Terrible service.

Friendly folk, beautiful view... wines are best I have had in Hudson Valley. Love the Red Trail and the Traminette. . .

Gorgeous view! Great wine!

A very enjoyable tasting, Megan was great. She was very animated which made the experience great.

The winery itself it’s small and cozy with a great ambience and a nice view. Wine tasting was great but rushed because they were busy. inside it’s overwhelming the amount of people that was trying to get some wine and we ended up waiting for a long time. If I ever come back I recommend to come a weekday (other than Thursday or Friday) it might be a little less crowded.

Driving from Queens Saturday 10/23/21 drove to Whitecliff Vineyard after going to Tantillo's Farm Market for Apple cider donuts. We didn't do wine tasting due to not having reservations during weekend but I brought 2 bottles of white wines which included the new 2020 Reisling

Barb Landis

Good selection of wines and fun staff. My group had fun doing a tasting and chatting it up with the girl behind the counter. Would love to see it in summer. Nice views of the white cliff. Will come again.

Very rude, as well as, piss poor customer service.

I am so disappointed at the customer service at this place. My cousin called in advance to confirm our party of 10 could be accommodated. It was no problem ahead of time but when we got there the man behind the counter kept on saying they couldn’t accommodate parties larger than 6. What I don’t understand is why we just weren’t booked two tables in the first place- one for 6 and one for 4. Or 5 and 5. That’s what other places do. Instead we were told that 6 of our party could sit and the other 4 would be pretty much out of luck. What’s more is that there were so many empty tables outside that they could have accommodated us. What’s most upsetting though is how we were treated by the man behind the counter. He was condescending and rude and insinuated that I just didn’t understand what he was saying. I’ve never been treated so poorly before at an establishment and have never been so compelled to post a review before so other people know to avoid this place at all costs.

Whitecliff has great wine and a charming tasting room in a beautiful location. From the outdoor patio seating area and picnic tables there are fabulous views of the Shawangunk Ridge. The wine list is enormous, so I can confidently say there’s definitely something for everyone. There’s a good reason the place can get crowded! You can get wine by-the-glass, wine flights (choose red/white dry/sweet or build your own), and even a wine and cheese pairing with a tour (the illustrious Gold Tasting). It would take a few trips to try them all (which you should), but don’t worry- they have a wine club and host several tasting events throughout the year. This is a winery always with something new, and always worth the visit.

Great wine! Pretty setting. And also dog friendly!!

Sorry not impressed. Have visited a number of winerys, this ranks at bottom. Our presence ignored till leaving to find a nice atmosphere winery. Never tried wine here so no comment on quality. But outside and view nothing to rave about as they advertise. Did find a very nice winery a short distance away.

Elise Killer

A large variety of wines (and almost exclusively vegan!!), friendly and knowledgeable staff, beautiful view and atmosphere, and dog friendly, which is a HUGE bonus.

I have been a Whitecliff Vineyard member for about a year, since we stumbled upon it on happenstance one day. We have visited in all seasons since then, enjoying our experience with the staff and the delicious flavors of the wines. We have watched this company grow, and have been thrilled by it. We went today for a wine tasting and to replenish our depleted stock. I was so proud of the staff at Whitecliff. They have had to make all sorts of changes and accommodations since this awful covid-19 appeared (from what we could see all of the Governor's mandates and rules were followed). They have added some outdoor seating and done away with bringing in your own food as they now serve food on premises. The choices are perfect to pair with the delicious wine flavors available. Upon arrival, you await your turn to order your flight for tasting, you order your accompanying food, and can go sit outside. The staff will then bring you what you ordered, complete with a sheet that has all of the information on the wine you are trying. BONUS: the little cups accompanying your flight are completely biodegradable. Kudos Whitecliff on being so environmentally conscious! I watched on this hot Saturday as the staff hustled to keep things clean, and serve the customers as best they could. I qas happy to enjoy the beautiful grounds of Whitecliff under an umbrella while I watched others gather in their small groups, socially distanced, and smile at one another. It was really a lovely day, a beautiful example of how even amidst a pandemic, good companies can come together and offer their best possible service. I am proud to support this small business!

My family has been going here every year for 5 years & have ordered off their website as well. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Their wines are fantastic. Look forward to seeing them next year lol.

This is a wonderful and beautiful winery, and they are doing an amazing job during these tough times. You can tell they are going the extra mile to serve their customers and create a beautiful experience. Their wines are lovely and really well priced. They are following all the COVID guidelines and keeping everyone safe. Excellent place and staff!

Jordan Angerosa

This place used to be one of my favorites in the area, but they've gotten pretentious with their tasting prices and stingy on their pours. The wines are good, but expect to pay $14 to taste them. The hudson valley is known for good Cab Franc and this place is no exception. But if you want a decent pour, get your tasting poured by one of the ladies behind the counter and not the wine maker.

Phil Conigliaro

a good selection of wines, when you get a tasting they give you a healthy pour so you can share or really savor each taste. for now it's only outdoor seating, and when it's busy. survive can be a little slow.

Bruce Kimbrough

Great staff, great view and wonder.

David O'Brien

This is a great winery owned and run by a lovely family with excellent taste in wine. I have been going for the last few years and have always had a great experience. It is by far my favorite wine ever. Not only is their selection very diverse, but they are always trying new varieties so it's worth going back over and over again. As others have said, the view is stunning and worth the trip all on its own. I have often arrived without reservations and they have always managed to accommodate me for a tasting (granted my group has never been bigger than 4). When it comes to COVID protocols, I must say I really appreciate their willingness to support and enforce rules that protect the health and safety of their customers, even at the expense of offending a few individuals who would rather ignore precaution for the sake of their own perceived comfort. I highly recommend adding Whitecliff to your Upstate NY itinerary!

Max Migliore

Great wines! Having them at our wedding.

Carolina Felix

Beautiful view, not impressed with the wine but it’s worth to do the tasting, everyone’s palate is different. Social distance definitely in place, you can only go I side the built one by one. You need to buy food with you tasting ‘Cuomo’s law’ in NY.

Bad winery. The people are rude and not interested in talking to you about their wine. You HAVE to ask them question and TRY to get some sort of a story, to feel the atmosphere, but all they do just answer your questions with a rude and snobbish attitude. There is no love in the wines their are making. Also I was there with my father, and they took him seriously while being absolutely ignorant towards me.

Kayly Reinicke

A huge waste of time. I reserved a tasting more than a week prior to visiting, and received a confirmation email. Upon arriving they "couldn't find my reservation". It wasn't until I showed them the email that they told me the would let us use a table. Our party of 4 all ordered tastings. They poured the wine, which was the bottom of bottles full of sediment. So disgusting. Not sure why they did not just open new bottles. Nothing was explained, and we were very confused, we tried to ask questions and were basically turned away. Also, what kind of winery does not allow you to bring your own food, or buy bottles of their own wine to drink at the winery? I would understand more if they served food. But the only options were cheese and crackers, and like nuts/chocolate. Not really worth buying. The wine was not good, below average at best. Beside the fact that we got a lot of sediment, nothing tasted good. We ended up dumping most of it. The area was beautiful, but not worth visiting. Poor customer service, poor product, would not recommend.

Favorite Hudson Valley Winery. I drive an hour to visit at least once a season. On warmer days especially I like to buy a bottle or glass to sit outside enjoying the view of the mountain and vineyard. I would highly recommend becoming a wine club member. They have an array of wines- whites, reds, sweet l, dry, and semi-dry. I prefer the dry reds, they do not disappoint. The winery is family owned. They use sustainable practices on their vineyards which I truly appreciate.

My best friend and I took a trip up to Whitecliff winery right at the beginning of the new year. We absolutely loved it. The experience was awesome, the staff was so friendly, and we even took a bottle home. Sadly we ran out because it was so good! But they happily sent us 2 new bottles (that I’m sure won’t last long!) they were quick to respond to emails and questions, the new bottles of wine shipped super quick no problems at all. Will definitely be visiting again and most definitely recommend to others! You won’t regret it.

Whitecliff isn't just my favorite vineyard and winery in NY state, it's my favorite in America. As a two decade plus vegan, the selection of vegan friendly wines and food is incredible. The staff are amazing and extremely knowledgeable. I see some folks have posted bad reviews. I have been there many times and never witnessed any of the rude behavior being referred to. To me that means you brought it in with you. I could not recommend Whitecliff more highly than I do. Some of my absolute favorite wine.

I do not usually write reviews. But today I have to sit down and take my time and write about this place. Today is a Saturday. My family and I drove up almost 2 hours and anticipated wonderful winery experience. I heard many wonderful things about this place. We made an appointment for 7 people. However the limit is 6 people. My family member made a reservation and the worker said they can accommodate for 7 people. We were all excited. We arrived and this guy with tattoos on his arms and legs said we cannot be served because we are a party of 7. We understand during this COVID pandemic and the responsibility to social distance and not gather in big groups. We offered to separate our group into two however this employee/manager said he cannot serve us. He did not acknowledge our reservation, did not apologize for the wrong information when they took our reservation and did not amend for their miscommunication. He did not care for customers satisfaction at all. As when we exit the area some customers was upset for us. They said it was ridiculous and stupid. That guy offered wine to go however he gave us an impression he did not want us in his winery. He want us to at least buy wine from this place. We never even sat down to try the wine. Why would I buy something that was uninviting in the first place. Please if you do go, do not tell them you are a party more than 6. Go in two groups and enjoy your time!

We visited Whitecliff Winery on a lovely fall weekend and had an amazing visit. Their reisling was ah-mazing, far and away better than anything we've had in Napa. Everything we tasted was really good, well balanced and the woman in the tasting room was knowledgeable and helpful, but unfortunately I can't remember her name. We took a tour of the winery and walked away feeling like we knew everything to know about making wine. They really welcomed us like family. If you're in the area, Whitecliff is a must see. We'll definitely be back!!

Cris Carpenter

Beautiful grounds and lovely people/owners. The wine is very good. All in all a very nice experience.

Steve Zucker

I'm adding to the list of poor reviews that call out the terrible customer service and group planning services at the winery. It's a shame because we like the winery and product (we've been there about five times this year) but we're not going back, ever. We started communicating with Tristan a few weeks ago, making it clear that we wanted to reserve the cellar for an event on a very specific date. After inconsistent communications (he didn't call when he said he would, slow to reply to emails) and a very dismissive and arrogant attitude (saying things like "well, my family does own the winery") we received an email stating that "someone else booked your date, best of luck". The date was available when we first starting talking to you and you don't have the consideration to put a soft-hold on it or give us first right of refusal? Terribly inconsiderate and unprofessional. Best of luck!

Mike Vance

Awosting White never fails to impress. Great service and amazing views.

David “PvPXan” Bentley

Friendly and informative. Prices are very good and the wine was very good. Usually I do not have trouble deciding on a bottle or two from a place, but I liked every wine I tasted and walked away with half a case and still felt I could have bought more. The scenery here is also unmatched. Beautiful view!!!

The wines were good. Unfortunately, the service wasn’t. The young blonde working the the counter had terrible customer service skills. I feel bad for the winemaker. She was a terrible representation of their brand and for that reason I probably wouldn’t return. The grounds are beautiful. I wish this experience wouldn’t have left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've only been to Robibero before this, and it's the same type of deal -- wine flights + free glass, $2 off if you buy a bottle. They have various flights: dry white, fruity, sweet dessert wines, rosé, dry red, whitecliff, bubbles... The fruity flight was $10 for 5 different wine tastings. The Rosé flight was $8 for 4 wine tastings. I really enjoyed the 2014 Traminette! That was the best out of all of them. They're also known for the Awosting White and Redtrail. They also serve cheese, so you can get some cheese and crackers and take your wine outside to their picnic tables outside and enjoy the sun (or shade).

Francesca N

Absolutely gorgeous setting, friendly and knowledgeable staff and great tasting wine. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting the Hudson Valley!

Having been fortunate enough to have tasted the products of this winery since it’s inception, it is always satisfying to taste the latest offerings. Without a doubt, some of the best wines in the Valley(and beyond).

It pains me to write this review as we have been coming to Whitecliff for ages, every summer, and recently, joined the wine club. Before coming to the winery, I have extensively communicated with Tristan, and my understanding was that reservations were only required for the tastings. Our plan was to grab a few bottles and enjoy the day. We still made the reservation, and although, our group was larger than 6 people, we were allowed to have 8 people. It ended up being 9 adults, and we had offered to split into two tables, but we were not allowed to do that. We felt very unwelcomed from the start and were told that we could only have the table for an hour. I don't recall this limit communicated before, and had we known about it, we would have made different plans. We ordered a lot of wine, and planned to enjoy the afternoon, sipping it at the winery, while eating the cheese that we bought from the winery and some of the snacks that we brought from home which were not sold at the winery. As long-time patrons, we expected more courtesy. Instead, we had to give up the table, and relocate to the back of the property using our own blankets, in order to be able to spend the time at the winery. What upsets me the most is that we were told all of these restrictions are supposedly in place due to COVID-19 regulations and here is an interesting part: 1. The premises have 3 portable toilets, and none of the toilets have hand sanitizer in them, or right outside of them. Only one toilet has soap, but no running water. When we told the two ladies working in the tasting room about it, they said they would check on it, but never did. It's not like they ran out of the sanitizer itself in the toilets-there were not even the sanitizer pumps inside or outside. How can you say that you are following COVID procedures when there is a lack of basic sanitary measures? 2. As to the size of the parties, if I remember correctly, outdoor dining during Stage 2 permitted 10 people seated together, and the region is now in Stage 4, so not sure where the rule of 6 people at the table applies anymore. It might have been applicable 3 months ago. Look, I am not one of those people who deny the seriousness of the virus, however, I hate when the rules that are no longer applicable, continue to be used for some other purpose. You can just say that these are your rules, and as a private business owner, you can decide how you want to run your business, but please don't say that these rules exist because of COVID-19. This is just misleading. It's too bad that our experience this time was not stellar because the wine is actually great, and had our experience been better, I am sure all 9 people would have bought at least half a case. Oh, and btw, the tables were half empty, and under the tent, I saw maybe only one party. So did not seem as busy as we were told. 3. Two of the people in our party are club members, and as such, we have the benefit of four free tastings between the two of us (used to be four per member, but they cut it down, also supposedly due to the pandemic). When we wanted to do the tastings, we were simply denied, the reason given was that the winery was already making a concession for us by allowing us to have more people.

Really good wine selection. Took home like four different bottles.

It bothers me to think I considered this location (based off of photos) for my wedding. Thank goodness we decided on a different place. We went for a tasting today and immediately turned home. I have an allergy to wine w added sulfates. It’s frustrating enough that I have to ask about this every time I’m out...For the manager to say (with his voice raised) “ALL WINE HAS SULFITES” was aggressive. I then went to purchase a bottle wine because we drove all the way there. I asked if we could have the wine on the lawn to the person helping us or if we had to buy a glass separate? From across the room I hear a loud explanation of how you must buy by the glass and the bottle was to go. We were simply asking how to drink on the property and were happy to buy it by the glass but needed an explanation of how sitting on the lawn worked? Instead of letting the person helping us kindly guide us through the experience he had to jump down our throat again. So we left without buying anything. I called to speak w the manager to express how upsetting it was to be treated that way after considering giving them our business today but also for our wedding. SURPRISE, SURPRISE I was connected with the same person and said it was upsetting to be spoken to that way after a simple question. He said “I’m sorry you feel that way, I was just trying to answer your question.” That is not a sincere apology and horrible customer service. Never again. Turn around while you can, the views of that mountain are better elsewhere.

Karen Piccin

Took a tour of 8 wineries today on the Shawangunk Trail. Whitecliff is the only one my group would never recommend. The staff was rude and condescending. Pass this winery over if you are visiting the trail. Brotherhood, Robibero and Glorie wineries are much better choices. If I could give this place less than one star, I would.

This is by far the best vineyard experience I've had in the Hudson valley. The scenery is unparalleled, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and most importantly the wine is some of the best in New York state and beyond.

If I could leave 10 stars I would, that is how great our experience with Whitecliff was. Wife and I did a little mini vacation in Stone Ridge, NY and was looking for some tourist activities and Whitecliff tasting popped up. I called over to the winery to get more info, spoke to the owner Yancey who explained as it was Tuesday, they were closed but she was having some friends come by for a private tasting and I was more then welcome to join them. I was amazed that she extended the invitation and boy was I glad she did. We went and spent more then 2 hours tasting 10 different wines and each one was better then the next. If you told me I had to pick 1 wine that we liked the best it wouldn’t be easy but Two Cabs really was amazing. We left there with 6 bottles of wine that we’re looking forward to finish so we can buy more! I could go on and on about how great the wine was/is, but what really makes me want to give them 10 stars is how great Yancey is. I don’t think many owners of a business would invite strangers over to their business while it was closed. It’s nice to see an owner who really cares about their product and their customer. I could tell from speaking to Yancey how much pride they have in their product and how important the customer experience is to them. I’m pretty sure I’m never going to get an invite from the president of E & J Gallo Winery as he is probably in a board meeting about best way to maximize profits. In summary, this place is amazing, and if you’re ever in the area, this is a must see.

I wrote a bad review last year that I took down because the manager apologized and sent us a free tasting as an “I’m sorry”. I’ve been back twice and every time it gets worst and worst. The female manager has to be one of the most unprofessional and rudest people I have been around and they have policies that don’t make sense (like you can’t buy a bottle of wine to enjoy at the….winery?). The grounds aren’t that nice and the service is terrible and I always feel like I am inconveniencing them when I’m there. We left here and went to Magnanini Winery and it was 100 times better. Definitely won’t be frequenting this establishment anymore.

Chris Mann

Went out with a group of 6 just last weekend . The whole group had a great time and everyone really enjoyed themselves. The staff was super friendly especially Christine she helped a few of our group who weren't really sure what they liked in Wine. Plenty of selections and didn't take long for everyone to find there own particular best choice. Will recommend to all my friends and family

This is the best winemaker in lower NY without considering LI. This is a must-go-to if you're in the Hudson Valley. Been a club member for years and couldn't believe anyone would rate this winery ???? below a four. Makes award winning wines in both white and red. Not a one hit wonder winemaker. Don't forget to bring a picnic basket and enjoy the view of the cliffs.

Not so far off the beautiful Hudson Valley countryside near New Paltz and Newburgh, Whitecliff offers a comfortable venue to relax, and enjoy some VERY good and appreciate a very knowledgeable and friendly team. The views are spectacular, and the varietals will surprise you with the quality and diversity. Raya was an amazing host and poured us some great wine. We all left very pleased and impressed.

Visited on a beautiful June day. Great staff, delicious wines and an intimate outdoor area amongst the vines.

David Jamroz

First time at a winery and doing a tasting. The one server made me feel uncomfortable for lack of knowledge and wasn't friendly. There is only one bathroom here and waited in line for 15 minutes just to use a restroom which is a big negative. The wines I did sample were very good and the winery has a very nice view of the cliffs. I'd suggest to bring a chair or a blanket if you want to spend some time here because there aren't many seats on a crowded day.

The winery itself is lovely but one of their waiters completely sours the experience. If you see him, just turn away because he will ruin your day. We went to the winery with 10 people and when this server saw us said we need a reservation for groups of 5+. We ask then if we can break into separate groups or just get some glasses. To our complete surprise and disappointment he flat out refused. There was no reasoning with him or working anything out with him. We were willing to sit separately and everything. The place wasn't even busy. We all drove a long way to get there and to be refused service like that is just insulting. We had gone there before when he is not there and the experience was great. they have a few good wines to try for sure.

Every wine was delicious save for one. Friendly server, beautiful spot. Sparkling rose in a growler to take home was lovely.

This was my second time here. Staff was extremely rude , both times, and made to let me feel like I was a bother when I purchased a glass of wine. Zero customer service and friendliness. I understand these are different and difficult times, but no reason for such attitude. Standing in line, the person behind me mimicked the same sentiment. Went to another winery, such a difference!!!

COVID procedures are good, keeping everyone outside and just coming in quickly to order one at a time. They still take the time to tell you about each wine in your tasting which are all excellent.

No trip to the Hudson valley would be complete without a trip to Whitecliff. Incredibly knowledgeable and passionate staff along with such a beautiful vineyard. Couldn’t recommend a trip here enough.

Yesterday we had a group of 9 with a reservation which was made weeks to celebrate a postponed 30th birthday celebration. The staff were completely rude and not welcoming at all. They weren’t accommodating what so ever and treated us so poorly giving us attitude and making us feel as if we were a burden. However, after we received our glasses of wine (which our party was told we weren’t allowed to do wine tastings and that we could only buy full glasses of wine but other parties were allowed to) we sat down at two picnic tables abiding by the social distancing regulations we were told we had to follow by the winery. Upon sitting down we then saw a party of roughly 10 people sit down at one picnic table and then were given the most hospitable service ever with wine brought directly to the table by the staff and they were able to all be together at one table. We all watched the staff be so incredibly nice to these individuals and made it a point to talk to them as well as be friendly after we were treated like absolute garbage. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this vineyard to anyone and 1 star is being way more generous. I understand the concerns with our current situation were being faced with. However, your staff need to treat every customer with the same respect and utmost customer service ESPECIALLY a party with a reservation, celebrating a pretty big life milestone.

The only winery I’ve ever been to that doesn’t allow you to enjoy a bottle of wine on premises “because of the liability issues..” It’s by the glass only, which I wouldn’t mind, but the folks running the place just aren’t friendly. The view is stunning, which is the only thing this place has going for it. With all the great options in the area, I’d suggest you by-pass this one.

We live more than an hour away but love coming to the winery whenever we can! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the wines are excellent. Our favorites are the Traminette and their new port.

Unfortunately, my 6 friends and I did not have a positive experience at the vineyard. Upon arrival, the server, Megan, told us it would’ve been “difficult to give us the best service possible” due to having 7 people in our party with no reservation. However, both the website (which we checked before coming) and the door state that reservations are only required for parties of 8 or more. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon with one other person at the vineyard. Megan then proceeded to pour our tastings in tiny amounts and with little consistency. We then tried to explain our confusion about her attitude and outlook on our arrival because we were not 8 people and it wasn’t a weekend. She proceeded to tell us that she wasn’t sure what we were hoping for and our last tasting was barely a sip of wine. We also agreed to all get the same tasting for her convenience as she suggested. We asked for a manager or supervisor and she said they were not on site and did not have a direct number. We told her we were hoping to end the tasting on a positive note but she said that she “had a lot to do today” and was unprepared for our visit and that we should call next time. She also mentioned, at 4:45, that the vineyard closes at 5:30 and that we should begin to find an Uber because it sometimes takes a long time, but we still has two tastings left. It was a disappointing and frustrating visit. Coming from a group of ER nurses, we were confused about her stress level regarding pouring wine for 7 people on a Thursday afternoon. I wish we had a better experience here as the rest of New Paltz has been so enjoyable.
