This place seems a little overrated to me. It is fantastic if you'd like to pay 18 dollars for a burnt hamburger and side of fries that were few & far between. Myself & 2 others in our party ordered the same main. The 3 of us had the same thoughts. The service was fine. You can grab a burger with a view elsewhere in downtown St. John's for a reasonable price. One of the local restaurants that will appreciate your business

Great place, great food and beers. Right on the harbour so you can watch the boat traffic while you eat. Food came fast and everyone was happy. Then I asked for the bill and had to wait 20 minutes while all the wait staff checked the week's receipts and gabbed. We were one of 3 tables full in the whole place by that point. No big deal when you are with friends but not cool with a five year old in tow. That came out of the tip.

My family and I went to Jack Astor's on Thursday, February 26th at around 5:30 p.m. of 2015. Upon arriving, we were promptly seated. We were given only adult menus. We waited for about 5 min before I was able to ask for kids menus. The waiter then brought us take out menus. I'm assuming that since they are geared towards families, they might have actual kids menus. We then waited another 15 min. before we were able to actually place our order. When placing our order, I asked for steamed veggies for my 9 month old. I asked that they were not seasoned with anything. When our food arrived, the veggies were not served. Since our waiter did not bring out the food, I had to wait for him to come back to us to ask for the veggies. My husband and other two children had already finished their meals by the time he arrived. I asked for the veggies and at this point my baby was screaming. He went to the back and was gone for about 5 min. At this point, I am realizing that they have forgotten the order. When he comes out, the veggies are hard and basically raw, carrots and broccoli. I am then told that they are unable to make the veggies soft because they weren't able to pan fry them in butter. I tell him to box up my food, which I wasn't able to eat, and we don't want the raw veggies because the baby can't eat them. He then gets a manager involved, who tries to get us to take the veggies with us. I explain to her as I did the waiter, that my baby can't eat raw veggies. We were then CHARGED for the veggies, even though we didn't take them!!!! We will not be returning!!!!!!!

Ordered the Jigg’s Stack appetizer and was told that the vegetables and salt beef was sold out. Ordered the 11oz Memphis Steak, but was told they only had 7oz available. We ordered the nachos as a replacement appetizer which was free of charge because many of the other things we ordered were unavailable. Other than that, the food was great with a pretty chill atmosphere. I will go back one more time in hopes of getting what I actually wanted.

Waitress was not friendly at all when we got our first round of drinks she wasted a full glass of water over one of family members at the table and really didn't make a big deal to apologize at all !!!! Food was terrible very over seasoned I had to send my steak back because it was so over seasoned with pepper my mouth was on fire . When I had to send my daughters nachos back because they were to hot with peppers for her to eat the waitress said omggg and walked away .There were a couple other issues with cold food but no one wanted to bring it up to her .....I had to ask another waitress to fix the problem for me ....made attempts to signal our waitress when we needed refills and things and was ignored .....once she realized I had asked another waitress to address the nachos she realized we were not happy she started to come around a little .....my steak was replaced and my daughters nachos which the second time around was delicious. ...would I ever go back I'd have to say no .....That night we went out to celebrate a very special event in our lives with family and the experience and service was just so disappointing .....

Did not even make it to an table. The “check in agent” made us and the people in front of us wait for what felt for ever to be helped. Then we had to fill in online forms due to covid and had to wait more to be seated, while the restaurant was basically empty. We and the people in front of us walked out, around the corner to the pedestrian mall, where we were seated in seconds and only a name and telephone nr req. Easier to board an international flight than to eat here. We wont be back.

We were just stopping here briefly to wait for someone.The view from the outside was spectacular (that would be the photo I posted). The service was okay, potentially slower because we opted to sit outside when it was a lot colder, no one else was on the patio. We just had some drinks and appetizers, the food was okay, nothing too exciting, but to be fair we didnt try any main courses, so I'm hesitant to be overly critical.

This is the second time we have visited Jack Astors, and after having been disappointed the first time due to the service and quality of the food, we decided to give the restaurant another chance and try again. This time, it was far worse than before, and we will not be returning. Firstly, we arrived (a party of 4) at 2:30pm on a Sunday, and the place was absolutely dead and we were the only ones in it. Despite this, it still took 45 minutes for our food to arrive even though 2/4 of the meals were salads. The server (Shane) did not once come by and ask us how our food was (my girlfriend's fries were ice cold and the curry bowl that one of my party members had ordered was only about a quarter full) nor to refill our drinks. We just sat there for about 30 minutes after we had finished our food trying to flag down our server who seemed to be avoiding us (again, he never came by to ask us how our food was, refill our drinks, or take away the dirty dishes we had accumulated). Eventually he came by and without remorse told us he was sorry it took so long for service. All in all, not only did the food suck, but the service was unacceptable. We will not be returning and I advise you to do the same.

Favourite place to watch sports downtown. Jack Astor's has much better food than comparable chain restaurants. Some of the favourites are: lobster crab dip, nachos, and sauced up chicken fingers. Beers are quite expensive. Loud and fun atmosphere. Friendly and fast service.

The Pad Thai bowl was tasty and filling, but the noodles were quite oily. It has a little bit of a kick, but I'm not a fan of spicy food and it was perfectly spiced for me. It had lots of chicken, but the chicken had been overcooked on one side and barely cooked on the other. Perhaps the cook was having an off day.

We were a table of six stuffed into a booth very squaty that was the first downer. We started with a server who brought over water who was then replaced two more times. The nachos we ordered were the only good thing about the whole dining experience. Four guests ordered the hot turkey. It was totally disgusting the turkey tasted as if it was three or four days old. It had an fridge taste to it. No it wasn’t eaten. The other two meals were steak done medium well and well done. The medium well was still bleeding had to send it back. The well done was done medium well it was tasty but I’m sure it was bathed in pepper The salad was disgusting looking I can’t believe it even left the kitchen. The overall experience was terrible and the Birthday girl felt so disappointed because no one enjoyed their meal and she felt that it was her fault because she picked Jack Astor’s. She wishes that she had just went elsewhere

Located by the water it is a very nice and spacious chain like restaurant. they have some neat drinks that will have you very happy. SANGRIA- super fun as they bring you the bottles with the ingredients separately so you can build up your flavor, adding a fun fact to the drink for sure. CLASSIC JACK STACK( poutine)- huge serving 2 pol can share easily, as far as flavor, I can say I had better, but I you see yourself here for some drinks this is a good choice for sharing songs at least 3 ppl in your group. I wish though the added ore cheese to it as we eat it I noticed that the middle of the stack was only fries and the sauce and cheese were MIA. BEER CHEDAR SOUP- this is another interesting presentation of meal, comes with a separate beer shot so you can add to the soup yourself, once again they went ahead for the fun factor on the meal, however this soup tasted heavy and salty, I would not recommend this soup at all. one of my friends didn't even bother to eat it at all. overall this is not a place for a foodie and more of a drinking crew type of night.

Went there to eat on September 15th for our 40th anniversary supper, ordered drinks, after drinks were brought to our table, the waitress asked if we would like appetizers, we proceeded to order from the menu calmari not available so we ordered the garlic bread. Proceded to order our entree.continued to order 2 classic steak dinners, sorry but we have no steak.ended up having our drinks and garlic bread. Paid our bill and left to go to another restaurant to have our main course.

It wasn't Jack Astor's, it was The Keg right next door. It was terrible overall. The person that seated us was great but the girl that took our order was not. She wasn't hateful but she was slow and forgetful. We had to have someone go get her to take our order, she never came back to check on us, we asked another server for water refills, our bills were mixed up, and finally in her absence the debit keypad timed out and we had to go inside where someone else took our money.

Excellent food and service every time I go to Jack's. The location provides a nice view of the harbor in St Johns(weather permitting). I've tried 3 different steaks and none of them have came up short. For a place that can pack in so many people, it is surprisingly not too loud which is a plus. Would highly recommend. Personally, I enjoyed it more than the Keg, because there is more then just steaks.

Made reservations but it wasn't overly busy. We ordered the Jigs Poutine and the beer and cheddar soup along with a drinks. She ordered a Beached in Bowl and I ordered the LIIT Fishbowl. Drinks were good and mixed well, it watered down like some places tend to do with the larger drinks. The server brought us the Jigs Poutine and it looked kinda plain and didn't appear to have cheese at first, but it did. Unfortunately it did not taste good, at all. There were weirdly flavored bits of turnip and large chunks of cabbage, the salt beef tasted old or like it was sitting in the fridge too long, and the gravy kinda tasted off. We also noticed we didn't get our soup. Server brought out our meals, we both ordered the sauced chicken fingers, something neither of us would order while out for food. I let the server know we did not get our soup and he apologized and said he would bring it right out. He brought itnout shortly after and told us it was on the house! The soup had a very plain presentation but the flavor was quite rich. We found it lacked other flavors to break down its richness, some green onion and/or bacon would have helped. She ordered the medium Buffalo sauced fingers with a baked potato. Fingers were good and not terribly spicy and the baked potato had a HUGE amount of butter with it. It looked a little overwhelming. I ordered the stinging bee sauced fingers, which is a spicy honey sauce, and had the truffle fries with them. The sauce on mine was amazing, sweet and quite spicy, probably more spicy than her medium buffalo fingers. The fries were ok, the truffle flavor was there but much more aromatic than flavorful, but it seemed to be almost covered up with garlic. Overall, the meal was decent and the portions were perfect. I would probably suggest staying away from the Jigs Poutine and maybe order garlic bread if you decide on the beer and cheddar soup. Very well priced, although our drinks almost cost as much as our meals, but that's because the fishbowl drinks are huge. Also very family friendly.

If you enjoy large, noisy place to get a bite to eat and watch a sports game, this is the place for you. Beer available is pretty good, most of the food is pretty good, and it is a great location to hang out with friends for a drink and some upscale pup type food while watching sports. Don't come here expecting a quiet time. As the location is downtown, don't expect parking to be easy, but there is large parking garage very close by, within close walking distance, that does charge for parking.

Absolutely loved our experience at Jack Astor's Bar + Grill! I have Celiac Disease, and have a hard time finding good places to eat, or places to eat in general. Jack Astor's was incredible with accommodating to my allergies! I didn't have to worry about cross-contamination, as they had a separate fryer for gluten free food! I could have a burger with a gluten free bun, which tasted amazing - most places just have lettuce! My husband and I came to St. John's for our honeymoon 3 years ago, and have been talking about returning, just for the food! Our hotel was conveniently placed across the street, so we ate here multiple times in our 2 week stay! Would definitely recommend!

We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 7:00pm and had no problems getting a table for four people. The general atmosphere was that of a pub/sports bar, loud music, sports playing on the many big screen TVs all around. Located next to the Keg and the Bier Markt. It is a very large Jack Astor's compared to other locations elsewhere in Canada Our experience was very good. The menu is standardized per the Jack Astor's franchise but they had the usual seasonal extra menu. The staff were attentive, they prompted us if we wanted another pint everytime our current pint was running low For appetizers: The wings were excellent, the dry rub was perfect; not too salty, and the meat underneath was juicy and tender. Garlic cheese bread was actually a big pan fried bun with the garlic and cheese on top. Both came in a portion size big enough to share and both were delicious! For mains: I had the Bourbon Steak entreé with poutine. The steak and the poutine was excellent but I felt the shrimp was a little overcooked Would be happy to come here again for another meal!

My wife, son (12) and I had lunch at Jack Astors in August 2018. My wife and I tried to order ‘iceberg’ beers. Where we’re from these are simply beer (usually a lighter lager) with lime slush. Turns out at Jacks those are called ‘hoppers’, so I ordered a raspberry (raspberry beer with raspberry slush) and my wife ordered an Iceberg beer (yes that’s the name of the beer and it’s brewed locally in St. John’s) and lime slush, which we called an Iceberg Iceberg. Both drinks were awesome and we ended up switching before ordering another round. For our lunch we had the shrimp fajitas (tasty), chicken & goat cheese sandwich (delicious) and the Superfood bowl (different, but very good). All in all it was a great meal and the waitress was awesome. We would definitely return to Jacks.

For my first time eating at Jack Astor's, I was pleasantly surprised with the menu options. I sat outside on the back patio with a gorgeous view of the boats in the harbour. I ordered the miso and sesame seared tuna bowl and it was so delicious. The dish seemed a little on the smaller side, but it was surprisingly filling. I'll definitely visit again!

My cod was so oily it turned my stomach a bit. My garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic flavor. Our sodas were pretty well flat. We had to ask for soda refills. We werr seated quickly despite there werr several people waiting. We had reservations so that could be it. Our servrr was nice and the checking out was hassle free.

It's loud, full of bandwagon sports fans and vape-shop entrepreneurs, and I think I slipped on a puddle of liquid testosterone once. But the food is surprisingly good. Not typical big chain fare. The patio is nice, too. This is definitely a step up from Boston Pizza, so if you like being in a Breezeway surrogate for 27 year old MUN grads then you may well enjoy this place.

Relatively cheap, very loud and borderline obnoxious atmosphere. Closest to a dance party while you eat as you can get. Very prompt, friendly and engaging staff.

I never leave reviews but todays experience was a bit crazy. Called and was told there was room for two. We arrived 10 minutes after and we were told it was an hour wait now so we decided to go somewhere else. Called back about 20 minutes after because we changed our mind and then was told it was about 20 minute wait now. We arrived 10 minutes after that phone call to be told that it was an hour wait again. This time we decided to wait there and the lady put us on the waiting list. Well about 5-10 minutes of us waiting there right on the seats at the door, another couple came in with no phone call or reservations and got seated right away so i spoke up and the manager(or supervisor, he seemed to be the decision maker) sat us right away to a table. After about 40 minute of ordering, the nice waitress came to tell me they ran out of miso dressing and just got it switched for the coconut curry, it wasn't good with salmon but thats my fault. I should have said no and order something different and wait even longer. The taste was too spicy for coconut curry but it was OK. Salmond was dry. In general the food was prepared poorly but the food itself was OK. The ingredients were good quality. We received the starter about 20 minutes after sitting down and the mains about 40 minutes after the starter. Price was adjusted for the lack of miso dressing but it was still expensive for the quality of the food and service we received. We only complained to the waitress after we paid though. And I still left a tip because the waitress was really nice. Last time I was there was really good everything. This time I felt passively discriminated against but I think it was just due to severe incompetence on the lady(ies) that works the front door. Thanks for making my special evening miserable for a bit. You are lucky I wanted to spend quality time with my much better half because I would have told you right where to go the third time you passively treated us like dirt.

I went there recently with my girlfriend and both of our meals were trash. I had a bacon cheeseburger & the meat was completely over-cooked. My girlfriend had a chicken-pasta dish, she didn't touch the chicken on it because it was literally black. Our drinks weren't carbonated and for paying what we did, I was expected to get atleast a decent meal. They weren't even busy! I wouldn't recommend this place to people, unless you wanna pay for what I stated above.

The service at Jack Astor's is always good. But personally I find that the food can be hit or miss (but never actually bad) and I find the atmosphere to overwhelming and for the restaurant to be loud, both in appearance and by the amount of people that go (especially in evenings). However it is a Bar and Grill and it seems to be a fun and popular hang out place. It is not my personal favourite but that has everything to do with personal preference.

I have been there a few times and I have always liked the food. The cost is reasonable for the size and the parking is limited as you would expect for the downtown. The staff were helpful and pleasant. Overall, a nice place to go if you are interested in a nice meal. Oh, and the place has really been done nicely.

Each time I have been here the service and quality of food has been consistent. I like the environment. The staff really are friendly and attentive. One server was carrying beverages, another server was walking by and spotted something within one drink. Turned right around and had it replaced. Nice to witness. They have outdoor seating with the harbour on the back view. Great for kids, adults, groups.

From the bundles takeout menu, We ordered the dinner for 4 with leftovers and it was awesome!! We also added 4 beer and cheddar soup. Everything was delicious , lots of it and fresh!! Our compliments to the kitchen and front staff for everything. Cheers!!

Just joined friends for drinks, and chose to drink beer. Beverage choices were bar mix specials, nothing hand crafted. Very strict on Covid protocols to the point of not being sensible. Friends were sitting at table by the bar, closest to the door and the spare seats were on both sides of the table perhaps 6 feet from door. We were instructed to walk around the entire bar, past multiple tables and employee work station before getting to the table. This was before mandatory masks. The amount of unnecessary walk bys we had to make was ridiculous. Other than that staff were curtious and efficient. Our bar tab had an extra beer listed on it that we didn't have, but was removed when brought to wait staff's attention.

Jack Astors just starting serving breakfast from 10am-1pm as a trial and it was fantabulous. The chipotle eggs benedict with hash brown and spinach salad was awesome, just enough heat in the chipotle hollandaise sauce! The plating was beautiful, the portion was perfect, I didn`t feel overstuffed. Kudos to Jack Astors for starting a breakfast menu. I found the chipotle eggs benedict better than Bagel Cafés and it was cheaper. The staff super friendly and ambience was lively, bright yet relaxing. My son had the Chicken and waffles and the Jiggs dinner hash and he found both were quite tasty : ) We will definitely return and I highly recommend you try their breakfast menu and their new dinner menu as well.
