Food was good here. It had a real Mexico flavour to them and felt authentic. The setup was reasonable but there was a fair bit of sun we had to deal with and the staff were really nice. The price was pretty high for the product, hence the lower review. I think it was probably the most expensive stop in Nelson. The margaritas were 15 dollars each. We will probably check out something different the next time we are in town.

The food is great, tacos are a bit on the small side for the price though especially compared to what you can get in the city. One star gets taken off for making the default tip options on the debit machine 22%, 20%, and 18%. To select less you have to select other. I'm sure lots of people select the 22% because it's the first option.

This is my favourite restaurant in Nelson. The food is delicious and not too spicy. If you like Tacos, go on Tuesdays, they have a great special. Their salads are good, I usually get the house salad. The atmosphere is upbeat and lively. They always have great music playing. If you're looking for b something quiet and romantic, this isn't it. Lovely for groups of friends.

Great stop for our first meal in Nelson! Loved our waiter (cannot remember his name sorry) and the food was great too. The tacos were very interesting, especially their special that day. We were feeling too tired for drinks but I'm sure it would have been a great place to drink too. Must go if you are ever in Nelson.

This was not a good dining experience. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was wonderful and entertaining. The cocktails and mezcal were delicious. Unfortunately, the service and food were terrible. They forgot one of our appetizers, and after we reminded them, it was brought to us after we had finished our main course. The food took a long time to arrive, the food was bland, and it was overpriced for the poor quality. One of the biggest disappointments was the fact that they serve industrially produced chips that taste like cardboard instead of making their own in house. The tacos were underwhelming. Tiny portions, no flavour, and cold. I did not enjoy any of the food that we ate here. There are some good staff members, but the restaurant needs to address their food quality. I would not return.

Drinks are great! Tacos were tasty enough I think. The portion for $3.95 was 2 bites. No kidding! I had the Salad of the day which was fresh, but I hope they up there game on the salad dressing, it was very bland. Service was ok. You wouldn't want to be in a hurray.

This place is fantastic. The ambiance, the service ...but the food is exceptional. I am not a big Mexican food eater and I don't eat rice or bread but they catered to my diet with a cheese shell! A must see when you're here!

We stopped in Nelson, BC for the day and came across this quaint little Mexican/Latin American Cantina. It was a beautiful day so we sat on their patio. Good service with a great selection of Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and quesadillas. Home made corn Tortillas. :) Have the Tres Leche Cake for dessert. It is AWESOME!!!

Bomb tacos with unique flavors. Loved the ahi tuna tostada as well. Enjoyed a signature cocktail that was gin and mezcal shook with a few other tasty things including an egg white for the beautiful frothy look topped with basil. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed to work together serving tables - the only hitch was getting our tabs & cashing out which really just took patience and still deserves 5 stars.

Cantina Del Centro is a very busy Mexican Gastro Pub atmosphere. There was definitely a wait for a table but the hostess took our phone number and we were able to pop down the street to have a drink while we waited. I opted to go for their burger special they had on that night (who orders a burger at a Mexican restaurant?!!) and it was probably, to date, the best burger I've had in BC. I also got to try some tacos from my friends and they were unbelievable as well. The asada was wicked as was the carnitas. I definitely recommend this place for everyone!

You know, the food business is getting quite competitive in this town now. This place does a solid business and the food is pretty good. The quac is tasty, but I have to say the tacos were....bland. They shouldn't have been. They sound great on the menu, but lacked seasoning. I needed Salsa verde and rojo on everything just to make them more enjoyable. Supposedly served "street food" style with 2 soft shells; the extra shell is pointless. Maybe the regulars have sensitive palates and don't like spices.

My dad raved about this place when he came back from a motorcycle meetup, so he took my mum and I out here on our drive through to Calgary. I had the pork and lamb tacos which were both really great and just enough food to tide me over for lunch. We were attended to immediately by what we later found out was the bartender, but had a bit of confusion over who was our actual server. We had to flag down a waitress who sounded like she was peeved that we got her attention. She begrudgingly told us that someone else was our server, but we'd been waiting for an easy 7 or 8 minutes without menus in the small half empty restaurant. She brought us our menus and we didn't see someone again for another 8 minutes. If that hadn't happened I'd have given them 5 stars.

Awesome tacos. Great service. Delicious margaritas. Lots of menu choices, we only got tacos. My favorite- The Bean and chicken mole. I will say that the "Al Pastor" taco was not that great. The spices (maybe allspice) were overpowering. Waaay to strong for the pork. Everything else was great...5 stars even with the Al Pastor taco. Definitely give this place a try!

If you haven't experienced the Avocado taco... you have no idea what you're missing in life! We've hooked all of our friends and family on it and I swear they come to visit just so they can go to Cantina again! Also the staff is absolutely top notch! The patio is also amazing in the summer and they always bring a nice cold bowl of water for our pup when we stop in for a cold one and quick taco :) *Side note- they make amazing caesars as well!*

The service was so slow! We were doing a motorcycle ride and wanted to stop for a quick bite. It was not so quick. 2PM on a Monday and it took 1 hour. I had the cucumber jalapeño margarita. It was well balanced and delicious. They even had non alcoholic cocktails. We were glad we ordered chips and guac because the service was so slow. The guac tasted like it was store bought and not special. The tacos are super tiny. I was impressed with the Barbacoa taco. The lamb was braised nicely and went well with the rojo salsa. The camarón tacos went well with the mango habanero salsa. The waitress didn’t explain any of the sauces. The food was ok, but not enough to redeem for the bad service. We wouldn’t come back again.

The tacos are a little smaller, but they don’t skimp in the meat, and the salsas are fantastic! The margaritas are also just the perfect strength. Great service too from Lily! Very popular place with a great little patio. All the employees were quite nice, although drinks took some time and we definitely would have ordered more if timing had been better. Cocktails were great. Food was mediocre. We had many tacos and none were very good, all the meat was dry and bland. I liked the fried avocado/kimchi taco more than any of the Meat options, yet my vegetarian friend didn't like the veg taco more than her quesadilla, which she said was fine. Boyfriend had the burger and sweet potato fries, and it was probably the best item. But not definitely. All in all we had an okay time. It was my one dinner in Nelson and I want to believe the city has better food!

I travelled to Nelson on a Motorcycle trip with friends, one of which had been here only months before. He was unwavering on our group going to this restaurant for dinner and highly recommended the ginger beer. I as well as another rider in the group have celiacs so a call was placed prior and they were happy to advise that there was a large selection of items on the menu to accommodate us. We walked there and were pleasantly surprised when even though we were ordering out they let us sit at an empty table and have drinks until our food was ready. The waiter we had (who I forgot to grab a name) was an amazing host, he made the experience as good as possible, made sure that everything we ordered was gluten free and even asked the Brew master who made the ginger beer if it was Gluten free, which thankfully it was. The ginger beer here is the single most delicious drink I have ever had and non alcoholic so good for everyone of all ages. I only wish I could purchase some to take home with me but I would drink it so fast it wouldn’t make it very far. I then had the vegan gluten free tacos which were absolutely fantastic, I can’t believe they are able to make such a good soft shell taco shell gluten free that was that good. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone but if your are celiac or eat a gluten free diet you will be very happy here!!

But the really bothersome thing was their playlist,,, does one really have to listen to “My d1ck” By Mickey Avalon while having a relaxed dinner? That’s what happens when you let youngsters loose without supervising management. And yes the annoying intercom between the front and the kitchen that sounds like a P.A. system.

Terrible service. We has two small dogs we asked if we could take them on the patio & were told no. When we came back later to pick up our take out the were dogs on the patio. When we asked for a menu the host pointed to the smart phone icon & said Don't you have a smart phone! We had to ask for a paper menu & host grudgingly went to get one. The food was over priced & the request for a large tip when paying was outrageous. I will tip what I think is appropriate. I finally found a server who showed me how to apply the tip I wanted to give. I will not be back when I'm in town!

I Came for birthday dinner the restraunt still has Good food! But service killed it for us spending so much expect better. Seats were super uncomfortable hard stools with a uncomfortable grove in them and no padding whatsoever. We Asked waitress to switch tabled and were told they would let us know when one was free but was never offered when a table became avilable. No guacamoley odd for a mexican restaurant they couldn't get some from the grocery store and make some?. Sever ignored us most of the night even when drinks were clearly empty she literally checked on every table except ours and she was not very friendly. Not what i expected for the money food was the only thing keeping it from 1 star good job to the chefs!.

Ok. Well the NACHOS were awesome...but after waiting over 90 MINUTES to get a table for 6 almost anything would have tasted great. Seriously though...nachos were excellent and the rest.was.ok. Good. Not great. And when a.Mexican restaurant is out of FISH, SEAFOOD (AKA PRAWNS), GUACAMOLE AND PICO DI GALLO and RICE (SO NO BURRITOS) by 1pm...sorry, that's not really ok. I feel no need to go back. I would choose El Taco (less expensive and yummy food) over Cantina Del Centro based on this experience.

Too bad you can't rate zero stars. I visited this place a few months ago, and had a fine experience, so I decided to take my in-laws when they were visiting recently. WORST.EXPERIENCE.EVER. I was so embarrassed I took my family here. The food was horrible, the "cocktails" were just juice and there servers had no intention in ever coming back to check on us. They "accidentally" overcharged us FOUR DRINKS and when we tried to tell the server she told us we were lying! We had no choice but to pay for these extra drinks, as the whole situation was so embarrassing. NEVER AGAIN.

The staff, drinks and food is always on point. The music is delightful and the quality is consistently incredible. The design is modern casual with a comforting vibe to it that allows the flavourful atmosphere to invigorate your senses. It’s the perfect place for a date! I love their daily specials that keep things constantly fresh and exciting. Somehow they have actual Mexican style tortillas that I crave when I think of Mexico. You can literally get a taco that’s made of cheese. The hot tequila toddy’s are the perfect match for the cold weather or a sore throat. They have an apres ski happy hour for the white water lovers. Pure quality. Love love love! They are busy though, so small intimate groups are more likely to get a table.

One the best margaritas I have had in a long time (I had the ginger and cardamom, really nice to drink)! The ambiance was fun, mostly younger people but somewhat mixed. I would have preferred the tacos to be a bit warmer. The flavours overall were a bit on the bland side but the salsas were quite good, so they bumped it up a bit. Overall it was a fun night and the server was great too!

This place is ok. The drinks are good, but a little heavy handed in some flavour profiles (some of the micheladas). The tacos are ok. The Al pastor is only so so (too much cinnamon in the sauce), and any good taco spot is judged on the pastor. Burritos are good. Staff are friendly but slow. Overall average Mexican spot, not as good as the rating suggest, but certainly not a bad place to eat.

Cantina has amazing cocktails and great food. Only outside eating right now, they don't have 100% protection from the rain some seats will get wet, only half the tables have heaters as well, which was my only complaint as it got quite cold as the evening progressed and we weren't under the heaters. They have replaced the tables with picnic tables which makes it a lot more comfortable and easier for the social distance and protected seating. Service is excellent, Sam in particular was amazing and very helpful. I went with a group and we ordered the wings, trio dip, lots of drinks! The spice levels were satisfying for a group of heat lovers. For mains we had the soup, an enchilada, burrito, and few tacos. We all had a great meal and a good time :-)

if i could give zero stars i truly would. it was my first time traveling in canada, with my best friend, and we were both so excited to meet the famed canadians, known for their social acceptance and kind demeanors. instead, for our first meal, not only did we quickly realize our decision to sit at cantina del centro would put us in not only a gentrification gold mine, but also a cesspool of rude service workers. it was not only insulting that this establishment claimed to be authentic hispanic cuisine and was clearly not, my friend and i (both thoroughly immersed in mexican culture) were greeted with hostility by a waitress, putting a severe damper on our spirits. when i was made aware that the cantina did not accept american express, i was forced to run back to our hotel to get another card. our waitress proceeded to tell her colleague that i had the audacity to come into the restaurant unable to afford our meal, not only in front of my friend, but when that was clearly not the case. but what more can be expected from a restaurant serving clearly inauthentic cuisine to ignorant patrons, capitalizing off of the denegration of another cultures food.

My husband and two young kids went here for dinner last night night on a recommendation from many friends. We arrived shortly after 5 and seated right away. Our server was very attentive and kind with our kids. The tacos were delicious as were our cocktails. The only issue was that they didn’t have any chicken fingers (we ordered the chicken finger And yam fries for ourson)The serve told us that they could modify the menu to find something for him to eat. We said that just the yam fries would be fine as he probably wouldn’t eat much of the chicken finger anyways. When we got the bill we were charged $10 for yam fries (the full menu version) rather than the $7 for the kids chicken fingers and fries. I thought that when she said she would modify the menu that meant the price to accommodate a child’s meal/ not having chicken fingers. We should have said something before we left but having two small kids we were running out of time before full kid meltdown. Again, the food was delicious!

Friends. Can we just talk about the AMAZING prawn quesadilla for EIGHT DOLLARS. Fantastic flavours, fresh food, charming bartender and friendly service. My Caesar was $10 and I don't give a damn. I have Caesars at literally every restaurant I go to, and this one has to be one of my favourites. Add this place to your list, because good gracious I'll be coming back.

As someone with many years of experience working in restaurants I was unfortunately disappointed in Cantina tonight. I went to the restaurant because of the high ratings but was disappointed with the beverage, food, and service. I asked the waitress about the pina coladas and mentioned that when made right, they were my favourite to see if she’d recommend them or suggest I order something else. She recommended the drink so I ordered it. After receiving and trying it, I mentioned I didn’t really like it (because they’re more sour than sweet) to which she replied something along the lines of, “oh right you’re a connoisseur, sorry” and walked away. As a former waitress, the main point of my job was to ensure guests had the best dining experience, and Vanessa wasn’t off to a good start. Then at the end of my meal I noticed I was charged for an add on. But when I was placing my order I had asked Vanessa to omit an ingredient and she immediately asked if I wanted a side of another. I said yes, assuming she was considering it as substitution (since she didn’t mention I’d be charged for it) but it appeared on my bill as an additional charge. So when I received my bill, I mentioned all of this to her to which she simply replied “oh no, you have to pay for it.” So I won’t be paying a visit to Cantina again. And to be honest, I wish I’d saved the $80 and had gone for fast food instead where I would have known exactly what I’d be getting and you always know when you’re paying for add ons. Maybe you should avoid the disappointment and do the same...

The food was amazing and a great value. There where tons of options and even some not so Mexican dishes. The kids menu was great to and well priced. The drinks where all top self pricing and I am not sure what brand they use. I was a little disappointed that my 7 dollar vergin drink was 90 percent ice. I watched the bar tender under poor a few drinks then just add more ice. The staff was good but I got the feeling they didn't want to be there. Totally worth going for the food, it makes up for the other short comings.

I remember having a great meal here in the past, but unfortunately our last visit was not very good. Even though the staff is very friendly, the food itself was very disappointing. When we got there we asked if they have any vegan options - they said they have lots. In reality vegan options just meant removing any non-vegan items from the dishes - so we ended up with very plain tacos, plus the guacamole tasted store bought and not homemade. If you are vegan I would not recommend this place - there are so many ways to make delicious vegan food and this was not the case

I like that you can order tacos by the each according to how hungry you are. They have an amazing menu of tequila and mezcal. The flavors are well balanced and interesting. It is a popular spot and can be noisy.

Had dinner here a few nights ago with a friend and I ordered a few tacos, definitely the best tacos I've had! But my friend ordered the enchiladas and they were tiny, didn't come with a salad or anything, just 3 lonely bean enchiladas for 30% more than my 3 tacos....didn't quite get the math on that one. They were yummy but surprisingly small. Also had the passion margarita, it was delicious! Would go back for tacos and drinks again!

Amazing margaritas, 4 for 3 taco Tuesday with delicious variety of protein fillings. The Argentinian style beef cooked in red wine with chimichurri sauce was my favorite, followed closely by the mint lime carnitas. Patio seating and friendly staff made this an enjoyable early evening dinner stop in Nelson, BC.

Wonderful experience. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. The pescado taco was my favourite, and was super flavourful and fresh. We also tried the Holy Mole burrito which was very good as well. If you like churros I would highly recommend as they are made fresh daily! The only downside I can think of is the wait. But you will not be disappointed.

Went to get a lunch snack and bought some tacos. The portion size wasn't even big enough for a kid and the tacos were expensive. I wouldn't go back because of the small portions to price ratio. The tacos were really good and there are vegetarian options. My favourite part about this place was the decor. They have local artists featured through out the restaurant which makes it a fun experience.

This is a busy place and rightfully so. The service is excellent and the food does taste good as well. Good value. The only reason I did not give five stars is that most of the food one has to eat by hand and they don't give out cutlery. However I did see some dishes where they did get cutlery however for the most part it is served in small plates and is finger food.

The hostess was so put out to seat us, then entirely indifferent to our interests. Our waitress was good, for a busy day, but definitely didn't neglect us. Service was a little wonky in that it took about 15 minutes to find out if the tortilla soup was vegetarian and then another few minutes to order it. We were sat at the bar and in don't think the bartender was paying much attention - rather mainly to a more lively group at the end of the bar. Still, great food and will return!

Order the enchiladas if you love that dish - they are a touch different then any other Mexican place but super delicious. Tacos are served in double corn tortilla just like in Mexico. This restaurant is amazing!! Jamie, behind the bar was our server, and he and the rest of the staff were amazingly friendly and welcoming! The cucumber jalapeno margarita is fantastic! I had the tacos Al pastor and tacos camaron - while both were amazing, the camaron was the clear winner. Easily the best dish of the night was my boyfriend's chicken enchiladas, which he said made him think of his dad and what his reaction would be. Beautiful meal, can't say enough good things about our experience!!

If you've ever been to Mezcal in Vancouver, you will find a similar look in Cantina Del Centro. Menu is clean, easy to read, and overall the food is delicious. Drink menu is good, even better if you're looking for some tequila. I've been to Cantina over 15 times and have never been disappointed by service or food.
