Summer field Zoo located here in Belvidere, Illinois is a nice small zoo. The animals are well taken care of. The special active around Christmas time with Santa's house and Meeting the Reindeer, seeing Sparkle the elf was very cute for the kids.

Summerfield is a wonderful rescue zoo that has many animals for the kids to see. There is a live animal presentation done during normal business hours that allows you to touch some of the animals. Our favorite animals at this zoo are the hyenas. The staff is always friendly and helpful. A must place to visit, especially if you live in the general area.

We had a really good time here. Our family came early in the afternoon, and spent about 2.5 hours here. We were able to witness a 3pm animal show where they brought out a variety of small creatures we could interact with. The hyena was really a treat to see, as was the camel. It really is a nice place, you have to look past the simplicity and understand that you are not visiting a state/city funded zoo. Dont be afraid to chat with the employees, they are really nice and informative. Wolves were a treat to see as well, be sure to visit their gofundme to get the Wolves a better enclosure.!

We had a great time at Summerfield zoo! As everyone says, it is smaller, but on a hot summer day, it was just perfect! I highly recommend spending a few ext a dollars to feed the baby and adult goats! We had a blast! We will definitely be returning!

I planned the Sloth Experience for my 11 yr old daughter as her xmas gift. What a super cool experience. We fed Flash butternut squash and zucchini while we pet him. The keeper was very kind and full of sloth facts. Although not huge, this zoo has many different animals including zebras and reindeer. Super cool place, I want to go back in the Spring.

There are some animals there. There is petting zoo area with baby goats and probably some other animals. I didn't go to that area so I can't say exactly what is there. They have: wolves, reindeer, emus, foxes, horses, ostrich, alligators, chickens, hens, tortoises, turtles, hares, various birds -some that could be pets others not, some big cats, some animal that is a close relative to raccoons, a zebra, a camel, and a pig. I know I probably missed some because an area was blocked off but that's most of them. A lot of the cages for the animals seemed awfully small for living spaces; especially the wolves, who need space to run. There are quite a few animals that don't have an option to get out of the sun when it is directly over head. I felt bad for most of the animals that had no cooler space to escape to in the middle of a hot day. Most of the animals seemed small for their size. If it weren't for things in this paragraph, this place would probably get 4 stars. There are many positive things about this place too. I've never been able to get so close to any of the non-farm/pet animals that you'd see in a zoo. Most of the cages, for the dangerous animals, have a few feet of clearance between you and the animal; with a double cage to ensure that you are safe. There is a nursery for the baby animals that they have open on certain days. There's an equine program that might include a camel (?). You can volunteer to help out with the animals (?). And I'm sure there are many other things that I didn't see or don't know about. It's a small zoo with a small amount of animals. If you're looking for a large space to roam, or think that this will be a typical zoo, this is not that place. But, if you're looking for a nice time with the family and you want to get closer to some animals than you would at a regular zoo, this is that place.

This is a fantastic place! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the exhibits and were amazed how much closer you could get to each area to take pictures as opposed to some of the other zoos we'd been to in the past. The layout is great where people aren't on top of each other. Cute gift store, and plenty of places to sit and eat or take a break. The petting zoo area is great for kids. Super friendly staff everywhere we went. Could not have asked for a better experience. We will definitely go back. Highly recommend!

Kinda thought "ZOO" didn't exactly fit the name of this establishment. "Farm" is more accurate. Not a whole lot of exotic animals to see and it's a pretty small plot of land for them. But I did think the sloth encounter was pretty cool. Flash was really soft on his back and just the cutest. He posed for us many times and started getting a little cranky after too long, as I expected. He can't stay out too long and it was snowing when we went to see him (he was enclosed inside, but I think he still knew lol) Rick and Danielle were very informative and treated us great :) My fiancee and family loved the trip and will need to come back out when it's warmer. Thanks Summerfield Zoo!

It's a cute small zoo. Perfect for a quick trip with the kids. You get to feed baby goats bottles, feed big goats,ride a pony or draft horse. There is a petting zoo and every day they have a educational program on some of the animals, some of which you can pet. There is also concessions and a gift shop.

I wouldn't classify this as a zoo but a collection of diverse animals. I am concerned about the African Gray Parrot in the cage with one branch and very few toys, chinchillas in a small two-level cage, feather-plucked blue macaws and lack of fresh water in the enclosures. I was particularly disturbed by the swans EATING lost guineafowl chicks. It's terrible. I guess if your kids want to see animals then I guess you can come here. I had an average experience with concerns for animal care.

We picked a very hot day to go and unfortunately the wolf area was closed for remodeling of sorts but the family and I still enjoyed ourselves very much! We would of loved to have been able to see the majestic wolf while we were there because it's one of our favorite animals but then again that just gives us a reason to plan to visit again ????

I think the owners truly care about animals and try to rescue what they are able to. It is a good zoo for younger kids but also for older kids and adults. It is small and can be covered in a couple hours. If it’s been raining wear shoes you don’t mind getting a bit muddy. Having a small farm based zoo is a unique feature to the Belvidere area.

Summerfield Zoo is a hidden gem! The zoo is small but there is a good variety of animals for the kids to see and learn about. They have an educational segment at 11a and 1p-we learned about hedgehogs, bearded dragons, alligators, bob cats, and linx. The grounds are very clean and they encourage and offer hand sanitizer after touching animals. The barns were clean as well-they smelled like fresh animal bedding not animal waste. We visited the gift shop and although they did have a wide variety of stuffed animals we were more interested a smaller and less inexpensive souvenir such as a key chain, magnet, etc. Overall the kids had a great time visiting the zoo! We'll definitely visit again.

We left with mixed feelings about our experience. A little pricey for a small town zoo, $62 for 3 kids which included feeding the goats and pony rides. The animal show was really cute and fun for the kids. The trip ended badly. My friend was helping her daughter onto the pony from the side, when it turned and kicked her in the knee. I think he was hot and burnt out from all the rides. Thank God it was an adult who was kicked. The pony instructor apologized but didn't really know what to do. Long story short, after speaking with a couple rude employees, being blamed for the incident, and being told they get kicked by horses all the time, my friend was given some alcohol to clean her knee. We won't be back!

My wife and I enjoyed visiting Summerfield Zoo. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon. Definitely recommend bringing your kids or just coming as a couple. Stay for the show. It is very informative and you get to touch some of the young animals. You can also bottle feed the little goats or kids can take a pony ride. They have a nice variety of animals that are all taken care of very well.

Friendly staff. Just be warned. I wouldn't really classify this as a "Zoo". More like a bigger children's farm/petting zoo. Very small with some fun things to see. Can get through in about an hour. Probably in different times there would have been more to see and do. A little pricey for the size.

Summerfield is a most eclectic zoo. They have an atypical collection of animals. Love the daily program and bottle feeding the baby goats. I highly recommend Summerfield Zoo for a unique experience. However the washroom facilities need improvement. Understand the porta-potties, but provide handwashing station near them.

Raindeer were nice. A little crowded. Can't really see raindeer to many people allowed to visit at once. Also very muddy walking in. Cost ten dollars to enter. Little high.

Very nice, small zoo. It's a nice break from going to the bigger zoos in the area and a lot less crowds. The animal demonstration was informative and they brought out a wide range of animals too. We would definitely go back again.

Many exotic animals that you dont see just any where. Small enough to go through easily with little kids yet big enough to keep the attention of little ones. Very friendly staff. You can buy tickets to ride the ponies or bottle feed the baby goats.

Nice little zoo,close to home, with a good variety of animals both wild and domestic. I do have concern for the wolf that they have. I am not an animal or wolf expert but it has such a small run and seems very unhappy. They dont let visitors go up close to the wolf's run. Its been like that all 3 times I have visited the zoo. If indeed its not the correct habitat for this beautiful animal, or it needs socialization, maybe they should consider rehoming it to another zoo. JMHO

Awesome place to take the kids that's nice and close. The price is right and I was very surprised at the amount of animals there. Animals all look great and well cared for. For a few extra bucks the daughter got to bottle feed some baby goats too. Definitely worth the trip if you're looking for something fun to do.

A nice little place - nothing fancy but the animals seemed clean and well cared for. Some of the enclosures are hard for kids to view - i.e. fences or windows too tall - could use some stools or steps to help with that. Also, the goats are VERY intense and forward about being fed - they literally mob you and climb up your back and chew on your hair and clothes - I thought it was fun but probably a little too intense for most kids.

Summerfield Zoo is small in size but has so much to offer visitors! You can see so many different types of animals from Alligators to Zebras! It's privately run and many of the animals that reside there are rescues!

I thought the animals were depressed. There are signs everywhere to fundraise for better habitats which is fine, but their habitats now are dismal. Australian animals and arctic wolves do not belong in a farm environment. You can especially tell with the horses...they are so sad, anti-social, and one of them was very dirty and biting. I'm no sure why there are so many positive reviews. I'm no tree-hugger or PETA pro-activist...these animals are legit depressed.

The fact there is a zoo in belvidere is great! The staff was polite and pretty much laid back. The fleas that attacked us near the pony rides were horrible, but other than that it was fun for the little ones.

What I liked about it was that it was quaint and nothing fancy.But also not expensive.They had a petting show at noon and you could feed bottles to the goats in a large fenced in area.I would say this wouldn't be good for older children.

Great for a small, apparently family owned zoo. Home to a wide variety of animals that you wouldn't typically see at a petting zoo. Pony rides, baby goat petting zoo, and animal encounter talk/show were our favorites. Perfect 3-hour experience for our 2 year old.

Ofcourse we came on the day where it was kind of wet, cold and windy and muddy everywhere, but it was smaller than i was expecting. They do have cool animals such as bobcat, cougar, hyena, camel and etc. Unusual for small zoo. The prize animals of course are the reindeers.

It was so fun but it costs 40$ to bottle feed the goats (for 8 bottles). Very expensive but you can feed them with normal got food for 1$.

Great place to take your kids to see different kinds of animals. It's not very large which is nice because my toddlers can handle walking around it without whining. The zoo has more of a farm feeling. Animals seem like a part of their family. They are taken care with love. Each of them is special, has character. Every year we enjoy coming here. The donkey, reindeers and lemurs are our favorite to see every time.

It's a nice place to visit that's close by. The price is reasonable as I know it's necessary to run a private zoo. Everything was clean and organized. My only concern is the alligator, I'd love for it to be more friendly for children to see. It's not the safest practice to hold them up over the fence. Of course the alligator is small, but maybe a plexiglass window would be helpful, if that's safe for the gator as well. Of course, I'm saying this as spectator, not someone who knows what's best for the animal.
