Lots to see
The base is a great place to take your kids. The museum is free, swimming is cheap and a very nice pool, the ice rink is $2 the skate on for the hour. They have bowling a gym. And as you can see you can climb up on the tanks and jets that surround the museum
Very pleasant and interesting history place
What a great day! We truly enjoyed seeing the base, history and aircraft.
Loved taking my son to see such an important part of Canadian history! Thank you to all past and presently serving our Great Country!
Had an awesome look back at history when I went. Fun to see kids climbing on the old tanks too
This is a hidden gem in simcoe county...you get a real sense of Canadian military history. There is an extensive collection of vehicles and weaponry. You can even sit in the cockpit of a CF-5 fighter jet.
Great display. Accurate information.
Fun time for old and young.
My kids loved it...
A lot of history here. Very interesting to see all the different war machines
Just FYI, if you just want to see one of the worlds two Wirbelwind aka Flakpanzer, it is under restoration and the repair shop might not be open. It will take over two years to full restore as I heard from the stuff. The stuff were pretty nice!!
A lot of military equipment and history to be enjoyed
Museum very nice, no guide needed. Excitingly, I saw there a Russian tank T72. The colleagues said he had lost himself and got there. Some countries still have it.
Awesome museum, fabulous volunteers at the museum. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Great place to visit to see an awesome collection of Canadian military gear -- to honour our fallen, and be reminded how precious peace is, and why we should value talking first before shooting. Too many young Canadians have fallen.
So much great Canadian history to remember. And a tank park!
Beautiful day out. Love the new forest planted in memory of the great ones! We seen a few people taking out dying trees and planting new ones which was a nice sight. The Worthington memorial park is stunning. So much bio diversity.
The Base Borden Military Museum is a tremendous spot to bring your kids. Admission is free, too. The base has numerous tanks, fighter jets, amphibious vehicles, and other historical military equipment. Great documentation, too.
Cool to see army vehicles..... No charge and kids loved it
Really nice whit the kids!
Really nice place to visit....
Quite a collection of vehicles and small arms! Super rare (1of 2) Flakpanzer IV 'Wirblewind' is under restoration and completely disassembled! Totally worth the trip!
Amazing to see these historical items on display.
A little to militaristic for my liking. 5 stars!
Awesome place
Its free.
Very impressive
Suggest for air force themed visit
Wonderful muzeum, well worth the visit.
Very interesting paywhat-you-can museum. Great place to walk outside too. Free parking!! Has a few poke-stops for those who play
Great place to learn a bit more about Canadian military history
Good small museum, bilingual and lot of stuff, small annexe at the airfield too with really old aircraft. Would just be awsome they add the nuclear bunker who at the entrance of the base to the museum. Oh and it' free too so good activities with the kids!
Very nice, great experience. It's a good place to learn something about Canada history.
Cool place to go for not only history needs, but also just for fun. There is a tank along with a few planes you can enter and is a fun way to spend an hour or two in the area.
It's a fantastic collection of Airforce, Navy, an (best of all ????) Army items. I was impressed. The park surrounding the museum is also great. A fitting memorial to Gen Worthington and the Corps.
Great place to go
An accidental find while browsing for places to visit during our camping. It was already closed for the day when we visited so we were able to see only the military crafts outside the museum. A must-see, so try including in your bucket list next time you visit Simcoe County. Base Borden Military Museum is one of Canada's largest Military Museum which holds a significant collection of WWI, WWII and post-war armoured vehicles, trucks, and aircrafts. ~~ ctto
I take the kids here every time we’re in town. Great little afternoon activity with awesome displays. Free admission only begs for repeat visits.
Small but fun to visit with a friend
Great place to view all types of military vehicles and aircraft from WWII to the 1990's... Well worth a visit.
Interesting displays of military history. Wall of the men and women who lost their lives in Afghanistan was a sobering tribute to their sacrifice.
Just wish there was more to do for kids
Great museum with tons to see and passionate staff willing to help out.
The sheer amount of stuff to look at is worth it alone
Friendly staff with lots of knowledge, a great indoor exhibit and a large outdoor park with tanks and vehicles.
Need to go back when I can stay longer
Great museum on logistics, much bigger than I thought it would be. There are a lot of vehicles in the museum. The weapons section had a fair bit too. There are washrooms and places to sit. A lot of parking available.
Pretty boring like a low end museum with a disappointing trench *EDIT: I am terribly sorry for this immature, disrespectful review I left. I rather appreciate to take this comment out, and say I didn't value such museum to its finest detail. I just came across this comment i left before, and I would say from the 5 times I have seen this, It is indeed my favourite museum to showcase to my peers, and I feel proud and happy for seeing such history in its physical form. Again, I am sorry for my disrespectful comment, and I would love to take this comment I left! P.S my fav military museum in all of ontario :) !!*
If you like getting in a military base then just this part will thrill you. Then you have vehicles everywhere and then the Museum which is a way too small for it's content and that what make the tour one of à kind
Great place to take kids or go yourself if you are a military history affectionado. Tons of great exhibits!
Nice get up of equipments lay out
Great place to catch up on our history. They need to replace broken or missing info display plack's
Lots of History to explore in more than a day.
This is an amazing part of our history. I have been here twice ad are heading there again today with my kids.
Impressive place with lots of military equipment and Exhibits. Very interesting to visit, to know more about history and ppl who defend our country
Some great displays and historical items to see. There is also a Russian tank you can climb on and actually sit in the drivers seat, as well as an F5 Freedom fighter that you can climb into the cockpit and touch the controls. Huge display of all kinds of guns, rifles and machine guns. Spent 3 hours in there.
A very large and impressive collection of military hardware, ranges from hundreds of small arms, an F5 fighter jet and a T55 you can climb into, dozens of old trucks, artillery and various other AFVs, they have dozens of very rare World War 1 and World War 2 tanks, (such as a Mark A Whippet, Sherman Flail, Churchill 1, M13 40, etc.) thousands of small artifacts (I was even told they have a complete SS office from Hitler’s bunker, but Is unfortunately out of bounds), and the museum buildings themselves are pre-World War 2 hangers which was the original home and birthplace of the Royal Canadian Tank Corps when it was first created in the 30s. The highlight from my experience is seeing their ongoing restoration of one of only 2 left in the world German “Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind”, anti aircraft tanks from World War 2, which they are restoring to full operational condition, and is open to the public every other weekend! Well worth the visit if you are in the area!
Very interesting, neat little museum.
A nice surprise, well kept and lots of thought making examples. Lovely welcome at our arrival.
It's amazing militarily history exhibition. There are many military equipments indoor and outdoor. It's good for children.
Great museum with lots of cool vehicles, weapons, uniforms, equipment etc. Plus it's free.
The outdoor tanks are a big highlight, so try and go when the weather is nice. The indoor displays are good too. I wish they had more interactive stuff for the kids, but that could be a covid19 thing. The airplane museum is a bit if a letdown ... Doesn't take long to get through. Don't forget to see the WWI training trenches. It's a very small area, but the significance is there.
Historical beginnings of Canada's air force...
Excellent military equipment and firearms collection from the begining of the Canadian Military, around 1900.
Very educational and a lot of very old stuff there it's a very nice museum people there are very nice there's two museums on the base that you can visit we visited both we will definitely be going back in the summer love Base Borden.
This museum is incredible. A great collection of historical military artifacts. A must see if you are a history buff.
This place is really good. I think it is only a small donation to enter and it has several items spanning many years from many different countries. At no cost outside the museum there is a nice park with military vehicles on display. A great place to learn about the military and its history
One of some hidden gems up north. The equipment on display is mainly outdoors, so the weather must be fair for you to appreciate the long array of war time relics dispersed around the city, be prepared to walk.
A great museum with a rich history of military artifacts that covers the different eras of conflict. It's amazing to see the vehicles and weaponry that this museum has. The most fascinating display I have found is the collection of small arms. Small arms from the world wars to the Warsaw pact countries. Really interesting stuff worth checking out.
Nicely set up both inside and outside.
Such a wonderful place, I loved coming here. Such a fantastic learning experience, even as an adult. Thank you for your service!!
Lots of CAF artifacts from WW1 to the present day.
Awesome place to visit????
A great viewing of Canada's military history, both locally and nationally.
Nice museum free to visit
Visit to this museum exceeded all expectations! Very impressive collection of items, we will definitely back here.
Always fun and educational!
We love this place. When we have time to lessur should come here.
Excellent
The gentleman that guided our tour was absolutely awesome. The museum is full of pieces of Canadian history and they all have an amazing story behind them. If you get a chance to go, be sure to ask if he can tell you the story of "the table in the H building". Such a great experience and they don't even ask for money! Outstanding!
Free of cost. Very good place to visit with Kids. Had a good time taking pictures with beast tankers, choppers and all war weapons.
Home to tons of rare vehicles/artifacts. If you’re a WWII nut living in Ontario, visit this museum.
Great place to take kids. Amazing history pieces you can see and touch
Amazing outdoor museum; military tanks, planes, and artillery. Lots to see and explore. War Planes outdoor museum also located on base.
Borden's Museum is a must see if you come around this part of Ontario, lots of beautiful pieces of history from our military heritage. Free visits, leave a token of appreciation to help. :-)
Very interesting to see the different exhibits with some of the vehicles that were used in various Wars, and the history of different types of guns and where they're from. If there was an auditorium that played movies talking about said vehicles and Wars Canadian's have fought in, that would make the museum a lot more interactive and interesting.
Lots to see at this museum, definitely no shortage of vehicles to view and learn about. Very cool experience, my Dad and I had a great time. The only thing it's missing is a gift shop!
Great they are vary stocked of old stuff very clean play sand nice people to deal with
Awesome, loved it here especially the t55
Great space lots of history
A rich history of Canadian military. Bring the family and teach your children the honored past of the 3 branches of the Canadian military. From actual vehicles from WW I and WW II. An amazing collection from tanks to armored personnel carriers. Weapons of every kind. Trainer simulator to a full size fighter jet you can actually sit in. Look at the history of uniforms to the medals the proud women and men that served earned. Worth the time to spend there. And it's free. But be kind and donate. Cash only. Any amount will do. Respect the speed on the base. And if you see training on the road drop your speed to 15km and be aware. Show respect. These men and women serve to protect all of us. Enjoy this unique operational base.
Pretty much the best military museum on the south Eastern Ontario. It is located on the military base, and it is split in two, the aerospace and the military/vehicles. It is free.
Not bad
Kids love this place
Very informed and friendly staff.. great selection of different time periods and different vehicles. I really enjoyed going inside the plane
Had an amazing time with family ????
Very nice and informative
Fantastic. Kids will love it.
A must see if you have an appreciation for military history.
The place is really nice, not crowded, entrance is free, few hours spent with fun
Passed by accidently; but it was nice to see all the carriers...of war...and we couldnt go inside as we were not diring opening hours but definitly have to go back to look inside the museum.
There are lots of outdoor tanks and war machines to look at around the grounds. We didnt go inside the museum, next time.....
Best museum around, lots of amazing history here, and friendly staff!
Highlight of the day was the East German T-55 in the corner, which you can climb up and into. The cutout sections really gave an appreciation of the interior and the armour thickness and distribution.
It's a nice place to visit
AMAZING collection of military history here. So worth the experience. Plan for a few hours as there's so much here to take in. The base is easy to navigate and offers lots to see. I've been a number of times and have always found everyone to be friendly and proud to share their base with the public. Worth the trip.
If you're looking for a piece of history then this is a must see. Delve into the history of the Canadian Forces...from their uniforms, equipment, artifacts and historical accounts, you're sure to enjoy.
Great collection of WW1 and WW2
Everyone was super nice.great place to visit with kids
Love the history here, and it's really cool to be on base. The attendants were also super helpful
Fantastic, large amount of vehicles on display indoors and out. Multiple vehicles (tanks, planes, personnel carriers). Large collection of weapons also on displayed. Detailed info on most vehicles and weapons. To top it off its FREE. Great day.
If you are real -- you should visit this place. It's fantastic and free. You will find lots of tanks, mil-ry vehicles, guns, machine guns, rocket launchers, grenades, sabres, etc from all over the world there. Also, they have Navy related area. Kind and smart manager. Must see!
It was simply amazing to relive the past. Thank you.
Worth to visit this place...✌✌
Well kept and interesting
So educational and historic. Great outing for adults and kids. Easy walk through.
A great collection
Amazing military history in this museum. A must visit.
Unfortunately the museum was closed when I was at Borden but there are plenty of things on the grounds to see - many different styles of tanks
Cool tanks
Wonderful helpful people. Great piece of military history
Amazing loved every minute here, Such a sense of respect here,
Great place to spend a few hours
Great museum
Worth the visit
Very nice place, security was very helpful to us. Will have to go back again
My kids was so exited to visit museum. Now they waiting for our next visit.
Great museum with so much history. So many tanks around the museum!
Lots of military exhibits and artifacts. Great for my family and I. Step daughter loves it here
Free admition. Good place to visit with boys who are interesred in tanks and other military history and artefacts. You can get into the tank and plane.
Lots of outdoor exhibition free to watch and touch the history. Let us not forget and cherish the peace that we had.
It is a pity that such a high quality museum is in a place relatively few non-military visit.
This museum is the largest military museum in Ontario.
Happen to be at Military Base Borden. Place with so much of history from World war II. Military museum has war planes, helicopters, tanks, artilary guns and a great history. These have gone old but makes one feel the time many from our previous generations might have been into. An hour drive from Toronto, Canada. Military people are very helpful but carry your ids and get permissions.
Was nice to see but not everything wasn't open and not maintained very well
Kids loved it! All the tanks and planes and weapons. Very cool. Don't forget to make a donation when u are there.
first time going there and saw lots of cool stuff
Great Little gem, easy to walk, most armor is outside but still worth a visit. They have a really good small arms collection as well. Go on YouTube and look at the chieftain YouTube channel, he did a quick walk through of the museum which gives you a good idea of what they have. The weekend security person at the front desk was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the things that go on at the museum as well. The museum is donation-based.
It is free...over 40 tanks .... some scattered around the base....boys love it...
Friendly stuff, lots to see ! And this place is a real piece of canadian history ! We come there once a year with a big group for community event and always have great time ! Also you can eat in, in military style buffet, very cheap, lots to choose, even as vegetarian i had lots to choose from, just make sure you check the time because they close it for some time, to clean it and switch from breakfast to luch and from lunch to dinner. Have fun !
Love the museum. So much knowledge and history to be proud of.
Nice museum. Enjoyed exibits both inside and outside.
Honestly a great place to check out...curator is extremely knowledgeable in absolutely everything there is in there...would definitely recommend
This is your most interesting Museum I've been in a long time and there's two of them on base you got to go it's a must-see thing
Great place for kids to see the war vehicles, planes etc. People were super friendly Loved it
Very enjoyable. Will have to come again as we didn't see everything before we had to leave.
Amazing museum with so much to offer, and the staff are so friendly and happy to answer any questions you have. Highly recommend!!
Easy to get to, very well done. No cost but I always give to the donation box. Many great vehicles plus lots more to see. The man on the front desk today was very helpful and nice. It wasn't my first time here and definately wont be my last
Very interesting. Some hands on items.
Big collection of vehicles. Nice outdoor display in a large parklike setting as well as the impressive indoor museum. Entrance is free but after going thru you can't help but want to make a donation. They are working on some restorations now so hopefully some running vehicles in the future. Great spot for a stop on the way up to Collingwood.
An amazing way to spend time on an outing with the family and learn a bit about canadian military history. So much to see.
Its not bad, inside the museum has a lot of things and not a lot of room
Nice place to stroll around the older version of tanks and helicopters. Lots of trails available for hiking.
Such an amazing place to be. I had a military man explain eveything about all of the tanks/military eqipment. I didnt have to pay a dime. I rode my motorcycle to one of the hangar displays and took a few photos also. This was an amazing experience and i will be coming back.
Must visit with kids. Awesome place to spend some relaxation and it's FREEEEE:)
Free but everyone who goes really should make a donation.
Great museum to learn about the military
Lots of history and great place to get educated on military history!
Curator and staff are a fountain of knowledge. Great tank collection and one the best small arms collection for a museum of this size. Highly recommend.
Great collection! Many exhibits lacking adequate labeling and information, particularly with firearms and vehicles. However the variety more than makes up for it!
They have zero respect for history. They threw our 100+ year old books that were entrusted to them. Would give zero stars if they let me.
Awesome view of history-needs an update
If you're a military history enthusiast like I am you will love this place. Its a little off the beaten path but well worth the drive. At the time of my visit there were covid restrictions with limited access to the full site however the vehical exhibits and fire arm exhibits were oppen. There are many, some unique vehicals on display. The historic fire arms section also has numerous nice pieces. As an added bonus there are numerous vehicals parked all over the base on display to check out.
Love being there
Great place and there's a museum there to for extra learning ????????????????
Go every year. Always something new
Everyone must visit
Showcase of Canadian military history
Interesting Canadian Military history
