We offer you all the reviews of people who use the products of Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary (Zoo) in the territory of Cornwall (Canada).
At present this business has a score of 4.4 over 5 and that rating is based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that it reaches an reviews average is high, and it's founded on a very high number of scores, so we can think that the rating is very credible. If many people have bothered to evaluate when they are pleased, it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to place scores when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Zoo is classified in the category of Wildlife park.
This park contains rescued animals and is not strictly a zoo. In some cases there don't seem to be many animals: there was only one capybara to my disappointment. However, it's a great walk around the countryside with some happy looking animals to see and feed.
A really good variety of animals to see, more than we initially expected. Some bits look a little dated but nothing a lick of paint couldn't spruce up. The cafe is currently closed but this seems to be a knock on effect from COVID so hopefully next year there'll be food and drink to offer. We were there for about 90 minutes and we didn't really rush around so don't expect to be there all day. All in all, not a bad way to spend a morning or afternoon
Best way to enjoy Porfell is to set your expectations low and simply rejoice in how the place manages to make cr*p appear charming. The selection of animals was impressive though and the kids enjoyed it. Shame the wildlife woodland walk was shut (wet weather?) And the "African Village"... well, let's just say, it would likely be an insult to even the most impoverished of African people. Still, enjoyable in a sort of "Mighty Boosh" sense. If you want to kill 90minutes and don't take it too seriously then its worth a visit.
A lovely little animal park, with lots of retired animals and a lovely laid back feeling. We visit every year!
Great little sanctuary with a couple of show and tells with the animals. There are reptiles, monkeys, meerkats, deer and zebra to name a few and a great little woodland walk.
Lovely little zoo - see so much more here than the big zoos! Love the animal encounters and feeding the meerkats.
Cheap in price and quality but some fun nonetheless. The Maasai village is hysterically funny like it was a scene from Peter Kay's Phoenix nights. The animals are varied and interesting and overall an enjoyable few hours.
Due to covid it was a bit sad looking.. But still nice to see some lovely animals...plus my son and daughter found it fun =) Just not the same experience But well worth a visit
The staff at Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary do a fantastic job, looking after animals that are retired from zoos or rescued or donated (ex pets) The girls doing the meerkat feeding and owl display were extremely knowledgeable and were both very approachable and friendly, answering any questions that people had. Porfell is not a charity, so needs your support! Make sure you visit
Overpriced for what's there donkeys and horses in need of a farrier, been to alot better for the money..£30 for 3 adults, we did the whole lot in 40 mins
Quaint with some lovely friendly animals, would advise bringing your own packed lunch as the advertised cafe had little to offer.
Great little place. Wasnt offered or told about food for the animals when coming in, i had to ask somekme about it there response was "the grumpy lady at the front desk" and when we wejt and git she said "couldve got it when you came in at the start" .apart from that was a great place.
Lovely place to visit lots of rare animals all of which have a sad story to why porfell ended up with them. You can feed a majority of the animals, the herd of deer were so gentle & a pleasure to feed. Interesting talks on the animals held daily. Nice cafe with small area for children to play.
Porfell wildlife isn't far from Home for us, but we decided to give it a go after a short weekend break to Looe. Wow, what a lovely little place. Had no quibbles with the entry fee as the money goes to a good cause, the animals here are very happy and active. Lemurs, lots and lots of lemurs to see ???? We had fed the chickens, goats and ponies (although couldn't work out how to see the deer) I'm not 100% sure the ponies were allowed to be fed, but they noticed the bags and demanded some with some foot stomping! We didn't stay very long, partly the heat, and the fact our three year old was reluctant to walk. And the cafe was also shut, but as a whole its a lovely little place. We had a great time.
Discovered this beautiful place by accident. Lots of rescued wildlife, meerkat, monkeys, zebra, owls. Plenty too see, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great little find and will definitely visit again.
A nice way to spend a morning.
Nice 3-4 hours out with my 3YO, not sure if my older children would find it as engaging but great for younger children
Absolutely fantastic place to visit. Great for educational trips to see animals in well kept enclosures. The woodland walk is beautiful with a babbling brook running through. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves today
Brilliant little wildlife park with some unexpected animals, never thought I'd see a porcupine in the flesh! You can get up close to the animals and literally almost touch them. All the while, the animals have big cages and plenty of food, you can see they are all very well looked after. Would be very happy to go back again and support this great charity. Very very impressed with my visit. Great owl display the two ladies who did this on 16/09/21 really knew their stuff and were very funny and entertaining!
Beautiful place, lovely variety of animals in different settings. It was quiet today, which was lovely because it meant there was lots of time and space to enjoy the animals.
I have been here twice in my life. Once as an adult and once as a child. As an adult I spent a whole day with the meerkats in an attempt to get a good photo and to understand more about them. I was there form 10am until 4pm and no-one batted an eyelid, so you certainly have the opportunity to go at your own pace. As a child, this was the most memorable reserve I went to. I would actually give credit to Porfell for kickstarting my passion for animal conservation, where I am now (once covid is over) going to be a ranger. The exceptional due care and attention the sanctuary not only puts into the welfare of its animals but also the reciprocation of how much animal conservation is important now more than ever is a lesson which is learned through possibly the most poweful way. I would highly recommend that if anyone wants to take their kids somewhere it is here. They will learn more in a day here about responsibility and animal care than they will in a classroom. Thank you Porfell, for everything you do.
We really enjoyed it here! This was out first time visiting while on holiday, we decided to go here for our youngests birthday and it did not disappoint! Lots of beautiful animals here
Get to see some exotic creature up close. It's not a whole day out (we did it in 90 mins including lunch) and a bit run down so not the best value for money, but it's for a good cause
By far the worst Sanctuary/Animal Park I've ever been in. It was filthy. Sitting areas outside enclose had atleast 10years worth of cob webs. Small enclosures. Gift shop was tiny and pointless. Cafe was closed due to covid. Absolutely appaulling. Only positives was staff was friendly, and they had a brilliant cockatoo named cocky at the entrance. We spend most of our time interacting with him, he was brilliant and loved the attention we equally loved giving him.
So the wildlife park is a bit off the beaten track but we found it in the end. The park itself is quite good though there is a lot of room for improvement with regards to accessibility and aesthetics . The place seems to be run by a trio of elderly ladies and a few staff but I am sure this cannot be the case as though it is not an enormous place there are certainly enough animals to keep anyone busy. Not very good viewing areas to some of the enclosures , especially if you are wanting to see the reptiles. You have to be either two feet or seven feet tall to see in. These animals have all been given a permanent home, with exception to a few on loan, having been rescued from various facilities and I applaud the founders for the work that they have put in to the welfare of these creatures. Downside ...sorry but this is concerning the tearooms. Imaginative and interesting to look at with the African Savannah theme, the menu was written by someone with the same imagination. Pizza was half a small bap with an amount of tomato puree, a sprinkle of cheddar and two thin slices of tomato on top. Microwaved to within an inch of it's life. A charge of £1.90 for this almost inedible item was what was asked and I foolishly paid it as I was hungry and it was the only vegetarian item on the menu. The menu states cheese and onion pasty but there were none available that day.
Really love this place a little animal Sanctuary well worth a visit
Really lovely park, loads of animal interactions. Well cared for animals - great day out!
Enjoyable few hours supporting a very worthy cause.
Great place to visit friendly staff easy you can get close to some of the animals definitely going back
Great place, but remember it is a sanctuary and as much as it is not a charity, the money you pay to visit is spent running the place, and some staff are in fact volunteers. We enjoyed our visit, and yes, some things could do with a renovation, but the animals welfare obviously come first.
Good for your money, great for kids.
Absolutely great small but well done
Excellent place . Bigger than it looks. Very friendly staff Animals are well looked after. Great 4 adults and kids alike. I loved feeding the sika deer and donkeys. You can get closer to the animals unlike in a zoo.
Great value
Awful. Woman on reception was prickly and short of patience and on entering the park after paying full price only to find large chunks of it closed due to covid. I know there is still covid out there but all other places have made the effort to work around it, not here. Massai village shut, cafe shut, one of the toilet areas near goats shut. Nothing mentioned on entry that it was half an experience. On leaving my 4 year old son asked why so much was shut and the woman on reception then decided to rudely contest ANYTHING was shut. Utter rubbish from start to finish and won't ever return.
Lots of friendly animals, and the staff were good too!
Nice walk around but not much here
Amazing place. Not very big however the animals there are worth a visit!
Beautiful animals, we loved it. We thought there were many empty cages at the beginning which is a good sign as it is also a rescue center. We have seen monkeys, zebra, and many more. Worth visiting as you will have 1to 1 contact with the farm animals. They're bunny and guinea pigs. All animals look healthy. Worth visiting on a way to Looe.
Enjoyed my time here, especially hand feeding the Deer.
Good day out for the kids
Spent a leisurely couple of hours with 9 month old grandson. We both loved it.
Brilliant place to visit. Staff were great, it was good value for money. Spent a good few hours there and saw a great variety of animals. Would highly recommend, great for family visit. It was reasonably quiet compared to other Cornwall attractions which was nice. All outside so try to visit on a dry day.
Great place, very covid safe, animals seemed well looked after. Could do with a few more table and chairs to sit and eat lunch and possibly a kids play section. Tea room was closed due to covid which was a shame but overall very good few hours out.
Lovely setting and friendly staff and chickens!!. Would highly recommend a visit and support this wildlife centre
Was a shame to see a place this full of wildlife so empty in the winter months.. There is a lot to see here and our little girl loved it..
Over due a make over
A little hard to find but well worth it. Lovely place
I took my 10yr old son and teenage daughter here for the day and both of them really enjoyed it, especially loved being able to get so close to the animals and even feed some deer. The Owl display was good and staff all friendly and knowledgeable. Good to visit a place where you can see they really do rescue animals, so a different experience than a zoo.
Good little park, staff are very friendly and care about the animals they look after. Places like this need support so get yourself down there for a great day out!
Again a blessing!!! All these rescued animals of origins from all over the world. A little something from young to elders. Every enclosure spotless. Kindest, knowledgeable and helpful staff. No need to bring your own picnic, but allowed, because even we are looked after by their little restaurant. With appropriate timing you can watch a beautiful performance of the owls with their animal carers. A lovely day out with those animals guiding us from continent to continent. Fantastic.
Fantastic place! My 2 year old loves going
Lovely little sanctuary, spent the afternoon here and despite the rain it was a treat. Helpful staff and amazing animals.
Great little Sanctuary, a little awkward to get too ,but well worth the trip ,the kids will love it especially when you can feed some of the Animals yourself ????????
Great for families
Good little wildlife park / sanctuary. Didn’t look much as we approached and as it was only £10 each to get in i thought 1/2 hour tops and we be done. How wrong was I. We were there for hours. Plenty to see and do. Lovely small woodland walk. Very relaxing place to just relax and chill out. Pleased we went. A cheap couple of hours out. I know places are struggling due to the pandemic this year and this place no doubt could do with visitors entrance fee to help care for the animals. If passing. Pop in. It’s worth it.
Lovely place that takes amazing creatures in need of a home and gives its visitors the chance to meet them and by doing so help to keep them cared for with love. It's a fantastic place to take the family for an afternoon out. We'll be back ????????
Nicola made a friend!! Access is a problem but the place is lovely.
Amazing place. The children (and us parents) thoroughly enjoyed our day here. It is a full day out. The up close with the owls was great and the lady running it was a laugh. The only thing is that the cafe needs slightly better arranging. We would visit again if we were in the area.
A nice little animal sanctuary, friendly staff and possibly a cheap day out with Looe only being a 20 minute drive from the sanctuary. Was smaller than the leaflets made it out to be but there’s a nice woodlands walk too.
This a wonderful little place! All the animals are rescued or too old for their previous existence, essentially making this a retirement home where they can live out their days in comfort. They all have plenty of space and appear to be very well looked after. The park isn't as shiny and professional looking as larger zoos but this is all part of the charm of this place. There's a fab mix of animals and I loved how some that you wouldn't think of were sharing space together harmoniously - zebra & ostrich; tortoise and lemur; rea and wallabies. The changes enforced by COVID had been well thought out, the one way system was clearly marked and hand sanitizer and washing facilities were readily available. It was easy to socially distance from other visitors. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, especially when I dropped my daughter's sunglasses into one of the enclosures! ???? It's a little off of the beaten track but we'll well worth seeking out for a visit and taking your time to see and engage with the animals!
It's great that they rescue Animals, place could do with a face lift. Step up mystery investors!
Great fun day out. Great place for the kids
Lovely little farm. Specifically enjoyed the African area. Kids learnt alot about the different culture... I feel staff could be more approachable as only one made effort to smile at us. Overall I enjoyed my day at the farm and it is well worth visiting!.
Good for small children as the place itself is small
I have been going here since i was a child, and now take my son and he loves it! You can feed some of the animals (not available during covid). Nice mixture of animals, and a nice woodland walk
Loved this little santuary. Really clean and not too busy. We went specifically for the owls and the capybara. They have little runs that go over your head so the animals are nearer to you. Little stories about each of the animals. Well worth a visit and very well priced. My kids loved it.
Visited recently for the first time, family living locally had never heard of Porfell so we didn't know what to expect, what a wonderful place! Big enough for a day to amble and can get closer to many animals than you ever could at a zoo. Plus so good to be contributing to the sanctuary of these creatures. Great value compared to other similar places, visited during Covid so cafe was closed and no talks but took a picnic and enjoyed anyway. Would definitely recommend a visit to Porfell.
such a lovely place to visit.
Lovely place to visit. Not a big park, but plenty of different animals to see. Many of them have been rescued or gone there too retire. Would recommend & I would go there again, when on holiday in the area. This park is run by volunteers. Well done!!
Lovely place, but animals are in to small enclosures..was surprised seing so many empty enclosures.
Lovely selection of different animals really enjoyed going there
Bit of a hidden gem. Loved the owls!
Forget Paignton Zoo . Come to this place . One to one with the animals and even get to feed the donkeys & deer . Fantastic place for any family . Staff are helpful and knowledgeable about the animals . The tea rooms are nice and a good selection of drinks & snacks . One to watch is the owl displays . Definitely worth the visit . 10/10
Some lovely animals. Quite basic!
This was a great find for our last morning in Cornwall. We are animal lovers and rescue advocates, Porfell is a wonderful home for many who have had tough starts and are now part of a beautiful family. There was so much more for us to see than we thought would be there. Each enclosure has a species/breed description as well as a personal animal journey. Our 9 enjoyed reading these to our 2 year old. There is a 'children's farm' as well as the main circuit of enclosures, you can't get as close as I think you could before covid, but it's still a wonderful place of learning for all ages. You are able to see within the 'indoor' habitats as well, so you have a good chance of seeing every animal even if they are sheltering from the wind/rain /cold. There was only one we couldn't find, which is good going compared to other places we've been. We would rather our money goes to somewhere as caring as this place instead of large greedy attractions. Thank you Porfell, we'll definitely be returning when next in the area.
Small private wildlife park that's doing the best they can on small budgets. The staff very helpful as two of our party in wheelchairs. Easy place to find well sign posted. It has such a wide range of animals. The animals where friendly and came very close to the fence so got some great pictures. One wheelchair run out of juice staff very helpful in getting friend around park and allowing us to bring vehicle closer to entrance to get them in when we left. Thanks to all there hope you long continue in your efforts in supporting the animals.
Sadly some of the park was off limits due to covid but still had a wonderful time and the staff really care about their animals :)
Excellent. I went there 2 years ago when I want to Cornwall, Hoping to go again soon.
Kids loved it and the adults too. Unfortunately Covid restrictions meant a few things were not available. I was only disappointed that there was not a little more.
My grandson & I love this little park... Have been twice. He loves the meerkats. Plenty of unusual animals to see & some more common but fab place for family day out. Its reasonably priced & quite easy to drive to.... Parking easy... Quite a lot of walking but well worth it.
Lovely little place to explore with little ones. Felt good to support a business who have suffered due to having to shut for covid over the past 18 months
Easily outstripped local zoos for variety of animals on show, keepers were more than happy to chat about the animals and obviously enjoyed the interactions with the animals
Awesome place to go, it is open so not much cover if the weather is bad. We got close to some of the animals too. Its a fair price and there is also a little shop.
We honestly loved it. It's not your run of the mill wildlife park, each of the animals there has a story behind it. This lovely place rescues animals, so if you are thinking of heading there for lions and elephants this isn't the place for you. If, on the other hand you want to see wallabies wandering about, meercats at close proximity, zebra, monkeys, owls etc, then go here. One of the loveliest things is being able to feed some of the wildlife there, to those of you uninitiated in feeding chickens and donkeys its an absolute pleasure. This a truly lovely place, a gorgeous walk through the forest leads you to the kids farm area. All the proceeds from the entry price goes towards rescuing the various critters you see, and, they have a forever home there. That is a lovely reason to go on its own.
Was a lovely day out. Staff were very professional and friendly ... Animals looked well looked after ,different experience to a zoo . Will go again
Amazing rescued animals
This was a stop off on our way down to st Ives for a mini break. The wildlife park is definitely worth a visit and i would recommend buying some food for the animals as they were all keen to come up to us. Its a lovely place to visit.
Cute! Great place to kill a few hours
Always a good place. Weather was terrible, but got a private talk about the animals. Great little place to see some rescued animals.
Absolutely a brilliant place to go with kids
Nice walk around location, land overall for the animals I felt was small but glad to see rescued animals there and being cared for. That for me was the massive positive.
Little but nice wildlife park, there are fewer animals now due to die off of the elderly animals. Nice African houses and old Series 3 109” Land Rover to pose in for photos. Wallabies, Ostriches, Peacocks, Parrots Marmosets and many others. Need an influx of new animals but still well worth a look.
Was too expensive nothing too see much
Loved the stories with the critters, and obviously the good work they are doing. Worth a visit!
We went to Porfell knowing nothing about it and having seen none of the reviews. Finding the site isn't the easiest thing, but we managed it. The car park had few cars in it, even though it was a fine morning and the initial impression was 'this is either going to be terrible or a hidden gem' I'm pleased to say it is the latter. Cost of entry was average for the type of attraction. The lady at the desk was friendly and chatty. Many of the reviews comment on the condition of the site, the only income is from the entrance fees paid, and this obviously goes directly on looking after the animals, ensuring they are fed, safe and well. The variety of animals is interesting, especially with their backstories being on the enclosures. This site is doing a fabulous job of giving these animals a home, some unwanted, some no longer able to be part of breeding programmes - a variety of reasons for them being there. Keep doing the great work and visit this sanctuary people!
We visited on Friday with our 3 year old granddaughter and had a great time. Very friendly welcome at reception where we were given an overview of the park and offered seed & pellets for those animals we could feed (mainly the farm animals). Lots of animals to see and lots of information about the various species, plus backstories on how many of the animals found there way to the sanctuary. All the animals looked happy and healthy (a couple were recovering from the events that brought them to the sanctuary). The chickens and peacocks roamed freely while the pens were large and offered good cover for the animals while still allowing visitors to see them. There was plenty of food and although we missed the meercat feeding we enjoyed the owl display which was well delivered and informative, with lots of opportunities to take photos during the display and then immediately after when we were invited to get a little more close to the magnificent owls. The staff were very friendly and happy to answer questions. Like many such attractions, the park has suffered during lockdown and needs support. A good 3 hour visit and well worth the entry fee.
Cost us nearly £40 for me, partner and 3 kids. Definitely wasn't worth that. Parts of it werent open (COVID) We had done it all within an hour so had to go round again to try and get our monies worth. The place was quite run down looking, cages for animals not very big either. Quite disappointed really with how much it cost and the enjoyment we got. Wouldnt return.
It's in need of updating. We had a lovely hour there but that's all it took to go around. The animals clearly like the attention and you can get very close to them which was fabulous.
Beautiful place with great staff.. animals are so well looked after and the whole place is lovely. My little girl loved it and so did us adults!!
Lovely little park with plenty of animals to see & I enjoyed feeding the animals too. Also got to see a short owl training session which was unexpected & made the afternoon out even better. The keeper was lovely & told us all about the owl too. Deffo worth a visit and it’s for a good cause too.
This gem of a place is like hidden treasure, we took our kids while on a break in Cornwall as we were struggling to find something to do, and we couldn't have had a better day, there is plenty to see and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. This place is not a charity and does their upmost to support and give sanctuary to a wide variety of animals and birds. If you are in the Bodmin area of Cornwall, then a day out at Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary should be on your list of things to see
Small but very enjoyable animal centre. Informative and knowledgeable staff. Owl displays and kids farm. Interesting location in the middle of some terrifying South East Cornwall lanes. Very beautiful surroundings though. Some very relaxing corners to listen to the breeze in the trees.
I liked the fact that they rescued or were given the animals to help and it is a shame that the only funding comes from the public. The girls doing the animal talks were great.
Lovely little place, keepers and staff are lovely and really friendly, lots of animals to enjoy seeing and learning about. Could do with a little cafe and adventure play area as this would make it alot more of a day out but over all wonderful place
It’s a beautifully set out and family run park that has the best interests of animals at heart. The animals are cared for with love and the best attention.
Nice day out, great small zoo, ideal for children and adults and you get to feed the animals
It was very good
Loved Porfell Wildlife Park, really surprised to see so many animals from all over the world all of whom seem very happy and very well cared for.. Lovely staff.. 6 year old loved it, as did his parents! Reasonable price, highly recommend.
Brilliant day out. Having done the rounds and walked through the woods, we went and bought some feed for the animals from the shop and did it all over again. I think we were the last to leave that day!! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, younger children will love the interaction you can have with some of the animals. I'm moving to Cornwall next year and will definitely be investigating purchasing an annual pass for my wife and me.
Really good honest fun for the kids, loved seeing all of the animals. Admittedly it does appear dated in places but I found it adds to it. 4 stars rather than 5 as the tearoom was a bit disappointing. Quite abrupt and blunt lady serving in there. Overall though, good wallet friendly day out.
Really good and value for money. Love range of animals which have been rescued. From Monkeys to a zebra then Farm animals. All have really good enclosures with plenty of space. Well worth going to.
A lovely day out. Beautiful, happy animals. Highly recomnended!
Went there today for a short day trip. Overall the sanctuary is amazing with lots of animals and they all seem being taken good care of. Owl show was at 230pm and it was stunning. Children can also consider buying food to feed the animals too (but the goats are currently ill so they can’t be fed). Would love to come again x
Had a stunning stroll around the sanctuary today. Animals are in such great condition, have loads of space to roam freely and appear very happy! Friendly staff who were so knowledgeable when we asked questions. A lovely and highly recommended sanctuary!
Great value for money
Great day out
Worth a visit to help rescued animals. Very caring keepers. Our 8yr old grandson enjoyed feeding the deers and seeing the owls.
We found this place as we were horse riding near by. A lovely little place housing retired and unwanted species. Only £10 to visit and helped by volunteers. Definitely try to pop by if you are in the area.
Nice place and friendly staff, lots of animals that have been rescued from many people and places (Including a Donkey from Spain). A lot of different animals and birds to see, the Owls were beautiful. Not a huge amount of choice food wise but the whole place it wasn't busy or crowded with a nice little play area by the cafe. Its a small local attraction trying to make a difference in a complicated world. I kind of liked it for that.
So much nicer than your standard zoo, as all the animals are rescued. Suitable for all ages and only £10 entry for adults. You can tell all the animals are well look after and all the staff are super friendly! Can't wait to go back. Please go, as they rely on tourists to keep it running.
This is a charity run wildlife center so well worth a visit to support the charity. Its not huge but kept us entertained for a couple of hours, lots of monkeys and owls, meerkat, deer and various other exotic animals. Not very busy when we were there but there had been a number of torrential thunderstorms prior to our arrival.
Very friendly family entertainment. Really good owl demonstration
A great place for all ages. A lot of the animals and birds have come from zoos because they are no longer needed or are too old. This is quite a small venue so good for young children. The park is struggling because of lost revenue in the summer so it's a good place to support.
Great place for families kids really enjoyed it as did we.
Enjoyed our visit today. Spent a good few hours with some interesting animals to see. Reasonable entrance fee going to a worthwhile cause, recommended.
Great value for money, some of the enclosures are small and some of the animals seemed bored, you can but reasonably priced food for the animals and feed them yourself, making it more interactive for the youngens to enjoy also. Plenty of parking is available, however be warned there is an indigenous Karen who seems to think she owns the car park because she lives in it like a hermit, but she isn't anything to do with the sanctuary. Picture of the Karen in her natural habitat,
Lovely place to visit with the child .we'll worth the money .
Only spent just under an hour there. Animals well kept but atmosphere didn’t feel right for families
A lovely place to go for all ages. Wheelchair accessible and pushchair friendly. Lots of lovely friendly animals. You can buy food to feed some of the animals. It's a rescue centre as well and has farm and zoo animals. There's a play area, tea room and toilets. Parking is free and it's a reasonable price to get in too. At certain times of the day they have talks and bring out some of the animals to find out about them. The staff are always about and friendly too. A must place to go.
Love it here!. Has a wonderful atmosphere, you can really tell all the staff love the animals they care for. Woodland walk is a delight and my Grandchildren loved feeding the animals and birds and smoothing a Skunk!!.
Lots to see feeding the Meerkats was fun
Great visit with plenty to see for half a day or so. Worth waiting for the owl flying display in the afternoon. Someone's passion project where all proceeds go into looking and caring for these animals.
Great little wildlife park. Not massive but for only £10 great way to spend time seeing animals you don't normally get to see up close. Also has a lovely woodland walk across bridges and through the trees. Would recommend a visit.
We really enjoyed it great price plus worth while cause what the animals have been though.
Not a great deal there no play area but not expensive could do with updating. But good friendly staff
Nice little set up , but a bit expensive for the the size of it IMO
Very enjoyable and a lovely place to walk around. Needs more sign posts to get to it
Nice afternoon spent here definitely worth a visit and admission fee goes to a good cause.
Better than expected, my grandson loved feeding the deer
We really enjoyed our day at Porfell. For a small sanctuary it has a great variety of different animals which all looked content and we'll cared for. It has a very relaxed feel to the place and I honestly felt really at home wandering around. The staff were nice, well informed and helpful. Hand feeding the deers was amazing for the kids to experience. Plenty of space to picnic. We didn't use the tearoom so can't comment. Well worth entry fee to support such a good cause.
Excellent few hours spent walking around and admiring the animals. It was obvious that they really care for their animals, and we'd recommend it to anyone looking for a friendly day out. Worth grabbing a couple of bags of animal feed and making furry friends as you walk round!
Lovely walk around lots to see the mongoose were my favourite ????
Lovely staff well looked after animals
Grandchildren enjoyed it, but not worth the entrance fee
Second visit this year ???? my little girl and i love it here and cannot recommend it enough. The work they do is fantastic, so please support
Characterful wildlife sanctuary with lots of rescued wildlife and the chance to feed deer from your hand. The owl display is great. Charming place, worth a visit, but bring your own lunch.
Nice staff. Lovely quiet hassle free meander through the site. Enclosures were over grown and in a bad state of repair. Animals were very well looked after and well fed. Shame i just cant give 5 stars
Perfect, easy-going family day out!
Brilliant day out.
A lovely wild life sanctuary not to be mistaken for a zoo. The animals looked very well cared for and very tame. Our granddaughter aged 4 really loved the morning we spent there, especially the deer which she was able to feed from her hands and that was a first for her..she was thrilled. Plenty of sinks with hot water and soap to wash hands afterwards. The people who worked there are very friendly and helpful. a play area is advertised but could do with being updated but I know money is tight with so many animals to look after. Just a thought for the future.
Great place
A nice place to visit but both entrances & exit to the place is via a single track very narrow road. We assumed the cafe and shop inside would shut at 5pm same as the Wildlife Park but when we got to both at half 4, they were shut which was a little disappointing as we would have enjoyed a cuppa after walking round for 3 hours
What an amazing place, lovely to see animals being looked after so well,I've highly recommended 2 all friends and family
Lovely place. Animals kept well. Great for families
A really good afternoon out. There are lots of different animals to see and the information about them is well presented and child friendly. The talk about the owls was really interesting and the staff are very well informed. The sanctuary appears a little run-down in places and the toilets are functional but in need of refurbishment, but the animals are clearly well cared for which is the main point of the place. The tea room had shut by the time we got to it, so I can't comment on that. All in all I would recommend this as a full day visit on a sunny day, or a half day visit if it's raining.
Fantastic value for money so much to see and do. Friendly staff, amazing staff, Cornwall's best kept secret.
Lovely setting out in the wilds, just a pity some animals weren't there + part of the walks were closed, disappointed especially with grandchildren in tow.
Me, Wife and 2 kids visited in half term. Kids nowadays are switched on and understand that a Zoo taking animals from the wild is negative, however, at this park every animal was rescued or injured and cannot survive in the wild. Alongside the enclosures is plenty of history about the various animals and their (sometimes sad) history. My kids said "the best animal park they've been to". We went late in the day and it was very quiet. Reasonable entry price (in fact, low by today's standards) made it affordable and great value for money. It isn't a big park but there is plenty to see. When we are in the area again we will definitely be back. An entry fee is a contribution to the place you are visiting and we felt our money would be well spent. We even let the kids buy a toy animal each because we wanted to help by investing more in the park. 10/10!!!
Brilliant little wildlife park. Such a variety of animals to see and some amazing experiences too. I loved the owl demonstration and the whole place has an uncommercialised feel about it.
A fabulous place. The animals kept in good conditions with plenty of space for moving around. The staff were very helpful and obviously care very much for the animals. I highly recommend visiting to see a wide variety of animals. An ideal place to visit for families or animal lovers. Dr David Bracher
Not too expensive, some lovely animals and a nice walk round
Great place to visit for a day out ????
Nice selection of animsls to see. Plenty of parking, easy to follow social distancing. Good amount of picnic tables to have lunch on. Grandchildren loved it.
Fun day out
Lovely day out
Not easy to drive to, single track roads, but once there it is worth the effort.
Great place to visit loved it.
Great family day out, many different animals to see, great ethos being based on rescue animals
Very nice place to go with the family and a worthy cause to pay for.
Great sanctuary!! All the animals seemed cared for and all had fresh food. Staff were lovely and friendly. Cafe basic but clean and had a variety of options
Lovely place. Great for a little walk round and place to take the kids.
Very well run and friendly staff.
Excellent for price. Good to walk around. Great, informative owl display. Lady in the cafe could be more polite. Otherwise great and worth a visit.
Value for money brilliant
Such a amazing place. Lots to see in a lovely setting. We really enjoyed our visit
Food was excellent friendly staff definitely go again worth a visit
Good little place to visit but needs disable parking spaces nearer to entrance can be awkward for wheelchairs but worth a visit
Great place with diferent kind of animals, and you can feed them ( not all).
Love this place! Great place to go , spent 4 hours here. My little boy loved being able to feed so many animals. You can clearly see every animal. Staff were friendly and more than happy to answer any questions about the animals.
We enjoyed a second visit to Porfell this week, this is a lovely wildlife park . The animals all look happy, healthy and well cared for. The staff were all very friendly and helpful ????☺️. Many thanks to you all for a great visit with our grandchildren.
It’s a lovely Sanctuary, pleasant visit with great weather. Customer service from the woman on the ticket counter was poor. 1st impression is important and she didn’t even smile. This is why I gave 3 stars. Otherwise I would recommend this place to visit.
Good place to take family for a couple of hours out, nice to hand feed some animals too.
A pretty rustic family friendly feel. Basic enclosures but with plenty of viewing opportunities for some interesting creatures. Visited during covid and the one way system around the park worked well. Reasonably priced for a family day out. Half a day is plenty of time.
Not as many animals as I remember
Really fab place! Wasn't sure what to expect but it was better than we expected. Of course there are bigger commercial zoos but this place was lovely, friendly and well run with lots of interesting animals. We didn't get to do the woodland walk as the weather was bismal but I would recommend if you are in the area.
Poorly kept, no food, not great for pushchairs, not possible for wheelchairs
Excellent place to visit great animals, staff doing excellent job...
Lovely place and friendly staff shame about.the parks neighbours Bit old but with only funding from visitors what more can you expect really enjoyable day out very reasonably priced nice coffee shop worth a visit
Excellent as always. Well worth a visit!
Great sanctuary and fantastic value for money. Left after seeing a wide variety of animals that were clearly well cared for. Initially looks small but we spent over 2 hours here. Would highly recommend.
Had a lovely time at the park. We spent over 4 hours there and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We especially enjoyed the cockatoo. If you go spend some time with him playing with the rocks. He's such a cutie we wanted to take him home
We took our 9 and 10yr old Grandchildren and they absolutely loved it, and so did we.
We had a great day, really good value.
Absolutely lovely - relaxed, no frills animal park where all the animals looked happy
Because I am disabled I found it difficult to push my walking aid as the paths weren't very even. Tree roots sticking up. But otherwise an enjoyable morning.
We spent a couple hours here and enjoyed looking at the animals most of the staff were friendly, the man working in the tea room was happy and polite unlike the old lady who we found rude and not customer friendly. This is a place we can now say we have been but not one that we would revisit, it puts you off when you see a sign on the owners or staffs gate saying ' Go away' .
Excellent place to visit and a lot bigger than you think at a bargain price
It's nice there just needs a bit of TLC but we did like it
Lovely place lots of different animals and all well cared for
A very nice small wild life attraction will happily go back again
They take in rescue animals, there is a selection, you can feed the Meerkat's with a small pot of meal worm's at 12-00 for a £1. Display of owl's at 14-30. Cost is very reasonable. Follow the signs if coming from Looe, sat nav will take you down a very narrow lane with virtually no passing places.
I was suprised how nice the park was! Lovely long walk with loads of trees to provide shade. And they have a good variety of animals
Family friendly. Small but packed with loads to see and do. Cafe was nice. Staff were polite and helpful. The owl showing was good and informative. Would visit again.
Loved it plenty to see. All animals friendly!!
Lovely day out, enjoyed the fact we could feed animals. The children enjoyed it a lot.
Lots of animals to see. Lovely woodland walk. Plenty of tables to sit and eat packed lunch at. Best of all, unlike a lot of other attractions, the price is not prohibitive. Definitely worth a visit
Perfect place for a family day out. Lots to see and do. Relatively pushchair friendly, so long as you don't mind a good workout. Animals are extremely well cares for. Well worth staying for the owl display. Very good value.
Very good value for money. Lovely place the animals are well looked after. Great family day out.
Great for young kids. Spent around 3 hours here and lived every minute
After reading some of the reviews I was a little wary of planning a day out here but I'm glad we gave it a try! Our girls had a great time and have been talking about it ever since. My personal highlight was the chance to get up close to and feed the deer ( this alone would justify the admission fee ) The whole park had a relaxed feel to it and the freedom to roam around at your own pace. Admittedly certain areas of the park are looking tired but it's important to remember that the park relies solely on their takings to keep the park going. The vast majority of the site is outdoors so I imagine the day wouldn't be quite as enjoyable on a wet miserable day! We'll certainly visit again - thank you for a lovely day.
Nice small and friendly zoo, can feed the deers, ponys and chickens
A lovely little place but it's only 1/2 a day if that here. The staff are great and very passionate about the animals. We had seen all the enclosures plus walked the nature walk within 90mins. Cafe is very basic and a very small play area for the kids. Waited for the animal talks which are short but relaxed. Quick walk round the enclosures before leaving to have a late lunch in Looe
Fabulous. Could easily spend the day here with young children. Great value for money. Will be returing
1st time visiting, children loved learning about all the different animals & exploring
great afternoon here kids loved it thankyou
Great day out. Great range of animals. We have been there every year for the last 7 or so years. This year one of the little horses neighed and ran towards me, clearly saying "hello again!". What a lovely horse.
Lovely afternoon out .Its been great to support this cause of animal welfare .Great photo opportunities to if you're a keen photographer.
Really enjoyed ourselves here for a couple of hours. Lovely place. Definitely worth a visit
Excellent staff, excellent animals. Many are quite old so they prefer no loud noises etc. Falconery show included an Eagle Owl, flown by a very knowledgeable young lady. Highly recommended.
Small park, but perfectly formed. Great animals, lovely woodland setting. My 2 and 4 year olds had a great day. Will be visiting again.
Good half a day out. Plenty of animals to see. Opportunities to do different activities such as feed meerkats, watch the owls fly.
I was not expecting much from this place and was very hidden away down a long narrow country road. But when we got in, we was pleasantly surprised... There was plenty of animals to see and feed. Chickens and Peacocks roam freely and was ecstatic when the Peacock ate from my hand. The layout of the park was good and made for a lovely walk around. We spent around 90 minutes here. Something to note... The on site cafe is shut due to COVID which is a shame. I'd happily visit again.
Great place to visit and the animals look great.
The animal carers were great, good destination for kids on holiday. The lady in the cafe was down right rude and they "close 'at 330, not 4! - we've got things to do, you know... " as they bluntly pointed out. Worth a visit though dispute her surly service.
Very well set up, good range of smaller animals. Clear signage to help with one way system inside. Although there are plenty of signs telling to regularly wash your hands, there are no facilities to do so! However we spent an excellent few hours there and the children lived the animals, particularly the zebra.
Kids will definitely love it is not big these animals are well looked after as they were rescued animals
Porfell has thankfully survived the lockdown and the improvements are very noticeable. Lot's of new stuff going on and the animals are very well cared for as usual. Top marks to all of the staff and volunteers.
It’s a lovely animal sanctuary. Really friendly staff and very funny and sociable animals, despite their somewhat tragic backstories. They have been well cared for and I hope I am able to return in the future.
It's a lovely place to visit all the animals have been rescued and some have been born there . great place to take children .
Nice place to walk round leisuely. Lots of animals to see. Good place for children to visit
Better than a major zoo
Such an inspiring place, it's a retirement home for unwanted animals, it's not a zoo. You can feed some of the animals & the staff give great talks on them. Lovely place to take the kids, well worth a visit, you'll easily spend 3 or 4 hours there.
Lovely low key wildlife sanctuary. Climbing frame for kids. Covid safe
lovely place to go pouring down with rain on the way there and it stopped as soon as we got there ???? have a good range of animals and wildlife great day out kids loved crackers thankyou
Such a wonderful place to visit and what an amazing job the park does caring for all their animals. Will definitely go back and visit next year and definitely recommend a visit.
A very interesting and informative place top marks to the staff that look after the animals
Myself andy partner enjoyed a peaceful walk around the place and highlights were feeding the goats and deer, observing the always entertaining meerkats and the cute marmoset's. Really nice time here and only £10 per person.
Lovely time at this Park. Celebrating 30 yes in business. Some of the animals have been rescued. This one was running free
Porfell is an amazing place to visit, possibly overlooked as it appears a bit run down. Once you read the stories about the animals it becomes clear what a brilliant job they do of rescuing animals in need!
Seen some animals I have never seen before, enclosures are a little rundown, but I think they don't get a lot of money coming in and Covid would have really knocked them, which is a big shame, as they take animals for life and if they didn't they could have been put to sleep. Well worth the £10 entrance fee.
Loved it
Considering our present epidemic it was a really nice visit.
A happy well run family zoo. Fun feeding the local birds and the deer ???? and ponies. We enjoyed our visit
Can't believe people have a go at this place it's a great day out and £10 is just a steal it's a sanctuary so its NOT a zoo but as long as you appreciate that it'll be fine just make sure you put sat nav Location in a otherwise you will never find it ???? but highly recommend a visit there. Take a picnic as theres a little picnic area and it's a fantastic sun trap !! Also vouchers in tourist books for a small discount is a bonus too !!
Bit biased as I actually volunteer here. Animals are extremely well looked after on a very tight budget. The keepers are very knowledgeable, friendly and keen to chat about the animals. The sanctuary relies on volunteers and various donations of food from local grocery stores to ensure a varied and interesting diet. The most surprising thing is the variety of birds, monkeys and exotic creatures that can be seen here. If you are an animal lover and you've never been I recommend a visit.
Staff very friendly and informative. Animals were well looked after.
Good half a day out, great to take kids
Great little place 2nd visit over few years.
The wildlife walk was closed which was a bit of a shame as won't be coming this way again, but other than that a good 1/2 day out.
Fantastic afternoon out. Lovely park and the animals are so well cared for and loved. Cannot beat a family run business. Well worth a visit
A fab day out for all the family. Followed by a peacock most of the day .
This is a great little wildlife park and fun for all the family! Lovely setting for the animals who all looked right at home in their enclosures. Highly recommend a visit.
Really enjoyed it, saw lots of animals despite the cool weather.
Lovely place. Animals well cared for. Would visit again. Keep up the good work!
Its a lovely place to visit, we go every year when we stay in Polperro. The animals are wonderful and well looked after xx
Wonderful experience, love seeing the ring tail lemurs and peacocks
Lovely chance to see the rescued animals.
Lovely little zoo/park. The kids really enjoyed this. The talks and shows by staff with the animals through out the day were really interesting and staff were knowledgeable. Peacocks and chickens walking free around the park. Cafe at the park but with limited opening times.
A great place for a family day out so much to see and do, our granddaughter who is nearly 3 had a great day meeting all the animals, and we allenjoyed our picnic. A great afternoon out and we are so lucky to have this right on our doorstep.
What a lovely, peaceful place. The animals are well cared for and in good enclosures. Plenty of parking, and places to sit. Great to be able to get so close to the animals.
Definitely worth a visit!
Really worth a visit, great wildlife park with lots to see.
Beautiful place really nice to take the kids to see all the animals
A little rough around the edges but is well worth a visit
Awesome and brilliant
Such a great experience and worth the money
Had a fantastic family day out will go back
Was not sure if it was the right place for 2 60+ year olds but we spent a good couple of hours walking round seeing all the 'unwanted' animals now living here in good conditions. This place only gets the income from people coming through the door and at £8.00 each we were pleased to help.
Excellent, place to visit if down cornwell, lovely friendly staff ,cafe is nice and not expensive, our kids dident wanna leave, they fell in love with the donkeys
