Great add-on to a Butchart Gardens trip. Plenty of wonderful butterflies, birds and insects very well displayed.
I personally enjoyed Butterfly gardens and would have stayed longer if i had realised how warm it was in the venue. Great photo opportunities for young and old. Everyone seemed to love the experience. Something special about a tropical butterfly choosing you as a landing pad.
A but creepy at first but if you see a low flyer just duck. Very pretty.
Have taken family to this place every time I bring them to Victoria. It is better each time with some additional animals along with the butterflies. Would say you need to let your camera equipment adjust to the temperature and humidity for a awhile so you can defog your lens.
Absolutely my favorite place. My whole family loves it. Wonderful for all ages!
What an awesome place!! Definitely worth the $16 to get in. Loved the Insectarium and the birds inside. The little green parrot made friends with me and perched on my shoulder for a while! Would recommend and go again.
Spectacularly fun. A little green parrot really liked us.
Came here with a friend to do a photography project and I was mindblown by the beauty of the animals inside. The site is very warm inside, so it was nice to go there in the winter time! Therefore, dress accordingly, or be ready to take some layers off! Its incredible to see the butterflies beating their wings, and the flamingos were something I didn't expect. There is also a really friendly green parrot that landed on our arms a couple of times! Overall, I really loved coming here, and despite being far away from Downtown, it was well worth the trip!
Truly wonderful experience. Great for adults and children.
Great place to take young children to explore and experience not only butterflies, but other insects, reptiles birds and plant life. Tropical atmosphere, so it is warm. Look for a Groupon and make it worth while.
Seeing butterfly eggs on a leaf was such a fun experience.
Lots to take in an look at! Would go in the morning when it's not as busy.
A lovely, warm escape with many animal friends.
Could've spent an hour just watching the leaf cutter ants at work at the entrance. Loved the butterflies and the birds. Small, but still well worth a visit. Also ideal on a rainy day!
Very cool place, loved the new insectarium as well.
The first time I came to butterfly gardens was for a field trip in elementary school. I loved it then. Since then I have visited two or three more times and loved it as well. The new bug zoo is great for kids and the parrot is amazing as well. If you get uncomfortable in warmer than usual temperatures though, this place may not be for yoh
The kids enjoyed watching the butterflies and the parrots
So cute and enjoyable
Wow. Really worth it. We decided to go here after turning around at the gates of the very expensive Butchart Gardens. When you come in the entrance there is a very neat display of worker ants taking pieces of leaves and carrying them through a maze of branches to their transparent nest. Also in the entrance area, in aquariums, are really amazing insects that I had never seen before. Past those aquariums you enter the large butterfly garden. A detailed pamphlet guides you through the garden and helps you identify the many type of butterflies you will encounter. Some butterflies might land on you, so better not be scared of them. When I was there, in a few different areas, cocoons ready to hatch where on display and I witnessed many "rebirths". There are a few flamingos and turtles, and a small display of exotic and colorful frogs. A gift area with related items is also in the entrance area. This was a memorable visit.
Awesome
Very humid as you would expect. Lots of variation of butterflies. Some other neat animals and insects as well!
Great insect collection beyond the obvious butterflies. They also have a number of birds and reptiles in the exhibit. It's a little pricey for the length of the exhibit as a family of 5 cost about $55 dollars but they do offer an upgrade to an annual pass for a small fee. If you're going to go more than once, definitely buy the annual pass.
Great for an hour stop with lots of surprise bonus animals, like flamingos and iguanas, to add to the thousands of butterflies. Butterflies landing on us all the time, too. The Insectarium (a room with several glass terrarium displaying bizarre bugs) is a nice addition.
The Butterfly Gardens are a must-see while in Victoria. With butterflies gently flying around, it's an experience you won't soon forget. Make sure to Google discounts as they sometimes offer 20% off admission.
Great to see the variety of birds and butterflies that they have to offer but the price is a little steep for what you get. You can walk through the whole thing in an hour so $17 per adult is a tough sell.
A super fun exotic place that is very educational and fun.
Amazing experience! We brought the family. It is beautiful! We all loved to see the different butterflies flying around, plus the exotic birds. The poison dart frogs were extra cool for the kids too!
BEST place in Victoria for locals or visitors! Like a dense little pocket of magic! It has a huge variety of butterflies, adorable animals, and beautiful tropical plants.
Flamingos, parrots, turtles, butterflies, an iguana, and also with a mini bug zoo before entering the butterfly garden itself. We had a great time here. There's a green parrot that will dance when someone plays music on their phone, loads of butterflies that really seem to like the colour red. They kept landing on my red hair and my fiance's red shirt.
A great little attraction that is not too expensive. Check Groupon before you go for discounted adult and family admissions. I find a visit during the cool and wet rainy winter is a great way to lift your spirits and enjoy the warm tropical atmosphere inside, all without a plane ticket somewhere warm. There is always lots to see, not just butterflies: flamingoes, parrots, macaws, turtles, koi, and many different species of tropical plants. The parrots are friendly and will even hop off their perch to check you out. A nice reasonably priced gift shop and an insects exhibit in the lobby.
Butterfly Gardens is a wonderful place. Small but cute! A lot of fun with taking pictures of butterflies, flamingos, turtles, parrots, beautiful plants etc.
Just wonderful! You interact with insects, birds. It is super well maintained. A wonderful ride to go with children
Interesting place with a unique collection of butterflies, insects and a few birds. It takes about 2hrs or less. It is on the island of Victoria close to the Butchart gardens. It is better to see the two places on different days. It is a small place and has a nice forest setting. In addition to butterflies, there are parrots, flamingos, turtles etc. Many opportunities to take pictures. There's a separate hall with a collection of interesting insects with lots of details. It can be educational for those into insects and for students.
So many cool things to see here. Obviously lots of butterflies, but also flamingos, parrots, ant colonies, stick bugs, tonnes to explore. Must see!
Very nice place, great for kids to learn the tropical plants and animals. Butterfly garden is kindly misleading, they should be called tropical garden/zoo.
Great family outing destination. Very kid friendly.
Love it beautiful I would go on a first date there again ????
This place is amazing we go once a year and their is always improvements and new things to see! Litte E is the sweetest little bird. So friendly! My son loved the cutter and display and all the new bugs..
Take your time going through and there is plenty to see. We loved the insectarium in the lobby.. there were terrariums with leaf cutter ants, stick bugs, tarantulas, and other insects. Inside the atrium is a tropical atmosphere. We saw a huge iguana lounging in branches. There were pink flamingoes wading in between the planted areas. Butterflies flitted around. Bright colored lizards crawled in the plantings. There were tortoises crawling and pond turtles sunning on a log. There was a tank in the atrium with poison dart frogs. There were huge koi swimming on the ponds. A beautiful as well as educational place.
Very nice. Alot of butterflies, some turtles, parrots, some cool poisonous frogs and even 2 flamingos.
Was a perfect little excursion on a rainy day in Victoria. Note...I wouldn't recommend sitting on the benches within the butterfly area as there were lots of cockroaches crawling around. Thinking they were escapees from the bug area.
Kids love this place
It was pretty nice and well cared for, just never expected it will be small. You'll be done in 30 mins or shorter than that.
Great for kids and all ages. Spent hours just wandering the tropical room taking pictures of the exotic birds and hundreds of butterflies.
If you’re heading to Butchart you can make a stopover here for a visit. Some really cool bug displays, leaf cutter ants, stick bugs etc before you walk inside the butterfly portion- and there’s definitely more than just butterflies inside! Really enjoyed it right after a great morning and afternoon tea at Butchart.
We found a groupon deal that allows 5 ppl to enter at $40. This was a very attractive price so we decided to check it out. It was interesting and lots to see, the entire place wasn't big and we finished the tour in 30 minutes. They did a fantastic job to make it safe for everyone during the pandamic. I'm not sure if it would be worth the regular admission price listed. A great place to visit for the special rate!
Amazing place! I came to Victoria for visiting famous Butchart gardens, but firstly I came here and for me it's even better! It was so gorgeous walking through tropical environment. Reasonable entrance fee and a lot of fun. P.s. parrot there is so freandly, you can take a nice picture with????
An amazing place lots of butterflies parrots turtles ants and more
The insects are well organized with detail explanation.
A must see for tourists visiting Victoria. A tropical paradise.
Very cool place. In addition to the butterflies, they also have a small insect museum with stick bugs, beatles and leaf cutter ants. Inside the butterfly area they also have lizards, turtles, flamingos and tropical birds. The area is a little small but don't let that disappoint you. Every time I re-walked through the gardens I discovered something new, either a butterfly or one of the animals I mentioned above.
This place was just the right amount of fun. Big enough to take you into another world but not so big you tire of it. So many butterflies, even Blue morpho's. Flamingos, frogs, tortoises and parrots too. Fun for all ages. Almost no supervision so occasionally kids rip off leaves and run passed you but generally relaxing and fun for everyone age 2-92.
Great place to visit. Very family-friendly. Enjoyed our trip there. Very tropical. Great educational experience for kids
Incredible to spend time in this tropical place in the surroundings of Victoria. Lots of nice birds and bugs to see. Perfect for homeschooling parents.
Great place to take your family.
Absolutely great experience. Reminds me of home (Southeast Asia). If you are planning to visit the place look for deals online, don't pay the full price for the entrance. The area is very clean and well maintained. The staff are great and knowledgeable.
It was a shame we were there at night. I'm sure it looks wonderful during the day time.
Such a fun experience!
I appreciate the efforts to make an environment for butterflies from all over the world. As a museum it had little educational value. The brochure has about 12 spots highlighted, but I couldn't find but maybe 4 of the numbers displayed in the museum to see what the brochure was talking about. I wouldn't go again.
Felt like walking into a warm jungle.
Amazing place with close-up wildlife experiences.
Amazing, kind of bizarre. So many fake-looking gigantic blue butterflies, plus a flamingo, macaws, poison dart frogs, and a shrieking golden duck...my primal brain kept telling me it was wrong for all of these to be in one place. But the kids were absolutely loving it. Favourite moment: I spotted a small parrot in a tree and stopped and said "Hi!" It looked at me and said "Hi!" back. Then it hopped on my arm (!) and climbed toward my shoulder. I think it was lonely. It seemed to be the only one of its kind. I wish now that I'd spent more time with it. The best part for me was watching the dozens of newts out in the parking lot change colour in a matter of seconds.

Must see! Lots of beautiful butterflies!
Amazing Experience. Worth a visit for people who like to stay close to nature but cannot be due to busy work schedules. Very clean and safe place for kids as well. Family and groups visits are honestly the best when visiting the garden.
Excellent butterfly garden. Very cool parrots, dart frogs, and of course butterflies. We've been to a few butterfly attractions and this is the best one so far.
It's really nice experience to see bugs, turtles, birds, butterflys and flamingos in one place.
Great place to feel like you are getting away from the winter blues. We love it and use our annual passes enough to make it feel like a great deal.
Well worth the money! Kept in great condition. Friendly and funny birds. Butterflies absolutely everywhere.
We had a really good time with the exotic birds, the reptiles and the beautiful butterflies. Highly recommend specially if you have kids.
A bit small and you will be done in 30+ minutes. But it’s a nice place for the little ones.
My husband and I took our toddler and he loved every minute of it. The covid protocols are great with arrows and the capacity is reasonable. We bought our annual passes due to the wicked deal after visiting once. It will pay for itself after two more visits. Worth it especially if you have any littles.
I expected to see more butterflies, a wider variety of butterflies and a more hands on experience. I'm glad there were flamingos, parrots, ducks and turtles, as it distracted my grandchildren from the fact that the butterfly experience was so disappointing. The gift shop lacked souvenirs that I could purchase for the children to keep as a remembrance. I had to resort to purchasing butterfly memorabilia in downtown Victoria.
Only five minutes from Butchart, this place is very interesting. They have a small insectarium where you see some pretty cool creepy crawlies. Perfect for kids and adults alike. The actual indoor tropical garden has lots of butterflies just flying around (if you're an insect-phobe, you can still go inside and most likely be left alone by the butterflies). The garden also has some birds and other animals. Lots of fun!
Amazing place to be! Well managed and taken card off!
This place was a pleasant surprise for our family. The facility itself was smaller than we imagined it but it was filled with really neat natural phenomena as we went during the "march metamorphosis madness". The bug exhibit in the initial entrance way were fascinating to see because there was some rare insects that you read about or see on tv but rarely see in real life. The gardens were also nice as the butterflies delicately sat on people's hats or clothing. Would definitely recommend with a Groupon or other discount.
The butterfly garden never disappoints. Whenever I try to go there, the person I'm with is always disinterested or against going, but I put my foot down and insist. And guess what... They love it every time. The butterflies are beautiful, the flamingos, parrots and are birds are interesting to watch, and the climate inside is nice, especially on a chill windy day.
A surprising Highlight during my trip to Victoria. What we thought was going to be a fun way to pass a bit of time after our visit to the Butchart Gardens ended up being a really great experience. The facility is fairly small but that leads to many close up encounters with not only the butterflies but also birds, reptiles, and amphibians too. The staff is very knowledgeable and happy to strike up a conversation about their wildlife passion.
Great spot for the whole family to enjoy. Having a parrot land on my arm was one of the neatest highlights.
Great place for kids and adults. Informative and beautiful. Definitely did not think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Great price too!
Really great place to go as a learning experience about creatures ranging from bugs to birds. The butterflies and birds fly around freely, there are feeding stations where the butterflies are eating from bananas and oranges. There is an area where you can see the different stages of life of butterflies (larvae, pupa, etc.). It is really neat. The only downside is it is a temperate climate so it is hot and not easy to breathe with your mask on. I highly recommend this venue.
Always fun. Our two year old and both of us were in awe, for a small space they have alot to see. Great deal for annual passes, so we will be back soon!
The insectarium is very cool and informative. The actual gardens have beautiful flowers and a few different kinds of birds, fish, and turtles as well as the butterflies. There are lots of informative signs and feeding areas to see the butterflies up close.
Small but wonderful place to bring kids and adults alike to experience some beautiful animals. I often see people way overdressed here though, and little kids with too many layers to be comfy. Don't underestimate how hot and humid it is.
A real treat for all ages.
It was really a unique experience. Such a variety of beauty and information.
Great place to bring your toddler(s). Butterflies, birds, and fish!
Ah-mazing place to see a bunch of butterflies, animals, and tropical plants! It's beautiful and appears to be well taken care of. The bug room is also pretty neat, showing an entire leaf cutter ant colony and some other neat creatures.
Such a cool place! They've got an amazing assortment of creepy bugs and an amazing assortment of butterflies! Our kids (4 & 7) loved it here. They thought the addition of the flamingos, b parrots and turtles we're pretty cool too!
A gem of a place to visit. Really glad to have included this as an attraction to have a tour.
Well worth the price. Not very big, but also not an experience you can get just anywhere. Very cool they have live birds and reptiles as well as all the butterflies.
One of the most beautiful places on earth. Truly amazing. Very clean and love the temperature in the house. ❤
Beautiful place. They made a very nice environment. Excellent photography opportunities. However they should give more room to a few of the animals including turtles. They seemed a bit annoyed. One last thing to the loser who had an incident with a bird: Get a life moron. You can not judge a place based on one incident you had, fool. Grow up.
Great place to take the kids. See some insects and butterflies, along with parrots and turtles and a flamingo.
Such a great place to visit! I went with my family and even had a few butterflies land on my coat. Highly recommended.
It's a great place to spend time and learn about nature.
Had a great time there. Lots of species of butterflies and other insects. You can also see some rare and only species of wild insects. Overall wonderful place to visit with kids and family members.
The perfect place to be indoors on a wet rainy day. Tropical garden with insects, butterflies, turtles, parrots & more; lovely & warm.
Good place to spend about 45 minutes with your kids, especially during cold weather because it is very hot and humid inside. It is like a miniature of a jungle. Hope they had more stuff to show.
This is a fantastic afternoon excursion for the family. From the newly added bug zoo to the wonderfully warm and humid butterfly gardens, we were all entranced. I especially loved the unexpected wide variety of birds amidst the predictably excellent collection of exotic butterflies.
This place is a tropical oasis anytime of the year. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great for anyone.
It's a lovely colourful spot just dress warm!
We had a lovely experience. The staff were very friendly. My 5 year old throughly enjoyed it.
Great family outing destination. Very kid friendly.
Absolutely Amazing!! Get swept off your feet and taken to a tropical oasis! The birds and lizards were so so cool on-top of all the butterflies, would definitely come again!
Always a lovely getaway, especially in the winter. Like visiting the tropics for the day! Beautiful butterflies and birds as well as the greenery. Gift shop has some nice items too, if you are looking for a gift or two. You can go to the gift store without going to the gardens, which is nice.
This place doesn't just have butterflies, they have poisonous frogs, turtles, and an assortment of tropical birds. Mind your step when visiting this place. There are wild animals everywhere. You wouldn't wanna step on a butterfly by accident right? The place is small and a visit would take a max of an hour or so. The garden is very humid so make sure you're wearing light clothing when visiting during the summer. A ticket is about $16.50 and for the amount of content it offers, I would say it was well worth the visit. It does close early though, so plan accordingly.
This was a really fun stop in the way to Buchart Gardens. I could have stayed for hours. The insects were so cool and the room with butterflies, birds, fish, turtles and flamingos was so cool! It was also very relaxing. I loved it here.
Very nice place, full of all sorts of things not just the butterflies! The whole way that have it set up is great, because of the easy to navigate garden and insectarium you will never be running into people around there. The actual garden itself is amazing, with butterflies of all colours fly above your head you can be looking at flamingoes or koi fish swimming underneath you. Really a great experience! Would highly recommend.
We felt like we literally stepped into another world. Beautiful delicate specimens. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Victoria Butterfly Garden More than just Butterflies! They also have some cool large insects, birds, a lizard and turtles. Very clean, good size parking lot and a gift shop. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
A must stop for when you're in the area. This place is magical and guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
A MUST! Honestly between Butchart Gardens and this place. I would visit this place again. Also they have a controlled climate so very likely the butterfly and insects can be appreciated year round. Better insectarium than Vancouver Aquarium or Vancouver Science World. NOTE: Do not touch the butterflies! But sometimes if you simply extend your arm they might rest on your hand.
Very cute place. We enjoyed it.
Really beautiful and magnificent. Every age can enjoy this place and also have some really cool place.. Best ones are Beatles and tarantulas spiders.
Smaller than I expected, but still had a wonderful collection of butterflies and animals. This is a great place for families.
Such a beautiful and exciting place to visit! I tell all my relatives and friends to go when they come to town. You can wander around for hours and still be dazzled by everything inside! A very affordable and family friendly must-see for island residents and tourists alike! Can't wait to go again - a photographer's dream!!
It seemed a smidge pricey, but when we got home it was switched back to US dollars and was then reasonable. We had a great time. You had to look in every nook and cranny because you would miss quite a lot if you didn't go slow and look every where. Fabulous time.
Lovely afternoon viewing various species. Very enjoyable!
A lot more butterflies than I was expecting and a lot more than just butterflies! Feels like you’re walking inside a zoo exhibit. We saw small lizards, parrots, tortoises, flamingoes, and a chameleon. Also some rare and interesting plants. Personally, I had more fun here than the Butchart gardens.
Nice place with some amazing plant life
It's an awesome place to go to if you like rainforests. Reasonably sized and butterflies crawl all over you. It's a good place to have fun.
Awesome..only one of its kind.. Doesn't take long to finish, so you can easily include it in your itinerary even if in hurry..
An amazing experience with butterflies flying around in a very organic environment. Must visit if you are in Victoria.
I expected to see more variety of butterflies and a bigger place!
A beautiful place to explore. Located about 15 minutes from downtown Victoria. Great place to take the kids. Be prepared for hot humid climate!
This was pretty good... I wish it had more information on the butterflies. The beginning of the self tour has a fairly detailed description of each of the bugs but the butterflies do not.
I heard about this place several times, seen it on the way to Butchards Garden, finally this year we went and I had such a great experience!! Lots of interesting things to see, beautiful butterflies everywhere, birds, fish, it was really an awesome experience. I do recommend hanging up your jackets because its humid once you get into the actual place to see the butterflies. Great for all ages. Lots of parking available. Prices are reasonable.
Went here on a rainy day and it was wonderful. A great place to bring kids and you'll enjoy it as much as them. Admission fee is reasonable and if you are a local consider getting an annual membership.
Area is smaller than expected and feel little pricey but very beautiful butterflies and you can see the butterfly growth process
What a lovely tropical paradise this is. Free flying butterflies everywhere. No curtains or drapes, as often seen in other butterfly display gardens, just a lush colourful garden to enjoy. Turtles, Koi, birds, and a pair of Flamingos make it a complete experience for young and old and those in between.
Wonderful place to spend an hour or two. If you live the Victoria area the yearly pass is a great value, if for no other reason than to have the opportunity to chase away some of the winter blahs.
A tropical oasis to enjoy on grey wet-coast days! Staff are so friendly and welcoming - a treat to explore any day of the year!
AVOID for now. It is an amazing place to take grandchildren but I was shocked today that there was no masking, limited opportunity for distancing. Not a place for unvaccinated children.
A magical place to visit. We loved it.
We loved it here! So many things to discover.
I quite enjoyed my time at the Butterfly Gardens. It is true that it is a small facility but there are a lot of things to see. My son loved the parrots and the flamingos, I personally loved to be walking amongst beautiful, colorful butterflies. Try to go for opening and avoid the tour buses
This place was absolutely astounding. We loved it, the insect exhibit was incredible, and the butterfly gardens were such a treat. The staff was helpful and friendly. I loved seeing all the creatures interacting!!
Lots of beautiful butterflies, and not too crowded.
Nice place BUT if you go to the back and look up there is a large fan (probably for ventilation) with an inadequately spaced screen. If you stand there for any length of time you will see beautiful butterflies attempt to fly past the screen only to be sucked onto it and flap a few more times before its inevitable death. It was horrifying. Can't you put another screen farther from the wall so the pull isn't as strong?! I hope that's not where the $70 gift store butterflies are from!
Children learn in a playful manner I recommend the place.
All kinds of yucky bugs and ants (in glass enclosed environments) the kids will love (I did too!). Don't miss Spike the ginormous igauna. Oh, and the flamingoes and koi! The butterflies are beautiful and it is a happy warm environment for the whole family.
It's very nice to visit this garden. As per COVID restrictions make sure have ligh clothing. it's prety warm there.
the place is a bit too small. but it was still fun to see the butterflies flying around people.
Lots of animals to go see! Not just butterflies!
You walk in and it's like you enter a new world. First the ants and insects, then the butterflies, really a great experience.
Wonderful experience. I wish so much that our world rainforests were intact to protect all these precious beings.
Great place to come beat the winter blues.
We've been meaning to go for a long time glad we did . In a small area there is a lot to see .if you can bring a good camera with you you're going to want to take pictures . It is more things there then just butterflies I don't want to ruin it for you but there is exotic birds And other creatures that will fascinate you
Relaxing and beautiful...a nice 1 hr. Look for the birds and lizards hiding in the foliage
Great experience today and very thankful to the staff who let me in even though I arrived two minutes after they lock the door. ( they close at 3 but you can view until 4 p.m.) Totally worth the admission price when you see what's inside and the variety and array of animals that are being supported. Great place to go on an overcast or cool day when you want to be in a happy, humid place. Butterflies are flying all around and there are a great mixture of exotic birds including a pair of flamingos, tortoise, tree frogs and koi fish. There's even a waterfall! Also really enjoyed the Insectarium which is on the way in. Make sure you take time to linger and enjoy all the wonderful creatures that you would not see otherwise. Great tourist attraction. Give yourself at least an hour or more so that you have time to enjoy and relax. And don't miss the wall of new hatchlings and pupae that are displayed on the wall just to the right of the exit from the jungle. Lastly take in the gift shop on the way out because they have a lot of amazing things at all price points.
It is our second visit! It is the best place to take kids! Butterflies are fun, parrots are fun, turtles, fish, birds!! Ant farm is absolutely beautiful!!! Must visit if you come to Victoria!!!
My kids are 5 and 7 and enjoyed it. We didn't need to be there for more than an hour though. A couple times around the loop was sufficient for kids.
Awesome
Great place to visit when it's chilly out. Hundreds of butterflies, birds, turtles, flamingos, and insects.
Can't recommend enough, amazing plants, bugs, butterflies, and parrots, friendly staff, just go there and look at everything
Quite an enjoyable experience. Thought I'd only be there for 15 minutes ended up staying for a little bit over an hour. Loved the personality of the flamingo and strolling and exploring the different butterflies and other wildlife.
really lovely! lots of different bugs and a few birds as well.
What a cool place! Staff were very friendly and there is lots to see. Feels like a jungle when you walk thru the exhibit with so many great photo opportunities.
A but creepy at first but if you see a low flyer just duck. Very pretty.
Great for a mini tropical vacation when your feeling chilly. Amazing and beautiful plants and animals.
So many beautiful butterflies and birds. Various other insects and reptiles to check out. Not suitable for children of an age that will touch what they are asked not to. It is a pretty little sanctuary and lots of little spots where butterflies can be photographed while feeding.
Better that the last time that we went. LOVED the Ant display - we could watch that for hours.
If you like bugs, butterflies, reptiles and other exotic animals come to the butterfly gardens! Really enjoyed my experience.
An amazing place lots of butterflies parrots turtles ants and more
Really nice, although small place, but with lots of butterfly, a flamingo and a couple of macaws. They have a gift shop. Clean restroom (they had a step stool, and that's great because my little one can't reach the sink yet) There's a restaurant across the street, so we went there for breakfast.
I loved it. The people are friendly and the butterflies, bugs and other animals are gorgeous.
This dumb bird kept kissing my wife. Saw butterflies too.
Absolutely one of the Nicest display of flowers and landscaping. Extremely clean and cared for. The flowers were spectacular! And everyone from the young ladies and gentleman assisting car parking to horticulturalist caring for the plants were very helpful.
Took my grand kids here last week. Awesome place. Butterflies were landing all over us. Unique experience.
A great experience! Reasonably priced and well kept. The insectarium, butterfly garden, birds, fish, turtles... fun!
Had a great time with my 10-year-old daughter! She loved all the butterflies, but there's a lot more to enjoy ... tortoises, turtles, birds, a bearded dragon ... we walked around the pathway about 10 times! Butterflies landed on her twice, she nearly burst with excitement! :) Highly recommend this excursion!
Great place to bring kids and guests.
Nice place with some amazing plant life
Interesting place to visit!
Fun place to go and see butterflies but we also saw lots of Tropical flowers and flowers 17 $ for a 10 minute walk
An awesome place to bring kids on a rainy day. Beautiful butterflies, huge koi, parrots, flamingos and more. Only negative is I wish it was bigger. Doing this and Butchart Gardens, which is close by, makes an excellent day trip.
Nice butterflies, terrible patrons. I can't really blame the management, except there wasn't anyone in the garden to manage the terrible patrons. Very interesting though, many beautiful moths, butterflies and birds, excellent showing of their lifecycle as well.
We had a lovely experience. The staff were very friendly. My 5 year old throughly enjoyed it.
Very much a toddler approved place. Wish the bug exhibits were a bit lower but understandable why they sit a bit higher. Be aware the butterfly part is quite warm so water isn't a bad idea. We easily went around 4 times with our two year old for a good hour.
Such fun! Lots to see, and safe practices top notch!
One of the best butterfly gardens I have visited. The insectarium was wonderful. Love the place. The birds are so up close.
It was an interesting room. This little parrot took a liking to my granddaughter. Many insects in the entryway that I had never seen.
It was really a unique experience. Such a variety of beauty and information.
We get an annual pass here each year, it's a nice and warm outing with kids on a cold rainy day! The insectarium makes it even better!
Lots of fun with the grandkids. Very educational!
This butterfly place is so beautiful, we loved it. Watch where you step tho butterflies and other small animals are everywhere.
Fun stop with lots of interesting insects and animals to look at. Some beautiful plants too! Great for kids and adults alike, don't forget your camera. Highly recommend.
Visited with my husband and 1 year old. The staff were very friendly, the place was well kept, and it was alot of fun! Our little guy loved the free flying butterflies. A beautiful spot with some great learning opportunities.
So many beautiful butterflies flying around everywhere with a few extra animals thrown in. Tortoise, turtles, a flamingo and some birds to name a few. My 3 and 5 year old loved it and so did I! Lovely place to spend some time, especially when it's cold and wet out!
The Insectarium had its grand opening this weekend!
Great place to take the kids. See some insects and butterflies, along with parrots and turtles and a flamingo.
Loved it. Butterflies everywhere! But don't be fooled by the name... It's not just butterflies, it's a full jungle type experience. They have many insects, birds, tortoises, amphibians and more. The plants here are amazing, from carnivorous, to poisonous, to Touch-sensative plants. You will walk through the middle of the jungle. Pros: Very exciting and highly interactive. Very educational. Garden is filled with bits of knowledge for you to learn Cons: Because it is a jungle environment, it gets hot and muggy fast. This is a necessity for them to maintain the plans and animals alive and healthy. But if you want to look at a conference as a pro, it gives you a more true experience
Absolutely magical. The insectorium is amazing. I could have watched the leaf cutter ants for hours.
Fun and educational for the whole family. Groups are OK. Real close to Butchart Gardens. So make a day of it. Enjoy, see images attached.
Awesome experience. Fun for the whole family. Very interactive and memorable.
This humble garden, tucked away in an unassuming plaza, actually contains a tropical wonderland filled with many species of butterfly, some tropical birds, turtles, and tropical plants. There is also an insectarium with two colonies of leafcutter ants and a variety of stick insects, a goliath spider, a scorpion, some millipedes, and a beetle or two. Well worth the price of admission. It must not be easy to maintain a place like this.
This was a GREAT experience! Our 4.5yr old was so excited!!
Amazing place to see butterflies, bugs, and birds up close! Leaf-cutter ant farm is fantastic! Lovely tropical gardens, shrubs and trees. Like a trip to Costa Rica!
This place was much better than I anticipated was well worth the effort
So many amazing animals. I could sit here all day.
Well worth a visit if you're on the island. Check on Groupon for a discount.
Lots to take in an look at! Would go in the morning when it's not as busy.
Took my kids down on fathers day and got in for free with their fathers day special. The kids had a blast watching the butterflies, tortoises and the parrots. One of the parrots came and sat down on tree that was less than a foot away from my son, which made his day, he was extremely happy and excited to see one that close. The entire area is fairly small you can be in an out in 30 min, but if your looking for a fun and interesting place to the the kids, i would recommend it.
This garden is beautifully stunning and meticulous. The leisurely self guided tour takes you to all the locations inside the park. There is also a plant guide to assist with identification. The staff is helpful in answering questions. I want sure if I would enjoy walking through a garden, but the beauty captivated me!
Excellent butterfly garden. Very cool parrots, dart frogs, and of course butterflies. We've been to a few butterfly attractions and this is the best one so far.
It's a lovely place to visit. Its just a small butterfly sanctuary that not only has butterflies but also features different kinds of plants, animals, and insects. It is like a mini zoo. The brochure they give is very useful for identifying different living things around there. We found the insects the most interesting. Also they have seniors rate so that's another good thing.
We felt like we literally stepped into another world. Beautiful delicate specimens. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Kids loved it.
Pricey and not super large but the kids did have fun and there were lots of butterflies and koi as well as two flamingos and a few tropical birds
It was very relaxing and serene, I adored the little parrot — I think the brochure called him Little-E — he was very cute. The staff were extremely nice, and going back to the brochure, it was really informative, and taught me things I didn't know before. I adore this place, I'm definitely coming back for sure.
Amazing Experience!!.Must visit this Gardens.
Expensive, if you are planning to visit please make sure that students and Seniors have their ID with them, nothing special or interesting there few insects and few varieties of butterflies as some parrots. Humid/ muggy so be prepared with appropriate clothing.
Beautiful. Lots of nature to take in. A little small, but enough to spend an hour at.
Beautiful facility! Educational and ebtertaining
Beautiful indoor tropical garden. Butterflies are amazing, they are everywhere and will land on you. You have to walk slowly and watch your step sometimes so you don't step on them (not a big deal, they generally get out of your way). Some other critters mixed in such as parrots, a pair of gorgeous flamingos and a colony of tortoises. Plants are lush and grow up and over your head. A must see if you are in Victoria.
This place is pretty awesome with small group just to hang out and spend some time with nature. There's a small section filled with bugs and that's pretty cool! Great experience.
Incredible collection of plants, butterflies and non- native insects and a variety of poison dart frogs!!
Beautiful and informative, more than just butterflies!
Was pretty crowded when we went, but we had an amazing time! The flowers and gardens displays were beautifully maintained and it was a ton of fun watching the staff members interact with, and teach visitors about their surroundings.
It was magical. The moment we walked in about 8 butterflies fluttered around our heads and a very large beautiful one landed on my girlfriend's dress. The variety and number of butterflies was huge.
Fantastic time! I took my 16 mo. old grandson. He loved it. Bought a year pass...so worth it. Can't wait to go again.
Enjoyed my time here, more than just butterfly's although they remain the highlight.. Ended up with one in my hair
It was ok. I was expecting it to be a little bit bigger. Think the one in Coombs has more to see. The kids liked the Leaf Cutter Ant display.
Greatest place for kids and adults! Spectacular butterflies ????in such a beautiful environment. Very educational for the very young and their grandparents ???? We have season passes for us and even our out of town kids & grandkids when they all come over to the island! Perfect any time of the year to visit! Fun activities for the kids too finding the different species on their maps. They don’t have just butterflies but tropical birds.... friendly ones, tortoises, BUGS ????, fish and exotic flowers!!!
what an experience. what a place. we've been driving by regularly for about five years and we've never gone. what we missed we found out today. from the entrance with super friendly staff to the mind-blowing ant colonies and the tropical birds interacting with you absolutely everything is fantastic in this little wonderland. my wife and I haven't felt so revitalized being out in a public place in a couple of years. we've signed up for the annually pass right after and we can't wait to visit every week or so when we have a bit of time left before going back to our home on Mayne Island. thanks to everyone who makes the Gardens happen, you girls & guys are amazing!!!!
really lovely! lots of different bugs and a few birds as well.
I just LOVE the Victoria Butterfly Gardens! We have an annual pass (2 kids and 2 adults) and go about once a month, always have a great time and we are absolutely in love with Little E the eclectus parrot! I especially like to visit in the winter to get out of the cold, its like a mini vacation to the tropics!
AVOID for now. It is an amazing place to take grandchildren but I was shocked today that there was no masking, limited opportunity for distancing. Not a place for unvaccinated children.
So much fun, and the butterflies will land on you. The birds in the foliage are also gorgeous. This is just down the road from Bouchard gardens And well worth a trip If you have children with you
Great place to visit with kids. Lots of butterfly
Very beautiful place, worth visiting! It's a must see for all the nature lovers out there. You can feel like walking through some tropical forest... It's great for everyone. Kids will enjoy not only the butterflies but also flamingos, turtles, parrots and more!
I don't know if it changes at different times of the year, but there was a big array of butterflys flying around and a few tropical birds, turtles, flamingos etc..Lots for kids to see and explore.
Very interesting I got to see iguanas and the perrots!! I felt like if I was in El Salvador....so tropical and I have good luck because a butterfly sat on me for a lonnnnng time!!
We have a WONDERFUL time. This is absolutely worth the time. Set aside 2 hours,to really enjoy the insects, birds butterflies and turtles.
We felt bad for the birds. They seemed sad. There were limited butterflies and they had super old food (fruit) left out for them (see picture) and the butterflies were desperately picking away at it. We also found a cockroach (in pic). Bug part was interesting. I think it's newer. I wouldn't go back
the place is a bit too small. but it was still fun to see the butterflies flying around people.
We had an amazing time!!! Our kids loved it and we enjoyed seeing all the other plants and animals too.
We went here to satisfy our daughters new interest in butterflies and she absolutely loved it. Lots of different butterflies, parrots, a flamingo, turtles, koi fish etc. It was small enough to see everything with ease and she loved every minute. We stayed an hour. I will say, and maybe it's obvious for others, it was very warm and humid so dress lightly! Haha. The gift shop was well stocked too.
Butterflies landed on my face but the best was "my bird" Little El remembered me from three years ago and even walked over to my kids. He knew they belonged to me. A magical birthday treat for me. Thank you,Little El!!
One of a kind experience; butterflies and lil birdies fly across you, parrots, turtles, flamingo and what not to admire! It’s like a tropical wonderland with sweet bird sounds, humidity and vegetation! A great place for children. Pro tip: Leave your jackets in the car if visiting in winter!
This place is awesome. It’s like stepping into a jungle. So relaxing to hear, touch and smell a little bit of a tropical rainforest. Very educational, informative and interesting. I’ve been here twice now, and the staff are very friendly and interact well with visitors. The parrot was just great. Highly recommended!
Amazing place. Butterflies flying around of course. Birds, turtles, and fish also live here. It was such a relaxing place. I could have spent whole afternoon there just to sit and relax.
Different every time - great for toddlers through grandparents! The season pass is well worth it and cheers up any dreary day with a visit
This place is absolutely lovely! I enjoy taking my children here as often as possible. Make sure you do not dress too warmly as it is fairly warm and humid in there.
Butterfly Gardens is my favorite tourist attraction ! All the beautiful creatures and Butterflies are moving to watch in the environment. Very friendly staff and great for little kids.
Really great selection of insects and a handful of tropical creatures. Even a few exotic birds. Displays include but are not limited to parrots, ants, beetles, spiders, turtles, flamingos, and of course butterflies. It is hot and humid inside the garden so be prepared for that. While a great experience it may be more reasonable priced for groups.
Amazing. Loved the bugs and the butterfly's fluttered around me like a magical fairyland. Also appreciated seeing some tortoises. Just lovely
It’s a bit on the small side, but it’s packed with cool plants, animals and insects. Slow down, have a seat, take things in and it’s quite a nice relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Loved the place. They have about 3000 beautiful butterflies all the time. Birds plus bugs. Great experience for kids and adults equally. Oh yes turtles and flamingos too.
Great for a rainy day in Victoria. Small but well worth it! Great for children. Book for about an hour. Bring a camera for the beautiful butterflies. They have flamingos and cool turtles wandering around. Tip. Dress in layers. When you go into the auditorium where the butterflies are, it’s VERY humid and hot. You definitely don’t want to be wearing a coat or sweater!
Oh it was incredible I had a wonderful time. I had hoped that butterfly would have landed on me. But it was so beautiful in there all the beautiful plants and there was some flowering plants and all sorts of different creatures in there wonderful experience I will be back.
This a quiet resting spot on a cold day and very peaceful. The kids especially like exploring the paths and finding all the animals and birds. Don't forget to look at the exotic bug display in the lobby.
Small, but has a lot packed in. Entrance has an assortment of exotic large insects that were a pleasant surprise. The butterfly garden itself was fairly typical in that it was hot, humid, and filled with interesting jungle plants. It had a multitude of various butterflies in many areas, including feeding zones where it was easy to spot them. Additionally, there was an active chrysalis case which had butterflies emerging from them. Finally, as strange but enjoyable icing, there were tortoises, parrots, and even flamingos. It only lasts about 45 minutes, but was neat and is close to Buchart.
This place is amazing! It doesn't just have butterflies, but birds, bugs, and turtles/tortoises too! It is so much fun!
Very hot & humid, not enough Butterflies. Disappointed with the time allotted for this tour.
This was a highlight of our trip. The horny parrot/green Bird was hilarious and really really liked the ladies. To the point it was awkward. Humping on the arm of multiple ladies, but damn was he cool. Loved it! The flamingos also argued (fought) over their food even though I'm pretty sure it's what they both get everyday. Hilarious. Only complaint is it was humid and super hot. But that's the jungle right? Can't complain about that, so disregard my complaint! Had a fantastic time and the front counter folks were super friendly and informative. You all rock!
Loved it. Not only are there many butterflies, but a lizard and tropical birds. Well worth the drive. We liked it so much we got year passes.
This place is awesome. The butterflies are beautiful. And they have SO much more to see!
Nice place to take kids if you have them or just people who love tropical animals/bugs. Has lots of tropical birds (parrots, flamingos, etc), turtles, even poison dart frogs!
Well done and more fun than we expected! Be sure to watch out for butterflies on the ground!
Loved it Nature's is always beautiful
A must see if you are in the neighborhood and like insects/bugs, butterflies/parrots/turtles/frogs. The first thing you see is the insectaria. Different displays (no spoilers from me) where you easily look half an hour, while it is isn't even that large of an area. Make you sure you see them all. After that, you access the gardens. Butterflies everywhere and multiple other animals. Just take your time, as for some animals/butterflies you have to look thrice even after a sign tells you, something is there. This place is not that large, but you can easily look around for 1,5 hour. We were here on a sunny Sunday, and it was a bit busy with lots of children. If you want a quiet day, try a week day on a low season. One negative point: the garden is totally not self sustainable. Large amount of butterflies are bought weekly. Looks like that will also not be a future target.
Amazing garden. Must visit in victory
A lot of kind of butterflies and insects here.
This place is a good place to visit . There are literally hundreds of butterfly’s flying around and some even land on you. This is a tropical setting as there are flamingos, parrots, koi, iguana and an insectarium. It’s not over pricey but you can get a group rate thru groupon .
Good to visit specially if you have children.
The most magical place. It's small but its soooooooo magical. I dont even have children but it really brings out the magic in nature . Love this place. Wish there was a guide to explain things though.
Small but very unique Garden, full of butterflies, tropical plants, exotic birds, flamingos, turtles... If you visiting with children, it will be very educational and fun, because in front of your eyes you can see how beautiful butterfly was born, or touching very friendly parrot, who was saying "hello"
A great spot to visit for any age group. You start with a walk past the mini zoo before entering the very humid gardens. The gardens are fully of different butterflies and moths zooming about or resting as well as a parrot, some turtles, tortoises, fish and flamincos.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, I went twice within ten days, bringing along another friend to enjoy the gardens. The price is reasonable at $17 and the yearly pass is additionally reasonable at $40, which if bought during a visit, they will only charge you the difference. It is tropical inside, so don't go in wearing a sweater. And let your sense of wonder marvel at the life here.
Amazing place to learn about butterflies. My toddler son enjoyed it a lot. I myself was particularly impressed by the hatching display, where you can see all kind of butterflies emerge from their cocoons and the feeding area. People may think it is a pass by attraction on the way to Burchard gardens, however I strongly recommend visiting in as it is definitely worth a trip on its own.
Beautiful garden . Loved the very friendly parrot. We would definately go again .
Lovely place, enjoy a tropical day any day!
One of the beautiful getaway.. Insects, butterflies, tortes, both small big birds.. We watch one leaf cutting ant cutting a piece of leaf to take it all the all around round and round to the nest..Neat exp.
So much fun! This place was like a dream come true. Butterflies, tropical birds and plants, and so much more.
Great place to go to see some amazing butterflies, frogs, turtles, birds, and even flamingos without having to break the bank at all.
A quiet, peaceful, and fun place to visit for the whole family. You only need an hour to an hour and a half to go through the entire place. A must see if visiting Victoria.
Very informative with lot of rare insect. Very nice ants colony set up. Beautiful butterflies in a small than expected enclosed environment. Hoping to see it will expand in the future.
It was both educational and entertaining. Definately worth the effort.
Super fun for all ages! The workers are super informative and there’s so much to see and learn. The covid regulations are well managed. I highly recommend going, especially using the groupon :)
Victoria Butterfly gardens is a breath taking exhibition. It’s was really neat seeing all sorts of butterfly’s flying around. Also was meet the insect exhibition, creepy but fun at same time.
Always a nice visit, insects area nice addition and chatting with Shadow is always fun!
Children learn in a playful manner I recommend the place.
Always a great time at the butterfly gardens. The staff is friendly and the gardens are beautifully maintained
One of the most beautiful places on earth. Truly amazing. Very clean and love the temperature in the house. ❤
Really cool place to visit. Neat close up insect exhibits, and the tropical room with free flying butterflies, birds, iguana, turtles, koi, and at least one lizard we found.
Neat place but I honestly didn't see too many butterflies. I'm sure this would be a great little trip for kids. They had all other kinds of animals in there though, including a parrot that liked to climb on the females and give them kisses. There were also some turtles, tortoises, and a ton of insects in cases.
What a great place to check out. Wheelchair accessible.
A place for family of all ages. From the Insectarium to learning about butterflies while one lands on you. Fantastic. Good price for this adventure!
Kids should love this. Free flying butterflies and a few surprises
Small glimpse into a jungle paradise from a children’s novel. The butterflies are the main attraction and the best part. There is also a small bug exhibit before entering the gardens that is neat. Other animals in the garden are flamingos, parrots, turtles, lizards (chameleon), frogs, koi fish and more. Tip: it’s hot in the gardens (tropical), there’s hangers up front. But you’ll likely want to be in a t-shirt inside no matter what the weather is outside so keep that in mind when dressing for it.
Great experience for anyone who’s visiting Victoria! Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the gardens are beautiful and the admission price is reasonable.
Beautiful garden, the butterflies were the least interesting(but they were still incredible) with so many other things to see including parrots, tortoises, turtles and a flamingo
Very nice place to entertain your L.O.(s). Takes 45-60 minutes to go through. COVID-19 protocols are in place. Expect to wait 10-15 minutes in front. You can buy the ticket online in advance, however there is no problem to wait in line and buy them on the spot.
It's a fantastic place to see the wonderful butterflies in various çolours the pink flamingos fish parrots etc. Quite humid but there is a coat rack at the front door to hang ur coat
It was amazing experience. Not a big place but worth the money!
Brought our granddaughter here, many other Spring Break grandparents there too! Beautiful, well presented displays of various tropical insects, stories of the life cycle of moths and butterflies ????, how to help preserve the population of butterflies and moths. Lovely assortment of turtles and tropical birds including two beautiful flamingos! Really neat to have the butterflies fluttering around freely. Good time had by all the grandparents and grandchildren!
Large self-guided butterfly enclosure with a few surprising animals amongst the greenery - tortoises, koi, parrots, other tropical birds, even a flamingo. Wear light clothing when going into the enclosure - it's purposely very warm and humid in there. Lots of free parking. Probably roughly a 30-45 minute visit.
A lovely place, greatful for the children
You go through the front room with interesting bugs and a huge ant colony. Then enter an absolutely magical rain forest with hundreds of butterflies, turtles, flamingos, small lizards, and a koi pond/ river that runs through the whole room. Very cool!
Gorgeous place! Will gladly come back next year.
A great place to visit. Many butterflies and other creatures to see.
Small but beautiful..bit expensive for the garden. Good for kids.
Awesome place! very small but it is a Little paradise !
A nice garden for me as I took a lot of pictures of the butterflies, koi fish, parrots and a pink flamingo.
This place is worth a visit if you like butterflies. They don't seem to get too many tour buses so it's not that crowded. We spent about an hour there.
This place is absolutely beautiful. A must see and make sure you actually sit and absorb the beauty for awhile. Don't motor through as it is absolutely amazing. So much colour and so many butterflies, macaws, koi and many other forest jewels.
It's worth the price for this little attraction. The gift/souvenir shop can be a little pricey, but they do have a variety of things there. I went with my daughter who was six and she loved every minute of it. Definitely worth it for the kids! Flamingos, a huge iguana and some turtles are among the more exotic animals there.
Nice garden. Beautifully done. Just thought the price tag for the size is a bit high. But still worth the visit. Thanks.
We went in May and experienced a real joy being amongst butterflies! It is a good place to find excitement and peace.
A very lovely place. It can be a short visit but I definitely suggest this place. Lots of butterflies and other animals.
We have a WONDERFUL time. This is absolutely worth the time. Set aside 2 hours,to really enjoy the insects, birds butterflies and turtles.
Love dropping by here a few times a year. Great to see tropical animals in your local neighbourhood.
Small place but lots to explore.
I had a very enjoyable visit with my 3 year old daughter, she really enjoyed seeing all the butterflies and moths fluttering around. Butterfly gardens is a tropical sanctuary, Warm humid and green. Great place to visit for kids and adults, high recommended.
Beautiful little place to be up close and friendly with birds, butterflies, and turtles.. not to forget an impressive ant exhibit
Beautiful!!! The staff were very friendly, can't wait to go back.
Beautiful!! So many different gorgeous butterflies, and (SPOILER ALERT!) 4 macaws, a parrot, turtles, canaries, and even a giant green iquana, oh my! ???? The entire gardens is like walking through an exotic jungle and so beautiful everywhere! Would highly recommend as a tourist must see to anyone! ????
So fun to find butterflies on Vancouver Island. And the bug exhibits were weird and wonderful. Definitely worth a visit
A beautiful space for a variety of different butterflies. They had posion arrow frogs, a pair of flamingos, turles, koi fish and a couple species of parrots. A short distance from Butchart Gardens.
A great place to take kids on a rainy day or if you need a cheap dose of the humid tropics on a cold winter day. The exhibit doesn't change much but my kid still enjoys going again and again. Groupons are common for this place so always check before going.
There were lots of butterflies and turtles and a flamingo a gecko an iguana and even frogs!!!
Great facility. There's not just butterflys but also a large ant colony, unique stick and leaf insects and frogs as well as turtles, parrots and flamingos. Great for children. One elementary age had been there with his school and asked his parents to bring him back. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
Fantastic place to visit. Lots of butterflies and insects. They even have flamingos inside. We did not expect this little place to be this much fun to be honest. We were walking inside and minding our own business and suddenly heard someone saying "hello" to us... We turned and it was the parrot in the picture below! It was pretty funny and friendly.
Absolutely great experience. Reminds me of home (Southeast Asia). If you are planning to visit the place look for deals online, don't pay the full price for the entrance. The area is very clean and well maintained. The staff are great and knowledgeable.
Cute little gardens with lots of butterflies but also other insects and some birds!
We liked the insect displays prior to entering the butterfly area. Also all the butterflys, turtles, flamingos, koi, birds and lizards in the main garden. It's not a large garden but there's plenty to see
Great place. Takes 10 min to walk through the hole place.
I wasn't sure at first but once I entered the greenroom area and was greater by half a dozen butterflies I knew it was worth it. The only downside is you can't touch any of the insects, birds or turtles. We had also been to the victoria bug zoo which does allow you to touch with assistance. Both are wonderful and make a full experience for any bug lovers.
Fun with the family. I recommend butchart gardens after coming here. Bring a camera and a. Big empty memory card.
Great place to go for young and old alike.
I visited Butterfly Gardens for an industry function. Staff are wonderful and knowledgeable. Great little Insect / Bug Zoo is part of the facility as you first enter. As you walk into the bird and butterfly sanctuary, a small stream flows throughout where you will encounter parrots, flamingos, butterflies, to name a few.
Everyone needs to go at least once! The butterfly’s, and lizards of all sorts, turtles, flamingos, fish. You name it they have it! And always growing in new creatures. The admission is super cheep, you can feed the turtles and have butterflies land on you(they like red) beware the noisiest and sometimes snapping flyer he is a character but like to nibble or two. ;) a year admission is cheep and worth it. So go! Learn something, hang out and enjoy. Just remember to BRING WATER AND DRESS LIGHTLY!
A well run facility with lots of butterflies, parrots, carp fish, and bugs.
Really neat experience! It is not terribly bug but there is so much to see and do in here. You walk in and they have a bug experience which was kind of fascinating. Then when you go into the butterfly pavilion it is humid in there. They have so many different types. They have a few different stations to learn about the butterfly and Caterpillars the butterfly's just fly all around you and some are just huge! They even land on you from time to time if you let them. There are a few other animals in there as well. They have desert tortoises, a blue macaw and they have flamingos! So cool!
Such marvelous creatures! It was fascinating, almost mesmerizing, watching the ants cut the leaves at the very first display. And we hadn't even entered the butterfly garden area yet! Come empty and you'll leave having filled yourself with wonder. What a treat.
Gorgeous garden, many butterflies, wonderful experience
Wow! What a treat. We had a local guide with us and she asked whether we wanted to go to the Butterfly Garden after Burchert Gardens. Since we're not from around here and never heard of it we said, "sure." This was probably one of the best surprises that we didn't know about the Island. We had a blast looking at all of the insects. It's really amazing to see these insects and how they adapt to their area. Later as we walked into the Butterfly Garden we really enjoyed all of the different types of Butterflies that they had. It's really surprising to see all of them. There are other animals there as well, such as parrots and turtles If you're coming to this area and you are going Burchert Garden you should definitely stop here.
My 17-year-old who is super hard to "like" much of anything said this was his favorite part of our trip to Victoria
Very nice facility with a large assortment of butterflies and some exotic animals including parrots and an iguana. One of the larger butterfly gardens that we have visited. All the animals look very healthy. We stop by after we left Butchart Gardens
It was nice to see... will I do it again.... no... one time for an adult is fine... but great for kids
Never been to one before was absolutely blown away by the beauty of the butterflies and the other occupants.
Number of people allowed in the main area was limited, but the line moved quickly. Arrows on the ground indicating one way paths but lots of toddlers running the opposite direction with parents close behind. Nice way to spend a few hours.
A great activity for a rainy day.
IT WAS THE BEST!!! It was one of the best experiences of my life I wanted to go around again and again and again.
Wow this place is fun and really enjoyable.
Wow this place is fun and really enjoyable.
Beautiful place to take anyone of any age. Lots of beautiful butterflies flying around and you might even have one land on you. Worth the money for sure. Close to Butchart Gardens too so it would make a good day to do together. It's warm and humid inside the Butterfly Gardens though so dress appropriately.
What a fun place! So much to see for what isn't that big of an area. The leaf cutter ant exhibit was masterfully put together, so neat to watch them go to work. The butterfly, plant and parrot area was amazing-so many different butterflies and other things to see, we could have spent hours in there alone. Our 2 year old loved it as well. Thanks for putting on such a great show!!
Relaxing and beautiful. Must visit :)
Love this attraction! Staff was very knowledgeable & truly passionate about the butterflies, flamingos, turtles & parrots. Very reasonably priced $16.50 for adults. Would go back.
A pleasant surprise on our way to Butchart Gardens. Not only butterflies but also turtles, ducks, flamingos and coy. Exhibit of exotic, unusual insects as you enter.
We had a great first time visit and will return. The insectarium was neat but the butterflies were beyond expectations. We were overwhelmed with butterflies and the tropical plants. The other animals in the enclosure were the icing on the cake.
Number of people allowed in the main area was limited, but the line moved quickly. Arrows on the ground indicating one way paths but lots of toddlers running the opposite direction with parents close behind. Nice way to spend a few hours.
Bang for the buck! Beautiful place..
Spectacularly fun. A little green parrot really liked us.
Stunning array of butterflies, birds, tropical foliage, and water features! We have been to several butterfly gardens, including the one at the Seattle Science Center. This butterfly garden takes the cake. It's a delightful assortment of very healthy butterflies. There are so many that you have to frequently watch your step and duck as a butterfly flutters by. We loved it. The garden isn't huge, but it makes up for it's size with the sheer number of different species! Check out our photos. It's a must see!
Small place but soooo much to look at! There's alot of information to absorb and more than butterflies to look at. This place was amazing and the staff is super friendly. I would definitely go again!
We weren't sure how he'd react but our 6-month old loved it. I could spend hours watching the leaf cutter ants. Will definitely be back.
A must see for tourists visiting Victoria. A tropical paradise.
This place is magical, for $16.95 I saw the most and prettiest butterflies I've ever seen! Gift shop has great options too. The "insectarium" was a great attraction too
Beautiful pictures.
The idea behind the business is neater than the actual conservatory. Expensive ticket for access to a small tropical room. It was beautiful, but over priced and very underwhelming. All hype, no delivery.
Excellent indoor nature experience. Butterflies, exotic insects, birds, fish, frogs, turtles, iguanas, and plants! Great place to spend a rainy afternoon.
A small but very cool display of bugs before entering the gardens where you will see lots of exotic flowers, butterflies, turtles and birds. Wear light clothes as it is very humid in there!
Very fun place, the butterflys and other animals are wonderful. Bring a camera as you may catch a few nice moments with butterflys landing on someone in your group. Definate must visit place when in Victoria
Coming from someone who had little interest in visiting the Butterfly Gardens, I was absolutely blown away. They have a wonderful selection of tropical plants to go along with many species of butterflies/moths, parrots, fish, flamingos, turtles and tortoises, etc. It's a great place to visit late Winter or early Spring when the weather is getting you down - the warmth and humidity is welcome!
Fun place to visit some butterflies and some other wonderful creatures.
Great place to visit with kids. Lots of butterfly
Absolutely worth the visit. Kids would love this place. It's small but very well maintained and staff is really friendly.
Amazing place to be! Well managed and taken card off!
Really cool place to visit for all ages. Different insect collections as well as the main butterfly garden which is beautiful and peaceful. Staff very informative and friendly.
Well worth a visit if you're on the island. Check on Groupon for a discount.
A fun experience for seeing butterflies, birds and tortoises in the open. Do visit this place on your way to Victoria
This place is always great. Staff is nice and knowledagble. Lots of different animals for everyone to see. My kid loves this place. Will always go back
It's warm in there; wear a T-shirt. Well displayed and lots to see. Plan for 1-1.5 hours. The Macaw is really social. He says "hi" too. Will visit again.
Lots of fun with the grandkids. Very educational!
Great fun for kids
Relaxing and beautiful. Must visit :)
Wonderful place that has a good mission for animal rescue and advocacy. Butterflies are gorgeous, we found a ton of caterpillars amongst the foliage. Seems very natural and find tinted tuned for each species to live as close to a natural life as possible.
Beautiful gardens. So many other insects and animals. Not just butterflies
A nice family friendly experience. There are a few insectariums near the entrance with some fascinating leafcutter ants, beetles, stick bugs and scorpions. That was my favorite part because the bugs camouflaged so well with their surroundings. The main attraction was an enclosed space with tons of butterflies flying all over. There were also flamingos tortoises an iguana and a few parrots. There are 2 areas where you can see a bunch of butterflies feeding on rotting fruit. The actual walk around the enclosed attraction takes about 20 to 30 min with lots of photo ops. You can get great close ups of butterflies and they will land on the ground leaves or your clothes. There aren't thousands of butterflies but at least a couple hundred that you can see flitting about. There are moths about to hatch in cages and I saw a gecko too. The price was kind of expensive which was the only downside. And it was extremely hot and humid inside. There are racks to hang up your jackets though. Camera lenses will fog up.
We get family passes every year, Kids love it and it's a great activity for rainy days. There was a man there cleaning out the tarantula enclosure last time and my daughter was so curious asking 20 questions, he was so patient with her, told her to look inside and explained what he was doing, it was really nice of him to take the time.
Worth the price. So many beautiful butterflies and plants. You also get to see flamingos and tortoises. And if your lucky and patient a butterfly might just come sit on you.
Butterfly Gardens is my favorite tourist attraction ! All the beautiful creatures and Butterflies are moving to watch in the environment. Very friendly staff and great for little kids.
Beautiful gardens with lots of butterflies and fish. A great way to kill a little time, but not a main outing, as we walked through in about 20 minutes.
This place is a beautiful oasis! Cant believe I didn’t know about it sooner! Highly recommend and will be back, great vibes!
Lots of lovely butterflies, as well as some flamingoes and parrots. Great for little kids. Tropical temperature...
My partner and I went here and we both enjoyed it. It was especially great to see more than butterflies, there were exotic birds, turtles, frogs, and even an iguana! Not as big as I'd expected, but none the less a nice place to visit.
This was a side trip after coming back from Butchart Gardens with our toddler. I was a bit cherry to drop any more money on this excursion. The building looks pretty unremarkable from the parking lot. Then you go inside and it looks just as cheap. We almost turned around and got back in the car but kept going. I'm glad we did. Lots of unusual insects on display by the entry then you work your way to the main exhibit hall, which is filled with butterflies, exotic moths and some tropical animals. Our toddler enjoyed watching the koi fish and commenting on the massive tortoises. Lots of beautiful butterflies. If you can handle the walk from your car to the door without your coat, leave it in the car. You won't need it once inside.
A wonderful spot. Clean. Well organized. Great staff. Beautiful inside. Doesn’t have that tropical ‘stink’ that can happen in facilities that aren’t kept up well. Great exhibits and displays. Expect to spend about an hour or so here.
Beautiful butterflies and birds.
Smaller than I expected, but still had a wonderful collection of butterflies and animals. This is a great place for families.
Awesome, great for the kid in you. And the children will love it too. ????????????????
It was a memorable and lovely visit. She said yes!
Beautiful place with very friendly staff! Will definitely be going there again.
Nice small collection of insects and butterflies, but it's overpriced. The whole garden is bound in an area about 1200 square meters.
Fun experience for young and old
Don't miss this lovely place! We visited on a cold day in February, and it was like taking a mini-vacation to the tropics. The Leaf-cutter Ant display alone is worth the visit, and the butterflies and parrots were wonderful. Keep your eyes open for the turtles, and the iguana. But my favorite part was the friendly Eclectus parrot.
Lots of animals to go see! Not just butterflies!
Wonderful place! So many beautiful butterflies and cool stick bugs if you like creepy crawlers! The parrots like girls, to warn but they are very gentle and friendly ☺️
Truly wonderful experience. Great for adults and children.
Great place to relax and watch, butterflies, birds, parrots, turtles, fish, iguanas, more turtles, more butterflies:) It's pretty warm inside, very tropical paradise... So leave your heavy jacket inside the vehicle. Beautiful place for the whole family!
Absolutely magical. The insectorium is amazing. I could have watched the leaf cutter ants for hours.
Always a different experience . One that never disappoints.
This place was pretty nice, admission was sorta steep for the amount of walk around time you have. The butterflies were cool and the other animals, had seen a dozen roaches scurrying around on the floor, which I suppose is expected since the inside is a tropical environment.
One of the best butterfly houses i have ever been to. Gorgeous butterfly's parrots, lizards and flamingos all running and flying free. The entrance fee is minimal for what is offered and the centre itself is easy to find 10/10 .
You can't miss this place whenever you visit Victoria.
Really loved our visit. The insectarium is small but really interesting. It appears to be a new addition and is well laid out and informative. The butterflies are lovely and again the garden is well laid out and very informative. Reasonable value for money for a very good visitor experience.
Great family activity.
Such an amazing place, perfect environment for these exotic butterflies. Very friendly stuff, I've learned a lot ????
Enjoyed my time here, more than just butterfly's although they remain the highlight.. Ended up with one in my hair
It's a small place but there's a lot going on. Butterflies are fluttering around, fruit is left out so you can get a good look while they're eating. One parrot seemed a bit cranky with people stuffing cameras in it's face so do be respectful of the animals.
This was our last stop on our victoria trip, and it was a great one! Definitely reccomend to anyone with kids. So soo many butterflies. They have a whole section of different stages of them aswell. Only thing I wish there was a guide to tell us about some of the things.
This humble garden, tucked away in an unassuming plaza, actually contains a tropical wonderland filled with many species of butterfly, some tropical birds, turtles, and tropical plants. …
Very unique experience, nice to do with kids. It takes about 45min to an hour to see it
Victoria butterfly gardens is a slice of Heaven. It was like stepping into a fantasy Paradise. The cased insects were out of this world. Very fascinating. So well worth the visit and very inexpensive
Very beautiful inspects, butterflies, and some birds. Must see
I came here for the first time last week and it was really cool! It was interesting to see all the different types of butterflies and other animals all within one building. It was nicely laid out and very warm inside which was a nice break from the weather outside. We can’t wait to come back!
Butterflies everywhere, but also flamingos, poison dart frogs and parrots. Ladies! Spend some time with Little E, a gorgeous Eclectus (sp?) Parrot. He loves the ladies and will cuddle.
It was fantabulous experience, especially for kids it is good way of learning and educate them about nature and beauty of nature . You will see butterflies, turtle , parrots ,flamingo and many more .
The insect glass displays are fascinating and allow you to see strange insects in something akin to their natural environment. The leaf cutter ants are especially interesting. The greenhouse is the best part though, with all the butterflies and birds roaming around. Make sure you find one of the caregivers who has a free minute and ask them questions, they love telling you about the animals.
Nice concept. It is damn humid in there so make sure you wears something cool and light.
Great experience! They've put clear signage and expectations in place for their Covid19 safety protocols. It made for a relaxing and enjoyable visit. TONS of butterflies for the kids to see and enjoy!
Its a lovely place, warm and with many creatures to visit.
The butterflies were OK. But I had the most fun watching the ant display in the insectarium. The ants were carrying bits and pieces of plants for 17 meters to their fungal nest. It was amazing as well as very fun to watch.
Beautiful butterflies, and the ants when you first walk in are fascinating! ❤️
I have known about this attraction for so many year and just finally made the trip from Campbell River to visit. I was amazed at how many creatures are here! Parking is free. If you are in before they close, they will stay open until visitors are finished. The insect museum part was very interesting as well. It is very humid. There is a coat rack to hang your stuff.
Great Place to take your kids to see Butterflies. Staff are very friendly.
Must see! Lots of beautiful butterflies!
Fun place for the family, only wish it wasn't so crowded.
The Butterfly Gardens are amazing & a must see! I had a great time and will go back the next time I'm in the area! The insect displays are worth a see as well!
Kids loved it.
I just love this place. Nature's overlooking
Wow, if your looking for something to do, you have to visit the Victoria Butterfly Gardens. There were butterflies everywhere you looked. All sorts of different shapes sizes and colours. Some of them will even land on you. As well, the different plants, birds, insects and reptiles there are really neat to see. One thing to keep in mind is that the climate is like a tropical rainforest. So dress lightly because it is very humid and quite warm inside. I'll definitely have to go back someday. Highly recommend!
It's a lovely colourful spot just dress warm!
Looks small.on the outside, it is bigger on the inside! Huge variety of butterflies, months, but also small stunning gem frogs, parrots, tortoises, along with tons of different flowering bushes, trees, including a lily pond. Also two waterfalls and two Bridges! Just gorgeous tropical garden and very educational. And outside garden huge bug area too!
Neat place. Lots of butterflies and insects.
Stopped by after visiting buchart gardens. We spent about 20 minutes here. Unique experience with turtles, tucans, various insects, and of course butterflies.
The butterfly gardens is a wonderful attraction. All of my kids love going there and watching the variety of creatures, especially the tortoises!
The turtles are birds were awesome. The bugs were really cool also. I was dissapointed in a lack of butterflies. Not very many or great colors. We enjoyed ourselves a lot, but it was lacking for a butterfly house
I haTE BUTRTERFLY !!
A wonderful experience, if you are in Victoria I feel this is a must see. The insect displays they have before the garden itself is great, the ant displays are my favorite.
Wonderful experience! So humid inside, it's like a tropical paradise ☀ the birds, turtles and most of all the butterflies are a marvel to see, I feel very lucky living near this place!
Wonderful place for adults and children. Plenty of Butterflies... You never know when they might land on you. Also, look for the two Iguanas, also two beautiful Flamingos.
This is my absolute favorite butterfly gardens, aside from the butterflies they have an interesting bug section (behind glass, no fear!), Coi fish, turtles and tortoises, lizards and an iguana and the real stars of the show - the flamingos ❤
Last month I took my girlfriend now fiance to the butterfly gardens to propose to her. I emailed Ronalena the general manager prior to coming to ask for any advice or additional information given that neither of us have ever been there before. She described the layout and had some suggestions of nice places to propose. To go above and beyond she was able to get one of her staff members to be in the area and snap some beautiful pictures of us that we will be able to cherish for a lifetime. Thanks again to Falon for her great pictures and professionalism. Thank you to the whole staff there and we look forward to visiting whenever we are on the island for years to come.
Beautiful experience. Absolutely a must visit
We had an amazing time!!! Our kids loved it and we enjoyed seeing all the other plants and animals too.
A great experience. Plenty of diversity. Many different birds and butterflies. Turtles and insects as well. And if you look closely you just might find a flamingo!
This was a high quality experience. Everything was terrific: the plants, butterflies, insects and birds. Parking was free and easy, bathrooms were nice, and staff was friendly and helpful.
A lot of kind of butterflies and insects here.
I really enjoyed this place! I would say it's a tropical area so it's really humid and warm so be ware. For younger kids this could be a flop as its a lot of staring/looking. For older kids very interested, tons of info posted and opportunity to learn!
Just wonderful! You interact with insects, birds. It is super well maintained. A wonderful ride to go with children
Fantastic little spot not far from Brutchart Gardens. A bit pricey but the money goes to a good cause as most of the insects are indangered or are becoming increasingly rare. Exhibit includes butterflies the roam free, parrots, turtles and many coy fish. Highly recommend it. Kids will love it too!
My 8 year old daughter and I had a great time. It's small and you only need about an hour to fully check everything out.
Great place for the kids. We visited this place October, the staff were friendly. It's a great idea to have the coat hangers outside but I almost lost my daughter's jacket. Another kid had my daughter's jacket on. Glad we got there in time. So just be careful with your jackets. Maybe if you have a stroller, take them with you as you can't really wear them in the "tropical part" where the butterflies are. Great place and very educational. Oh! Most interesting are the items they sell. My niece from California loved them. I couldn't take a picture of her and her dad eating the crickets but they liked them :-)
I loved this place! A really fun place to visit if you are in the area. It's got a great variety of butterflies, frogs and parrots.
Absolutely love coming here to enjoy the butterflies, birds, lizards, flowers and even flamingos. Beautiful enclosure for the butterflies that is kept at a tropical climate so you do not need a jacket inside. Wise to bring a sweatrag or hand fan if you get easily overheated. Great spot for spending a few hours in Victoria if you love wildlife.
A great place to take the family. We had fun looking at the many types of insects. The butterflies and insects were super cool. The flamingos were so colorful .It was a very hot & humid environment which is necessary for the bugs. We spent about 1 hr there.
You go through the front room with interesting bugs and a huge ant colony. Then enter an absolutely magical rain forest with hundreds of butterflies, turtles, flamingos, small lizards, and a koi pond/ river that runs through the whole room. Very cool!
If you like Slow walks in parks looking at Flowers than this is the ultimate experience for you. But if you coming from hot countries or area where flowers are very common, than it's a good place for 1 time visit. But the work done by the curators is amazing as the flowers r from diff parts of world. But don't visit victoria just 4 this , u might find it not worth the move spent. if you can get ur hands on bike or even car I would suggest go explore the island instead, and visit if when u going back. As u can spend rest of hours here before leaving. Oh and there's nice place to eat here, And tea ice cream etc were very tasty with good price too. Give it a try.
Victoria Butterfly Gardens is a lovely tropical gem located just a short ride north of the City of Victoria. The garden has a wonderful collection of tropical plants, butterflies, frogs, flamingos, and other tropic birds and ducks. It is well worth the drive if you are in the Victoria, B.C. area. I give Victoria Butterfly Gardens a 5 Star excellent rating. By Gregg L. Friedman MD
Amazing Experience for kids:)
This was a GREAT experience! Our 4.5yr old was so excited!!
Second time visiting. We wanted to stop by and visit 'Lil E, the eclectus parrot. Always a nice place to see while in Victoria.
The Insectarium had its grand opening this weekend!
Was a great adventure, beautiful butterflies and interesting insects with a dash of birds and reptiles! All around great fun on a Sunday!
Not a bad way to spend an hour. It was a little pricy for the experience. I do like the birds in the enclosure though.
Cool insect, arachnid, and other displays before going into the main gardens. However, once inside the only cool things available that the Butterfly Gardens in Coombs doesn't have are a couple of flamingoes and iguanas. Otherwise the Coombs Gardens have equal variety and beauty as well as being more affordable as far as price of admission goes. Only worth entry with a Groupon. But for locals could be more worth it than the trip to Coombs. I could see it being if I were local. Being in Nanaimo I wouldn't make the trip back for it.
A lot more fun then you might think. Butterflies flying around you, birds chirping away. Tortoise and turtles. Just be ready for it to be hot and humid.
Fantastic! Myself, my husband, our 1.5 year old and FIL enjoyed a lovely time together
My son and his family joined me at Butterfly Gardens on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend His twin 5 y.o. girls and his 3 y.o. were totally enraptured with the jingle livestock they encountered. The boy was running thru the pathways coz he didn't want to miss anything. At one point we had to grab him from almost falling in trying to touch the native Koi fish!
The Victoria Butterfly Garden is a great stop on the way to Butchart Gardens. An hour is more than enough time to see the exhibits and explore the butterflies. Perhaps the most interesting part of this place is the any habitat that explains how the ants are essentially fungus farmers! The butterfly space might be bigger, but the information is good
Staff very friendly. Beautiful exhibition.
Small but very nice
This is a great warm spot to take kids for an educational and fun trip. It took us about an hour to walk through, chat and take in the animals.
Beautiful and informative, more than just butterflies!
I loved it my kids loved it, I'll go back again next time in there
My children and I loved this place. I would recommend it
Awesome!!!!! Yes, even very awesome!!! The butterflies are amazing!!! Not only the butterflies, but you will thoroughly enjoy the insect / bugs display in the front area leading to the Butterfly Garden. The ant display is one of the highlights!!!
It was okay not what we expected. Not tooo many butterflies any where. So I'm sorry to give a low star. ????????????????????????
We loved it here! So many things to discover.
awesome experience for all ages! my 1.5 year old loved it, he would have happily spent hours wandering in circles if we let him. we bought a season pass.
Great vacation experience. The garden isn't huge, but it's loaded with all kinds of butterflies and other creatures. There are parrots, iguanas, frogs, koi, turtles, and even flamingos. It's a great place to go with your kids.
We loved it! My daughter drained the battery on my phone taking so many pictures! ????
We loved this place! Watch for butterfly escape artists when you leave. They also had a fun exhibit on insects, like the bug zoo.
My 1.5 year old son really loved the experience! Any family with young kids would enjoy this!
My children and I loved this place. I would recommend it
The timing was on the website is wrong. They were closed (won't let anyone enter after 3) and we were there at 3.10. They said they are open until 4 but no one can enter after 3. We drove 45 mins just to go and see it is close. They should update the timing on the website.
It's a fairly small place. But they have a lot of great stuff there.
This place is a tropical oasis anytime of the year. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great for anyone.
My husband and I recently took our nine year old son here and we all enjoyed it. The staff were friendly. The insectarium was awesome. We loved all of the the tropical plants. It was neat to see all of the butterflies and birds flying around. It was also quite an educational experience as well. I will definitely go back again sometime and I would recommend checking it out.
Beautiful pictures.
Beautiful little garden with a lot of butterflies, turtles and insects. It is like tropical experiences. Parrots are friendly. Staff was nice and great selections of gifts.
Great place to bring kids and guests.
Amazing Experience for kids:)
Loved it Nature's is always beautiful
It was nice especially on a rainy day since it's indoor. However, it's relatively small. You wouldn't spend more than an hour there. It's also more than just butterflies which was a pleasant surprise.
Amazing park! 100% worth to visit
This place was much better than I anticipated was well worth the effort
Expect the unexpected!! So much beauty and joy.
Lovely place, enjoy a tropical day any day!
Lots more to see than butterflies. That said there are a lot of amazing butterflies flying free, so you can get up close and maybe they'll land on you.
Loved it! Very well done!
A must see place if you ever visit Victoria. The butterfly garden is gorgeous!
It's sad when they put two flamingos in a tiny sanctuary made for butter flies. Very depressing to see. They looked timid and lifeless and there was no natural sunlight as well they cannot fly indoors in such a small space. I would not recommend coming here.
This is the first time I have visited this place despite living on the island for many years. A definite must see if you have kids or are like me and love tropical plants. Besides the beautiful butterflies, they have turtles, carp, macaws and parrots, a flamingo and more. It's humid inside so wear breathable clothing.
My kids love this place! It’s not very big but our kids still spent a couple hours in there hoping a butterfly would land on them. However, I would definitely make sure to wear closed toed shoes if you don’t like cockroaches. As unlike some of the other butterfly gardens we’ve been to like in Seattle or Vancouver there are many cockroaches, some being quite large. Just an FYI for people that have a fear of cockroaches like myself lol.
Love going to the Butterfly Gardens it's always a wonderful experience!!
Bang for the buck! Beautiful place..
Loved it. Our excursion from the cruise line only allowed 30 minutes here, which seemed too short to me. I could have easily spent much more time. Small but packed with beautiful butterflies, moths, birds, turtles, insects (inside).
So many interesting things to see, it was a fun and memorable experience for the whole family. We got an annual pass and hope to come back plenty!
Beautiful facility! Educational and ebtertaining
Beautiful garden . Loved the very friendly parrot. We would definately go again .
Fun place, too warm hehe
Lots of beautiful butterflies, and not too crowded.
Small but very nice
Neat place. Lots of butterflies and insects.
Super fun place, went there during the be a tourist in your own town event so it was a bit more crowded, but still so fun to see all the butterflies and other animals.
Great place to bring your toddler(s). Butterflies, birds, and fish!
Beautiful. I was surprised they didn't have the geckos on the list of animals
Beautiful attraction. The butterflies are only half of the draw here. The miniature tropical jungle is at least as cool. Three are all kinds of exotica flora to see. With the warm, humid air, it's easy to imagine you're really there.
A magical place to visit. We loved it.
Wonderful greenhouse type complex where you can walk freely around and see some interesting insects, butterflies and birdlife and flowers..very relaxing
Great experience. The exhibits were interactive and extremely educational. Highly recommend as a quick activity to do. Beautiful Pictures to take :) and one of the birds landed on my wife for some great pictures.
If you have a child that loves Butterflies this is a must visit. Not only do they have an amazing diverse selection of species which will fly around and land on you but there are several friendly parrots that will visit you while sit and drink in the beauty of the indoor eco system they have created at the Butterfly Garden. Do not miss out on the unique experience.
Usually love this place but if you value your personal health and safety during Covid 19, I would 100% avoid. They claim they have precautions set in place to ensure social distancing but this is entirely untrue. It was an absolute free for all. Will not be back due to this disappointing response during a worldwide pandemic.
A unique place to visit. Both great for family visit and or dates. Very friendly with fantastic safety precautions setup, everything seemed to flow nicely with next to no rush. Would recommend a gander atleast once.
Loved the "ant conveyor"!
This was awesome. Kids loved it. Plenty of interaction with wildlife. Butterflies land on you. Birds fly overhead. We even saw a bird come over to a lady and it perched on her hand. There's iguanas and turtles and a flamingo and a duck and a bunch of fish. The place isn't huge but we walked around a couple of times. Worth the money.
Its a lovely place, warm and with many creatures to visit.
A hot and humid insect experience.. we had quite a good time in this attraction. The cool bugs at the start to the main attraction dome filled with life. A must stop if you have kids or are a real nature lover.
Had no idea what to expect but this place was awesome. While. Not huge in size, it packed a punch when it comes to things to check out. The parrots were sweet.
Super cool for kids. And more than just butterflies.
Such a fun experience!
for adults probably only an hour or so of fun, but it's beautiful and humid, a nice stop before or after the winery next door. I didn't realise that they also have birds and reptiles here. felt fairly covid-safe.
Gorgeous garden, many butterflies, wonderful experience
So beautiful and amazing! I will definitely be back!
I am embarrassed it to took me years to visit. It defines tranquility and delights every sense. Go. Breathe it all in. You deserve this.
Beautiful little garden with a lot of butterflies, turtles and insects. It is like tropical experiences. Parrots are friendly. Staff was nice and great selections of gifts.
Very nice place, great for kids to learn the tropical plants and animals. Butterfly garden is kindly misleading, they should be called tropical garden/zoo.
What a great place to go on a cold rainy day! Beautiful place with especially friendly parrots.
Incredible collection of plants, butterflies and non- native insects and a variety of poison dart frogs!!
Amazing place! We had so much fun! You could spend a while here!
This place was nice, but smaller than I expected. It's great for small children. We went on our way to Butchart Gardens and had an hour, we saw the whole place in less than 30 minutes. They sell snacks, but no food. It would be better if they at least had a sandwich shop or something. There is a good restaurant across the road though. The gift shop is as big as the butterfly area.
There are so many beautiful plants, flowers, butterflies, and other wildlife in the facility. The bug room is very neat as well. A great spot for tourists and locals to visit.
Great place to bring the grandkids on a rainy day. So many butterflies and other attractions. Highly recommend!
It was both educational and entertaining. Definately worth the effort.
Lots of butterflies. The insect section is great too. Some butteries will even land on you especially if you wear a bright shirt. Kids loved it.
A small but very cool display of bugs before entering the gardens where you will see lots of exotic flowers, butterflies, turtles and birds. Wear light clothes as it is very humid in there!
It was worth the visit. Would recommend it to all ages.
A spectacular facility to see various butterflies, parrots, turtles, flamingo and frogs. Great learning facility for kids.
Is is a beautiful setting with lots of butterflies, plants, water features, and assorted animals, birds, and reptiles. It gives you an amazing up close look. It is smaller than we thought, and a bit too expensive. A good one time experience.
I enjoyed my visit to Victoria Butterfly Gardens very much. I highly recommend it.
The most magical place. It's small but its soooooooo magical. I dont even have children but it really brings out the magic in nature . Love this place. Wish there was a guide to explain things though.
Nice butterfly gardens. I may be spoiled a bit because I have been to so many butterfly gardens, but it was nice. What made this place awesome tho was the birds. There is this one bird who I made friends with. It said "hello" when I was watching some turtles. And when I went over to it we hung out. It danced for me a little to. And then someone saw us and wanted to see the bird but bird didn't invite THAT person over, so it squalked at them all scarey, and I got to hang out with bird friend alone. My partner was embarrassed to be with me lol They also have turtles and a cool window where you can watch the hatching dry thier wings
You can't miss this place whenever you visit Victoria.
More than butterfly's. There is a small exotic bug exhibit, A large ant colony you can watch like a massive ant farm. Inside the gardens are beautiful exotic flowers, Parrots, turtles and tortoises, fish ponds and a small frog display. My 2 daughters both enjoyed enjoyed it. One is elementary school aged and the other is a toddler.
A lovely, interesting little place to visit. Yes it’s small, but there’s life all around you to watch and observe. Just take a sit and enjoy it for a while!
Nice and small indoor garden
My granddaughter loves this place. Lots of other animals besides butterflies.
My family and I are very happy to have visited such a beautiful place. You will definitely like the friendly team and unforgettable atmosphere. looking at this beauty of nature I understand how everything is complicated and very simple at …
This was a great experience! So many butterflies, as well as insects, koi and turtles, tortoises, flamingoes, macaws, lots of lovely plants... I really enjoyed it here.
Sufficient parking, handicap accessible. Gift shop, butterfly garden is a very warm sauna. Butterflies, parrots, iguana, turtles, tortoises, time lizards, flamingos, duck, Koi, bugs, spiders, and more. Short distance from Victoria but easily found.
Indoor tropical rainforest. Best place to go for chic pictures with butterflies in the hair. P.S the macaws dont appreciate humans making monkey noises at them (we got yelled at by a magnificent bird)
Fun place, too warm hehe
So beautiful and amazing! I will definitely be back!
Felt like walking into a warm jungle.
An amazing experience with butterflies flying around in a very organic environment. Must visit if you are in Victoria.
This is a very neat little place. The insectarium is different, allowing you to see a variety of insects up close (but still behind glass). The butterfly garden itself is much more than just butterflies, as there are numerous birds, turtles, lizards and even a pair of flamingos, and that is just what we saw before my child felt it was time to leave. Very reasonably priced for a very unique experience.
We visited the Vitoria Butterfly Gardens October of 2017. It encorporates an insectarium as well as a large butterfly enclosure with birds, fish and turtles. It was well worth the trip!
Fantastic! Myself, my husband, our 1.5 year old and FIL enjoyed a lovely time together
Very cool for adults or children. There is a lot to see including many butterflies, iguana, flamingos, turtles, parrots, fish, and others. Also some awesome leaf cutter ants, stick bugs, and a bird eating tarantula.
Wonderful exhibits. The new invertebrate area was exciting too see. The butterflies fabulous as always. Also birds, lizards and turtles!
Was so amazing loved every minute of being there. The staff is super great and friendly. Loved seeing all the butterflies.
I loved the place, I was a great experience cuz I love butterfly they remind my of my mom.
Amazing kid friendly activity for rainy day
This place is beautiful! I have been here a few times and it's always a little different and well worth it. The tickets are reasonably priced too. They even have flamingos!
Loved it! So neat to see! Wish there was more rooms, and I could stay for hours!! Recommend!!
A true gem for tourists and locals. You can see wonder in the eyes of the young and old. Very humid, dress accordingly.
Adorable place. Kids loved it! The butterflies garden in Seattle was much bigger, with greater varierry of butterflies, but this place had a greater variety of another type - giant moths, flamingoes, parrots, ducks, and all kinds of other critters to observe. Worth the stop on your way to the Buschardt Gardens.
I loved this place! It was great to see the kids smiling with all the butterflies... And the knowledge that we got was amazing! I recommend to a Sunday trip with family and friends. Worth it!! =)
Amazing place with close-up wildlife experiences.
This "zoo" is amazing. We had a blast even before we entered the main attraction. They have a truly amazing insect display with some very strange bugs such as a bird eating tarantula. When we left the insects and visited the butterfly garden itself, I was amazed by the in-depth displays and the sheer volume of butterflies, bugs, animals, and fish they had in the surprisingly large atrium. Admission was surprisingly cheap and you can stay in the gardens for as long as you like! Super happy with this place, glad we made the trip out to see it.
Really enjoyed the tropical atmosphere. Lots of butterflies and birds to enjoy. Like a mini vacation!
Absolutely love this place. Decently priced to get in. Lots of different butterflies, birds, frogs, bugs, lizards, turtles and more. Plus all of the different plant and flowers are gorgeous. Love it.
The most amazing and relaxing place to go. If a local, and truly love your experience. So worth it to get annual pass which is just double your entrance fee and can upgrade after your visit if you wish to do so. I did and will be back many times. Plus many perks to having annual pass to other places in town. I could spend hours here and plan to with my new pass! Little E parrot loves women, wants to sit on you and give kisses! Has never bitten anyone either! I look forward to spending more time with him!! I'm an huge avian lover.
A well run facility with lots of butterflies, parrots, carp fish, and bugs.
My 2yr old loved it! More than just butterflies. Bugs at beginning are awesome. The in side is stunning and fun to explore. Lots to see from flamingo, plants, turtles, and of course butterflies.
Really great place to spend a cold day looking at nature!
Amazing place! We had so much fun! You could spend a while here!
It was great to have butterflies landing on us. The staff was very friendly and helpful too.
Always a different experience . One that never disappoints.
A nice garden for me as I took a lot of pictures of the butterflies, koi fish, parrots and a pink flamingo.
Very cool place, lots to see and learn and they have a very friendly Bird!
I had an amazing experience here. The highlight of our visit was a parrot named Little E. A lot of the visitors including myself got to hold him. So cool!! The plants are beautiful. The turtles were a nice surprise! And of course the butterflies fluttering around you. The staff were super friendly. Well maintained and clean space. I would definitely come back!
Small and limited number of butterflies. Just good enough. The staff are very accommodating, much better than any Subway store downtown. Do not bring sweater inside for they maintain tropical temperature and ventilation suited for butterflies.
Such friendly staff and babies loved all the animals, birds and new friends
Great value attraction with many butterflies and moths plus tortoise, turtles, mccaws, and other songbirds. A delightful way to spend an hour or two and we'll worth visiting
