Figured we would try this place this evening as they have received some recent favorable reviews. The decor is pleasing, the ambience was nice, the chairs were very very uncomfortable. The server was very friendly, knowledgable, and prompt. They food was nothing special. We tried the croquettes, beet salad, spatzle, and schnitzel. The croquettes lacked any flavor and were just very bland. The salad was very simple and didn't seem well paired as far as flavor. The pork schnitzel was tasty and a very large portion. The spatzle was a concealed bowl of mush. We returned this back to the kitchen and sort of lost our appetite afterwards. The wine selection was good, and we had a nice bottle of organic red wine. All in all it has the makings of a nice place but the food was sub par and fell quite short of expectations. Probably won't go back to try any other dishes.

Lovely meal. Several well cooked dishes with beautiful flavour pairings, very attentive and personal service from Luke, and a fantastic bottle of wine. Excellent place for a special occasion meal. We'd gone when they first opened and were okay with our meal but not wowed, this experience blew that one out of the water. Exceptional evening.

An exceptional experience. Friendly, personable staff. We were seated quickly, and had a chance to check out the wide variety of drinks available. The menu itself is well priced, diverse, and utilizes locally sourced, organic ingredients. We especially loved the pork shoulder, and the Marquise St. Honore is a fantastic dessert. The atmosphere is also prime, beautifully refurbished, and great music. We plan to come again soon!

The wine list and drink menu are well designed. We came on a very hot day and it was uncomfortably hot inside the restaurant. The food itself was good - but not stunning - anf it took forever to come out. Initially started with idea to order several courses, but after a while our entire party were ready to go someplace else.

What a disappointment. Flavours were way off. Pork belly dish was way too salty. Beef tenderloin had jus that tasted burnt. Artic char escabeche was way too sour, I know what escabeche is, and that was not it. I can go on but won't. Servers were polite, as they should, and ambiance was ok.

Went there last night with a couple friends had an amazing experience staff was knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings, without that pretentious vibe that you sometimes get from a restaurant of this quality. The shareables all had a distinct visual, olfactory, and gustatory feel. The environment is Pleasant modern and relaxing with lovely acoustics I felt like my conversations were not intruding upon my neighbors. I would greatly recommend the sourdough bread and cheese as well as the chicken drumettes and lamb belly dishes. I left full and that I received a great deal for what I paid. If you enjoy food in Winnipeg you should check out the Oxbow.

My wife and I tried The Oxbow out over the weekend and really quite enjoyed it. The restaurant picks up on the trend of small sharing plates. There are currently 14 dishes on the menu of which 7 are vegetarian. The Oxbow owners have a joint relationship with Bergmann Farms who directly supply this farm to table initiative. As such, the menu is seasonal and subject to change with what's available and fresh - always a good thing! There's a select list of craft type classic cocktails, each with a house twist as well as beer offerings, ciders and a very extensive wine list. The wines are especially interesting as they feature only wines which have been minimally processed or altered - so no filtering and minimal or no use of sulphites - generally no monkeying around! We started with the pickeral croquettes with smoked fennel aioli. The two pieces sitting on top of a schmear of aioli were delicious with a light airy filling of potato and pickerel and a subtle liquorice smokiness from the fennel. A good start! Next was the beef tartare with mushroom finished with some grated smoked egg yolk. The tartare was placed on top of a house made slice of grilled bread. We both agreed this was tasty but this is a rich dish and I got that sense after 3 bites. I felt it was a touch heavy handed being presented on the bread and perhaps would have benefited from a lighter overall carrier. Next up the barley risotto. The first bite caught us by surprise. Lovely, slightly chewy texture with pieces of delicate oyster mushrooms torn in. The surprise came in the creamy carrot broth used to prepare the dish. It had an intense, salty rich hit which had at first association reminded us of a Knorr type of flavour - so wasn't sure about this. However, on subsequent mouthfuls the complexity of the carrots came through and we quite enjoyed it. At this point we decided to order a bottle of wine. Not knowing any of the wines our server sent over (I'm guessing) one of the owners who recommended what turned out to be a really fun and different 14.5% Spanish red. It complemented our meal extremely well - so definitely seek out the expertise. I would also mention that our dishes were sometimes brought out by different servers as they were ready and each one of them carefully and expertly explained what they were putting down in front of us. The staff here are trained and it's clear. Sidebar done - we received some pork belly, panisse (similar to polenta but made of chickpea flour) and celery root dice. The panisse was quite good and the celery root in a black garlic vinaigrette cut the richness well. The pork belly itself was a bit of a disappointment. Pork belly preparations should typically melt in your mouth. The meat layer of the belly was tough and surprisingly hard to cut with our knives. It was lightly seasoned with salt but was on the bland side overall. Our final dish was a large share made up of a lightly breaded pickerel fillet sitting on top of a celery root dice with potato, bacon, kale and drizzled chili oil. The combination of celery root, potato, bacon and kale was a knock out and paired nicely with the fish. They don't serve espresso. They should. They have two desserts available - a chocolate terrine and beignets. They also have two options for cheese plate selections. We opted for the chocolate terrine as it presented an interesting mix of flavors including pistachio, rosewater and halvah. Don't know specifically what it was but it was underwhelming. Will try the cheese offerings next time. There are a lot of options available in the share plate restaurant niche (and one still excels). The Oxbow restaurant presents itself as an honest place with no pretenses and a simple approach to its menus. This is the best way. Ingredients (and wines) stripped to their basics and prepared to highlight their essence. Oxbow clearly lives up to this ethos with its passion very evident. We look forward to returning often. Somewhere you go if you're not watching your wallet or credit card balance! The servers were very attentive and I loved the wine and virgin Five Spice Cocktail they offered. My wife and I made our first visit to Oxbo, with her sister and brother-in-law, who had already tasted the wonderful food there several times. They even knew the server from previous visits. We ordered eight or nine dishes, including the gigantic, shareable shnitzle, which was scrumptious, as well as the ravioli and the gnochii, which I sampled sparingly due to their dairy content. They were also excellent. I can't even remember the other dishes, but they were all wonderful. We split two pieces of the chocolate dessert, and it was rich, and sweet and wonderful. We can't wait to go back for round 2, soon!

We didn’t have reservations as it was a last minute decision to go out to dinner but they sat us at the bar. The tables were completely occupied. The staff people were all so genuine and helpful. Kudos to them! Our main server was Lucien and he was excellent but I believe each and every staff member either checked in on us or helped serve. We started with the smoked beet and yogurt dish that was so good. Loved the smokey flavour of the puréed beets.

They told us they would pick a menu for our table of eight and everything they picked was so good!!! We got to try a bunch of different things. I have no idea why anyone would leave a bad review. The menu is so creative yet approachable. The portion size is perfect to try multiple dishes. The price is reasonable for the ingredients and care that their team put in to curate a menu like that. I would definately come back in a heart beat with friends and family. Every element of the set menu was delicious but portions were on the small side. The wine pairings were well chosen, but for the price the volume served was less than expected (only 3-4oz).

I had the pleasure of dining in this new restaurant shortly after it opened. Great menu with lots of unique options. The atmosphere is warm, comfortable and modern. There's a sommelier on staff, and their servers were polite and helpful. The show-stopper for me was the bread pudding at the end of the meal—hands down the best I've ever tasted. Just wonderful. They've really breathed new life into this sleepy neighborhood!

The food here is exceptional! We tried the risotto, beet salad, fondue & croquettes - all were “Wow! That is SO good”. The first bite of the risotto & the fondue left me having to ask my dinner partner to repeat themselves because I was so distracted from our conversation by the insanely delicious flavours. The food was top notch, the service was great, wine was good. The meal itself was 5 stars. My only downside about this place is the seating. The bench is made for tall people I felt like a child sitting on it, and the chairs are cute but it would be very uncomfortable if you were a larger person sitting down for this meal from either side.

Went during the soft opening. A selection of local ingredients made each dish absolutely delicious, even if you don't really count prairie food as haute cuisine. I had rabbit fettucine for my main, for example, and it was delicious as hell. The decor's really nice and the cocktails/beer/wine selection is fantastic.

I wouldn't go back to the Oxbow, the experience was unpleasant and it was almost entirely down to how long everything took. I went there on a random weekend evening when it wasn't busy, but first it took forever to get a table, and then the food took forever to arrive. And then when it did it wasn't even that great. The portions were small and the whole thing was overpriced. Aside from not respecting my time nothing was explicitly bad, but there are far too many restaurants in the city to ever go back to this one. If you do decide to go, avoid window seats. They're leaky, and the last thing you need is to be cold and hungry and paying for it.

Ambience was nice, dim lighting and a woman's and gender neutral washroom. Lots of wine to choose from, but also other cocktails. Bills were accurate but as all these places, you get what you pay for. The gnocchi was unbelievably good ($24). Beets amazing. There were zero complaints on the food. Server was very friendly and accurate. Would definitely return. What would give it 5 stars? A slight more attention and a little faster food service, but again, not saying it was bad at all. Awesome service and vibes. If you're looking at the menu online, the idea is you get 4-5 plates for sharing! Food is incredible, special shout out to the schitnzel and the cold dumpling. Very cool focus on the natural wine concept. You can tell the staff believe in it.

Wonderful place with great atmosphere. They were able to slot us in on short notice without a reservation, and they notified us we would maybe need to give up our table. We only had to give it up for dessert, in which they accommodated us at the bar. All in all a lovely, delicious evening.

Our table of six ordered a range of dishes - some winners, but also several disappointments and a miss as to execution. Dishes were generally light, which was appreciated due to the four courses. The overly heavy date cake dessert was burnt, almost inedible. Deer + Almond or Chew would be better options. Space is loud, be prepared to lean in to hear each other. Service seemed overwhelmed, requests for drinks had to be repeated.

A nice little restaurant in south Osborne. The dishes are small but are really good. Four to five dishes between two people was very filling. Worth trying again.

This restaurant has potential... our food was inconsistent, some (the houlumi sp?) was delicious, the vegan dessert was awful (tasted like it was artificially flavoured) The pasta had good flavour but horrible presentation. We drank a bottle of french chardonnay that tasted alright, however later we had terrible headaches. The atmosphere is very nice and the staff were pleasant.
