REVIEWS OF Montreal Insectarium IN Beloeil

Tako Yuck

Really amusing to go there and see all kind of insect. Really good.

Soroush

There is good information to know

Eric Hacke

Well done, but kinda basic considering the price. Not worth it in the winter when you don't have access to the gardens.

Pritika

My 4 year old boy really enjoyed looking at the wide variety of insects and asking a ton of questions. Based on your interest and quest for learning, you can spend time here but I would say 1- 1.5 hours is more than enough.

Alexander Pudikov

Great place for all ages. We were pleasantly surprised by the museum and the gardens.

Sarah Scott

I honestly didn't think this would be as fantastic as it was. The displays are super interesting. The staff is interactive and friendly. Special shout out to Charles who helped us hold a stick insect over and over again. The insectarium is a special memory for our family.

Eugene Ingerman

Very cool museum. Amazing collection of insects and arachnids. A few insects the size of a plate. One downside - expensive.

August Zeidman

Super cool place! I'm not sure whether to call it a museum, a zoo, whatever, it was a really cool place with hundreds of interesting and well presented insects. I sure learned a lot and had a fantastic time!

ZIO FABRI

Good location but that's about it. Brought some tourists there and even they weren't impressed. Very overrated, to be honest I was expecting much more from such a place. Not worth the money at all. If somebody wants to see pictures of bugs they can simply search on the internet, this place needs more live bugs and insects instead of dead ones. Literally a place you go to only once, and never again.

Jason G

My least favorite of the four; biodome, planetarium, botanical garden, the insectarium was clean and well laid out, I just really dislike bugs. I wouldn't have gone to this one if my partner didn't want to. I'm giving it four stars though because objectively it seemed very informative and well designed. If you like bugs you'll like it here.

Ady M.

Family friendly outing, a bit on the expensive side.

Gurleen Ruprah

Amazing place to visit at least once when in Montreal. Had a lot of nice looking cute insects in addition to a lot of creeps!

Micah Manary

Went with our two small children and they loved it! Highly recommend

Shelna Walker

I visited in 2017 and it was fantastic, totally worth going but the museum is undergoing major renovations and is CLOSED until Summer 2021!

Deanna Tosto RGD

Very cool collection

Pere Via

Really nice place and good for schools and study but I felt that I wanted more for the price, totally good for kids, they go crazy with the alive insects

Abiezer Reyes

Very educational and organized. My kids loved watching the ants cutting flowers on real time! They also loved trying to find where the real live spider and other bug where inside the "fishbowl"

Benjie Pilapil

Nice collection of preserve insects in near real life. Few live insects. Well maintained.

Jasmine

Been there both times I went to Montreal. It's really interesting and informative and it's nice not all the bugs are dead. But I do wish there was more and more live things.

Andrii Voropai

Amazing time in amazing places

Den Tee

For children it'll be fine. Expect to be in there for two hours tops. Was in there with a 5 year old and almost 2 year old. They were entertained enough. Most of the displays are of dead insects in this insectarium. Ant display was the coolest thing. Not in the'to do list' though.

Kristi St. Clair

Kid friendly, fun and educational, a great time for all :) I was so happy to share this place with my daughter finally!!

Matthew H

so fun! and the building is built to look like a house fly!

Srinivasan “#0K” Ramachandran

Part of the botanical garden. I enjoyed all of biodome. Unfortunately, the zoo was closed

Max Kh

Could use better lighting indoors, but it's a wonderful place especially for kids

tahir ayoub

We enjoyed it, lot of bugs to see and to learn about them i would say it was fun

Antonio Neves

There are a lot of distractions inside, lots of things to see. I love to see the dangerous creatures like spiders and scorpions. Outside you can find a tent where you can buy food and rest.

Miguel Andrés Cañón Plazas

Really good place to learn about insects and have information directed and explained for kids that really educative.

David Hubbard

Fascinating place. Might be tough for those who struggle with creepy crawlies, unsurprisingly, but I really enjoyed it.

Pavla Šprtelová

Nice place in botanical garden, pretty small, we spent there almost hour

Fernando Torres

I don't like insects particularity. I really enjoyed it though. I went with my family and the kids and we all loved it. It's worth it definitely.

Roland Newmark

Even if you aren't a fan of insects there's so much variety and interesting insects to see it makes it worth the stop. Kids while not particularly interested they loved everything there was to see and the couple ones to touch. Keep in mind the vast majority are dead and pinned to a display.

Logan Edwards

Loved it. Anyone who is interested in insects and such, definitely have to check this place out. The ant colony was really cool. Loved the mantises too.

Joey Sheffield

Cool little museum. It will take 45 minutes tops to see, likely less. You get to see it with the Botanical Gardens so you might as well drop in. On the way to the gardens there is a food truck serving insect fare for the brave.

Nick Delnero

Expected more but nice experience.

Marine Sergent

Very cool place where you can learn a lot about insects and see some of their most stunning specimens, alive or pinned on a wall. My favorite spot was the Atta ants, where you see ants climbing freely from one pot to another spot. I removed 1 star because the whole building kind of suffer from its old age, and it would be amazing to see a small refresh in the scenography and the lighting.

MotorCity Sights

EEEEWWWW!! All kind of bugs! Kids love it. Awesome place to enjoy a rainy day and learn about our small roomates :)

Dejan Zivanovic

Great variety of insects from all over the world. Must see.

Michael H

Great for kids. More bugs that you can imagine. Huge bugs.

Eric Arantes

Went for the Butterflies Go Free exhibition.

Randy McDonald

I have literally heard of this insect museum for decades, and was very pleased to finally visit it. This accessible two-story space has all the information you might want about insects, across hundreds of millions of years and the breadth of the globe. My only issue is that good made from insects was not available in an on-site cafe, but the energy bar made of crickets that I got from a vendingachine sufficed. Recommended as part of a visit to the Botanical Gardens.

Nicholas G (Nick)

Very cool little place. If you're going to visit the biodome and wanna extend your day it's definitely worth buying the combo pass for all the attractions. It's not the biggest place but there's still lots to see. If you wanna trip out your …

Zohar Gilboa

Wonderful! Gorgeous insects, interesting exhibits, great for kids.

Keith Chapman

Very cool place with lots of different insects. The ant exhibit was my favorite

Brittany Thiessen

The Insectarium is an insect museum located on the same property as the Botanical Gardens and you have access to this museum with the price of admission from the Gardens. The museum displayed insects from around the world in exhibits, both preserved and alive. There were tarantulas, spiders, ants, butterflies and much more. It was a really cool place to wander around and learn more about insect life. Although the museum was geared more towards children, it is still definitely worth a visit for adults too. It was really interesting to watch all the ants carry pieces of leaves back and forth along a tree branch. Recommend a visit to this museum while in Montreal!

Prabhjot Singh

Great place to bring children for seeking knowledge about different species of insects.

Tyler Johnson

Its a science type centre that goes through the different types of insects. If you have young kids they would be entertained here for some time. As adults we saw everything in about 25 minutes. There's a cool selection of coloured beatle shells on the main level that makes for a good photo opportunity.

Barrett McCormick

Some interesting exhibits, but not quite enough to make this a destination on its own. Maybe stop in if you are at the nearby botanical gardens anyway?

Shlomo Levi

As beautiful and delightful as ever. Kids get to learn more about the environment and it's living organisms. We visited the botanical gardens too, all in one place

ross macintyre

Lots of neat bugs, the Beatles were so colorful and beautiful. The ant exhibit was very interesting.

Jesús Mary Joseph Holy Family

It is a beautiful and friendly family as well as for those who love to learn the life cycle. Have a good day!

Manuel Colón

Who knew that insects could be so interesting? I wish I would have spent more time here, but we were in a time crunch to see the botanical gardens too. It's a pretty small location, but I would dedicate at least an hour to see all the attractions.

Kevin Kang

Great collection with many live insects

Jess Wright

I really enjoyed the many beautifully displayed insects in this museum. While small, it's very informative and well curated.

Phaidra Duchastel-Vassaramva

Wonderful experience and very insightful. Bring your date and or your family, it is worth every penny you will spend

David Grant

Amazing displays although I think the smaller one in Victoria, BC is still better.

W C

So many cool bugs to check out. They mostly focus on butterflies and beetles. It’d be cool to see more of other types of bugs, like ants, bees, wasps, and so on.

Marta Borowska

Super fun spot. Also great for kids but there is a lot of joy for adults here too! Very pretty and informational. Was nice to go in the summer to see the gardens. Lots of bugs behind glass!

Chris Walsh

It was ok but this is mostly aimed at children. The best part was the live leaf cutter ant display.

Hannia Ugalde

The exhibit is AMAZING!!! A great variety of insects and other animals. Everything is well rotulated and there's even people who explain to young people and kids, about some insects. There's a public parking lot neraby and you can get a price to go to 2 sites. Good place to come with family and/children or any age.

Stefan Dalen

My favourite place to visit while at the Botanical Garden. The aquatic bugs are the weirdest and coolest.

Cooper Smith

Every bug has a placard with its name and where it comes from, which is very helpful in making a list of countries to never visit.

Martin Storer

Small in comparison to the botanical gardens, but their collection of insects is pretty impressive, even if you aren't a fan of bugs. I'd recommend the visit.

Cy Ang

Lots of insects. Very interesting displays. Small but informative. I think a maximum spend of 1 to 2 hours are sufficient

Erazem Dolžan

Great bug collection, impressive to see. I'd recommend visiting in the winter, it's a lot less crowded. Could do with a bit more information panels along with all the dead buga.

Darren C

Thought there would be more. Still pretty interesting if you enjoy checking out all the insects.

Stef C

The amazing world of insects! Never thought there are so many beautiful colorful beetles, moths and butterflies. You can buy grasshopper from the vending machines for snack, lol.

Chad Parker

Small and significantly missing live bugs. Most of it is glass cases of butterflies. Eating a cricket rice Krispy was a cool novelty though.

Friendship Spacestation

If you love bugs, this is the place. It really hasn't changed a whole lot since I was a kid, but it's packed with creepy crawlies and interesting facts. …

Qiot Riot

Great place if you like bugs. A bit small actually. Part of the package for the Botanical gardens. Try the bug tasting if you dare. Just don't look at your food if you can help it.

Christine Wohlgemuth

This is an intriguing place to visit with children. So many different kinds of bugs, live and preserved.

Kayla Beisel

Very interesting. Great for kids. I loved the little mascot stick bug spotted throughout the exhibits. Definitely recommend popping I for a visit. They have a deal for visiting the other attractions on site

Bartholomew T

The Insectarium is very well maintained and educational. There are various interactive programmes which you could take part.

Robin Hozee

Great exhibition of life and dead insects. I didn't expect a lot when we got here but although small it's a very beautiful display of kinds of insects.

Chris Berardi

Not a bad exhibit, a bit small but cool none the less.

Jennine Tiedemann

Very very cool. The exhibits were beautiful and informative and there were some really neat live instructional exhibits as well! I do wish there was an enclosed butterfly habitat though.

Tasha Snailz (Electric Snailz)

If you love insects this is a must! The preserved insect specimens are done so well there is not a hair out of place! Lots of live insects and arachnids too, and the coolest ant colony i have ever seen! It is eductional, fun and interesting. Also everything is in French and English.

Ali Moosavi

Apparently this is one of the biggest insectariums in the north America. Be ready to spend hours here if you are into insects..

Brett Kuehner

So many interesting insects. The leaf-cutter ant display is especially good.

Ryan Hanna

Really neat place to explore with a live ant colony, and when I went they were open until 10 pm which was awesome!

Lakshya Katariya

Great collection of insects. My first time to see live nest of fungus-growing leaf-cutter ants.

Jen Gaffney

Small and needs more activities but the bugs were cool and kids got a huge kick out of the stick insects because they couldn't find them at first. Very interesting and definitely different! Tried the ant ice cream, not a fan but an experience for all of us. Would probably go back on a cooler day so we could walk outside, it was too hot to take the kids around everywhere and they got tired quickly.

Jim A. Fupuy Chiong

Nice place in which you can even touch and interact with live gigantic insects (on specific occasions).

André Michaud

The Insectarium of Montreal is a close to unique place in the world. A place dedicated enterily to insects and to educate on their importance in our environment. You will find there a huge collection of pinned insects as well as live insects terrariums. My personal favorite everytime I come back to the city. *Note that the museum is supposedly scheduled to be demolished around November of 2018 to make room for a brand new and improved Insectarium in a couple of years.

Maria Thomaidis

Lots of bugs, not necessarily something that will entertain young children for a long time. It's a quick visit, about 30 minutes. This was the final day, as they are closing to set up a new exhibit to open for 2021.

Gwynbliedd

Awesome place. I really enjoyed how close it was to the greenhouses and gardens. The trip was worth it in the winter but the whole botanical gardens would be better in winter.

Jean-Baptiste Le Bouquin

Nice display. But rather small and not very interactive.

Marge Simpson

Kids will love looking at all these neat insects. A beautiful building with so much to do.

Chris Bing

Bit disappointing really. Not that many live insects to see. Luckily it was just a small part of the botanical gardens.

Dutch Clark

I loved this place. I got to hold an insect and the displays were very onformative

Scot Bryson

Fun place with so much to learn about the majority of planet earths inhabitants.

Will Miller

Nice desplays. Great place to try insect food. Cricket burger. Termite and chocolate covered ice cream.

Vicious Vaudeville

I went on my own thinking it would be more of a museum, but it's geared towards kids.

Chelsea Allen

Interesting, informative, fun! I especially enjoyed watching the bees at their work. And walking in amongst the butterflies and having them land on you is magical.

Alex Yaguana

All the knowledge about insects in this place!

Ainsley MacDonald

Very cool but not worth the price. I went with my family and we all agreed that the museum was really tiny and it's very expensive to look at mostly dead bugs.

Eva Siwicka

Really interesting! Great for all ages

Deirdre Piggott

Fantastic if you love bugs, butterflies, walking and flowers this is for sure the place for you.

D C

Nice museum. On the small side, however entrance fee gets you access to all the gardens. Japanese and Chinese ones were nice.

Kim W

Such a great experience! Very well layed out displays and helpful staff! Kids loved it!

Joseph McCarthy

Good and informative with a few live exhibits to keep it interesting. Price a little high but if you can visit the other attractions also it's not too bad value

Guillaume Quintard

Small but impressive collection. Very good exhibition for kids and adolescents.

San S

Lots of insects, small and big.. Time well spent. Staffs were very friendly.

Nicole Delville-Burke

Very nice place. Bit pricey, but worth it.

Susan Smolders

It was well designed and all, I just don't care for insects! ~ it was part of a group visit. A staff member ran an interactive game with us that was pretty interesting, so definitely a learning experience. There is food with insects available for sale (though we didn't try any). Good place to bring elementary school kids.

Konstantinos Tserpes

Really great place for kids. Took us about an hour and they loved trying to spot the insects

Dane Hammer

Perfect for little kids, ours were fascinated the entire time. Had a blast.

Kim Alcock

kids friendly. amazing place to visit int he summer/ spring. Botanical garden nearby is also amazing.

Kimbal Warlock

Super cool place. A little easy to get lost and absorbed by the displays

Nate Chertack

Awesome insect museum with loads of specimens, plus exhibits explaining everything you'd want to know about our creepy-crawly friends. There's a bunch of live exhibits too, try to see how many stick insects you can spot! Make sure to check out the botanical gardens too!

Nicole Delville-Burke

Very nice place. Bit pricey, but worth it.

Stace D

A very good time for adults and kids alike! Just don't be squeamish!

Sophie Benitez

If you love the insects this place is for you. They have a lot of insects and is a real collection to many parts of the world

Zane Xie

Very educational and fun, however I think that it lacked variety in the amount of species they have to display.

Richard Tang

Interesting place for sure, lots of interesting information and the amount of different species is mind boggling. Short and sweet!

Gary Bader

Great but small. Like an insect. Check out the shape of the building from above on Google maps.

Rhianna Speranzo

The insectarium comes with your entrance to the botanical gardens and makes for a nice reprieve from walking around in the heat. It's a small place but is filled with fascinating displays. I usually hate bugs but thought it was very interesting to see all these insects movig around in one place.

Michel Condoroussis

I've been here a few times and although it is quite gross it is very interesting. I'm glad I live in a cold region when I see the insect that inhabit the warmer climate areas. There is a lot of information and generally not too crowded. Plus it is within the Botanical Gardens so you can get a combo pass.

Cameron Sandilands

Cool little place to go visit. It is in a small little building and there aren't that many live animals to look at. The vast majority of this museum is displays and information.

Bethany Kenyon

Very interesting, worth seeing if you're into animals

Maria Pia Aguilera

My son loves visiting this place, and learn all he can about the little creepy crawlers!

Cédric Lignier

Great insectarium that is definitely kid friendly. Staff is here to let you interact with specific animals as well as telling you everything about ants! It’s also a pretty small place so you can see everything within 2 hours.

IGoByP

Very cool place to visit, but wish they had more live insects. Most insects are " dead", but still impressive.

Sean Townsend

The walk through the front gate almost killed us when it was -20 but we will have a large ant farm in our new home

Bob Ark

If you are a big city in the far north, and a traditional zoo is not a feasible idea - this is a brilliant attraction idea. Fairly small, but extremely worthwhile. You could rush through it in a couple of hours, or take your time and spend the better part of a day.

Ayaz Mohammed

This place is a must visit especially with the kids. It's creepily awesome with both live and fossilised exhibits. Plus you can buy insect snacks ???????? An excellent collection of different varieties of insects, beetles, butterflies and what not. Can easily spend at least an hour or two exploring and reading up about them. Don't miss the stick insects. You might even get a chance to let one explore your hands ???? Check out my Instagram @srkwithlove for more

Alex Rodriguez

The worst part of this is that the actual building is kinda small, but it is great nonetheless. Take your time and read all the plaques. Fascinating exhibits with both live and mounted specimens.

Martin Votruba

Excellent exhibition with plenty of outstanding species and finely stuff ready to help you to explore them. They let you even hold some of the animals!

Suzanne Kantra

Great place to take kids. It's small, but the exhibits are informative and they have a number of live exhibits, including a cool leaf-cutter ant enclosure.

Derek Wilson

Lots of bugs at the Insectarium and other things to see with the kids in the surrounding gardens. Stop at the outdoor covered restaurant for a soft serve ice cream on your way out!

Kathleen Herrold

Wonderful diversity! Beautiful displays.

Marlène Da Silva

The insectarium admission is included with the purchase of the botanical garden's ticket. It is really fun, good for family and educational for all ages. I loved the terrarium with the ants colony, you can see them work and build their colony. There is a lot of varieties and it shows a beautiful miniature part of our world that is difficult to observe in nature. Also, the insectarium offers free wifi.

Dominic Roussel

Quite day at the Insectarium. It meant no long lines to peer into the glass and search for the hidden insects. Beautiful displays and layouts. Very family friendly and accessible. Easy parking. Your ticket is hood for both the Instectarium and the Gardens.

Eric Cormier

Great learning opportunity for all ages!! And the bug ice-cream grows on you

Carolanne Plourde

Nice place to learn about new things. It's kinda small but it's packed with information, and sometimes they hold special activities.

BirdCam Greater Toronto, Canada

Great place, perfect to let storm pass before we go to the botanical gardens!

Lisa G

More alive and touchable insects would be cool

Labarynth Maze (LabTV)

Very cool but it feels like it's missing something. We actually saw everything and thought "is that it?"

Marek Chudzia

If you like or inquire about insects:. This is a must. What a huge collection of insects. Wow. But the 12$ parking cost is ridiculous.

Haytham Abbas

Disappointing. High-quality online pictures and videos of this venue will save you time, money and effort. The fun part is a kiosk just near the entrance that serves food with insects. Sandwiches, sides and desserts!

Kazem Spahi

The Montreal Insectarium (French: Insectarium de Montréal) is a natural history museum located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, featuring a large quantity of insects from all around the world. It is the largest insect museum in North America …

V P

I can't believe how much the place had to offer. It looks small from outside, but there are so many beautiful displays inside. I love how they have the cafe that serves food made of insects. Definitely an underutilized source of protein in North America. SO TASTY!!! One of my favorite memories from my visit to Montreal!!!

Vesna Rancigay

Love it. First time there. If you love bugs and all different kinds of of species including butterflies. This is the place to visit.

Rachel Escher

Really great. Great exhibits, especially loved the leaf cutter ants.

Mubarik Ahmad Siddiqui

Very nice place. Lot of information.

AbdoulKarim Diakite

Cool and fun place to visit

Estela Andrade

Amazing I had a lot of fun

Faith Manary

Fun! Don't be misled into thinking the "cafe" sign indicates food, though. Unless you want some edible bugs . . . If you have kids, the playground around back was unbeatable.

Kate R.

Nice place to take the kids and it is connected to the Botanical Garden, where you can visit the Japanese and Chinese Gardens and not too far from there, you can take a tour at Olympic Stadium and take the elevator to the top of the Tour, where the view of entire downtown Montreal is breathtaking!!!

Justin Davies

Pretty cool spot in the city. You can see the many pinned specimens and the live tanks as well. But for me I love the ants. The ones that farm fungus from leaf clippings. What a display! Included is admission to the botanical gardens.

Jamie Laudi

Good place to bring kids . Show the different bugs. Wish it was closer to biodome.

HC Russell

Very educational and aesthetically pleasing. Appeals to different levels, ages, educational backgrounds, heights, media. My son loves anime and graphic novels so he spent a lot of time reading the graphic panels. My daughter was drawn to the colorful specimen cases and all kids liked searching for insects in their cryptic environments.

Kirk Hickling

Great place to take a curious child. Cost of entry is included in price of botanical gardens.

Narine Harut

It was my first time at this place and I had very good experience, place was nicely designed with beautiful displays and live creatures, it is was fascinating and informative not only for children but for us adults too. I really enjoyed my time there and definitely will recommend to everyone.

D C

Nice museum. On the small side, however entrance fee gets you access to all the gardens. Japanese and Chinese ones were nice.

Jonathan T.

It took us approximately 20minutes to go through the entire exhibit. Most of the insects are dead and there's really not much to see. The only thing I can suggest is that if you are going to the botanical gardens, then the Insectarium is worth a look. But not the opposite. I went with my wife and two children (4 & 2)

Li Ting Wong

Its kinda small, but still fun to checkout. If you read most descriptions then it probably take around 2 hrs.

missy mohito

Fun day for my 3.5 year old. We must go again! Make sure to walk the grounds of the Botanical Gardens, it's a great place to explore.

Ryan Au

There was a field trip going on when we visited and so the place was a tad chaotic. I'm sure we would've Ed the visit a bit more if it was quieter. The live ant exhibit, where they were traveling between their two nests, was fascinating and definitely the star of the show. The rest of the insectarium was a mixture of live and preserved insects and was fun to look at.

Gerardo Rodriguez-Orellana

It was not as great as I expected based on the price. Very small and a lot of the same. Although educational, it got boring after a while. The one redeeming experience was eating food with insects that turned out very delicious and exciting.

Ali Mshasha

Great place to go if you wanna look at dead (and live) bugs all day. And why not step out to the food truck outside and have some insect-tacos and maggot falafels

Gowri Nataraj

An entire block only for insects!!! It was amazing!!! Didnot realize there are so many kinds of insects in this world!!! Great place for kids and students !!! The size of butterflies amazed me though i have never seen such big ones flying around!!!

Giovanna Chavez

Very interesting collection of specimens. Great learning experience for the whole family if visiting the botanical gardens. It's not too big.

Ian Bradbury

Lots of interesting things to see. It was a little bit small, and could have used a gift shop, but pretty fun overall

Ben Kobayashi

Creepy and cool. Not a huge place, but I suppose you don't need much space to display insects. Watching the ants carrying leaves from one tree to another was really fascinating.

Daniela Vazquezm

Very nice but small. I was hoping more from this place. Lots of insects, mostly rare ones. They could have more alive ones, they only have a small section.

Shripad Karodi

We visited on a hot day so casually strolled into this. It was fascinating to see the collection ane live display of ants carrying tree leaves. Worth the visit

Nick Stamatakis

Great place for the kids. It's part of the Botanical gardens which is quite beautiful. It's accessible by public transit. It's best you enter via rue Sherbrooke as it is closest to the more main entrance of the grounds. Great way to spend a day.

Nico Lapointe

Nice and educative place, bring your kids!

Mr XP

A small but interesting museum.

irene yagan

Beautiful showcase of variety of insects from all around the world, spectacular

Marco Passalacqua

Very interesting and very kind and prepared staff

Satish Shikhare

Mostly preserved insects. Few live insects. Allocate no more than one hour, unless you are into insects. The cafe serves food with insects mixed in - on purpose.

Annick Betancourt

I never Saw that many insects un my life. We Even has a burrito and try to eat them, we couldnt.... You just have to set your mind.

Jillian Furten

The museum brings fond memories of my time here as a child, it's the coolest place in all of Montreal.

Jocelyn Loehe

One of the first places I visited on my trip to Montreal. This is a lovely place for the nerds and bug lovers in your life to visit.

Danielle Wong

My boyfriend and I are not fond of insects, but we were up to see them at the insectarium! We've never been to one, and didn't know what to expect. It was a nice facility and the ant farm was one of the highlights. It was great being to see ants build a home for themselves! We also really enjoyed the insects they had outside the building in globes. Check it out this place out if you have the time!

Cao Dung

Great exhibit with many different items.

Sharath Bennur

Very interesting collection, whole it's small, it also reminded me of why I love insects so much. Wish there collection were larger or the exhibits we're better. Would also urge the staff to conduct more hands on insect experiences. Still highly recommended along with the Botanique Jardin

Adrian P

A neat little place to check out while in the botanical gardens. I enjoyed it more that I expected. If you go during the summer, be prepared for large groups of little kids.

Farmer Joe

Paid for parking at Biodome just to discover to have to pay again for insectarium. Insectarium is not connected to biodome. It's quite the hike with any child or stroller, especially in the snow, and outside. Decided to scrap it than pay again for parking.

Danielle

This offers an array of insects though most of them are preserved and mounted behind glass. There is a few exhibits that have live insects but really wish there was more. It's still interesting and educational to see.

Fred Ridera

Fun for kids that's for sure! I wanted to try some of their gourmet bug food but missed the boat on all the hot dishes. i did have the ice cream dipped in ants though, and it was surprisingly good!

P A

Used to come here so much in my youth. Had an ant colony and stick insects, Butterflies, among others. Very nice place.

Frank Hayes

Great place to bring your kid if he or she is in a "bug" phase!

Viktor Nagornyy

Small but interesting place. They got some nice living insects, and a big collection of dead ones.

Lunique Kero

Last time I went there I was in elementary school and I had been wanting to go for a while now. Honestly, I was disapointed. They have too many dead displays and not enough impressive live specimens and beautiful terrariums. The best is the ant colony where they actually have a wood branch bridge between 2 terrariums and you can look at the ants foraging for food and walking the bridge with little leaves, that was awesome. Other than that most of the terrariums are very tiny and the luminous information panels are annoyingly hiding half the terrarium because of their reflection against the glass. That's a very very very poor design and I'm just confused as to why they decided to make it that way rather than on the side or something where it wont obstruct the view. Contrarly to the biodome or the botanical garden where you feel like you're entering a different part of the world, the insectarium as it is now feels like a cheap insect themed zoo with very little care in term of presentation. Make those terrariums bigger and put more than 1 specie in, wouldn't there be a way to create a small ecosystem rather than cage each type of insects into multiple tiny terrariums? If you've never been I still think you should go. But I only give a 2/5 star because man, I feel it could be much much better and I *want* it to be better.

Neo Chingdao

A massive collection of insects to marvel. I loved how there were hives of bees in the walls of the gift shop.

Iraklis Varlamis

A rather small but very nice collection of insects from around the world. Kids really enjoyed the talk about 'useful' insects.

Heather Shimmin

Great variety of specimens both live and preserved. Little girls are grossed out and little boys fascinated.

Steve Troletti (Stefano)

Overrated and antiquated even after multiple renovations. Helps absorb the hefty price when coupled with other ongoing expositions at the botanical garden

Julio Eccheli

The place is nice with a great collection of insects from all the world.

nameless pushpa

The place was absolutely fascinating! They had bugs and insects from all over the world. It was hard to believe that some of them actually exist. Definitely sparked further interest in insects for me. Must visit!

Eugenia M

I was expecting more live insects, where I what we saw was a huge and great, but yet a collection of dead pinned bugs...

Mark Tietjen

Remarkable collection of bugs, including some living as well. Could maximize the experience with addition of gift shop.

Pfeiffer Edquist

amazing experience, winter was perfect timing as there were very few people there. highly recommended for any age group!

Kenneth Downs

Lots of cool bugs but it's a bit small and needs more interactive entertainment for adults and children.

नमस्ते

Very cool and educational place to take the family! Combined with the other attractions in the area, you can easily make a full day out of it.

Tsz Wai Wong

The place needs renovation. Mostly dead insects on display. At least there was someone at the end with a live insect doing a little presentation and letting people pet it. The live ant display was pretty neat tho!

Rysia Andrade

Rather small but certainly interesting. There were LOTS of specimens to see and that was great but it would be nice to see more variation in their displays and interpretative materials. Perhaps some exhibition devoted to material related to insects and not just cases and cases of specimens? We did have the opportunity to meet and hold an insect and the staff member who brought it out was very pleasent and knowledgeable. If you're planning on spending a whole day at the biodome complex and have little ones interested in bugs, then this a worthwhile stop but otherwise, it's pretty basic

jen broderick-Anderson

Fun place. Use the vending machine or food truck to try insect snacks!

Curtiss West

Super cool. If you like bugs. If not it would be awful.

Michelle Marie Tucker

This place is awesome...! never been in a place like this, is close to the botanical gardens wich are beautiful. The staff give u all the info you need about insects..

Dane Richards

I wish there was more living insects and maybe the possibility of tasting some of the insects seeing as they may become a sustainable food source for us one day

Gabriel Hache

Lots and lots of insects. Some alive, most dead. Fantastic place to learn and observe. The 2 star review is in regard to the content there, really, REALLY outdated. Good thing we went on the last day before they closed for renovation. Will definitely update the review once they open again and see how much changed and improved. Used to be amazing when i was younger, lets see if theyre up for the challenge.

Matt Woodhams

This was a nice exhibit to walk through and the staff was very nice and willing to interact and answer questions. The leaf cutter ants exhibit was really interesting to see. It's a bit small, but a nice extra included with the gardens admission.

Rajani Moses

I really didn't know we have a lot of insects in our plant.....it was amazing. I really enjoyed it.

Mohsin Bin Latheef

Recently renovated and very informative!

Hugo Palomares

Super fun and interesting. Must visit if you are at the botanical garden.

Josh Mahan

BUGS! So many glorious bugs! Still, I wish there was an insect (or any natural history) museum somewhere in the world geared a bit more toward adults.

Georgina Bassett

I'm not a big fan of bugs but this was very interesting. My kids didn't enjoy it as much as the adults did but that's because they didn't stop to read all the information. We all enjoyed the live insects and the ant colony.

Michael McGuirk

Very interesting exhibits with live insects as well as diagrams/models. It just needs better air conditioning.

Simon

The ant display is particularly cool. Creepy crawlies galore! Try the soft serve with chocolate termite coating! Get a side of crickets for extra crunch!

Christine Turgeon

Ill give 3 stars because it is interesting but theres not enough things to see/do. Youve seen everything in 20 min

Laurent De Serres Bérard

The living ants colony on a tree is really impressive, and best part of the museum. Bugsticks hidden in a forest is always surprising and many other fun insect to see. Wish though that the place was bigger and visit last longer. The price is cheap as well.

Iván F

Excellent facilities

Natalia M

Wonderful! Excellent insects, I had a lot of fun.

Sheldon L

Small and not very interactive. I was expecting live bugs for my son to see, not hundreds pinboard insects with a few live enclosures.

Moon S

Interesting museum of insects close to the botanical garden of Montreal. Is it one of the biggest in the world, excellent indoor activity for kids to learn about arthropodes, the life of the little beasts

David St-Hilaire

Fun and educative outing for all ages. They even sometime have animators letting handle done insects, and have an insect based good restaurants in the summer. The visit is relatively short though.

Lee Mitchell

The leaf cutter ants were busy farming their fungus. Such a joy to see them up close.

Ruth Lucas

definitely go if you’re nearby, worth the visit. lots of information learned.

Dilip Rao

Lots of insects. Children would love it. Never knew the number of beetles and butterflies there are. I too learnt something about distinguishing the worker bees from the queen & drones. Doesn't take long but enjoyable, esp. for children.

Kate Hendry

Very crowded and overwhelming. There is a cool display where ants crawl across branches from their home section to a feeding section.

Richard Cunningham

I've definitely seen better-done live-insect exhibits, where interactivity was more emphasized. The collection of pinned-insects was, however, rather impressive.

Bogdan Andrei

A very nice place to visit and good to bring small kids to learn about insects.

Shannon Way

Very cute installstion. Rather small and consisted mostly of butterfly's and beetles. It was still great for smaller children and has some really very beautiful specimens. It comes as part of a package with the botanical gardens so if you pay for one you get the other regardless they come as a pair. So for both of them it's worth it. If the price was for just the insectarium maybe not so much. During the summer they have chefs that come out and cook bugs you can eat like fried grasshoppers ( All the rage on Thailand ) very worth it if you are adventurous.

sawman88

My son loved the bugs they even let us hold one

joe albert

Great combination of live exhibits and preserved specimens. Sure to be of interest to all ages & backgrounds! :)

Daniel Herda

Small, but great for kids. The exhibits are signed in both French and English, but the live shows are in French only.

Deborah Penham

AWESOME!!! This place was the highlight of the trip to the botanical gardens. My favorite was watching the REAL leaf cutter ants tromping back and forth between the live tree and their nest. I mean....it was so freaking cool! The beetle displays were also incredible. I was less enthralled by the giant spiders...but that’s because I’m not big into spiders...

Jordan Kenney

Pretty neat, wish they had a bigger live insect selection.

Anthony Englot

This was a lot of fun and very educational. Many insects and arachnids on display and crawling around. A lot of well laid out and interesting information.

Eun Kim

Great place to see insects and the botanical garden outside is beautiful!

Adnan Ali

A very good place to bring kids for education. Although I was expecting it to be bigger than what it found out to be. Entry ticket is included in botanical garden visit which is $20.50 for adult outside QC. I would say it is bit expensive for what it offers. Average time spent in insectarium is 1h-2h.

Matthew Cheung

Really cool place really fun seeing the live insects and learning about them. But the tickets plus parking are kinda overpriced But good experience

Matthew Cheung

Really cool place really fun seeing the live insects and learning about them. But the tickets plus parking are kinda overpriced But good experience

afshin fathi

It is a beautiful garden to visit, try the Chinese garden after 7, there are a lot of things to do and it will take several hours to visit the garden.

Chris

Really cool place to learn about all different types of insects.

Abhi R

live insects collection is small , But it does have few extra ordinary once

Sayyam Mehmood

If you are a nature lover this place is for you. You will see the life of these tiny creatures from few inches. Must visit place for kids. Staff is very hospitable.

Bryn Williams-Jones

Fun place for a visit with kids, especially when combined with Butterflies in Liberty

Diamond Dave

I'm not a fan of insects to start with... however, it was an impressive collection and I was able to avoid displays with scarier content...

Gerald Barbiero

The ant display was good. Was too humid in there and left within 5 minutes

Gabriel Lia

A bit small but you get access when you take the Jardin Botanique pass.

Francois Goulet

Good place learn bc a lot and we can see live insects too!

Amanda

I thought it would be an interactive experience, but it was nothing more than a few displays of insect carcasses. They were pretty, but, it's nothing special.

Farah Lalasingh

Filled with all the creepy crawlies that all insect appreciator will love. Very informative on their life cycle.

K

This is an amazing place. Excellent activity for kids. They will be amazed and impressed by the quantity of living insects and the rest of the collection. If you are visiting Montréal, you have to go here. If you are living in Montreal, this is a place to visit from time to time. I highly recommend.

babak tamaddon

The Montreal Insectarium is a natural history museum located in Montreal, featuring a large quantity of insects from all around the world. It is the largest insect museum in North America and among the largest insectariums worldwide. If you like to know more about insects, this is the place to visit.

Tyler Wright

Loved it. Lots to see and discover. Great place for kids

ANTS WORLD

a very interesting place to visit with insects from most of the world and a giant ants nest with cameras so you can see in detail how a colony works and functions very different and cool.

E.J. Flores (Mister Slapnuts)

Great place, information is very thorough. Kids will definitely enjoy the bugs.

Fe Li

The Insectarium was good, it had many models of insects. The good thing is, you do not have to buy extra tickets, it comes with the Botanical Garden tickets.

Ann Charles

The best way to see this place is through the eyes of a child who loves insects, otherwise it is a pretty dull, but expensive place to visit. It is pretty hard to see the living insects. The displays make it awkward due to the lighting. I think that a visit in the woods would be more rewarding.

Abhijeet Naik Aroskar

Outstanding collection of insects. Particularly liked the ants colony.

Jenn Woodhams

The Insectarium was fun and interesting. We thought there would be a little more to it like a butterfly pavilion. We enjoyed the exhibits of insects and learned about some interesting looking insects I would not want to come across in real life. The Leaf Cutter Ant Colony was amazing! That was the highlight for us. I don't think this was worth the price of admission.

Michaela Scriver

Beautifully organized little museum of insects, both live and preserved. I came here a few years ago and vividly remember their ant display. They had 2 boxes set up with a branch connecting them, and you could watch the ants, in perfect formation, move back and forth from one box to the other, collecting bits of leaves for their habitat. It was a unique experience and I enjoyed it thoroughly. They also have a wide collection of preserved insects, and some absolutely stunning displays of butterflies and beetles.

Matthew Olsthoorn

Great if you like insects. A bit small.

Mike Sotzing

Super fun just watching the kids go crazy on the exhibits. It was a blast seeing them so into it!

Alyssa Joseph

Admission was free with admission to the garden. Building was small. Lots of samples of dead insects. We were looking forward to seeing more live insects. There were only a few live exhibits.

Ron Pepper

Great fun, tons of insects some alive.

D Duong

Very educational and alot of different species of insects.

Patti M Anderson

The insectarium has both pinned insects and live insects. It has a natural history museum flavour. One can tour the exhibit in less than an hour.

Evan

Awesome if you're into insects. It's a short (uphill) walk from the biodome. If you have an issue walking distance or its freezing out, I'd driver from the biodome to it. Lots of living and preserved insects. It's secluded and not huge so it's quieter and less busy than the biodome.

Connie Curran

Great place for the kids to discover bugs. Lots of fun exhibits at just the right level for the young set!

Jiana Daco

Super fun place to learn about insects! Fun for adults and kids. Lots of really beautiful butterflies, live insects and interesting information!

Jon Killeen

Loved seeing all the different displays and insects, with just enough education to make everyone happy! Will definitely be back.

Sarah Enoch

Super cool place. Not that big, not fun to walk to from subway when it's super cold. (Underground walkway from Olympic park was not available.)

André PP

I loved it as well as the botanic garden! Its just one more attraction of this wonderfull place to be visite, but its worth.

Sasha I

Fun and educational but is geared more towards kids. It was smaller than I was expecting but the entry fee gives you access to the botanical gardens as well. Needs more variety of live insects, they are mostly stick bugs and some beetley things.

Samantha Achidi

The setting of the museum is well made, like most art/cultural in montreal it’s well maintained and surprisingly enough it’s not excessively expensive. The staff is helpful and the experience is for each to discover.

Mathieu Jacques

Large variety of insects from around the world. Good place to visit on a rainy day.

Cedric Yargeau

Soo many bugs!! Very cool experience, a must see for all in the vasinity and very affordable-- especially if you're a student!!

Babatunde Oyelohunnu

I will recommend this place for any tourist with kids and I bet with you, you won't regret it. Beautiful place to visit.

Mike Davis

Really neat selection of insects but I wish there were more spiders.

Erin Toal

It has really cool stuff to look at. It's not big you can walk through in 40 minutes to an hour but it's very educational and you can go walk the Botanical Gardens right next door.

Vikram Narayanan

Mostly for the kids... Highlight is the ant hill and the live insect which you can hold onto your hands and get pics clicked.. :)

S.K. Tan

Had fun with my family here. Not a big insectarium but lots to explore.

Anna Maria Pinotti

A beautiful place, well taken care of and many interesting things to see.

Pasan Wanigarathne

This is not what I expected after reading online reviews. Not worth spending the time. Rose garden is worse than my yard, and only new things are the Japanese and Chinese gardens.

José Rangel Piñate

Good place to see different kids of insect lives or death. It is not so interactive.

Mary McDermott

Good place, could use a little work, been the same for 20 years, a little play area would be good, not only for kids but little kids, maybe involving insects, a slide or something ...

Iyand Peterson

I was expecting many more live insects to be present but none the less the insectarium does have a good 10 to 15 interesting insects present.

Laura Cobb

Awesome display of mult-colored beetles and butterflies. Live exhibit of leaf cutters at work!

Gordon Thompson

Huge amount of insects on display. I wish there were more facts about individual insects. You need a couple.of hours to see everything.

James J

small but very intersting museum spent about 45 min here if you pay for botanical garden you can enter this museum for free

Penny Oliver

Very good museum. Big enough to keep adults occupied but not too large to overwhelme younger visitors

Alison MacGregor

Nice to see all the specimens but had hoped for a little more in the way of living creatures. Would have been disappointed if I'd paid an entry for this alone but as it's included in the botanics ticket, it's worth including in your visit to the park.

Robert Flannagan

Didn't live up to expectations. Mostly displays vs live insects. Decent way to spend an hour.

Laura Matos

It's incredible all kind of insects that exists, awesome!!!

Adrian G

Very Very nice...

顏聚享

My second time visiting this site, small but fascinating. Here you can find live leafcutter ants doing their job as you see in the documentary, and a great number of specimen in good condition.

Mark Hansford

Surprisingly good. Free admission when you go to the botonical gardens. Lots of bugs to look at. Best for kids, but still lots for the big kids to check out.

carla gatpo

The visit in the Insectarium is included in the ticket of the entrance for the botanical garden. It was a really interesting experience.

Arun

It's k. If u like insects much better. Otherwise just time pass.

Phillip Hogel

Beautiful spot to spend the day with the insects and then outside in the gardens! Great for kids!

Sebastien Tremblay

Very cool but due for a change, since its been the same for a while. Ant exhibit is cool.

Avi Tanny

Very cool ! Lots of really interesting bugs in very clear display cases . Also the botanical gardens are connected. Would highly recommend.

William Evans

Good place to interest kids but very limited in terms of entertainment value. Not as much interaction as I had imagined but overall worth a visit.

Dora Lann

Huge display of cased and caged insects! Gross, but definitely fun to check out

Aja Strommen

Pretty cool place with lots of interesting insects and facts. Kinda small, but definitely worth it!

bizhan zarea

There are many different insect species. They are very amazing and beautiful. I recomment that to any body who travel to montreal.

Robert Vincent

If you like insects this place is heaven. If not it's pretty cool too.

Sam Aylward

Smaller than I imagined. But when paired with the other attractions its good value

Anik S

Very small, takes 40mins to visit the whole place. Aside from the ant farm, very few interactive exhibits. Very expensive for what it is.

Amanda Saunders

It was fun looking at the different insects, both alive and dead, and reading about their habitats but it is really more focused on children and we were hard pressed to avoid tripping over them as there seemed to be several buses worth there at the same time as us.

Mathew Backlund

The insectarium is a wonderful spot. Went with a group of 4 with 2 infants ; lots of different bugs to see and read up on, and the info panels are in English and French. My one year old son was not bored and we spent easily an hour looking at all the exhibits. The staff is also very courteous and friendly. We went during the off season so only curious what it would be like when the guides and presentations are happening. Thank you for a great time! :D

Edie Lassonde

Amazing collection and information on bugs. Not brave enough to eat them though. My grandson loved it.

Adam Thompson

A great collection. Kids loved it. $20 per adult is $12 to park is a steep price to pay for the size. Took about 45 minutes. All due fairness we skipped the botanical gardens which is included. Unfortunately the biodome was closed because the package would have been great.

Nouman Iqbal

Nice place to visit. Amazing collection of insects

James Mailloux

It's free to enter with a botanical garden ticket and if you like bugs it's the place Don't miss the worker ant colony it's amazing

Elisa Santini

The insectarium is well organized with a lot of different insects alive and not. The food at the restaurant isn't good, there are only a few cold sandwiches, but there is a place where you can get insect food that is supposed to be very good.

Ikoth

Great place to go and nice visit, honestly the least exciting between planetarium/gardens/insectarium, but that just proves the value of the other places rather than the lack there of of the insectarium! Highly recommended, 10/10 date idea!

Annie Calvo

Great place to see a variety of insects! Great for kids!

Michelle B. montpetit

WAIST of time ! 20 minutes and it’s over ! There’s isn’t experience of the bugs dipped in chocolate, there so many things missing it’s The most horrible experience plus paying 40$ for the parking and the entrences I could of put my 40$ somewhere else .. go somewhere else seriously

Gladis Almendarez

Family's time, beautiful place

Avi T

I was absolutely fascinated by this place I wanted to go home and buy bugs online! It's really cool. Going in the summer would be better as it's connected to botanical gardens.

Jan Kurman

A huge and amazing assortment of insects that everyone should see.

L Z

Impressive place wher you can educate and entertain children and adults alike.

Sherry Lee

It's great for little kids but very small and you can finish exhibit within 15 mins

James Marsh

Fun experience visiting during the butterfly event, and reasonable year-long family pass cost. Could do with more amenities on site for kids.

T

My sister loved the scenic area and all the information on different insects. Worth stopping by

Jack Smith

Super fun for the family. Great activities but a little pricy.

Duncan Pauly

It is OK but nothing special. Very few live exhibits with the majority of displays being collections of dead insects.

Cameron Campbell

Meh. Some cool bugs. Great spot for kids.

LUCY GABOURG

Nature culture and discovery

Viviana Martínez

Interesting and nice! Most of the insects aren't alive. Educational :)

Mahmut Bilgener

This exihibition is very well organized to teach basic knowledges about insects and their relatives to the people and the school kids. It is worth to spend a few hours there in order to learn more about insects.
