Here you have the feddbacks of people who are using the products and services of Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary (Zoo) in the area of Banff (Canada).
Now the business gets a score of 4.9 stars out of 5 and that score has been based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that the average of ratings is almost the top, and it's founded on a very large number of reviews, so we may think that the assessment is quite credible. If many people have bothered to rate when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to give evaluations when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Zoo is classified in the category of Tourist attraction.

10/10!!! HIGHLYYYYY RECOMMEND. If you’re ever in Calgary, do yourself a favor and visit the sanctuary. We did the interactive tour which allowed us to sit in an enclosure with the wolfdogs. Found the to be extremely informative and our tour guide Scott (I’m sorry if that wasn’t your name) was great. I learned so much in the short hour about wolves and of course being able to feed these beautiful animals treats made it all the better.
Such a nice place with very passionate people! We went for the interactive tour and I would definitely recommend this one if it's your first time. Very informative and seeing the wolfdogs this close was an incredible experience. Loved every minute!
We went here for the interactive tour and it was such a great experience! You get to see the Wolfdogs up close and feed them treats while learning about them and the sanctuary. There are other options of tours or just walking around the area. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and do amazing work helping these animals. An amazing place!
Yamnuska did not disappoint! I’d planned this as a stop on the way home from my first ‘vacation’ in over a year, and ‘splurged’ for the Interactive Tour. The weather was hot (28º +) and the animals were making the best of it (lazing in the shade as much as possible), so there maybe wasn’t as much activity as sometimes. That being said, our guide, Jason, more than made up for it and was both entertaining and informative. I looked down at my watch at one point and couldn’t believe how much time had already passed - 30 minutes had felt like 5, I was so engaged. Thanks for the awesome experience - will definitely recommend to people looking for things to do in the area!
Weekday
Calm walk with wolfdogs. We came between the guided tour times, and it was a relaxing tour of beautiful wolfdogs. Knowing that getting a Canadian made hoodie from the gift shop pays to feed 6 wolfdogs for the day is guilt free too.
Great opportunity to observe Wolfdogs and interact with them. It also contributes with an amazing team rescuing them from difficult situations.
The tour was very informative as well as interactive. I love how fun and exciting the tour guide was. I highly recommend this place and they are doing such an amazing job taking care of the wolfdogs.
What an awesome place. I would absolutely recommend going to experience what the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary has to offer. The staff was all very knowledgeable, energetic and helpful. My partner and I did the interactive tour and then stayed for day activities and spent 2 and a half hours there total. The property is beautiful and the wolfdogs are a sight to behold. Thank you Joel for guiding our interactive tour and thank you to all of the staff for keeping these amazing creatures safe!
All the staff members are extremely knowledgeable, well trained and friendly. The wolfdogs are all well taken care of too. A wonderful place! Beautiful animals, id love to come back and spend a whole day here!
Amazing experience. Definitely recommend the Interactive Tour. Extremely informative and to be able to sit within the enclosure was worth it. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Grounds are well taken care of. A 5 Star Sanctuary
I’ve wanted to visit the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary for a number of years now, and now that I’ve finally had an opportunity to visit, I regret not going sooner. It was very affordable, and one of the best things is that the sanctuary is a not-for-profit and all proceeds go towards conservation. All the staff members are extremely knowledgeable and kind. They were able to answer all of our questions and really educated us on wolves and wolf dogs. I would highly recommend visiting Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary to friends and family. These animals are beautiful, and worth seeing in person given the opportunity!
I've been coming to Yamnuska since 2015, and it has been a fantastic experience every time. I've done the interactive tour several times, and I always learn something new. You get the chance to sit in two different enclosures with the high content and the low and mid content wolfdogs, and you get to give them treats! There are also many enclosures with other wolfdogs that you can view without doing the tour. My favourites include Rango the coy-dog, the Engadine pack, the handsome but shy Horton, and TK (who is pictured below). Skookum, the handsome greeter, is also a Very Good Boy and does a very good job. The guides have always been knowledgeable and eager to answer questions and are particularly informative when it comes to why wolfdogs really aren't great house pets. I'm grateful for what I've learned through them and for the chance to visit these cuties up close. These dogs are well-loved and their wolfy needs are respected. I'd recommend anyone to go and attend the interactive tour to learn more about these beautiful, beautiful creatures.
Absolutely amazing experience. I would highly recommend the interactive tour. Meeting Nova was quite unique. skookum was also a very friendly dog host and the staff were knowledgeable and kind.
Great experience! Really cool attraction outside of Calgary, framed by the Canadian Rockies. The wolfdogs are like a paradox, cute and terrifying ????The tour guides are incredible, it was freezing and windy but they did their thing???????? Sharing fascinating facts while their furry counterparts anticipated tasty treats. There was even a fireside to warm up outside! I’d recommend this one!
A must do for animal lovers. Did the self guided tour option and I wish I did the guided to learn more about each wolfdog! We got to see one activity and it was the highlight of our visit, seeing these guys in action is an unforgettable experience.
Informative, entertaining, and exciting for wolf lovers of all ages! Clean grounds, wide pathways with mature trees that make a great walking path in both rain or sun, many wolfdogs to see and picture-takjng opportunities. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff, and reasonably priced merch! If you are thinking about getting a wolfdog, go visit these guys and get some insight and advice from real, first-hand, experienced people who spend their lives alongside wolfdogs. DO NOT jump into ownership. Visit Yamnuska, enjoy the variety of personalities of their permanent resident high content wolfdogs and learn something from this awesome experience! 10/10 recommend the interactive tour
Around 45 minutes drive from Calgary. Watching these friendly animals in close proximity is a great experience. They come close, lick hands, and display their tricks for treats.
Informative tours and a great organization for these amazing animals. The staff are great and all seem to have a passion for the place they all work in. We took the tour where you sit with the Wolfdog's and interact with them. The sanctuary makes money off these tours and it goes to a great cause. Go check it out and you won't be disappointed. We went towards the end of March, just around the time when the snow melts. Wear boots and clothes you don't mind getting dirty, as it is all outdoors. Amazing place, keep it up!
Zues is the most incredible animal I have ever seen in person. So much incredible information about these gorgeous creatures that you get to feed! The experience alone is worth it but also they rely on guests to help support them so go if you can buy a sweater help support these amazing people doing something beautiful. DO THE GUIDED TOUR! The knowledge they share is so interesting I want to go again with questions I thought of after the tour. A must see for anyone!
What an excellent interactive experience with the wolf dogs! Very informative and very friendly staff. The interactive experience is the way to go when you visit here. Highly recommend and we will be going here again in the winter. Thank you to everyone at the Yamnuska Wolf Sanctuary for a wonderful time! ????
Amazing experience! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. We did the "Intro Tour" and it was amazing! A bit pricey at $35 per person but the funds help the sanctuary take care of the dogs so it was well worth it. For the "Intro Tour" we got 30 min of information from a staff member and the opportunity to take amazing pictures by getting access inside one of the enclosures (behind a shorter glass border of course) and getting to see the staff feed the whole - in addition to full access to the sanctuary pathways (which is $25 on it's own). There is also a fire pit to keep warm, outdoor washrooms, and a small gift shop (stickers $5, bottles $20, earrings $15, paintings $35..and more) which had three large dogs roaming inside of it (including a humongous Alaskan malamute!). In addition to wolfdogs, there are some coyotes and lots of goats to see! There are apparently also chickens and pigs but I didn't get to see them today. We ended the day by **howling** as a group to get the wolfdogs to howl - which actually works and it a beautiful sound, as well as making for a very entertaining video! Overall I am very pleased with the experience and would highly recommend this place! They are doing a great things by taking care of these animals so well :)
Such an incredible experience. Our group walked around before our scheduled tour to check out all the different paddocks. Got great views of all the Wolfdogs that were out and about. Thamar (sorry if I butchered the name) was a very gregarious and knowledgeable tour guide. She really added to the experience. Completely recommend the fully interactive tour.
What a fantastic experience, we did the interactive tour and it was brilliant. The animals and their enclosures are clearly very well looked after. The lady that gave us the tour was very knowledgeable, friendly and answered everyone's questions. Highly recommended
Had a great time here. They do a great job of informing you about the wolfdogs. Very cool expierience. Can't get better than saving them from less than great lives! Very cool being able to pet a wolf and having them eat from your hand. I will be back to support the great work they are doing!

Did a self-guided tour on August 26th and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a peaceful place to visit with scheduled demonstrations to learn more about the wolfdogs. Getting to hear all the wolves howling was an absolute treat. They have a really good gift shop with a variety of pricing for every pocket. Will definitely visit again and treat ourselves to the Interactive Tour.
I booked the interactive tour for my boyfriend and my parents. We had such an amazing time meeting the wolf dogs and learned so much. Our guide Robyn was super informative and very funny. I would definitely recommend the interactive tour to anyone!
This is an amazing place with friendly staff. And the the animals are gorgeous. Also side note you can learn alot about the difference between a wolf dog and just a dog someone is trying to sell you saying it s a wolf.
Was an awesome time! The tour guides are very friendly. Ended up being late and they still allowed us in. The wolves are gorgeous! We got to feed a few and pet some
The interactive tour exceeded all expectations. The love and respect our guide felt for these amazing animals was infectious. Having a wolf dog take food from my hand was an amazing and humbling experience I will never forget. I would recommend visiting the Sanctuary to everyone! I will definitely return
The person behind this project made a difference for these wolfdogs! Make me think there is still hope for humanity. I definitely recommend this sanctuary to understand better what these wolf dogs are going through. The wolf dogs are lovely and adorable. And the fee you paid is like doing a charity for the wolf dogs.
This facility was amazing. It was great to be able to interact with the wolfdogs. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The layout of the sanctuary allowed us to see all of the wolfdogs. Great work being done here.
Cant even explain how amazing this experience was. The staff were so kind and knowledgeable. The wolf dogs were so beautiful and friendly to meet. Gift shop is a must if you want to support this non profit place.
Cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. It's the only wolfdog sanctuary in Canada and you can feel good about buying items in their gift shop since it all goes to support the rescue. There's 3 levels of involvement from just walking around the enclosures to watching an interaction to actually entering an enclosure and feeding and petting the wolfdogs. I plan to go back in the winter when they're all fluffy. You should be aware that there are strict behaviour rules including not wearing ANY animal products, including leather. So take a look at the website before visiting. And the interactive tours are usually booked a few weeks in advance.
Wolfdogs howling was just fantastic to see and hear in person. They are beautiful animals. Really nicer facilities.
A place where we all should go. The main meaning of the non profit organization is to educate people about wolfdogs and their differences within dogs. It's a great place to go and learn the damage we can make to animals. I think is should be in the top 10 of Calgary musts do.
I took my boyfriend on the interactive tour as a surprise birthday trip and it was better than we could have expected. It's obvious that the staff care and are genuinely enthusiastic about the work they do. It was so cool to meet the wolfdogs we did and the sanctuary spaces set up were awesome. We got to see every wolfdog and many were playing, making them really fun to watch. Not to mention, we got to buy matching lightening wolf shirts. Would definitely go again.
Every single member of the staff was phenomenal. From the front desk to the interactive tour guide to the amazing gentleman maintaining the grounds, we were met with nothing but smiles and gratitude for coming to the sanctuary. We felt so welcome, so appreciated, and on top of that we were able to see and spend time with wolfdogs?! I mean what more can you ask for for.

Amazing experience! Staff were very friendly and informative. Our guide for the interactive tour was excellent - very knowledgeable and you could see her love of the wolfdogs. I highly recommend this experience and if you can make if for the morning howl it will blow your mind!!
This was such a great experience! If you're looking for a unique and educational experience, you'll find that here. This isn't a zoo so don't expect that, it is a sanctuary. Everyone working here was so nice and full of information about wolves and wolfdogs! We are thankful to have been able to experience getting up close and personal with some of these amazing animals!
Not sure
Awesome wolfdog sanctuary, really enjoyed. I recommend bringing your family, lots of fun ????✌
Weekend
This was my 4th time visiting the Sanctuary, and it never fails to bring absolute joy! The staff is knowledgeable, helpful. This was my first winter visit and although it was really cold, it was nice to be able to see through the woods to watch the animals in the distance, as well as the ones up close. The "group howl" was so amazing, it brought tears to my eyes. I will go back as many times as I am able. I'm fortunate to live less than an hour away!
Awesome experience! Highly recommend the tour! Our guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. You can tell people who work here have their heart in it! Thank you.
Came here on a tour in the early winter and was not disappointed. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and more than happy to answer any questions. The grounds are nice, and the dogs are clearly given ample space and comfort. It was a fantastic experience that thought me a lot about the wolf dogs while also giving me the chance to see them up close and even interact with them. Worth every penny, especially to support them in providing homes for them.
Easy to get to , not very far off the 1a Hwy and lots of parking. The property, the animals and the buildings look well cared for. My family and I are supporters of maintaining wild wolf population in Canada and its nice to see this work going on.
10–30 min
What a fantastic experience. Highly recommend visiting the sanctuary. The info tour was very interesting and informative..thank you Jason. The animals are so well taken care of…very impressive! There is so much to be learned about these beautiful animals. A must see for sure!!
We did not get a chance to take the tour. We walked around. Great experience. If you take the interactive tour, you will get chance to feed them. Animals behave differently with small kids. So please check age restrictions if you are really interested in taking a tour.
You can tell the employees are passionate about what they do and they make each of their customers live a unique experience. A special thank you to the guy behind the counter, whom I unfortunately didn’t catch the name.
Absolutely amazing, certainly a hidden Alberta gem. We participated in an interactive tour where Angie shared her stories and knowledge of working with the wolfdogs. It was great, we got to feed them treats. Nova performed tricks. Loki welcomed us into the enclosure, eventually shaking my hand. 100% recommend, a must experience for canine lovers!

I can't say enough about this place! We went because by chance I say it on cool things to do around Calgary. Such an amazing experience and we learned so much. As a dog lover I was just amazed at the hard work this place has put into providing a safe environment for these animals. I highly recommend doing the private viewing so you can get right up close and see how truly amazing these dogs are!
We went on the intro tour because the interactive tour was all booked, make sure you book that early! But this tour was very awesome as well, Derek was our tour guide, and told us a whole lot about Wolfdogs that we did not know. It was very informative, and we got up close to the wolfdogs, but we did not pet or feed them like we saw on the interactive tour. The various activities are cool throughout the facility, and all of the staff are very knowledgeable. We would highly recommend as this is a non profit and your money is spent well building these awesome animals a great habitat!
Amazing experience, such majestic creatures with the most beautiful sanctuary. Brilliant tour guides with an outstanding knowledge of not only the wolfdogs they care for but also the care and understanding of domestically bred 'wolf' dogs sold by sellers and the invaluable information passed onto us.

My partner and I had an incredible experience at the sanctuary! We did the the Interactive Tour, which was really fun. We learned a lot from our guide and we were able to feed the Wolfdogs. We would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in knowing more about these animals.
Wow, was that fun. In a group of 8 we got to sit with, feed snacks to, and listen to a knowledgeable guide explain about a group of six or so, high percentage wolves, like 50 to 90 percent. Then we visited a second pac and then toured the site and experienced more wolves. Exciting! Must bring your camera. Captured the whole pac howling...magic!

Super friendly staff! The wolfdogs looked well taken care of, and it was a nice walk. Definitely will be going back. Oh, and goats also live there, so cute!!!
This was hands down a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly, knowledgable and interactive. The Wolfdogs were amazing to watch and to interact with. I would give more stars if I was allowed, this is a must visit place for everyone of all ages.
It was very interesting to learn all about the wolves they've rescued. Very cool experience.
Amazing place for dog/wolf/animal lovers! When I went, they had 35 wolfdogs! The interactive tour (for those ages 15+) was amazing. You got to feed a few of the most trusting wolfdogs by hand, and more yet from a distance. Those under 15 are free to wander the grounds and catch glimpses of the beautiful animals under their care. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and even more friendly and welcoming. Overall a wonderful experience!

Super cool place. We did the interactive tour and it was a great time giving treats to the wolf dogs. Definitely sometging to check out. The guide was super informative and we got to see and learn a lot about wolf dogs. It's close to Cochrane too so not far to travel from Calgary.
Three of us photographers joined the 10:30 Interactive tour Oct.30 with Scott as the guide. Outstanding experience and education about wolfdogs! Scott told real life stories to get the message across. He also answered a range of questions on the tour and whenever we met him working elsewhere. The sanctuary does everything first class from its website to real people to respond to you everywhere on site. This was the second day the new visitor centre and gift shop was open and we were surprised by this classy start to our tour. We highly recommend a visit and perhaps a commitment to support this worthwhile cause.
Everything was perfect, passionate guide and vert instructive! MUST DO
Yamnuska was a highlight of my whole trip to Alberta! You need to do the interactive tour because it allows you to get up close to the wolf dogs! There are a few of them who will even eat out of your hand! The guides were super informative and it was close seeing these beautiful creatures right in front of me. The spots fill up quickly so make this the first thing you reserve for your trip to Banff area. We were able to get in multiple enclosures on the tour, and it was incredible watching the wolf dogs eat and interact with each other. You need to visit!!! Just check out my pictures for further proof.
I visited the sanctuary on July 9th, 2018 on my way back from Lake Louise and Banff. I went by myself and pre-booked for an interactive tour. Luckily there was ONE spot left for the last tour of the day. I wish I remembered the name of our guide. She was a superstar!!! So comfortable in delivering the information she was giving us about Wolfdogs, how they come to be, the difficulties of trying to own them like a pet, their diets, their behaviours and the differences between the high content wolfdogs. She answered questions with confidence and great knowledge! It was really neat to see how the wolfdogs have built a more trusting relationship with her and the other staff. Instructions given on how we would be interacting in-person with the wolfdogs was very clear and concise. I felt very relaxed (and excited!) to meet them! We were seated on chairs, instructed not to call out to them or reach out at them. With a handful of treats, the wolfdogs would approach and gobble them out of our hands long enough for us to snap a picture and move on to the next one! It's important to read the rules posted on the website for the interactive tour before visiting. No dangling clothing or loose articles, no kids under 12, etc. The tour took almost an hour and then we were free to wander around the sanctuary and check out the other wolfdogs and read the informative plaques posted around. I was definitely moved by the story of the sanctuary and am excited for my business to sponsor a wolfdog (for a very low price!) so Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary can continue the amazing work they do for these misunderstood and too often exploited animals. Thanks for all you do! Say hi to Rango the Coydog for me! I love him!

Absolutely worth every penny! The interactive tour is very educational and you get to feed the wolfdogs and even pet the low content ones! The animals are stunning, and kept in very good conditions; this place like no other shows the wolf side of the wolfdogs and how amazingly wild they are. Please support the sanctuary!
Worth visiting Canada's only wolf-dog sanctuary! Yamnuska Sanctuary, located in Cochrane, AB (just 45 min outside of Calgary), provides these beautiful animals with a safe and comfortable living space. Staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell how much they love the dogs. They are treated well and have limited interactions with humans (which is ideal for wolves). We did the intro tour which allowed us to enter one of the pens and see the animals up-close as well as have a personal guide. Very, very cool. A little pricey, but it was nice knowing the money is going directly back into the sanctuary. We also got to see a feeding which was awesome! So happy that these once neglected wolf-dogs now have a great place to live! Will be back again and recommended to friends and family.
It was a perfect experience! We booked the interactive tour and actually got lucky that there were 2 spots left. We were suppose to book in advance and didn't do so, I would say it was meant to be. Very knowledgeable, friendly and approachable staff. The wolves seem content and well for sure. Made me happy :)
I'm not sure how I ever stumbled on their Instagram account, but I am so glad I did. It was my main attraction during our family vacation and loved up to my expectations! Everyone is so knowledgeable and welcoming. We went on the Interactive Tour, definitely recommend it! Five+ stars!
Very informative. I had a great time. There were even extra activities happening because of Valentines Day.
So enlightening. Such beautiful animals. So glad I found out about this place and very pleased I was able to attend. Wonderful place. Both the care givers snd the animals are very happy.
My friend and I went for our 2nd time and it was great! The interactive tour is very informative and amazing to be so close to the wolfdogs! Every penny goes toward the sanctuary and care of the wolfdogs. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to meet Mawko at 3pm because they were running a bit behind and we had to get to our meeting spot but all in all, a great experience!
Went for the interactive tour. Booking was super easy and smooth. Staff are very personable and extremely knowledgeable. The tour was very enjoyable and informative and the sanctuary is a beautiful place to just wander around and enjoy. Already talking about going back for another self guided walk when the weather is cooler and the animals are likely to be more active and not hiding back in the shade of the trees. Highly recommend.
The staff are amazing and informative. The wolf dogs are so beautiful ! Well worth the money as all fees go to support the rescue Loved our visit and highly recommend the interactive tour
The facility is top notch and the wolfdogs are beautiful! We did the guided tour and got up close to the critters. The host was very knowledgeable and we came out having learned a bunch about wolf and wolfdog behaviour. These people giving one star reviews are out of touch. The age and refund policy is there, sucks they can't read. Also, these are wild animals, they're not going to cuddle you like your abomination of a doodle will. Manage your expectations.

Such a cool experience, especially getting to feed them! If your a dog or animal lover, this is a must. We went on a very cold day, we dressed warm but still got cold because you sit around a lot until the end, when you get to walk around the park outside the fenced in areas with Wolfdogs inside.
The interactive tour is an amazing experience that everyone needs to try. The staff are fantastic, the facility is incredible and the wolfdogs are all very unique and exceptional. So glad we finally took the time to visit the sanctuary!
Very cool place to visit & it's a very worthy cause protecting and caring for the wolf dogs. Had a great experience sitting among the wolf dogs, hand feeding them while learning about them from our tour guide.

I took my fiance here as a surprise and we loved it! We had an amazing time! Our tour guide (who's name escapes me, I apologize!) Was so awesome!! She was very informative and I could tell she had such a love and passion for these animals! We will definitely be back again and will be recommending this as THE place to visit!!! All adorable of course, but Zeus and Nova were our personal favourites:) ❤
A MAGICAL experience. I absolutely love it here! I actually fell in love with the entire experience. I was lucky enough to take part in the interactive tour, and see the beautiful wolf dogs up close. It was so informative, and our guide I could tell had her entire heart in it! I loved it, and am for sure getting a season’s pass to go regularly. The energy there is also phenomenal, and I can’t even begin to say enough about the amazing and caring staff. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience! We went with our 7 years old son and 6 year old daughter on her 6th birthday. They loved it. We got to see the 2:15 and 3:15 enrichments. Highlight was petting Mawko and starting the howl. The staff were all super friendly. High recommend checking this place out to help out these wolf dogs!
A great place to learn about the majestic animals! The tour guide was wonderful
We joined the Interactive Tour and thorough enjoyed the experience. Learning more about these wonderful animals whilst being able to engage with them in a non threatening way was magical. The Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary is beautifully created haven that balances human education and care of the Wolfdogs really well.
It was amazing to see the dogs. We visited in winter and the sanctuary is just the right size for a winter walk. The panels and reading info along the paths made the visit a learning experience.
Great event with very knowledgeable staff. We went on a sunny day and was a great way to spend the afternoon. Highly recommended.
Beautiful space, they do wonderful rescue work creating a safe space for these lovely creatures. Staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Thank you for all your hard work, we had a great experience! Definitely will be back!
Had a wonderful time visiting with these beautiful animals. Learned some new interesting facts about them and grew our appreciation for them and the people who care for them. Definitely encourage you to take the interactive tour and get up and close to these wolfdogs. Tye staff is awesome, answering any question you have and giving you a deeper insight to the wolf and wolf dog. A must go to destination!!!!
Very informative intro tour, and staff are able to answer lots of questions. The wolfdogs are gorgeous and it's nice to support an animal rescue effort like this one! Gift store has good merch as well
This is a great place to visit and learn more about these beautiful animals.

What an amazing experience! The whole experience was perfect right from the beginning. Seeing the goats as soon as you come, and the staff being so helpful and wonderful. I booked our tour for the wrong the day and the staff was MORE then accommodating. Thank you again for that. And the intro-tour was AMAZING! I cannot thank the staff enough for what they do. We will DEFINITELY go back again.
Very informative staff and well maintained sanctuary. Highly recommend
This place has a great cause and its great to see the animals. All animals seem well cared for and happy. We only gave 3 stars because it didn't seem very interactive and was a little pricey. The price was acceptable because that is how they keep operating. They are not government funded at all. It was a decent informative option.
My girlfriend and I booked an Interactive Tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide, Angie, was super knowledgeable and friendly. In fact, all staff we met and encountered were awesome. The Interactive Tour was well worth the money as we learned so much and got to get up close and personal with some of the wolfdogs. We both highly recommend making the drive out and supporting this wonderful Sanctuary. Thank you for a memorable experience!
This is a great experience/ session, learnt a lot about wolf dogs, our tour guide alex is friendly and knowledgeable. The sanctuary doesn’t get funding from government, participating in these tours help them a lot. Please visit, it’s a great tour. Wear warm.
This was our favorite place we visited in the Calgary/ Banff area. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. You will definitely learn something during your visit. I highly recommend booking the interactive tour in advance, you get to feed and interact with the wolfdogs who are very sweet and a bit shy.
This was such a great experience. Our guide was so knowledgable and provided a lot of insight into wolf-dog behaviour. The wolf-dogs themselves were very beautiful and obviously were quite comfortable with our guide. It was lovely to see the care that went into taking care of these animals.
The interactive tour was awesome, our group learned a lot and it was amazing to see these beautiful creatures up close. They are well taken care of and have plenty of space to feel comfortable. I would highly recommend this experience.
Do the interactive tour at least once in your lifetime. We will be back and Oh we also met the resident Pyrenees :)
We came across this place online and decided to stop by on our way to Banff. It is safe to say that this was the highlight of our trip!! We did the interactive tours and felt so incredibly safe and respected the entire time. The tour guide was incredibly educated and gave us so much information and knowledge about these animals and how to interact with them in a way that is safe and comfortable for both us, and the animals. This is such an incredible place that does meaningful and important work in protecting these animals and providing them with good lives. I forget our tour guides name but she was absolutely amazing, and as I said, so educated on these animals. It's amazing to see people so passionate about these animals working here to help them. I would definitely recommend this experience to everyone.
Had a fantastic experience at Yamnuska Sanctuary yesterday afternoon!! The sanctuary is large and very well kept and there’s a beautiful drive in! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. And the dogs are incredible! Some come up and take treats out of your hands! If you’re visiting in the winter dress super warm and wear good shoes!

This was one of the most educational and heartfelt experiences I have ever been to. For those who are animal lovers, or even cat people, I promise you will still fall in love. Each Wolf Dog has a story that will leave you talking about it even after you leave. You can definitely feel the passion and knowledge that all staff members have for these animals and the sanctuary is beyond beautiful. Definitely a 5+star experience that you should not miss out on! Remember to donate <3
It was a nice stop going back from the mountains. The place is very well maintained and we had a chance to see a few animals. We had 'self-served' tour and read a lot of small plates with 'fun-facts' about the residents as well as about wolves in general. On a 'negative side', it felt like the place is a bit overpriced, provided that for one more dollar one can go and see Calgary zoo (which is not the worst place to see in the Province by the way). So, at the moment I'm not sure when we will be back next time...
Great experience! Very informative and fun. The interactive tour was worth every penny. Happy these animals have somewhere safe to be and it's clear they are well taken care of. I'll be going back again for sure.
Yes
This place is awesome! The animals are well taken care of and amazing to see. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the wolf dogs.
Signed up for the interactive tour and had a blast. Our guide was very knowledgeable and tried very hard to gather the wolfdogs to come meet us. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend everyone to go! It's amazing what these people do to help take care of the wolfdogs. Good job, keep it up!
A really lovely sanctuary, well worth a visit. The dogs are absolutely gorgeous and the tours are so educational.
One of the highlights of our Alberta trip was visiting Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. So glad we caught an educational session, and had plenty of time to wander and read all of the educational signs and photograph the wolf dogs. Will definitely recommend this to everyone we know heading that way!
We had a great time at the Wolfdog Sanctuary. The staff is knowledgeable and answered all questions! We enjoyed learning about the packs and how the sanctuary began!
My boyfriend and I visited the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary on NYE and it was an amazing experience. We did the interactive tour which was worth every penny. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, giving us a history of the sanctuary and introducing every Wolfdog in the enclosure to us. The interactive tour lets you get close to the Wolfdogs and feed them as well. We were also fortunate to witness a group howl. We highly recommend this tour!
We had such a great time at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary! All of the staff we interacted with were kind and friendly; special shout-out to our host, Thamar, who went above and beyond to make sure our group had fun and taught us so much about the wolfdogs. The wolfdogs and other farm animals all look like they are well-cared for and the environment itself was peaceful and inviting (plus a beautiful view of the mountains!). The interactive tour is worth the price as we got to actually feed the wolfdogs treats and learn about them with our tour host. I will definitely recommend this attraction to my friends and family!
An incredible facility. We did the encounter session which lasted 1 hour. We got up close and personal as a very knowledgeable staff member educated us on these highly intelligent animals. The sanctuary is doing a lot of good to preserve the life of these magnificent animals, whilst also advocating against their breeding and the desire to purchase them as pets. Well worth a visit and a fabulous initiative to support.
My girlfriend and I have gone twice now in the last two years to this place to do the interactive tours and it never dissapoints. We had Alex and Jason as tour guides and you never got bored with all their talking as everything they talked about was cool facts about the wolves and even the personality traits that they have and its super cool to feed and pet the wolves. All the staff are friendly and you can tell they like their jobs, the shops got cool stuff to we always get a couple things to help support the sanctuary.
Absolutely fantastic One on One Experience, not to be missed an awesome afternoon.????????????????????
Lovely place to visit, the wolves are beautiful and mesmerizing. I could stay with them all day. Loved to take the interactive tour , get close with them and feed them. Was very interesting to learn about them and I hope everyone visits and donates.

What an awesome experience. Yamnuska does amazing work with these beautiful animals that would otherwise face an uncertain, but almost certainly, grim, future. The wolfdogs are beautiful and the privilege of being right there with them (on the Interactive Tour) was very special. We learned so much from the tour leader, who was kind, knowledgeable, patient with our questions and, obviously, amazing with the animals. The facility is clean, organized, well-run; the tour is structured, in my opinion very safe. The site is amazing with breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains. The signage, gift shop, washrooms, parking area, etc., are neat and tidy. The wolfdogs gave us a tremendous collective howl at the beginning of our tour. Great experience and will visit them often.
Second visit to the Sanctuary and just as amazing as the first! The wolf dogs are well taken care of and the tour guides really care about their well-being. I highly recommend the interactive tour!
Such an amazing experience! And the staff are very knowledgeable. Its non for profit and all proceeds go to the sanctuary to help with the costs to Care for them. Also some low % wolf dogs are available for adoption to good homes too!
Never even heard of this place 3 weeks prior to going. I was looking for interesting things to do with 13 year old grand-daughter. If you're interested in wolves, this is an informative place to visit, especially on the way to Canmore from Calgary. There are 3 levels of interactivity (and price) and for our first visit I chose the sanctuary walk. You just wander the grounds without a guide and explore at your own pace. You don't get a guide and don't get to be in the enclosures. Read the enrichment activities before you go to see if anything looks fun, so that you can time your stay in time for those activities. If we had stayed another hour, we could have howled with the wolf-dogs. Maybe next time. We had close encounters (through a fence) with a few of the residents. I'd definitely go back.
Tour guide Alyx was amazing. Her passion for the wolf dogs was amazing! Thank you!
Absolutely top notch facility. Fabulous photo opportunities and very knowledgeable and friendly staff. If you can, book an interactive tour and experience the wolfdogs up close and personal. A really thrilling and heart warming adventure. If you're lucky you will hear a wolf howl!!!
Absolutely amazing establishment. We did the interactive tour and it was worth every penny. You were able to interact with the wolf dogs (as long as they came to you first) and the guide was extremely knowledgeable and amazing to listen to. She is very passionate about her job and that makes all the difference when on a tour. I will definitely be doing this again
We loved our interactive tour with Alex! So informative and great to get up close and personal. Highly recommend!
Great experience! Guides are very knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. Highly recommend the interactive tour as you will have an up close experience with the wolf dogs. All proceeds go toward the care of the animals and the needs of the sanctuary.
I wish there were more places like this sanctuary, they really care for the animals above all things, especially because they are a non-profit and rely solely on contributions made by visitors. It’s hard to describe how beautiful this place is, until you have seen it for yourself.
Absolutely amazing experience. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. You could tell the dogs were very well cared for. Great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about wolf dogs, or just seen them. They’re beautiful creatures.
Only been here once but the interactive tour seems to be the only worth while reason to visit. The ability to learn and witness the wolf dogs up close and personal is amazing. Definitely the way to go for photography orientated visits.Only thing to consider is, like the zoo these are (tamed) wild animals and on a bad day they might just go hide and sleep. If you are thinking of going out and taking photos, definitely pick the interactive tour.
I cannot wait to come back! This place is amazing and such an incredible experience! I got the interactive tour as a gift from my girlfriend and we had an incredible time learning about the different wolfdogs and even got to spend some time with Mawko who was awesome that we were able to pet her and get some pictures with! The interactive tour where we got to sit and be in an enclosure with the high content wolfdogs was great to see how they interact with one of the guides/trainers and be able to give them some treats but any tour that you choose is totally worth it however the interactive tour that we did was definitely worth it and I will be coming back with other friends and family to share this amazing experience with them too
A lot of fun! A very unique experience to see these beautiful animals. Highly recommend doing the interactive tour.
We did the interactive tour in mid October, and it was such an awesome experience! The staff did a great job of educating the group about the wolfdogs and common misconceptions about the breed. Then of course we were able to interact with the wolfdogs and see them up close. Something really important to note is that the facility itself was taken care of really well. Wolves were separated by packs, and each pack had tons of space to roam about. It's exactly what you would hope to see at a wolfdog sanctuary. The staff truly takes care of the animals, and they're doing amazing work to educate the public. 100% worth the visit if you're in the Alberta area! I'm from Cleveland, Ohio and had been looking forward to this tour for months (!!) and it completely exceeded my expectations. Also if you have the ability, please donate! They are a non-profit organization, so contributions help save/re-home more and more wolfdogs!
What an incredible experience, I highly recommend the interactive tour at Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary! We got to get up close to them and even had one eat from our hand. We learned so much about these amazing animals, including that Yamnuska is the only organization in Canada that provides a safe haven for these animals. Wolfdogs do not make good companion animals and it’s another reminder of why you should not support backyard or exotic animal breeders. Go support this amazing organization!
We really enjoyed our tour at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. It was something that we have been wanting to do for a long time and it did not disappoint. We had a beautiful day and the wolfdog's were active. We did the interactive tour and was lucky enough that one wolfdog came up to us and took a treat from our hand. Booking was very easy and the staff were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Would totally recommend this tour.
From the minute we walked in to start our tour we felt welcome. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The sanctuary itself is set among beautiful scenery on grounds that have been well maintained. The crown jewel of course is the wolfdogs themselves. Every single one of these rescued creatures are incredible to watch. We felt fortunate to be able to see these gorgeous animals up close and to learn so much about them as well as watch them in action during their daily enrichment activities. The day was well spent and we will definitely visit again in the future.
This place is awesome! The staff are so friendly and dedicated to the quality of life of these beautiful animals. You get the opportunity to get up close and learn so much about them. Make sure to attend the 11:30 am wolf howl! They only do it once a day. This place is great for people of all ages.
Absolutely amazing experience. I was sad to leave and cannot wait to go back and visit again. Angie was our guide for the interactive tour. She was very friendly and knew a lot about wolves and Wolfdogs. I learned many things I did not know. Theu are such amazing g creatures. This is such a fantastic well run operation that I woukd highly reccomend!
Pre-booked for the interactive tour and it was amazing. Loved learning about these beautiful animals and getting to interact with them. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable.

We had an amazing experience at the Wolfdog Sanctuary. We did the interactive tour and got to feed them treats directly while we learned so many things about these amazing animals. I highly recommend this to everyone. Looking forward to going back, I miss them already :)
It's magical ????????❤. Staff was really friendly. If you love dogs, must visit this place and you will be pleasantly surprised ????
Our group of 6 took the self guided tour. Everyone really enjoyed the natural surroundings and walk. We manged to see quite a few wolfdogs. Children loved going. They especially loved it when they started to howel. Gift shop was priced for tourists but overall not bad considering the money spent was for a good cause , which all the children were happy to hear. Inside and out was very clean. Front staff was pleasant and very helpful . The gentleman that helped us went out of his way to pack a bag and grab extra gifts I purchased as presents so the children would not see them. Outside staff answered children's questions. Would Definitely go back!
I would go here again, and probably will when I'm around. The gift shop/front desk/washroom building was clean throughout, and the dogs (typical dogs, not wolf dogs) that came inside were friendly. We did the interactive tour in the morning, and were the only two there. Our tour guide was friendly, informative and carried the conversation well. We learned a lot about the history, behaviours and challenges relating to Wolf/Dog hybrids. This place does good work that people should support. The tour was 45 minutes or so, during which we sat in chairs in the enclosures of two packs, and had the opportunity to feed some treats to those dogs who were interested. After the tour, we spent about 20 minutes walking amongst the other enclosures, reading more facts and some back stories about the animals. I took off one star for two reasons: The first was that the 'interactive' portion was sitting in a chair amongst the dogs, and other than offering treats with a an open palm, it's not terribly 'interactive'. Although I understand well (having learned while I was there) why you need to stay calm, and stay seated - I guess I expected more. The other reason is very small, but did detract from the experience - the chairs we sat on were frosty plastic lawn chairs. Again, we expected a little more interaction, and didn't quite dress for sitting on those chairs, so that may have been on us.
I loved visiting here!! The interactive tour was really cool because you get to hand feed (if they're breve enough to come eat from your hands) the wolfdogs and learn so much about their behavior and how to tell a "wolfier" wolfdog from a "doggier" one. I particularly enjoyed learning about their group dynamics and how each of the different enclosures has its own structure and hierarchy.
Beautiful animals, lots of space for them to live and play and tons of really interesting information. We just did the sanctuary walk but would definitely return for the interactive experience! Glad that this place exists to help abused and neglected animals.
Absolutely amazing place! Seeing all the wolfdogs was great, but Nova was our favorite! A guided tour is highly recommended, because you get to see the animals up close and feed them treats. We were able to pet one of the wolfdogs on our self-guided tour, but you are only allowed to do so between 3 PM and 4 PM, since that's when she goes for a walk. The staff was very polite and pleasant to talk to. It was evident that they cared deeply about the wolfdogs' wellbeing and knew a lot about them.
Interactive tour is a great way to see how awesome the wolfdogs are up close. The staff was very kind and the gift shop had delicious tea. Just be aware that the Discover Banff Tours gift cards that you can use to book a tour online are not accepted in the gift shop.
Beautiful sanctuary with a very cute gift shop. I very much enjoyed my visit here. The park is beautifully maintained and I found the walk through the different sections very relaxing.
We had a wonderful time and were very impressed with the knowledge we learned about the behaviour and social characteristics of the wolfdogs. It was amazing to see the interactions with Amanda by Kuna, Zeus, Nova & Nikki. we highly recommend others visit the sanctuary and we intend to return soon. Brian & Cindy
Absolutely amazing experience, found in one of the experience pamphlets and glad we didn't skip on this one. Both my girlfriend and I had a great time in the interactive experience and stayed for a long while after just touring the grounds. We got to experience time with Wolfdogs while learning about their rich history and the social culture around them in an engaging way. Looking forward to coming back in the future when we can.
Did the intro tour. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly! Got to see lots of wolfdogs! I'd love to go back and do the interactive tour
Just book a day and go. Amazing work done at the sanctuary. It's a honor to so close to these amazing wolfdogs.
We did the interactive tour with Alex, it was great! We learned so much about the wolf dogs, the sanctuary, the history of wolf dogs. Alex was very knowledgeable and engaging. We were able to feed the wolf dogs treats and see a couple of tricks. Great experience!
Amazing from start to finish! I took the interactive tour and it was fantastic to be up close and personal with the wolf-dogs. I'd recommend visiting to anyone in the area, even if animals aren't usually your thing. The obvious care and attention given to all the dogs is first rate and it is clear that they are all well cared for. I'm not a 'zoo' person but this is a true sanctuary. Visit early or later in the day or fall/winter to see them at their most active though even on a hot summer day, I still saw lots! Fantastic!!
Unique experience in Alberta to check out some wolf dogs. Staff were all friendly and knowledgeable and was cool to get to see the dogs up close. The interactive tours were all booked up, so we did the next level and enjoyed it. Around 45 minutes of info, and getting to watch the dogs getting fed up close. Our guide answered all the questions the group had. Highly recommend.
This sanctuary was fantastic. Great tour and we had loads of fun
Amazing experience at a very well run sanctuary for Wolfdogs. Highly recommend the Interactive tour, even though it's the most expensive option, it allows you to hand feed both high and low content Wolfdogs while accompanied by a very informative guide. They are self-funded so every bit helps!
It was an excellent and knowledgeable visit, the way the trainer explain things are pretty awesome ????. Wolf admirers just make a trip. # I visited for a tour and planning for an Interactive tour.
What a fantastic experience! My friends and I had just spent a week in Banff on vacation and decided to stop by this wolf sanctuary before heading to the Calgary airport to go home, and boy are we all glad we made the stop! This is a truly remarkable sanctuary with guides that will walk you around the enclosures explaining the different levels of wolf dog to be found in the animals based on behavior. We got to ask all the questions we wanted and watched as our tour guide gave a few snacks to four wolf dogs. I highly recommend stopping here if you're ever in the Calgary area.
Great to see such happy animals. The sanctuary is run really well with lovely staff who know the dogs.
We booked the small group tour a month ahead. The morning of there was a snow storm as we were driving we realized our 3 hour drive was going to be much longer. I called the facility to see if we could move us to another time slot. They were full. I asked if we could get a credit for the future and because it was too sort of time we were denied. I understood because they could have booked others. When I asked if we could just come in and do general admission they said we had to purchase another ticket. Our original ticket included admission. I don't understand why we would have to pay again. I am so furious because that doesn't make any sense considering there is no specific time slots for general admission. Very disappointed!
A friendly dog will meet you by the entrance, a little coyote is so much fun to watch, try to spot all the animals behind the fence, some of them like to pose, others like to hide deep in the woods. I spent a great day in Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary.
Such an amazing experience. We did the interactive tour and it was awesome getting to see the wolf dogs up close and feed them treats. Our guide Robin was super knowledgeable and great with the animals. Would encourage everyone to check this place out and support such a great organization.
The interactive tour was great! Meeting both packs was extremely cool, my wife had a great time after wanting to go for years
What a wonderful morning! Our tour guide was fantastic, such a cool experience getting up close with the wolfdogs and learning about the sanctuary. They have engaging activities with the wolfdogs all hours of the day, so you can be flexible with your timing. I saw some complaints about the pricing. No it's not cheap, but neither is caring for 35 non-domesticated animals so we were happy to pay the fee.
Wow!! ...what a great place. Very nice and well kept the animals are in good spirits, very informative wether in the self guide tours or the up close and personal tour...they have info/exhibit at different locations throughout the park at different times spaced out enough to keep you interested and not drag on. It is a sanctuary so keeping noise to a minimum is key these are very astute animals you are visiting their homes I highly recommend this out-of-the way experience
No words can explain how you feel When you are here. The owner has saved all these wolves from people whom have tried to have them as pets. To be in the same area with them still Gives me Goosebumps. Great sanctuary to contribute to
A beautiful experience! The care the staff takes in caring for the animals and then answering visitor questions is incredible. The calmness and happiness of the animals really speaks to what a wonderful place this is! Highly recommended.
We had a great visit, the one on one experience was absolutely amazing,I highly recommend Yamnuska
I booked an interactive tour and it was amazing (I was even able to feed one of the wolfdogs!). The tour guide was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot about wolves and wolf dogs. I am very impressed with the care and compassion these wolf dogs receive at the sanctuary. I highly recommend visiting Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary!
Lovely place filled with amazing animals. Even in -18 degree weather the wolfdogs are active and engaged. They are beautiful animals, the staff are very knowledgeable and welcoming. Plenty of activities to partake in and a great atmosphere. Definitely worth getting the interactive tour and going into the space with the wolves. The animals are not threatening at all, so you allows feel comfortable around the. You even can feed them directly from your hand. The specialized teas mixed for each wolves personality is a nice touch.
This experience was surreal. I never been that close to a wolf ❤ Such an amazing creature and the sanctuary it is amazing and super organized. If you are in Calgary you must come.
Great set up ???? very informative around the site on how the wolf dogs are kept
Weekend
Although it was quite a warm day and the animals were not highly active. The groups that we got to interact with were magical to be around. They are magnificent creatures. The site offers a generous boundary for each pack. The staff themselves exhibit amazing care and respect for the wolfdogs. A really great bunch of people, knowledgeable and super easy to talk to.
Great place to visit. The wolfdogs have nice areas to stay and can hide when they want their privacy. Friendly and inspired staff.
very awesome experience. Staff are very informative and truly make it a wonderful time. And of course the wolf dogs are amazing in their own right :)
Beautiful experience that you are still able to do in our world. Very grateful for all the beautiful places Alberta has to offer. Kind humans.

Alex was very informative on our interactive tour and you could tell she was passionate about the wolfdogs. Highly recommend
When you see the wolfdogs for the first time it is an eye opener. Beautiful but dangerous, these magnificent animals are amazing in both size and stature. Opt-in for the interactive tour (make reservations) as these are small groups that have an opportunity to visit with and learn about the plight of the wolfdog and the challenges they face. There also a variety of events occurring across the sanctuary where visitors can learn about many different aspects of the wolfdogs. Whether you are local or a visitor, this sanctuary is a wonderful place to spend a few hours enjoying these wonderful animals.
This is the second time I’ve been to the sanctuary and I am so impressed with how much it’s grown in just a few years. The staff is friendly, professional and patient. They are knowledgeable and make time feel well spent! There is great learning and appreciation in visiting. Thank you and…Bundle up if you visit in the winter, Cochrane wind doesn’t mess around!
What an amazing and unique experience it is to be sitting amongst the wolfdogs at Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. Not only do you have the rare opportunity of seeing them up close, it's also a very educational tour, and your money goes directly to the care of these magnificent animals. The facilities are top-notch, the booking and check-in process was easy and efficient, and the wolfdogs are clearly living their best lives. A must do if you're ever in the area.
Incredible experience with such beautiful animals. Very friendly, informative staff, clean grounds and just an overall fantastic place.
We had an absolutely lovely time on the interactive tour! Our guide was engaging, informative, and clearly in their dream job. The sanctuary itself is beautiful and well designed, we fully intend to return in the future to learn more and see the wolfdogs through the seasons.
If in Calgary/Banff area, definitely stop by. Plan ahead and book the interactive tour. The guides are a wealth of information on wolves and wolfdogs. Thrilled to learn about the role of wolves in their ecosystems and about misconceptions that have unfortunately lead to the extinction of wolves from certain habitats. Keep up the good work!
Weekday
Wolf part is shy, dog part is friendly. Unfortunately they're wolfdogs, so they're not the cuddle monsters I wished they'd be. We were told no petting which hurt cause human instinct it to pet all the dogs, snuggle them and give them all the love.
Yamnuska was great way to spend the day! So interesting to learn about the wolf dogs, and Jason- our tour guide- seemed very invested and knowledgeable about all the dogs. Very awesome to have this in our backyard, worth the cost (as they rely fully on donations) and I will be back in the winter to see how animated the dogs are in cold weather :)
What a great experience, sanctuary was well maintained and very welcoming. John was our guide for one of the experiences we chose, he was full of knowledge and eager to help with our curiosity and questions.
Visiting Yamnuska was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve ever had. The guides and other staff are all very kind and helpful, and made the layout, events, and other details of the sanctuary easy to understand. The interactive tour was absolutely incredible. The guide (Tara, I believe) was full of knowledge about both the sanctuary and wolfdogs in general. Having the opportunity to hand-feed these beautiful creatures, and sit inches away from them as they wandered around is an experience I won’t forget. The gift shop has some great items, the sale of which helps to support the sanctuary, as they receive no government funding. While it is a wolfdog sanctuary by name, along with the 35 wolfdogs there are also rescued goats, chickens, and more on site. I can’t recommend this place enough! Bring a picnic and take a seat near the goats to enjoy it. There are also plenty of gorgeous views to admire in the area. *Edited to add that the t-shirt, scarf, and sweater I purchased in the gift shop (proceeds all go to caring for the animals) are all of really great quality, and so comfortable! The simple souvenir wristbands were a hit with the little ones, too :)
My daughter was talking about wolfdogs. I told her that the chances of a loose dog surviving an encounter with a wolf were very small. So she booked a tour at Yamnuska Wolfdogs Sanctuary where we not only learned how the animals came to be, but how beautiful they are. It is an incredibly sad story and the Sanctuary is the bright spot. It is a beautiful place to visit, even on a blustery fall day.
This is an amazing place! I had no idea the Sanctuary was even here until recently. The enclosures are large with lots of places for the wolfdogs to hide if they choose to and feel safe. The staff is also amazing. They are knowledgeable and very friendly. There is even an opportunity to pet a wolfdog! I will definitely be back!
We really enjoyed the interactive tour learning about wolf dogs and how the sanctuary protects them. After the interactive tour we went and walked around for a little bit and read more on their signs about the wolf dogs. The only thing I was disappointed with was no fault of their own. (Rather the fault of their gift shop clothing supplier) We got some shirts from the gift shop to support the sanctuary but if you were to do the same I would recommend going a size up from what you would normally wear. the size of the shirts is good but the arms are very tight which makes the shirts a little bit uncomfortable to wear.
No wait
Yes
Absolutely amazing experience. Wonderful staff, informative, interactive, fun. Highly recommend the tour where you interact with the wolf dogs and get the full history and information. Merchandise is very high quality and I wanted to buy everything. If you're contemplating it, DO IT.
The sanctuary is a great place for these amazing Wolfdogs and wolves. They offer a new home for the wolfdogs that need it. The facility is nicely laid out. The staff are very knowledgeable and the little showings are fun to watch.
The staff were amazingly kind, knowledgeable and approachable. The tour is definitely worth the extra money, it's very interactive and the animals are very healthy and beautiful. This overall experience was incredibly endearing. Would recommend this tour to anyone ❤

It's great what they do here and its clear that the dogs are well taken care of, however I didn't feel like I got the value that was paid for my visit. $60+ for the 'interactive' tour which was just getting an unobstructed view of the wolfdogs that still sat well on the other end of the (very large) enclosure. If the animals do come up to you, you're not allowed to pet them even though they practically rub their muzzles against you which was torturous given that I'm an animal person, and the Sanctuary's marketing video is literally a group of people petting the animals (although I'm unclear if it is their video or the Banff Adventures one). I'm happy to have been able to support them, but I don't think I'd return.
We loved this adventure! It was educational and interactive and the wolf dogs looked so happy and healthy. Watching the staff feed Eska was fascinating and the staff were so friendly and willing to teach us about the sanctuary. A highlight of our trip to Alberta!
Loved this! We went here last summer and did the Interactive Tour. It was really cool and so great to see this rescue organizations helping out these animals that should never be bred as pets in the first place!

Amazing place to visit, very peaceful and serene. The staff are so wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable about the wolfdogs, and the interactive tour was an incredible birthday gift from my fiancé.
Was a very informative and interesting experience. We did the intro tour where you get to stand in a viewing platform and take pictures of the dogs without fences in the way, and a 30 minute talk on the wolfdogs. Would highly recommend doing that over just the sanctuary walk as you get a more up close experience! Get to watch them being fed and scent rolling. Definitely worth the price of admission and a good cause to support!
We drove her from Leduc specifically to come and see this place. My daughter absolutely loves wolves and hopes to open this type of facility in the future so I brought her for her birthday. The wolves have nice large sections of land and seem fairly comfortable around humans. We were disappointed that we weren't able to pet the ones outside but there were 2 sweet dogs inside the gift shop. I bought each of my kids a sweater as a souvenir and admission for the 3 of us all totaled $180 which I thought was quite expensive for a 30-45 minute viewing of the animals and 2 kids sweaters. Hopefully that money goes into helping the wolves. They are very cool to see up close.. especially the black ones. Definitely worth checking out:)
What a great place to visit! The staff are very knowledgeable and passionate and you can tell the wolfdogs are very well taken care of. It was really nice walking the trails and seeing the different packs and the interactive tour was worth every penny. Some of the wolfdogs eat right off your hand and we were lucky enough to witness a group howl. I would return.
Experienced an interactive tour here and it was amazing!! Would recommend people spend the extra money to have the full hour of interaction with the wolf dogs - you can ask as many questions as you want and receive tons of information on the animals! I also got to do the full walk around tour (no payment needed after interactive tour) which was awesome. The staff are incredibly friendly and the facility is entirely non profit / donation based!! You can tell they love the animals. Highly recommend!
A beautiful place to learn about wolf dogs and see them up close with friendly guides! The new gift shop and enclosure additions look great.
Really cool experience. Not actually in Banff though. Was a great spot to stop on drive from Edmonton to Banff. Really nice facility and very informative. The encounter in which you get to go into the yards and hand feed the Wolfdogs was really cool.
It was a great experience here. I learned so much about these animals and the interactive experience was very cool. I loved that we were able to feed the wolves some treats. They're beautiful creatures and appear to be well taken care of. Apparently this white one's cousin was on GOT.
We had a lovely day at Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. It was a beautiful walk along the grounds, the animals were wonderful to observe and our highlight was when the wolfdogs coordinated their howling! we really appreciated the learning postings along the route. Thank you!
What a great experience. I didn't know. Anything about wolf dogs prior to my visit and definitely feel educated about it now. I highly recommend the interactive tour to learn even more about them and visit enclosures with a member of staff. Some of the wolf dogs have such sad stories but it's great to know there is a team of committed individuals behind the Sanctuary and keen to educate people about the Wolfdogs. I highly recommend a visit, do it in winter when the dogs are more active as well. Don't miss out on visiting Skookum, the resident giant malamute in the information office, what a big gentle giant! Thank you to the staff for answering all our questions.
