I hiked the Valley of Five Lakes Trail in the beginning of August 2019. This is a really enjoyable and scenic hike with beautiful views along the way. It is a short 5 km loop which led around five beautiful lakes and the mountains as a backdrop.
The trail starts off by passing through the peaceful forest before crossing a boardwalk through an open meadow area. The trail continued up a hill and back into the forest. There were lots of ups and downs along the trail, with some steeper but short inclines, which added a nice manageable challenge.
The path led along a ridge which had beautiful views of the turquoise-coloured lakes. The blue/green colour of the water looked so vibrant and crystal clear when the sun was shining! There were gorgeous reflections of the clouds and mountains on the water. It was very beautiful and the mountains in the background made a great backdrop for photos. The trail led past five unique and pretty lakes and then looped back around into the forest and to the trailhead. The second, third, fourth and fifth lakes were the most impressive, but there weren’t great views of the first lake and it didn’t have the same amazing colour as the others.
This is a busy hike, popular with families, and it can get quite crowded. I hiked it during an afternoon and there were lots of people, but it was still enjoyable and there were sections where I had some solitude as well. If you want a more peaceful atmosphere, go there earlier in the morning. Bring bug spray as there were mosquitoes in the forested areas. This isn’t the most stunning hike in Jasper, but definitely worth spending a couple of hours here if you have the time.
