This Winery belongs to the category of French restaurant.
If this is your first time going here I would recommend sitting in the train section of the restaurant for the full experience. The server was super friendly and had such great recommendations. The bourguignon was incredible... I still think about it to this day! The food was worth the high price.
Okay. So I know this restaurant has been around for a long time with a great reputation for fine food which is why I was very disappointed in my meal there the other day. I didn't spend a lot of money on their "specials" (and I'm glad I didn't) I just had their specialty tortierre and my granddaughter had the poutine. Mine was very blah and the gravy tasted a bit rancid although maybe that's how it was supposed to taste. The server was very nice, but his boss was dressed and acted poorly. As we were finishing he was talking to his other employee pointing to our table that could be used after we left (for covid restrictions I suppose) Not too classy. Since I had my young granddaughter with me i chose not to make a fuss about the above; so would I go back...no thanks. Maybe I just got them on a bad day, but this restaurant is looking a little rundown.
Was the first time here and all I can say is amazing. Had the bison and elk combo with risotto. Absolutely delicious...a must try for any meat lover. A must is their famous maple sugar pie...the crust is sooooo flaking. We were blessed to have Curtis as our gracious host. If you have never tried Resto Gare...you better try them. Will definitely be a regular now. A true gem.
Great experience, the food was amazing, the daily special was very good. I recommend the place for a nice romantic night out. And the desert cart has so many choices you can not pass on it, save room.
Nice place, the bouillon was a disappointing needed more flavour with anise and saffron. The service was good, we didn’t have reservations but it was recommended for next time.
First time at Resto Gare and Train Bar Bistro. Not much space for parking. However it was really nice inside. Decor just needs a little touching up. The food is delicious. I had the French Onion Soup for starters, it's delicious. Then I had the special for the main course, rib eye steak with mashed potatoes, vegetables, and two onion rings with gravy sauce on the bottom. That was delicious too.
I'm a picky eater and so read reviews about that place before going. Several comments were complaints about the food being overpriced. I still wanted to get my own experience though and form my own opinion. As a seafood lover, I went for their Tresor de la mer. My expectations were high and reasonable for a $110 dish! And this was such a letdown. The scallops, shrimps and vegetables barely had any flavor. Don't be fooled by the picture of the dish! It looks good but it has nothing special. Charging $110 for this should be illegal. Needless to say that I will never return to that place, or recommend it to anyone. Bummer.
We had our wedding reception in the train car that we had booked privately for our event of just over 20 people. There were SO many amazing menu options to pick from for our guests, and all the guests raved about how good the food was! Portions were great, the service from Robert & Alexie was so friendly and organized (and bilingual!). The quality & presentation of the food was amazing! Linda, who helped organize the event and was my contact person leading up to the evening, was fabulous! She was responsive and organized! The evening was a success!! They were able to accommodate with dairy-free options for food allergies! We brought our decor to personalize the train car. It was a perfect space for that size of a group, even leaving a bit of room for a few younger children to roam. I would highly recommend Resto Gare for a large group of people and will certainly be going back just the two of us!!
I searched for 45 mins online for French onion soup. So someone recommended I order off skip or door dash from this restaurant. I unfortunately couldn’t find them on either. I called the restaurant asked how I would go about ordering from them and I was informed that they turned off third party ordering systems to only focus on in store customers. I was disappointed then he asked what I wanted and I advised French onion soup and he replied “oh that’s it?” And I informed the gentleman on the phone that there would be more ordered and for two people at least. The employee proceeded to tell me that he could In fact turn on the third party ordering but would rather not so the chef concentrate on in house customers only. Lucky for me I found soup else where and my order was well over $100.00. This place made me feel very unvalued as a customer. I wish I could give a zero star rating.
Excellent food and great service. The waiter was so humorous. Definitely going to visit again.
Classic French Bistro, great food, great service!
Fantastic. Food was perfectly prepared and presented, from starters to dessert. Excellent service all around. Beautiful, historic premises.
My husband and I brought a group of friends to Resto Gare for a dinner out. We were impressed with the variety of choices on the menu. We were all raving about our food choices when the meals arrived. The table went quiet as everyone was enjoying their meals. My French onion soup was delicious. The food was incredible as was the service.
We ordered a tourtière to bake at home and a Caesar salad for a Friday night treat. Both were fantastic! I wish I’d taken a photo of the tourtière - it had a pastry train on top! And speaking of the pastry, it was delicious, as was the filling. The salad had just the right amount of anchovy in the dressing and the romaine was crisp and fresh. This is our second pandemic dinner treat from Resto Gare, but I assure you it won’t be our last.
Absolutely wonderful experience, the service was excellent and the young man who attended to us was precisely attentive enough to make for a good dining experience. The food was premium and delicious. The coffee was too. I highly recommend for a nice Winnipeg meal and would return for lunch again if I wanted a nice place. I had the quiche and the crust was flaky and not soggy, wonderful food, great people too. Reservations 100% required for fancy new years supper meal but it was no problem getting in for a late lunch. Worth calling in advance if you're going for the standard 11-1 5-6 meal windows, and for a holiday supper you have to reserve. We made it just in time for them to be transitioning for the supper crowd but they served us lunch anyway at 3pm, we just snuck in. Thanks! Merci!
Really great atmosphere. Customer service was amazing. Decadent food.
Wow, incredible atmosphere! I haven't had better service in my life! Professional doesn't come close! I truly didn't want to leave. Bus, cart, or donkey... Get over here, Oh and did I mention the food....!!!
Food was great. Opted to try the Ribeye special. Only complaint (really not that bad) was the parking
What an epic dining experience. We sat outside in the beautiful courtyard and had amazing appetizers and main courses. Great service an exceptional food. Highly recommend it.
Friendly staff, nice food

Absolutely love this place! Hidden pearl of our city! Music, atmosphere, great service and delicious food! Fondue from brie with berrie jam on top and crunchy baguette - mmmm, taste like heaven! Risotto with seafood - I definitely return to eat this dish again. And again.
Went to Resto Gare for dinner last night and every aspect of the experience was exquisite! The patio was stunning, the servers were kind and prompt, and every single cocktail and plate were beyond expectation. Would highly recommend the champagne cocktails and their cheese plate!
We were a party of 12 and went last night. While the food was good, the service was extremely slow. The server wasn't all that friendly either. When it came time for all of us to pay our separate bills, just my daughter was approached by the server who there is a 15% gratuity added but since its christmas you could add some more tips. She was the only one he said this to and we shocked at the audacity of him when the service was nothing special. Most of the people were only and I feel he took advantage of her because she was young. She felt intimidated and shocked so she gave him extra.
Visited on a Friday with a few friends. The restaurant was severely under-staffed and the servers looked overworked. It took close to half an hour to get our drinks, never mind having been checked on if we need some refills, and over an hour to get our food. We also felt slightly rushed as we got our food about 7 mins before they were closed and was approached by 2 different servers and told "It's okay if you guys stay 5-10 mins past close." At least 3 other tables that came after us were served before us even if we ordered starters and small dishes. The cheese plate was slightly disappointing, especially for a french restaurant. They tasted like your ordinary grocery store cheeses that you certainly could have bought and prepared yourself. I did very much enjoy the Saint-Jacque I ordered, though. I am hoping to try again in the future when the provincial restrictions and current climate of the pandemic allows the restaurant to operate at its normal capacity.
Dinner
Love this place Super clean Friendly...great menu Prices are very reasonable and you gotta like the train
Staff was second only to the meal. Could be one of the best filet mignon I've ever had.
Absolutely wonderful!!! We had our wedding there in August and everything was more than amazing. Linda was very kind, accommodating, and helpful. Especially when Covid-19 restrictions kept changing and we'd have to adjust certain details for our wedding. The staff were and are always lovely. The food was delicious! Our guests couldn't stop talking about the Prime Rib and how good it was. A great restaurant that our families will continue to come back to for birthdays and special occasions.
Had a great anniversary celebration supper. All the food was excellent and service, too. Haven't ever been there before and we'd like to go again. Had the seafood for 2.
Fantastic place,great food,wonderful waiter,all around great experience
my first time at this restaurant and the service of the food was not to the expectation of our order. We had mix ups with our steaks being cooked and the wait time for our group was over an hour to recieve our food after we had ordered. We unfortunately wish the staff were more friendly.
Must try if your new to Winnipeg or need a new favourite place. Eating in the train was a great change to being in a dining room. Food was amazing!
Stopped in for dessert and was surprised with an amazing patio and delicious dessert! We will definitely be back to try some of the delicious looking food we saw!
Very nice location, we were told by many friends this place was top notch. We got there and right away could tell they were understaffed, our waiter was nice to give us the features of the day and we both selected the rib steak feature. Our waiter seemed very disappointed in us for wanting our sauce served on the side and said no when we requested some gravy with our potatoes as he said the dish didn’t need it which I found quite rude. Our starter escargot was amazing especially in the sauce, when we got our mains we were disappointed the steaks were both over done, and quick frankly just dry. Halfway through eating the server came back to check on us and finally offered to bring the sauce we had originally asked for. The wine and atmosphere was great.
Truly exceptional service, one of the most charming settings and patio in the city. Authentic, top quality cuisine and reasonably priced. Great even just for a drink and dessert. Highly recommended!
First time at Resto Gare with my partner for my birthday and it was fantastic! Eric was an amazing server, he was professional, prompt, and gave my partner and I amazing hospitality. I appreciate the service he gave to us. The train is beautiful, its definitely a must see and as well as the restaurant. When we went there was a large party in the back of the train and because of the sizing of the train the volume could get quite loud, so it was a bit hard of hearing and had to increase volume to have conversation. But it really did not damper our experience! We were still able to have an amazing dinner ! Thank you to all staff at Resto Gare!
Spent a lovely evening at the Resto Gare. Every bite was just delicious. Very well seasoned food, prepared with care and lovely presentation. Tender fillet, the seafood rissoto was exceptional and the pea soup was thick and delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant. A very welcoming atmosphere - no rush to usher out. Meal was excellent - tasty and hot. Well priced for the quality
Not sure how this place has 4.5 stars? I guess I just have really bad luck with food orders.. Ordered Poutine, Mac and Cheese, French Onion Soup, Scallops, Caesar Salad, Tarte au sucre à l'érable & Creme Brule through Skip the dishes.. Figured hey why not give them a chance and support local Well, ignoring the.. smaller portion sizes (which what ever, theme "high end" what else is new)... getting 1/4 cup of onion soup for 9.00 is just not acceptable in any way or form... 21 for Scallops? as described on the menu "Seared scallops, sautéed bacon, mushrooms, swiss cheese, béchamel and herbed bread crumb.".... What do I get? 5 "Seared" (i'd get a better sear with a match) and a lemon wedge... that's it, that's all.. If I wanted to spend 21$ and be disappointed I'd go to a bar and try to pick someone up The Ceasar salad? at least they followed my directions when i asked for no capers Definitely not a place I'd be a repeat customer of
Phenomenal food, wonderful quiet atmosphere, and they treated us like royalty, 12/10 will definitely go back
Our experience here was perfect! Even with a party of 8 (including kids), we were served quickly and warmly. The food was amazing, and eating in the train car was a great experience. Obviously, the place is pricey, but even the little bit of leftovers I took home was better reheated than some food I've had in other places! I'm not familiar with French food, so I can't speak to it's authenticity, but the joy taken in serving us was definitely genuine.
Exceptional. Well worth the cost, a few extra dollars compared to the chain restaurants. Real fresh ingredients prepared right. You will not be disappointed.
7.14.2017 They lost stars based on .. Our server was Matt. I had wanted lobster risotto as a side to my filet mignon. I asked him how much, he said it would be $8 and I was fine with that. I got my bill, saw that I was charged $15 and told him I was not happy with that price and that he should have come back to confirm a higher price (as I would not have agreed to pay that for a side.) His response "oh.". Not only that I was in a party so there is automatic gratuity, I would have preferred to give 7% so that the back end could have something.. but Matt did not deserve it bad on 2 things. 1. Although I ordered sparkling water, my regular water was not refilled. 2. He did not try to amend his $15 mistake, no apology or change in price. Just a mere "Oh." Wait Staff should be appropriately trained for this type of situation, he seemed clueless. -1star staff Second, the lobster risotto was not done well.. it was stringed lobster mixed in overcooked with "too much liquid that was not absorbed " risotto. Also the Filet Mignon, which I asked for "mid-rare closer to rare" came back Medium-well. Need to work on their timing. ... The 3 stars is strictly given to the Duck Pate starter special, the Lobster Bisque. Both of which I would order again. And the restaurant itself is pretty cool, an old train car turned into a dining room. All mentioned are photographed and attached.
Love the food and the drinks ???? and the cheif special is definitely a plus.
We had a wonderful experience at Resto Gare. Our waiter was amazing and the food incredible. We loved the atmosphere of being in the train. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
Very nice french restaurant. We stayed in the train car, which has a nice feel to it. Nice servers, great tasting food
Amazing food! Staff are incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our meal enjoyable. Would highly recommend!
Amazing food, atmosphere and service. Went on a date with reservation, came to the place 20 minutes early and they already have our table set up. Didn’t have to wait long for our server to get our drinks and food order. One of the best restaurants in Winnipeg for sure. Everything was pleasant from start till finish. Reservations highly recommended cause by the time we finished, the restaurant was already full. Will definitely be back!!
Have not been here in years but went recently. Service was very friendly. The food was good but did not reach fantastic. The mushrooms with the Chateaubriand tasted a bit odd. Its still a nice place to dine. Dinner comes with bread service. The cheese appetizer with pistachios was not as good as the one I had served up recently by the cafe ce soir. I did like the looks of their dessert cart. The berry cheese cake I had was light and sweet. Nice end to the meal. However I was told it was a feature for that night.
Where do I begin? Found this unique restaurant on skip the dishes, first time ever heard it it. Loved the menu, ordered a few dishes such as the cheese platter, cordon bleu & Brie fondue. The delivery arrived and it was everything & more! Great presentation, bursting flavour, huge chunks of cheese, ( which is hard to come by with charcuterie boards! ) It was exactly what I needed... Loving every bite ! Im extremely happy finding this hidden gem of a restaurant! Thank you! Ps. The note attached is adorable, great extra touch! ????
Went here for an anniversary dinner and thankfully it was fairly quiet. The service, from Brian, was good but he was quite monotone and expressionless. Food was served quickly and tasted delicious. Near the end of our meal two new groups came in and got seated right beside each other, and very close to us, in the otherwise empty train car. Also, a different server came over and stood right beside us with his mask down to talk to one of the tables. Good thing we were leaving, as I would not have been comfortable spending the whole meal that close to others.
Fantastic service, food was delicious, and staff were superb. Loved dining in the old train car. Was all in all a beautiful evening out.
Takeout here is a must. Celebrated our anniversary (GF and I) with takeout because of Covid. Food was spectacular as much as we would have loved to dine in covid has impacted alot of the dining experiences however we are so happy and fortunate we can still order take out and also support local restaurants during this time. Everything was delicious . Ordered the filet and the risotto royal ; Both were cooked to perfection (steak and seafood). Can't wait to come back post covid and sit in restaraunt or in patio.
A little pricey but a great meal. Great feel no matter where you are seated but the nostalgic feel to the train is my favorite. Great time. I will go back for sure.
Resto gare is a very chic place with dining room and train car for lunch or small intimate weddings or parties. A beautiful patio also where they have Thursday jazz in summer. The food is french based and along with the delicious dessert cart you can have a lovely continental dinner. Good wine and cocktails tho I do find them bit pricey. Lots of parking free and easy access to transit. Curtis a mainstay server is very personable and helpful. The owners very friendly and helpful as well. For a celebration I highly recommend Resto Gare.
Meal type
This place was a great experience for a small group. I feel as though 2-4 people would be the ideal amount, especially if you’re looking for seating in the train. It would get a little cramped for space otherwise. Great food, well worth the price. The only criticism would be the servers and staff, they could have been more hospitable, but we came in on a very busy evening so its justified. I wish they had live jazz on more nights throughout the week, I feel as though that’d be a great addition. Got the beef bourguignon, and escargot, would highly recommend. Would gladly come back and try out different items on their menu.
I was really stoked to try this place, the menu looked so good & filled with things I wanted to eat. The taste of the food itself however did not meet or exceed my expectations. Our server was super friendly & kind. I just found the downside to here was the food wasn't as flavorful as other places within the city. Great ambience & vibe tho!
The meal was excellent. Quality of food, meal and ingredients are on top. The meal aee diversified and are all homemade. The interior and exterior is very clean. Great service, people working in the restaurant are very nice and and the price is not to high for the quality. In short very original with the train l, great quality of food and great service.
Delicious! Clean and friendly. They even give you electrical fly swatters for outdoors. Dinner and a show!
Everything from the warm welcome to the after dinner cappuccino was spectacular. Cannot wait to go back.
Great food, outstanding service. The salmon was excellent.
I am currently waiting with my family of 9 for over an hour to receive our food. We have reserved at 6pm and ordered by 630pm and still are waiting for our food for the current time of 8. The service is not of standard for expectation we thought would be a good restaurant. Unfortunately, the service is why I am servicing this restaurant as a two star. Hopefully the food is better than the service. Decor is pleasant. Not friendly staff.
We spent Mother’s Day at this lovely and gorgeous restaurant. Cosy french atmosphere and we were lucky to have a table in the famous train cabin. The waiter was very pleasant and helped us choose the correct starters and meals (included in photos). Their cakes were also very delicious , especially that maple one. We enjoyed, we will come back (maybe for a jazz evening ) and definitely recommend that place.
What an incredible dining experience. Nestled away in the French quarter of Winnipeg, St-Boniface. This is a gem that is 7 minutes out of the city center. Built out of an old train's dining cart, this French restaurant was not only adorably quaint but the food was delicious. Like role your eyes in pure joy delicious. Starting with the escargot, my Mom had Tortiere for her main course, myself the gourmand macaroni and cheese with smoked ham, and ending with a cappuccino and creme brulee that had to be one of the best I've had. Oh, and the Prosecco was to die for too. Highly recommend! So worth it!
What a wonderful experience, the food is delish. The staff is amazing, beautiful, caring people. The atmosphere is wonderful. Thank you all for making my 65th birthday a very remarkable experience.
Resto Gare is our "go to" destination for birthday celebrations! The food is exceptional and consistently delicious, and the service...well....that's impeccable. Yesterday, the staff went the "extra mile", providing us with a spectacular meal (albeit "take-out"). Looking forward to being able to dine in once again, as this restaurant is one of Winnipeg's finest.
Excellent experience, food was delicious and service was friendly and professional! Will be back
One of my most favorite places to go. Absolutely love the food and the service is the best.
What a great place to go for dinner. Amazing food quality. Great cozy environment. Food is really worth the money. The assorted cheese platter is delicious to start with. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended!!
To be frank, this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The service was amazing, the food was incredible, and the overall aesthetic of the place was beautiful. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The food came out quickly, and it was melt-in-your-mouth good. Don't hesitate to make this your next stop. It's worth your time.
Went for lunch. The tourtiere was amazing! Then came the Maple Sugar Pie... OMG! Need to come back for a dinner next.
We were here for a family dinner and it was excellent. We were promptly greeted and seated. The decor is period in style very pleasant and inviting. The service and the meal were topnotch. The menu is varied and my favourite was the pork tenderloin. Dessert is brought to the table on a trolley and is a very nice touch. When back in the city we will certainly dine here again.
The service was excellent with the food being superb. Celebrated both our birthdays and chose a lovely restaurant that dud not disappoint. Will definitely book outside next time....garden area is beautiful. Highly recommend.
We decided to have our Company Christmas party dinner at the restaurant this year. Everyone on our team loved the food and the ambiance. The server was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend Resto Gare to anyone who is looking to have a group dinner.
Food was mediocre but the service was exceptional. I bet sitting in the car would be super cool but they had a private event that night.
Amazing food. Linda made it happen for us to get on to the patio for Thur jazz music night. It was our 28th wedding anniversary. Such a beautiful place to eat. Food is outstanding. Thank you to Matt our server.
Went here for our after tax season party! The service was fantastic, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for us. When they didn't have the wine selected, they offered to discount a more expensive bottle to below the original selections price. The food is priced at a level I could afford, but offered food that is on par with restaurants like 529 Wellington or The Gates. Definitely a place I'd go again.
Good food. Reasonably priced - sometimes. Live entertainment
Unreal food, and this place goes the extra mile to make sure your experience whether dine in or take out is world class. They even included a candle and matches with our desert for my wife's birthday. Classy AF
The service was very good; we had our waters refilled promptly without asking. We had the Ham Croissant, Salmon Filet, Caesar Salad with Salmon, and Mac & Cheese. The presentation was great, the food was very flavorful, and the portions were generous. It's a nice atmosphere as well.
Absolutely fantastic! The restaurant itself is very nice and very unique. Our server was great, very funny! The food got to us quickly and was really really good. We tried the Mac and cheese, poutine and peanut butter creme brulee which were all fantastic! Will definitely be going again.
A true gem.
Absolutely fantastic! The restaurant itself is very nice and very unique. Our server was great, very funny! The food got to us quickly and was really really good. We tried the Mac and cheese, poutine and peanut butter creme brulee which were all fantastic! Will definitely be going again.
The kitchen handled us at a smaller table amongst three large parties magnificently. No delays in getting our food. The food was very tasty and well thought out. The risotto paired perfectly with the seafood. Dessert is a must! The lemon tart was lovely, as was the sugar pie; a special cheesecake the chef had baked that day (caramel macchiato) was perfect.
Excellent service. We had minestrone and mussles for apps. They were both delicious. I don't even like minestrone but this was so good. After so much mussles we shared stuffed chicken breast meal which was tender and tasty as were the sides. Bill at the end was way lower than we thought it ought to be. Will go there again for sure! Sorry no pics we gobbled it up. Mayne next time
Went to celebrate my birthday, food was fantastic, service was great, all staff were friendly, helpful and were constantly cleaning to keep us safe. If you want flavorful food, a good wine list and nice ambiance, visit Resto Gare.
My best friend got married there. And although it was a lovely event... The service was lacking. The bride and groom were served first as they should be but then the bridal party was served very last... Which was not good for the timing of everything. We didn't even get our wine until all the guests had their food. Im a chef at a wedding venue and I was sorely disappointed in the timing of the service. Everything else was Wonderful!
We arranged for a larger party during covid restrictions for my wife's first birthday after our son passed away. I say this because the staff had no idea how important it was this evening go off without a hitch. And man did they go above and beyond while making it feel like that is just how they operate. Would highly recommend. The food is aaaaalways high quality and the service is perfect. They have no idea who we are and how many times we have come and they still always make us feel at home.
