In my time I have seen Many to alot of Canyons on multiple continents, however I have to say they Maligne Canyon is unique as it is extremely narrow and deep. You are greeted with many different types of water flow and rock formations as you progress down the canyon Criss crossing it over strategicly placed bridges. I will be happy to return for another exhilarating visit next time I'm in the park.
If you love a hearty hike with a view, you should visit the place. The hike is under a thick canopy of trees with atmosphere filled with rushing sound of water flowing through the Malign Canyon on the side. The canyon ranges from very deep to shallow at places and the hike provides plenty of viewpoints scattered across the course. More adventurous can take the not so lengthy but pretty steep hill hike on the way back from bridge 5
Beautiful down in the canyon! There is a few waterfalls and fit for all ages! Me and my partner didnt have spikes but it would Definitely help to have!
By chance I could not get up to Maligne lake due to snowfall and discovered on way back down the Canyon lookout. Excellent trails short and long to spend the morning away.
Very much enjoyed the hike from the 5th Bridge to the first and back. The hills while a little challenging were not too difficult and the trails are well marked.
very very picturesque! Recommended to get there early as it gets super busy as the day goes on.
This is another place with an amazing natural beauty. The most important thing in the trail to the bridges was the hand-rail to hold on. This was missing in most of the other trails where we went. We went to the first, second and a little bit of the third bridge and it was beautiful. Even though the water was frozen we had a good time overall. Me and wife enjoyed it this time and we will definitely come back in the Summer. I recommend people to were spikes and shoe chains during winter.
Maligne canyon is a great for a family hike. From the parking lot it's all downhill so on the way back it's all uphill which some would find difficult I'm sure. There a lot of different viewpoints to stop and see and the waterfall down the canyon is beautiful. It can be busy so during a pandemic it could be hard to socially distance going down the trails. It's great though so no complaints.
A great place to go on a family friendly walk. The Canyon is much deeper than expected and depending on the amount of cold there has been you can walk up into the Canyon. Beginning of January the water was still running so you can only walk into the Canyon at the shallower part. There is a lodge near the start of the short trail with washrooms as well.
I have been to Maligne Canyon in the summer time and in the winter time. Seeing both seasons really ties the experience together. In the summer time you look at these raging waterfalls from high above but in the winter you get to walk down where those waterfalls are now frozen. The only issue, like any treck, is the people. There's often too many people or there's just disrespectful people. The views are amazing and there are plenty of great spots for pictures, you might have to wait for your turn.
The sight of the deep canyons was too scary for me, aggravated fear by the flowing waters. But the place was awesome.
This is a must stop. Parking was a little hard to get when we went around 1 pm on a Saturday but circled a few times and got a spot. The hike down to the different bridges was nice and the stops were amazing views. Getting back up was more challenging but lots of places to stop on the way up. The flowing water was so cool to listen to as well. Great stop along the way to Spirit Island boat cruise.
Beautiful, easy trail with a walkway over the canyon to view it. Amazing view of the canyon .We had this stop included in a tour we had taken and enjoyed lunch in the urban kitchen as well. The stones along the path showed fossilized molluscs (?) And other creatures. We were able to learn about the trees in the area as well. There are various trails in the area and overlooking mountains as well. Beautiful lunch stop!
If you want walk around a canyon of 55 meters deep with water fleeing inside. Its a great experience. Multiple trails to do also.
Nice, easy hike, saw parents with kids and dogs hiking. The site has 6 main bridges to visit, the 5th and 6th are a little far from the 1st, perfectly walkable though. There's options to start the hike from the 5th, 6th and 2nd bridges (each from different parking lots, all with toilettes and a restaurant at the 2nd bridge parking lot)
This is one of the best places to visit all year around. The canyon is easy to reach, hike is easy, but in winter time can be slippery. On the other hand, winter hike allows you to walk on the bottom of the canyon
I loved the canyon! Went there in winters.
We found a small trail to hike up and was surprised with such an amazing view! I love visiting Jasper and this spot is a must to go hiking. Take in the scenery with medium level hiking trails and restaurant if you follow the signs.
Awesome!! The hike along the canyon was intriguing - the canyon is so deep! Loved the waterfalls.
This place is so beautiful. For this trip we started at the Fifth Bridge and went up. I had never done this route before. It was amazing. There are spots you can get up close and personal with the water. It is breath taking to see. If you haven't gone, you really should. Put it on your list.
Beautiful canyon with kilometers worth of easy hikes and excellent views!
Beautiful place to visit. Nice hike. Remember to keep water with you while going to full length hike
It is an amazing place. Missed this many times in our trips to Jasper..but should be in the must do list for Jasper
Maligne Canyon is out of this world beautiful and natural at its best. One of the best Canyon and falls I have seen so far. There is a tail that is along side the water and number is falls. The trail is not wheelchair accessible. I would highly recommend visiting the Canyon if your in in Jasper as it’s only 10mims drive form Jasper town.
This place is just Wow! Looking at how the walls and spaces are carved up with water is just incredible. Bit of a walk but definitely worth it. Kids friendly hike and a lot of traffic though. Coming back is of course an uphill task ????
Nice short trail contains several waterfall and canyon views along with maligne river
Beautiful little hike ! Nice and easy walk or you can go further if you want! super worth checking out.
Awesome place!!! Really cool and fun to walk, just be careful some spot are slippery. You can also go off the side for a great view of the mountains and other trails.
A wonderful hiking spot that can accommodate both easy and moderate hiking plans. The canyon and fast flowing water are amazing and can be easily seen with a quick stop, or opt to hike the full loop over an hour. Definitely something to see when in Jasper and not to hard to add to any trip schedule.
Beautiful canyon views the hike is great for people who have little to no hiking experience. Good for kids. Easily hit 5 bridges with any difficulty
Its a great hike from Bridge 2-6. Beautiful views and every step. Missed the first bridge, make sure you dont miss it. Its a 3 -3.5 hours trekk , make sure you wear proper shoes and clothes , carry some water.
The trail was almost ghosted...it was awesome doing the ice walk all by myself with no other mankind around in the early morning after sunrise...would definitely recommend for people who doesn't like crowder trails like me...
I only got down to bridge 3 before my group decided to turn back. Incredible place to visit.
So beautiful! Did the loop. Followed the trail to 6th Bridge then took the trail 7H back to the beginning parking lot. Really nice trail, beautiful views, steep beginning of 7H trail but worth it.
Beautiful hike starting at the top of the canyon with breathtaking views near the bottom
Amazing experience. Beware the last and sixth bridge. Almost 2 kilometres from bridge 5. And alot of muddy wetness too. Went at 10 am on a Tues. and almost no one there yet. Bring water, snacks, and off. Steady game. Great time with my family of four.
Gorgeous and easy trail. Heavily traffic and a must see if you’re in Jasper.
Beautiful scenery. It would be a bit scary if you were afraid of heights. Path is in good shape and was not muddy. Was low traffic when we went so was able to walk comfortably with the dog without a lot of people crowding.
Amazing narrow canyon gouged out by the Athabasca river over the millennia. Useful descriptive narratives line the trail. Most of the trail from the 5th bridge is not overly challenging.
Beautiful hike. Make sure to save some energy for the the way up. Remember 1/2 of mountain climbing is up hill.
This was a beautiful hike! It was great how the hike it broken up in sections based on the type of hiker you are, would definitely go again
Awesome to do a walk with the family... not recommended to take stroller, it will be easy if you take a baby carrier, amazing natural place, very good to spend couple of hours or just a short time on the small routes. We did the small and medium route we have 2 little kids and they did the whole way with not problem.
We visited on late August 2021. I am sure the gorge would be much more memorizing in the spring of the year during higher water levels. We loved it. A beautiful, easy walk. Very scenic.
Nice trek with amazing waterfall views. Maybe skip the 6th Bridge if you are not looking for a long hike.
It's a beautiful water canyon. Nobody expects such a breathtaking view there at the first place. The first bridge is the main spot of attraction. The water level is getting lower than the last month (we went in September 2021).
We love it here, just amazing what water and time can do. Been here at least 10 times and still loving it. Rick Stasiuk, Wetaskiwin Alberta Canada T9A 3R2
Absolutely gorgeous views of a spectacular mountain canyon. My favorite thing about this hike is that you can customize the length to your ability level. There are multiple loops and turnaround points that allow a natural end to the trail. Be careful after it rains as it can get slick and muddy. Due to the nature of the path, often puddles are unavailable.
Must visit on your trip to Jasper. The scenery and terrain keeps changing , constantly getting better and surprising you as you make your way through the trail. Loved every bit of it !
Gorgeous hiking trails along canyon paths. I had a great time there. It's a beautiful attraction, and this was much more impressive than we expected, I might be back again if I visit Jasper!
Beautiful, powerful, and loud. Amazing falls and so close to Jasper! I encourage you to come and check these falls out
Super cool place to walk/hike at. It was raining a little bit on the day we came down here, but still so beautiful. We checked out the first three of the six bridges and it took about an hour (including lots of picture taking). Hike along all six bridges for a longer adventure (2-3 hours).
It's amazing what a few hundred years of water flow can do. If you have little ones, this is the perfect short hike for them. You can see bridges 1 and 2 in a short 20 minute hike that takes you around and back to the parking lot. For more adventurous hikers, you can visit all 6 bridges. Maligne Canyon is a short drive from Jasper and definitely a recommended destination for all. There is also a tea house by the parking lot for anyone needing a break.
Great place not far from Jasper town, visited all bridges. Awesome
Very beautiful trail. Easy to access. Good for all level. The trail is getting very muddy and slippery if it rains.
Amazing views and experience overall! Highly recommend checking this place out if you're staying in Jasper. We went during the winter and it was super cool to walk around in the canyon.
Great place for a hike. I'd suggest to take a trail along the river - it has a lot of scenic views of the canyon.
It was crazy busy but well worth it! This time we only went as far as 2nd bridge because it is pretty steep and hard on the knees. I love the colours of the rock and the different textures, great for Photography.
Very exciting place to visit. The trail has a medium difficulty. I'm a bit heavier so had to stop 3 4 times on return lol. Liking forward to visit the canyon in summers too.
I’m always in awe of Gods incredible creation! The views are stunning! And a great little walk, doable for most with various options to go shorter or longer. Watch your steps on the stairs in winter; would do one good to wear footwear with good grip when there’s ice and snow.
A peaceful hike with lots of nature and water falls, rapids along the way. Do recommend this hike to all. Parking is limited there. Go there early to spend the day there and be one with the nature.
Beautiful view and scenery!! The paved part of the trail was great. The unpaved loop, 7h was slightly more difficult.
Gorgeous blue and clear water, which you get close and touch just behind the restaurant there. You can skip the first few bridges to close to the 6th where the water way gets wider and pettier if you don’t have stamina in my opinion.
We were there on Dec. 28. This is a great place to explore in the winter when you can walk up the center/bottom of the canyon. Almost like being in a cave in a few places. You will need spikes if you plan to go in the center of the canyon, probably a good idea even on top as there are some slippery places. Is also a great place to visit in the summer.
I kept playing Lord of the Rings ost in my mind. It was just pure beauty of the nature. Must visit!
Loved this place. The trails are well maintained. Pure magnificence. Wear the proper footwear and be prepared to be mesmerized
We were pleasantly surprised about how dramatic the canyon is. The views from the first few bridges are terrific. The walk is slightly steep on the way back but we’ll worth it.
Very well structured hiking location. The creation of the bridges provided safe sightseeing and informative posters. It is easy to get to and accessible to all levels of physical capability.
Absolutely amazing! Must see and walk the trail! Stunning views!! Loved it!
Spectacular views and photos can be taken at many different spots, each spot being different and beautiful. This canyon was quite unique as the views were really accessible and the pathways were well laid out. My children even loved this one.
Great hike. Hiked all the way from the 1st bridge to the 6th bridge. The 6th bridge was 1.8km one way from the 5th, it was pretty quiet. It seemed like more people drove to it. Really enjoyed it all.
Spectacular views! We started at the restaurant parking lot and the whole loop to bridge no. 5 and back took us about two hours which was around 4.8 km. From bridge no. 5 to bridge no. 6 was another 1.7 km one way which we didn't take. There's lots of stairs and ups and downs through the trail so maybe not the best if you have little ones. It's amazing how water could carve out through the rocks and make this magnificent canyon. A must see if you visit Jasper.
Arrived in the afternoon and it wasn't very crowded. Did up to the fourth bridge and learned a lot about the formation of the canyon. The indication wasn't super clear but the first bridge starts off next to the restaurant.
Beautiful view and scenery. It's a good place to visit and has a cool trail too.
The canyon is impressive. Walkway is wet and can be slippy in areas - especially as it is uneven in parts. Beautiful to see the canyon. The teahouse/restaurant is excellent. We had a delicious breakfast.
Beautiful hike. Remember to bring proper footwear, either spikes for your shoes or hiking poles because it is very slippery and steep in many places along the path especially in winter. There are paths along both side of the canyon that both offer great views.
You can easily do bridge 1 to 4 within an hour with time for pictures. The hike was easy as well. Really enjoyed our time here. Glad we didnt skip it.
Unreal!! We went all the way to bridge 5 then took the 7H trail back up the face of the mountain. It was difficult but our kids killed it!!!!!
Fantastic and easy hike for all family, go in the early morning, cause then it became busy and you wont enjoy the quiet time and the trail will be crowded
Very nice experience. The return path is through woods and very steep. Better come back same way instead of loop
Beautiful! Maligne Canyon was amazing! Spirit Island is a spiritual moment upon arrival. What a history it is has for Canada's Indigenous peoples, one to be respected. Absolutely beautiful and a great history lesson in regards to the sacred land and spiritual meaning for them dated back 8000 years.
