REVIEWS OF Conference House Park IN Dawson

Josh Pesin

This park has a little of everything. It is at the southern-most tip of Staten Island and has great views of Raritan Bay, especially at sunrise and sunset. There is a nature trail that is well over a mile long. It's mostly flat and great for hiking or trail-running. The trail is varied consisting of dense tree cover and beach terrain. The actual Conference House is a very old structure where a famous event in history occurred. On September 11, 1776, Benjamin Franklin met at the House with Britain's Admiral Howe to discuss peace between the American Colonies and Britain. Obviously nothing came of the talks, but this meeting is an interesting footnote to the early history of the United States. Several times a year during the warm months, the Conference House sponsors free camping events that are open to the public. The Parks Department lends out the camping gear, but it is recommended that individuals interested in camping must sign up online to secure a free tent.

Peaceful, clean and serene for a walk in the park away from the city life.

Lena Chka

Peter Vitale

Eric Sogo

Loriann Maresca

Beautiful park, well kept, and trails are nice. An ocean view too. It's perfect.

Noah Apple

Cool spot, friendly park staff

Daniel Rumbold

Beautiful historical waterfront site where George Washington tried to negotiate the ending of the Revolutionary War before it began. They have many family friend events, horse riding and hiking trails, and a well enough maintained beach where people fish and often (illegally - not recommend sue to Federal/State Rangers often nearby) have bonfires. Great views of Perth Amboy especially at Sunset. They are rebuilding the promenade destroyed during Sandy, further improving a beautiful park. While it is really is a trek compared to most parks considering it's location on the Southern Tip of SI, the beauty and amenities make the trip worth it every time. Great for picnics!

Tony Yu

Very nice comfortable walk through the beach and trails!

Angel Rivera

It's beautiful. Nice place to visit with family or by your own.

Maksim Bogdanov

Brilliant park with a nice historic house. Very few people know about this place and they used to do the inside the house tours for ten bucks and it was very informative, but unfortunately the house is closed due to current circumstances.

Vitaly Ivanov

Great place From the main trail you can either go through the forest, to the beach or the the playground.

Bobbi Marini

I like going when there aren't people around. The last few times I went with my fiance, we were lucky. We only saw one or two people around far from us. We like to go to the beach and watch the sunset, and walk around and take pictures. It's so peaceful and beautiful. Sometimes we spot a family of deer. We stay out of their way so we won't scare them. I love that we can walk around and feel as if we're alone and in another time and place. Kids and adults alike can ride their bikes around the park. Very nice and serene.

Going through some construction currently but still a nice walk with well defined walkways and signs that lead to trails. There are bathroom located near the ample parking lot and on Sundays you can take part in a 3 mile fun run put on by NYRR.

Very nice park. The pear gives visitors a great view.

Local history of Staten Island dating back to Revolutionary War. Staten Island was Tory country and many a local tiff was caused by this. A peace conference was converged in 1776 to end the war.Uh, no luck with that! And as they say the rest is history.

Carrie Williams

Went to this park with the kids today and the views were beautiful. There was maybe a max of 10 people tops....so it was calm and peaceful. Next time we'll bring our chairs to hang a bit longer....beautiful shoreline and the sand was clean.

Lesley Meurer

Wonderful walk to Tottenville Beach and along shore. Nice views of NJ.

Joseph Iacono

This is one of the best parks on Staten Island. Beautiful trails, historic houses and peaceful. Went to open houses today and was amazed by the history of the buildings and this area of Staten Island. Whether you're walking, running or biking you should go to this park.

Kristina Montesano

Really pretty park in a quiet residential neighborhood. You can feel the history as you walk through the woods and stumble upon incredible, well-maintained houses from long ago.

Ron M

Nice park on the south end of Staten Island. Historic Conference house surrounded by a park overlooking Raritan Bay. Great place for a walk or a bike ride with a nice view of the bay. Beautiful sunsets. Very clean and well maintained. Free parking.

Nate Adams

Despite still showing debris some hurricane Sandy this is one of the best parts and best beaches on Staten Island. It is quiet relaxing and out of the way especially on weekdays. It is also a great place to walk your dog or take your kids for a day out and about.

Arko Shatyan

Nice park. Nicely renovated. Historical place. Must visit.

Danny Clearwater

A great place to go on the south shore of Staten Island. The historic Conference House is here, surrounded by a small little park with a viewing platform that overlooks where the river meets the ocean. There are walking trails that loop around into a larger park area. There's a beach nearby that you can access as well. There's street parking and a parking lot nearby.

J Patrick

Must see historical house on the south shore of the borough of Richmond (Staten Island) The grounds are perfect for a picnic and the trails are excellent for a walk. You will see deer! There are a lot of deer on Staten Island and they're here on the south shore inside the Conference House Park! Birds and Flora around. A wonderful place in the NYC area! The Conference House was owned by a Captain Christpher Billopp. On September 11, 1776, British Lord Howe attempted a peace conference to halt the revolutionary war meeting with Benjamin Franklin, Edward Rutledge and John Adams. The 3 hour meeting ended with the Patriots declining Howes offer. The rest is history!

Charles Rice

Mostly clean, on the small side, but one comes here for the deer. Very peaceful place.

Ashley Nicole Torres

Lots of history and beauty at Conference House Park. There is a small garden, where you can find lots of flowers and butterflies. There is also a beautiful boardwalk walkway that leads to a patio of sorts, overlooking the beach and Marina.

Nice park to walk in, not a lot of people come here. Quite and away from busy roads, main trail is paved, but they do have few dirt trails with access to the beach.

Darren Thomas

Picturesque! With pier-styled promenade for events.

This place is so beautiful. It's like stepping back in time. The house on the grounds is spectacular. I stood in front and looked out and could imagine what life was like when it was built. The grounds are well taken care of

Jasmin C (Jazzimon)

Not difficult to get to and the tour was so formative and to the point. House is kept well to reflect 17 and 18 century style furniture. The park is also doable and there is ample parking and access to restrooms

Tamar

Incredible bit of history surrounded by parkland and trails. Great place to visit, especially when weather holds.

James C

The conference house is awesome. Great trails and fun for the whole family

Kelly Marshall

LOVE the trails, and the beach and Pier area is beautiful as well. The Conference House itself is a wonderful, historic building that is lovely to visit. We have had many wonderful walks here and many more to look forward to!

Daniel

A fantastic open space -- among the quietest places you'll find in the city. Well maintained and very scenic, while still being rather secluded from everything. From beautiful trees to beachside waves, it was a delight to be around. Had a great time relaxing in the sand.

Andrea Lictro

Did a photo shoot here. The grounds are beautiful. Great place to just sit and relax and take in the views.

Ming Wong

Park is nice to walking around. However, we noticed has ticks in the park and start feel a bit when we left. Pet owner watch out. Now we have to clean everything before we go home.

Giavanna Indellicati

If you want a relaxing time or want to have a picnic this is the place to go!

Shawn Glancy

Nice place to spend an afternoon. Hiking trails, beautiful beach, and places to sit by the historic house. Have to make your own fun and bring your own food as there is nothing there in those regards but any of that would take away from what the place is.

Diana Amaniera

The park is lovely. That's the reason I moved to Staten Island 50 years ago. It's green all over lots of parks. And the end Apollo Boulevard by Tottenville is absolutely so nice to sit on the grass or bring the chair and sit in the Pavilion. Love it
