Hogle zoo has a great variety of animals and is especially kid-friendly. I had to go there for a writing project, using an animal as a writing prompt. I spent several hours with the bears, which were super awesome to observe. Pricing for the zoo is pretty good, and is especially good for families with young kids and seniors. The Zoo is super friendly to families, and especially to kids. They have awesome stroller access areas, and many presentations and shows to engage the kids in the animals. Many animals also have feeding hours posted so that you can observe them feeding. Hogle Zoo also has a pretty fun looking, Lighthouse Themed splash zone for kids. I also bought food from one of their small restaurants and stopped inot the gift shop, the service was good, as was the food that I had. I was also pleasantly surprised to find the Zoo had pretty clean bathrooms. It’s sometimes pretty hit and miss with zoos, but the bathrooms there seemed well maintained and clean.

It's been over 15 years since I visited this zoo. So much has changed. It is definitely set up to cater to massive amounts of people. There is a splash park that my kids loved. And there are plenty of cool off stations for the hot days. The animals were pretty cool, too.

Tasha Leastar

A super fun and exciting time for you and your family in Utah! Truly one of the best zoos in the US

Emily Carter

We love the zoo! It is such a great place to come and let everyone burn some energy. We get a season pass and love being able to come and go as we please with our family of kids. You also get a small discount on purchases like food, gifts, etc. Everything is outside except some of the monkeys and the reptiles. Be prepared for the weather of the day. Every spot is stroller/wheel chair friendly and there are only a couple of hills, the rest is mostly flat. You can come early and watch them feed the animals. The holiday events are great and they are open year round. The play areas are great and there are lots of places to stop and sit. You can bring your own food in without issue. Great Friendy staff and good service. Food is decent and the gift shop is super fun. They stopped giving straws and plastic bottles to help protect the animals and the environment!

Fred Leyva

Always have a great time when I come here! Workers are very friendly and helpful. The zoo is very clean and professional

Nicole “Momma” Gubler

Very good zoo. The staff are amazing! I even got the opportunity to feed one of the tortoises and it was really an experience of a lifetime. Highly recommend the bird show it is so fun and entertaining!

Vaughn Barrus

Great place to visit! So much fun to see the beautiful animals. I think Hogle Zoo does a great job at caring for the animals. Very clean, well maintained and great for an enjoyable time with friends and family!

Steve Hill

Enjoyed our time today! Naturally we think it's a bit pricey oh, but it was a fun time nonetheless. considering it's a zoo, there were lots of great things to see we especially loved the giraffe exhibit and the sweet polar bear. The python I can go without seeing again! Little concern for the polar bear in the heat oh, definitely not his normal habitat. All the other exhibits looked well capped, the place was jammed packed naturally oh, but still a really fun way to spend the day with my family for Mother's Day. I do think more special should be offered for special holidays in days like celebrating parents.

See the bird show! It was the best part of my visit. Dispite quite a bit of space, this zoo is pretty small. Great for small kids but make sure to bring a stroller or wagon. Its pretty hilly here.

Such a unique Zoo We had a great time and the weather was beautiful!! Thank you staff for keeping it up!!

Nice variety of animals and habitats. Some construction under way while we were there but wasn't to bad. Not a lot of parking available. Good food at the cafe. Overall a great place to take the kids young or old.

Anthony Williams

The Giraffe's were a bit drunk and crazy. Will be coming back very soon for more fun! I would recommend this to all friends and family. I think this photo is very good for newcomers. Hope yall enjoy your time at this park. 5 STARS!

Love this place. Love their work towards conservation. It's fun, family friendly, lots of personable staff to answer questions, lots of shade. The prices for food and souvenirs are pricey but that's not unexpected. Love the water play area too!

It’s a fun place to go and to be, especially as a kid as I grew up visiting since I lived nearby when I was little. However, I returned more recently for a field trip and was... I guess whelming? A lot of the animals (particularly the big ones) looked kind of bored and sad and I couldn’t blame them as they didn’t have nearly enough space to enjoy themselves completely. The elephants and the grey wolf in particular stuck with me and I really hope things are improved since my last visit, but admittedly I am doubtful.

Beautiful animals all out and about being playful in their environments made for a great day. My whole family had a wonderful time ????

Missy

So great. Easy to socially distance. Masks required inside buildings. We love this place, and the animals are usually very active. Great family activity!

Sebastian Cruz

We really liked the shows. Starting at 10 they were back to back for the elephants, birds, sea lions and giraffes. I'm not sure if it happens all the time, but the animals were very accessible. Many (see pictures) were asleep against the glass do we had very personal experiences with the looks, bears and gorilla. My children were very interested in the train, which we did not ride, and the playgrounds, both wet and dry where we did play for a while. There were lots of easily accessible restrooms that were in good shape and a plentitude of food. But there were also picnic tables so yay for support of bringing your own food!

Skyler Baird

We went for a company party and had the zoo to ourselves, anyone we came into contact with that worked for the zoo was very helpful and courteous! Grounds were clean and bathrooms were clean! They had a splash pad area for the kids, nursing rooms for mamas and more than one changing table! It would have been nice if there were more places to buy water so make sure you bring your own refillable water bottle!

Rachel Anjewierden

It's a great Zoo! There's no hippo's or penguins anymore, but still really fun! The habitats are great and very much like where the animals are from.

PaarVenDan “Darth Master” Thomas

It was so fun I had a grand time with my family we saw all kinds of animals from a boa constricter to a red panda ????

Jeanie Cox

This zoo was great. I have been to alot of zoos in the US and Hogle was one to come back to. Even in the winter they had a bunch of animals out and about. animals from elephants, giraffes, to tigers and seals. The zoo keepers were great too, they were out and about getting the animals to interact with them to come closer for people to view and also to educate people on them. great place to bring friends and family to look at a bunch of animals for a couple hours.

Jared Hawkes

Fun place to go with the kids. Some of the exhibits are empty and I'm not sure if this is due to winter or always like this. The monkeys, gorilla and polar bear make it great. We went on a Thursday morning and only saw a handful of other visitors.

C O'Shea

We always have a great time at the zoo. Clean bathrooms friendly staff. Nice family atmoshpere. Thanks for having "Free Day" we have a large family which makes it difficult to enjoy things like a day at the zoo. Tons of ppl but still awesome. Loads of smiles and laughter.

The zoo is not massive but it does have beautiful animals. It will take 1-1.5 hrs to complete the zoo... It has some animal shows scheduled at various times. There is a train ride and Mary go round inside the zoo. The zoo souvenir store is pretty nice.

William Santos

Went here a few times these past two years. Feeding the Giraffe is a must, seeing the gorillas and lions and elephants is pretty neat. Not a very large zoo, but not very expensive either.

We love this zoo! We go on the discount days in the winter. So fun seeing the animals in the snow, we miss many of the African animals due to the cold weather though. Very well organized and tons and of animals to see. We have loved seeing the seal lion training.

Diana Turner

Pretty cute zoo with plenty of attractions to keep you and the kids entertained. I really loved the bird show. I think it was the best attraction there.... When we went the animals weren't so active and that kinda sucked but it was nice at least to see them. My 4 year old enjoyed it...

Dani Jensen

The facilities are well cared for. All areas are clean. The animals look healthy. For a smaller zoo looking to educate and local conservation, it's excellent. Even though we live an hour away, our family gets an annual pass, because it's such a good value.

Jose Carmona

I feel like we could definitely have a better zoo in Utah. We go once a year and every time we do it’s just a disappointment. The animals are barley out, most of everything is closed down, and there’s nothing really happening now that the bird show came to a close. I’d travel somewhere better for your buck.

Roxanne Bagley

I think the pricing is decent because you do get to see quite a bit. The animals seem to be taken care of quite well and many will interact with you. The train is such a cute idea and we really enjoyed that. The elephant training was so fun to watch and very informational. They even have a splash pad for the kiddos.

This is a decent sized zoo with plenty of awesome attractions for adults and children. While covid restrictions have curtailed certain aspects, there's still plenty to see and do. Pricing is moderate, but well worth it! I would love to someday visit when covid is a sad memory and the weather is a nicer.

The lights were absolutely Beautiful around Christmas time. But when we went with all the animals around it was honestly kind of sad. The enclosures are incredibly small and the animals look way too skinny for what they need to look like. Other than that there's not really a lot to do besides just walk around which I mean is technically what is it was about but maybe they should be more interactive have different things going on different weeks. But I think they should probably work on the enclosures

Honestly, we used to love here once a month at least, however today we were treated very poorly by the security personnel. We were not told in advance that the zoo would close at 5, we did not get to see more than 4 animals before they started shutting everything down (all the enclosements were closed). And to make things worst, we were escorted out by a security guy who must have thought we were thiefs or something because he followed us to the gift shop where we were planning of buying something for my daughter as we do every time we come, and we but he followed us for 30 minutes, until he decided to tell us we had to leave as we needed new tickets for the 5:30 show. I was very upset because when he first saw us he told us we had to go to the front of the zoo, and, since we didn't really know what was going on, we thought he meant th gift shop. Anyways he made us feel VERY uncomfortable, and dare I even say harassed. Very unprofessional. And to top it all off, we spent around 200 between the gift shop and Cafe just to be treated so poorly.

Everything is open and the crowds were non-existent on a Friday afternoon which was great for us. We saw all of the animals and we rode the carousel and train with no lines basically. Nice not having to wear masks outdoors too. We made reservations two days before and didn’t have any issues. We went for our daughters 3rd birthday and had several family members join with us and everyone just made their own reservations.

Nancy Rice

Good field trip or family excursion. They had an art exhibit in the education building that we really enjoyed. Almost always a good view of the Lions, sea lions, seals, often tigers, etc. Bears are harder to see but really cool. I'd say 2 hours is a pretty good amount of time in the winter to see about everything. Carousel is unique and beautiful- costs $2 per kid. They have outdoor seating if you bring your own food or indoor seating if you buy food at the Beastro.

Alyse Powell

I love the upgrades to the zoo. I haven't been in a while, but they are great. I just wish on a regular basic the could have available shows and/or interactions with the staff.

Trisha

Amazing place to go. My boyfriend and I were in salt lake visiting some family, and we decided to go to the zoo before we flew home later that day. We had a blast seeing animals that the oregon zoo does not have, and we got to see nora the polar bear who was at the Oregon zoo before. We had a great time, and had some really good food at the beastro too.

Great collection of animals and activities for all ages. I forget sometimes that zoos are fun. We came here with the boys and one of their friends and we all had a blast!

Miriah Wixom

Well worth travelling from Northeastern Nevada to visit, in my opinion. They've made some improvements since we visited five years ago. If you have little kids, and forgot your stroller, the zoo's stroller rentals were pretty convenient at $10. We packed our own food in (which is allowed) to save money and time, but the restaurant grub smelled good. It's an attractive, well-built smaller zoo. The polar bear, sea lions, gorillas, lions, tigers, rhinos, and elephants were our favorites. And the meerkats. Go visit!

This is a great zoo. The enclosures are close enough together that you don't have to walk long distances between animals. The enclosures are nice looking and large. There is a wide variety of animals. There are lots of places to sit and eat a lunch and the membership prices are well worth it. If you live in the area and especially if you have kids, I highly recommend a membership.

I had relatively low expectations seeing that this is in Utah and I have been to the San Diego Zoo. I was very pleasantly surprised! It is a smallish zoo, but is wonderfully maintained and all the animals look well cared for and, when I saw it, the animals also had a great rapport with the zoo staff! I felt like the price of food was a bit high; however, if it goes towards maintaining the facility and caring for the animals it is worth it. I loved that there was a splash pad and dry park for the kids. There were plenty of water fountains throughout the park so I didn't feel forced into buying a drink. My kids loved the carousel, the Zoofari Express train, and being able to feed the giraffes! I loved the reclaimed recycling art throughout the park. Also, I loved that they had animal-painted art for sale in the gift shop!! And the staff spoke so lovingly of the animals who did the painting and were able to explain to us how they could tell who painted what based on the brush strokes! There's a lot of love at the Hogel Zoo! I will happily return to the Hogel Zoo. Thank you for a great experience!

We love the zoo! They are just big enough to make the year pass worth it, and small enough to see everything in one day if you really want to. The staff is polite and the zookeepers take good care of the animals while taking time to talk to the zoo visitors. We always have the best time at the zoo!

Hogle zoo is awesome!! Even during the pandemic it is so fun. They do a great job reminding people to be socially distant and the employees are jumping to help and answer questions. And they were so appreciative that we supported the zoo and came. Can't wait to go again!!

Mutant Marine

Family-friendly, clean and organized...this isn't a large zoo, but there is a good variety of animals and activities. They have made a lot of improvements over the last 10 years or so...it keeps getting better and better! Be prepared for a lot of walking though...and some hills on the south side of the zoo!

Went here for my company's 2019 summer picnic w/ my fiancé. Fantastic staff, plenty of happy animals, and clean facilities. Overall a wonderful experience.

Fun place to go! Very kid friendly and still fun for adults. All the exhibits are very well maintained, the majority of them have been redone over the last 10-15 years. So if you haven't been in a while I suggest you go check it out!

We had a wonderful zoo. They had many great viewing opportunities the Pallas kittens were adorable and so very playful!! The elephant seemed to pose for picture. The two polar bears were so fun too.

Coming here as a child, they've changed so much, but still have some things that I remember seeing 20 years ago! I don’t know how it’s now but we needed to buy our tickets online and schedule a time to go, and we could just spend 2h inside the Zoo. We loved our last visit everything was perfect as always.

Small zoo but a very good one, plenty of animals, train, carousel and plenty of food and drink areas. Don't forget to feed the giraffes.

My toddler had so much fun seeing all the animals and watching the rihno being fed. It's not too big and you can get through everything in a decent amount of time. Very enjoyable and will be visiting again soon!

Jared Farmer

Grab a family membership and this place is an awesome place to go for an afternoon anytime during the year. In fact, our family's favorite time is to go in late fall or early spring, or even in the middle of winter. None of the services are open, but many of the animals are out, and the crowds are minimal. Getting a membership means that we don't feel guilty about just coming and spending an hour or two when we can't see the whole zoo. Staff are always really helpful, especially those who take care of the animals. They're always willing to stop and talk for a minute when we have questions.

I had a wonderful time at the Hogle zoo! All the animals are interactive and incredibly beautiful, well cared for and I felt really welcome. I'm a wheelchair user and for the most part, the pavement is all smooth and the paths are nice and wide. I did struggle with some doors, they should have buttons to assist the disabled. The sand cat was the cutest! The red panda, the most fun, the snow leopard was asleep with it's paws against the glass. The apes were Majestic. I missed the bird show but I heard it was fabulous. I could have spend hours in the small animals house and with the big cats. There were food options, snacks and an incredible carousel which I got to ride. That was like magic for me. I hope you all have a great time too! Just be aware the further you go into the park, the steeper the inclines. If not for the fence i could have reached out and pet the lions mane.

Zertus26

OK once a year for the price and span of things to see. Clean. Botanical aspect has improved over time. Seems the elephants might be better off with more space and company. We followed local news stories regarding the bird show and wonder what the latest on that is.

I had such a good time at the Hogle Zoo! There is a good variety of animals and plenty to look at. I loved seeing the giraffes and the lions. Had a great time visiting the Hogle Zoo with my family the first week of July. We got there first thing in the morning to beat the heat and hopefully see as many of the animals as we could. Stop and watch the animal demonstrations. The Elephant and sea lion shows were awesome. $5 also buys you the chance to feed the Giraffes. You havent lived until you see up close and personal a Ginormous Giraffe tongue wrapping itself around a piece of lettuce. You may even be lucky enough to get some Giraffe slobber on your hands (Don't wipe it on your clothes it is kinda nasty).

Brant Fish

My kiddos loved all the bugs! Great zoo with lions and tigers and bears too!

Robby Barnes

Went on $2 day very crowded. Tickets required in advance. Cold so quite a few animals inside where you can't see them. Grandkids had fun.

Weather was nice. Not too cold. Hardly any other people were there so you could actually see all the animals. Only drawback, train was closed.

Hadn't been to the zoo for 16 years and took our toddler for the first time today. The zoo has changed quite a bit. Animal enclosures are much cleaner than I remember. The hogle zoo is a very fun and interesting place to go and visit. It was something as a kid that we as a family would go and really enjoy seeing animals that we normally wouldn’t see. Now that I have kids the hogle zoo has changed a lot. They have updated and added different kinds of attractions. They have streamlined the walking path and they have made a huge amp theatre that put on shows for people. The thing I really like about the zoo is that with a lot of little kids it is expensive to go but, they have in the month of November free Wednesday. November is a busy month and is usually extremely cold but, it is worth it. Most of the cats like tiger and snow leopard were still out and about. Why I didn’t give it 5 stars is it is too expensive for me and my family to go on a regular basis.

We absolutely love the Hogle Zoo! We had the opportunity to experience the zoo in the winter a couple of weeks ago and it was actually pretty awesome. A lot of the animals were out. The Conservation Carousel (an extra $2) and water play area (free) are two of my kids' favorite things to do here. The carousel has so many different animals to choose from (i.e. an anteater, praying mantis, pracoxk, and polar bear). The water play area is so great for cooling down on a hot summer's day. They have staff and volunteers all over to answer questions or to tell you about the animal you are visiting right then. We love it here.

Hogle Zoo Christmas Lights review. Starts at 5:30 PM. Took wife and kids and we had a great time. Plenty of lights to walk through. The highlight was a bridge that you walk over that is a tunnel of lights. We paid $5 a ticket (found them on discount) definitely worth the money. FYI the animals are not out. Only the otters that live in their tank.

The Hogle Zoo is Awesome!!! And always has been. I really enjoy going there and seeing the variety of animals they have. I have lived in Utah my whole life so I've been able to see all of the changes that they've made over the years. Some have been great, some I wonder why they moved this or changed that, but all in all it's always been a fun place to go. The only reason I give it 4 starts and not 5 is because I think it's too small of a zoo and that the location could be better. Now this will be probably never happen but I think they should sell the land they're in, it's prime real estate, and buy a bunch of flat land either west of salt lake or Utah county and really open things up and do a big safari thing and just have a bit more room for the animals.

Sturgeon Hunter

Our kids (4 and 2) love this zoo, but come prepared to do some walking. They have strollers to rent but we always bring our own. Food is expensive if you eat there and decent quality. We typically bring our own food and eat at one of the many outdoor tables. The best deal if you go often is the family pass; only after 3-4 trips and then it's like free visits. The best time to come for most of the big animals (lion, elephant, bears, tigers) is when temperatures are cooler, like during the fall or early spring. When it's too hot, many animals don't want to be outside or be active. In fact, some of our most memorable visits have been when the weather is (to humans at least) not 'ideal', like rainy or snowy days.

KosukiFire

Pretty good Zoo. Can get pretty crowded during the peak hours. During the winter they do Zoo Lights. Fun for little kids, but don't expect to see many animals at all. Almost all are indoors. Year membership is awesome for a small family. Prices jump once you have a family of 4.

Deborah Simmons

It was so fun there were so many animals but I wish they had a axolotl ???? plus the gift shop was so much money but I got some rocks for 7.99$ and a friendship necklace for 9.99$

Jess D Jensen

Went during boo lights and had a great time with my family. Our children had fun and the atmosphere of the zoo was great.

Kimberly Dalby

Small but cute. You can go through the whole zoo in 2 to 3 hours depending how interested you are. The safari ride was closed due to the rona. If you have a service dog they accommodate well!

Katie Johnson

We love coming to this zoo. It's hit and miss with the animals because they look annoyed???? Carousel and Train rides are fun and not expensive! People were not very cautious of covid (not 6 feet apart) but the zoo had many reminders and did their very best to enforce cdc guidelines. Our favorite part were the ????seals and how they did tricks. Asian highlands is amazing(tigers and exotic animals). I wish they had koalas and panda bears! It took us about 2.5 hours to see everything and do the rides. Overall it was a great time!!

Stormie Elmer

It was super hot, but fortunately they had cool mist zones throughout the zoo. Luckily, we caught the giraffe feeding (offered at 11 and 1pm when we were there), because the kids love that. The polar bears were really active and fun to watch. In fact, all the animal were pretty active, even in the heat of the day. The signage/education was well done, and it was interesting to learn that one of the rhinos wears a mask (that she can see through) to help with her eye allergies.

Camille Romine

In short: Great zoo, clean, well cared for animals, and amazing staff. Zoos can be very controversial, and with recent documentaries really showing the dark side of animals in captivity it can be hard to want to visit a zoo. But Hogle zoo does an excellent job of almost everything in their zoo. ***Note! To my knowledge, almost all their animals are rescues who can't make it in the wild*** You can see all of the animals, are well taken care of, well nourished with clean enclosures and zoo staff constantly caring for them. The park works with the elephants out in the open and they have a session where they show you how they train and care of the elephants. The bird show is amazing and is probably the best part of the zoo. I've been a couple times to the African safari part with the lions and such, if you want to see them awake, go in the morning or stay until it cools down, they are not active in the heat of they day. Overall, its a great place, my only complaint is everything such as food and gifts is expensive. But plan it out and go to all their events (most are free) to make the most of your visit.

T. S.

Great place, tons of fun and was able to get really good views of all the animals

This is one of the treasured gems of Salt Lake City. The facility is super clean and maintained. The animals all seem to be well cared for and managed. The staff are fairly friendly except for one person who was rude to me today but the team leads seem to be receptive when I reported. The zoo has taken great measures to ensure public safety during the Covid pandemic. I’ve been coming for years and have appreciated coming here now more that I have a toddler. I highly recommend and will be back.

We had a wonderful zoo. They had many great viewing opportunities the Pallas kittens were adorable and so very playful!! The elephant seemed to pose for picture. The two polar bears were so fun too.

We loved our trip to this zoo with our 18 month old granddaughter. It is not too big. It can be seen in an afternoon, but you can spend more time if you wish. Most of the animals were visible when we went around 3-6pm. It wasn't too crowded either. We went on a Friday in Sept. It has a train and carousel for additional price. The train ride was short, but pleasant. Bring your own water bottle to fill up at water stations.

Nofoaliiotumua Te'o

Always a fun place to visit. New enclosures have really helped out the zoo. Great just to be outside, bonus to see all the animals. Go on a weekday to avoid the crowds.

Gene Maguire

Although I enjoy viewing the animals I normally couldn't see in the wild, It hurts to see them caged up. The mighty gorilla seemed quite sad. I do like the upgrades that have been done and the otter seal enclosure are awesome.

Gary Weller

Coming from California for a good vacation and going to the zoo with my family is amazing it's really small zoo but it keeps the family entertain and being around the animals... Especially that it's my first time being here I like it... I would definitely come here again...

Ebone Cruz (The Entrepreneur Plug)

Always a great experience going with the kids. Pick a day that isn't too hot. Otherwise nice place to go once in a while. Waiting for them to add more animals. Feeding the giraffes are great. It costs $5 per person, but the kids won't forget it.

The Hogle Zoo is the best place to take your family and friends. The new remodel looks amazing! Next we'll be going to the Boo lights! Super excited!

Very nice zoo. Admission is high as far as zoos go. Animals looked well kept and happy. Loved the water animal habitats. 20.00 a head is pretty steep.

I feel this place would be better visited in summer. Did see some cool animals, but a lot of stuff was either closed or no animals were to be found.

We love the zoo. We haven't been in a while and we really like all the improvements they've been doing over the last little while.

A great little zoo and a beautiful location. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and it's never disappointed. Lots of fun animals to look at, and also lots of fun activities for the kids. There are plenty of restaurants and attractions, as well as stores stuffed with everything a kid could ask for. There's also a little splash pad which is very fun in the summer.

Mike Vidaurre

I worked here in my teens and early 20s and I know how much goes into the care of the animals! It's been wonderful to watch the zoo grow and update. Today I got to do the elephant feeding with my niece and it was magical! Thanks for all the memories, Hogle Zoo, I'm looking forward to many more!

The animals all look happy and healthy. The panther seems to love having its picture taken and with the new lion habitat they nap right by the viewing glass which is super fun. There are tons of interactive learning experiences which is super awesome as well as informational plaques to tell you about each of the animals.

Kevin Buehler

Hogle Zoo was solid, it had been maybe 15 years since I’d been there and in that time I’m happy to report there have been quite a few updates. My kids lasted four or five hours, which was impressive considering it was really hot. If you get there at 9am (open time) it is not too busy and by the time things really pick up (early afternoon), you’ll have seen all the animals and be ready to take off.

Co

Very nice zoo, with many interesting things to see, like the mixed-animal African exhibit, with good viewing locations/angles. Good gift shop. …

Heather Almaraz

This zoo was so fun! It is smaller than the Portland zoo (and much smaller than the San Diego Zoo). It's smaller size makes it ideal for families with small children that may tire out quickly. We were able to see nearly all of the zoo without feeling rushed in the space of about 3 hours. Despite it's smaller size it still has PLENTY of fun animals to see! I was not left wanting. We went on free zoo day in December and it wasn't crowded at all! There were a few animals that weren't available to see because of the weather, but the majority of animals were out and about, enjoying the snow! In fact, I've never seen so many animals being so active at a zoo in one day! There is also a nice indoor area filled with smaller animals to view while you warm up. I highly recommended this zoo!

Nathan Phillips

Had a great time in the zoo. Was there with some of my family including young nieces and nephews. We enjoyed seeing the animals. The bears were frisking about in the water which was great to watch.

M.J. Fields

Beautiful, clean zoo! We enjoyed our time here. We spent about 2 hours walking the zoo. We rode the train which was $2.50 for anyone over age 1. It had some good views of the animals. There is also a carousel too. Our home zoo was listed as a "reciprocal zoo" so we received a 50% discount on admission. So if you are a zoo pass member at home, check the list!

Andrew Jeppesen

Love this zoo. So fun, and the new exhibits are excellent. They have an Elephant demonstration at 10:30 and seal and sea lion at 11:00. So fun! Lots of places to get food and snacks in the zoo and lots of places to stop and eat it. The train is $5, and the carousel is $2.50. You can also feed the giraffe for $5. The gift shop is fun with art pained by the animals for sale! Super kid-friendly and family friendly, but you can enjoy as an adult too. The morning is the best time to go.

Peter Alt

Had a great time here, the staff were extremely friendly and gave us tons of awesome information. We also stopped by the food court on our way out and the food was good. I definitely plan on going again. My only issue was that a decent amount of animals weren’t out to see the day I went but it’s understandable. I wouldn’t want to come out everyday either haha.

King Alpin (Timber-Tech)

Amazing place to go. My boyfriend and I were in salt lake visiting some family, and we decided to go to the zoo before we flew home later that day. We had a blast seeing animals that the oregon zoo does not have, and we got to see nora the polar bear who was at the Oregon zoo before. We had a great time, and had some really good food at the beastro too.

Ben Slocum (Immortalduffman)

Love this place, sorry I didn't take anymore photos. But it's really great here! Take a picture of the Map because they dont have pamphlets right now. The food is really good here. Really great for families to come!

Stephanie Arroyo Ware

Zoo lights is amazing. It was my first time to the zoo since they started the new habitats. I am excited to go back and see what they have done in the dayligh

Matthew Jenson

It's like small package with multiple offering. Zoo is located in city, close to University. Have variety range of animals. Best for kids, the Zoofari (toy train ride) is thrilling. It's amazing to see Polar Bear, Red Panda, Tiger & Lion along with other animals. One can happily cover in 3-4 hours.

Danielle Figueroa

Even in winter my wife and I still had a pleasant time. The exhibits were cool and I got a lot of good pictures. Would recommend going when it's a little warmer out, but still can qualify as a year-round activity.

Heather Schettler

First time ever at a zoo!! This was great and I had such a great experience! The food there was also amazing and was surprisingly cheap :)

Maria Soberanis

Went for boo lights, it's a ton of fun. Lots of lights and animal lights. You dont get to see many animals as it is too dark. Gets cold at night definitely dress warmly.

Sean Smoot

Good place to go and walk around seeing animals. Went to zoo lights and had a blast!

Kasey Ware

I felt that costumer service was nice but being unable to experience seeing many of the animals was very disappointing because they were not there . I recently visited the Zoo in New York central park and the experience was great all cages were full and fun to view. More signs on why animals were not in their habitats so we didn't waste our time walking all over the zoo to find empty cages.

Victor Hernandez

If your in Utah and have a family you must see Hogle Zoo. The bird show was so cute. They were free flying birds. This zoo offers a large array of animals.

Kyle Gubler

The hogle zoo is such an awesome place. Very clean, organized, lots of accommodations for elderly, children, and handicap. They are a little expensive if you have a large family. But it's worth going at least once a year I promise you won't be disappointed. I would definitely recommend purchasing a pass. However if you can't afford to do that, make sure to bring water and food/ snacks. The animals are very well taken care of. The staff absolutely love them and are so knowledgeable about them.

Justin Jaggi

We loved it! It is a great place to go if you do not mind the hills! I love the work they have done and it is a wonderful place to bring children. I would recommend bringing your own food into the zoo because the food is a little pricey just remember to not feed the animals. Also if you have little ones bring a stroller or wagon because it is spread out little ones can get tired. Most the animals we saw were still lazy and sleeping but it was still a cool experience. I would highly recommend to anyone as a summer activity. Lastly don't forget sunscreen you will spend most of your time outdoors.

Jeremy Rose

It's busy. There are lots of people and kids and strollers and wagons. The animals all looked happy and healthy. We'll go back.

Kayelene Nelson

If you go early (9 am) it's not too busy. As time goes on it gets busier. It has changed a lot since I was there before. The exhibits are a lot nicer, but I was disappointed in the amount of time the animals were visible. The sea lions were the best.

Wonderful! Someone even returned our daughters winter coat by hanging it on the white picket fence where I dropped it out front of the parking lot. No one else took it either! Overall good visit. Went early not all features/exhibits open but certainly enough to keep the little ones entertained for a few hours. Gift shop prices were the same you'd expect at Disneyland or some other major park. Zoo has several areas for kids to play and a few rides for a dollars per ticket. The entire park had lights and decorations which we couldn't experience due to going in the morning.

Amanda Thatcher

I was so disturbed by the living conditions of these animals. Small cages, poorly maintained. They should shut this zoo down moving the animals to better living conditions or better yet let them go into there natural habitat.

Nice facility but it seemed like half the animals were missing

Danny Ray (Felonious 1)

The enclosures here are pretty amazing, with a lot of view points for the animals. There's a good deal of space given over to each enclosure, and a lot of attention is paid to giving the animals habitats that at least come close to matching fully natural. The tram is a little lackluster, though, compared to what we were expecting. It's about a 10 minute ride around a fifth (ish) of the zoo. Novel for kids, but definitely not a necessary addition for the experience.

Normally not a fan of zoos, not big on the whole caged animal thing. Went for a company party and its a nice walk.

This zoo is really impressive for being in a smaller state like SLC. If you live near it, the family annual pass is great and gets you discounts inside the park as well as access to special before/after hours events not available to the public. We live close and we’ve been probably 15 times this year. With the annual pass we don’t feel the need to see everything every trip, so we go and only check out the highlights for that specific day and go home.

Peggy Bostrom

Very great zoo! Lots of open spaces. Great play areas. Verity of animals.

Laura Rogers

We went to see the zoo lights for Christmas. The lights were great and we had a really enjoyable time. The Zoo also had a local singing group performing while I was there and that was great. The lights are fun for kids and my older children also had fun. It was cold when we went, so make sure you dress for the temperature when you will be there. Costs are listed on there website

Wade Brinton

Hogle Zoo is a gem. I've been visiting since childhood and they are continually working to improve animal habitats. It's a beautiful park with lots of opportunities to interact with the animals and learn cool facts. We went first thing and the animals were really active. My favorite part was the polar bear exhibit! We got to see them eat fish and Nora was so playful. We had a great time.

Chuck Russell

RED PANDAAAAAASSSSSSSS MADE MY DAY TO GO SEE THEM. but love the zoo. Overpriced food and all. Was even nice to go when it was cool outside because it was less crowded and the animals were out and active.

Meesh

Such a great experience! I loved taking my kids fo see animals they have only ever seen on TV and in books, learning all sorts of differ things about the animals and the preservation efforts. We watched a couple of the shows, ate at the Beastro which was delicious, rode the carousel, played in the water. It was a lot of fun and definitely worth it! I am glad they had stroller rentals as we are on a long trip and did not bring ours due to lack of room in the vehicle. Wear comfy shoes, there is a lot to see! Bring water and snacks! They have water fountains and a bottle filling station at the Beastro if needed. Take your kids, date, family, yourself, and have a good day!

Moroni Teran

They are one of our favorite summer activities. We have been told not to go on really hot days, but we did and it was fine. The animals were rather active. The security is top notch, the bird show is fun, and staff knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit...even if it's a hot day! We have also been during the winter for Zoo Lights, and that is fun too.

Sergio Lopez-Peralta

I hadn't been to the hogle zoo in decades and having just recently moved back to utah I decided it would be a nice place to take my 7 year old nephew. I was pleasantly surprised with the exibits. Particularly the lion viewing area. The Lions come right up to the glass for a nap which offers a one of a kind nose to nose experience which was just fantastic for my nephew. Most of the animals were very active even though it was the middle of the day. They have several interactive shows and the food and beverage options are plentiful and decently priced for a captive audience. There were several things I remembered from when I was a child. Great family fun!

Richard Gibbons

A bit overpriced for this size of a zoo. It’s tiny. They could do a lot more to make this place more scenic if they don’t add more animals. Extremely limited concessions. Narrow walkways in a lot of areas where it’s hard to get through since the zoo seems to be mothers with a thousand strollers paradise and get in the way.

Ivette Negron

Great zoo. Couldn't do as much due to covid, but everyone was still very friendly and the animals looked like they were very well taken care of. The habitats were clean and nice, and the viewing platforms were accessible enough to see all the animals without making it seem like they were on display not the biggest zoo I've ever been to, but it was very nice!

Susan Crockett

Great collections of animals. I love the African lions and the gorillas, very majestic. The reason for the 3 stars because they got ride of their bird show, it was one of the best.

Tyler Huish

Love coming to the zoo and make it a yearly event... so much fun to see the animals in different temps!

Eric Hampshire

Been to so many different zoos across the US, but this one has to be one of my favorites! It wasn't too busy, and was small enough that you could easily see everything in an afternoon.

Rick Snow

Such a great zoo! Definitely find out when feeding time is for the seals and bears! The seals and sea lions are trained to do tricks and it is so cool to see! Shortly after the seals and sea lions are fed they feed the bears! The grizzly bears are so cute when they eat!

We've been going to Hogle Zoo for years. It's anyways a fun experience. My kids are older now but still love it. It seems we learn something new about a different animal each time. The variety of animals is excellent for what the Utah climate allows. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! The exhibits are good, animals have lots of open spaces, and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. My one reason for knocking off a star is overall cleanliness. Particularly during the current pandemic, I didn't see any staff member cleaning anything during our 2 hour visit. Maybe we just missed them but i kind of expected to see multiple staff members around the more popular areas and high touch point exhibits doing at least a quick window or railing sanitizing. There are signs posted indicating what gets touched the most and fun signs with animals asking visitors to stay six feet apart. I just didn't see any actual cleaning. Overall we love the zoo and I'm sure we'll go back many times more.

Amberlee Woodhouse

We spent 4 hours exploring and seeing the animals. We watched them feed the elephants, giraffes, and rhinoceroses. It was great fun! We stopped for a pretzel and cheese half way through. And of course bought souvenirs before we left. Nice exhibits. Great selection of animals. Wonderful way to spend the day!

Matt Valdez

We had a really nice time at the zoo today. 4 kids under the age of 5. They loved all the animals. But they especially loved the play area for kids. The playground looked awesome but I think it should have had a few more slides or bridges. The rock formations look awesome but can't really be played on much. It was too early in the season for the splash pad to be open but it looked fun.

I've been going to this zoo since I was a little kid. (Trust me, that's been a long time). I've seen the beauty and the quality of the enclosures and pathways steadily increase. The people on hand to answer questions are kind and helpful and the play areas are fun. It's still one of my favorite places to go!

We've had a great time we really love it, so many beautiful animals very nice little shops, parking is a little small but if you get there before 11 you will find a spot!

Look, I’m an animal guy, they’re my thing. I’m a big fan of the sea lion, red panda and left-footed eastern highland spotted minx. And, this zoo is where this love started as a kid. With all the great upgrades over the past couple decades there has been one HUGE misstep — knocking down the old Elephant House. This was the original building at the Emigration Canyon location and has housed two of the zoo’s most famous animals — Alice the Elephant and Shasta the Liger. Now it’s gone. Torn down for the new lion’s exhibit. Which is cool. But, it’s not “Old Elephant House” cool. Also, bring back the hippos.

This zoo was really nice. There were a few things which made me a little sad, such as the train not running that day and walking to a restaurant which was closed and having to walk clear to the other end of the park for the one that was open. Also, the playground was closed:( but it is still winter! There's a great selection of animals to see as well as cool statues to take photos with. Most of the animals were out enjoying the sun, which was really nice. The set up is nice too because of the park circles back. Seeing the mountains all around was really cool too. Plus, the Beastro looks out over the elephant enclosure, what a great lunch view!

The only reason I came to this zoo was for the after hours support I was able to take part in with adults over the age of 21. My group attended zoos and brews which is from 6:30 to 9:30 and you must be 21 or older to enter. This is because they sell alcohol during this event and you get to walk around with it through out the entire zoo. My understanding is that it is only once a month and it is a fundraiser event for the zoo. You can feed the animals for a small fee or you can just hang out and watch them with out any screaming children which is great on its own. The habitats are clean and the staff at the event are very knowledgeable. Note that since it is later in the day some animals have already gone to bed for the day which means you may not get to see all the animals. With that being said there are still enough animals out to make it worth while. All in all, it was a great experience and I would love to do it again. Side note: I would order tickets online and show up early to get your alcohol tickets before the lines get to long. I arrived about 15 to 20 minutes before the event and I walked right in once the gates opened at 6:30, got my alcohol tickets and then had a great time.

Kurtis Merrill

The zoo was clean, the staff was friendly, and the whole place had an upbeat and happy vibe. The animals exhibits looked clean. It is small enough to not feel overwhelming but large enough to get lost in for a couple of hours learning about and seeing animals you would not normally get to see. I definitely recommend!

Katelyn Felshaw

My daughter loved going there and seeing the animals. She had fun playing on the light house going down the slide. She rode on the ferris wheel we rode on the giraffe's the first time then her and papa went on it. Oh and was cool the lion roared tried to get video but to many talking to hear it on video.

Hailey Maloney

I love this zoo. Lots to do. The exhibits are well designed and spacious with plenty of variety of animals. We stayed for the presentation about Elephants and it was really fascinating to watch and learn more about those amazing creatures. The admission was a bit steep - $19, but it was a great experience as an adult as well as for my 2 year old son. The best part was drinking water from the lion’s mouth. Bonus - they have a large play area.

This is a great zoo for us locals to take our kids and enjoy seeing the animals. I recommend the annual passes and have been a pass holder for a long time now. Please note, my review is for the Zoo and not the cost which is WAY TOO MUCH in my opinion for what you get. The zoo itself has a very nice selection of animals and if you go during the winter the crowds are kept at bay making the experience more enjoyable. My kids loved the "kitties" in the small animals building and it's always fun to watch the sea lions and polar bears. If it's been years since you've been, I like the more "natural" exhibits they have compared to the cage rooms of old. The play place with slides, rope bridges, boats, etc will keep your little ones entertained for quite a while if they need a break from looking at animals.

Alejandra Santacruz

The zoo is such an awesome experience! It has changed so much since I was a kid and has gotten more educational and fun!

amy hanges

Excellent zoo. It's not a habitat zoo where you spend more time walking between exhibits than viewing the attractions. The zoo is large, yet the layout is easy to navigate. I bring my kids to SLC solely for the Loveland Aquarium, the Museum of Ancient Life and the Hogle Zoo. When you go, make sure you attend the "bird show" as my kids call it. It's in a little outdoor amphitheatre with live birds of prey and exotic birds. You'll feel the rush of air from the wings as they fly inches above your head! That show alone is worth the trip. It runs for about 20 minutes and is included in the price of admission.

Jo Anna Arnold

I haven't been to the zoo in a long time, but 8 had a lot of fun. I went in late March, on a pretty nice day, so it was kinda crowded, but the animals were pretty active.

We were able to see red pandas, otters, and giraffes up close, and the polar bear was super active, but I was disappointed that even with the reservation system the Zoo felt too crowded. Not much different than visiting pre-pandemic on a weekday. I wish they would space folks out even more.

Couldn't find the polar bear again but saw some amazing animals! Great for young kids, lots of restrooms.

Absolutely love it. Went in the winter and it was fun, cold, but fun. Animals were out and moving. Many had babies out. Water fountains weren't working, not sure if this is just do to it being winter, but during the summer they were fine.

Kara Henderson

We went to the free day last month and yes it was crowded and yes it was hold...but we still had a fun time. This zoo is the perfect size. Large enough to see a lot of animals in large enclosures, but small enough to be manageable in a day or afternoon. The zoo is well maintained...you can tell they take pride in education of their visitors and their care of the animals The carousel is a fav of the kids and my personal favorite is the seal lion / seal show... As well as the bird show in the summer. I usual avoid free days but this one is too good to pass up.

David Cederstrom

The ZOO is fantastic!! Lions and tigers and bears OH MY!! Lots of photo ops, food choices, and the animals were hot and tired!! I recommend going in the early morning hours! The polar bears were active and wonderful!! The bald eagles are absolutely amazing!! At the end of the day when the Zoo was closing the lion was roaring and it was mind blowing and magnificent! It is incredible how loud it is in real life ???? don't miss the zoo!! Take lots of water, gatorade and umbrellas!! Go in the earlier part of the day!!

*** Zoo Lights Review *** This is not a commentary on the Zoo itself. This is a review on the Zoo Lights, which takes place in December. First, they advertise "Come see the animals at night!" NO. Just, no. There are NO animals at night. I've been to this event twice now and guess what? The animals are asleep and hiding. AND the animal pens are completely dark and you can't see inside them anyway. Are the lights cute? Sure. Cute little animal-shaped lights. Many areas are even blocked off, so you don't have access to the entire Zoo. I guess, if you want to freeze your keister off while walking around to see some Christmas lights, sure, make the drive. Sorry, just not worth it to me, especially if you're looking to see animals in their winter habitat - at night.

Chris Allen

They really seem to be trying with this place, and I can admire that. Some beautiful animals, very reasonable price, and a well-organized experience.

C. Shipman

Love the zoo but prices for the food and drinks were outrageous!! Holy crow! 4 bucks for a 21 oz fountain soda!? Highway robbery! I understand the zoo needs money to operate, but they do charge admission prices and have a gift and souvenir shop..also, charging a bit more than normal would be tolerable..but 3 times more than a regular price is outrageous! Next time, my family and I will be going to eat lunch outside the zoo!

Raul Burriel

Plenty of animals worth seeing, unfortunately sometimes you couldnt find them in the enclosure at all. Theres nothing wrong with this zoo, my only quarrel was that many of the zoo associates were younger and the older keepers of the animals were rarely around. This wouldnt have been an issue if all the animals were on display or if they had signs indicating they weren't in their enclosure at the time. They also have giraffe feeding, which was worth waiting for.

Had a lot of fun at Hogle zoo for the boo lights. With COVID restrictions the accessable exhibits can be walked through easily in the evening. My 4-year-old granddaughter and I were able to walk through everything once before the sun went down to see the animals and then have dinner while it got dark and walked through again to see the lights. I was there with a company party so the group there was limited. The only bottleneck was getting food. There was a 30+ minute line at all the food venues all night. The benefit of the long wait though is there is very limited seating to eat so most found a place to eat once got their food. The carousel closed for what I guess was a dinner break. It wasn't indicated that it was reopening so that caused some unnecessary disappointment. After dark most of the animals were sleeping so the lights are the main thing to see. There are lots of lights and that makes it fun. It is very spooky to hear a lion roar in the dark and see him moving through the dark enclosure. Also the monkeys sleeping on the top of posts were unbelievable.

Amber Welch

Hogle Zoo is great fun but be prepared it is up on a mountainside beautiful views, lots of animals and a decent walk.

The summer time is definitely a more filled adventure with the train not always operating and the play grounds closed the kids that were pumped for these attractions were let down. However we always have a good time when we come to the zoo. Going around construction vehicles not our favorite.

I LOVE Hogle Zoo. Every time I've gone, whether in the winter or summer, I've had a great experience. My little family loves trying to spot the animals and the new kid parks are amazing. It's nice to give the kids (and me!) a break from walking around and let them play on the different slides and play equipment. The walking paths are easy to maneuver and I've never felt pressure to buy anything from the gift shop, even when I go in to look around. The animal enclosures are beautifully done and the animals seem happy.

Have not been to the zoo for years, there have been so many nice changes to enclosures, but it is hard to see the animals when there are large crowds

I loved it, I highly recommend it after a year without doing a social life we decided to take the girl for her birthday and the best option I found was to go for a bit of nature and we enjoyed it to the fullest. Everyone is responsible for taking care of themselves and thus taking care of Those who are around us, I promise to return

Matthew Montgomery

We went to the zoo A couple of Sundays ago I really liked that you made a reservation for a certain time it made the park not as busy and we got to see the animals close up

Lynnsie Johnson

Great place to be, and a great atmosphere for dates and family outings. They have done a really great job at bettering the animal encampments and face lifting the customer experience. It still has a few things that could be improved and animal variety, but that will come with time as the zoo continues to grow. I hope they bring the bird show back soon, it was one of my favorite events to go to. Fun for the whole family.

Very nice zoo, with many interesting things to see, like the mixed-animal African exhibit, with good viewing locations/angles. Good gift shop. Many of the animals seemed content in their enclosures, which usually gave them a bit of room to roam and things to do. Hogle is big on opportunities to spend your money. I'm pretty sure there are more cafes, food stands, dipping-dot sellers, souvenir stores of all sizes, rides, etc., than there are exhibits. The whole ends up with an urban, squashed, commercial feel, but it's very nice, anyway. Good bit of parking across the street. Expect a crowd. My OKC zoo pass got me in for half price by going to the member desk. On sunny days, better use that sunscreen and wear a hat -- or get a Hogle hat, like I did.

Really fun zoo! It's on the smaller side, but the animals seem very well cared for and happy. The carousel and the train ride are both inexpensive and a fun treat for kids and adults alike. The area is clean and there was a big focus on conservation and taking care of our earth, which I love to see. Currently around the zoo, there are several life-sized animal art pieces made from litter found in waterways and oceans, and it helps you see what gets left behind. They're a great conversation starter with your kids on how it can be easy to do our part to keep our planet clean (don't leave trash around, pick up what you see, etc). The live bird show was fun to go to! We had many majestic birds glide inches above our heads, it was amazing! Also, the splash pad is a HUGE HIT! We went on a very hot summer day, and the splash pad was a welcome treat!

Tony Tan

We had a great time at the Zoo over the weekend. It was cold since it was the beginning of February. But it was nice because not many people were there and it seemed like the animals were more active (the ones that were out anyways) Not all animals were out but the Zebras were running around the lions were walking around and the bears were very active which us different from what we see during the summer of all the animals lying around. It was a great family day even if it was a little chilly!

We love the Hogle Zoo. From the friendly staff to the clean beautiful animal exhibits. They have the best animal shows that I have seen at any zoo I have been to. Our hands down favorite thing to see at least once a summer in the world of flight bird show. These guys and gals put on the best show around. They are great showmen as well as amazing animal trainers. There is so much to learn and they have something new every time to see the show. We really appreciate the hard work from all the staff at Hogle Zoo to make our experience one to remember each time.

The zoo is a fun place to take the family. They have done some amazing updates and are taking very good care of the exhibits. Love the savanna the Asia exhibit. Now the should update the reptile house. Kind miss the hippo still maybe they could work on a sea exhibit.

Took my 3 grandchildren there while I was visiting them in South Jordan. We enjoyed the entire day, especially the shoes. We were disappointed that bird show was canceled due to wind but staff brought a bunch of birds out for all to see. I'm told the bird show is exceptional. I liked that we could bring our own food in. That made the day more affordable. I only wish you had addl rooms to change baby diapers. Feeding the giraffes was a very cool experience!!

This is a great place to take kids. I recommend coming early in the morning though when the animals are a little more active and it’s cooler out. They have a many different types of animals that are worth seeing. Also their fries are good here. There is a good spot by the bears that have fresh cut fries and is possibly the best place to eat while there. I highly recommend getting a year pass. It gives you something to do during the week now that school is out.

Great zoo... we went today and it had been raining, so it was hard to really see some of the animals. They did move the monkeys indoors to an exhibit that was easy to see them. Obviously I would avoid pouring rain, but don't let drizzles and cloudy weather detour you from visiting!

shadowmagexl

Very cold and snowy, yet the paths were clear and the crowd non-existent, so we had a great time! We saw zebras, lionesses sunning, monkeys with babies, elephants, seals and sea lions (best part), otters, a polar bear, bald eagles, a tiger prowling, another growling, a leopard, gorillas and orangutans, a red panda, snakes, bats, tortoises, a crocodile, fowls, cats, and porcupines. We didn't eat there. The gift shop had a lot of toys. The carousel was fun to watch.

For a company party, we rented out the zoo after 5 PM. At first, it seemed like a lame place to have a party. However, after finally walking around and enjoying the zoo, I had forgotten how amazing it is-even as an adult! The animals are amazing, and it always brings out the child-like wonder when I see them. Other than high inflation costs for concessions and souvenirs, it is a great place to take the kids and show them animals from across the world.

Teagan Badger

Well worth travelling from Northeastern Nevada to visit, in my opinion. They've made some improvements since we visited five years ago. If you have little kids, and forgot your stroller, the zoo's stroller rentals were pretty convenient at $10. We packed our own food in (which is allowed) to save money and time, but the restaurant grub smelled good. It's an attractive, well-built smaller zoo. The polar bear, sea lions, gorillas, lions, tigers, rhinos, and elephants were our favorites. And the meerkats. Go visit!

Caspian O'Donnell

We love the zoo! They are just big enough to make the year pass worth it, and small enough to see everything in one day if you really want to. The staff is polite and the zookeepers take good care of the animals while taking time to talk to the zoo visitors. We always have the best time at the zoo!

Erin Scholten

This is a cute little zoo! They have beautiful animals and a fun train ride and carousel. The staff were very helpful and wanted to make sure you had a great experience. Especially when the tigers are playing hide and seek, so you can't spot them easily. It can get warm so if you are a tourist like me, make sure to bring water and sunscreen.

Jessica Baird

Zoo Lights was amazing. The zoo worked so hard to have put up tons of Christmas lights and make the zoo look magical!

Melloney Watts (Melloney The Wig Guru)

It was a nice day to visit the zoo and with the weather at 54 degrees after spending 4 months in snowy weather it was a beautiful day. The zoo is small and easy to find every animal within the compound. My favorite animals are the giraffes and elephants but no giraffes were out to see and only a baby elephant was on display. Another favorite of mine are the low land gorillas; their enclosure is small but they seem to like it but, I'm not sure. Lots of people in their small building so, I think they were not pleased. The zoo is small and can be walked in 1hr-30mins. If you have small children with you expect to spend the day but on a hot day. The zoo is pretty has lots of cafes and a very nice gift shop. Free parking is a plus, admission is a little steep for the size of the zoo but it's worth it, this is the closes we'll ever get to these types of animals in one small space.

Karla Barton

It's a smaller zoo, but it's a cool one. While we were there, a few of the animals were inside because it was snowy, but overall it was nice. The animals seemed happy, with enclosures that were large and well cleaned. The only things that I wish I had gotten to see were the red pandas and the Pallas's cats. Guess we'll just have to come back.

Jessica H

My family really enjoyed our time at this zoo. The zoo has been completely renovated since the last time I was there and it is gorgeous. The iconic giant marble when you first walk in is still present, which kids adore. There is a little train to let the kids putt around on. Plenty of critters to see as well. I highly recommend.

Susann Kreitzer

Hoping they have more animals and attraction.. Bring your own snacks and drinks with you especially if you go there with the kids. It's very pricey for the beverages especially.

Tony Medina

Great medium sized zoo! Parking is free in the lot. We spent a few hours visiting the habitats and had a great time. There was a cute bird show in the amphitheater mid morning. There is a small train available that circles a third of the zoo that we didn't go on. The meerkats were adorable and so were many others including new baby Wildcats that were wrestling and tumbling.

It is a super fun zoo. Be prepared for a fair amount of walking and hills. It is 20 dollars for an adult and 15 for a child. 2 and under is free. They have a Africa section, wild cats, bears, polar bear, seals, and reptiles and bugs. My kids loved it.

Ken Shan

We enjoyed our trip. It wasn't too crowded, so we enjoyed being able to spend more time at each exhibit and not worry add much about getting in the way. There are multiple view points for animals. You can bring in food and there are picnic tables and benches around. The bathrooms were clean. There aren't very many completely indoor areas. It was pretty chilly when we came. Check the weather beforehand and come prepared.

See the bird show! It was the best part of my visit. Dispite quite a bit of space, this zoo is pretty small. Great for small kids but make sure to bring a stroller or wagon. Its pretty hilly here.

Very well-maintained and cared for zoo with tons of animals! It does get rather hot, but they set large misters and fans up periodically throughout the walking path. A bit pricey, but as long as you bring your own food and drinks, it's not terrible.

Visited the zoo for the first time while on vacation. Lots of animals to see. Very family friendly. Plenty to keep the kids busy. We went on a very hot day with temps in the upper 90's. They had lots of shady spots to rest and had mist hoses up on the paths and near the exhibits. It does cost extra for the carousel and train. My kids liked the carousel, but we felt like the train was a waste of money

Luis Martinez

Always a great experience at hogle zoo. They have really put a lot of thought into their exhibits to make them as natural/comfortable as they can for the animals while still employing great viewing opportunities. We actually did a special behind the scenes giraffe encounter that was absolutely fantastic. We got to ask all the questions we wanted and learn about them directly from their keepers. We even got to hand feed them from the employee only area for a really up close and personal experience!

Amber Clements (Reaper)

This is a nice Zoo. I love that the Zoo participates in ZAP. We go on their periodic free days. They have lots of rest areas. They have a great playground. It is home to a decent variety of animals that seem to be loved and cared for well. Zoo food is expensive but that is a given. Always a good time at Hogle Zoo.

Unfortunately it was hot and the animals had all just eaten when my party arrived, so most of them were sleeping! The animals looked well cared for, the park was CLEAN! Even though there were like 5 schools visiting that day.

Lana Dahle

Great zoo, lots of animals on display in such a way that you don't spend 15 minutes at each trying to find them. The polar bears are a bunch of clowns that definitely entertain and pretty much steal the show. Not to disparage the other animals but don't skip the polar bears if you go.

Beth Given

Went to the zoo lights. There are plenty of places to stop in and get warm at. Wasn't expecting to see any animals but saw sea lions, lynx, and tigers. Could easily spend 2 hours looking at the lights and getting something to eat.

A bit of this and that,.

Fun zoo. A lot of the animals were hiding, but most were out and doing animal stuff. I was impressed with how clean it is and I only saw a couple of people who were actively cleaning things. They are really good or the visitors are really respectful. All of the interpretive staff my family interacted with were very friendly and knowledgeable. Nice touches on some of the walkways having interesting textures and imprints of plants and animals tracks. It's a shame everyone else was wearing shoes; the brave barefoot ones like me get the full experience ????????

If anyone ever asks you if the Hogle Zoo is worth visiting in the winter, don't hesitate: It is. The animals are out and about — at least most of them — and they're pretty active. You'll want to dress warmly, but you'll get an excellent zoo experience in late December. Maybe I'll have to go again in February to double check this idea. Hmm. Anyway, great zoo! I'm a big fan.

Connor Martin

The Hogle Zoo is great. So much fun to bring the kiddos out to learn about these amazing animals. The park is large enough to never really feel overcrowded even if the parking lot is full. The only days to avoid are field trips which you can call in and ask about. We bought the $99 annual pass which makes it so you don't have to stay all to to get your money's worth. Only a few trips out will pay for the pass. The animals are also very interactive and fun. Highly recommended this place to have some fun and get some exercise.

Also I don't like the idea that you get charged extra for the train ride or carousel. The membership options were not the best fit for me.

We have been here a few times and the kids always have fun. There is a lot to see and a couple of areas for kids to run and play to work out some extra energy :) Boo at the Zoo was a fun experience. The trick-or-treat line was long and time consuming but the girls enjoyed wearing their costumes and seeing the animals. My mom was visiting and has a medical issue with her knees, we went early to get an electric cart but they were gone (season pass holders get in early) - it was disappointing to see so many sitting there in disrepair when there is apparently such a high demand.

We arrived 5 minutes before gates opened at 9am. There was plenty of parking and only a few families in the ticket line. We spent over an hour looking at exhibits but we could have easily spent 3 hours if we had spent time at the splash pad, playground, and carousel. We enjoyed the way the zoo was spread out and the life size stone and metal animal figurines placed around the zoo. As we made our way to the exit around 10:30, the zoo was pretty busy and navigating around people was challenging. We're glad we arrived first that morning where we practically had the entire place to ourselves. Recommend going early to beat the crowd.

My kids had a blast watching the zookeepers do their jobs, especially hiding food in the puzzles for certain animals. It was a cooler, over cast the day we went. So many of the animals were outside and having a good time. My polar bear obsessed child was thrilled to sit and watch the polar bear swim laps for 10 minutes! There are a good number of water fountains AND bathrooms. The bathroom near the entrance even has a nursing room! Bring a water bottle and maybe some snacks (plenty of trash cans also, so don't litter!). Wear good shoes as there are a few spots with a good uphill/downhill. There are several places available to purchase food but they are fairly pricey.

It was an okay experience many exhibits closed or animals not there. We stopped by the zoo before we caught our plane and it was just okay. We did the train ride but again animals not there and it was really short. Not much going on however but it was a pretty decent experience.

My family and I loved the Zoo. Went the Friday of memorial weekend and I must say it was crazy busy. Waited about 20 minutes in line for tickets to get in. Some exhibits were closed which was a bummer but other than that it was fun. I’d recommend bringing in your own lunch, drinks &snacks. Even some toys to steer your toddlers away from the crazy priced toys there! Lol Also highly recommend stroller/wagon for toddlers, it’s a lot of walking for a young child especially when going up Hill after the seeing the Cheetahs.

Jenny Morris

Had a good time at the zoo. Spent about 4-5 hours looking at all the animals, eating lunch, and playing on the playground. My 2 year old son had a great time.

David Smith

It was super hot, but fortunately they had cool mist zones throughout the zoo. Luckily, we caught the giraffe feeding (offered at 11 and 1pm when we were there), because the kids love that. The polar bears were really active and fun to watch. In fact, all the animal were pretty active, even in the heat of the day. The signage/education was well done, and it was interesting to learn that one of the rhinos wears a mask (that she can see through) to help with her eye allergies.

Rachel Norton

I always love going to the zoo! My son that is 3 had a blast! And my other son that is 1 absolutely loved the polar bear that was swimming around! My husband got me this rino sruffed animal and it's basicly my new pillow! I'm sharing just some of the photos I took!(:

I love the Hogle zoo. I've been going for over 20 years now. And the efforts they continuously make to create a home for the animals is astounding. It's amazing to see how far they've come, I can't wait to see how they continue to do better for the animals and guests. They are heavily involved in conservation efforts for as many species as they're given the privilege. One of my personal favorite touches is the statue that they have by the outdoor gorilla exhibit, a statue of an ape names Gorgeous, I remember her from when I was a kid. And was so sad when she passed so each time I pass her memorial it pulls a few heart strings. Thank you Hogle zoo for allowing us to love your animals!

House Full Of Boys

Just plain fun. Staff awsome great with kids and adults both, lots of knowledge and willing to share with us so we can learn. Nice exhibits with information as well. Good food. Great gift shop. I would recommend this to all who love a great way to learn and have fun with animals. Train ride was great. Conductor very funny and lots to show us as well as teach us. The play park and water area is a real bonus. Thanks to all for a fabulous day.

Camron Jones

The orangutans were sooo funny! My little brother has the same hair color and it came up right to him and reached up to him like it thought he was one of them or something!

So much fun to visit.. today was the best. Got to see all of the animals.. and up close because of the heated areas for them.

Eric Gibson

People not wearing masks, sanitizers not working or empty, train broken down. No bird show, it used to be the highlight. Too many animals missing. Just not the fun zoo of the passed. Grandkids liked the water feature.

Tina Smith

Smaller zoo, but kept my young kids entertained for a few hours. We went on a rainy day but plenty of animals still out and active. Didn't feel very restricted here with COVID-19 compared to previous visits. One of their gorillas had just given birth and we were able to see her with the baby so that was pretty neat.

Wonderful zoo, not many animals out, but some of that was the hot weather. Nice location and parking. Tad expensive, but the animals need the love so we were happy to pay. A must see location.

Great Zoo, nice large exhibits and lots of room for viewing.

A fun little zoo to visit. We visited before we had to fly back it took about 2 hours to go through the whole zoo at a leisurely pace. One of the few zoos that I've been to that has a art gallery you can pick up some very awesome and unique art. I definitely recommend coming here if you need to kill some time between plans.

Melissa Chidester

I've enjoyed Zoo Lights in previous years, but they added some beautiful almost sculpture-like pieces this year that made it even better. If you have enjoyed this type of event previously, then definitely check it out this year. There are probably a dozen more animals besides the ones I took pictures of.

We came here a few months ago with our two kids (2.5 and 4) and my parents. We had a blast with them! The kids especially loved the new water play area and could’ve spent all day there. We also enjoyed the bird show and had fun looking at every animal. We sure have a blast every time we come here.

This was a great zoo, small as it was. There were terrific habitats that made seeing the animals incredibly easy. It was spacious and clean. The train was a unique feature but we opted to not use it since we prefer to stop and enjoy the animals rather than be rushed past them on a ride. Bring some cash for things like the marry-go-round and such. Kids loved it.

Linn Breeding

I love this zoo! The bird show is definitely the best part, but everything here is wonderful. I've gone on normal summer days and even to their 21+ Zoo Brew night and it was the best. They animals all seem happy and well taken care of.

Cindi Jensen

We love this zoo! They put on a bunch of holiday events and are open year round. The bird show is awesome too!

Jaron Packer

Clean and well kept zoo. The animals seemed happy and my kids were even happier. The train ride is fun but short. The new playground and splash pad section is so fun! A great way to cool off on hot days at the zoo. There are so many great free photo ops too! Sculptures of lions, a birds nest, giraffes, river otters, and elephant, all free for kids to crawl on and adults to take pictures. There are plenty of educational and hands on experiences. The bird show is a family favorite.

Valorie Baird

Always loving coming to this zoo. So much fun and lots to see. My munchkin always loves coming here.

On a special trip to Utah to visit my daughter, son in law and their children one of the things we went to do was to go to the Hogle Zoo. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun, there were quite a few shade areas as well as electric wheelchairs and accessories for the handicapped in elderly. The souvenirs were a little bit more expensive than I had anticipated but hey when you have as much fun as we did it's worth it. I hope to be able to go again because I did have so much fun.

KiriAunna Booi

Hogle zoo has done such an excellent job updating the habitats for the animals over the last 10 years! We love the zoo!!

Michi Berger

Josh Baugh

Was on hols in SLC last week, visiting from Belgium. Went to visit Hogle's during their last "Winter Wednesdays" which was FOC. Goodness me, those huge crowds!! Not sure I envisioned that when wanting to have a "relaxing day" at the Zoo. Definately not when there were lots of children who were constantly tapping (read : banging!) on the windows of the animals' cages! When small kiddies can't read the signs which are all over the Zoo, one may expect that their parents may teach them NOT to do so as this causes stress on the animals. Unfortunately not... I've even witnessed Mums who were tapping those windows together with their children! Where's the respect towards the animals and plain decency of certain adults? The Zoo itself : I may be biased as I'm from Belgium and in our Zoo's there are very strict regulations on the size of an animal's confinements. They're pretty big to huge to give the animals the required space. (by Belgian law). Although I got to hear different opinions about Hogle's prior to visiting, I felt quite at unease having to witness how small most confinements/cages were ☹️ Sorry to say! Plus, that very loud "Choo-Choo Train" riding around in circles all day where the African animals are (giraffes, zebra's, ostriche, etc.) : surely certain animals must become neurotic by that!? Why not re-built a railtrack that covers the entire park, but only rides at the outside lines of the Zoo? Personally, I believe the animals would benefit from that. From all Zoo's I've already visited I was overall quite disappointed in Hogle's. Reason : either expand the park so the current animals would get more space. Or if not possible, reduce the amount of animals and give them the required, larger space. They deserve it! ????

Justin Starr

Such a fun place to visit with the family! The zoo is week organized so you don't have to do a lot of backtracking to see everything. There are a variety of animals and they all look well taken care of. Throughout the day they do various shows which are both fun and informative.

R. Ewell

Wonderful staff and a great zoo. Beautiful layout and great experiences. The gift shop and restaurants are great. All in all a wonderful place to bring large families or children.

R. Ewell

April Hogue

Annual Pass holder here! We love this zoo! They have sunrise and sunset safari days for members who get to enjoy extended hours. It's a beautifully kept zoo and the animals are always active and happy. You can feed the giraffes and interact with the animals and learn about them. The zoo workers and volunteers are always willing to answer questions and share the details about the animals. The bird show is worth the wait.

We come here multiple times throughout the year and it's been great every time. The people are nice, animals well taken care of, decent fair admission price. Free for 2 and under. You can walk there entire thing in an hour if you're fast. Lots of food and drink and activities. Kids loved the little splash pad area too. Bring swimming clothes!

Amber Lessing

Not a large zoo, but the exhibits are well done. Highly recommend if you want a couple hours of fun. The Lions were sleeping directly in front of the viewing area that day. A small example of what made this zoo stand out.

Travis Reed

Surprisingly good zoo. Came later in the day and they were feeding the animals, so we were able to see almost all of the animals. The facilities are really nice and up to date. You do get what you pay for. Very helpful and nice people to provide information and teach the kids a few things too. Would recommended.

Savannah Arellano

Loved it loved it loved it!!! So many great exhibits and so many animals that were moving around. We r from boise and the zoo is embarrassing there so I was very excited bring our kids here. It seems as though all the exhibits r well maintained and make it as close to a real habitat as possible. The polar bears, sea lions, and seals seem to have a nice livable area. My only recommendation is to upgrade the zoofari as it is not very good for anyone. Oh yeah, maybe a wider variety of beverages. Thank you

Christopher Perez

I took my son to the zoo. I was disappointed. It may be because of the hot weather. Only a few animals can be seen. Most of the animals are hidden. I have been to zoos in other states. The price is half the price here and it is more spacious than here. There are many animals, more green spaces and indoor animals to watch!

Fun place to go especially on their free admission days. They have play equipment for the kids. The exhibits are fun to look at and not too big to hit in one day. We went while it was raining so some of the animals were asleep in their holes or cubbies. The small animal exhibit was super fun to walk through but pretty stinky. Get ready to get hit in the face with pungent bird feces smell. Yikes. But it didn't keep me from seeing all the fun animals. They also have a train but it wasn't running due to weather. All in all i liked it and so did the kids. Parking was a mad house but that was expected.

Mrs. Cabalis

I feel like we could definitely have a better zoo in Utah. We go once a year and every time we do it’s just a disappointment. The animals are barley out, most of everything is closed down, and there’s nothing really happening now that the bird show came to a close. I’d travel somewhere better for your buck.

Jake Blade

Plenty of animals for small kids to see. The zoo is big enough that it will wear out little ones very quickly so bring a stroller.

Katelyn Shoemaker

We love coming to this zoo. It's hit and miss with the animals because they look annoyed???? Carousel and Train rides are fun and not expensive! People were not very cautious of covid (not 6 feet apart) but the zoo had many reminders and did their very best to enforce cdc guidelines. Our favorite part were the ????seals and how they did tricks. Asian highlands is amazing(tigers and exotic animals). I wish they had koalas and panda bears! It took us about 2.5 hours to see everything and do the rides. Overall it was a great time!!

Corey Smalley

The day we went was a free day and it was cold and rainy. The kids were still a little young to really enjoy it, but I'm excited to go back in the future. Cool animals that look well taken care of and it was clean and the employees were nice.

Fantastic zoo. Flew here from Denver. This would be in my top 5 favorites. Yes, I've been to a lot of zoos. I have a lot more to get to. It is so beautiful in it's location. To see the beauty in the zoo and the mountains that surround the zoo. The animals were active and we got to see plenty of them. Food was kind of expensive. Definitely a good zoo to come to.

The perfect day activity with little kids even when it's packed! It's been a few years since I visited Hogle Zoo and the new renovations are awesome. The Giraffe, Elephant, and bear exhibits are amazing. Now you get close enough to feed the Giraffes and see how long their tongues are. The kids sat and watched the Sea Lions swim around for a good 30 minutes. We also loved the new playground and splash pad! Even though the parking was completely full, the crowds inside the zoo were totally fine.

I haven't been to Hogle Zoo for quite a few years and I was impressed with the changes. The new enclosures seem much better for animals and visitors. I went with young grand kids and they had a great time. We saw a polar bear swimming laps (with flip turns!). The giraffes were prancing around the savannah, and the baby gorilla was hanging on to Mom's arm while she walked around!

The World of Flight bird show is the reason we buy an annual pass! Yes, the other animals and their environments are great, they are, but a free flighted bird show like this is almost impossible to find anywhere else and definitely worth seeing!

My family loves the zoo! This zoo is smaller but the perfect size. A lot of people can do the zoo in a few hours but we can spend the whole day here. Most every animal is located conveniently. They have improved so many of the habits over the last 30 years that it is such a different zoo from when I was a kid. My family loves the different decorations for each season. The zoo pass/season pass is very reasonable. We love to visit zoos when we travel but this zoo is still so much fun to come too.

Jeff Bennett

Great place! Day passes are not cheap, but it is a beautiful zoo with lots of quality exhibits. Our kids had a great time.

Deanne Jones

This place is great to take kids to or just as a get away from the world for you and your other half, It is worth the gate fee to get in & see the animals but as far as it goes for food it is over priced for low end food, I have had better out of a frozen box from Walmart then they have here. The train seems cool I haven't gone on it with my family yet but it looks like it is a good amount of the area and looks like it would show you a lot that you may not otherwise see but again I haven't been on it so can't say just yet. So in closing would I pay to go back... yes, but I would eat before going or take so.etjing to snack on that I can get pass the gate up front lol.

Frissdas1207

The Hogle Zoo is such a fun place to visit. They are AZA accredited and take great care of the animals. They have fun bird shows and giraffe feedings daily. They also have elephant trainings and sealion/seal training during the day. The best times to go are the early mornings and later evenings because there are more animals active. They have a few places to get food and have fun dishes.

Kathryn Hoopes

Small to medium-sized zoo but makes the most of it with a broad variety of interesting and rare animals. The animals are well cared for and appear healthy, content and active. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. They have this tortoise that just looks like a huge boulder. It's awesome.

Kyle Slaughter

This zoo is not one of the larger ones around the country. But this is an excellent place to take kids (or adults) who might only want to spend 3-4 hours as opposed to the whole day. Very clean facilities and the food, while pricey, is better than average. Hogle Zoo is a pretty nice zoo, although it’s fairly small for a city of Salt Lake’s size. I used to go here a lot when I was little and really liked it but they have done a ton of work since then to make it nicer. The buildings are nice and kept clean, and there are good animals to see here. It is often extremely crowded and parking is kind of a disaster, but if you are good with dealing with the crowds, it’s a nice place. Occasionally they do an event called Zoo Brew that is only for adults and they serve alcohol at different areas within the zoo. I have done this a couple times and I think it’s pretty fun. It’s also very crowded and the lines for alcohol are pretty insane, but it’s still a good time

Carlos Barredo

Fantastic zoo right in the heart of Salt Lake City. Loads of animals to see, and it all seems like it has a good flow to it. There are social distancing measures in place but they don't detract from the experience. Because of Covid, they limit the amount of guests per hour, which in turn, made the experience that much better! No lines to see animals, no big crowds or groups, really nice. I'll definitely be back!

Vincent Nabozny

It was amazing definitely a great place to take the family

Rhondelle Murphy

I love that this zoo is tucked away in the foothills! Very accessible while still being hidden away. Snow in wintertime makes for a magical experience; there are still plenty of animals out and active in the cold temperatures. Watch on their website for Wild Wednesdays in winter months when there is free admission.

Greg Smith

It's not a huge zoo, but it certainly has a lot of unique animals! They make the most of the space and have many family friendly activities.

Stephanie Benson

Way overpriced when my 34 week pregnant self can walk the whole zoo in an hour and a half. I'm no expert on how habitats should be set up but the larger animals (cats mainly) seem to have been in small exhibits. Definitely will not be returning.

Yvette Wallin

Coming from California for a good vacation and going to the zoo with my family is amazing it's really small zoo but it keeps the family entertain and being around the animals... Especially that it's my first time being here I like it... I would definitely come here again...

I remember how this zoo as a kid. To see what's it's become now is truly amazing. Hogle Zoo this Morning! The lions had enrichments today, We had a chance to speak with the DNR & Zoo representatives and they were feeding on Elk. These animals are found locally either by way of roadkill or being seized, they are then frozen for 30 days before being fed to the lions. As We were talking with them, a load of Deer were being delivered. What an awesome local circle of life.

Desiree Neill

I haven't been to the zoo in a long time, but 8 had a lot of fun. I went in late March, on a pretty nice day, so it was kinda crowded, but the animals were pretty active.

We love Hoagle Zoo! I grew up in Northern Utah and have been enjoying this Utah treasure since as far back as I can remember. They are always adding something new or changing exhibits so it always feels like a different place. There are tons of photo ops for kids and family like the many statues around the zoo. Every visit the animals appear clean and well taken care of. The gift shop and souvineer shopping is massive. They have a carousel and a train! Many restrooms and drinking fountains which are a must with young kids along. The only thing I get a bit sad about is that years and years back they had a wax machine that you could watch mold you the shape of an animal. There are buildings and covered areas if you want to escape the weather and still see the critters from. Our favorite was the polar bear, he swam with a ball the whole time and it was adorable. My youngest loved the new splash pad playground area, it helped lots with the heat of the summer!

I went to Zoo Lights for the first time this year and had a blast! All the information I needed as far as what to expect was on the website, there were warming stations throughout the zoo, and Santa was so sweet and stayed just a little longer so we could get a picture with him. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the Lantern Animals that were on display this year were beautiful! Not very many of the animals were very active by the time we got there, but the lights and displays and the few animals we did see made it worth going. It was also really nice to be able to pay just for Zoo Lights, as we couldn't get there until later in the evening. You'll definitely want to bundle up and plan to stop at the S'mores and hot chocolate stand!

I loved it!!!! But they really need to enforce the masks, I got sneezed on by a man not wearing his mask! And my body can't handle sickness well, but overall was a great experience and an awesome place for kids and adults to have some fun!!!????

Utah's Hogle Zoo is by far one of the best metropolitan zoos in the country! They have received grants and funding from the city and county of Salt Lake through is parks and recreation depts. Our favorite exhibit was the polar bear exhibit. If you could have seen what these magnificent animals had for an.exhibit ten or fifteen years ago to what they have now, you would be amazed. It's a completely new facility with a huge swimming area that the two female bears love, check out my videos of threse two bears at play. The zoo also brings in exotic animals and will always let the public know what animal is or isn't on the endangered species list. They also have special events happening daily like an exotic bird show where many of the birds like a golden eagle will swoop down over the top of the audience within inches of the audience's heads. In fact one pass during our show, the eagle's wing actually hit my oldest son on his forehead and nose. Utah's Hogle Zoo is a 42-acre zoo located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It houses animals from diverse ecosystems. It is located at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. Bring in your own food, or there are plenty of dining experiences all around the zoo property, the Zoo also has a hand built carousel with hand carved wooden animals and a stream train ride around some of the zoos rather docile animals.

Went here right at opening time and I'm glad I did because it got really crowded around noon. Convenient to get to from downtown SLC. Did the feed the gorillas experience which was neat and very educational (you don't get to go near the gorillas; they give you frisbees with treats to throw into their habitat)

Love it. Train ride is kinda a waste besides seeing a donkey lol need to display the big cats better but other than that I love this place :-)

This is a great Zoo to visit with your kids! I really enjoyed this and it is fantastic for kids. I went on a weekday and it was empty so we got to see all the animals alone. There are lots of different animals and there are parks and some small rides for kids. I definitely recommend this place for families! Kids of all ages can enjoy it. I would recommend packing food, since the food there can be pricey.

Have had a blast at Hogle Zoo. The enclosures that have been built to accommodate the needs of the housed animals are great. The ability to see animals playing and interacting with each other has been delight. We went to Zoolights this year and it was beautiful. An ice sculpture, gorgeous lanterns and lots of fun activities.

Catherine Burson

A little over priced most the animals were sleeping or not out in their cages to be able to see them. Overall still had a great time with the kids.

Decent-sized zoo. At first it seems extremely tiny but it’s bigger than you originally think when you first walk in. As a new Mom, I brought it was pretty cool that in the bathroom area they have a separate room for nursing moms. I’d suggest getting a pass if you want to go more than once a year. The entrance fee for my family was well on our way to covering that cost (and they let you apply the amount you pay that day toward a membership, too).

My daughter loved going there and seeing the animals. She had fun playing on the light house going down the slide. She rode on the ferris wheel we rode on the giraffe's the first time then her and papa went on it. Oh and was cool the lion roared tried to get video but to many talking to hear it on video.

Always a good time at the zoo! Train ride could use some updating but the exhibits are nice, food is good, and staff is friendly.

Chris Valkoe

Absolutely amazing to experience while it's snowing!! Really fun for the kids. They had hot cocoa and places to stop and warm up as well.

Anna Lucy

The weather was cold so most of the animals and people were inside. With sufficient patience you could see most things.

Chris Arroyo

Went October 23rd. Nice small/medium size zoo. Some food buildings were closed. Some animal displays were closed. We had a good time.

Alex Lehr

The zoo was so fun for me and my kids! I was grateful they had a multitude of indoor exhibits--as well as the outdoor ones--and plenty of shade coverings. The huge, male gorilla came right up to the glass, and we were all so in awe, because we were so up close!! We all enjoyed the fun elephant show, and will definitely be going back again. I was tempted to take off a star because the signage for the zoo itself and the parking and overflow parking are basically non-existent, but our experience was more than enough to make up for it.

My family and I loved the Zoo. Went the Friday of memorial weekend and I must say it was crazy busy. Waited about 20 minutes in line for tickets to get in. Some exhibits were closed which was a bummer but other than that it was fun. I’d …

This place had really stepped up their game. The enclosures are beautiful and spacious. The African Safari exhibit looks gorgeous. I really appreciate their efforts towards education and sustainability as well.

Maddy Montgomery

Great family time and the kids loved all the unique animals. Word to the wise though... don't go during the afternoon to start, all the animals were sleeping and hiding because it was to hot so we missed allot.

Rahman Sajid

What an awesome zoo. I haven't been to the zoo in so long, but this one was worth it while on vacation. So many animals out and playing too.

Was an amazing time seeing the lights great experience and very fun

Beautiful day for being outside! Not busy on a Tuesday afternoon, and the animals were all more active than I've seen previously! So neat to see them more than just napping. Very clean, as well. Lots of hand sanitizing stations throughout the zoo. Bathroom by the entrance was well kept. A lot of the exhibits and food places were closed (probably for the winter I'm guessing) but still enjoyable nonetheless!

Took the grandkids to see the Christmas lights. Not quite worth the price per person, but it was a good time. We didn't see many real animals but the kids loved the lights. Purchase tickets ahead of time as it was not fun waiting for tickets and then waiting to gain entrance. Too us at least 30 minutes just to get in the park!

Bob Hinley

Good field trip or family excursion. They had an art exhibit in the education building that we really enjoyed. Almost always a good view of the Lions, sea lions, seals, often tigers, etc. Bears are harder to see but really cool. I'd say 2 hours is a pretty good amount of time in the winter to see about everything. Carousel is unique and beautiful- costs $2 per kid. They have outdoor seating if you bring your own food or indoor seating if you buy food at the Beastro.

Kenyon Petersen

It was an okay experience many exhibits closed or animals not there. We stopped by the zoo before we caught our plane and it was just okay. We did the train ride but again animals not there and it was really short. Not much going on however but it was a pretty decent experience.

yuliya jawale

Their new giraffe exhibit is awesome! The kids also loved the Red Panda. Plenty of places to sit and eat lunch. They do allow outside food. :)

This is a really great zoo, what a wonderful place for a day visit for the family. Public areas are nice and clean restrooms are clean gift shop is fun. Animals look really well taken care of in their enclosures. nice looking, clean, animals roaming around playful which is always a great sign. Nothing too out of the ordinary or more interesting than others but is still a really great place to spend the day.

Anastacia Kaddas

Great place to spend time with the kids, fun and educational, first time coming here and had a great time, FYI you do have to purchase additional tickets to ride the train and the carousel, this is not included in the general admission, i did not know this and there were no signs at the line that said i needed tickets to ride them or atleast we didn't notice any. We didn't get any maps of the zoo at the entrance and we did not see any map stations for guide near the main entrance, we purchased our tickets online. The food was good and over all the experience was good, but they have plenty of room for improvements. I was confused at the carousel, some parents with their child were let in to ride with only 1 ticket and others including me had to use 2 tickets, same scenario 1 kid 1 parent', not sure why?, i even asked the operator if i had to use 1 ticket or 2 and she just took both my tickets, its the small details that make a big difference on your experience.

A premium price for a substandard experience. Exhibits seemed underwhelming. Animal habitats seemed small. Despite zoo being quite full of guests, concession stands appeared pathetic and uninviting. No military or veterans discounts (some websites listing attractions in and near Salt Lake City suggest such discounts are available). I'm not happy with buying 16oz cans of Dasani for $4. I'd prefer to buy a refillable bottle for 10 dollars and get refills of water. Instead they offer 20 dollar steel flasks at an out of the way gift shop, and they don't seem to offer many refill opportunities. My kids were not impressed

It's not the perfect zoo but it is very good. We spent a whole day there. The polar bears were totally amazing. The red panda was pretty neat as well.

Pleasant smaller zoo. Easily done in 2-3 hours. Not as many animals out and about during winter, but no crowds either.
