My boyfriend and I came in a little after it opened to come pick up a tag for our new puppy. The girl at the counter (I believe her name was Sarah, she has red red & gauged ears) was nothing but wonderful. You could tell that she had issues speaking English however, even though I spoke to her in French she still spoke English with us. Unfortunately, this isn’t something you see on a regular in the area. It was very much appreciated as my boyfriend doesn’t know much French so it really helped him understand what was happening. Sarah was very polite, patient and was just as excited for us to pick up our puppy. Such wonderful service.

I've visited the SPCA in Gatineau on several occasions to visit dogs for adoption. The staff would provide all the details possible and even allowed me to walk the dogs. They were also helpful when my roommate brought home a stray kitten we couldn't keep. It has always been clean and they do their best to take care of the animals. They also do their part finding foster homes for animals outside the shelter when possible which is great. While I lived in Gatineau I would also have to to get my annual licence for my dogs at the SPCA which is what it is, if there was a line it was short, and way faster than a trip to the bank. If you are looking to adopt they have always had the lowest fees in the Ottawa region which means you can spend a little more on the necessities of ownership. Now what most people don't know is that there is a DOG PARK behind the building, and it is open to the public.

I visited the shelter this June and was pleased and relieved at what I saw there. I met a young man, an enthusiastic volunteer, who knows each of the dogs well because he has spent time with all of them. He was able to discuss their strengths and their needs in BOTH languages. Although it was busy, when I asked for a private time with the dog I was considering it was quickly arranged that I could borrow someone's office, which was very nice of them as there is not much office space there. They obviously do not have the funds that built the handsome Ottawa Humane Society, but in the hour and a half I was there dogs were being walked and water freshened by many staff/volunteers. First language is of course French because it is in Quebec.

AYLMER QUEBEC SPCA is of little help when I asked them to help a starving guinea pig who is lose in my local park. The lady said, "you can rent a cage for 10$ plus 50$ deposit, we do not waste our time trying to catch them all day, we have more important things to do." I asked if it's because it's not a dog or cat and she said "there is only 1 guy who works at getting aggressive dogs and he doesn't have time for that." (for a guinea pig). I offered to volunteer my time and she said "no". Get a cage. I explained it's in a public park it would probably be stolen, she said "not my problem". (WOW...wth are our taxes paying for? And what heartless pigs no pun intended) who couldn't be bothered to help a small creature. It is very thin - starving - eating maple leaves. ) And, I asked what are the chances that they would work with it if he was not domesticated? Would they euthanize him after everything? She said "they work case by case". I asked do these animals have a good track record of being rehabilitated? She said, "I have no idea, but it's just a guinea pig and I have other calls". I realized she just couldn't be bothered and I wonder what sort of people get hired for the SPCA. Boo on CITY OF GATINEAU!

Most staff are really friendly and they take good care of the animals. I adopted a pair of 7month old kittens from here, overall in good health, unfortunately one of the passed from a disease that mutated and became fatal(random chance, not anyone's fault), they were very professional while still empathetic and supportive through the whole process and they refunded me for the adoption and did a free exam on the remaining kitten(who is doing very well). A great experience although very sad circumstances.

I had been wanting a dog for years, and always wanted to adopt-not-shop, but because I didn't own my home, and lived in a townhouse, I had a hard time getting local shelters to adopt to me. So off to the SPCA I went, and met with a wonderful little puppy. My heart melt. My husband and I adopted her right there, and took her home. She changed our lives for the better, and I could not imagine a day without her. We provide her with the best care, and she showers us with unbiased love and devotion. We get to the back and there is one dog only and ITS ALREADY BEING ADOPTED Why would you waste my time to go to the back and view a dog already adopted. Very bad experience, we found a baby cat maybe about 3 months old we brought him there since they say you can bring animals that are hurt, lost or stray. The cat had an eye infection but was super joyful and played a lot for the two days he was with us which we told the lady, she called the vet and the vet looked at the cat checked his eye said ah ya its infected took him to the back right away. I asked the girl at the front desk if we'd see if he goes up for adoption she told us oh no sorry he's not gonna go up for adoption we'll have to euthanize it. We were devasted and regret very much taking that little baby cat there.

Good team, and pleasant. However, we adopted Alee from them at 3 mos. old. We had her about 10 days and had to rush her in to our vet... PARVO!!!!! About 1-3 mos. after, they had a major fire; how many animals ended up with PARVO before dying in that fire??? I will definitely NOT be recommending them for "anything" because of the PARVO. So, as soon as we brought the dog back with us, we made two appointments: one at the vet, who did all the necessary care and vaccines and the second was his toilet. Overall, we were under a lot of pressure to adopt the dog quickly, they didn't even make sure if we were a good match or not. All they cared about was cashing in the money and getting rid of the animal. Fortunately, we had a very good dog and he too felt protected and whispered by us. My advice to management: you do charity work with vulnerable animals and not a profit business, this is your ultimate mission. So do it with excellence please! Bizarre! La personne qui a fait la démarche, nous pressait pour vite adopter et acheter le maxi de gadgets, dont malheureusement on ne se servait même pas! Autre chose, notre chien adopté plus que le fait d’être sous traitement pour la diarrhée, le pauvre avait les pattes irrités qui saignaient, dont on l’a remarqué chez le Vétérinaire. On ne lui a pas coupé ni ses ongles, ni au moins lui avoir rasé les cheveux au niveau des pates et lorsqu’on a offert de payer nous même le service, la toiletteuse n’était pas disponible. Donc, dés qu’on ramené le chien avec nous, on a fait deux rdv: un chez la vétérinaire, qui a fait tous les soins nécessaires ainsi les vaccins et le second était sa toilette. Overall, on nous a mis beaucoup de pression pour adopter vite le chien, ils ne se dont même assurés si on était un bon match ou pas. Tout ce qui leurs concernaient s’était d’encaisser l’argent et se débarrasser de l’animal. Heureusement, on a eu un très bon chien et lui aussi se sentait protégé et chuchotait par nous. Mon conseil au mangement: vous faites du travail de charité auprès d’animaux vulnérables et non pas un business de profit, c’est cela votre ultime mission. Alors faites la avec excellence svp!

The staff are 5 stars, the facilities are very clean and well kept. The reason why for only 3 stars was that we had found a dog we really liked but unfortunately we felt we were pushed when finalizing our decision. If you want a dog, you need to get him today cause tomorrow it might be gone. There is no possibility of holding a dog so that you can get ready at home in order to properly receive the animal. The Ottawa humane society have a adoption pending option. We saw the dog at 2pm and we took him home at 5. We felt that spending only 1 hour or so with the dog was not sufficient. Unfortunately for us, we brought him back the next morning because he kept wanting to chase our cats. But lucky for him, he was adopted a few days later. An introduction option to your residence (with a credit card) and other pets should be considered when making such a big decision.

I had an appointment with Isabelle, who got to know my dogs right away. She saw a little wound near my female tail, and probably saw my male didn't like people touching his ribs. My female hates when we touch her paws, but Isabelle had no problem with her. the dog even looked happy when they came back. My male has separation anxiety and would not follow Isabelle, so she croutched to pick him up. I didn't even have to explain that there is only one way to pick him up (not the usual put one arm behind his legs), because she picked him up right. She really knows dogs, have an eye for them and their preferences, and I will surely go back to these grooming services.

6 months ago I adopted my wonderful lil man, Sherlock from the SPCA in Gatineau. I see alot of bad comments but they were nothing but helpful and nice to me and made the adoption process easy and fast. I can't thank them enough. Sherlock brought alot into our lives and were grateful to have him with us and that's because of the SPCA. I had gone to the OHS but did not get the service I received here. We came to adopt two elderly dogs. The guy who helped us fill out the forms was great but the rest of the experience was terrible. The cashiers were slow and seriously didn't seem to care. It took them fifteen minutes to figure out how to print our receipt. We were there for over two hours, most of which was spent waiting for the cashiers to do basic tasks. You'd think an animal shelter would want to help make a special day pleasant, not a complete pain.
