The wild lights were great. First time at the zoo but we'll definitely be back. Loved all the details, descriptions, and late night snack options.

Awesome place, you need more than one visit though

Casey Mattern

We went to see the a Asian lanterns, but got an extra treat as a lot of the animals were still out at 7:30pm. They seemed much more relaxed than you see during the day with all the crowds looking at them. And the lanterns were beautiful.

The Louisville Zoo holds special memories for me. Growing up in Etown, the Zoo was a special place to visit. I remember particularly coming up for Halloween at the Zoo. Of course COVID has changed that, but I have hope that the joy of going booth to booth continues in the future. As a kid, it seemed endless. And now as an adult, I’m happy with the way things have grown and changed. The Wild Lights exhibit was excellent. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a vegan option as well.

Jessi Hartman

A great learning experience for children. My only problem is that the “Wild Burgers” located near the water park has terrible food. The burger bun was soaking wet in the sauce, it fell apart immediately. The chicken had so much pepper on it that it was unbearable. Zoo is 5/5, Wild Burger is 1/5

A lot of the indoor exhibits were closed due to covid, but all the outdoor animals were out. Everything seemed really clean and the employees were nice and helpful. Would reccomend going.

We absolutely love the Louisville Zoo! There is always lots to see and do. Clean environments, clean exhibits, and friendly, helpful staff are some of the things that help make this a great place to visit, for everyone. I'm a big fan of the way the zoo has taken a stance of being a rescue, helping animals that need a safer location and help. The activities for children and adults are wonderful. Throughout the year they'll have child specific a activities to educate and entertain. They have various events for adults after-hours, which also serve as fundraising for the zoo. We recommend the Louisville Zoo ????

The Zoo was great. My 6 yr old son and I had an amazing time

Indoor exhibits were all closed during my visit so it's difficult to give a thorough review. Only took about 2 hours to view everything. The park was clean and they had lots of unique species including 2 different types of tigers. Overall it seems like a nice zoo

The zoo is always a great place to take the kids on a nice day, during the summer keep an eye out for all of the fun family oriented events. Like these lights for example.

We love coming here. The exhibits are set up in a way that it's never difficult to see the animals, the carousel is beautiful, and the activities they have going on seasonally are also great. The butterfly exhibit is one of my favorites. We also love being able to pet the goats and today we got to do the wallaroo walkabout for the first time. So, so cool. Staff has always been great as well. Be aware that there are some pretty intense hills, but there are plenty of places to take breaks for those who need it and multiple playgrounds as well. Lots of fun every time.

We had a great visit to the "Wild Lights" at the zoo. Wonderful paper creations of animals from across the planet. Animated and lighted sculptures as well as an amazing dance party area for the kids. Highly recommend you attend this spectacular special installation here.

Wonderful zoo! We love the layout and the diversity of the animals. Lots of great vantage points to get a close view of everything from rhinos to tigers to bongos. Really enjoyed how close you get and how much room there was so it doesn't feel overly crowded.

Even during the restrictive conditions caused by COVID, there is so much to see here. This zoo rivals zoos in much larger cities in terms of both atmosphere and exhibits. The path is well-marked and there is nice and wide. There are "skip" paths, if you want a shorter route. The staff was all welcoming and friendly. I'll definitely be back once this COVID stuff is over!

Luna Jackson

I love the Louisville Zoo. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and it's still fun and exciting every time I go. My most recent visits were to see the Wild Lights display, and it was STUNNING! Made me see my beloved zoo in a whole new light. Can't wait for everything to open back up so I can see all of the animals again and maybe ride a camel!

Still my favorite zoo in america. I grew up coming here and I have worked here and I have visited many times. For guests, it’s a great experience. A large variety of animals in beautiful enclosures. For zoo enthusiasts and those interested in conservation it’s a great learning tool and gem of a place. The animals are provided so much enrichment and rotational exhibits such as The Islands are revolutionary in design. The exhibits aren’t just exhibits they’re immersive and tell stories for those paying attention. For kids, it makes for very fun imaginative playing where you can pretend you’re really in Alaska/Canada in Glacier Run or really in Indonesia in the Islands or really in the Congo studying gorillas in Gorilla Forest. It may be a small zoo and therefore seem less impressive than some in bigger cities but this will always be my favorite zoo.

Had a great time with my family. The gorilla was too cool and super smart. Kind of a show off but the crowd including me loved it. Rare albino alligator was a sight to see and the new snow leopard exhibit was neat. Petting zoo was friendly and it was a great experience for the whole family. Anyone that's in Louisville should make it an event.

Its still a bit crazy in the world today. This was a nice escape. The zoo tries to provide a safe place and let the kids be. Yes you have to wait to go into each enclosure but no more than a minute.

75 degree gorgeous day. Just need all of the exhibit open. We didn't see any bears or Penguins. Couldn't see all of gorillas

RitaMaria monroe

It was amazing added so many new exhibits absolutely one of the best places to spend the afternoon at, only problem was the sun and the heat but that's not the zoo's fault!????

We had a great time at the zoo with our daytime tickets, then came back later with our light show tickets. They are separate and you do have to leave by 6 and return for the lightshow. Both times were great!

Matheus Bender

I've been there with my friend Connor during summer and we had a blast. I am glad to meet King Louie and I even got a stuffed toy of him in the gift shop. The Louisville Zoo does a great job in preserving endangered species and rescuing animals and I appreciate their job. It is a great place to improve your knowledge about different animals and understand the importance of preserving our environment.

Michael Barnes

Wonderful experience. I had a good day out with family. I wish some of the animals had better outdoor habits. That's why I didn't give a five star. You are getting close though.

We often pick random things to do in our city or surrounding area. Making memories for our son to remember forever is so important. We hadn't been to the zoo in a while and wanted to check it out before we decided on getting a pass this …

Renee Coleman

We were there for the Asian Lantern Festival, not particularly to see the animals. They were a bonus. The biggest problem I experienced during this trip was that the course of light displays had a lot of hills. I have to push my wife in a wheelchair. She cannot manipulate a Mobility scooter. The only other detractor from the experience was the people who had no regard for others and would crowd in front of us when I was trying to take family photos. A lot of the same people were not wearing masks.

Priscilla Merrow

I'm not saying this was a real bad visit but for the money it cost our family it was not worth it. Most of the exhibits were closed and most of the animals that were out were so far away and just laying down because of the heat. We did see a few and took a few pictures, thank goodness for zoom lenses. If you are traveling and have other options of some family entertainment I may try something else till they get the place completely up and going, no matter what the day of the week is. If that was the reason why nothing was open, then have a weekday price to match how much you can participate in. I do believe that it could be, could be being the key here, a nice zoo.

The light sculptures were up for their event and they were exciting and fun. The website says their indoor exhibits were still closed but most were still open. The singular path to follow made the flow really nice and most exhibits had multiple view points making it easy to see the animals wherever they are. Making the complete loop took us 3.5 hours, taking our time at no rush.

Celeste Forslund

Awesome experience at the zoo. Wild Lights Asian Lantern Festival is beautiful to walk through.

The louisville zoo has improved greatly over the years. I use to take my son when he was young...and there was a lot more "walking in sun" between exhibits. Now the zoo has added more horticulture and canopy and the splash park helps as well when you have a hot/tires kiddo! Also, wider array of animals now!!! Great employees and no lines. Easy to buy online and get in quick! Thanks Louisville zoo. I know your probably short staffed but doing great with what you have!!

The zoo is always a great place to visit on a nice weekend. Today the animals were all out and everything was re-opened to the public, including the meta zoo which I haven't seen open in over a year. Also the dinosaur animatronics add even more to enjoy. If your complaint is parking or how busy the place is or even the food prices it's the zoo and that's not ever going to change.

E Holly

All the animals seemed happy, healthy, and well cared for. Because of the heat and thunderstorms the day we were visiting the animals were taken special care of which we love to see! Gift shop was nice, bathrooms we're very clean, pathways were tidy and easily walked. Spent all day and saw everything. The volunteers were super helpful and eager to talk about the animals. It was such a great day. Thanks from PA

As members, we love this zoo. We have been members for multiple years with the exception of 2020. We renewed for 2021 thinking things would eventually get more back to normal. We have had a hard time being able to get weekend reservations. Hoping they will be allowed to open more spots soon. Word to the wise- book early. We’ve not been able to get an entry the past two weekends. EDIT: Reservations are no longer required for members. The buildings are all open and the indoor penguins are back. The splash pad is so much fun!

Louisville Zoo is always a great place to go for family friends or just by yourself. We went to the wild nights me and my little girl and it was fantastic. We bought some light up masks that were in the gift shop and everybody was asking about them. It's always a great time in fact we walked around three times. We got there early enough to still have plenty of daylight and I walked around the zoo. As we walked around we heard about the wild nights that were happening later on in the evening after 6. So we got tickets for it and and 6 came around it really wasn't that dark so we walked around it anyways. By the time we got to the end it was getting dark so we walked around again. Great times. Some photos look as if they were taken during the day but that is bc my phone has a night mode.

"It is just a linear path." I heard my middle child say. Yeah? A single direction with no choose your own adventure? That is exactly what this is. Thanks Covid! A zoo is a two fold thing for me. One, I appreciate that these animals are caged up in a small environment so I can see them without traveling the world. Two, these poor things are caged up in a small environment so I can see them without traveling the world. Everything indoors is closed, for the most part, except food and bathrooms. It is a circle path around the park. They allow only a certain number of people in per hour, plan for that! It is clean, nicely landscaped, and contains a good amount of animals. There is beer available for those that need an alcohol buzz while looking at animals or just cannot make the 2 hour event without it. The selection is limited, but...

A wonderful Zoo where the animals are very well cared for and loved. They host many things for everyone and give back to the community. The place can be very packed, but if you’re not in a rush it’s not ever a big deal. The best time to go is in the morning, very few people. There are 3 parks inside the Zoo, one is a little water park! All are included with passes inside. There is a carousel that you can go on, adults can go on free if the child is small enough so they can be monitored. There is also a train you can ride through the zoo (and it’s so fun!!) The food inside is just amazing (but PRICEY!) and the proceeds go towards the animals. I think you are allowed to bring your own snacks (though I’m not sure). They have strollers you can rent and a tram you can ride inside the park (not included with day passes)

The Wild Lights exhibit at the zoo is a testament to their commitment to be creative and mix the arts to drive traffic and add something cool to our community. With Covid restrictions in place, I appreciated the signage for proper mask wearing and reserved times for entrance. What I struggled with was how crowded it still was, despite those time reservations. Also, while there was signage posted, there was not enough staff to enforce any kind of mask regulations in the zoo. My family struggled to enjoy the light display because at least 50% of the park-goers did not have a mask at all or wore it improperly (coughing and talking and sneezing outside their masks). While in line for the carousel, the staff did a good job reminding resistant guests to please wear a mask, even after receiving rude, abusive comments from those not following the safety rules. At least we were outside, but folks not wearing masks were not good about keeping 6 feet+ distance despite the fact that we were in wide open spaces. This discouraged us a bit, as this was our first visit to the zoo in over 2 years, and have a lot of fond memories here. I wish they would commit more staff to enforcing community safety throughout the zoo and exhibits.

Amy Harrison

Even though the zoo opened at 10 all the stands were closed. It was nice that it wasn't crowded.

One really nice thing is that I never felt like I was forced to do anything I could just walk around at my own speed. A large array of animals made for a good 3/4 hour adventure. They allow carry in so we didn't have to pay the high prices for food and refreshments that most places have.

A lot better mix of animals than what I was expecting. We went 6/11/21. Unfortunately there are some things that haven't reopened due to covid restrictions, so we weren't able to enjoy everything. I was thinking of knocking a star off because the park was a little trashy / short staffed but knowing the staffing issues that are going on in Louisville I'm just happy they're able to be open and operating as they are. I thought their was a great assortment of animals, I liked how the park was divided into sections. A lot of great information posted on each animal where they're located. My favorite was the elephants, bongo(to me it looks like a cross between a fat jersey cow and a gazelle) and the crocodile and penguins. We will definitely be going back when everything reopens. There's a water park, carousel, face painting stations and kids playground we look forward to be able to use the next time we go. Carousel and playground was open, but kids can never get enough.

Andrew GottWorth

We love the zoo my sister and I always take our kiddos together and we always have a blast. I will say...this last time there were a ton of bees. The zoo could definitely incorporate a bee hive or something that would keep them from literally swarming every single trash can in the whole zoo. We packed a picnic lunch to enjoy as a family and honestly couldn't find anywhere to sit without at least 20 bees swarming us. Its unsafe for people in the area who have bad bee allergies...but other than that it was still a nice time.

Animals, enclosures, zoo design, and gift shop are GREAT. Minus 3 stars for our visit due to: ALL but one food-serving concessions CLOSED with no notice; low quality at concessions (had to go for order corrections 3 times in Africa and don't order the black bean burger under any circumstances), attractions closed/closed early with no notice (dromedary ride), HUGE number of bees everywhere including one honeybee that lost it's life stinging my son in the neck. I understand what the zoo is trying to do with the bees, but it had a huge impact on the park experience and is a risk for kids. This could be a 5 star experience with a few fixes which makes me feel only more let down.

Visited this zoo for the first time on Saturday. Definitely in the top three zoos that I've ever been to in my lifetime. The gorilla exhibit alone is worth the trip but everything was outstanding and all of the animals were out. The staff was friendly and we were even lucky enough to talk to one of the animal handlers who gave us a lot of information about the meerkats. I've been to a lot of Zoos, but Louisville Zoo really stood out because of how close you can get to the animals. Multiple exhibits place you right between the glass with some amazing animals. From Gorillas, Orangutans, Sea Lions, Penguins, Meerkats, Elphants and more. It took our family around 3 to 4 hours to complete the little over a mile loop. We also were able to rent a stroller for our 3 year old which was wiped down and disinfected in front of us prior to receiving it. We had a great time and would return here.

Shannon Warren

Clean public spaces including bathrooms, pleasant staff, healthy animals and enough space to social distance.

Nice little setup, Went with my daughter, her bf and my grandson. Walked 3miles and took lots of pictures.. Cant wait til every thing is open.

Drew Kirchner

Zoo trail is nicely planned to minimize backtracking and tangent paths. Took us a leisurely 4 hours to walk past all of the exhibits. A few exhibits we're closed, including "Walkabout". Loved the gorillas!

I love to visit the soon it's a god place to take the kids and spend a day relaxing and enjoying the amimals.

Jonathan Frank

Always a family-fun place to interact with the animals and be one with nature. The parks have finally reopened and my kids have a great time throughout.

Mary Brewer

Nice time but needed more place to eat and cool off. We didn't make it through while zoo but were there like 4 hours only ice cream and popcorn pretzel type food available. Burger place closed. Some of vending didn't take cash at all and ones that did weren't that cold. Stick to the drinks are strands on coolers that was where we found to be coldest.

Michael Cape

It wasn't what I remember it being when I was kid and my kids didn't have the same excitement I did when I was a kid. Of course it probably didn't help that every time we even slowed down outside yellow jackets or bees came flying at us. My toddler got stung by a yellow jacket before we even got through the entrance. Hardly saw any employees and a lot of animals just wanted to go inside. Hopefully our Halloween trip is better and we got the membership so we'll be back, but it was just okay.

The guy at the ticket counter was very helpful. The gentleman that took our tickets to get in was quite rude. It seemed quite a few animals were taken off of exhibit. It was our first time at this zoo. The waterpark area was closed. They had multiple playgrounds that were very nice. My family enjoyed the multiple indoor exhibits. Plentiful well placed bathrooms and water fountains. Quite a few of the snack/food stands were also closed. Tad pricey for entry and beverages. Would come back if ever this way again though as the kids enjoyed it. Plus with our local zoo membership we got half priced entry.

Derick McNair

My sister and I took my niece and nephew there to see Wild Lights. It was absolutely beautiful. We loved it and so did the kids.

Tim DeVore

Was enjoyable to walk around and the staff we interacted with was very friendly.

Manuel Sanchez

Light show in the evening was great. We went at 7:30pm and it was light enough to see some of the animals and then dark toward the end to see some of the really cool lights.

Animal education is just about every where if you are quiet and look. Just like this hummingbird skeleton.

Our family loves the Louisville zoo! My favorite is the snow leopard. Our granddaughter likes the tigers! We try to support the zoo by purchasing birthday and Christmas gifts from the gift store. The Lantern festival was beautiful and I hope it continues as well as the Halloween activities.

I love taking my grandkids to the Louisville Zoo. We always have a wonderful experience and the kiddos learn something new about an animal every time we go. We always see something new to strike new interest in animals. The Louisville Zoo has special shows featuring different animals through out the day. If visiting for your first time or many times and you've never been, go! You will have a wonderful time.

Nicole Hansen

Our experience was pretty good except for the trainer working with the elephants. He looked at us and other people all around and said you don't want to be here, go home, don't spend your money. That's hard to explain to your kids who were so excited about seeing animals, and it wasn't very clean. Not sure if that's a staffing issue or it's normal for all the enclosures to just be dirty.

Rebecca Maddox

Love this zoo... healthy animals really great assortment of reptiles... great Halloween tail for the children

Great zoo! Has a more animals than my local zoo. My favorite animal for this day was the grizzly bear. He was very active! We had a great time!

We were here for the Boo at the Zoo event, however we come on a regular basis. It's great for a walk, but if you want to see animals, you need to come early in the day. The weather gets so blah and most will be sleeping or hiding by noon. Nice layout, the staff is nice, DO NOT GO TO THE RESTAURANTS.

Ariel Jones

We visited the lantern festival. Beautiful. We also went early enough that some of the animals were still out.

Tiffany Coleman

It seems like the they had a good variety of animals. The staff all seemed very nice and worked with us well.

Kenny Breneman

A very clean zoo. Most of the food and shops were closed i assume due to covid. A lot of interesting animals with nicely designed enclosures though some of the enclosures do seem small. The best part was gorilla jungle with the things for the kids to find and explore on the way to the incredible gorilla enclosure.

Beautiful and wonderful lots of helpful employees and information It was a great day date for two adults, cool weather so we saw most of6 the animals. The only disappointing this was the black bear was very upset and his area didn't look big enough! Very clean and with the carousel and play ground, kids should love it!

Becky Payne

Best memories. Ever. Now 5th generation. Enjoying it.

We had a great day with the kids and enjoyed all the beautiful animals plus a camel ride!!

I didn’t love it. Not so many animals to see and I just feel really bad for the polar bear ????‍❄️. It’s ok to go any day we are bored and want to do something cheap that doesn’t cost so much money . It’s pretty decent for the price which is around $5.

Amazing zoo. Went early, at 10am, and the animals were all out entertaining. Seal show at 2pm is tremendous. Splash pad is a great way too cool of after seeing all the animals. Would definitely return.

The wild lights exhibit was absolutely gorgeous I've never seen anything quite like it! We got there early to see the animals my only disappointment was that many of the animals were off display especially my favorite the elephants. But I was overcome by The majestic beauty of the polar bear which I didn't even know would be there. Mask wearing was forced throughout the park and it was not overcrowded on a weeknight.

Gina Hope

First time visitor and will probably return if visiting Indianapolis again. The cooler weather encouraged the animals to be more active. Most of the exhibits were well sized with good viewing platforms. Employees were very nice. ZooBoo setup was nice and the employee teaching “Pumpkin School” got the kids really excited using some simple science experiments. Tickets and food are quite pricey.

Christy Durrett

It was nice even with covid restrictions. We skipped a lot of the indoor attractions, but still had plenty to see.

FINALLY got to experience the wallaroo walkabout and lorikeet landing this trip!! Had a blast as usual.

Due to Covid-19, this place was astonishing and surprisingly had a lot to offer even with the exhibitions closed which sucked but aye, it was able to give ppl and such as my family an amazing experience. Will have my visit again hopefully when all covid policies are clear so we can fully experience this beautiful place that holds God's creature's.

Love my hometown zoo. Animals are well taken care of and loved and it shows! I go every chance I get and enjoy it every time. However, when a group of my family members went last week, the number of bees that swarmed around us the entire time was disturbing! Our children were constantly frightened and two toddlers ended up getting stung before we left. Please, take care of this problem. I don't want them exterminated but relocated somewhere they can't be such a nuisance!

Jer Emy

Went for the Dinosaur event and the kids had so much fun. Can't wait to go up again.

Great zoo! During COVID they are requiring people to wear face masks and to move only one way through the zoo which was incredibly helpful. You make one big loop of the zoo and see everything. Most of the indoor exhibits were closed, but all of the outdoor ones were allowing guests. A couple were monitored by staff to help keep the flow. Over all a great zoo, with lots of very cool animals and exhibits!!

Joni Perry

Great place for families! Good variety of animals!

Lauren D

Great family zoo with lots of fun special events they do too. Boo at the Zoo is always great!

Connie Johnson

Most of the staff was terrible to interact with. The younger girls at the snack and drink shacks were extremely rude and seemed like they did not want to be there. The guy working in the food and drink restaurant was extremely rude about masks. As we were putting them on, he stormed over to tell us to put them on “Now!” It was fairly clean, there was some under construction areas. It’s pretty expensive for the overall experience. The man working with the elephants was very nice!

Gail Ames

This day was perfect to go to the Louisville Zoo. My daughter, granddaughter, a friend and myself did just that. I have underwent 3 surgeries for a total knee replacement. So I went in a wheel chair. The chair didn't keep me from any of the exhibits. The animals were all out. It was exciting to see them and the excitement my eight year old granddaughter had was wonderful. Seeing all the dinosaurs on exhibit throughout the zoo was an added delight. A real treat was when my granddaughter and daughter went on a camel ride! The smiles made the day for me at the zoo. Thank you

The kids had a great time and that’s all that matters. Loved that they accept affiliate membership cards from other zoos to give a 50% off discount. We loved seeing the dinosaurs scattered through zoo. They fact that they are animatronic made it super fun. There was a ropes course the kids enjoyed and the splash pad in the middle was a great way to cool off. Every bathroom we went to needed serious attention. We felt like we kept getting lost or having to back track to get out of an area. Definitely not my favorite zoo layout. Over all great day.

Bonnie Jackson

Louisville Zoo does a great job creating beautiful and interesting habitats for the animals and birds. It was nice to go back after many years and see the evolution of the exhibits. My only criticism is not knowing what some of the animals were. It looks like they may be going through a transfer period. Still a great time!

What an awesome zoo! So much fun! Always exciting! Animals are well cared for and love entertaining for the public! Very clean facility! Also has a great dinosaur exhibit....not sure how long this will be at the zoo!

Ben Lamm

Not as big as other zoos, but what's nice about the small ones is you have a chance to be closer to the animals. Being able to see w leopard 6 feet away is a treat

Always a fantastic expirence when I attend our Louisville Zoo! The people are always so kind and helpful and the Zookeepers so knowledgeable and love answering questions. Beautiful atmosphere ❇️

Wonderful zoo, the animals seem to be well cared for and I really recommend going here.

Gary Nebel

Mr and my family bought a membership, our girls love coming here ????

Samantha Blanton

We frequent here quite often. My kiddos love it. Especially the dinosaurs. My girls loved interacting with them. My boys loved to hear each description of the different dinosaurs!

BJ Eads

Awesome zoo. Our family have always loved to come here. The animals were very alive today too. Wonderful family time and great atmosphere.

Josh C. Masden

Thy Dino has my thy comeback to The Western Civilization with us Bedrock Characters as Bam Bam, Pebbles, FRED, and Barney watches with Wilma......lol..... On a serious note the passionate and proficient Dino Exhibit has been amazing. This is the best feature of a Jurassic Park from 1992 - 1993 with the Realistic, Sounds, Movements, Color, and Atmosphere of the Dinosaurs. Although, in the movie, Park Operator, Samuel L Jackson got 86 with a Dinosaur, yet here Hollywood could cast my family and I has extras. In the Oz Yellow Brick Road....we did not cliché, "Lions, and Tigers, and Bears Oh My!" This time it is T Rex, and Tricetops, and Raptors Oh Yes!"

James Bamberger

Had a great time with the family at the Wild Nights Lantern Festival. The kids loved it!
