We have all the information of people who are buying the services and products of 529 Wellington Steakhouse (Winery) in the territory of Winnipeg (Canada).
Nowadays the business has a score of 4.7 out of 5 and that rating has been based on 127 reviews.
As you can see the average score it has is almost the top, and it is based on a very large number of feddbacks, so we can think that the evaluation is very accurate. If people have bothered to rate when they've done well with the service, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to give scores when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Winery is classified in the category of Fine dining restaurant.
The place seldom changes, it is stuck in time where the steak gods prepared the meat perfectly, and the serving bearded angel brought it to you on a plate, with marrow sauce. It is the premier steak house in Winnipeg. Virtually flawless food and service every time we visit.
The best steak I have ever had, is almost an understatement! This was delicious. We went here for our work Christmas banquet, and I have never been served by such professionals in their field! Loved it, would go back again if I had the money.
We had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary at this exquisite restaurant. Health protocols are properly implemented, with friendly staff ensuring the safety of all guests. From the oysters on the half shell and fantastic wine list, to the liqueur sundae with coffee and brandy snifters, everything was perfect. It is a unique experience with really cool architecture, artwork and intimate 'break out' dining rooms throughout.
Food tends to be very consistent here. This was a little while back when they had beef wellington as a feature. It was great. My friend felt it was better than the porterhouse. My favorite side is the mashed yams. The onion tower is another favorite. They had a luxe poutine that they served in the past with truffle oil. It used to come with foie gras, but I'm not sure if it still does. I like a lot of their appetizers. Sometimes I'll get a craving for their pate and go to the lounge just to satisfy it. I usually ask for their bread and not eat it with the toast points. I tend to prefer going for lunch. They have some very well priced options for those who are value minded. Service is the same, but they don't always offer the beef tour during that time. I'm sure if you ask they will do it. There are servers I prefer over others. Jeff is definitely one of them.
Great food, service and atmosphere, had a wonderful evening, only hope soon we can all sit with family and friends but most certainly will be back. Our server was outstanding.
Dinner
We had our meal delivered this evening and it was still as fantastic as our visits to the restaurant. We live out near Birds Hill Park. and delivery was not a problem!! Great service and food!
Kitchen served me two separate sandwiches with food that I am allergic to, DO NOT go here if you have severe allergies.
Loved our fantastic dinner in the beautiful courtyard. It was a perfect evening to dine outdoors. Service was top notch as always. Smoked goldeye and gigantic shrimp cocktail to start. Lobster Mac & cheese, asparagus, golden beets to share along with a very large stuffed chicken breast and a beef tenderloin with two sautéed shrimp. Everything was very delicious. And of course it’s wonderful to have leftovers!! It’s the best restaurant in town, 529 Wellington always gets it right.
Yum! Every thing was spectacular. The patio is thoughtfully designed for covid19 precautions.
Went for lunch with a friend the other day. We had a nice experience, service was excellent. Starter caesar salad was delicious. I had the fish and chips. The fish was nice with a wonderful scratch made tartar sauce. The chips were a disappointment. They were not freshly made and lacked salt. My friend had the Yorkshire pudding, she said it was good. Overall, a good experience.
Excellent staff, lots of excellent food!
Its a bit expensive but very delicious. Went there for my one year anniversary and my five year anniversary. Will definitely go again.
Great place , tasty food, excellent service
Dinner
This restaurant is indeed the best in Winnipeg. The atmosphere is very authentic and calm, it makes you feel very special. The service is excellent and the staff are very kind - if it is your first time, you will get to hear a tour and the meat is nicely presented. (You can also have all kind of seafood) it is really hard to express this experience in words. AMAZING PLACE
Group of 8 for a late lunch. Fabulous menu and equal quality. The portions were definitely enough. They go way overboard on the home fries so be careful on the sides. Everyone enjoyed , no complaints.
Great place to eat, good food, and excellent service from Russell, cheers (COYS)
Went there for our friend surprise birthday party. They were late to seat us for our reservation however they got us seated in time for the surprise. Great food and service. Russell was excellent!
We enjoyed our visit at this high quality and cozy restaurant! Perfect
My first visit here with my husband - celebrating our 10 year anniversary! Wouldn't have chose to have it celebrated anywhere else. The ambience was perfect, the server who looked after us was really attentive and knowledgeable and took great interest in our preferences for wine. Food was absolutely delicious! Would definitely come back here for another great treat. Thank you so much, team!
I went for a meal to celebrate my sister's recent destination wedding that I wasn't able to attend. We brought along our 18 month old son and my sister brought her 9 month old. We made an early reservation and tried to keep our little ones as calm as possible. The staff made a big production out of closing the doors to the private room they sat us in and were very clear that they wanted us out in less than 2 hours to accommodate an upcoming reservation. The food was OK. My steak was delicious but the sides were mediocre when compared to their cost. Low marks for making us feel unwelcome.
Went for lunch today. First time back in about 15 years. I went for the food and was underwhelmed. I had the steakhouse burger with onion rings. Pros:. It was a lot of food. Gigantic burger with lots of toppings. Cons:. It was pretty tasteless. The onion rings...3 of them...were oversized so that meant a ton of deep fried batter. Very heavy with no real taste other than the fried oil batter taste. My friends had the prime rib steak sandwich and said it was good. It came very plain looking. See pic. Steak on some bread basically. I think that was $38 alone. I've had juicier more flavourful burgers in a lot of other places and would consider those next time. The location, restaurant and staff were very nice. Two of our table had dessert...and their dessert menu is extensive. And expensive. It's a definite must try once experience for anyone. I was left expecting more.

We love this place for Beef and our Birthday Lunch in January.
Loved everything about our food and evening!!
Amazing steak.. couldnt be more impressed. The staff are so professional and the restaurant is very clean.
Meal type
Pricey but well worth it. Get your steak "Chicago" style if you are an avid griller! 528 Au Gratin Potatoes is not enough for two... Wild mushrooms fantastic!
One word: pretentious. I was told wonders about this place, turns out it is quite disappointing. Waiters will profile you and act accordingly. I do not come to a supposedly upscale restaurant to be called "buddy" by the staff. And if you are wondering, I was dressed appropriately for the kind of restaurant I thought it was. The food is pretty good, but it is overpriced. It is roughly the same food quality as you get at an Earls or a Joey's, except they charge you an extra $8-9 if you do want a side with a burger. Desserts are nothing special, the same as in most restaurants in town. Do not go there if you're from out of town and want an actual fine dining experience, because this is not it.
Awesome food. Great atmosphere. Very friendly service.
For the first time of my life, I didn’t even care what the bill totalled up to. Absolutely amazing dishes with such full vivid flavours. Service was so descriptive and caring. If you want to experience fine dinning with real chefs and crew, a must go!!!
Went here for dinner and it was a wonderful meal. Prices were high but the meal was definitely worth it. Would definitely come back again. We also went early, before it got too busy, and it had a nice, quiet atmosphere. A bit louder later on in the evening. The Beef Wellington was perfectly cooked.
Just superb! The place was packed when we arrived. It seemed there was a wedding reception but they were quick to find a place for us. The service was great and very welcoming. We had scallops for an appetizer and they were cooked to absolute perfection. The main entrees my husband and I had were delicious. If you don't get steak, you're missing out. I had foie gras and it melted in my mouth. We chose this place to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary while also traveling for a work trip and so glad that we did!
Exceptional service - extremely friendly and professional. Perfect sauces and spot on timing. Great anticipation of guest needs. Amazing homemade dessert. Excellent value for quality. Highly, highly recommend.
The food was excellent but the waitress was awful. We paid 500dollars and got treated like dirt. This waitress was so friendly to other customers but treated my children and I with contempt. Was aware she was talking about us to another waiter and she was not friendly or helpful. If I go back definitely changing tables if she comes anywhere near me again. Disgusting service. Good service is the clincher to a good experience. Bad service stays with you, it's difficult to get over. The food did not make up for the appalling treatment.
Delicious meal and great service. They are a little over priced compared to other steakhouses. You are paying a premium for the experience.
Good food and drinks, staff is very knowledgeable and friendly! They are known for steaks, but you should try out their amazing desserts, it’s to die for ????????
Absolutely stunning house. They gave a presentation tableside to show the different cuts of meat available on the menu, and a detailed explanation of the menu items. The service was amazing, our server was very friendly and helpful. As a person who has always said I don't like beef, I would 100% go back for that beef tenderloin. ????
We were celebrating our first anniversary and decided to splurge and go to 529. The restaurant was very impressive in appearance and our waiter was very personable and knowledgeable although slow in service. We received water and a very thorough explanation of the various cuts of meat and preparation. He then left us without taking our drink orders. Another group came in after us and received their drinks immediately. Finally after what seemed like 1/2 an hour my husband called our waiter over and asked if we could order our drinks. He graciously took our order and went away. He brought our drinks and then took our order. We ordered the giant shrimp and chicken liver pate for appies. One giant shrimp was large and one average size and the liver pate was very thick and heavy, not soft and creamy like it should be. We ordered the Prime Rib and it was OK, nothing outstanding. The asparagus was undercooked and the mashed potatoes were again, OK. The best part of the entree was the Yorkshire pudding. We mentioned twice that it was our anniversary, once on the phone when we made the reservation and again to the hostess. It was a waste of time. Unlike other restaurants where a complimentary dessert is served or a flower for the bride, expect nothing. The waiter wasn't even aware it was our anniversary until we mentioned it when we asked him to take our picture. All in all an OK but disappointing experience. Finally a small observation and critique for management to look at. If this is to be considered a top notch, high end restaurant, the requirements for the Hostess should be slightly higher as she is the first introduction to clients as they enter the restaurant. She needs to smile more when greeting and in the presence of clients. Her dress although cute and appropriate for lunch service should be a little more formal and upscale for dinner service. It does make a difference in the atmosphere your are trying to create for your customers.
Just had Holiday Lunch here with my department from work. Awesome food and amazing service. Salad (Beefsteak Tomato...) main course (Blackened Chicken....) and cheesecake for dessert (see attached photo of menu our department had to chose from). Most definitely would eat here again
Service
Great place for business lunch. It is old school classic. It is an old mansion converted to a steakhouse restaurant on the renowned Wellington Crescent. It has had a great reputation for higher end dining. It continues to own this prestigous reputation. Our hostess and server were professional and friendly. Our server Rod was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our meeting in this grand dame establishment. Our meals were more than enjoyable. We had classic meatloaf and beef sandwiches with spinach salad and the daily soup. Our dining room was busy but were able to conduct business privately and properly. Located close to downtown and lots of free parking. Excellent wine menu. Go for lunch and you'll be back for dinner.
Service
Wow. The meat was perfect. The seafood trio was perfectly sized to go with the tenderloin. The only thing I did not like was the shareable sides. I wanted my own sides. But other than that, amazing. Food -fabulous. Drinks- not to strong, not to weak. Wine- so freaking good. I have no idea what I drank though, one glass of rum and Pepsi and one glass of white. Also because of the holidays, it was packed! We had a private room for our party, so we were not crowded. All in all. Amazing.
We have been here several times and have have always been amazed at the quality and service. This is a place where you definitely get what you pay for
Dinner
This restaurant is worth all of the hype it gets. We do all of our family birthday dinners here and will continue to. Great portions for the price. Always a great dining experience.
Had hear a lot of hype and how expensive it was to eat here. We went for our first time this past weekend and were not disappointed at all. Very large servings, amazing food and service. The place is beautiful as well. This place is worth the hype and the prices are very good. Especially compared to chain restaurants. I would highly recommend 529 Wellington.

My first time and considering the circumstances I must say I was impressed. I wish I had a chance to have a tour of the whole place.... architecture, details, atmosphere, staff were excellent. I must say for the magnitude of such mansion, lacked a bit of that European finesse!!!! Tableware should definitely match that era of the building.... I would definitely go back and recommend this place to anyone that appreciates class!
There's some truth to "you get what you pay for". And at 529 you pay alot but you get alot. One of our steaks was served overcooked, they took it right back and made a new one perfectly as ordered. The serving staff were not only helpful but delightful as they assisted us. The quality and flavor of the food was excellent.
I was skeptical I'll admit. Can a restaurant be that good? Really? Short answer: YES. The food, service, and atmosphere were all beyond anything I've ever experienced. I had the 14oz rib eye plus an assortment of appetizers and sides (beets in brown sugar and truffle oil were fantastic) plus the lava cake for dessert. Easily the best meal I've ever had.
Went here 3 times in December and all times were excellent. Took.our niece and nephew, first time for them. They are a young couple and loved it. We had onion ring tower entree and dessert and cocktails and wine. Really treated well. Definitely will come back. Came back again for my husbands birthday in March and had a wonderful lunch and free birthday dessert. We sat in the lounge and it was very cozy and waiter /.bartender very attentive. Went today for my 70th birthday. Sat in the lounge and very comfy. Got a comp dessert for 2 and a birthday candle. Really elegant and pretty decorated for Xmas. Went today for my husband 80th birthday. A beautiful lunch in the lounge. Complimentary cheese cake for birthday treat. The waiters were amazing and very helpful. Food was delish as usual. Went today for my birthday lunch. Sat in the lounge and very comfy. The server was extremely helpful. The meal was delicious . A comp glass of dessert wine. Another great pre xmas lunch today. Went for our 49th anniversary for lunch. Had a super lunch. Waiter and staff very nice. Had a comp dessert wine for our anniversary. Sat in lounge. Like it in their and very cozy
A bit of a mixed bag. Was recommended a decently priced bottle of wine, but my martini was small and frankly not very good for $16. Had quite a spiel on how good the beef was but I found my ribeye to be closer to a New York strip, And dry. It's the type of steak for people who don't like steak, i.e. no fat whatsoever hence very little taste. Service was a bit patchy, deserts okay but not exceptional. I'd really expect more for the price point. Having said that it was set in a great location outside.
October 6th, 5pm. Our First time at 529 to celebrate our 12 year wedding anniversary. We were excited to try this place. Atmosphere was awesome. My wife ordered prime rib and loved it. I had rib eye steak and i was disappointed. I think Steak was a bit over seared, dry And no taste. It didnt look like medium rare. I had to ask our server if it was medium rare. Other than that? It was ok. Would i try it again? Maybe. Emailed without response.
We had never been to this restaurant and decided to try it out. We were pleased with the atmosphere and the attentiveness of our waiter. We were relaxed and felt comfortable. At first I was wary since I’m not a ritzy person but the down to earth countenance of our waiter was welcoming. He seemed to read that we were not stuffy people. The food was fantastic and the portions were surprisingly large. We will return. I wish I remembered the waiters name but our bill said his # was 1012.
529 steakhouse is the fanciest nicest most expensive restaurant in Winnipeg. Everything about this place is upper class. It’s the best wait staff and you’ll really feel taken care of as soon as you walk in the door. The wine menu is bigger then the dinner menu , there is a huge selection here of alcohol it’s intimidating! I took my girlfriend here to celebrate her birthday and I had been telling her I would take her here for a long time anyway, we shared a steak and a beef Wellington. The waiter asked us if we wanted to split the two meals on two plates since we were sharing which was really nice !! The food was 10/10. Best steak I’ve ever had and the beef Wellington was amazing. Basically melts in your mouth It’s 100 dollars a person so I can’t afford to come back right away but on a very special night I will be back!!!
Beautiful building and wonderful staff, the service really was impeccable. Lovely settings and location. It's a great venue for special events. I've been to a few fundraising events held here and those were all lovely. Sadly the restaurant no longer lives up to its prestige though. The food doesn't hit the mark for how upscale the place is supposed to be. The sides in particular were quite disappointing. Prices are high relative to quality,
Excellent steak and service. I came for my wife's birthday and I had personally never eaten here before, so it was nice to see the waiter bring out, show and explain all the different cuts. My wife has a milk alergy and they respected that and took care of her. All the food was excellent and the steak was one of the best I have eaten and the service was great. We will go again.
An excellent meal but disappointed in the mushrooms that day. Others in our party had, had them before and raved of them were similarly disappointed.

My first time at this establishment, it was a birthday dinner. I can tell you that it definitely won't be my last. The food definitely tickles the palate, and the quality delectable. Presentation was top notch, and the service impeccable without being overbearing. It was just truly an enjoyable experience. ???? Thank you 529!
Me and my Husband went here for dinner and we both ordered a steak. The steaks came out exactly like we wanted them I was very impressed with the atmosphere and the service. I will definitely go back
Best place for you to celebrate ???? Birthday ???? or any other occasion little bit expensive but worth it
I would rather not go here. It was not terrible but I found the atmosphere to be stuffy and I don't like that they bring out all the cuts of beef and brag about them? Like I'm already here? You dont need to continue to advertise to me about how good your food is? I just don't understand the point of that. People just want to order and eat, not get a lesson in beef whatever
I Love the 529 Steak with Seafood Trio and the scalops they served. The wine is amazing and the ambiance in this restaurant is a real five star rate! Tres Bien!
Food is great, servers are great, prices are high and place looks not renovated for many many years
Their steaks have always been good. The atmosphere is pleasant and not too loud, as there are only a few tables situated in each room. Tables are ready when reserved, they don’t make you wait. Pricey of course.
Absolutely delicious meal. The French onion soup is perfect
Amazing patio with great food and service!
Service
I’ve probably been here at least thirty times, and I have never left disappointed. It’s one of the best restaurants in the city, and definitely also one of my favourites. They serve excellent food, and they are also very consistent. The service I’ve received has also always been fantastic. It is definitely not a cheap place to go to, but the whole experience is worth the price. For dessert, I highly recommend the bread pudding!
I'd give it more stars if I had the option to. We were absolutely spoiled by our server: Tommy. Absolutely fantastic service. Tommy went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable with his deep knowledge of the menu and meats mixed with his absolutely terrific sense of humor. We felt that he helped make this a perfect evening. Thanks to Tommy and all the masterminds in the kitchen who prepared our meal. This was a fantastic experience. Best steak I have ever had in my life. Just, wow. Thanks everyone!
Well, always like driving up to this place. Great building, terrific atmosphere. Most Recently I ate in the lounge. Different feel in Covid times but still nice and relaxed. Staff, as always is punctual and welcoming. Some staff more personable than others. Of course with the setting and prices your expectations are high and somewhat met. To start, the booze is always good, the drinks I ordered were made correctly and the ability to listen to a customer and figure out what their fancy is at the time is excellent. This time we did only apps, no one was interested in a big heavy meal. Well, one at our table did it, they ordered a French onion soup! Broth was nice, bread was toasted and a finer grain than should have been used instead of being day old chewy baguette so the bread didn’t really stay together correctly and it lacked enough cheese to eat completely and we only ate half the broth served. Nice flavour overall, just stingy with the cheese. Next came shucked oysters and some type of deep fried rib. The oysters were the smallest I had ever seen but the taste was true. The condiments served were very flavourful and well prepared. The ribs were ok, generic, deep fried, could have been better if pan fried or even a upgrade to a pork belly rasher, more upscale-more authentic. After the ribs came some type of little slices beef on a Yorkshire bun. Let’s just say not really a Yorkshire bun but good try. I must say the gravy was good not great( should have been a beef au jus) but was the best part. The beef was of course well done, thinly slice as expected but it was rubbery and a little tough. You would think that being known as a beef restaurant it would have been melt in your mouth and succulent. Hmmm. Next I think it was the tuna tartar. Very mild app, accompanied by some little toasted white bread triangles and a extremely mild wasabi mayo, so mild in fact it has no taste but that of oil and egg. Well, not the best composed dish I’ve had, very very very mild. But it is after all raw tuna with a vinaigrette, hard to screw up. A serving of scallops showed up next, well let’s just say 3 itty-bitty scallops showed up. Hahaha. The smell of pan fried scallops always makes my mouth water. The waiter forewarned me the size of each scallop was a little small so they added an extra. Scallops can be a challenging food to serve correctly and yes, this restaurant didn’t make the challenge. What could have been a nice prosciutto wrapped scallop turned out to be a way over cooked piece of rubber wrapped by a leathery piece of something that once had been a delicate piece of Prosciutto ham. Yep, way over cooked and burnt on the bottom. I am sure when the chef configured the menu he had a much different vision, or at least I hope so. Just when I thought we were done a little plate of cheese topped mash potatoes showed. Can’t go wrong with potatoes, cheese and plenty of butter, well, it was delicious. Well mashed, not starchy with plenty of cheese and flavour. Lastly, desert showed up. Lava cake. Nice, Have had worse. Vanilla bean ice cream was flavourful, nice. Overall go for the grandeur of the establishment, to kick back and enjoy the company of your family or friends. As long as you don’t have high expectations of the quality of food your being served you’ll have a great night. Way better executed, more flavourful, food options out there. But that’s only my opinion.
Fantastic service from Alan. Had the Tuna Tartar, Onion Ring Tower, Lobster Biske, and the Beef Wellington which was the special and off menu. Everything was better than imagined. Tuna Tartare was very fresh and did not disappoint. Onion rings were the widest rings I have ever seen. The Lobster biske was super creamy and filling. Im sure if youve made it this far youre wondering about the Beef Wellington, it was fastastic. The cut of meat was perfect. The pastry that surrounds the juicy tender beef was fluffy and warm. Just like how a blanket should be. The Au Jus complimented the dish well if you like to mix it up a bit. This was my first time here and definitely not my last.
I have been here four times now and all experiences have been superb. I enjoyed the quality information about the food we were offered by the waiter. He seemed very knowledgable and he had a great attitude. Service was excellent and my steak was cooked perfectly. Very beautiful place. Would definitely go here again, whether it be with friends or on a date.

Best dry ribs in the Peg, and service and staff is amazing ????
A faultless experience for diners looking for retro steakhouse charm with William Morris style decor. Attentive, accomplished service, top notch steaks with lashings of beautifully grilled seafood and a solid wine list. Let's work shoulder to shoulder to knock the onion ring tower off the list of must have appetizers, but apart from that, don't change a thing.
Such a beautiful building with lots of character. The atmosphere was great. Lovely staff whom are very professional and accommodating. Steaks were perfect, though the sides menu and over quality of could be improved.
My wife and her sister, who is visiting from Calgary had a very nice lunch on July 31 to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. The service and staff were excellent. The weather was ideal and it allowed us to take pictures outside. We plan to go back soon.
Top notch service. The food was delicious. My steak's temperature was spot on and tender. The sides are generous portions, enough for 3 people to share. You get value for your money.
This was my first time eating in a restaurant of this caliber so I may be a bit overly impressed by the ambiance of this place but regardless, it was spectacular! The service was incredible, from the hostess at the door, to the waiter who served us, I have no complaints. The food was divine, albeit a smidge expensive for my taste, but the ingredients used for each dish are top quality and the menu is extraordinary. I ordered a steak with king crab and the lobster bisque as an appetizer. One thing I will say is their lobster is cooked beautifully. I have always had a very hard time finding lobster that's cooked properly and this place is it! I was very impressed by that. Our friends ordered the oysters as an appetizer and the steak with foie gras and they also had no complaints. All in all I obviously do recommend this restaurant, as long as your wallet can take the hit! ????
A lovely restaurant with great service. It’s high-priced but worth it. Very expensive but not over-priced. Good food should be paid for properly. It’s so great that Winnipeg has a beautiful place like this. Order the onion-ring tower for sure! And a salad —and basically alllll the sides, which are generously apportioned. My only complaint: the lobster tank in the hallway. It’s just sad. It’s bare and it’s in a stressful place for them. I’m aware that they’re going to be eaten, but their living conditions shouldn’t be poor and out in the open like that. Anyway — thank you to 529 for being accommodating to vegetarians and for giving my dad a happy 80th-birthday experience.
Service was so amazing! On the pricey side, but it is fine dining soo; also you can look up the menu before going so the prices shouldn't really be a surprise, and the quality is great. The staff make the experience really unforgettable and the food was also superb!
Steak was ok, not exceptional. Sides were excellent, however.
The service, along with the understanding of the wine list was superb. I had the small filet and it was fabulous.
Had the porterhouse rare which was over seared and tasted of char. I imagine when the patio dining is open in the back and it's summer (with no pandemic restrictions) this place would be a nice overall dining experience with the setting. Went to a number of steakhouses around the country, bottom of the list for me.
Always an exceptional experience. Great chance to enjoy AB beef prepared how it should be when you find yourself in WPG.
What a fabulous restaurant and dining experience. If you love steak you have to go to 529. By far the best steak in the city. The service is second to none. Highly recommended.
We took my dear auntie for supper on her eighteenth birthday~experience is truly awesome from appetizers to desserts. The organic spinach salad is tasty. The wild salmon entree is delicious. All sides are a la carte. We all had homemade icecream for desserts. The strawberry flavor is just like eating fresh berries. Our server extremely knowledgeable of the menu foods, patient and great sense of humor. I'm a slow eater that savers the food experience. Well worth the costs for a special occasion. Lots of fun☺.
Service
My husband and I have eaten here twice to celebrate special occasions, and the experience was terrific both times. The servers are very knowledgeable and professional. The drink menu is extensive and features some delicious cocktails. All of our food tasted fresh, well seasoned and of high quality. Yes, it's pricey, but worth every penny for the quality of what you're eating. The dessert menu has many wonderful choices, so make sure you save room!
Absolutely delicious. Always has always will be the best restaurant in the city!
The food was beyond amazing, from the steak perfectly cooked, to the sides and the bread pudding was perfect. The wait staff was knowledgeable, professional.
I read that this was one of the top 10 wine restaurants in Canada. A couple of weeks later, my wife and I happened to be in Winnipeg for a wedding. While there, we had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful dining experience at 529 Wellington. Notice that there are no signs posted and if you are not familiar, you will drive past it at least once. Once inside, it is simply wonderful. The ambiance of the building lends itself to slow, quiet, romantic dinners. Michael was our server and made sure that everything was perfect. A couple glasses of champagne followed by two different types of wine, how could anything be bad??? It was such a great experience that we were back the following evening for an encore!
The best server, and the vintage theme of the entire. The food soo good, yes pricey for some things, but diffemtly well worth it. I will come back most certainly!
My boyfriend and I celebrated my birthday last night here at Wellington and they did not disappoint. It was the best experience! Our server did not only do an excellent job but he actually went the extra mile to make sure everything went perfectly. It was fun and the food was superb. You get what you pay for. Will definitely come back again! :)
This restaurant is the hallmark of premium dining in Winnipeg. Staff are the most gracious, efficient and genuine that I have encountered. The space is nostalgic, beautiful and centrally located in the city. Every experience has been outstanding - I cannot recommend 529 highly enough
We've been here several times. Our steaks are always done perfectly. The staff are very knowledgeable and check in often. Expensive, but worth it! Love the historic building as well.
Dinner tasted great and the food was out fast after our order. The only thing preventing a 5 star review was the dessert. We had the crème brûlée and it was overdone, to the point we didn't finish it . That said, we enjoyed our evening and the dinner. The restaurant was fairly quiet which made casual conversation easy.
Dinner
By far best restaurant in the city. Come here every anniversary and Christmas party for my wife's work. Had the 6oz tenderloin with seafood combo with lobster, scallops & shrimp as the main with onion ring tower, lobster mac and french onion soup as the apps. Everything was insanely good. Best service and most knowledgeable staff EVER. I think they personally know each cow they serve by first name almost lol. They know everything about their food. Highest quality available in Canada.
I had been there years ago and compared to that time this time felt like they're trying to appeal to the masses rather than giving the premium Steakhouse experience. For instance they used wheel a cart out with multiple cuts of meat and explain how each tastes. They also used to explain the aging process of the cuts they served. This time they only showed 5-6 cuts briefly and didn't talk about aged meats at all. I suspect their meats are now mechanically tenderized rather than aged. Don't get me wrong, the meal was still delicious, but for the amount we paid, I expected the real Steakhouse experience.
Serene patio set in lush greenery. Friendly, amazing, informative staff, I loved hearing about the history of the building. The food was cooked to perfection. Everything tasted divine. The coffee was perfect.
Wonderful experience with the sommelier and meat tour! Excellent dining and service!
Service was impeccable. Our server, Devin made sure we were taken care of. The food was amazing, definitely a once in a lifetime experience if you have never been. The pricing is high and should be expected. Although there is no dress code, you are kinda expected to dress nicely. Overall great place! 9/10
Only reason I'm giving a 2 star and not 1 is because our waiter was great and did his best. With reduced capacity due to covid, why were we seated right beside another couple in an otherwise empty room? When the waiter came he immediately apologized and re-seated us further apart at a much nicer table. What can I say about the food.....for the price it was absolutely terrible. My scallops came cold, very fishy tasting, and undercooked. Was completely mushy in the middle. The au gratin potatoes also arrived at the table cold. Rack of lamb, undercooked and yet again arrived to our table cold. Girlfriend's steak was requested medium well and came medium rare. This was my first and last visit to 529. It was inexcusable for a top dollar restaurant not to have top quality food. Was looking so forward to it and instead was completely disappointed. They at least removed the scallops from my bill but in my opinion they should have knocked the total in half for how bad the meal was. We would have easily had a better meal at The Keg or Chop or cooked the same items myself.
Always a great experience. Same great atmosphere, every time we have a different waiter/waitress. Hostess always smiling. When a chef comes to tell you what cut of meat is on the fly, they make it prepared to exactly how you want it.
Always a great meal and experience. This place lives up to the hype you hear about it. Can't wait to dine in again
For the price I think there's better places to go. Some parts of the meal were really good but other parts were average or worse. It's not as busy at lunchtime so that might be the time to go. Some of the steaks were quite good and others were overcooked and of all the times we've been there we've always had some food served cold. Last time our appetizers were served after our main course but we were a large group. The servers were great but the manager who dealt with some of the parties' issues was less than polite. The consensus is that its better for a table of 2 than a table of 20.
Best steak in town. Delicious food, great service, nice environment - their patio in the summer is beautiful! It’s pricey but worth the experience. Salad and sides are also amazing!
Meal type
Yet another amazing meal with incredible service. Thank you for maintaining such high standards!
It was, I think, the most expensive dinner I've ever had, but not the best one. Most of everything was good, but not exceptional. My fois gras was flavorless. Atmosphere is very nice but there were a ton of wasps on the patio. I don't think I'd go back. There's better food in this city for less.
529 Wellington is such an elegant restaurant to go to, the food is simply amazing and the service was extraordinary. We were a party of three and all had a variation of a steak/seafood dish. the steaks were done to perfection and the sides were very generous in portion size. The highlight was the maple creme brûlée it was delightful. The sommelier, Christopher was put to the test when I told him that I like a sweet rose, and he didn’t disappoint when he offered me the 2013 Chateau Les Pins Muscat, it was perfect for my taste in wine. This is a restaurant that I will attend again in the future for sure!
Absolutely fabulous. So incredible to dine out (indoors in a lovely space). Cuisine and service beyond expectation. Thank you for a most memorable evening.
Just an all around meh experience. We realized about an hour into our evening that our server never bothered to give us any complimentary bread, while every other table he served around us received some. Our Caesar salad was fairly bland, the marrow sauce was extremely bitter, and my wife's steak was overcooked. We barely saw our server other than when food was being delivered, and he didnt bother to ask if i wanted more when we took away my empty drink. All in all just a very poor experience. The service sure didnt make up for the inflated prices. Weve had much better meals at steak houses that charge half the price.
My husband and I went to 529 Wellington for anniversary. We walked in and greeted by the friendly staff. The setting of the restaurant was clean, elegant and well-kept. The service by our server Tommy was fantastic. He did not rush us, he provided information on the menu and different styles and cuts of steak; as well as, wine selections. The food, in terms of, presentation, taste and portions was exceptional. We tried the Mac & Cheese with lobster and aparagus, this complimented our steaks we had chosen and tasted great. The steak was cooked so well, it literally melted like butter in your mouth and the seasoning was perfect! The dessert was decadent and delicious. Overall, best experience and worth the price! I recommend this restaurant to anyone to visit for special occasions.
Great, but at those prices it’ll be a few years before I’m back. Maybe I’ll go back for the onion rings at lunch because those were awesome and didn’t break the bank
A high end old school steakhouse in the heart of Winnipeg. My colleagues and I went to this steakhouse for a business meeting. Order: Onion ring tower, french onion soup, seafood bisque, T- bone, bone in Rib eye, roast chicken (one of my colleagues cannot eat beef due to religious reasons but he was gracious enough to join us here), roasted brussels sprouts as a side, fries, and spinach. We also had the bearnaise, peppercorn and marrow sauce. We also had a bunch of cocktails and drinks. Location: 5/5 A very nice location, ample parking lot, easy to find. Service: 5/5. Despite 2 hour sitting, they allowed us to stay longer and was very accommodating. The service was splendid as I would expect from a finer dining establishment. Taste: 4/5 - French onion soup was great, among the better ones i've had. I heard the seafood bisque was very rich and creamy. The onion ring tower is definitely a must try if you are going there for the first time. It was for some of my colleagues. I've been here a few times, but I always order them. Donut sized onion rings. I frequent a lot of steakhouses but this method of presentation is definitely unique. I wish the steaks were seasoned a bit more but the side of salts do help. Perfectly charred and cooked. Definitely the best in Winnipeg. Rating out of 10, I'd give the T bone a 7.8, the rib steak 8.1. The brussels sprouts were tasty with the bacon in it. Spinach was very mediocre unfortunately. My friend said that the chicken was good. Fries were a bit of a disappointment. Very standard and lack lustre. Value - 5/5. High end steakhouse with very reasonable prices for prime grade meat. Not the cheapest meal but for a high end steakhouse their prices are actually quite inexpensive relative to other equivalent places. Overall 5/5- I will give this place a 5 star rating because of the experience. It is a perfect place to take business colleagues, friends, family, and even a romantic date (probably not the first date). I even come here as a casual dinner. I like this steakhouse, definitely the best in Winnipeg. I am critical of steaks but they are very good steaks.
Incredible food, service, ambiance. Perfection!
I had never been, feel like I might have been more excited about the thought of 529 than the actual. Food was good, but not for the price. The atmosphere is similar. It's neat but I wouldn't be in a rush to head back. Service was very good, probably the best part of the experience.
We had an amazing retirement party on the patio. The surroundings were fantastic. Our servers were absolutely first rate! And the food was incredible. (And it was sure nice to be able to go out for dinner again)
Absolutely brilliant experience!! Service was impeccable, and the food was absolutely perfect!!
Winnipeg finest place to dine! The service is excellent and the food is without equal. It's also great to see a high end restaurant re purpose this amazing mansion rather then build a new modern building. A must try if you are local or visiting.
Honestly, it's underwhelming. If you're going to charge me those prices, deliver something extraordinary. My spinach salad was definitely mailed in. Spinach leaves? Some candied almonds and some cheese, better offerings in the bagged salad section at Safeway. Wasn't my first rodeo, I should have known better.
Nothing special with the food. My shrimp tasted undercooked in the middle and for my steak I asked for medium well and got rare inside- asked for it taken back and cooked longer, it came back the same ... just with a bloody taste. If we’re paying hundreds of dollars for our meals I expect it perfect. Otherwise I would’ve went to moxies.
Great food for lunch! Had a delicious steakhouse burger. The dijon mustard is a little strong but overall great experience. Onion tower and mini Yorkshires were also quite good
Ancient decoration and epic service. Food is amazing
This was my first time here. All I can say is wow! The facility is amazing! The service was impeccable. The meal was cooked to perfection! It was a very memorable evening. If you are looking for an amazing dining experience this is the place to go. If you want to to enjoy alcoholic beverages with your meal be prepared to spend some money but the experience is well worth it!
Dine in
My husband and I decided to splurge for date night and we were not disappointed! We both ordered French Onion Soup to start. The broth was so flavourful, there was a perfect amount of cheese and the port on top really kicked it up a notch. For the main course, we both ordered beef tenderloin (I ordered an 8oz while my husband had the 12oz) and shared the mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were perfect; not a lump, buttery and smooth. The beef tenderloin was cooked a beautiful medium rare and practically melted in our mouths. The service was great; all the staff were friendly, our empty dishes were cleared promptly and our server was kind, respectful and attended to our table in a timely manor. Big bonus for not having to wait a long time for our food. Great experience!
Fantastic food, best beef tenderloin I have ever had. The dessert is the lemon tart, and it's amazing. If you get the chance to go here, it's worth the price.
I dined here for the first time with my boyfriend for our anniversary and it was wonderful. Our waiter was pleasant when giving us the beef lesson as well as when serving us. I was surprised at the price of our meal; I expected it to be more because of the quality and how delicious it was. I definitely would love to go there again soon. It was a nice little romantic place. Besides the people that were drunk at a table behind us, I had a lot of fun! Will be eating here again for sure!
Amazing dinner! Service was great and very attentive. Our steaks were to die for. Overall it was a great meal and we will be going back. This restaurant is a real treat for a special event. I heard the patio is amazing in summer.
Amazing night out with family! Everything was delicious and service was fantastic
Amazing place. Perfect for special occasions. Service could not have been better and food was excellent.
Best restaurant in the city. Always great service, amazing food and a great atmosphere. As good as it gets in Winnipeg. Recommended!
Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with a group of friends at 529 recently and had a wonderful time. The food was awesome and well presented; the selected wines proved excellent pairings with everyone's chosen meal and the service second to none. All in all we had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to make return visits for future special occasions.
I've been here many times. It's always been great and never let me down. In fact I've had the best meal of my life here
Went here in 2019 with my teammates and loved the selection of fresh steak and sides. If youre considering this restaurant, go!
No place like 529. Very professional and the food is AMAZING. Loved the experience!
Exceptional food and service Definitely a one of a kind dining experience in Winnipeg
Love the place. Pricy but the price is so worth it. 3 tables or so per room makes it semi private experience .
Excellent steakhouse that services only the best Canada prime meats. Steak came as ordered and cooked to perfection. The waiter gave us an intro to all the different meats before we ordered and told us about the history of the house as well. Amazing dinner experience in a historic location. The desserts were excellent too.
Had a great dinner for a special occasion and was very pleased with everything. We had 10oz new York that was cooked to perfection and was lightly seasoned. And a 8oz tenderloin that was also perfectly done. Our side was broccoli. We were seated in a lovely room over looking a nice yard. Service was very attentive and filled any request. If you are having a special occasion I would recommend making a reservation for the day!
