This Winery is classified in the category of Brewery.
Really brilliant place to grab some great selection of beers and food! For me the food trumps the beers as it’s all home made and smoked ribs are incredible! They should sell the sauce. I’d like to see more cider on the menu and a large range of beers but service is fantastic and I’d go back again!
Great beer and selection with friendly bar staff! Would highly recommend for individuals looking to try new beer styles as they are not afraid to experiment with different tastes. Truly a gem for beer enthusiasts, and offers selection for individuals who are new to the beer scene!
Saison beer was so delicious, the service was great. I was seated and served right away even with it being quite full already. The waitress was just sweet as pie and made me feel welcome. The atmosphere of the place is very pleasant. I feel like it's going to be a great go to place in the winter when I'm looking for a cozy stop in.
One of the few craft breweries who do beer and food right. I’ve had a wide variety of Flora Hall beers and have never been disappointed. I would highly recommend their East Coast IPA. I finally was able to visit in-person and try their food too, and everything I had was delicious. The falafel was especially good!
Very nice place with delicious beer options. My favorite was the West Coast IPA, make sure to try it!!!
Had a blast here at Flora Hall, always seen this place packed and finally had the chance to get in. The beers are awesome and the food was delicious, I had the jerk chicken with a cream of peas. It's a great place for groups and couples night. Will be back very soon and try the rest of the beers.
Flora Hall Brewing has already been picking up some serious buzz in the local news and in conversations recently and since it just opened, my small group of 3 went for a visit. We arrived originally at 6:30 pm on a Friday and found the place packed to standing room only - expected, of course, and it certainly bodes well for success. We ended up coming back a little later in the evening (around 9 pm) to sample some of the beers available and were lucky enough to snag a table upstairs near the windows. I tried an American Oat Pale Ale and was pleased with the flavour. A great beer from start to finish. The waitress was friendly and welcoming and despite a busy area she was also very attentive. All in all we had a great experience. I plan to go back to sample some of the other beers on offer and to test out the menu. No reservations are available so plan with that in mind. Street parking available. Accessible location.
I think it’s a first time ever I write a review on a restaurant. There are good and bad places, and I had different experiences with restaurants in the past, however Flora forced me into writing my very first review about my absolutely terrible experience with that place and their customer service. My fiancé loves craft breweries, and I thought it would be a good idea to take him along with couple family members to this place for a birthday pint. I contacted Flora and learned that they don’t take reservations, and we can simply drop in and they will accommodate us on a first come first serve basis. We decided to give it a try and were ready to be put on a waiting list and wait. When we came there on the birthday day, they told us the place is full, and waiting time is one hour. We were prepared for it and told them we can wait. However there is no waiting list, they don’t call or text and they simply told us we can’t even wait outside for our turn as there is no such a thing. We simply have to leave, come back in one hour and hope for the best. Great, thank you, Flora, that’s exactly what I want for my fiancé on his birthday, to wonder around for few hours hoping for the best. I must say it’s a very first time I experience such a bad and not accommodating service with a restaurant. To add, we almost left the place but I noticed that there was a couple of people waiting for the table inside. I came back and asked to speak with manager and if something can be done as they confirmed that couple was waiting for a table. I was greeted by a manager with very unwelcoming and even rude attitude. Her name is Alli and she said that she is a top manager and there is no one above her who I can speak to. She also told me that we are not allowed to wait because there are 4 of us but that couple is 2. I totally get the covid factor and limits inside the place for waiting but I said we are totally fine to wait outside if it guarantees our seating in one hour. I also asked why someone is allowed to be in line and wait, and someone like us gets turned away. The answer was, well, because there are just 2 of them but 4 of you, which did not make any sense to me. Are we now getting discriminated by the number of people who come into a restaurant? I think this place is totally overrated and does not appreciate their customers at all. Don’t waste your time, especially if you plan to celebrate an occasion there, my fiancé’s birthday was almost ruined. The only good thing about this place is the location, as there are tons of other great places in the area, and you can find much better and much more welcoming option once Flora management kicks you out. Well done Flora, great way to run business!
No beer flights - and they only had 2 beers in can for sale. Unless things change I would not visit again. Too many other good options in Ottawa, such as Beyond the Pale, Tooth and Nail, Dominion, Vimy that all do flights, and without the attitude.
The beer is great and the location is incredibly convenient. The food could be better but definitely still worth a visit.
Ahhh! went there on Friday March 12 th with two of my best guys! Greatly appreciated the covid protocols in place & observed by patrons & their awesome staff! made me feel relaxed & comfortable! Enjoyed Belgium Dubbel beer ( ok i had two!) ???? and the BBQ Brisket on noodles! heavenly! tender, melt in your mouth brisket on sweet tasty noodles n veg! Would go there again!
First time to this place, went with 2 other colleagues after an evening meeting, for dinner. First impression was that it's a vibrant, energetic happening place and a local favourite. Was pleased to see the pride flag hanging outside and a wide mix of clientele, mostly younger than we boomers. Garage door was open as it was a nice evening. Staff was all welcoming. We went upstairs to the loft, as downstairs was full. It was quieter, but not for long. By the time we finished eating, we were yelling at each other to be heard. Overall 4 points for buzz8ng atmosphere but not great for conversation with more than 2 people. First impression of menu was that it was a small plates place. I was hungry and ordered mussels, which came with hearty-looking bread and fries. The bread might have been good but it had been toasted on the grill and was burnt tasting. Nasty and too dry for dipping in the mussel sauce. Would have been better tasting and better dipping if left untoasted. Mussel sauce was Ok but not fabulous with no trace of promised bacon and minimal thyme flavour. Mussels were perfectly cooked. Sauce had diced potatoes in it, which I didn't expect and didn't care for. Fries were good but served with ketchup, which I don't like. I wish I'd been offered the aioli sauce that is offered when you order fries separately. Overall, only a 2 rating on the mussels; definitely overpriced for quality and quantity. My friends split the grilled cheese sandwich and fries, and a bowl of vegetarian Spanish olives. "Mixed" olives are stuffed with anchovies. Sounded yummy but one in the group has fish allergies. Vegie olives turned out to be spicy so only one person ate them. Olives very over priced- $8 for very small bowl. All in all, just an average rating, given the quality of the food we experienced.
Very surprised by this place in a weird way. The food turned out to be better than the beer. They clearly are focused on lagers and ales but it would be nice to see some more complex stouts and sours from this place. Pricing and service was good. I'd make a return visit for dinner but this place does fall a bit short compared to other brew pubs in Ottawa & Gatineau.
Amazing brew pub! We were visiting from out of town and the while staff treated us like special guests putting special beer tasters and chatting up Ottawa. It was awesome! It's a must try - especially if they have a sherbet sour on tap. The blackberry will forever be in my dreams!
Really good atmosphere in this space. It's got the industrial vibe going on with all the brewing equipment and set with alot of wooden furniture and bar. Really good set up. The food is a rotating menu which offers both simplicity and variety. The service was above average, and the host Arthur was super friendly and welcoming. Definitely be back.
Wonderful food wine and service. Tempura not my fav but we killed many wings and the rice balls looked great. Kombucha if u want not alcoholic. Music not too loud. Beers to go.
Upon entering, one of the waitresses straight up ignored us a couple times, so we figured we had to seat ourselves, but the host eventually bumped into is as we were making our way upstairs. He was very helpful, friendly and got us seated very quickly. The food was very mediocre, and I was very very disappointed with my tofu wrap. The tofu was overcooked to the point that it had the texture of rubber and the wrap itself just tasted like a mouth full of pickled ginger. The malted fries were decent, but accompanied with a tiny portion of curry ketchup which was lacking. The mango lassi IPA was decent. Finally, throughout all of this, our server was very inattentive, providing other customers with water and coasters even though we had sat down long before them and forgetting a couple of our requests.
The great beer is one thing, but the food is also spectacular—I had one of the best sandwiches of my life here. Quit waiting in line at the LCBO and just get your beer here with some food to go; you won't regret it!
We like this brewery! It remembers me Biergarten in Germany.
Beer: The beer was good. I do wish they had a dark lager, but they have a good variety nonetheless and dark lagers are quite rare. So 5 out of 5. Food: The menu is odd and one might say, not really 'beer food'. The flavours of the food were pretty spot on, and the serving size as well. The burger my friend ordered looked like a McDonalds burger, but the calamari, 'fancy nuggets' and scalloped potatoes were pretty good! Not sure if the kitchen simply doesn't have a deep fryer, but some fried foods are generally appreciated with a glass or two of beer. Due to the burger and the struggle to find a solid 'beer food' item, I rank a 3 out of 5. Service: The servers were great, responsive and quick. They may not have been the most knowledgeable about what the dishes consisted of, but they were quick to gather the information from the kitchen. Unfortunately, it took sooo long to get food. The place wasn't busy and it took 30 minutes to get a couple of dishes, and when we ordered round two, it took another 30 minutes. I don't expect fast food speeds, but 30 minutes (twice!) is too long. 3 out of 5. I would like to return since it's in my neighbourhood, but the odd menu and the speed of the food, and some of the quality of it, are what hold me back. I'll probably just visit for a few beers sans food. I hear their summer smoked ribs are good, so perhaps I'll give those a try in 2022.
It is rare I leave a public review, but this instance warrants special attention. I wandered into Flora on a whim looking for a good beer while on a "business-oriented" trip to the city. I was blown away by the quality of beer and the food. The food is fine-dining-esque and I do not use that adjective lightly. The portions are smaller (in North American standards) but perfect size for what should be considered regular consumptive standards. I had the short rib on request of the bartender (mainly because the entire menu seemed impressive and I could not decide), and it was nothing short of divine. The brews you ask? I had one Oatmeal Stout and two brown ales (both on nitro). What a delight. Chef and brew-masters (and serving staff of course) are doing some good things in the name of food and beer. Food, and the dining experience as a whole, are headed in the right direction with these guys.
Friendly staff, great food and delicious beer. COVID-19 protocols are in place. Distancing between tables. Lots of hand sanitisation stations.
Beer is really good. Great ambiance. You can buy beers in bottles to go (which are in a pretty large format) Food is pretty decent too. If you are hesitant, take the hot dog or hot chicken.
The best part of this brewery is the atmosphere. The cold metal and industrial vibe is awesome, with a comfy upstairs loft. Boasting two bars, it's a great place to grab a drink. The food however I would avoid if I were to come back. It lack flavour and complexity, generally lackluster and quite pricey. The homemade ketchup is a flop and the garlic aioli is tasteless. Basic burger for $18 was underwhelming. Everything could use a bit more seasoning. Service wasn't great but not terrible either. The staff was friendly but generally inattentive and would constantly apologize for forgetting about our table. If I return I'd just stick by a bar stool, skip the food and have some of the double IPAs which were tasty.
No fries. Very little vegetarian options my ciliac partner had nothing to eat other than the house salad. Beer was very good though.
We came to Flora Hall tonight and we were absolutely blown away by the staff. Sasha was so knowledgeable and so kind. He made a point to make us feel like friends and was extremely welcoming. On top of that, our server Bree was so nice and efficient. We loved our night at Flora Hall and can’t wait to be back!
Good service, good beer. Is above the average local brewery because of the quality of food. What I didn't like it's the noise level. 10pm on a Friday night you can't hear your friends speaking next to you. It's a big open space. They should have thought of some sound dampening measures.
This is a regular favourite spot of ours. Appropriate that it used to be a fire hall because everything you get here is ????! You really can't go wrong with delicious and affordable beer and food. Also lately their African inspired menu is just spot on during a time that no one can travel.
Excellent beer selection and an eclectic menu of in-house deights. Fun atmosphere and wide open storefront in the summer. Great friday night spot.
Amazing place to try tapa style type of food, good atmosphere, super friendly staff. I definitely recommend.
My visit was disappointing. We waited for over an hour to get our meals. I tried to explain that it was a very long wait for us. The manager comment was that so many other customers were also waiting as well. They truly need to improve their service.
Big fan of Beyond the Pale Aromatherapy and the Flora Hall NE Pale is a rival to that one! The venue is really nice and cozy. There service is great! The food has certainly improved since they first open. Had the curry sweet potato soup with homemade stout bread. Amazing!
Amazing open concept bar with great tasting beer. The American Oat Pale beer is my favorite. The food was good, but came in very small serving... See pictures attached: Jerk Chicken plate and Thai Bowl. Both good tasting but again, very small portion for the price. Still, five out of five because of the amazing atmosphere.
First time here this past weekend, and certainly won’t be my last! One of our best nights out this summer.
Love this place. Have been coming here more and more over the last year and am so grateful it exists. Excellent beer - the NEPA is my favourite, and one of the best in the city. Menu is fun, creative, and always changing. Service is generally prompt and friendly. The space is beautiful and upstairs bar is super cozy. :)
I have been wanting to visit Flora for a long time but never seemed to find a way to get to it. I was not disappointed when the time finally came. We sidled up to the end of the bar where we would spend the next three hours trying different tap offerings and dinner. The Oatmeal Stout was great, as were the various IPAs. My friend had the fish chowder and wouldn't stop raving about it. I went with the beef sandwich (listed as a beer sandwich on their website. Mistake?) but didn't love it. It was messy and the beef a little chunkier than I would have liked. Most people around us had the wings, which I will surely try next time. Overall it was great and I recommend it.
Love this place! Great beer, good food!
Came for lunch and got the citrus session ale, and the ploughman's plate. The ale was pretty good, a little on the sour side. The ploughman's plate was a much larger portion of porchetta than I expected. The plate was quite large for the price, and all the components were well thought out. It had a good variety of flavours and textures. Service was okay, felt a little slow for lunch, but it could have been the kitchen since the beer came out really quickly. it's a nice area and ambiance as well. Overall I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back.
Came here after seeing Flora is on the list of breweries/brewpubs that are part of the Craft Beer Passport app. Good beers and nice interior setup. Will definitely come back! Edit: Recently stopped by for brunch and had their delicious squash risotto and strawberry rhubarb gose. The extended patio is great -- all tables are distanced, hand sanitizer is available and each table is provided with detailed information regarding COVID regulations + contact tracing.
Biked here quite often during the summer for some yummy bites and drinks. IMO best brewery in Ottawa! They delivery so check out their website, just wish that there was more variety online but I assume it’s due to canning limitations.
Great local brew pub. Wide selection of beer styles. Even had a beer brewed with the new Kveik yeast. My favorite was the Oat Pale Ale. Food was fine, wings tasty, grilled cheese good enough. Dog friendly, lots of seating, 2 bars. Great bartender.
Fantastic craft beer and an amazing menu. They are always trying new beers and food. Hard to get to and park but worth it. We always bring a few home with us. One of the best places to stop by in the summer.
Really great vibe here. Nice spot for a pint, really good beer (try the stout). Unpretentious staff and atmosphere and in a really cool location.
Flora Hall's menu during COVID-19 is food for the soul and the curb side pick-up is very smooth. We had the roast chicken dinner and it was delicious and great value. The North East IPA is delicious, crisp and fresh.
Was our third time here. Another good experience albeit not as good as our first two. Their beer is pretty good and the food is generally excellent. It's nice that their food menu changes regularly but that means you can't always order something you enjoyed last time. On this visit, in addition to beer, we also ordered some cocktails - old fashioned. They use Buffalo trace and had just the right hint of sweetness. It looks like sub sour cherries for amarena cherries but not a big deal. We actually liked the cocktails better than the beer. The food was very good. The surf and turf of beef tartar should be advertised as a large appetizer for sharing. Way too much tartar for one. They were also out of some of the items they cook on their smoker. They had to come back to the table twice to tell us that two different dishes we ordered were sold out. Makes sense for something that takes so long to cook. The sliders were excellent as were the chicken skins and Street corn. The pickled asparagus and the bacon and peanuts weren't great. Knocked off one star because the service was incredibly slow. They looked short staffed. Our waiter had sweat beading on his forehead cause he was speed walking and hustling. Not his fault but I think they could use a couple more people tending to the bar and tables.
The layout works well with a bar on 2 floors. It was busy but the staff was very accommodating. The beers are some of the best around. Need to visit again to try the food!
We were very pleasantly surprised by the menu. Came for beer, stayed for the food and had great experience! Everything was delicious and staff members were super friendly and helpful
I stopped here with a friend for a quick bite and drink and absolutely love the place. The decor is a fantastic mix of old and modern and the ambiance of the place is great. I sat at the upper level overseeing the entire restaurant which was great view. I'm no beer connoisseur but I enjoyed both beers I tried (personally not a fan of beers with too much hop which seems to be the go-to for a lot of craft beer). I tried the Farmhouse Saison and the North East IPA. For food we shared a pizza and spiced crunchy fish fritters. While portion sizes are not very big, both delicious! Lastly, the service.... For me it was an easy 5 stars! The waiter was informed about the beer and checked up on us at the absolute perfect frequency. I didn't feel I was interrupted too many times nor did I feel like I had to look for him (guy with I think a red beard). This is the second week they've been open and the place was packed by 8 pm on a Wednesday. I highly recommend checking this place out and I will certainly be back! The photos posted are great representation of the food served. Hence I didn't post any new ones. :)
The beers are good, the place is cute and the staff is nice. Definitely adding it to our fav places. On the left, the Belgian table beer and, on the right, the Nelson Sauvin moutere DDH IPA.
Definitely will come to check this place again. Just stopped to say hello to my friends, noticed the food is amazing and staff is so friendly.
We popped in for Saturday lunch, and were incredibly impressed by the service, the food, and the beer selection! Absolutely outstanding meals, wow, we'll definitely be back again and again to sample everything.
Staff is super friendly, beer is good, and the space is gorgeous. The menu is great but the food itself falls short of a home run. It's not necessarily bad, but could use a little oomph.
We love Flora Hall !! They have a patio open on the weekend taking up the whole street, with plenty of space for social distancing (and delicious beer at the same time !). Their staff is going above and beyond to follow all of the rules to keep everyone safe (masks while walking to the bathroom, very clear signage for walking directions, great communication of the rules with each guest). We got wonderful, efficient, and friendly service from Tyler who gave us perfect beer recommendations and a great experience. We will be back !
Great beer, excellent but limited selection food. Probably the best food of any craft beer place in Ottawa!
A great local brewpub! It's a cool location in a converted fire hall. The atmosphere is great in the summer when they open their large garage doors. They have a great selection of beers and also very tasty food on the menu! Definitely a favourite place to go.
Great service. Didn't order food but it looked much fancier than I was expecting. Beers were good.
EDITED to add comments: we very much enjoyed our visit to Flora Hall. My partner and I were visiting Ottawa from the UK, and were on the lookout for local breweries to sample. The venue was great - I love a brewery where you can have a drink whilst overlooking all the equipment. I only had time for one beer, the oatmeal stout, which - whilst good - didn't do anything exceptional to stand out. However, when I'm next in the city I intend to come back and try a greater range of their beers to get a better impression.
Flora Hall Brewing is a microbrewery that opened about a year and a half ago. The location is spacious and clean. There are usually eight beers on tap plus one or two guest beers from other microbreweries. The selection covers diverse types from stouts to bitters. You can also purchase ciders and wines. There is also a small but decent selection of small meals. Prices are very reasonable. Service is outstandingly friendly and helpful.
Had bad service both times I went there, food it ok, beer is good. Kind of pricey, I want to say the atmosphere is good because the inside is cool, but because of the service I wasn't super happy about it. So a generous 3 stars. Hopefully your experience is better.
Great covid patio! It's really well spaced out so if you're a nervous nelly like me then you'll feel very comfortable here. Always great service and beer
What a place! Thank you so much for having me If you’re visiting Ottawa don’t miss out this gem
We had a great time here having a few drinks and even a small tour of the brewery. Many thanks!
Seems like a great place for a drink and a snack. Went right after work. It was super packed which made it crazy crazy loud, despite the wall door being open. Will give it another go at a different time.
Very good food! Must try new tater tots very delicious!! BBQ FOOD IS GREAT ???? HOMEMADE BUNS, KETCHUP AND ALL!! . SAFE PICK UP ASWELL ! EAT & DRINK LOCAL
Good food, good choice of own brewed beers. My colleague liked a lot the Bohemian beer, I was less a fan of the blackberry sour. Having kombucha on tap is good. Downside of the goat meat on gnocchi was that goat meat really oily. Gnocchi themselves very nice. Would recommend. Pricey.
Man I love this place. I used to live on Flora, and if time and space could be transposed I would probably not be where I am today; that is to say, sober. If someone were to drop you off here in a darkened cab without a view and possibly after a long plane ride, you would swear you were in a cool part of San Francisco, Brooklyn or Portland. The food is better than it has any right to be. There is upstairs seating. The bar staff will give good recommendations. It is too loud and crowded, and yet still worth going with friends to make aspiring aging hipsters feel young and cooler than they have any right to be.
Great beer and food, friendly service. They have good protocols in place for the pandemic.
Great new spot right in our neighborhood. Very comfortable vibe. Great cocktail and beer selection and a small menu of sharing plate style items. We had the ploughman's platter, which was delicious. Will be coming back to sure.
Great spot to meet up with friends. The building is very cool and industrial looking, and there is a nice blend of seating/standing area depending on your group size. The small plates are yummy but they are a bit pricey so don't go on an empty stomach! Another neighbourhood gem that makes Centrewtown so awesome.
I want to love this place, I swear I really do! Right up front, I want to state that I think that many of Flora Hall's beers rank among Ottawa's best. The location is also great for anyone living in Centretown. At least half of the dozen or so times I've gone to Flora in the last few years we weren't able to get a seat and had to go elsewhere. It also seems like my first choice of beers has been consistently out whenever I do get in. I really can't hold these experiences against them, as they're products of Flora's success (and their patrons' good taste) - but it does weigh on my decisions when deciding where to go out for the night. Lastly, I recently had the Flora Quarter Pounder burger. It's quality was somewhere between McDonald's and Harvey's, and looked pretty sad alone on plate with zero sides offered to accompany it. Awful value for $12, and would urge people to skip it.
Took my best buddy here for a brew and some grub. I was expecting great beer and decent food, but we ended up crushing more plates than we did pints. The general tao wings are like an explosion of goodness in your mouth. Service was on point too! Highly recommend.
The beer on tap in incredible...but that's about it. Unfortunately, the service was sub-par and the waitress had quite the attitude. The food is tasty but the server did not know much about the small menu and just went with "everything is good" without explaining the dishes whatsoever. Additionally, the to-go beer does not have an advertised price. You have to pay at the bar for your 4-pack then get shocked by how much it costs ($17). Would recommend for a couple casual beers, as the draft beer is very good. Other than this, there is much to be desired from Flora Hall. UPDATE: The owner has responded and I have talked to him in person as well. Extremely kind, helpful, and passionate individual. All my previous complaints have been remedied, except for ONE: The same waitress is there every time and she has serious attitude problems. Have heard this from multiple people who go there. Other than this, amazing beer, food, and atmosphere.
Went for a late lunch with a baby on a Saturday. Great to now have this within walking distance. Tried most of the beers and enjoyed them all. Staff were warm and friendly and service was quick. Had baby changing facilities and great family sized benches downstairs. Only weakness was the food (small portion sizes for the price) but sure this will improve with time. Great experience and can't wait to go back.
Pretty cool spot. Beer was very good. Its $7-8 for a pint. Not a ton of seating. Food looked good and the staff was fantastic! Cool spot to check out. Have beer to go as well! Edit: there is an upstairs with more seating than I was aware of! We were at the bar and didn't see the upstairs seating. They can seat over 100 people!
Thanks Duncan. Great recommendation. Bohemian drink was fantastic. They are also pet friendly. Highly recommended. Ask Ali to speak to management and/or bookings. A+
Great staff and great beer! Looking forward to coming back someday
We came in here for a beer after dinner. This place is right around from City Goose and was perfect. Wide selection of beers, fun atmosphere and everyone was super friendly!
We ordered lunch for our team at work today and everyone was so incredibly happy with their meals. The sandwiches were full of flavor and tasty, and the salads were fresh and delicious! Thank you so much!
We visited Flora Hall for the second time tonight and I was equally impressed this time as the first :) There were lots of selections for folks with tricky dietary needs (I am gluten free/dairy free and that can be very hard to find in restaurants). We had the gazpacho, and the surf 'n turf tartare and I was blown away - so tasty! The first time we went we asked for recommendations for a cider and the server gave us two from the same local brand to compare and contrast. Service really is top notch from the host who enthusiastically greeted us both times to the servers and the food which is truly great. Thanks, folks!
Great local place. Has a nice casual ambiance with a good selection of beers. Would highly recommend it to friends. They have struck a nice unpretentious vibe of being a brewery that also offers food, but does not have the commercial feel to it. Although some may find the beers slightly more expensive, it is better than all the pedestrian pubs in Ottawa! People should check it out :)
I tend to have high food standards as I've been spoiled by good cooks in my family. This place will not dissapoint! It's such a gem of a place! The food is incredible and the prices are reasonable. Get the beet hummus with the lamb, it'll blow you away!
I am very happy that there are vegan options on the menu! The waiter was friendly and helpful in identifying which dishes were vegan. The falafel and flatbread were delicious, very filling and reasonably priced. Their menu changes often and I'm excited to try more plant-based dishes!
This place is currently serving some of the best chicken wings I've ever had, and I've had them everywhere. Flavoured with General Tso seasoning, they are meaty, crunchy, crispy, perfectly seasoned and absolutely fantastic. The beers I tasted, both the oatmeal stout and the American oat-flavoured pale ale, are excellent as well.
Great beer selection, lots of room, get there early on Friday/Saturday as it fills up!
Great ambience and drinks at Flora. Highly suggest for a nice night out with your spouse or friends!
Fantastic brewery! Visited on a recommendation from a friend, and don't regret it in the least. Really nice blend between communal tables, bar seating, and private dining. Whether you're looking for a nice dinner, or a quick pint (or both), you should definitely give it a try.
Best fish n' chips I've had in Ottawa. There was too much fish,in fact, good fries, not enough of their homemade ketchup. My companion had the ploughman's lunch which was enough for two people to share. Varied selection of beers but too many IPAs for my liking. I'm a bit of a lager lout myself. Good use of space with more seating upstairs. It was busy for a Tuesday night so get there early as they don't do reservations. Overall it's a good kitchen. Service was polite and attentive.
They have food beer here and we're open late. I had a citrus IPA that was amazing. The server was very nice. Good times.
So we thought we would try out this place today best hotdog ???? in town freshly grilled on the BBQ amazing staff and extremely safe curbside pickup I highly recommend to check them out ... We also got the chance to try there new tater tot yummy a must try ... Thank you for the great service
Flora Hall has a nice and busy atmosphere. The menu was small but great choices, and apparently changes regularly. I had the fish chowder and really enjoyed it. The beer was wonderful. The carrot cake (not your average cake) was fabulous, I especially liked the cream-cheese ice-cream that went with it instead of icing. I'll be going back for sure!
I went in there at around lunch time and was really impressed with how the place looked so I bought 4 cans of citrus session ale that they brew on site. The beer was amazing and so was the service. I would recommend to anyone to try beer from this brewery.
Fantastic food selection, great beer and top notch service. Highly recommended place to visit
Reviewing a little late; we went during summer. Good beer selection (and good beer!) but I thought the food menu was a little limited.
Service not bad, food overpriced and not well cooked or presented, beer is meh! There are much better brewers in the area
Beer was AMAZING, ribs were awesome. Guy organizing the waiting for tables was terrific. Server didnt seem interested in serving us unfortunately.
Nice new place. Great room with some decent atmosphere. The beer is somewhat average and a little pricey to which goes for the food as well considering the small portions. I will be back, after all it is still new and need to work out a few kinks!
I got into this nice little brewery today. I have asked the lady what she would suggest for me to buy. Im a big micro brewery lover. She was nice and gave me some suggestion. But I literally wanted to buy only one. They sell it in pack of four. And I said only one would be fine . Well you know what...she gave me one beer for free for me to taste it. North east IPA . My god...what an awesome product. Nice foamy bubbles showing right away that this beer as been brewed perfectly. Tropical fruit for the after taste. Smells like ananas. I will get back there for sure and will buy 4 this time haha.
I had the lamb shank with parsnip puree. It was absolutely delicious! The parsnip puree was sooo tasty and the lamb was fall off the bone juicy. Taste buds was a very tasty beer. Definitely a solid spot
Love living around the corner from this place. Such great beer and food plus the staff are always really friendly. Can't wait for thins to reopen so we can visit again.
LOVE Flora Hall!! Their beer and food are excellent! I had called ahead because I have a hard-to-accommodate dietary restriction, and they went absolutely above and beyond to make me one of the best meals I've had in Ottawa!!! So impressed!
A very nice selection of beer with an excellent food menu. Staff are friendly and enthusiastic about the offerings. All contributes to a wonderful atmosphere.
Flora Hall is the best brewpub in Ottawa. Located at the heart of Centretown in a beautifully renovated building with generous space and hygienic environment. Flora Hall’s award winning craft beers combine with a creative menu that you should not miss.
Visited a few breweries in Ottawa. Really liked this one. The oat lager and west coast IPA were excellent. Def recommend. The menu is quite extensive.
I really want to like this place because it’s a nice space with good decent and unique beer and food but the service is just terrible. I gave it three chances and always the same bad service. Don’t make me feel like you are doing me a favour by serving me, plenty of other options in the neighborhood. I’ll pass on the rude and arrogant service at Flora hall.
Really impressed with the food quality and service! Well done! I will be be back... this was a pick from my sister and didn’t know what to expect, totally worth it!
Amazing atmosphere, exceptional sours and snacks. Meals are pricey, bar was very crowded on the Friday I went. Bartenders are vibey and energetic... Not the place to go to if you're looking to chill alone (go to Waller). Go here with friends or family or the environment becomes uncomfortable, which is normal with a popular and hip location such as this.
Have come here a few times and every time I've had great food, awesome selection of beers and fantastic service.
Great beers! Great staff!! I have come here multiple times and always seem to impress whoever I'm bringing with me. They have recently released their sour, I really enjoyed it and would absolutely recommend it if you like sours. If you like IPAs, they have some really good ones too. Had the North East and it wasn't too hoppy. I found the fries a bit salty but everyone else enjoyed it (admittedly, I'm a tad bit picky with salt). They weren't playing when they said the Korean bulgogi chicken wings were spicy (and I have a really high spice tolerance), yet they still were delicious. A huge bonus, they make a good chunk of their food (if not everything) in house! The service has always been fantastic, regardless of how busy they are (and they get super busy, I usually go on Friday evenings).
TRUE WOWS. Seriously this braised lamb shank was so incredible- please keep it on the menu for the people! Our server was incredible! Love this place!
Very good beers here including a good range of cans/bottles for take away. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. They leave a water bowl out for pets which my puppy appreciates in the Summer.
Decent food, great beer and good service! Be careful if you order a cocktail though - we were charged for a double shot in a Caesar, unknowingly. (Not even sure if the drink had two shots - didn’t taste like it!). When asked, upon receiving our bill, our server brushed it off like she always does a double because a single is no fun! Not a smart move to over serve, especially if someone is DD!
My first experience with this place... I go in to have brunch with my mother and all the servers ignored us as we entered. And so we decide to seat ourselves. 15 minutes later, a server comes over and rudely asks if we were asked to be seated there. The server continued to give us attitude during our time there. Overall, it's a unique looking building but the service is terrible and therefore, we won't be going there again. There are a lot of other bars on Bank street that offer beer & food & GOOD SERVICE!
We were a group of five and sat down at one of the picnic tables downstairs. The service is just a bit slow but it was busy so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. We all had different beers, their selection is good. For food, we tasted the olives (delicious!), the malted fries with aioli (super) the hummus with flatbread (a bit too spicy and dry) the homemade ice-cream (rhum and raisins, not my favorite) and the chocolate cake (very moist but too intense with the chocolate sauce). I’ve been a few times and will continue to go, their menu is really good and with very reasonable prices for the good quality they offer!
Great atmosphere, and I did enjoy the beers that I tried. I will go back, however the service left something to be desired. Our the waitress was friendly, but on our second round, brought water instead of an English Bitter for one person in our party of three. After waiting 20 min for that glass of water and then trying to flag down the waitress again, we re-ordered the same beer, and she didn't even realize she'd forgotten it the first time. I also placed a food order that simply never arrived (and didn't appear on my bill). I think these guys are relatively new and I want to see them succeed because it's a great spot, but it did feel like they need to fix a few things to get the service running smoothly.
I'm so glad this place opened up, its exactly what our neighbourhood needed. The beer I tried was very good and pints are very reasonably priced at $7. The guest taps feature another favourite local brewery of mine, tooth and nail which is bonus points for me, and the atmosphere is great.
Good service with tasty beer. The jerk chicken wings were somewhat disappointing though. Not very saucy and the taste was more like a hot sauce than jerk spice. However the fish tacos were nice and hot and tasty.
Great beers and great food! If you're not a beer person they have wine and spirits. Love the vibe. They have a zero ibu IPA right now... Genius!
Wonderful beers, really enjoyed the sours and the IPA's were fresh. Great atmosphere, highly recommend!
Our first time at Flora Hall! Took us by surprise that the place is a lot bigger and nicer than we thought when we stepped inside. The lady who served us (I think her name was Sarah..?) was very sweet and helpful. We ordered the American Oats Pale Ales. It had some fruity taste to it and it was nice. The ribs we ordered were very filling and nice. We couldn’t finish them. The ribs weren’t of the best quality of taste, but it was great. The beans that came with it was really delicious. In my opinion, the coleslaw was meh. Overall, a good experience at Floral Hall and would visit again!
EDIT (August 2021) During covid, I had plenty of Flora Hall beers delivered, and their beer quality has not dropped one bit. Still serving excellent brews, though their selection has not changed much. That is fine; stick with what you know and do it well. As Phase 3 allowed for indoor dining, I could sense a different vibe. Their menu is *very* meat-centric. This isn't necessarily bad, but it makes for a heavy, somewhat greasy atmosphere, almost like a smokehouse. I was cycling and wanted something light, and so got BBQ corn-on-the-cob ($4, a special option, not always offered). It was tasty and well-priced, but heavy/buttery. In the past, the menu offered hummus + flatbread, fries + house ketchup, even a little olive dish. Now it's all ribs and bone marrow and barbecue. Light snacks and veg options on the menu are important as not everyone wants a full, meaty meal. Note: the service was still very good. Next is the ambiance: it's important, especially as people are returning to in-house dining. I think Flora Hall could embrace their namesake in spirit by decorating the place with flowers and houseplants. The interior just feels dank and in need of a refresh. The bathrooms, too, need some attention: cracked sink drain, doorhandles feel wobbly, stairs up to the mezzanine need paint. More nitpicking: the beer labels are boring and forgettable. The merch is lacklustre--they've got this lovely orange in their branding, why not offer a t-shirt in that colour? I'm offering criticism because I want Flora Hall to succeed. Ontario craft breweries are ubiquitous, so it's important to stand out. Flora Hall is still 5-stars because their beer is really good, but they seem to have stagnated. Hoping this review is useful as more people return to in-house dining and expect to be wowed. EDIT (January 2019): since posting my first review, I’ve returned 3 separate times with different friends/family and each experience was consistently excellent- thanks for making this my go-to spot in Ottawa! Our server Nevin was fantastic! Awesome service, knowledgeable and accommodating- Great work :) also excellent beer- seriously everything we had was 10/10 especially the sour, ordinary bitter and the oatmeal stout were great- highly recommend!
Went there last night for the first time to celebrate our daughter's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Casual atmosphere, great beers, interesting menu & friendly / attentive service.
Maybe we ordered the wrong thing… if you’re charging $18 for 3 sliders at least throw some fries of greens on the plate. Three tiny burgers with not much on them at all. A bit charred tbh. Dry hopped sour was good. Expensive and unsatisfactory lunch
The service here was amazing. Sarah was awesome! I’m definitely coming back soon.
The service and ambiance were great but the food was so deceiving… out of our 4 dishes only 1 was kinda good ..
Great design, pleasing decor. I had an excellent bowl of gazpacho soup. Cool, cold - and a little too salty. The staff were very pleasant. All were observing excellent Covid-19 countermeasures. Alas, I am an old man, and the music was too loud for me. After sending in this note, I received a delightful invitation to visit again.
Cute place with exceptionally good beer. I didn’t have much expectation but outdoor charcoal bbq lured me into this place. Enough space between tables and the place followed COVID-19 related rules. Only had drinks but will come back again for bbq.
I had the BBQ brisket, it was phenomenal the portion sizes were a bit on the smaller side which is what I expected due to their great pricing (which they could definitely charge more for due to the chefs exemplary presentation), despite the portion sizes I went on an empty stomach and I left very full due to me having a drink or two (Very good beer aswell) with my meal so that shouldn't be of concern especially with the exceptional service staff that catered to my every need especially the blonde waitress I wasnt able to get her name unfortunately but she was very kind to my girlfriend and I during our patio stay. I'd give more stars if I could.
Great brew with amazing food. Would definitely recommend the pork loin sandwich.
I had the Belgian table beer, very good low hops taste. Good food, but small menu. I think the beer is the main event when going here. I also bought some beer for home, American pale ale. Should be good
