REVIEWS OF HooDoo Trail IN Kimberley

Cody Wiebe (PronouncedWiebe)

This is an easy trail, walkable for almost anyone that is able. There are a few spots that may be fairly steep for the elderly hikers, but otherwise very easy and beautiful. The views at the top are gorgeous and well worth the fun. What a fantastic way to spend an hour or two. Make sure to bring snacks and water if you need as there are no amenities on this hike as with other hikes. Enjoy this beautiful trail!

Angie Yao

Nice easy hike for beginners. I'm out of shape and it took me about 1 hour in total for the hike. 30min to go up and about 20-30 down.

A bit of an incline at first but nice path and views are worth the effort

Judy Hansen

Nice view. The climb is worth it!

Blaze Zhang

Great hiking trail with lots of good viewing points of the Columbia river! It was a little smokey when we went but the views were still breath taking. The trail is pretty easy in terms of hikability, it’s just uphill most of the time with paths of sand/dirt and stones.

Joyce Moore

Great scenery

Due to a landslide in Dec 2019 this trail is permanently closed

Keith Sukut

Ziko Rajabali

Excellent viewpoint and the small loop at the top of the hike brings you right up close & personal to the hoodoos. Keep to the trail and you won't be disappointed. The incline is manageable and the length is short so it's a good choice for kids.

Mindy Lamont

Gorgeous formations, amazing views, and nice, short hike. It’s like being on a sandy beach at the top. So cool!

I have not done completed the entire thing but the part I experienced was excellent. Great views. Well maintained. Good easy workout but downhill on the way back. Good family trail.

David Dubauskas

Unique seeing the Hoodoos from the top up close.

Mike Holemar

easy to moderate walk in the woods with views around the top no special gear needed, bells may not be a bad idea

Eric Wong

This is a great trail for families, even families with young kids. The beginning part will get your cardio working a little bit, but if something so quite nicely at the top. The views are great along the way as well as on the top. There's about a couple of inches of snow on the ground and there are no issues with slipping on the trails

Jacob Robinson

Mitchell Aitken

Super nice easy little hike. Dog friendly.

Ryan Mah

Fun and short hike off of Highway 93/95 on Westside Road. Only about 3km. Can easily do it in a pair of sneakers and the views were great despite the smoke.

Arina

Majestic views and a very pleasant, kid friendly hike.

Bryan Adams

The hike starts with a steep climb but level's out. The view is outstanding, but not today because of the smoke from Washington state fires

Awesome fun hike. Make sure to bring water

Evgeny P

Not a bad trail, 3km, about 200m gain, the down side is that you will not see hoodoos

Mark Manuel - Real Estate

Awesome easy 30 minute hike (one way) , beautiful scenery, if you are in the east Kootenays it's a must see!

Jan Janssen

Nice short trail with exceptional views over the Columbian River and Dutch Creek.

Gerry Ghostrider

Very nice place for a walk with the family. Just don't bring a stroller because the pathways are steep, rocky, and sandy. The view from the top of the trail is gorgeous! Make sure to bring enough water!

Beauty of a hike

merry daniel

Beautiful short hike. Be careful if you are taking dogs or small children. Good hike to split the day.

Will May

Fantastic views, short but interesting walk, some effort required to climb to the views but not difficult

LINDA S.

We missed the turn to parking lot even though sign on right side of the road. Well marked trail signs.

Frank Cabor

It's ok - at best - the hike is a moderate incline all the way with a few flat spots. The disappointing thing is - once you get to the top - the view of the valley is great - but you can't view the hoodoos. I would redesign this park - where there's a viewpoint of the hoodoo face. If you like hiking, you'll be marginally impressed by this trip - in my opinion.

D D

Easy hike, and great scenery around

Lyndia P

Nice, leisurely hike could be done with a sturdy stroller (but may need to be passed beside or above the gate near the parking lot). Total distance from parking lot: 2miles/3.2km 325 feet elevation gain at the beginning. Took us just about 1 hr to go up and do the loop... with a couple photo stops. Must have recently added signage as it was easy to find and keep on the trail. Check out the viewpoint (to the left) with a guardrail fence and the other viewpoints are lovely too - just use caution near the edge! Parking lot is immediately across (left turn) from the Hoodoo Trail sign on the right side of the Westside road, once you've turned off the highway.

Wes Osmond

Great place for families with young kids. Really easy trail for most people.

Jason Carter

Easy 3 1/2 km round trip, slight climb up and easy slope down. Well worth it for the expansive views of the valley.

Mick M. Sahib

Kurt Brooks

A fun short walk not far off the highway. Cool to see the sandy tops of the hoodoos, and how easily they erode. Nice view of the river. And probably of more in good weather. Was even enjoyable in the rain.

Mark St. Germain

Nice hike loved it

Zohar O

Signs on the trail would be helpful

Rico Mazza

Great hike with the family. Not too hard for the young ones - 8 and 10. Beautiful vistas and scenery the entire way ????

Harvey Peterson

Kyle Waldon

This hike is the perfect hike for the whole family. The trail is well maintained, and the view from the top is great and there's lots to explore and see at the top other than the valley. The hoodoos are fun, and there are a lot of cool trees and mosses to see. If you're looking for a challenging hike this is notnit, but if you're looking for a fun and relaxing way to spend a couple hours this hike will scratch that itch!

Ryan Faith

Easy hike, lovely views, great for young families

Derek Mackay

Small car park at base of HooDoo trail. Three informative signs.

Hard to find the trail head - NOT very well marked!! A map of the trail even in the parking lot would be helpful!

Ian Falkiewicz

Uphill trail worth the great view at the end. Recommended.

Steve Breeze

This is a good hike even for kids. Its an old road all the way up so just loose gravel, you you can use a 3 wheel stroller or a rubber tired one on this trail if you want. . And yes its a steady climb the whole way up. Once at the top it has amazing views but there are no fences or anything from the edge of the hoodoo just so you are aware.

Robbi Grover

M M

Short hike on a rocky trail will lead you up to a scenic lookout on top of the hoodoos. The sandy top will keep the kids occupied while enjoying the view. Pack a lunch and eat here too but no picnic tables or anything. Watch kids near the cliff as there are some scary drops!

Glen Somera

Quick 25 min hike up to the top of the viewpoint with the hoodoos. It's pretty much all uphill on the way up and the opposite on the way down, but it's all worth it with the reward being a beautiful view of the valley. The trail is well kept with some signage and fun facts along the way. If you do bring kids to the top, be careful of the edges and keep them close. ;)

Susan klumpenhower

Steep trail, but we'll maintained. Breathtaking views from lookout area.

Kim Hopcraft

We thoroughly enjoyed this in and out hike with a short loop in the middle. The views across the Columbia River Valley and the surrounding mountains were fantastic. It is a fairly moderate uphill grade from the parking lot as the hike is actually on the top of the HooDoos. As such, the view of the actual rock formations is limited to the very top of the structures. It's also very important to be mindful of children as there are very steep drop offs. It appears from tracks in the sand that people may have gone beyond the wooden barriers and walked in top of the HooDoos which would incredibly foolish as the rock is quite soft and crumbly.

Patrice Sheppard

Very nice short uphill walk. Beautiful scenery.

Nice easy hike. Beautiful views. Lots of interesting plaques about the HooDoo's amd it inhabitants.

So cool!!

Kasia Kuperus

Great hike for a family with small kids! Just long enough to be worthwhile (about 1.5-2 hours, with short stops for pictures) but short enough that kids can do it. Beautiful views at the top and it was neat to walk a trail through the forest on sand.

Cami Aubin

Easy trail for family

AJ L

Easy well marked trail.

Roy Pat

FYI not much a view of the Hoodoos themselves from the viewpoint, just overlooking the valley. It’s a complete ice rink right the entire way up, right now in Jan 2021. I would bring spikes, otherwise you’re going to have a few hard falls (like I did)!

Ariel D

Recently my family and I visited the hoodoos for the first time. Firstly, better signage showing where to turn for the parking lot is needed. The hike itself was nice, it would have been helpful to know at the parking lot how long the hike to the hoodoos would take. The trail is definitely well maintained, maybe a bit steep at times for toddlers. After the hike was finished and we were leaving the parking lot, again better signage is definitely needed as to where the steep corners of the ditch are. I found it difficult to judge and ended up driving into the corner of the ditch which caused extensive front end damage to our vehicle. At least 3/4 of our under carriage shield came off. We were fortunate the entire casing didn’t come off. My husband had to spend 1 hour minimum to tape it back up so that we could make it back home as we are from out of town. The only sign there is to stop for pedestrians. Not the best way to end a family outing. Please consider placing more signage up for vehicles coming and going into the parking lot.
