Beautiful place, great food, live music, wonderful terrace and location

Ashley McC

Had Sunday brunch here. Patio is positively beautiful. Service was slow and a little sassy though. The slow service was understandable, but the attitude from one of the servers bringing our plates was not appreciated. Had the Wild Mushroom Benny ($16), which was delicious. Eggs were perfectly poached and I loved the touch of dill. They don’t do substitutions so I added a side salad ($6). It was good, but not worth the price. The server asked if we wanted ketchup and hot sauce, which I thought was free, but apparently it was an upsell for their homemade versions. Both were $1 each and he gave us each our own set. Really didn’t need that much for the table. Would’ve been happier with regular ketchup. I’d come back again to try the burger and experience a live show here, but make sure to always ask about extra charges.

Beautiful patio and amazing food. Best meal I had in Nelson. The mushroom tart was our favorite. The tomato mussels and miso gravy poutine was also super yummy. Nice beer and wine selection.

Guy Rose

Slid in at 4pm before the dinner rush. Enjoyed a late lunch of burger & beer. Food was delicious, portions were generous and service was warmly delivered.

Meg C

Truly an amazing place. From the food to the service, everything was exceptional. The calamari is some of the best I have ever had.

K Kealey

Service was quick and friendly plus the food is beautifully made. We had the lunch menu grassfed beef burger and the braised brisket burger - both were excellent! Fairly priced farm to table meals. Beer menu is also very good with local and coastal beers. Fancy patio area in a quiet side street as well. Would definitely come back again.????

The Smoked Old Fashioned cocktail at Pitchfork in Nelson, BC. Unlike anything I have experienced in a glass. Gabriela, the bartender/mixologist serves this with a cedar plank sitting on the top of the glass, which she removes, leaving a wisp of cedar smoke. Now, for someone like me, who has a lifelong relationship/love affair with Western Red Cedar, that alone gets one's attention. But the bouquet lingers, richly over the very smooth Bourbon cocktail. And after every last drop has been savored, I was compelled to hold on to the glass, lifting it to my nose and breathing in deeply to capture that warm smokey bouquet. I doubt there is any other smokey aroma that resonates so deeply with my soul and my heart. Even now, three hours after leaving this magical restaurant (where the food was equally compelling) it lingers in my head. I imagine in the overall population, there are relatively few people so affected by the scent of cedar smoke as I am, but in the Pacific Northwestern region of the United States and Canada, I have no doubt that many of us would be so moved by it. As I said, I have never before experienced anything like this in a glass or potable beverage.

Best burgers. Best music. Best location!

Traci R

One of the best restaurants ever! It may be a pricey place to eat but it's worth every dime. I was blown away by the quality of the food, the attention to detail and the impressive flavors. Go eat there right now, you may want to make a booking first.

Laura Lee Petsnick

This is the best place I have ever eaten at. By far the best Eggs Benedict I've ever experienced in a restaurant - it's such a hit and miss restaurant dish, but this place NAILED it. I had the benny with wild mushrooms. The savory mushrooms coupled with the lemony creaminess of the hollandaise was such an incredible pairing. Coupled with home grown roasted potatoes and house made ketchup, it was a delightful, delicious meal. The whole esthetic, the background music, the staff, the whole character of this place was just perfect. Everything complemented each other. My only sad thought is that I don't live in Nelson (or BC) and it'll be forever before I return. If and when I do, Pitchfork Eatery will be at the top of my list of reasons to. Thanks for such an incredible experience!!

Had the most delicious food & drinks here, fantastic service, atmosphere, everything top notch. Best calamari we have ever had! Everything was so fresh and interesting, made & served with care and love. Can't wait to return.

Troy Gibson

Went for brunch. Lovely patio and the food was tasty. The portions are pretty small and light but if you are looking for a light, fresh, seasonal meal, this is it!

Mackenzie Kostelyk

My go-to in this town. Superb everything. Always a complete hit. They have the recipe down for an extremely good dining experience :) well done!

A J

loved the vibe in here, great coffee, great service and the chef knows his way around the kitchen ????

I have been wanting to try the burgers here for a while. I should have come sooner as it was phenomenal. Sometimes the littlest things make the biggest difference.. like the toasted bun. The other things like the aioli and great bacon when does the killer Burger. Also.. terrific exemplary service!

Peter Hess

We shared a half order of poutine that was very delicious. The gravy was so flavourful as well as the potatoes. The cheese curds were fresh & yummy! Drinks were delightful though small portions. Overall a really lovely visit! Thank you Kristen for your recommendations ????

Mia Gardiner

Best meal I've had in B.C so far this trip. Breakfast poutine with duck. Unreal flavors, rich but balanced perfectly. Amazing drink selection with knowledgeable staff dialing in the pairings. Top notch brunch. Well done and thanks pitchfork!

Vivienne Gan

Yummy food, lovely patio, great atmosphere and attentive friendly staff! What more can you want?

Eric Harris

Great cocktails. Beautiful location up the hill. Unfortunately, the outside space was closed, because its really nice to sit there. Food is excellent quality, staff was friendly.

Christopher Anderson

Perfect-sized portions of uniquely crafted, locally-sourced food, served by friendly staff. The cocktails are also excellent. A great way to savor seasonal ingredients in a modern, cheery environment!

Jean-Marc La Flamme

I was very happy about my mushroom burger. The french fries were from unpealed potatoes but were crispy and excellent. The service was very good.

Alex Grimbley

Music way to load for dinner conversation. And the same beat all night. Outside patio so nice except foe the noise of the DJ. Service excellent. Food excellent!!!

Raj

We went for a late dinner and expectations were met! Amazing flavours and a creative menu with options for vegetarians. We sat by the window which was perfect. Try the smoked olives to start!

Cindy Braun

The best calamari I’ve ever had. The kimchi stuffed chicken is a must. When you’re done hop over to the Black Cauldron for cocktails.

J Michael Short

Amazing food and a fantastic patio.

Matthew Hagarty

Burger was really nice and the Kootenay fog cocktail was great. Girlfriend liked the poke bowl too. Pricey though, $100 for 2 mains and 2 cocktails + tip

Jessica Pursell

Great food, awesome portions and the atmosphere was fantastic. The only setback was the server. She was not overly friendly and seemed to be rushed. Maybe they were short staffed? She wasn’t rude or anything just appeared slightly inconvenienced by customers.

melanie laurene

If your looking for great service from Max and charming atmosphere with the best eggs Benny and Mimosa check this place out you won't be disappointed. Oh so so good.

mike krumins

Thank you so much to Kelsey and the Pitchfork team last night! The venison burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had, and the beautiful music from Melody and Doug was the icing on the cake of a fantastic evening. If you're ever in Nelson you'd be hard pressed to find a better meal and atmosphere. The patio is fantastic and the interior wonderfully eclectic. I'll definitely be coming back!

Adam JD Martin

Superb all-around food and drink. Uncommonly great cocktails with some great food. Both my spouse and I remarked on one of the best soups we'd ever had. And a filthy good burger too. The heated patio is the finishing touch. Thanks for the wonderful dinner.

Anna Korsun

Another great eating experience in Nelson. We enjoyed our meal.

Michael Hatton

Went here with a group of friends for my 19th on a ski trip and I'm so glad we did! Felt like God and the EPA were smiling at me as we at at such a sustainable farm to table joint! Great food, great taps from the surrounding area! Our server was wonderful too! Will be returning promptly one the borders are open!

Millcent Trinidad

Overpriced with a small selection. The food was average, not worth the price. The mussels were good. But the main dishes are very mediocre, too much dressing, bland and the tofu bowl was just disappointing. The service was very good, but there are better places to eat. The wine list was limited and over priced. Skip this one.

Chloe Krolak

From all the reviews I was expecting to be wowed...but was quite disappointed by our dining experience this evening. The quality of fish in the salmon tartare dish did not taste fresh at all. From someone who grew up eating fresh fish on the westcoast, I would not expect a restaurant claiming “farm to table” having to mask the freshness with an abundance of sauce/aioli. The mushroom burger was mediocre.

Anthony Peck

Delicious food and great service! The lady at the bar knows her stuff!

Katherine Connolly

Very cool setting and friendly staff. Cocktails were amazing. Steak (flank) was a mediocre cut for the $40 price. Calamari app breading was undercooked but flavorful. Could have just been an off night for the kitchen.

Shoolin Saini

Great service and cocktails. Calamari was by far the best, love the addition of candied salmon and sauce. Mains were a massive letdown at the price. Fish of the day, tuna was just a large cold hunk on lettuce. Stick with the burger, it's a solid choice.

Kirk Chantraine

One of the best calamari I ever had. + a very interesting smoked tomato and qunioa soup.

Christine Valdes

This was our first experience at Pitchfork and the location is pretty sweet. It was incredibly hot out and we were happy to sit inside. Lots of lovely art and woodwork to enjoy. We had a lovely crispy lion's mane and oyster mushrooms to start- super delish! I could eat them all day long. I had a wonderful lavender lemonade and my guest had a glass of Chardonnay (that she didn't particularly like). My friend and I shared a mushroom burger and fries- which was a little lacklustre. The burger itself was kind of soggy which is disappointing as veggie burgers are pretty simple to nail. Very friendly and chipper service. I would go back for sure. Looks like they will have lots of great music events post covid. Yay!

Kate Filion

Logan Long

Was so good, good portions a decent pricing. Amazing staff, friendly.

Tim Murrell

Great dinner here. Mushroom burger was great. Patio was heated and had a lovely ambiance. They had live music which was great! We will be back

Cynthia Givens

We found pitchfork looking for a some local flavor and wow! It looks like a hidden gem when you see it in the back of the parking lot. We did not have reservations but the bar had enough seats for the four of us and more, we got the chance to see the magic behind the bar. All of our food was delicious and pretty quick! If your in the area I would definitely get some reservations and be ready for a great meal!

Kitty Lau

I couldn't be bothered to take a before pic only because it looked amazing and couldn't wait to eat it. However this was the best breakfast poutine I've ever had! (Best poutine in general I've ever had) Great atmosphere, amazing service and definitely some of the tastiest food and cocktails I've had!

Alison Ensworth

Food and service were excellent. We sat outside on their beautiful patio. Ordered brunch and lunch menu items - both were delicious. Also had a homemade ginger ale. Would definitely recommend and return.

Natalia D

The atmosphere is perfect for a nice dinner. Small and intimate with space between tables, warm brick and reclaimed wood make this place a new favorite for me. The service was excellent and the food was beautifully presented and delish!

Braedan Dale

I can't stop thinking about the meal we had there the other week! Amazing service, incredible food, lovely atmosphere. I can't wait for our next special occasion so we can go back!

Tom De Pauw

Great food! We got Brisket Benny Eggs and the Mushroom Tart with delicious salad dressing. Service wasn’t great as they almost forgot about our tea and the Caesar cocktail was too spicy. It’s still a great place with a nice view of Nelson

Michael Dowie

The beauty of this particular brunch dish was the distinctive flavors of the segregated items on the plate. Perfectly poached eggs that burst with just the right amount of pressure showering it's golden yoke onto the avocado cashew salsa below. The 'new' potatoes were seasoned and cooked just right. Lastly, the fruit was fresh and crisp. As for the venue, the ambiance was warm, the music was filled with soul and the server was authentic and grateful to be here in Nelson, as am I. As a first experience at Pitchfork, I'll be back.

Zoe Dagneault

Really fun cocktails, great patio, nice atmosphere, friendly service. A bit pricey but the portions are big. I’d recommend to a friend ????

Robert Robinson

This place is incredible. Amazing food, and a really relaxed atmosphere. We tried every appetizer on the menu as well as a main course, and everything was delightful. Will be returning soon!

It is now 2022, I know in my heart I should have written this review earlier. Having just received a note from Google that I now have 10,000 followers of my reviews. Who would have thought? It has prodded me to get caught up on my reviews. I have been visiting Nelson for the past 60 plus years, I have seen both the good and not so good in the evolution process Nelson is going through and has gone through. Most of my time in Nelson is spent on the grandmother’s farm in Blewett. During my visits I very much look forward to enjoying the many fine eating establishments in the area. Unfortunately, this restaurant The Pitchfork I will not be able review, due to what I believe is Bigoted, Bias, and Discrimatory behavior toward individuals who have physical disabilities. In August of 2021 I was visiting my grandmothers farm in Blewett. While visiting, one of my favorite restaurants in Nelson is BiBo’s. I was disappointed that it was no longer open, but pleasantly surprised to see that new owners had taken it over and it is now The Pitchfork. I looked online at their menu, it looked quite nice. I proceeded to call, and make a reservation, during this call I asked if they had Handy Cap access, The lady who took my call said No, but that if I wanted, I could get take out. I responded to her, how would that work, as you do not have handy cap access how would I pick up my order. CLICK!! The line went dead. This is the exact same response I received from their neighbor restaurant the Black Cauldron; they must share the same hostess. The following day I reached out to the City of Nelson. I wanted to know if there were any City Ordinances around handy cap access. As there was a new owner and quite possibly some renovations completed, were there any requirements to provide handy cap access. I will spare you all the details of the conversation. The just of the conversation, is the new owns were fully aware of what could and could not be done with in the building codes, so as to avoid having to provide handy cap access. Yes, the city had a discussion with the owners around handy cap access. The city was open and willing to support handy cap access. The impression the person who was part of this discussion came away with, was that the owners had NO interest providing this access. I cannot comment on the food here, what I can share is my experience of being discriminated against due to a physical disability. So as 2022 moves forward, and you are making dinning decisions, please know that in patronizing this establishment you are supporting a business that openly and willing/knowingly discriminates against individuals with physical disabilities. They are not alone, their neighbor restaurant The Black Cauldron, I had the exact same experience at. The good thing is that there are many eating establishment in Nelson that welcome people with disabilities. The Pitchfork in my opinion is not one of them.

Food was really good, just a little pricey. Don't recommend eating here if you have a baby, the booth was tiny and we couldnt even fit the car seat next to us. The waitress was not very friendly, almost had no emotion at all and didn't even say thank you after we tipped $23. But the homemade cola was the best I've ever had!

Stephanie K

Really wonderful experience. I wish I'd taken more photos even though the lighting sucked for food photos. The bread with the oil and vinegar? Soooooo good. I had the Old Growth cocktail ???? which I LOVED. Beautiful smokiness. The Pitchfork burger with poutine (pictured) was fantastic. My friends had the arctic char and stuffed chicken breast which were also really well done. We "accidentally" ended up with all three desserts which we agreed were all better with some extra salt.

Arthur M

Ok. Nothing more. Tofu bowl was overpriced. Mushrooms too oily. Cool vibe and nice service but the 30% tip option made me chuckle.

Aidan Faught

Good food, but somewhat disdainful service. We were a well-dressed, middle-aged group of 2 couples. From the start we were made to feel like we were sub-par - perhaps for not being trendy tattooed hipsters like the wait staff? There was a vague disdain from the hostess, like it was our reward to secure a table. When there was a problem with one meal in the order, the server was passive aggressive, pushing back defensively, but fixed the problem. All the other meals were good.

Lillian Shackelly

Very good food and well though out cocktails. Went and had olives, beans & scapes and the vegetarian enchiladas. All we're very good, great seasoning and well cooked. Would happily return!

Jennifer Jennings

Top notch foodery. Who else serves venison burgers! And it was excellent; just enough of a gamey taste to remind you this ain't no regular 1/2 pound of meat. The duck leg is so tender, the meat falls off just looking at it. And the goat cheese and pumpkin seed dips are so creamy and tasty I'm still thinking about them. The bar tender is a chemistry wiz if you let him make the choices for you. This place is the total package for special and not so special occasions.

Cameron Bond

We got a recommendation from a local to try this place. Did not disappoint. The decor is fantastic, intimate and warm. Our server Jai, was spectacular. He made out cocktails, which were incredible. Talked about the restaurant and was all around an excellent host. The food was delicious. We both got the catch of the day. It's always amazing when a restaurant can take an amazing fish and blow you away with the sides. I don't even like potatoes and I wanted to lick the plate. Will definitely be back and will recommend to all my friends.

Larry N

Most of the food here was pretty good. The only complaint I have is that there was way too much hollandaise on my eggs benedict and it drowned everything else, but the hollandaise itself was nice.

Mia Jovic

This place is incredible. Sweet comfy room, unreal food. I had the burger and the duck wings. Burger was definitely in my top five ever and the duck wings were UNREAL. Great service too.

T O

Exceptional vibe and experience. They know what they're doing, start to finish. Great live music trio as well....

Shane Lobsinger

Ate here with my partner on Sep 14th, really nice atmosphere. Staff were all great. I heard talk of a great burger in this place so I had the Venison burger and my girlfriend had the mushroom burger. I can confirm my Venison burger was the BEST burger I've ever had. I think my girlfriend slightly wished she has ordered the fish of the day when she saw it on another table but she also very much enjoyed her meal. Highly recommended. No complaints.

Patrick H

We have been looking forward to dining at Pitchfork Eatery for a while, and we were not disappointed. We arrived during Brunch, and the menu choices were all appetizing. Our meal (very delicious burgers!) was served quickly, and it was as delicious as it was lovely to look at. The selection of local craft beer was also a nice bonus. We're very eager to plan a dinner visit in the near future.

Stacey Wurst

Unreal meal for brunch. My 4 year old said "dad make sure you leave a good review for this place!!" I had the breakfast poutine and it was top notch. Group of 5 all happily satisfied.

Asha DeLisle

We sat at the bar with Gareth making us fabulous cocktails. It was so awesome to interact with a bartender again. Cocktails were awesome, food was excellent and service was spectacular. Definitely a Must repeat experience

Justine Yiu

Super quaint little place - we only stopped in for cocktails which were fantastic! A bit pricey for the amount you get but you won't be disappointed because they taste delicious!!

Riza Satilmis

Small interior but decorated nicely. Bit on the pricier side of things but the food is very good, went for brunch and can recommend the pulled pork Benny.

duane hideg

Very professional service, very tasty food and cocktails. Small but well chosen wine list, great patio with a view of town, and neighborhood kitties carousing with the outdoor patrons. The garden salad was actually the standout dish for me, high quality produce for sure. Maybe a little pricey, considering the abundance of equally great but lower priced food in this town.

Doug Higgins

Excellent dinner served with fresh ingredients. Would highly recommend the braised duck leg and the harvest salad. Don't leave before sampling the decadent hazelnut torte. Professional service and a laid back chill vibe.
