We had our wedding ceremony and reception here recently and the staff at Publican House were amazing. They were super helpful the entire time while planning and made our day super special. They helped us figure out the logistics of the evening seamlessly and were quick to answer any questions we had. The food was amazing as always as well as the drinks. I went here about 2 weeks ago. Everything was extremely clean, I felt very safe! I was more than happy with the service I was receiving. Staff were so nice and polite. Was my first time there, definitely will not be my last!!! I got the Phack burger. Was absolutely delicious! Especially with the lemon Shandy. I have been highly recommending it to everyone! My family and I recently had dinner at Publican House. We were all very happy with our meals, and appreciated the organization of our reservation. We requested to be checking out at 6:30 so that we would get to the Pete's game on time, and the staff were mindful of that and made it happen. Food that we enjoyed includes Marge pizza, the fries, turkey wings and mac 'n' cheese. My husband got the filthy taco bowl, and liked the contents inside the bowl- but didn't care for the flaky pastry bowl. He would prefer an actual crunchy taco bowl that can be broken up and eaten like nachos after. We'll definitely be back!!

The avocado chicken salad was delicious and served so quickly I didn't even have time to order my second pint. Great beer selection, friendly staff that were helpful when needed without being bothersome. They've gone out of the way to preserve a lot of elements of the old building in a hip, modern atmosphere. Would love to come back if I'm ever in town again.

I have been there twice, and was less than impressed both times. Musician was WAY to loud and not very good. The pizza was ok. But for a wood fired pizza...fail. I was expecting a lot more. One of the kitchen staff was wearing a dirty old hat. So gross. Will not go back!

My meal was great. As a vegetarian, they had plenty of options if you ask me. It was a veg patty which seemed to be sweet potato based, dressed like a gourmet big mac. Good fries too! My only complaint...my friend ordered what he thought was a beef dip. It was in fact a "beer dip" which while delicious, was not what he had in mind. The waitress did not offer to correct it and rather just explained how it happened. I've always had restaurants just offer to make something else.

There is nothing particularly bad or good about the publican house. There beers taste like they strive for mediocrity and lack any beer that will interest a palate looking for creativity . If you are looking for a beer with flavour check out the Olde stone or smithworks brewery. I had occasionally used the growler(10-15x over 2 years) refill and was recently sold a growler with a cracked handle, and when I tried to return it I pointed out the Cracked handle, the clerk then wouldn't return it and called me a liar when I said I had bought it in this condition. Mediocre beers, bad product inspection on growlers obviously and rude staff. I like to support local businesses, but not after bad treatment as a customer.

Great selection of beers and excellent service. The house beers are a local favorite but I find them on the lacking flavor side. The food is excellent and there is plenty of other beers to chose from so I would recommend the Publican House any day.

So, I was apprehensive about going here because the menu was not the sort of food I was looking for and tbh the amount/type of “vegetarian” and “fried” foods offered was not getting me excited about meeting up here but it was where everyone wanted to go. I was really pleasantly surprised. The experience blew past my expectations and I loved my food the drinks and environment. I ended up having a wood fired pizza special that was the BOMB! And a delicious tropical drink. Service was friendly and helpful and food was fantastic! As someone who didn’t even want to go now I want to go back! Hahaha! Going to try and squeeze another meal in before going back out West. Two thumbs up!! I would have given this a 5/5 but because I got the special I’m not sure what I will have next time. I do wish they had a few more options that were more to my taste for pub fare but who knows, I may love it.

My Mom and I dropped in for lunch on a Saturday around noon hour. It was no busy at all. So no reason why they got our order wrong. I received the wrong pizza and should have sent it back but ate it anyway. It was just okay nothing special and the crust was too thick. My Mom ordered a grilled veggie sandwich which she also found was just Okay nothing special, in fact found that the bread was soggy inside next to the veggies. I am giving them two stars for a very nice potato salad. We did not have any beer so I can't comment on that. Will not return.

Small but interesting menu. Fantastic buffalo chicken pizza. This restaurant has outstanding customer service. Fast and friendly. The person I was with has significant food allergies and they took that very seriously ensuring that none of the food we ordered had anything that would be problematic for her. We really appreciated that due diligence. I really enjoyed the cheesy beer dip. I think this would be a fun place outside of covid-19. As expected in our environment with coronavirus it was quite quiet and they take covid-19 restrictions. Seriously.

We went for a tour of the brewery and finished with lunch at the pub. Food was very fresh and the wood fired pizza was delicious. That crust!!! Plus the beer selection is fantastic and the Publican beers are great. Staff were so friendly and it was a very baby friendly facility. I would recommend a stop here on your way to cottage country!

Great local beer! The lime-infused addition is an enjoyable choice for a hot summer day out on the terrace. The fish and chips are quite possibly the best in Peterborough. Highly recommend if you are looking for above average pub fare. The smell from the wood-fired pizza oven drifts outside to add to the ambiance.

I've been to the Publican a couple of times now. Each time the food was delicious and prepared in a timely manner. The staff is really laid back and accommodating. The Publican has a causal but high quality feel to it. The menu isn't huge but there a good options for everyone. I would highly reccomend trying it out.

The layout for the bar and restaurant are pretty good and the crowd that goes there are what you expect from a location like this. I will go back again. That staff was also great. Publican House would have easily had a perfect 5 star review from us, but our server left us with such a bitter taste in our mouth. The first moment she greeted our table there was no introduction, no hello, no welcome remark or phrase, just severe disdain and a rude: "Do you want something to drink?" It got worse from there, no check up on our food, no refills on our drinks, she cleared the plates and instantly brought the bill. We never got asked if we wanted more beverages (which were DELICIOUS), dessert, coffee, anything. She slammed the bill down and said: "You need the machine?" which she then gave me. I paid the bill, even tipped her 15%, and she just took the machine from my hands and walked away. Not a thank you, not a goodbye, nothing. She left. Her name is Elyse, according to our bill. I wouldn't have known it otherwise, as she never introduced herself. As a former GM in the restaurant industry, this service would never fly with me, and with many friends in both the craft beer industry and restaurant business, I'll make sure they don't get stuck with Elyse if they so choose to visit this establishment.

Best fish tacos north of California and Mexico ! The guacamole and chips were plentiful, a side dish of cous cous quite tasty, and my friends BLT ,perfect. There is an accessible lift. The downstairs entry and outdoor seating is also accessible. Kudos to the staff and management for adhering to strict Covid-19 guidelines .

Summary: this place is pub first, brewery second. We stopped at a few breweries in Peterborough and surrounding area on a vacation two weekends ago. We stopped here at around 3pm on Friday and ordered a flight of beer to share, and no food since it was 3pm and we were just there for the beer. The waitress was VERY short with us, and very friendly to the table next to us who had ordered food. We understand we weren't spending as much money, but we weren't taking up a table that could have been used for somebody else- there were many available tables. Perhaps we would have bought a pint after our flight, or even ordered some food but given how poorly we were treated, we paid and left as quickly as possible. We can't speak to the food, but the beer was decent but nothing spectacular.

Fantastic atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, a variety of beers made in-house, a solid variety of locally made beverages, and exceptionally delicious food. Everything we had was great - kids loved their noodles and pizza, big portions. The burger was so good I didn't want to share a bite! Massive taco platter (the chicken was a tad bland, but pulled pork and portion size more than made up for it), fantastic grilled calamari, and the Cuban egg rolls were as delicious as they were unique! Every time we've gone the quality and service has been top notch.

I cannot tell you how amazing my experience was. My fiance and I booked a 'consolation dinner's because we couldn't have our wedding on our planned date because of COVID. We booked a reservation. It was pouring rain that day so they asked us to wait a few minutes so we could have a covered table in a very quiet secluded area of the patio area. The food was amazing and when we were ready to leave our server offered us 2 free desserts. We were so happy we almost cried. If you are looking for a restaurant invested in it's customers and providing exceptional service, this is the restaurant you should go to. Charming brewery with an eclectic range of beers on tap. Our extremely friendly server set us up with two flights - one for the IPA fans and one for the crowd pleasers. Most of the beers were good, but the stand out was the Eight or Better - rich and strong, but full of flavor. The food was delectable as well - the hand-cut fries were perfect, as was their fried cauliflower. The turkey wings were mild but when tossed in a sriracha buffalo sauce, provided a nice kick. The mac & cheese was alright - serving it with a cheetos crumble was an interesting choice. Dog friendly patio seating and great service.

Next to and seperate from the brewery and tasting room. Reservations recommended! Managed to get in on their 3rd day of operation. No significant signs of 'just opened jitters' and the place was packed. Lots of local ingredients including the bacon on my BLT, which was excellent. Potatoes that accompanied our meals were great whether in the form of potato salad or fantastic fries. Full range of The Publican's own beers from lager to stout plus a selection of other craft taps and bottles. No one in our party tried the wood fired pizza. That will be on the next trip, which will be soon! Edit: Tried the Mush and the Meat pizza today. Two more winners.

The atmosphere is fantastic an upscale Brewery pub yet down-to-earth so you don't need to be overdressed. We enjoyed flight of 4 in-house draft beers that were excellent. Loved the Hazelnut Coffee Stout. The Cheese dip was a new experience with pickles and hot peppers. Buffalo chicken pizza was addictive. Both dishes complimented the draft perfectly. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. All in all this is going to be our new date night pub.

First time visit to the restaurant last night and wasn’t disappointed. Plenty of great beer and drink options. Recommend the raspberry wheat, which has an awesome subtle flavour. The grilled calamari is fantastic. Entrees portions were large and food was superb. Fish and chips, P-Hac and MBS burgers all well presented and tasty. Apparently some menu changes coming October 1, so will be going back for more beer and food tasting. Suggest calling or making reservations online.

Great place for a nice dinner in Peterborough. This was my second visit and both times I've been very pleased with my orders. Most recently, I had the mac and cheese, which had a great creamy texture. Or was served with a small BLT salad, which was part of the meal so I didn't have to pay for an add-on. The guacamole and shrimp appetizers we're both really good as well. The atmosphere has a great feel here. Its pretty laid back, but also has cool stylings and a hipster vibe. There was a live musician starting around 7pm on Saturday. Would have liked to hear more, but had to leave.

I want to begin by saying my husband and I were absolutely blown away by our experience! The food, the ambiance, the beer and the service! Last Monday was our third year anniversary and we had realized last minute that we had nothing planned so we wanted to have dinner at the Publican House. When I called, I spoke with a girl named Taylor who was so kind and so helpful. She expressed that they were unfortunately booked up for the evening but she highly encouraged us to try to walk-in. She even took the time to check the best time for us to hopefully get a table and she was right! We arrived at 6:30 and we were able to get a lovely table for two tucked away for some privacy. Our server Kazz was also fantastic! He was well educated on the menu, attentive and super hilarious. Kudos to the management for hiring such amazing staff! My husband had meat plate and I had the greek pizza which were both so delicious! The deep fried mac and cheese is to die for. We then ended our meals with a yummy homemade ice cream sandwich. We cannot wait to be back (this time with a reservation)!!!

We had arrived a bit late after checking in our hotel for our staycation. The staff was very courteous and let us stay so close to closing. The in house beer which is brewed on location was very tasty. We bought the Turkey wings which were huge. The fried cauliflower was a fantastic shareable dish. We got two salads and both tasted great. I bought the Hamburger. Sadly there is nothing on the buger menu with cheese and bacon (banquet burger) however they can be added. The burger was very juicy and flavorful. I loved the fresh fries. The service was great. We dined during stage 3 of COVID and the place was very clean. We ate on the patio that has an exterior entrance and the staff was diligent in cleaning.

Disappointing Sunday brunch, but a lovely patio! Once seated we learned there was a very limited brunch menu (two breakfast options, pizza and poutine!?!), despite their being open for brunch. For all the great reviews and ratings we were all set for hospitable service and food cooked by someone who cared. Instead we got a somewhat standoffish waitress, a teeny tiny chicken piece inside the Back Door Club sandwich (my 88 yr old Oma thought it was small), and don’t even bother with the ice cream cookie sandwich…it’s totally rock-hard frozen, cookies and all. To their credit the mushroom wood-fired pizza was excellent and the service from the lady who brought our drinks was far more friendly. ????????????????

2 star, only because I have had good food there in the past. Not so tonight. Not only did the server rush us through our meal, but she was also completely unable to describe the specials in any comprehensible way. The "special" (homemade fried bologna 'sandwich') was a repulsive, greasy monstrosity with no attention paid to whether the toppings actually complemented the 1/2" slabs of mystery meat, topped with a slippery slice of processed cheese. I decided to skip dessert despite not eating my dinner, because that just felt like throwing good money after bad. I highly recommend that this establishment stick to serving beer.

Last night we went out for dinner for a friends birthday. The night started out great; our food was amazing, and our waiter was very kind and helpful. At the end of our meal, my friend and I went to use the washroom. We were walking back to our table after using the washroom when what I believe to be the owner of the establishment made a comment about us not needing to go to the bathroom together. I explained that I needed a tampon from my friend and didn't want it given to me at our table in front of everyone. The owner then says "did she need to put the tampon in for you too?" First of all, that kind of disgusting comment (made by management at that) was completely inappropriate and uncalled for. I walked away and went to pay my bill and our group went to leave. While leaving, an extremely rude female bartender stopped us and blatantly accused myself of doing drugs in the bathroom. I don't do drugs, and really do not appreciate being falsely accused of doing so in front of an entire restaurant. Not wanting to argue further and extremely upset by the ridiculous accusations, I left almost in tears. I am truly disgusted and mortified by this experience. I'm not one to write reviews very often, but felt that this needed to be made public.

The paint is still pretty fresh on the walls, so I'm aware that the staff are still ironing out the details, as well as dealing with huge numbers of people lining up to get in. As someone who loves food... my first impressions were... Why don't I come back in a few months when they have figured out how to deliver to a large volume of people. For the time being, go for a beer and perhaps an appetizer, but hold off from making a meal and a night of it... at least until they've sorted out the details in the kitchen (perfecting their fries/ half of our fried cauliflower was just fried batter). I've no doubt that this will be a staple within the dining scene by this time next year. They have invested quite a lot in the structure and the results are beautiful. Extremely friendly staff. Just needs some experience under it's belt. I look forward to looking forward to going here. Until then, it's learning in progress.

What an awful experience. We will never go there again! Where to start?... First of all. The bathrooms dont lock. I was walked in on by an older women who was so flustered left the door open. So that was fun....considering its right in front of the bar The service was Sub-par at best. We ordered drinks and appetizers while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. 25 minutes for chips and guacamole with only one visit from the waitress within the first 5 minutes of that. Our waitress was un informative of the food that was not available but on the menu until one of us ordered it.. on a Saturday night. When a hair was found in one of our meals the response from our waitress was "eww" then she walked away and in no way did she apologize or attempt to solve the issue by replacing the food. After I ordered a $26 Steak that was un believably small and only came with a small Portion of fries. (Rip Off!) I then ordered a plain hamburger to help fill me up. She asked "just a plain burger"? I said yes... Almost 20 minutes later she brings me a cheeseburger which I didn't want or i would have asked for cheese. She said sorry and would bring me a plain burger... 5 minutes later she brings me a burger that she said was originally for someone else but she got the chefs to make another for them. This burger was still 90% raw. So disgusting to serve uncooked ground meat. I will never be going back there again. I would never recommend it to anyone.

Big craft brewer and home brewer so I was pretty excited that I was finally trying this place out. I'll give a breakdown of my rating to start. Food: 3/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Publican Beer: 2/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Price: 4/5 Food: The food we got was fantastic. The KFC (Kawartha Fried Cauliflower) was a pleasant surprise and the dipping sauce was great. Food came out hot and perfectly cooked. My gripe about the food was how polarizing it was. It's not a menu catered for Joe the public as it's missing even the most basic pub fare that one would expect to have with beer. The place generally seems busy but I think that will drop off with time due to the limited menu alone. Atmosphere: Pretty interesting inside that can cater to small and large groups without feeling cramped at all. The open kitchen and wood fired pizza oven really helped with the overall atmosphere. There was only one other couple dining with us so it was relatively quiet. The second floor offers a similar feel with a bar and seating area. Wouldn't mind seeing one of two floors having televisions that would be hooked up with local sports so that it could be a hangout for casual beer and appetizers on game nights. Publican Beer: Please please please make a beer that actually tastes good! This has been ongoing ever since The Publican opened up. I have gone in streaks trying the beer, really disliking it, and then going long periods without trying it again. I figured that they would clean up the recipes but it still tastes really unrefined and inconsistent. The Square Nail Pale Ale still tops out as my #1 least favorite craft beer and I've tried almost every craft beer that I can grab off the LCBO shelves over the last 10 years. The High Noon is the only beer I can really tolerate, the Paddlers is tolerable as well. Service: No issues here, our server was fantastic and the food came out in a timely manner. Staff appeared to enjoy working in the establishment. Cleanliness: Again no issues here either. Lots of wood surfaces that would show dust, dirt, or uncleaned tables. Everything looked squeaky clean inside and out. Price: Prices were on par with the quality of food provided and the level of service. Nothing really out of the ordinary. Overall I would go back again if they could guarantee that any of the guest beer taps were in stock. I simply cannot drink Publican Beer but was interested in the guest taps they had on the menu (which were all out of stock). Food is really good and really well cooked but the menu is limited. Not a place to go if you've got a picky eater in your party or someone who only likes light beers like Coors or Bud Lite with dinner. Hoping to try out the patio this summer and will add my review when I do!

I ate at The Publican House this past weekend, and was extremely disappointed . The service was fine. I ordered the smash burger and it was extremely undercooked and was actually bloody in the centre. The menu promises this high grade, excellent caliber food yet my fries unspectacular, the salad lettuce was almost yellow on my wife's plate and the flavours were nothing to remember. The food seems like it's been unpacked from a Sysco box and dressed up to be something it is not and it is over priced. On top of that the manager(?) for the servers seemed to be very short and snappy with the kitchen staff as we had a seat close to the open concept kitchen - which may explain why the food was so bad... Overall I would not recommend this experience to anyone. Also the beer is pretty bland. Beautiful restaurant though.

Today was the opening of the Publican House. Katie, one of the co-owners, was there this evening to welcome guests as well as Laura (you can reserve or walk up). They have carefully established washable menus as well as online menus. A spare table to reduce contact. Our waitress Taylor was a delight as well. I believe they can seat about 43 people? I have delighted in this corner for decades since it was Peterborough Arms where food, drink and great music would spill out onto the streets. I know that the music can't return until we are at least beyond Covid. Tonight was our first meal, sitting in a restaurant's patio. Thanks to everyone who was involved with making the meal of hope possible! My beloved had the Mac n Cheese and has enough for another meal! I pigged out on their double patty and awesome fries with half sitting in the fridge for a midnight snack or tomorrow's lunch! Come and hang out, chat with your neighbours, meet new friends and share lifelong memories! Way to go PH staff.

Nice spot for beers on the patio. Unfortunately, the food was quite poor and extremely overpriced. Would return for drinks, but would stay away from the food.

I like the style of the pub, it feels rustic, cosy, and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The beers brewed here are all right, though I’ve had better, and they have a good selection of guest options. The food is pretty good as well. Different menus at different times of day, so keep an eye on when you’re going if there something specific you’re looking for. I’d come again.

Patio is sizable where you can enjoy a pint and even enjoy some live music on the weekend. Sad thing is we have such a short patio season, so enjoy while you can.We visited the bottle shop before we left to go home and picked up a few brews along with some awesome beer infused stocking stuffers (namely beer jelly, beer candy brittle, and a craft beer pin) for my hubby, which he totally loved.

All the food and drinks were excellent! Have to especially reco the maple bourbon sour and the smoked eat sandwich. Service was a bit slow and we did have to wait about 30 before we got the bill after plates were cleared, but loved it and will go back.

Very disappointed. They will not fill personal growlers as they claim it is a quality issue. They only sell their own which they are out of. This gives the uniqueness of craft brewing a bad name. Too bad. Wasted an hour in drive time as well.

Tasty range of house beers. The salt and pepper turkey wings were delicious, as was the apple crumble cheesecake in a jar. The view from upstairs was lovely and sunny to boot.

I love going here! Amazing space for a large group with very accommodating staff. We had a great, easy time planning a 50 person wedding with social distancing. Couldn't imagine having my wedding any other way. Nothing but compliments from the guests about the great food and staff experience.

I love this place. Wood fired pizza is amazing. Our table had the mac & cheese, smoked meat sandwich, and falafel pita as well. Everything was great. Patio is covered and very nice. Staff are always welcoming with great suggestions. Drinks are great, Berry Blush Cider is amazing!

Disappointed in the changed Mac and Cheese recipe! It used to be a very homey recipe but now it's more like a college style meal. Too bad cause it was my and my family's favorite, we don't go much anymore now.

Pretty awesome brewery. Went in the other day to try their beer. Loved it. Bought my favs at their off sales and at the LCBO. Love their pub house ale (easy drinking more like a lager), their canoe paddler ale and the high noon. Not a fan of their light lager that was very watery and had an odd after taste. ????. It’s rare I find a brewery that I like almost all of what I try, this one I did. They have their brewing sorted out right! None the less love their other beers, great atmosphere and love their labels on the cans! Cheers. From Vancouver visiting my home town for the first time in many years!!

Took my wife out for lunch a few weeks ago (husband of the year I know) The waitress explained the local beers on tap thoroughly which was unexpected and thoroughly enjoyed. We smashed a few flights and enjoyed one of the homemade pizzas and flat bread platter. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience, will definitely visit again.

The Veggie Smash Burger was by far the best veggie burger I have had to date. The patty had interesting flavour and texture but the Cole slaw topping was what took it to the top. I had a flight of in house beers and can recommend the twisted nail. Service was quick and friendly - what's not to like?

Their beer is good and the waitresses are nice. All three dishes we got were bland, even the hot sauce didn't make the guac enjoyable. The patio was too close to an intersection to make for enjoyable dining.
