This Zoo corresponds to the category of Zoo.
I have mixed feelings about keeping large, wild animals in captivity, but I understand the value of a zoo's role in conserving endangered animals. I enjoy visiting the zoo with my family, but some visitors have a tendency to be downright inconsiderate of the living creatures. Tossing objects into the enclosures, screaming and yelling at them, banging on the windows to get their attention. I'm hoping in the future more staff and volunteers can be brought in to monitor the exhibits and do a bit more visitor education on how to behave around the animals. Otherwise, this is a lovely place to visit to admire not only the zoological wildlife, but the botanical life as well.

The best Zoo and SO MUCH to see. Get ready to walk (seriously because this place is big). So many wonderful animals and exhibits but also helpful staff and restrooms along the way. There are animals from penguins, giraffes, hippos, grizzly bears, red pandas…too many to share. There’s also many grassy areas to rest or have a picnic as well as beautiful carousel for rides. There are in and out privileges if you get a stamp so feel free to pack a lunch or snacks for the day or leave to the car if you need. They also have an on-site restaurant to order a variety of food options. Also which animals you see may depend on the time of day or temperature or eating times so it always varies. Right now masks are necessary for inside areas.
Animals were hard to find in some enclosures. Overall had a good experience. If you go, go in the morning or afternoon. Not the end of the day :-)

Very nice zoo! It’s very shady and very pretty in certain areas to walk through. I was sad to see though the indoor rainforest part was closed :( Lot of the animals were out and about active. There bear was awesome! I wish though you had the old ice cream( the one with color around it), and the parking is ridiculous. It use to be one price flat now it goes by hour and it ridiculous. But that’s Seattle for you I guess But overall was very nice

Came here back in August 2018 and it is an amazing zoo to walk around with some family and friends to look at the animals. There are so many different types of animals to see and other buildings as well. Biggest highlight of my trip here.

The zoo has a lot here to look at. Lots of animals, some are fairly active so your not just looking at sleeping Joe's all day. From a family perspective it's a great place to spend time with the kids and have some fun. From a single visitor perspective. You're going to be stuck behind kids glued to the glass unless you're going on a weekday where it's less busy. 4 stars because your visit is determined by your park length commitment and not all exhibits were open at the time. Otherwise decent place to go!

I absolutely loved this zoo!! The exhibits are so nice and the walkways are beautiful with all the trees and lush plants. It is a must see/visit...
Do yourself a favor, go see Zoo Lights while it is available, an amazing family and outdoor covid safe experience!

Hadn't been to the zoo for several years. This is a nice zoo that wasn't too crowded. Easily doable in an afternoon, our biggest challenge was finding our way around. The signage isn't very good and they don't provide maps anymore... Visitors can just download online. Lots of shade and places to rest as needed. Tips... Buy tickets online in advance and try parking in one of the lots on the west or north sides of the park.

There was alot of staff present, the animals have tons of room which is great to see. Anytime I asked staff about anything they were all very helpful and knowledgeable. Pricing for tickets was very affordable, the gift shop is a bit pricey, but I semi expect that as it probably helps maintain the animals. Overall probably the best zoo in the Pacific Northwest.
Weekday
I was here for a special event so I'm not sure how the zoo is during regular hours, but I can say this: the exhibit design was absolutely phenomenal, the zoo is very sustainable, the trails were nice, and they've got cute gift shops. They have not only recycling bins but also compost bins, refillable water stations, reusable bags, and they sell a lot of sustainable and recycled stuff in the gift shops. The collection of animals is great and I saw a lot of enrichment. Fantastic facility!!
1st, dress warm! That said, the walk through the lights was a fantastic time. A nice slow down time. In addition, the staff was helpful and friendly. All the light displays are new and very fun. You must have a vaccine card to enter, and tickets need to be purchased online.

Very pretty landscaping as you walk thru. The signage posted was lacking detail and confusing making it difficult to strategically see all the exhibits without going across the park several times. There were rats everywhere, inside exhibits and crossing walking paths. A staff person indicated they are normally around because of droppings although I've never seen or heard of rats around a zoo before. The staff was very kind and informative along the way.

We visited zoo on Christmas eve,it’s cold and very few people. Actually the zoom is bigger than my expectation and definitely need half day to visit all. Also I saw few animals which I never saw before, meerkat, tapir.
Weekend
Even with COVID19 precautions restricting several exhibits still this was a great time for the kiddos and we saw these animals actually moving instead of looking miserable. The enclosures look better and better every time we visit and the animal came right up to the zoo keepers every time one was near. I have a love-hate relationship with zoos but this was a great time.
The Woodland Park Zoo Lantern shown is Spectacular. Very well done and enjoyable to walk through, with friends or family, and enjoy the artistry and atmosphere. #Woodland Park Zoo

Huge zoo!! Lots of animals!! The kids loved it and so did we!!
Wasn't to busy. Kids had fun. It's a big zoo. Lots of walking. Need a second visit to see the rest. Price was reasonable. Parking wasn't to expensive.
The zoo is pretty empty not sure where most the animals are. Little disappointed ☹️ but overall, my two kids are happy to see animals up close.
We spent 4 hours walking around there where a few exhibits that where under construction. We also only seen a few animals there where alot of empty exhibits.

Wowza. We came here in winter, which is objectively, a bad time to visit a zoo. Regardless of that, we had a great time. We couldn't get tickets to the lantern show they do at night, but we saw all the amazing displays around the park while exploring. The animals that were out and about were awesome, the monkeys that go "woooOOOOO" are the best. 1 star deducted because the food was really a let down. The stalls were closed so we had to go to the food court, and even by food court standards, the service and food were bad. Bring your own snacks and water and you'll have a great time
Large zoo with beautiful exhibits. The greenery is amazing here. We loved the gorillas, grizzly bear, and penguins! They were really interactive today. The food was decent but expect to pay $$$.

Kids were excited to go zoo on nice sunny day.. Every animal the kids, wanted to see it was big disappointment for them because nearly all animals were no where to be seen everything was empty. Lot's of parking, we recommend going in the morning to beat the crowds and so you can enjoy looking at all of the animals. We walked around the whole zoo and it took us about 2 hours to complete. There were a lot of enclosures and animals. Our favorites were the monkeys, tiger, elks and the hippos! Great place to bring the family. We paid around $30 for 2 people including tax, great price for a day trip. There were a lot of areas where you could sit and enjoy the animals and have a picnic.

Absolutely loved it. Wish the animals would've been out more. Maybe next time.
I love the zoo here and always have :) I was so excited to find that WPZ had a flying fox enclosure recently! I don't really know what to say, except that I've only had good experiences here, and the animals are treated well. A porcupine decided she would take her time getting out of her crate at a show, and the keeper noted that they do t force animals to do anything, just train some ambassadors with positive reinforcement. Even with pouring rain, the Wild Lanterns event was super cool.

Who doesn't love a good zoo trip? Each corner filled with little pockets of what feels like magic. Taking you from continent to continent. Decent pricing, love that you can bring a Picnic. Don't like that parking is so expensive now
We had a really nice time at this zoo! It's very well maintained, and the focus is on conservation and education. The location is great and is well-serviced by public transportation.
Was so much fun. Wasn’t crowded around 10 but once noon hit the zoo was packed. Food is expensive so I would bring snack next time. Very clean and the employees were so nice and very informative.
Great zoo! Solid covid precautions, wasn't as packed as it used to be. Got to see almost all the animals except a few in the temperate forest exhibit that's currently being remodeled. The petting zoo isn't nearly what it was but that's to be expected. Great time, enjoyed everything we got to see. Did not visit the dinosaur exhibit as it cost a bit extra- I think $5 or so- but that was fine. From what I saw was mostly large animatronics. Gift shop was open, food was available, staff was helpful. Would go again!
Loved walking through this zoo! It’s very well planned out. During my experience it started raining really hard but my girlfriend and I continued to walk through the zoo! I think our experience was more fun with the rain and all! It’s a good place to go to kill some time and enjoy something that’s not super exhausting.

Awesome Zoo. The bigger of the 2 here in the Puget Sound. More than double the size of Point Defiance Zoo. No aquarium here but plenty to see. Lots of animals and hands on to see and do. You can definitely spend an entire day here. Parking near the zoo is paid parking but if you look around there are places you can park for free.
We love animals.....and our first time there didn't disappoint. Saw some animals we have never seen before. Overall....it was a great experience!
The Zoo that once was. The park itself is nice but there isn't really much to see right now. A large portion of the park is unavailable and several animals have been moved out. There is a long wait for the gift shop and other amenities. I recommend waiting until more restrictions are lifted and calling ahead to ask what is available. Download the 'paybyphone' app in advance to pay for your parking.

World class conservation of both flora and fauna. The topography is almost as exciting as the animal exhibits! The only improvement I would ask for is, PLEASE more accessibility for people that come from lower income brackets. This is a well funded zoo.. animals make us more human and everyone should be able to go feel that connection.. you'll have a wonderful time at this zoo❤

Most animals here are living more in habitats than exhibits, which seems the only reasonable future for zoological gardens. This zoo is brilliantly arranged. It packs an amazing amount into its space, but feels spacious and massive. You lose track of the fact that you're near streets, much less inside Seattle. The other not-large zoos I've seen are laughable and cruel compared to this one. Yet the people watching is indeed excellent, and the visiting kids are well accommodated. Annual membership is very reasonably priced. A loving, organized troop of locals clearly keep this place awesome with contributed time and money. You're free to bring your own food & drink, and the picnic areas are nice. Parking is limited and costs $6. The bus drops you right at the west entrance (55th and Phinney) so take that or your bike if you can.

Very fun place for the family to walk around and visit. You can easily spend 2-3 hours here, but even 4 if you eat a lunch. Time flew by for us - it's a pretty large zoo and takes a long time to walk around and see it all. Parking is self service kiosk and cost us $13 for 3-4 hours. We parked in the south "hippo" lot. The wildlife (bear, gorillas, rhino, wolves, and more) were very active when we went on a Saturday morning.

The paper lanterns are amazing! We typically enjoy the zoo lights but this year's display was a step above! Very stunning and I highly recommend with gloves, warm socks and a hot tasty beverage. If you do get a warm beverage from concessions they have hot chocolate, hot apple cider and Irish cream hot chocolate for the adults.

Convenient parking, good paths through the park. Perfect for kids. The gorilla exhibit was the best -- baby gorillas playing with blankets, with mom and dad gorillas nearby. Would definitely recommend this zoo!
I have always been impressed by this zoo. It is ALWAYS very clean, inside the enclosures and out. The animals always seem to have as much space as possible, and lots of areas for personal enrichment such as toys, hides, and hidden treats. The zoo loop is fun, and a great walk with things to see along the way. I highly recommend Woodland Park Zoo. This year was the first year they did Zoolanterns: Wildlights, the holiday light show. It was so immaculately planned out, and sold out....I wish I could have gone more than once! Zoostaff was making sure everyone was safe, and they also had warming stations scattered through the zoo...cute little bonfires to stay warm. The zoo sold snacks and cute winter themed sweaters as well. As far as the lights...everything was better than I could have ever imagined! Literally, they were lantern style animatronics! The fact that they moved really made everything cooler. I hope they bring this back because it would be a shame to only see them once. They look like they took so much effort and it was a feast for the eyes.
We had a wonderful time, the paths were shader than I expected which was great. Beautiful animals, happier than they are in other zoos.
Nice place for kids and grown ups for learning about animals and getting closer to nature. There are so many shows organized to keep patrons entertained.

Our favorite local zoo, even in the rain!
Clean, map is a bit confusing at times, staff is friendly and passionate. Animals appeared comfortable and well cared for. Poor flamingos were suffering from the weather during our visit. Shaking in the rain and wind. Don't listen to the giraffes, they're judgemental

The zoo is always awesome! Pretty bummed a lot of stuff was closed due to covid...the reptiles and nocturnal exhibits are always a fun part of the trip. The dinosaur exhibit was really fun too!
Definitely not the place to go in the middle of winter. Very few animals are out. The penguins aren't accustomed to the snow and don't want to get out of the water. Very funny stuff. The night-time lantern visit might be cute but I didn't try it.
Wow! We had such an amazing time here! This is a conversation zoo zoo and it is absolutely stunning! Walking around the zoo is almost like walking through the woods it’s so beautiful. Definitely a great price for all the animals you get to see. Tip: you might want to eat before and bring snacks because there was not many food options outside of burgers and pretzels.
Wonderful visit at the zoo I love this place!!! Parking is a bit confusing and have to pay about $5-6 for it but well worth it! Tickets were only $25 I think. Definitely got our money worth for the unforgettable memories. My fave was the giraffes. My kiddos fave was the kangaroos. Friendly staff, easy to navigate. Masks still required indoors. Woodland Park zoo is the perfect place to take your friends, family, and (let's be honest) probably your enemies. This large zoo is full of eclectic animals ranging from a goat who loves being scratched behind the ears, to a tiger that likes to surprise guests. My family LOVES dinosaurs and we went at the perfect time for them. The baby gorilla was a fun surprise. And while the giftshop doesn't off a whole lot of children's clothing options, it made up for it by having a huge selection of fun knick knacks. Renting a wagon and scooter are super easy for anyone who may need one. I'm rating this a 4/5 because the park was wonderful! The food, was... lacking flavor in some parts. My family and I ordered pretzels but they were dry, tough, and the cheese had very little flavor. The macaroni my brother ordered was about the same. Pretty bland. The burgers were really good though. And my grandmother said the chicken strip where juicy. I will say, the app that they have to order the food was pretty great though. Made standing in line, nonexistent. Overall, we had a lot of fun and didn't even get to see it ALL after 9 or 10.hoirs we were there. Can't wait to go back!
Knowledgeable staff at different exhibits make this zoo one of the best. If you are visiting and they are available, don't miss a great opportunity. The animals, landscaping, and info graphics are wonderful as well. We went on a nice weekend morning and all the animals were active.

Oh my god, the woodland park zoo was so beautiful. We went in December and the weather was gorgeous and the landscaping was amazing. So many animals that I haven’t seen before and they were way more active than any other zoo I’ve been to. I could’ve easily spent all day there just admiring everything.
Great place to bring kids imagination to alive. The better time to go is early morning/afternoon when animals are more available for lookout. We went around 3 pm and most of them were unavailable.

The zoo now has more capacity, but most people keep a reasonable distance and many still wear masks. Loved seeing the animals! The baby gorilla alone is worth the trip. It is leaning to walk/crawl!❤️

It was well worth the drive across the state. The walkways are very clean and covered in tree shade. Beautiful place to spend the day walking plus you get to watch the animals.
We went to see Zoo Lanterns. What a beautiful array of animal lanterns. From birds to dinosaurs. They also had a fire pit, hot chocolate, pizza, burgers, beer, wine. It was a great experience. It seemed like it ended too fast. It looped around the whole main loop. It made you wonder where were the animals! If you get a chance to see these lanterns around Christmas time, go see them. Every chance I've gotten to go to the Woodland Park Zoo has been an enjoyable adventure. All the animals seem to have adequate space and habitats. Given this you'll likely only get to see about 2/3 of the animals, as they can be hiding or out of the viewing habitat for some reason or another, but with the size of the zoo there is plenty more to see. The last time I went in November 2020, they were handling the covid restrictions well. The occupancy of the zoo was limited and staff were monitoring how many people were in any of the more closed off areas. Unfortunately most of the indoors areas were not open to viewing, but there were many more opportunities to spent time looking at the animals with a much smaller crowd around.

Unfortunately I live 2 hrs away and the date we were suppose to go was Jan 8 I had car issues I was hoping to have fixed so we could make it but that was not the case. I contacted the zoo to see if they can just switch the date of the tickets or refund and they said you can't the only way is you have to buy new tickets which is insane and unfortunately I cant even afford to the supervisor Alonso reached out to me personally was willing to change the date it was worth every penny

We all had an awesome time at the Lantern light show my daughter went crazy next year make it bigger and better!!
Medium sized zoo. I appreciate that it's very immersed in surrounding nature making it a plesent day out in nature and most enclosures seem very seamless between different animals and visitors. Entrances are not very well indicated.
Outside exhibits are open but since it's winter most animals are inside. Inside animal areas, which have high ceilings and glass separations, are closed now nearly 2 years due to covid...? But, good news spenders! The zoo's stores, also inside, are OPEN to collect your money because your kids didn't get to see many animals and are freezing so you can buy them overpriced toys to make up for the disappointing experience.
Absolutely wonderful experience! The habitats are well planned & wide open, leaving the animals to roam freely about in their individual habitats. Can't wait to go back!

I attended the WildLanterns event last night at the Woodland Park Zoo. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! It's beautiful and magical. Well worth the cost. Would definitely do again. There's something to see everywhere you look. My cell phone camera couldn't catch the full saturation of colors.
Got an early reservation time which was great because there was parking. You have to have an app to pay for parking. They did a great job having people 6 feet apart. A lot of families did not respect the social distancing and at the exhibits would let their children run in front of other families or not have their masks on. It seems a few parents didn't care and let their kids treat the zoo as a playground. Downside to going early means some of the animals are still asleep. For what we paid, it was worth it.

Got my adult son to go check out the Lanterns on a very chilly Sunday night for the Holidays.Very impressed with the display, but we kept wondering how they store all those steel wire frames. And the labor to apply the materials and paint to each lantern you understand why it's not a cheap ticket. Happy to pay and have such a great science and cultural amenity in Seattle. Thank you!!

Very cool, lots of exhibits even tho many indoor things were closed. Definitely top tier. The wallabys and emu were hilarious, and the penguins liked showing off.

This is a pleasant zoo although, it was a little pricey. I paid $12.28 to park "3-4 hours" then paid @$100 for five people of mixed ages to enter. At this rate, you should plan to pack a lunch and to spend at least 4 hours there to make the experience worth the spend. Most attractions were open (not the rhino petting ????) and the park was really busy around 11a-2p. Coming after these hours will make for an easier parking experience. They also should ban smoking at the zoo and enforce it. I saw a few ppl smoking during today's visit, and with all of the kids there, it's no place for smoking.

Big zoo. We came right after seattle started opening up. Bring comfortable shoes as lot of walking. They had a dinosaur exhibit but it is extra/on top entrance fee.

Really nice natural feeling zoo, went on a Monday and crowd was minimal. Some attractions closed due to the pandemic but still a pleasant experience.
Beautiful exhibits, very well created and maintained. City Pass takes a few bucks off the entrance price, making it the best out-of-pocket option if you choose to do all the listed City Pass activities. Mornings on overcast days are great - not crowded & animals are out and about.

Finding something to do while social distancing is difficult. The Woodland Park Zoo seems to be doing everything right to make a trip to the zoo as safe as possible. They are opened at 25% capacity, they have one way walking paths, all indoor exhibits and events are closed, and masks are required. They have outdoor eating spaces that are tented. My son and I had a great time walking around and looking at the animals and the lanterns. The employees were all very nice and helpful! Everything was very reasonably priced. I look forward to going back again soon!
We enjoyed all the open exhibits. The best animals were taking a nap during the day. We still enjoyed the habitats the animals live in. More exhibits will be opening up soon. The wolves were great to see from the distance.
I still need to go to the zoo during normal hours BUT I just went to the Wild Lanterns event last night and it was amazing. Definitely a must-see/must-go during the Holidays in Seattle. Bring your family or make it a date! You’ll spend about an hour to an hour and a half walking around. So it is money well spent, trust me! The artwork and lights are spectacular.

I mean... Wow! We had so much fun you can really get pretty close to many of the animals. There was a point we could see zebra, rhino, giraffe and antelope in the same area.

The zoo had plenty of exhibits closed but the ones open (white wolf, penguins, snow leopard etc) were worth it. What's more worth it in the winter is the Wild Lanterns show, it was OUT OF THIS WORLD! There was a lot of crowd to enjoy it too!
