles was taking a break today from flying so we saw a fiesty young female flying. Bugsy, the Swanson Hawk we met as a noisy chick being cared for in reception last time, has now graduated outside and become a stunning looking hawk but still as noisy as ever. Entrance is not prohibitive and the gift shop is full of delightful souvenirs.
Took my 9 year old here and we both LOVED it. Friendly staff, got to get up close with the birds and learned lots. You do great work !
You can see Collins love for the birds, it's an amazing experience all around
It was a really great first time experience! Saw lots of cute birds and the staff was very knowledgeable. Learned a lot of neat things!
Amazing. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. A wonderful and informative visit.
Great Staff. Great Place. Lots of Fun :)
Great place for children. Feeding the ducks is a must!
Fantastic place for education and getting up close to see some amazing birds.
Interesting place to see. They have a number of different species of Owls, eagles, falcons, hawks you name it. If you want you can even hold an owl in your hand. They also have falcon/hawk shows.
Wonderful experience, definitely recommend!
Awesome Experience. Definetly a good value for your buck. Kids Enjoyed it also. Very educational.
Amazing foundation rehabilitating birds of prey, great volunteers, wonderful photo ops. 10/10 ????
What a great place and unique experience. We (especially the kids) really enjoy visiting and the hands on birds of prey experience they provide. Highly recommend a visit.
Just an amazing place to visit and you are helping to keep the operation to help more birds just by visiting. We made this a family outing for my mom sister and myself so a real blend of ages with of course me being the youngest in comparison to my sister. Back to the birds! We were able to watch and learn so much about the birds of prey at the hawk flight which is a must if you go. You proceed at your own pace which is nice so take a much time as you like or walking abilities, wear a decent walking shoe as you do have some walking to be able to enjoy all the birds. The best part, little did we know was the end when we entered the owl/ hawk amphitheater and being the last of the day were offered to hold a burrowing owl ????named Basil! This day just improved immediately let me tell you what not done with the owls. We were also able to hold Ophellia, so pretty ???? she was a barn owl and then........A great horned owl named Gary. He was a big boy no doubt and had some heft to him. But all of us enjoyed it so much, even my older sister with her arthritic arms and shoulders was able to hold that little rascal Basil! Highly highly recommend to anyone looking for a learning, engaging day with the family come here you'll love it!
Neat to see all the Birds of Prey. Great layout
A fantastic and unique facility. You get to actually hold owls! They have flight shows throughout the day and you get to see a bird of prey in action! Cannot recommend it enough!
We love going here. You get to hold some of the birds and pet them but all of the interactions are awesome.
Amazing place to go visit. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Super cool being able to hold an owl and seeing the other birds so close.
Highly recommend! This is a fantastic place is all run by volunteers. Well worth a road trip to southern AB.
Beautiful and amazing birds, very friendly and helpful staff. Definitely recommend visiting this place
Loved it! Beautiful, relaxing and informative
Awe inspiring, informational, plus you get to feed ducks. A great opportunity to get up close and personal with various birds of prey.
Come with your family. Very good place for young kids.
It's amazing to see these birds up close. The site is well laid out. The demonstrations are incredible, words can't describe seeing an eagle swooping in just over your head, you can't help but duck. And to think the volunteers not only save these animals when they are in need but whenever they can they rehabilitate them and release them back into the wild.
Small place but with a lot of birds variety but what truly shattered my heart was seeing animals that should be in the wild tied up to a post rope has enough length for the bird to reach the water bowl and thats it maybe i had a different idea of what the place should be like i was expecting to see birds getting treatment for prompt release into nature guess I was wrong
It was a amazing experience for me and my family there hacks eagles owls and other birds
This is an annual trip for our family, it is so nice to interact with all the animals. I feel proud to support such an amazing organization, they are rehabilitating injured birds and trying to save endangered bird species. It is incredible what they have done without the support of government funding.
Had a wonderful morning visiting the Birds of Prey Center!
A great experience. Great displays, and interactive experience with both the flying demonstration and the owls. Great stuff.
Fascinating up close views of Canada's birds of prey. Totally non profit so your fee to visit goes directly to helping the birds.
An awesome experience! I held an owl!@! Love owls! Loved Alberta Birds of Prey. Fun, educational and I held an owl! ????????
We've been twice and we really enjoyed our visits both times. Always neat to get up close and personal with these birds and the staff seem to be taking great care of them.
Really neat place. It is good to see birds having a dedicated space and it was neat watching the Bald eagle do a flight demo. Kids loved feeding the ducks. Wish we lived closer so we could try to volunteer.
Great place. Knowledgeable staff. Have a lots of owls, eagles and hawks. They have a duck feeding area which is soo much fun and they do flight shows with the eagles and hawks!
Very interactive. We loved how up close and personal we could get to the birds.
Rip off, don't waste your time and money! Donation, no, we paid 70$ I'll never recommend this place.
Awesome place worth every penny. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Very clean. Learned so much today
Got a "beak to cheek" photo with a golden eagle! Lots of amazing animals here and the staff/volunteers are awesome. HIGHLY recommend.
A lovely place to see all the gorgeous birds of prey in our local area. Highly recommend and the staff are very friendly and happy to inform.
Please take your kids there. Donate if you're able to and they have a nice gift shop as well. Grace is an amazing young Bald Eagle. It's amazing to watch her fly. The staff really know their stuff. Tell you friends.
It was nice, especially the part when our 2 year old granddaughter had an owl on her arm. She was so excited about that ????
Friendly staff and a great little gift shop. We always love feeding the ducks!
So much fun. The flight demonstrations were fantastic. It was great to be able to see so many amazing birds up close. Dont miss the chance to hold a Great Horned Owl.
Very interesting place. Great variety of birds. More people need to know and visit. You can hold owls. You must wear a mask to hold the owls. We saw an eagle flying demonstration. Magnificent bird.
It was so interesting to see how well they care for the birds.I enjoyed seeing these beautiful creatures up close, and learning more about them. The facility is a terrific place for all birds ,to be in a natural environment.
A great place to visit! Price is very reasonable for families, staff are friendly and knowledgeable, my kids loved the whole experience
Great place, super interactive. Get to really get up close and personal! Excellent experience for anyone.

What an amazing experience. Great for all ages. The young ones are gonna love this place. Get your picture with an Eagle too.
Great family entertainment, lots of different birds lots to learn and see. And a great gift shop. Don't forget to feed the ducks.
This was a checkpoint on the Royal Rally event this past June and honestly it was the highlight of the entire event for me. Loved being here and learning about all the birds. Especially loved being able to meet and hold Gordon, a Great Horned Owl.
It was very good, loved seeing all of the different birds. Highly recommended going.
Awesome place to take the kids! Lots of different birds to see and learn about.
Amazing activity for kids. Worth the trip from Calgary. Saw a wide variety of birds of prey. And we fed some ducks!!
Great hidden gem in Coaldale, AB. We took our kids and were surprised at how much time we spent there (3+ hours). We all learned so much about hawks, eagles and owls and we each held an owl! It was a great experience. It was also inexpensive and they have a great gift shop on your way out. They also sold bird feed so we could safely feed the ducks. We will definitely be returning!
It's a cool place to check out, loved coming here on school trips and it is just as great as a adult
Awesome environment...very knowledgeable staff!
A beautiful non profit sanctuary! Friendly and knowledgeable staff, many species of hawks, owls and a few falcons to see. The eagle flight show is amazing! With help from staff you can hold a great horned owl or Basil the sweet burrowing owl. There are bags of feed you can purchase to feed the ducks and geese! Had a wonderful day!?
Beautiful birds - the Bald Eagles are spectacular, they have some really amazing owls as well. The family really enjoyed the time there.
If you have a spare 2 hours don't miss out. The flight show was awesome and the staff was very informative. A very interesting place and fun for the kids
Best part of my visit to south Alberta. A must visit. Even my husband who is not a fan of birds enjoyed visiting there alot. I enjoyed alot from different range of activities there including keeping on hand and photo shot with owl, bald eagle flight demonstration with her funny walking, feeding ducks, unique owl with big ears, most importantly little naughty owl inside the box in the office. Everything was awesome. Thank you to everyone who is working there voluntary and all the supporters, ATB, FORTIS, etc. Hope this place always gets running and help these super cute birds.
This place is magnificent !! the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, an amazing place to take the family. Will defiantly spread the word we are coming here again!. I held a great horned owl!! Thanks to you all <3
Great time with the family. Loved seeing the eagle demonstration. We even got to hold a great horned owl!
I really enjoyed the Birds of Prey Centre! I've been twice, and each time was great. Honestly, I wasn't one for birds, but this place made me have a greater appreciation. Also, I work with kids, and when we brought them here they absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend checking this place out!
So glad we made the trip. lots of cool birds to see up close and everyone is really friendly there. We were able to hold a great horned owl which was a great experience
Absolute blast! I loved the walk around, the ducks were adorable! Getting to feed the ducks was a treat! I was happy to spend some money in the gift shop to support the foundation. The gift shop is very reasonably priced so I was able to get a few things!
Great educational experience. Well worth supporting this foundation!
I love birds but i don't see any cool ones around the wild of Lethbridge so going here was exciting. it was a good educational experience and i got to hold an owl.
What an amazing opportunity to see birds of prey. The staff are knowledgeable and kind and they look like they love there work. I had a wonderful experience there. Its a Must see adventure.
A little pricey but seeing the birds is cool. If your kids are not into birds its a waist of time.
This was such an amazing experience. Highly appreciate the work they do and conservation efforts. It was so amazing to see these birds up close and learn about them.
Tons of birds of prey staff was very knowledgeable and a very nice facility. Great way to spend half a day
It was great to see all of the birds. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately it was too windy to see the birds fly.
Great place always has been. They took in a baby dove we rescued the other day.
Well worth a visit, for young and old alike, staff were fantastic explaining all about the different birds. We went with grandchildren and they absolutely adored the owls.
When we went it was by donation for admission, so we bought some duck food and toured around. The birds were wonderful and then we fed the ducks... at first 3... then what seemed like four dozen! Would go again
Excellent place. Will be back for sure.
Even my teenagers loved going! They enjoyed being so close to owls, eagles, Hawks, ducks, geese.... Hand feeding the ducks was also fun for them, too.
The folks here are passionate about the birds in their care. Visitors become volunteers, naturalists, environmentalists or simply people who are aware of their surroundings wherever they may be. And that's good for the planet.
Amazing experiences with the animals - I was amazed at just how hands-on everything was. We even got to scratch the Burrowing Owl under his wing so he made a cute little owl purring sound! This was one of the most amazing encounters I've had with any set of exotic animals, let alone birds of prey. We are coming back and telling all of our friends to go too! Thank you so much for a life-changing experience!
we had an excellent time when we were there on July 5th and will recommend it to anyone
Great place to spend some time. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend it to anyone of any age!!!
Fair price. Beautiful birds. All 4 of my children had a blast.
