its not just the book that i judge this cover. AWESOMENESS!
Great service and great wine!
Fun tasting. Beautiful sculptures around garden for walking. Very kind, helpful staff. We had jessi! She was so helpful. Enjoyed our visit. Parking is free. You check in at the lower lot and drive up and park at the upper lot where the tasting occurs. Seating is available inside and outside. They have some bar seats that overlook some beautiful views of the vineyards and valley. They have some picnic tables around the grounds with some metal sculptures. Wines were all different and some were delicious. Overall great visit!
Our host claimed that Rombauer has the best view and location which turned out be true. Although Napa from any corner looks charming but Rombauer vineyards have a beautiful garden from where you can enjoy both wine and vineyards. The service is absolutely great. Our host was very interactive that we lost track of time and we truly enjoyed the conversation with their amazing wine. The tasting room is small and there is no seating. Social distancing can be a concern. After tasting you can buy wine by the glass or bottle and sit in their beautiful garden and spend as much time as you please. There have valet parking so that’s sorted. It’s a pretty busy winery so you might wanna make reservations. We were almost 20-30 mins late and yet they accommodated us without any concerns. Definitely recommend a visit.
A small group of us visited this picturesque winery in Sonoma Valley yesterday and were very well-treated there despite there being no available room for a formal wine-tasting. Falynn was so knowledgeable and accommodating as we selected a few tastes from the numerous varietals offered. Her customer service skills are only surpassed by her knowledge of the product she seeks to share with the wine denizens walking through her door. The Chardonnay IS is good as people say it is! Plus, it was a delight to discover that the family of owners are the same Rombauers who originally wrote and updated numerous successive editions of a cornerstone cooking tome, the Joy of Cooking. All around a great trip and we’re all looking forward to the next opportunity to visit.
Rombauer makes incredible wines, and a visit to the winery is a true experience. My wife and I HIGHLY recommend it!
Always gracious and welcoming. Being in the industry, I'm always looking for "what sets them apart". Today, Sunday, was perfect customer service. Thank you!
Hospitality upon arrival is first class indicating a memorable wine experience awaits. Wines offered include the favorite Chardonnay make sure to try their Private Reserve Chardonnay amongst many other delicious veritials. The benefit of visiting the winery is to experience the wine in its most natural form. A bucket list must do experience
Some of the best wines!
Patty & Jennifer are awesome! They completely accommodated my gf & I. I had a terrific time here! Get them if you can!!!
Always a great visit. Beautiful garden, views and incredible wine
Rombauer is amazing. Actually beyond amazing when you consider the service. A gentleman but the name of Ed helped me. Truthfully they have the best Zins in the area and becoming a wine club member is a huge savings and a treat. They truly treat you like a family member.. Which is impressive.
The garden and view here are gorgeous! The wine here is fantastic as well! Looking forward to when they open up the cave tour as well!
Beautiful winery with beautiful wines to enjoy; a must stop in wine country!
The Fiddletown Zin is excellent
Incredible white and red wines compliment a stunning view of the valley!
Excellent chardonnay and breath-taking views of the valley.
A rather long drive from Mill Valley, north of San Francisco in May of 2013, but looking forward to tasting my favorite of all California chardonnays. They had none, only reds, to my disbelief. Missed stops at many of the other fine vineyards on the Silverado Trail to be terribly disappointed. How can a vineyard so well known for its superb product have none??? Never imagined I'd need to verify their inventory, what a waste of a day, thanks Rombauer!
The most gorgeous views & grounds with the most affordable wine tasting and knowledgeable staff
One of the best winery’s with absolutely incredible wine, customer service and the atmosphere is gorgeous!
Very limited parking, required to use their valet, small tasting room so reservations are necessary, beautiful grounds, the Chardonnay was nothing like I remembered it from years ago, not really buttery at all imho.
We have been traveling to Napa for years and this was definitely our most disappointing visit. Every winery offers a unique, quaint and special experience. This winery only offered a view. We were processed like a number and the staff acted very "corporate". We even had a wine club member in our group, but they definitely did not treat our group as such. The guy that processed our order was beyond rude. We have been enjoying Rombauer wines for years, but on principle, I will no longer give them my business. There are too many great cabs, vineyards and people in Napa to spend any time or money at Rombauer.
Hope someone from Rombauer reads these comments. A trip to Sonoma and Napa during the holidays would not have been complete without a visit to taste my favorite Rombauer Chardonnay. Made reservations, and $25 per person. Felt the entire experience to be nothing more than a rushed , uninspiring event. 10 minutes tops? Really? Don’t waste your time or money. So many other places, who really care about the guests who want to give back to the community after the fires!
Man, these are delicious wines!
Great wine, terrible logistics. Their logistics carrier returned two shipments, wine club membership shipments, after I had asked them to be held at the local office. I was not notified that they had been returned by the winery. I only found out about a missing shipment when they tried to charge my most recent shipment on an old card. The person that I spoke to was very pleasant, but could not offer any acceptable options, so I decided to cancel my wine club membership.
Great staff; Great owner; Great wine!!!!
Thank you Kevino and Emma for a fantastic afternoon, what a treat! And everyone was so sweet to the dogs, plus the gardens, butterflies, valley view and obviously wonderful wines. Can't wait to visit again soon!
Wonderful tour! Beautiful grounds. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Certainly a highlight of my Napa/Sonoma visit. Not to mention delicious wines! I can see a return visit in my future.
Had a great time
Ask for Karl for your tasting. He was worth 5 stars by himself. The wine is also a 5 star wine. So... 10 stars? Lol
We are here on our “minimoon” Christian gave us our tasting. He was very knowledgeable, kind and patient! The property and view is absolutely stunning!
Christian Diaz was a great host.
Such a wonderful place to visit! Christian was an amazing host! Very knowledgeable and friendly. He made our visit very memorable and personable. Had an amazing experience :)
Always enjoy our visits.
KEVIN-VINO great fun, views breathtaking & all wine varietals delicioso!
One of my favorite wines ever.
Meh. Wine very over rated and over priced. Good not great and $15 a glass? Nice view...
Great experience
The scenery and picnic tables nestled amongst the winery hillside is a beautiful place for a picnic. If you're bringing a picnic, get there early before lunch to snag a spot, as they go quickly. The wine is divine!!! The tasting experience is inside and, while full of information, feels a little rushed and not that relaxing of a venue.
I love the winery. The tasting room is small but they make up for it with an amazing view of the vineyards outside and an even better tasting experience with an experienced and well informed tasting guide. Our server was a delight to talk to and we really enjoyed the conversation. Good wine selection as well, although I wish they gave a lot more choices for wines instead of a set list.
Wine with a view! Quaint winery on a hill with a stunning view of the vineyards below. Sit out on the great patio or wander the garden.
What a great wine tasting experience.
I WISH THERE WERE MORE STARS,, THERE ISN'T ANYTHING LIKE IT, TOP TO BOTTOM, THE STAFF ALONE IS WELL WORTH THE TIME TO MEET,, VINO SPEAKS FOR ITSELF FABULOUS FAMILY STORY HOW THEY STARTED,, GO NOW FALL COLORS,,
Always a great place to visit. Wonderful wine, views and great customer service.
Very nice glad to see they survived the fire
This place is like dream.
Yesterday was my first trip to Napa since January so I was a little concerned it might be sterile and impersonal and not like wine tasting "used to be". But the Rombauer tasting room is very well set up for social distancing and all of the appropriate precautions without interfering with the experience. Rombauer was our second stop on a three winery itinerary. We are veterans of wine tasting but I must rave about the fabulous tasting experience my friends and I had with our host Kevin. Despite his mask and the requisite plexiglass shield at the tasting bar, Kevin was extremely personable and immediately connected with us. He was eager to learn where we were from and where we'd been that day. We happily discovered that he is close friends with the gentlemen that had just hosted us at another small Napa family owned winery. This added a very personal touch and by the time we left Kevin seemed like a longtime friend of ours too! Kevin was also very knowledgeable about the wines we tasted and happy to share information with me about the Certified Specialist of Wine program he's pursuing. Our visit was topped off by getting to meet Rombauer's Director of Distributor Relations and Education, Alan, who joined us and shared more information about the winery's current projects and plans and happily answered my questions about vintages and wine making. Our tasting flew by and we had to leave for our next stop of the day much sooner than I'd wished. Our experience at Rombauer contributed to a perfect day in Napa, which is still possible even in the era of Covid-19. Cheers to your delicious wine and outstanding team!
It's a great experience very friendly staff Great wine
Dan did a wonderful job letting us try some wines and telling us some stories while we were deciding which of the delicious bottles to take home - really recommend coming here for the views and great service.
This winery is one of the best in the world with the best technology and a beautiful team, it is an almost perfect company, here they know how to value everyone's time and they are very neat and constant in their products
First time, beautiful gardens, great tasting experience ,interesting family and history.Fabulous view and the SAUVIGNON BLANC was amazing. Definitely a return place❤????
Many feel Rombauer's chardonnay is their crowning achievement, but while it is exceptional, their Napa Valley Zinfandel is like opening a bottle of paradise for those who enjoy Zin as we do. The grounds at the vineyard are beautiful, with meandering paths, picnic tables, and interesting artwork scattered about. And the view of Napa Valley from the veranda is breath-taking.
Wonderful place to experience wine with the effect wine glasses play on them
Outstanding wine , Highly recommend
Great view, great picnic area
Yummy Chard and Zinn. Go explore, but I'll bet you'll come back - just a hunch. ????
First winery visited of the New Year 2018, 9th overall of our Napa stay. I know this won’t be the norm for 99% of the people visiting this winery but it’s my story so you may or may not want to keep on reading: I have a friend, Dr. Carlos Wolf, who is a friend of Mr. K.R Rombauer III. So we were very well recommended to him for a personal and private tasting with K.R himself. We were set for 10:30AM but since this was New Year’s Day we couldn’t make it on time, no problem. We arrived around 11:15AM, we entered the tasting room and there he was. A couple was there too which was unexpected but made it more fun since we were able to chat and share opinions. We tasted so many wines that I have to go and take a look at the pictures to be able to name them: 2016 Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc (4) 2016 Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay (3.5) 2016 Rombauer Home Ranch Chardonnay (4.5) 2016 Rombauer Bushli Station Chardonnay (4) 2016 Rombauer Proprietor Selection Chardonnay (5+) 2014 Rombauer Napa Valley Merlot (4) 2013 Rombauer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Rombauer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 Rombauer Diamond Selection Cabernet Sauvignon (4.5) 2014 Rombauer Napa Valley “Stice Lane” Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Rombauer Napa Valley “Atlas Peak” Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Rombauer Zinfandel 2015 Rombauer Amador County’s “Fiddletown” Zinfandel 2015 Rombauer Sierra Foothills Proprietor Selection Zinfandel (5) 1981 Duckhorn Three Palms Merlot (it was fun) 2014 Duckhorn Three Palms Merlot (Wine of the Year by WS) NV Rombauer Napa Valley Zinfandel Port (5) 2015 Rombauer Joy Late Harvest Chardonnay In parenthesis are the ones I recalled was able to rate in a too narrow 5 points scale. One quick conclusion, If you want to save time and go for the good stuff just pick anything you like that says “Proprietor Selection”, whether it’s a Chardonnay, Cabernet, or Zinfandel when they mark it as Proprietor Selection its the real good stuff that goes into that bottle! Obviously taste matters and this is a very subjective and individual thing. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to wine & food. We ended up buying the 2016 Proprietor Selection Chard, and 2007 Diamond Selection Cabernet. We had our next appointment at Alpha Omega in just 30 minutes, so K.R rushed us out to go and eat something, he gave us the address to the closest place on the way and didn’t charge us anything, he said “I will call you when you get home to settle up” and to this day, I’m still waiting to pay, I have called him, texted him and it seems he doesn’t want to charge - I may have to take off a few stars for this bad costumer services!!! ;-) Obviously kidding, haha! Here are my ratings to all visited wineries in alphabetical order, for details on each one look for my reviews: Services – Quality of Wine – Overall Alpha Omega 5 5 5 Darioush 5 5 5 Duckhorn 1 3 2 Hendry Vineyard 5 4 4 Joseph Phelps 5 5 5+ Merryvale 5 4 5 Merus 5 5 5+ Ovid 5 5 5 Paraduxx 4 3 4 Rombauer 5 4 5+ Silver Oak 5 4 5 Resuming, K.R is a very humble person, he takes care of every detail, and he even gave us advice about what to do next on our trip, where to eat and where to stay. I was impressed with the quality of most of these wines, a few years ago I tasted a Rombauer Merlot and remember it was OK, but now that I was able to try almost the whole lineup in a very calm-close environment I felt “The Joy of Wine”.
Excellent winery! We were lucky enough to be helped out by Dan at the counter. He was incredibly friendly, explaining all of the history and providing a wonderful tasting experience. We ended up picking up a few bottles with great pleasure. Lovely winery with beautiful grounds, and fantastic service. Highly recommend!
Does not have big signage so you just my drive by and miss it. Rombauer was not one of our favorite places, nice vineyard, charges for two wine tasting packages. Bypass this place and head to the smaller more quaint vineyards like Truett & Hurst.
Great experience with Christian who introduced us to several of the wines. I didn't fall in love with any however hubby loved the cab Atlas. We enjoyed sitting in the porch with Sandy taking in the view.
Absolutely amazing! The zinfandel is the best in the valley, if you are into sweet and jammy.
Great place, great wines and great veiws
They know what they are doing here.
Great
These wines are impeccable, and the views even more so. The service was great, knew everything about the wines and company, and were very kind. These are very complex and delicious wines that you cannot find in similar style anywhere else.
I visited Rombauer with my parents with high expectations and we weren't disappointed! Karl Christensen led us through our tasting and showed us the wine cave. He was new in his role, but you never would have guessed it. He was incredibly personal and professional and really made our short time at Rombauer memorable. Thanks Karl!
Great tasting. Called and got us in last minute. Karl was the best host and really knows the wine! We loved it!!!
This was seriously my best visit in Napa. So happy we stopped here. They give you tastings by the glass or by the bottle, or you can experience their tasting room. We just bought bottles to share. All the wine was delicious and the view was to die for. So gorgeous!
Beautiful property with some of the best views of the valley. Garrick lead my group’s tasting and he was so engaging and knowledgable; we had a blast with him. The chardonnay is so buttery smooth and delicious.
Our host for a tasting was Garrick who was fantastic, just like the wines we tasted. The views are incredible and the tasting couldn't have been a better experience (except for covid rules which is just a universal pain in the ...)
Absolutely a delight! Great views, great wines, affordable tasting! Staff have been so hospitable and generous. Thank you, Kerry! You are a superstar! Thanks for providing us the best service by seeing to it that we weren't thirsty while we waited for our tasting!
Pickup a picnic at Dean & Delucca on the way. Share a tasting, buy a bottle, walk into the garden and enjoy. Always first on my list of stops!
They have the best Chardonnay (buttery), Urban Dictionary calls it the ladies version of crack for ladies. They love it and want more. It’s that good. The staff is friendly and we are members. We love coming back.
Our Joy of Wine Experience felt more like chatting with a friend about his biggest passion in life. He was funny and beyond knowledgeable. We enjoyed touring the caves and learning more about the Rombauer family, and the people they employ, who believe wine making is a labor of love. This is apparent in every glass of wine you taste. The cheese and wine pairing was not only educational, we felt like Thomas had invited us in his own home for a get together. We visited 14 years ago and fell in love with this vineyard for not only great wine but it’s sense of family. We were excited to see and hear that this culture is still embraced and apparent the moment you arrive.
I'm biased - I've been a club member here for years. The staff is friendly and the wines are beautiful. Don't. It's the chardonnay, diamond cab - or the Zinfandel with El Dorado / Amador grapes. Worth the trip.
Fab Chardonnay lovely Zinfandel love the cows!
Christian was amazing. He was incredibly knowledgeable and made our visit exceptional. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience at Rombauer. Thanks, Christian!!! Dina and Brian from St. Louis
Rombauer never disappoints. Definitely have to try the Chardonnay and Zin
My friends introduced me to this excellent winery. It's off of the Silverado Trail and nestled in the woods. I like the wood deck for gathering with your friends as you sip your wine. There's an art garden to stroll through. The tasting room itself is small and it's particularly busy. You'll be impressed by their reds.
We have been club members here for at least 8 years. We love this winery for the wines and the views. Great Zinfandel and Chardonnay;
Great tasting room set in the mountains of Napa. The view from the balcony is a must to see if you are nearby. Really enjoyed the wines as well.
All the wines are absolutely delicious.. Kevin is the Best of the Best, he made our experience awesome..Can't wait to return..????????????
Fly. Excellent wine, chill people, not pretentious, great price, lovely scenery. We went back and only had two days. Han Approved. @hansawakening
This is one of the jewels of Napa Valley. We absolutely love the Chardonnay and everything else they had was wonderful as well. The coolest part is the presentation that includes what type of notes you should taste in the wine. Highly recommend visiting.
We’ve been members at Rombauer for a little over a year. Love coming here and enjoying the outdoors. The pictures don’t do it justice. The Chardonnay is by far the best white wine here. Although the Cabernet Sauvignon library wines can’t compare. Don’t hesitate to make a reservation. The staff are wonderful and very professional.
Awesome winery with a variety of great wines! The staff is professional, knowledgeable and ease to talk with. I really enjoy the Fiddletown Zinfindel the best!
Disappointing. Crowded, rushed, and uninspired tasting experience. Buy the wine but skip the tasting. Far more interesting options out there.
Love the new Zinfandel!! Oh and the Chardonnay is yummy!!
The best wine & knowledgeable staff!
Karl was absolutely amazing. I’ve been to many wine tastings, and Karl was the best host I have ever had. He knows all the history of the valley and is so happy to share it with guest. Ask for Karl when you go!!!!
Every taste topped the last, a seemingly impossible feat! Truly beautiful property, and our host, Stephanie was GREAT!!!
Beautiful and stunning views! Nestled in the mountains which are breathtaking. They were busy this weekend after Thanksgiving. Good wines.
Very good wine in an exceptional setting. We had reservations and were seated at a beautiful picnic table with shade over looking the vineyard.
I've been a member here for years. I live the wine and that you can bring a picnic ro enjoy outside
This was our favorite winery that we visited! Excellent wine and a beautiful garden.
Great wine, great prices
This winery has some really beautiful views and the wine is very good. Highly recommend stopping here if you're in Napa.
Nice scenery good wines interesting cave cellar..
Great tasting! Will definitely go back!
Patti helped us with our tasting. Awesome views and great wine.
Excellent tasting
Amazing experience!
Lovely place and the glass is free
This was the most disappointing winery ever! We belong to several clubs and have tasted across the valley for years and I've never been so disappointed. We made a reservation over a month ago, arrived early, only to watch others get seated before us as we continued to wait. 45 minutes later...we left with no apology for wasting our time. Don't be fooled - you are just a number here. Nothing personal about it.
Known for their Chardonnay, wine tasting is $25, with the view and wine well worth it. They also have a picnic permit and you can enjoy lunch with a view after tasting.
Incredible winery! Dan was our tasting guy and he took great care of us! Fun to chat with and very knowledgeable. You really can’t beat this place in terms of price and the view. We ended up buying 3 bottles and we will definitely be back!
Great experience, beautiful view, gardens were nice, service was fabulous with Justin!
Awesome tasting! Walk the gardens, check out cave!
Rombauer is always a very special venue.... great Wines in a very intimate setting
(Translated) Beautiful place. Nice garden and tasty wines. (Original) Prachtige plaats. Mooie tuin en lekkere wijnen.
Super Nice ???? Winery
Thought it was going to be a bit more intimate tasting experience, but we ended up having a great time. Beautiful grounds and views from the hilltop tasting room. Appointment only.
Fabulous evening! Spectacular wine! The whole dining experience was truly a memoroble event!
Amazing as usual.
Really great zinfandel and amazing views!
Great Chardonnay!
Beautiful facilities, great wine and unbeatable service by Kerry who is the best wine host we've ever had!
Try the El Dorado. Bring food and enjoy the view. December and 70 degrees? Yes
This was my 2nd trip to Rombauer Vineyards! This is my favorite vineyard! I have been buying and enjoying Rombauer wines for years now. Funny enough, I have a friend named Scott Rombauer and although, I always thought it was funny that my favorite wine was also called Rombauer, I never thought that he was actually related to this family. However, a few years ago, I was visiting his mother in Florida and saw a framed "Rombauer Vineyards" sign. How cool! I asked them and they said that they are related distantly to this family. Well, at that point, I knew I had to visit! I had the opportunity a couple of years ago while I was there attending a wedding. It was indeed a magical place. The garden was spectacular! This time, I went with two of my friends and I told them all about the vineyard to the point where they were super excited to see it! It was literally our favorite day in Napa Valley. We met Christian Diaz, who facilitated our wine tasting. He was so nice and funny! Omg, I hope he runs his own vineyard one day. I would definitely visit it. Rombauer is lucky to have Christian. He embodies the spirit of good wine and charisma. I've attached some photos of our trip. We had such a special time here. My retirement plan includes working for Rombauer vineyard seasonally (the warm season) ha! I'm the one on the left. Rombauer Vineyards, I love you and I joined the wine club. Hopefully, I get to visit this beautiful place forever! xoxo -Kari from Vegas
Beautiful setting with a gorgeous view of the Napa Valley! Very nice and friendly staff. Chardonnay was excellent! So nice to bring your own food and pair with their wines!
Gorgeous Chardonnay
A little taste of heaven. .
The Best Zinfandel you never try before !!!
We decided to make a reservation for the wine tasting and cave tour. The winery grounds is beautiful and they have an amazing view from the porch - great photo opportunity. The cave tour was very informational and a neat experience. It was an intimate group experience with 6 of us. Our host was Christan and he was very knowledgeable and personable - our favorite host of the day to be honest. Following the tour we were led right past the cozy tasting room and upstairs to a private room with a beautiful view of the landscape and the set tasting - this was a nice personal and intimate touch. They're Sauvignon Blanc was delicious and I'm not typically a white fan, however I didn't care for the reds compared to the first tasting we had at another vineyard that in our opinion had amazingly delicious reds. I thought the tasting and tour was a bit pricey at $60 ($30 if just the tour) - I'm not sure if the wines and tour warrant such a price point. However, overall the service was great, the tour and tasting wonderful, the view amazing, and we enjoyed meeting awesome people.
Yes, I admit it I have been seduced by the Housewife Heroin (Chardonnay) that they produce here. Its the eason I came here originally a few years ago and why I returned. First of all the grounds of the place are amazing, simply gorgeous. You can bring a picnic and really enjoy the flowers and the ambiance of the grounds surrounding the tasting room. The wine well I can discuss the Mombauer (Chardonnay) but I think you will hear about that from other places. They do a wonderful job with their fiddeltown and their special reserves, which you need to do, so don;t be afraid to move over to the Red because they take it all up a notch here. Just time it right because when the ladies come pouring out of the limos and streaming in it can be a slight bit frightening.
beautiful view. Our host was rude. She was a swiss lady, not sure her name. She talked down to us the whole time and kept referencing that we were not members of the wine club. I would recommend more inclusive places such as mondavi, castillo, chandone
Beautiful views and great wines!
Our first visit to this Napa Valley stalwart. Kari made our visit absolutely amazing with her knowledge, hospitality and genuine desire to give us a memorable experience which is why we became members. Thank you again and can’t wait to see you next time!
Don't let my 3-star rating completely dissuade you; this is not a bad winery, it's just that it used to be BETTER. 1) The location, atop a hill in the upvalley region between St. Helena and Calistoga, is beautiful. They have a porch where you can sip your wines with a wonderful vista, as well as a little meandering garden that is nice to roam. 2) The wines are pretty good. They are known primarily for two varietals: chardonnay and zinfandel. I have always been particularly fond of their zin -- in fact, we joined their special "zin only" wine club just to receive a case of 12 zins every year in the winter. 3) HOWEVER, this newest vintage of zin (2015) is a disappointment. It used to be so rich, with a silky/velvety mouthfeel, perfect body, and incredible aromatics from the oak. That was true of both the 2013 and 2014 vintages. This newest vintage is a bit thin and biting, with a weird sort of slightly effervescent acidity, tartness, and alcohol heat not there in the past. Not a fan. :-( I regret buying a case of these Rombauer zins (and that's the first time I have ever said that in my life.) 4) Bigger problem is that the winery visit experience itself has gotten a little out of hand... as members, we used to be able to pop in (at least on a weekday) -- then they got too popular for their own good, and now reservations are a must (and actually not so easy to get!) The tasting room itself is quite bland and dated... still looks and feels like something from the late 70's, and is far too small to comfortably accommodate the groups of people they get there... so, it's pretty cramped during the tasting. On top of that, the pourers here seem pretty blase and apathetic about the experience... not a lot of pride or excitement going on. Feels a bit like a cattle call. They should probably set up a little tasting bar somewhere in the garden, which would be a beautiful location as well as relieving the crowds up at the main room and porch. So, we quit the club membership. I will probably give each new vintage of zin a try, and if it returns to the quality of the last couple of years (which was like nectar of the gods), I will stock up... But as it is... there ya go. There are just too many things that could be more enjoyable for me to go ahead and give this 3 stars (winery is still better than average for Napa Valley visits, so I was going to give them 4 stars, until I tasted the disappointing new vintage of zinfandel. It's hard to tell whether it is just the grapes/terroir or if winemaking process is to blame...)
Love Rombauer Winery and their Wines, especially the Zinfandels (Fiddletown) and Cabernet. The staff was friendly and very welcoming. The vineyard is picturesque.
My favorite vineyard and wine in the entire world!
Very nice vineyard. Family history awesome. The grounds were beautiful.
The vista, patio and garden walk are beautiful. Christian was beyond exceptional in taking us through the wines, the winery history and places to go in the area. I was with my mother who only drinks whites, and he made sure she was well taken care of while I enjoyed their reds. Definitely worth a stop, especially if Christian is your tasting guide!
Outstanding wines. Fantastic view of the valley floor through the trees. Such a relaxing spot to picnic or just to enjoy a glass of wine as opposed to bring inside the tasting room. A true all seasons place to relax.
What a change from the family winery I discovered years ago. The last visit i was told the road was closed and there was a detour. Reservations are now required to taste for all members. The tasting menu is set, no options or substitutions. I wanted to taste a wine i wanted to purchase and was told no. If i wanted to taste it, go and buy it. When i called about traffic, I was told if i was 15 minutes late, i would be considered a no show. This was at 12 noon and our first stop. I wanted to purchase with 2 credit cards and that was a problem. When we arrived up top, the parking lot was almost empty and they were not busy. It has become very corporate and rigid it seems. I miss the rombauer i discovered years ago. Wines are good, but the experience was a disappointment.
Great wines... great views... knowledgeable and friendly staff. Doesn't get much better than this!!
Exceptional
Great affordable wine. Nice fruity zins. Patio & gardens are beautiful with nice Vistas from the top. I miss the days before they started reservations & valet parking. If you just stop by to pick up your wine club shipment don't be surprised if all but one staff avoid eye contact & it takes 30min to pick up few bottles of wine you already own. (No we didn't make a reservation for something that should take 5min)
Fabulous setting and lovely wine - their candles are lovely too!
The tasting menu here is to die for.
Rombauer was one of the first wineries I ever visited after moving to Napa, and it's still one of my favorites years later. You might think of them as a larger brand, but really they are much smaller and more inviting than you'd ever imagine. The tasting room is a bit small, but intimate, and the wines are delicious. Like many others, I find their Chardonnay to be the measuring stick for others; it's buttery and creamy, and full of flavor. Another nice aspect of the winery is the beautiful grounds surrounding it. They have an extensive garden path that meanders through the woods. You can enjoy some great views from there, and the peaceful surroundings make it a great spot to come with a loved one.
Great value and great wine.
Unfortunately, we arrived too late for the wine tasting, but one of the guides, who was extremely nice and knowledgeable, offered us a sample of Rombauer's famous Zinfandel and I ended up purchasing a bottle. Simply delicious and the grounds are gorgeous. Would like to return and explore the area more, walk the trails, and, of course she, sample more wine!
We just bought a few bottles and sat at a picnic table in the lovely parc on the hill, very charming, stunning view on the valley
5 Star everything
Yesterday, I had an amazing experience at Rombauer with my new fiancée! Kevin was a fantastic host and I would highly recommend requesting him, but the entire staff was fantastic. They are welcoming and kind, making you feel as though you are part of the family, we will return every time we visit Napa! Best spot in the Valley and the wine is incredible!
