REVIEWS OF MacAulay Point Park IN Esquimalt

Bob Edwards

Nice seaside walk with wide paths. Lots of 'out of bounds' areas to preserve a delicate environment, but well worth the visit.

Maxime Vandal

Gorgeous park to walk, being your dog for the off leash little Beach. Great climbing wall with a view and loads of rocks by the water to go to and Sun Tan.

Charles Hervieux

Beautiful sunsets. Nice paths. Nice beaches. Rock climbing allowed along the path. Dog friendly. Nice break water. Boat launch. Tones of parking. Cool old base.

Peter Milne

A very interesting little park with some maritime hisrory. It has been used as a military installation since the late 1800's and then as a defensive position when large guns were installed. These were upgraded after the attach on Pearl Harbor and were maintained for some time after that. Now the guns have been removed and it is a park offering great viewa of the Juan de Fuca straight, the Olympic Mountains and up the coast of the island towards Sooke.

LH ORAVN

Absolutely gorgeous and friendly dogs are always there!!!

CocoaPuff_Motivation

Small but, quaint. Ine beach is hidden during high tide which will be at various times during the day so plan ahead. They have real out door cliff to rockclimb on. I think beginners out door climbing

Kaitlin Woods

Me and my dog both had a great time here, it was beautiful. Also I was surprised to find the historical structures! Super interesting and cocoa loved exploring

Monique Th

This was a gorgeous park with a surprising amount of history.

Shaun Stephan

Always a nice place to go for a walk, and can climb there in the summer time.

Amanda Johnson

Best hidden gem park in the Victoria area. Amazing views of the mountains and over to James Bay. Interesting old military ramparts to climb around, great place to pick blackberries, great off leash park for dogs. Reluctant to even review and tell others about my favourite new discovery :)

Nathan Xal Rice

Such a beautiful place to go for a walk. Neat piece of history as well.

David Scoates

I enjoyed the afternoon sun and gentle breeze. There were tables for picnics, dogs and walkers. A great place for a quiet get away.

Kate Lois Howell

Great place to have a picnic and relax.

nicole alexandra (il6unas)

A small but beautiful space! It has a bit of everything - beach/dock reminiscent of Fisherman's Wharf, views and green space like Dallas Road, a walking area similar to Ogden Point/Breakwater, and old structures like those at Fort Rodd Hill. Being a tiny "free museum" makes this one of the nicest public parks in Victoria to explore if you're into history.

Dave Campbell

Amazing piece of history. Beautiful area for a family walk

Nic Tak (NicTak)

Great little park in Esquimalt. It's also an off leash dog park which means that there are tonnes of dogs running and playing around. I live watching the dogs!! If you are afraid of dogs this definitely would not be a great place to go however, if you love dogs this is a great place.

Svetlana Sukhova

Fantastic summer sunset!

Melanie Reid

Beautiful ocean views in a historic, multi-use park. Access the ocean view trails and off-leash dog area just past the Fleming beach boat launch and picnic area on Buxton Green. Fun spot for rock climbing too.

Dale Dearing

Beautiful view out across Juan de Fuca Strait to Olympic????????Mountains.

Marcy C

This is a busy boat launch with a great dog park, climbing wall and historically relevent hiking paths. There's also a picnic area and beach access.

Andrew McGrath

My favourite park for a good view of the water. Often where i walk the dog in the evening. Great spot to see seals at the docks by the entrance.

kari anne

Best place to take your dog for a walk....or your partner and kids. Beautiful views and off leash after the first little beach.

V.I. Outdoors

Love this park and the history. Great oceanside trails and views. Ww1 and ww2 remnants still within the park.

tobeamongstanimals

This is a nice little gem -- quick walk around, historical, a couple of view points. Unique view of downtown. Always a lot of dogs and dog walkers (which, personally, I love).

Jacob Tamman

Very nice place to go for a walk in these times, plenty of space to distance from others and stay safe.

Teagan Gosling

Brilliant park with some seriously neat battlements (former CFB battery, designed for WWII, but never once saw any action). Highly recommended for both locals and tourists alike. Free too, unlike Fort Rodd Hill.

ken rosadiuk

When I lived in Victoria, this was my favourite little dog walking location or chill stop on the way home from work. There's a protected bay with 2 jetties for the boats club members, and always a boat or two coming or going or cleaning thier catch of salmon. There are a few harbour seals lingering for scraps that you can see almost daily. There is a natural climbing or bouldering wall surrounding the perimeter and paved foot path. There's a nice grassy picnic area that is supposed to be on-leash (that nobody listens to), as well as a large off leash area.

Christina Williams

Amazing off leash dog park! I have two small fur babies and never have any issues with bigger dogs. Humans are respectful and thought full at this park! One of our favorites

Garry Mchady

With great walking trails for you and the dog, this park also has some amazing history to it. Great place to walk and take in some views and history.

Ryan Petersen

Just a plain, simple green space park but it's nice to visit to get away from town.

Douglas Walker

It's a beautiful place but... You used to be able to run around and play all over this park, including the grassy areas and in amongst the bushes and trees. Now it's all of limits, and dogs are running lose everywhere instead of kids playing. It's a bit of a disappointment.

Bryce Dombrowski

Beautiful scenery and great after-work climbing. Make sure you sign the waiver and pay the fee if you want to climb though!

Dionne LoForte

Safe for the dogs, lots of space for social distancing and great options for different kinds of walks or beach time

G M

Lovely park for strolling and looking out at the ocean vessels and the ocean life. Great information about Fort Macaulay, the Gun Emplacements, Buxton Green and Flemming Beach.

Pauline McFadden

It is such a Beautiful place for a walk. The views are amazing.Fresh ocean air is envigorating. There are benches where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful views.Dogs love it too.I highly recommened a walk there

Txomin Hermosilla

Nice coastal park featuring some air defense artillery structures. It can get really windy

Jenn Elliott

Love kayaking out to Harrison Island and hanging out with the curious sea pup

Steve Legg

Nice walk with views of Victoria and Olympic range

A P

Very nice walk way, but people with baby strollers are a bit agressive and some folks walking in more than twos, take up the whole space when passing by.

Kiran Prince

Best place to have a walk by the ocean amongst the remains of an old fort. Theres a view point high up the hill from where the view is just breathtaking.

Terzah Horton

Small neghborhood park on the water in Esquimalt. The main area contains a boat ramp which is heavily used. The walk along the beach is great and you can get down to the rocks on the water if you desire. The park is on loan from Fort Macau let and there are several decommissioned gun turrets to view and climb on. At the east end of the park is a beautiful view of the Inner Harbor and you can watch cruise ships come in and out of port. The park is small; I tried to do a run there but ran out of trail; would try running along Westbay walkway instead.

Matt Savola

Great place to let your dog run off leash

Gianna Kim

Loved the scenery but no one was wearing masks and it was impossible to keep 2m away from people

Weier Zhou

Beautiful sunset!

Leila Andraos

That seagull smelled my pizza and wanted to share it with me???????????? so he came, stationned himself on the hood of my car and watched me eat????????????????

bébé cheeses

One of Victoria's most overlooked parks, that has an abundance of interesting and historical military structures and artifacts. A great place for an afternoon stroll with some great views!

Rodrigo Feracini

Awesome park with some amazing ocean views. Easy access and well maintained and wide paths. A perfect social distancing spot :)

Jimmy yediaz

Old fort ruins and great views

Robin M

Beautiful park on the coast in Esquimalt, Vancouver Island. Old gunnery platforms from the 2ww makes for a fun walk through. Two dock to put your boat, kayak, etc into the ocean. Lots of people walking along the paths next to the seaside. Alot of dog walker, dome on leash and some not. Most oqners seem respectful. One dog did come up to me a bit quick and gave me a sniff.

Judith Olsen

Disappointed. We used to enjoy the parking facing west especially for sunset. The benches are bird poop attractors. The Feng Shui is blocked with the ugly fencing. It was more natural before.

Matthew Freitag

Coolest park ever! There are old, defunct military bunkers and trenches for kids to play in, as well as a fun tunnel and some information boards for history buffs. The best part about the park is that there are still scenic trails and gorgeous viewpoints.

Morgan Davies

Another amazing spot in Vic. Walk the rocks or just sit and take it all in

A M

Been coming here since I was only a few days old my mom used to bring me here my whole childhood, then as a teen it was my oasis and still is as an adult wonderful dog park beautiful beach and really cool old military base

Jen Blake

Beautiful park with fantastic views... You can even watch the boats and planes coming in and out of the harbor. Sat for sunset looking for wildlife out at sea.

Dylan Benson

MacAulay Point Park is beautiful, with a lot of trails to explore, and structures to see. It’s got fantastic views of the city and the ocean, and it’s a great place to walk your dog.

Haley Parkhill

Great place to take your pets for a stroll! Lots of parking and a nice gravel path for walking. Beach access at multiple points, including a boat launch & dock. There are also some interesting old bunkers and jail cells on the pathway and a tunnel up to a lookout point that is pretty nice.

Jess Gibbard

A great park to look at historic military bunkers, and a beach. With docks, rock climbing and lots of paths this is the best park in the city.

Regis Denefle

Again, a wild place around Victoria, very easy to access, gorgeous and (usually) not overrun by people. Great West, Northwest viewpoint with spectacular mountains across the straight, and a feel for the force of the ocean.

Sammy Kent

Beautiful sunsets and off-leash areas for dog walking. Lots of parking near the boat ramp.

Moshe A

I love taking my dog here! Gorgeous trails, lots of room for the dog to run and climb, beautiful ocean views.

Dennis Zarelli Jr

Its a historic heritage park that is used as a dog park. View old military buildings and learn local history from interpretative signs. Great view points. Wear good footwear as it can get mucky in the wet months.

Natasha Harms

Interesting spot to see some of the remaining structures.

Andrew Koehn

An amazing Off-Leash Dog Park on the southern tip of Vancouver island This coastal trail is partially-paved and highlights outstanding multiple views of significance. Macaulay Green Park and Picnic Area features Fleming Beach, stellar views of Victoria's Inner Harbour, Metchosin, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca/Port Angeles USA. The diversity of the eco-system and geographical formations you will see here means that you should bring the best camera you have, without question. The winding, multiple paths highlight some park-integrated WWII bomb shelters and Western Seaboard Defence installation remains. Another interesting perk of your visit could be the challenging +90 degree rock climbing face that is located directly beside the Fleming Beach ocean boat launch where you can catch Dungeness Crab near the Launches protective breakwater. Definitely worth the effort. MPP is near the Westward Saxe Pointe Park and also features a unique Coastal Green Area and Off-Leash Dog Park and stunning views. Unfortunately, at both these parks, many irresponsible owners may have unneutered pets at large and not pick up their own dog's feces. Be careful to avoid these types of pet owners as they do their best to spoil this heavenly area.

Colin Roberts

incredible beautiful views plus historical landmarks you can climb. share time with a friend or just be with yourself. i think either way you'll leave better off for having been.

Travis Biltzan

Best off leash dog park on the ocean in Victoria ! Beautiful views, pathways & fun post-war bunkers to walk around with the dog!

Tailspin Tannis

Perfect place to go to sit and watch the boats launch, walk your dog (on leash) and just enjoy the ocean, without having roads full of traffic right behind you. Also, if you're into history, there are some old military barracks and turrets …

Scott Robertson

One of the best off-leash dog parks I've been to in Greater Victoria. Great views as you walk around, and you can let your dog roam around freely for most of it.

Bryan Williams

Nice little park to walk through. Appears to be dog friendly. There is also a boat ramp at this location which asks for a low price for usage and offers a year long pass.

Shaun

Hidden gem in Esquimalt. Heritage navy bunkers to visit but the ocean view is outstanding. Great to bring pets and kids too (little hidden beach over by the boat launch area). Quick 30 minutes to walk around the entire thing (depends on your pace I suppose if you are taking it all in).

Takuma Valcourt

Love this place. I go often to rock climb. The sun faces the walls for most of the day and the trail to the walk up is along the concrete form along the pathway on the left. the rest of the park has old artillery bunkers and other viewing lookouts. There are other small buildings. one can be accessed via ladder( bYOL) theres a hole in the roof...

Rhonda Hilton

I absolutely love walking there. There are wooden areas to walk in, and open ocean view areas as well as historic artifacts! Great place for a walk.

Jannette Lock

Great place to bring the kids and dog on a beautiful sunny day! Lots of trails, beachcombing, climbing, and even a tunnel to run through. Fabulous day!

Mercury Boutin

Incredible sun rise and sundown and best place to walk the dog on a day out.

Cameron Richardson

Beautiful to look at from day or night, paths up to the former gun batteries could use some work. Also a lot of evidence of drinking in the parks, I don't mind it but at least have a crew to pick it up. If going during the day admire the beautiful views and old military infrastructure, if going during the night do the same and have a few drinks, legally, and please recylce of course ????

Eric Joa

One of the nicest ocean side walks ever.

Kyler Greer

Great view, seals regularly show up at the dock, and great rocks to climb

Dana Jackman

Pretty chill place to take your dog for a walk. Occasionally you'll see some climbers on the rocks, and seals during halibut season waiting for scraps from fishermen, who are usually more than accommodating to spectators and teach them about the fish and what they do. Who knew gills had teeth?!

Twisted Crow

Interesting place to look at, trails, meadows, beach, waves and shorline Had a bbq and went for a walk.. Worth a visit

Charlie McCartney (CharlieBomB)

If you go around dusk, and walk along the docks, there's a good chance you will see some seals up close. Bring a fish!

Josh Bilyk

A great local gem rich with history!!!

Candace Galligan

Has some really cool historical buildings. A fun adventure and a look at Esquimalt history

Kenneth Lo

Hidden gem with fantastic views. I am a fan of Fort Rod Hill, but this was an unexpected surprise with great historical relevance (Fort MacAulay). On one side you have a great view of the Breakwater and Fisgard Lighthouse/Fort Rod Hill on the other. Will be back again!

Dilip Kumar J

I love the sunset at this location. Highly recommended for long walks and discussions. It has tables as well which can be used for lunch plans or dinner plans.

Justin Hiscox

Such a wonderful journey through this part of town. S grab your family and enjoy the beauty.

The Epic Lalondes

Very pretty walk, can't believe we've never been here!

Cheryl Johnson

Windy day but still a wonderful area to take a walk on the trails, beach and rocks

Steven Douglas

Dog friendly with a great view of cargo ships and ocean liners coming in to port!

Steven Ma

Fabulous park that we almost missed out on. We were confused by the locked gate and no parking signs every where near the entrance. Glad we took a chance and parked further down the street. The park had lots of pathways leading to the water and along the water. This is a great place to walk your dog and/or enjoy great views of Juan de fuca straight. There are benches along the look outs and even a picnic area. The park signs say the park is only open from dawn to dusk however. Overall a really nice park well worth the visit.

Jafar Kazerooni

One of my favorite parks in Victoria. It has incredible views of the ocean and the Olympic Mountains, historical landmarks and plenty of wild life. Being only 10 minutes by car from Downtown, any tourist should consider checking this place out.

Alex Frohlich

Beautiful park. Good place to walk, launch boats, and watch sunset.

MD Rahman

It is the part of north Pacific Ocean. Amazing place to spend time with friends and family. Nice tourist spot to see this place and ocean from the top hill of this park...

Joyce Pollard

I found a video promoting this park "10 best free things to do in Victoria, B.C." and I was not disappointed. This is a wonderful park with something to see and do for all ages and abilitiesl There are nice hiking trails, the ocean and a nice jetty, plenty of wild life to see - fish, swans, sea lions and I heard that sometimes you can even see whales there. Then there is the history as this was once an military base. We really enjoyed it. I would encourage you to watch the video on Youtube and check out this park when you are in Victoria

Patricia Ross

MacAulay Point Park is an off leash area where I enjoy walking my dog. There are beautiful views of the water and mountains and some historic points of interest. At the entrance of the park there is a natural rock climbing wall and then further along a grassy picnic area with tables. There is also a tiny beach that might be fun for little ones in the warmer months. The park would be difficult to navigate with a stroller as there are many parts of the path that have loose gravel. There are a couple of Harbour seals that can often be spotted near the boat launch waiting for the fishermen's discards. It's fun to look for them.

Meghan Oxenbury

One of our favorite places to walk the dog especially on a nice day.

Grant Berntsen (grantdb)

Nice wide gravel paths and wide open spaces makes this a great park for walking and biking. Found it to be really windy on the day we went. Watch your step as I sure wouldn't want to fall in any of the water filled concrete structures.

Jalo Kuiper

It is a gorgeous place to go for a walk with your dog, a run or a picnic.

Christine Campbell

Lovely place to go for a walk with your puppy. For the variety of dogs it's best to have yours on a leash.

Michaela Kocova

Very peacefull and tranquil place no matter what time of the day. Very popular dog park, picknic area and rock climbing wall. Easy terrain suitable for all ages

Richard Singh

Very cool area to visit! The views were unreal and being able to explore the old military installments added to the charm of the area. I will definitely have to revisit again and explore further

Donna Van Isle Silver Fox

Great view of Juan de Fuca strait and Olympic mountains. A boat launch a little beach, rock climbing wall and historic military bunkers with a walking trail meandering around the point. It's a great place to watch the cruise ships come into the port of Victoria.

Wilf Cootes

I had no idea this was even here. I spent time exploring and loved it.

Chris Boucher

Beautiful place for a walk on a warm sunshiny day

Linda Holland

This little park is one of Victoria's hidden treasures. Beautiful paths through the park and along the rugged shoreline with great views of the outer harbour and Juan de Fuca Straight. There are also a number of old military ramparts, bunkers, lookouts and defensive berms to explore.

Money Bags (Scrooge)

There's a cool tunnel the kids love it

Jay Cole Yoga

A great little walk with a perfect view of the ocean and old war era barracks and what I belive are old cannon turrets to climb on and discover, rooms and entrances have been welded shut to keep people out and safe.

Drena Hill

One of my favorite close to home parks. Ocean, mountains, trails, tunnel, history, seals on most of my visits and gorgeous sunsets. This park has it all.

Natalie Leskie

Best place to catch an ocean breeze on a hot summer day.

PocketDial

Rock climbing there is great. Top roping routes and bouldering traverses are all well conditioned, just stay away from the far right where its marked with a big "X" as that is all loose rock.

Jaclyn Mezei

Very dog friendly and great place to explore by the ocean!

kris rasmusn

They have done a nice job of making this area nice for everyone

Eryn Brett

Beautiful walk with views of the cruise ships coming in. I've seen whales, seals, sea lions, swans and sea birds on this walk. Can be very windy on a not so windy day. About 2 degrees cooler than at home, bring a sweater.

Jack Y

Historic sites. Dogs must be on leash for most of the area. Great area to jog, dog walk, or reflect. I wish there could be more restrooms.

Mark McCready

Beautiful view at sunset. Many dogs running about.

zafar book

Natalie Kelt

A gorgeous park for the whole family - fido included! There's a beach, boat launch, rocks, ocean front, walking trails and lots to explore.

Matthew Gartshore

This park has a lot of history my grandfather use to take me there as a kid he passed away but I still go there to bring all the memories back I am planning a trip soon with my kids and wife and bring them there to show them would …

Anne Marie Weinkauf

Wild and windy, historical structures and views of the sea and city.

Carmen Matthews

Great place for an early morning or sunset walk. Informative signage about wartime defense. Gun turrets to explore. Beach access. Hills, forest and grasslands. Lots of photo ops.

Otho Finch

By far my favourite place in Victoria to walk. It's not to developed, not to busy, has plenty of parking, a beautiful ocean view, a grassy field to sit in, a dock to watch seals from, a climbing wall, cool old military buildings, and it's walking distance to spinnakers.

Courtney M

So beautiful and fun to walk around the ruins of the fort. Great place for a walk on a nice day

Lynne Wozney

Great place to walk. The only draw back ....dog owners who do not pick up after their pets!

Derek L

Nice walking trails and old fort. Kids loved it! View of the ocean is great, some sea life around.

Dianne Lady

Were out doing a geocache. Easy terrain. Lovely views. Great for families as its an easy walk.

Jennierose1979

Beautiful sunrises, dog friendly and an easy walk. Some old barracks and lookouts, really cool place to check out.

Alex W

Sea side trail and greenspace, wrapped around an amazing and seemingly oft overlooked part of Victoria history - anti naval weaponry and guard houses from a time when attacks from the sea was a distinct possibility. Really great for kids, but note that the remains are not kid proofed, so keep an eye out for exposed rebar, stairs without rails, and steep drop offs. An interesting experience for young and old.

Tanis Waher

Beautiful walk and scenery I would highly recommend it and there's areas for children to

Sam Getz

It's a beautiful spot with views of the ocean and the Olympic Mountains, but doing a loop of the park I must have seen and dodged about 20-25 piles of squished, spread out piles of dog poo on the trail. Unfortunately the focus of the walk became, "don't step in dog poo" and my eyes were focused downwards most of the time. What a shame.

Diane Fisher

Loved the history, the little beaches and large lawn with many tables to picnic on. My kid especially loved the tunnel up to the keep!

Rob Walsh

Very nice place to go and ????‍♀️ ????‍♂️ easy inclines with great views.

Sio James

A great location to picnic and watch the kayaks go by.

Lee Frankham

A good place for a scenic walk.

Lisa

Beautiful place to walk, human and dogs and rock climb

Elisa Gonzalez

Lovely point to explore or jut chill out, it's so quite and peaceful, not crowded, definitely a place for a nice relaxing walk!

Jimbo Jumbo

Great park to visit. The breakwater and the park with multiple historic ruins is a must-see in victoria. There is also a dock and boat launch ramp for fishing or boating enthusiasts. The cliffy boulder by the entrance is also ideal for bouldering.

Tim

Beautiful park. Dog friendly. Popular outdoor climbing wall. You get to see boats come in and out. …

Alex Robinson

This is a great spot. It has historical Military significant with nice trails and places to just sit and enjoy the ocean. Small park but worth it!

Bill Ng

Very good park with fish men.and walking around views with Canadian army history.

Will Nikl

Great park, off leash area for dogs. Rock climbing, boat launch, beach, everything you could want in a park.

Lars Hildebrandt

When I die, spread my ashes along the shores of Saxe and Macaulay Point. It's always my go-to for a walk, jog, or place to walk the dog. Rock climbers, storm watchers, dog walkers, young, old, singles and groups. You see all kinds of visitors enjoying the Esquimalt shores any time and in any weather. Never a crowd tho, which is nice. You can have privacy if you need to think, but someone's always there if you want to chat. Great place.

hettiesimpson

Love the view of downtown and Ogden Point, and the sunset towards Saxe Point. If you walk the loop trail it's about a half a mile each time, with a little bit of elevation. if it's your first visit you might get lost with all the little trails but just keep going, you'll eventually get back to the main trail. Lots of dogs off-leash in the off-leash season. Nice place to watch boats, seaplanes, the Coho going across to Port Angeles. Often there are rock climbers bouldering at the Fleming Beach rock face.

chriswpreston

Gorgeous epic views of the ocean and Olympic mountains, dog friendly, boat friendly, and a really great place for a short hike around.

karen lavallie

Love this park. Great tidal pools at low tide. Beautiful walk along the bluff.

Clinton Palmer

Beautiful place to visit, lots of photo and walking opportunities. Beware of dogs off lead but the people are friendly and welcoming.

Kyle Kushnir

Our family loves this park. It's a beautiful, safe place for an off leash dog walk along the ocean. Just be mindful of signs for off leash areas and if/when the beaches are closed

kistey tobiassen

Beautiful walk with our pup,but people seem to completely ignore the on leash laws. We saw dogs jumping over fences that clearly state that the fence is there to protect endangered plants. Other than that is is a very nice walk and the old war time structures sre very cool.
