Love going here in the summer. Some of the animals usually ghost you but it depends on how hot it is and the time of day. Definitely worth the trip!

Susan Ferguson

Good paths and visitor centre though no cafe. A lot of the animals were hiding when we went as it was very hot. Some of the enclosures didn't seem very big. I'm no expert in that respect though...

Beautiful forest walk on the boardwalk. The forest and lichens were fascinating! Be sure to pick up the lichen identification page in the visitors centre and try to spot the different lichens. Animals are great fun to spot in their habitats! I spy!

Beautiful location with lots of natural beauty and some animals to see. Makes for a perfect afternoon trip from St. Johns. Really great to check out in the summer months, better again on not so nice days when there aren't as many people around.

One of my favorite places to visit in NL. A lot of the animals are rescues, and the ones that aren't are released at the end of each season. Highlights are the Lynx, Caribou, Moose, Foxes, Mink, snowy owl, Bald Eagle and the rare Pine Marten.

Scenic, informative and a great way to get some exercise while admiring beautuful rescue animals.

Great place to visit for the walk and to see many native animals.

One of Newfoundland's little hidden gems. We recently took a 2 week vacation to Newfoundland and didn't hardly see any wildlife, don't know if we just got the wrong time of the year or what. Anyways, this place has many injured animals that are unfit for the wild but still nice to see. The park is amazing because you get to see the animals from a raised path instead of through a fence.

Mel H

This is the park of good intentions towards those local species that are wounded or unable to return to their natural environment. We were told that there were many animals. Don't expect to see them all. Some birds died, other enclosures were empty, frogs made themselves invisible and the moose were utterly shy. More than anything, visiting this park is a nice walk.

The interpretation centre is terrific - lots of taxidermied animals to see, information panels, a small area for kids to colour and play. The washrooms are large and clean. The walking trail is all wooden boardwalk, which is great for strollers, wheelchairs or wagons. The animals are enclosed, there are small information panels to learn about each animal in the enclosure. It is a long walk with smaller kids - bring a stroller and water!

(Translated) Super little known park where you can see a large variety of animals, depending on when you go. We were lucky to see caribou, a lynx, a moose, owls, eagles and a hawk. Wild animals collected because they were wounded, recovering before being released. Free entry. (Original) Super parc assez méconnu où vous pourrez voir une assez grande variété d'animaux, selon le moment où vous irez. Thankfully we were passing by and didn't take a trip from the city for it. A one hour walk were we didn't saw (barely) one animal. Just a long board walk with a bunch of empty pens. It's kind of like folktale the emperor's new clothes. Everyone there knew it sucked but nobody wanted to say. The purpose on our end is to see wild animals. It did not deliver.

A great place to kill a day with the kids and it's free! Just a tip, try to go when it's overcast and cool if you want to increase your odds of seeing the animals. They often stay hidden under shade when it's hot.

I liked my walk at the Salmonier Nature Park. Would have loved it, if it wasn't raining, cold & windy. Anyways, who can stop the * forces of nature*?! Not me, not you, not us, not anyone. I will visit there again; one sunny, warm afternoon. I ❤ nature & wildlife. BTW, I saw a caribou poo.

Kids love going to this place and best of all it's free! But please leave a donation at the main desk of the interpretation center. The center also boasts clean washrooms and exhibits. Outside is a great chance to see live Newfoundland wildlife up close. The trail is a beautiful boardwalk through the woods with well kept enclosures for the animals. The animals are those who can not be rehabilitated due to permanent injury or past association with humans. There are washrooms available on the trail about half way through.

This is a great way to experience Newfoundland wildlife in a natural habitat. There is a very pleasant walk and you see the wildlife as you travel. we saw Moose and Caribou as well as smaller mammals and many birds. You can also picnic. The park is free, although you can make voluntary contributions.

David Brake

A terrific resource - it's in a beautiful setting, there was hardly anyone there when I went (early October on a sunny day) so the animals were in plain view and didn't seem disturbed to see us. A small but attractive selection. And it's free!

Michael and Nicole Gouveia

Too hot to see many animals. Really nice boardwalk that you can push a stroller on.

It was a wonderful walk and the boardwalk makes it accessible for most people. The animals are all rescues and the absolute highlight. It is a wonderful destination to spend a few hours in.

A place where the animals are being rehabilitated. A beautiful place for people to take in the wildlife of Newfoundland. The staff are friendly and helpful. Enjoy seeing animals when your quiet. If you keep your voices down you will see a lot more animals. Admission is free but it's nice to throw a bit of coin to the fund, which goes toward the animals.

L 4o

Really cool nature park with a wildlife sanctuary. Was able to see many of the animals during my walk.

Robert Tucker

A great place to take the kids. No admission cost. A chance to see some wildlife.

Great place for the entire family to enjoy a hike in nature while viewing some indigenous Newfoundland wildlife. The trail is well maintained and the staff were very friendly. Ensure you have water with you before you go, but there are restroom facilities along the path; would certainly go again.

Salmonier Nature Park is a wonderful spot to observe local species in their natural habitat. You can observe beavers, foxes, hares, lynxes, martens, moose and owls among others. You walk through the park on a wonderful boardwalk. A round-trip takes about seventy-five minutes. There is an interesting exhibition about the animals at the entrance as well. Staff is really helpful. There is no entrance fee. Sadly, some visitors make a lot of noise as they annoy the peaceful animals and they should learn to be more respectful.

C. Delahunty

This is a nice walk with a variety of animals to see. It's far easier to see animals here than in the wild. The wilderness needs to step up its game if it wants to compete with Salmonier Nature Park.

Had a great tour and also had a meal of homemade soup. They have a friendly and very knowledgeable staff. Our group learned a great deal during our visit about local species of wildlife and our ecosystem. Inside the facility there are skeletons and taxidermied animals and the like, the walking trail (a boardwalk) brings you through areas where live (I believe in most cases rescued injured) animals reside in safety and are cared for. It provided an opportunity to get pretty up close to a wide variety of animals and learn more about them. Some I had never had the chance to see in the wild... though some are so camouflaged or skilled we still couldn't see them in their cages areas!!

Amazing park, free, (donations gratefully accepted- as there is significant upkeep required). A host at the front desk was very knowledgeable and helpful in answering natural history questions! ???? The entire path is a smooth boardwalk which takes at least an hour to walk. Numerous interpretive signs are located all along the path. It would even be possible to take a wheelchair on the path, as long as there was someone strong and fit to be able to push it up the gentle inclines. Well worth a visit to enjoy the fresh spruce scented air surrounding you as you observe the various fauna species in their enclosures and the extensive flora, native to this part of the world.

(Translated) “Walk with guaranteed animal sighting” The park is ideal for a short walk and to see individual animals in a natural environment. Entry is free, but you will be advised of the possibility of making a donation. The walk can also be done with young children in 1-2 hours. We had some bad weather and it was raining during our walk. You walk while walking on a wooden promenade, which is a simple walkway that is also suitable for prams. The animals were very exciting and beautiful to look at, but some enclosures were also empty. We would rather not go here anymore, but that is mainly because we visited other animal parks on our trip through Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, which were bigger and more exciting.

Great place to see a bunch of animals. Most of them are used to the presence of people and will not attempt to hide. Both the caribous and the moose are very easy to spot and nice to see. The lynx and the red fox were really hard to find. I think the animals are more likely to come out during cloudy weather, preferably after or during rain.
