Right now the firm has a score of 4.4 stars over 5 and that rating has been based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is very good, and it's founded on a high number of scores, so we may conclude that the valuation is quite faithful. If there are many people who bothered to leave their feddback when they are satisfied, it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to set feddbacks when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Winery belongs to the category of Québécois restaurant.
The perfect charming and cozy spot to have a fantastic meal. The service was incredible and the food was just as good. The three tenderloins were cooked and seasoned perfectly and the French Onion Soup was some of the best I’ve ever had. The Maple Crème Brûlée was done perfectly, not too sweet and just the perfect hint of maple.
Amazing food, top-level service and a very cozy atmosphere. I was with my partner who speaks French, but even if I wasn't the waiter was bilingual so it wouldn't have mattered. Would 100% recommend this restaurant!!!
Great food and value for money. We tried the lunch and found it way more value for money than the other restaurants we had tried on the St. Louis and around streets. Even the ambience is very soothing and the staff explained the 3 course meal options well. We ended up having lunch there 2 of the 4 days we stayed at Quebec city. Super recommend it. MAPLE PIE is a musssst have, it was just fantastic!!
I believe that management of the restaurant is really spoiled being one of the Quebec City attractions, and you will not miss a lot if you will not visit that place. The quality is low and it is really overpriced. Ordered 50$ meal and found a hair in it. Disgusting.
Awesome experience! Samuel was our server in the upstairs dining area. He was well versed in the menu as well as the history of the house turned restaurant. The dining area was cozy and a bit romantic. Very nice ambience.
Very warm and rustic atmosphere. The food was very good with a wide selection of combinations. We were there during Carnaval and they had a deal where for $20 you could have a starter, an entree, a desert, and a beer or house wine. I had the wild meat pate and Quebec meat pie and was very satisfied. Only beer options are light and dark. I got the dark and it paired nicely with the meal. Our waitress was very friendly and personable.
Wonderful service and delicious local dishes. In the heat of old Quebec, very close to Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.
Great food and friendly service. The baked beans were delicious. "Grandma's Treat" (tourtierre with fruit ketchup + meatballs with ragout) was amazing. The maple sugar pie was a bit too sweet but still good. Prices for the lunch special are very reasonable — 30$ for an appetizer, main, and dessert plus their house wine, beer, or a soft drink.
Very unique atmosphere and a historic venue, apparently built around 1667. The service was very nice, contrary to some of the negative reviews I had read. BEWARE OF PRICING as it is complicated and pricier than it may seem. In my experience I got the bison parmesan fondue, a meat pie with Caribou, deer, and beef, and for dessert a maple bread pudding. The fondue appetizer wasn't exactly what I expected. The bison fondue is NOT bison steak cubes you dip in cheese but rather a sort of bison Rangoon with parmesan cheese and little shreds of bison meat. Actually very good, but not much bison. My main dish was pretty good. I had never tried Caribou before but boy was it good! The pie crust was ample, and the only flaw in the crust is it's a bit dry. The pie filling is also a bit dry, and could use some sour fruit like cherries or cranberries to help its gamey taste. It came with a great side stew. My dessert was the maple bread pudding and it was really good. That's it. It had no real flaws. Just a great maple sauce and an even better texture. It's also worth noting that I tried the creme brulee some other people in my party ordered and the Maple flavor worked great, as it did not overpower the cream flavor, but complimented it. If that was too long and you didn't read it then basically I give it a 3.6-3.8/5 stars
We were passing by Quebec City and wanted to taste local food. It didn't disapoint. But we found the menu a little complicated with the prices. They have to explain some details and still, we got a little confused. But the place is clean. They sanitize tables and chairs as soon as the patrons leave, and the service is good. It's worth the visit.
I love this place. Food is great. Price is reasonable. The service is supurb. If anyones would like a little touch of Canadian food of the past, this is the place to be.
Nice option for traditional cuisine from Quebec. Very popular so reservations are recommended. Service was really good.
This is truly authentic Quebec cuisine. Wonderful food and great service. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The food is unique.
Very cozy ambiance. The food feels homemade and definitely worth the price (we got the lunch special and had an appetizer, main course and desert for $25) the meat pie is a must try
The place looks fabulous. Built in the early 1600s, so many people stop to take a picture. We tried the fixed price menu, and had the pea soup (not great), duck confit salad (great), strawberries and sugar (pretty good), and bread pudding (also pretty good). The wine you get a glass of to accompany was almost undrinkable... it tasted like juice, so would recommend you upgrade if you like good wine. The ambience was nice and our server terrific... very friendly. I think my average score is driven by the expectation of great food in Quebec... and this didn't have great food... it was... good.
Wonderful dinner and evening. We enjoyed their grilled lamb, French onion soup, and crab cakes. The apple cheesecake with maple sauce put it over the top.
The pea soup was good but what really stood out was GRANDMA'S TREAT (meat pie with meat balls and potatoes). If you get it between 11 and 5 you can get it as part of a three course meal and you can't beat the value ($25 including a wine or beer). You need to come here if you want to eat delicious and authentic Quebecois homestyle cooking. Still thinking about that meal...
While it looks incredibly touristy, the food was genuinely delicious and reasonably priced. The split pea soup was fantastic and the meat pie had a beautifully tender crust. Do not miss the creme brule for dessert! Even the bathrooms were a real experience as you decend into the old basement. Wonderful stop!
Service was impeccable. Our waiter was so friendly, kind and energetic. He also taught us the history of the restaurant and the building. Food was decent. It's super filling, and supposedly authentic recipe from the old 1900s?
Located in the historic Maison Jacquet, it came highly recommended and now I know why. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was excellent. If you’re looking to enjoy Quebec cuisine this the place, it’s hearty and delicious! I recommend ordering the table d'hôte and trying the onion soup, Grandma’s Treat, the duck confit poutine and the maple pie. Bon appétit!
Went once for lunch and once for dinner. Service is fantastic. Food is great. I really loved the Bison bourgougnonne and liked the salmon too. Cakes are really nice as well.
Dining experience was great. The prefix menu was a lot to choose from but costs can add up depending on what you choose. I really liked the escargot and the lamb tenderloin which had a very tasty sauce. The pea soup was enjoyable too. Service was excellent.
We were there in 2018 and we returned to Ville de Québec, having dinner here is always very good!
Bison meat beautyful taste, restaurant with begining century concept since, the waitress gave us the best attention as well.
The place is really busy! We arrived at around 1230 pm without a booking and was asked to leave my name and return in an hour's time. Thet tables were pretty close to each other. Really cheap lunch deal (3 course meal starting CAD20). Onion soup was alright, didn't like the meat pie (was quite bland), maple tart was delish.
It's a nice corner of good not expensive food in Quebec. In my opinion is one of the best where to try wild meats.
We had a set meals and they were overpriced for something that tastes like catering foods. House red was on "tap", tastes very vinegary. We shared crab cakes and smoked bison with parmesan. They were pretty much breaded and deep-fried. Second course was soup, they tasted like can foods. Chicken broth with vegetables was really salty. Then comes main course. Beef wellington tasted really tough for a medium. However, their creme brulee was amazing. I can't say the same for their apple cheese cake. The bottom part tastes like uncooked pizza dough. Very sticky, tasteless and chewy. 2 stars for kind servers and unique ambiance.
This was a great experience. My wife and I went here for her birthday on our trip to Quebec. The tasting menu was great, and the portions were adequate, we did not leave here hungry. Staff was friendly and attentive and as we learned, that is one of the oldest buildings in the fort. I will be back on our next trip to Quebec city! Thank you!
The appetizers are excellent. We have lobster and pea soup. But the main dish, they are not what we expected, the wellington is unstalted and the inside meet is too dry.
This is our first time to Quebec! We ordered lunch meal, and it’s totally worth price! It comes with one entree, a glass of wine or beer, one main course, and one dessert! Just for $20!!!!! I order their chief special, chicken breast with mushroom white sauce! And it was soooooo great! They got good chose for dessert too!
Great traditional Quebec fare. Great service. Reasonably priced fixed price menu at $20 includes wine or beer. Options to add more money to access the full a la carte menu. Sugar pie and strawberry sorbet were superb. Definitely worth a trip.
Great lunch menu, they have the most amazing chocolate cake with strawberry sauce. Seriously, I wanted to lick the plate clean, so good.
Asked about more traditional food from the area and was directed to this restaurant. were not disappointed. The friendly waiter answered our questions and I had the chef's special, braised red deer. tender with a sauce that did not cover all the deer flavor. They have a fixed price lunch with starter, main, beer or wine and desert. Very reasonable and pleasant experience.
We choose this place because we were looking for an authentic Quebec experience. To some extent, this was achieved, but, for the most part, I found it too stuffy and overpriced. The menu is extensive, but outrageously expensive, including individual entrees of over $80 (!). It's clear you are being pushed towards a prix fixe menu of roughly $50 per person. There are multiple courses for this price, so prepare to stay awhile. The food was good, not great. The service was polite but rushed (to be fair, it was very busy). This place is quite decent, but frankly somewhat pedestrian and dull. They do feed you though, as quantity is no issue. Frankly, for the money there are far more interesting choices in a town full of restaurants.
The restaurant is situated in an old building in the heart of Quebec's historical center. It is a must when we're in Quebec City, we had visited the place for over 20 year. The all-day lunch deal (appetizer, main, dessert, a glass of wine or beer) cost $23 per person before 5 pm and is an amazing deal. They kinda-sorta opted for keeping the price under control (no more game meats in the fixed-price menu), but the dishes are very tasty nonetheless.
Simple dishes and good service, you're enjoying your meal in a wooden and warm interior with a rustic fireplace. All you need while it's snowing outside. The table wine????is cheap but you know it's a table wine so it's "correct".

Heard about this restaurant from a co- worker and we weren't disappointed. The service from our waiter Sam was just great, very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. The food was awesome my wife had the pork tenderloin and I had the grandma's special (Meat pie ) . We would highly recommend this establishment to anyone
Highly recommend this restaurant if you wanna try Quebec cuisine! All staffs working here were friendly and nice. Inside was quiet even though there were lots of guests, so you can enjoy chatting with your friends with comfort. Price starts from $19.95 including a glass of wine or beer, appetizer, main and dessert. So it’s not that expensive as well. You should try!
We came here for a lunch special that included an appetizer/soup, main meal and dessert. The food was amazing, the waiter so friendly and the restaurant is just so charming with lots of thoughtful touches. We had the the Grandma Plata and the Chicken breast. Maple caramel dessert. Left very impressed and highly recommend. PS the dessert was not served on am aluminum plate. ,we were so stuffed we had to take it home :)
Fabulous restaurant for those seeking the real Quebecois gastronomic experience. Lovely quaint building. Very romantic
Service
Such a unique spot. From the architecture outside and the iconic red roof, to the slightly cramped, yet cozy decor inside, it really does stay true to it's name. Literally translated to at the ancient Canadians, it was like walking into an old world cabin decorated by everyone's favourite grandparents. The service was spectacular and the food was good. The Quebec Meat Pie had such a flaky and buttery crust and the meatball side packed such a powerful punch of flavour. The Pumpkin Soup was so light and needed a bit of salt, but overall nice and the crème brûlée was spectacular. It doesn't look caramelized, but it was and had a nice crunchy top shell.
The food tastes amazing and the personal is extremely kind. I'm definitely coming back. I think is the best option if one wants to eat some traditional and authentic Canadian food.
We enjoyed our early dinner . For $25 you received an entre meal, beer or wine and a dessert. I'm definitely coming back again!
Cozy traditional Quebec style restaurant. I would describe it as comfort food. They have a meal special that includes wine, appetizer, main course and dessert. The food was just ok but the place was comfortable and the server was nice.
It would be unfair to give this place anything but five stars. Service is always impeccable, servers are always friendly and paying close attention to you and your party. Right when you think that your experience at a classic 1700s house can't get any better, there comes the food to surprise you again. I've been to this restaurant twice, ordering a total of 6 different appetizers, main dishes and deserts. Every single one of them was such a memorable experience that is impossible to put in words. My personal favorites are the Parmesan Bison Fondue cheese cakes (appetizer), the beef Wellington and the maple pie. You need to have the maple pie, there's a reason why it's been on their menu for 53 years and counting. They also sell it to go, as a whole pie, for around $13. The pricing here isn't bad either. A full meal can go for anywhere between $19 to about $40 depending on how many dishes you pick that cost extra. This includes appetizer, main dish, desert and a glass of wine. Do yourself a favor and go here, you will not regret it.
OMG - the food was so delicious. You need to try it for yourself. $29.95 in the afternoon, including an alcoholic beverage, an appetizer, main course and dessert. Can't wait to go back.
Good variety of Quebecois food. Reasonably priced. Good location. Try the Bison
On vacation during COVID and this place is a MUST especially if you love supporting historical places! It’s a very authentic place! Not only is the building of interest because it is one of the oldest in Quebec City, it is also beautiful and has many artifacts throughout the restaurant. Super cozy, warm, inviting and the service is excellent. Last but not least, the food was great! I got the classic brunch and really enjoyed it! That ham and tourtiere! ????????????My husband loved the Bison Shepard’s pie! Comfort foods I tell ya —but really delicious, savoury comfort food! For the entrée, my husband got the cretonade de gibier and it was sooooo delicious! I enjoyed it more than the soup although it was good as well —just between the two the cretonade de gibier was awesome! It’s worth getting the special table d’hôte! Enjoy friends! Sorry the pictures are blurry but at least it also shows portion size!
It is a really, really typical French Canadian restaurant, the service was excellent, the food and portion good, a bit salty but over all good but not excellent as we expect. Onion soup not recommended, better in Paula Pizzeria.
It is cool place to have a really good time. Food is amazing. Lots of choice. The food is too much to finish it so that why I did not enjoy the dessert. I want try the dessert next time I visit Quebec city.the price is a little bit high. The service is fantastic.
Nice lunch sets. Very nice staff. Big portions. Delicious onion soup.
This is a great restaurant right near Hotel Frontenac. This a historical building with lots of antiques and charm. It provides a perfect palette of Quebec food. They provide an option for 3 starter, entree and dessert. The maple pie is the best dessert, it takes like a butter tart. The server was also Very knowledgeable in the food culture and they were very accommodating with us having a baby stroller.
Prefix menu was a great value and not bad. It came with an appetizer, entree, dessert, and a glass of wine or beer. You can upgrade it for more. I enjoyed the meal and service was friendly. Great spot in the area to stop for a quick dinner after exploring.
I loved this restaurant. They have set menus for day (22.95) or evening (49.95), on which you can add the more expensive items for additional fee. Good value and plenty of choice. Staff helpful and welcoming. Beautiful old building.
An excellent culinary experience in Quebec. The maple syrup pie was great and the service too! I will definitely come back again and I will also recommend it to my friends.
I loved everything about my experience here. Our waiter Sam was very professional. The food (escargot, salmon in puff pastry, meat pie) was delicious. The maple creme brulee was a perfect way to top off a fabulous evening.
Special Lunch for 1 - You can’t beat the price of $22.95 for wine/beer, appetizer, entree, AND dessert. I came right when they opened and there was already a line. There is a lot to choose from and of course, you can spend a little extra to get the good stuff like crab and lobster. I was satisfied with my decision - Pea soup, Québec meat pie, and the bread pudding was to die for. It was so good I came back the next day just to have to bread pudding. The service was excellent and I can’t wait to come back.
The experience at this restaurant was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere transports through time with the architecture from 1667 and 1800s. The service was exceptional considering we have many questions and our server was able to answer all our questions. Lastly, the food was flavorful and delicious. We came for a snack and ended up having a 3 course meal with a drink and tea. The whole experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the historical culture.
Food was bad. Was expecting better given the prices listed and it did not taste good at all. Beef Wellington was very over done apps were not good either. Very big tourist trap.
Food was hearty and tasty. Service was friendly. The prix fixe price was reasonable given that it included a choice of beer or wine as well as three courses. A solid choice of restaurant for dinner with an elaborate vegan option on the menu (not just vegetables!).
Beyond amazing food, incredible value and top notch service. We had the Bison fondue, escargot and the Creton, the beef Wellington, Turkey medallion and the Meat Pie and finished off with the tastiest crème brûlée. So satisfied - do check out this place and read about the history too. It is mind-blowing
Meal type
My wife and I agreed that this was by far the best food we had in old Quebec City. The escargot was delicious, I had the wild meat pie for my entree, it was incredible. My wife loved her goat cheese salad. The maple pie desert was great as well. The service was friendly and we were well taken care of throughout the meal. I highly recommend this place
Food is nice, service is ok.but tables are too crowed. It is hard to hear the conversation from the people who dine with you.
This was our first meal in Quebec. Was recommended by Google and some other reviews online. Definitely a good choice of restaurant! Great food and customer service. I love the cream pumpkin soup! I’ll recommend to my friends!
Friendly service in a historical building, serving nicely presented Canadian comfort food. Recommend the bison bourginon which comes on a pastry shell and is delish! Also, the maple bread pudding, although super sweet is to die for good! Great food, great service. A superb choice if you want to try traditional Canadian food. We are new to the area and loved it!
I would say Anciens Canadiens is a no-brainer for lunch. Their 20$ fixed price menu has rotating specials and a decent choice of permanent items. You get an appetizer, an entree, drink and a desert. Service is friendly, food is great and comes quickly, and interiors are beautiful. I would be eating there every day if I did not crave fresh salad which does not seems to be a part of ancient Canadian diet. Couple lifehacks: you need to ask for bread (which is delicious), you can substitute beer/wine with tea/coffee if alcohol is not your thing.
OMG this is the best authentic Quebecois food and their meat pie with elk and bison is amazing. If you want to try authentic Quebec faire you can't go wrong with this place
The place exceeded our expectations. Very charming ambiance and service was excellent. Food was top quality and delicious! Highly recommend the meat pie, maple bread pudding, and the onion soup. I got the menu of the day, which was excellent value for money and the selections were great. Highly recommend this place!
Delicious food and impeccable service. Oldest house in Quebec City converted to a restaurant since the 60s. We were a large group who came on short notice, they were well prepared and served us with excellence. Highly recommend the sirloin poutine as well as the cream brûlée.
Three of us shared two table d’hote dinners and a French onion soup with several glasses of the excellent house wine - more than enough food. All excellent and a great experience of Quebecan gastronomie! My first pea soup in many years and an excellent one followed by their speciality meat pie of assorted game meats accompanied by a tasty fruit sauce and vegetables including my favorite brazed red cabbage. I sampled both our desserts, an enjoyable if very sweet maple bread pudding - great texture - and a tangy blueberry pie. Just over $50 a head which was well worthwhile for a great culinary experience.
Maxime was a wonderful waiter. Very informative and he was a water ninja which was perfect for such a hot day!
The Maple syrup pie was to die for, best I've ever had (so good we bought a bunch of whole pies to take home!). Excellent service and delicious Quebecois fare. The French onion soup was delicious with a rich, oniony broth. Definitely a must-visit.
A perfect place to experience the traditional Quebec cuisines. Foods are delicate and easy for tourists. The price and service are also good.
Fast and efficient service at this location. Very decent restaurant for anyone wanting to taste French Canadian cuisine.
it may be a tourist trap but still one of the must visits. The tight (did i mention TIGHT) 17th century space alone is a highlight bringing people back the dark ages. food is good if not excellent, and service is nice. staff dressed in traditional outfits added to the ambience. money well spent.
Great value for their $39.99 menu. It can be even lower to $29.99 if you have dinner in the afternoon (before 5pm). But you have to pay attention to the options covered by that price and do the upgrade when needed. For example, escargot needs $8 additional, but it is worth. I also regretted that I should also upgrade the main dish.

I was able to enjoy the Prix Fixe menu on my first night in Quebec City, and I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed wild meat pate, grandma's pea soup, Bison Bourguignon, creamy blueberry wine sauce and maple syrup creme brulee to finish it off. Fortunately, the lighting was perfect for an intimate dinner with friends, but not for photographing the food to make it pretty enough for social media. Don't worry, you're still going to get it! The service was paced for a dinner that was made fresh, and the server was amazing with making sure that we got what we ordered, and got it at the temperature it was supposed to be. If you're in a rush, this spot is not for you. It's French-Canadian homecooked food and for those that want to feel like they are eating dinner with friends and family. While you're there check out the 3-d art pieces, and tour the building known as the oldest home in Quebec City.
After seeing all the reviews the restaurant ended up being pretty underwhelming. We paid for the fixed price menu. The meat pate (appetizer) was the highlight of the meal. I ordered a salmon dish that turned out to be a salmon/potato mash in a puff pastry; the salmon wasn't seasoned correctly and tasted fishy. Their maple pie is hilariously sweet. Overall, the venue is nice and the service is good, but I wouldn't stop here next time.
We had lunch here and loved both soups, both main dishes and the cake. Our waiter was very friendly and helped us with the lactosefree options. We would definitly recommend to come here when in Québec.
An overall good experience mainly due to our amazing waiter Nicolas. The name of the establishment suggests flavourful, robust dishes as expected from true quebecois dishes. The meat pies were good but the soups were lacking flavour all around. A bit disappointed.
Loved the experience. Food was pretty good and our waiter was attentive too. This is also a pretty charming historic house to visit, one of the oldest buildings in Quebec. Reservations are strongly recommended during busy times.
Iconic restaurant in Quebec City with very traditional dishes yet very delicious
Such a quaint little place! Loved the wait staff in their period costumes, the simple decor and oh!.. the food. We ordered the Grandma’s Treat with the tourtiere (perfectly crispy crust) and meatball ragoût (superb flavor). This was one of our favourite places to eat while visiting Old Quebec.
Excellent service from the host to the wait staff - all were friendly, attentive and very polite. The food was excellent - classic tourtiere, perfectly seasoned and heavenly pastry. Both the pea soup and the beans brought forth memories of snowy days in grandma’s kitchen, with all the warmth and comfort that goes along with it. The fudge pie was profoundly rich, with a deep chocolate richness. Both the post-dinner filtered coffee and americano were rich and flavourful.
A beautiful old home in Old Quebec. The tablé d'hote menu was spectacular! It has traditional Quebecois food. Our server was outstanding and the desserts to die for! Little secret, go before 5pm and a three course dinner with a glass of wine or beer is $29.95!
Very popular local Canadian restaurant, one of the oldest building in Quebec City. Super friendly service and great staff, their pastry and gravy were fantastic, and the entire setting of the restaurant really gives you a glance of the history.
Quaint and historic. Prix menus are good for those looking for a local taste/cuisine but are unsure what that would mean. This is a historic building from 1675 (I think that is the year) and it shows inside and out. Servers are very nice and take the time to ask if we actually spoke French and or just English. Food was decent in taste and presentation. Very homey. The maple pie dessert was the highlight for me. It was like a pecan pie without the pecans. Delicious
Wonderful authentic quebecois fare and so reasonably priced too! A must try for anyone visiting Quebec not to forget this is Quebec's oldest restaurant. Great service too!
Wonderful variety of tasty Canadien fare. Only ended up here because our first choice was closed and the Uber driver recommended this restaurant. So glad he did! Creme Brulee love!!
Simply Perfect! Wonderful service nice and kind, food local so good! You have to try their maple pie for dessert for sure! Atmosphere cozy ???? Loved it!
I wanted tourtiere du lac st Jean and I was not disappointed! I can’t say whether it was authentic, as I am not from Quebec, but it was sure delicious! All the food was amazing here! The service was also excellent. The food was comforting, and reminded me of a home cooked meal (in a good way!). Would recommend! Also the maple pie is a must!
Underwhelmed at the taste of food. The concept of French Canadian food is inviting but certainly not fresh and under seasoned. Pea soup watery and not cooked, lacking in flavor. Salmon in lobster sauce was very fishy tasting and sauce not warm when reached table. Homemade beans lacked in seasoning. No bread offered with meals. Would not eat there again. Staff pleasant and hardworking.
Best food, dishes, deserts, and especially most polite and informative waiter in all of North America. Choice of dishes was superb, anbience, relaxing.
Great atmosphere. The servers are courteous, polite and will explain all the dishes on the menu. We had two excellent meals with one appetizer and one soup two choice entrees and the special maple desserts. Overall a great experience
Ordered lobster bisque, beef wellington, and maple creme brule. Food was amazing! The house wine was good, and the waitress was very very kind. One of the oldest houses in Quebec city! Build in the 1670's.
Food was good, customer service was good. Only thing was not that good was the pie I ordered, it seemed like the chef poured beef stew onto a pie crust right before serving it.
Wow. Their food is such high-quality that it would even be reasonable for them to take $80 for 3 people at lunch. The food seems like it is just plain tasty, but it’s actually really good with no taste sticking out (what most restaurants do). The food is absolutely amazing, since they made all this in such a short time, and it’s a shame that I cannot give them a 120% rating. Seriously, like, this place makes you eat so much that I nearly had no room to eat dessert! Honestly, we saw people complaining on the reviews that it’s too expensive, so to give you guys a tip, come at lunchtime. Too bad we were too busy eating to take pictures! Last but not least, you must taste meat pate here! ;) Well, thank the food tour guide who suggested us this place!
Their lunch menu is just amazing! The chefs cook awesomely good. The day I went they had a lamb, and it was so precisely, tenderly cooked to the perfect point... Best meat ever!
Really enjoyed this place and the dining experience. You're started out at $20 for a beer/winter, starter, entree, and dessert. They then give a menu where you add money on and get different dishes depending on how fancy you want them. The meat pies and tartars are delicious here. Very quaint place and a delicious dining experience right in Old Quebec!
Yes, get the maple pie. The wild meat pate was also quite good, paired with the candied carrots. Pork knuckles were fall off the bone tender; the cheese with the poutine, bouncy and stretchy. Very friendly waitress. Pretty great value for lunch meal!
We have lunch there every time we go to Quebec city. It's a very cozy restaurant with good service and good food. The price is fair and we have never been disappointed. Try the gramma's soup and the Mapple pie, they are delicious! The only think I don't like is the house wines, go for the beer or something else. If you are in Quebec, you must go there!
Always great authentic food. Wild meats are very well prepared.
Not sure how this restaurant has such high reviews. Our meal was abysmal. The pork tenderloin was so tough it was probably under a heating lamp all day and the sauce was stale tasting. The salmon puff pastry was bland and fishy. We had asked for bread and it never came. The desserts were okay but nothing worth mentioning. Definitely the worst meal we’ve had in Quebec.
If you get there by 6:30pm it’s a very good deal! I had the house white wine with pumpkin soup, the chef’s special for the day: Turkey with potatoes and veggies, and of course Maple Pie!! All for $19.95!
Service
What can you say about a restaurant housed in a nearly 400 year old building. Beautiful interior to match the menu. Great wine list and then there's the service. I can't say enough about the servers in this establishment. Reminded me of the professionalism of a neighborhood restaurant in France. Loved every minute of it.
An Anglos Tale! 2 Anglos first Journey to Quebec Some things Anglos are going to notice about Quebec City most resteraunts. No ice in the water More assertive about tips They charge for bread No drink refills Make reservations! Parking in downtown is non existent Aux Anciens Friendly quick service Good french onion soup and torteire Small but tasty beef Wellington Excellent pies My wife really loved her salmon pie Moderate pricing Lovely old building
Delicious food and friendly staff. Loved this place
Fantastic restaurant for French Canadian cuisine. Everything we ordered was good. The beef wellington and their meat pies are delicious and full of flavour. The maple bread pudding is one of the best I've ever had. Absolutely a must try when in Quebec. Their price fix menu offers great value.
S'iight. The escargot and French onion soup were good, along with the chocolate pie. I had the pork tenderloin strips and that was okay too. All right food, but nothing too memorable.
A wonderful place with a very traditional French Canadian Menu. We did the full meal, trying each others. The food was beyond our expectations. If you are looking for a special meal this is the place to go.
We had the lunch specials and were truly impressed by the portions and quality at a very fair price. The traditional cuisine and atmosphere was a unique experience paired with excellent service. 2 of us had an appetizer, main course, dessert course and choice of wine or beer for <55$ together. If you have more budget, maybe try one of the fancier entrees. The maple pie dessert is extremely sweet, but definitely necessary for the signature Québec experience.
Really professional service, the food is taste!
Dinner
An interesting and unique way to try traditional food. Many options to choose from although the menu is a little confusing. Food was delicious and plentiful. Our server was very pleasant and attentive.
This place made me feel nostalgic for an French-Canadian experience at grandmaman and grandpapa’s that I have never even had. Just such a warm and inviting space with food that’s crafted with so much care and love. Delicious!
Had a lovely breakfast at Aux Anciens Canadiens while I was vising Old Quebec! The house itself was dated back to 1600s, and has this old-vibe to it. …
The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. And the food is amazing. This is a place you have to stop at, if possible.
Dinner
There's a long queue over the weekend at this place, so it would be good to make a reservation. But the food was quite good. Ordered the duck confit which was tasty, and the bison meatpie did not disappoint. The environment is good for casual chat amongst friends.
Had two meals at this place during my trip to Quebec City. Located in a quaint building, atmosphere is great. Also waiter and waitress were very friendly and energetic. Price for the lunch special is a fairly good deal. My favourites were the onion soup, beef Wellington and maple syrup pie. The meat pie I tried another day was also good. Maple brûlée was good too but a little bit too sweet for me (most likely because I don’t really have a sweet tooth). Also the food comes in great portion so I’d suggest go there with an empty stomach :)
Dine in
A nice place for proper Québec food. I had their entreé meal special that comes with an appetizer, entreé, desert and drink. Started with an appetizer of their Québec meat pie, followed up with an entreé of their poutine with duck, and finished off with their maple bread pudding. Washed it all down with an ice cold Boréal craft beer from the tap (amazing beer btw) If I were to come back, I'd probably pass on the poutine and stick with the meat pie. Not because the poutine is bad (it's great), but because their meat pies are so damn good, you'll have to fly to the UK to get a meat pie of this quality. Would definitely come again. Proper Québec food is really something special. It just soothes the soul lol.

Really good experience! They have a det menu for the evening, with big portions and very good food. The blueberry and strawberry sorbet tastes so natural and very refreshing after a heavy meal. Service is also very fast and pleasent. Spent Christmas Eve here, coming from Montreal, and it was very worth it!
The wild meat pate was not so rich in flavor, but the meat pie was very good. As a dessert I chose to try the maple pie, which as expected was incredibly sweet (a bit too much for my taste, but that's how it is supposed to be). The overall atmosphere and service were good and considering the price this is probably the best option to eat lunch inside the walls. The dinner menu is more expensive.
Very affordable option. Rustic, authentic Quebec food. Service was excellent!
My wife and I really enjoyed French Canadian classics "aux Anciens Canadiens", in a building finished in 1677! Mine was the pork with cabbage and mashed potatoes and a mustard sauce. For my wife the Quebec meat pie. Both really well executed comfort foods, with great, friendly service. The maple creme brulee for dessert was worth it, creamy custard and a nice sugary layer on top. The maple syrup pie was wonderful, with a flakey crust and the consistency of pecan pie. Definitely would return.
An overall Good experience. The staff was wait staff was warm and friendly and super helpful when taking our order. The food was old school Canadian food... meaning you get to eat what the Ancient Canadians would have eaten. So we were there for the history and the novelty of the food. We were not disappointed. The history of the “house” and the decor are fun to explore. The only disappointment: we had a reservation and were 15 minutes early. The restaurant had few patrons as of yet, but we were not allowed to be seated until those 15 minutes had passed... not very good customer service to begin with...
Amazing food and service, best place and most economical restaurant in Québec City for traditional Québec food! I had pig knuckle poutine, hard to find this dish in Québec! Very tender pig knuckle! My husband loved his grandmas plate!
Atmosphere was rustic and beautiful. Food was fantastic! Our server was attentive and nice. Must-do for any travelers to Quebec City
Beautiful old restaurant from the 1600's with a lot of history to go with it. Including the novel from which the establishment drew it's name. It's pricey, and traditional, but a great novelty experience while in Quebec.
The food was quite good. Try to get the early bird special if you arrive before 5:45 the full meal is $20 including wine appetizers main courses and dessert which is an amazing deal.
WOW! what a restaurant!! I recommend this to all tourist if you want to get a taste of traditional Canadian food. If you're Canadian, you're gonna love those classics. I love that they had real tourtière Lac St-Jean style. Good deal for lunch. A bit expensive for dinner but totally worth it!
Cozy, welcoming atmosphere, friendly bilingual staff who explain the Quebecois specialties on the menu, the table d'hote (fixed menu of 4 courses with several choices) is a great way to sample multiple dishes. It is a lot of food, though! Mostly delicious food, and they were able to accommodate my wife's dairy allergy, but her chicken was rather dry. My sampler dish of Quebecois specialties was delicious and savory. Overall a great place with a long history, recommend for a special dinner out.
Awsome!!! Best experience of my family's trip to Quebec City was our visit to this restaurant . Our waiter Sam was very pleasant, and engaging. all the food is made in-house with a wide selection of traditional Canadian food with a modern twist. Even the pie dough, was homemade.

This restaurant is located in a historical building dating back to 1675, in Old Quebec's Haute-Ville, near all major sights such as the Fairmont hotel, Terrasse Dufferin, the funicular, etc. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and speak good English. I would recommend going for lunch as they offer a good-value table d'hote for 22.95$, which includes beer/wine, a starter, a main dish, and a dessert. Otherwise, if you order a la carte, the mains are all above 30$. Of course, if you want even better value, you have to leave Old Quebec as this is a touristy area so prices are naturally higher. There are many traditional Quebecois specialties to choose from, such as meatball stew, meat pie, salmon puff pastry, maple bread pudding, and sugar pie. Dishes are usually heavy and meat-centric, and desserts very sweet (that's to be expected with Quebecois fare), but it's also possible to eat a healthy vegan, vegetarian, or plant-based diet here. I had their mixed green salad with beet, cherry tomato, radish, and maple vinaigrette (+ 6$ on the table d'hote price), their vegan ratatouille with wild rice, and their homemade sorbet. Their maple vinaigrette was very flavorful, and their sorbet tasted light and fresh. However the vegan ratatouille was small and a bit too simple - not a real French-style ratatouille, just some mixed veggies. At least it was healthy though... Overall I'd recommend this place if you're visiting Quebec City for the first time and would like to get a taste of local cuisine and culture.
Service is friendly and perfect. Had a wonderful lunch here. Already miss the food we had. Yum
Kind of deceiving pricing for the three course lunch. You need to pay significantly extra for more than 90% of the items and it's a bit much. Our food was OK, but nothing exceptional. House beer is good, house wine is meh. Soups are eh. Maple deserts are excellent! Service was decent. The best part about this restaurant is really the history and a nice cozy feeling. The reason for low rating comes due to the first reason.
Wonderful place to visit! The staff were into character which made it even more enjoyable!
The food and service was very good. It is part of the Old Quebec City charm.
Lunch
It's a nice corner of good not expensive food in Quebec. In my opinion is one of the best where to try wild meats.
The food is a solid 5 stars, fantastic, everything was perfectly made, as though the food were pieces of art. The service from a few of the staff members wasn't the best, but that was quite a long time ago. Considering it was so long ago, I will simply base my rating off of the food. I will mention the issues with the service, however. I visited multiple places in Québec around 4 years ago on a school field trip, and we went to Aux Anciens Canadiens for dinner one night before heading back to our hotel. Throughout our time in Québec, I noticed a lot of disrespect towards us as we were from Alberta. This also applied here. The waitress who was taking our orders didn't smile, she did not say hello or ask how our day was... it was weird. We all spoke French, so the language barrier didn't exist. The waiter who gave us our food was more approachable and nice, however, so I give him props for that. Overall, amazing food, all of my friends and I seemed to enjoy the dishes. The maple pie dessert was absolutely incredible... I can still taste it. Very yummy, delicate, and fresh. I believe I had the caribou, beef and buffalo (?) wellington with fresh house-made ketchup and broccoli on the side. It was a surprisingly delicate dish for having so many bold meat choices. Normally I would expect caribou and buffalo to be quite chewy and have less flavour than beef, but it all tied in together quite nicely. The chef sure has some imagination!
Delicious food and impeccable service. Oldest house in Quebec City converted to a restaurant since the 60s. We were a large group who came on short notice, they were well prepared and served us with excellence. Highly recommend the sirloin poutine as well as the cream brûlée.
The 23$ set is of great value! However the 49.95$ set is not! Any added price item is not worth its price! Very little portion even if you pay extra!
Wonderful! Food was really tasty and beautifully served. Vegan/vegetarian options. Lunch menu before 5:45 is quite affordable and includes wine/beer and a delicious sweet ending with plenty of options to choose from.
A must visit when in Quebec City. The 3 game meat dinner is very well done.
Food was generally below average but the onion soup was delicious. There are better restaurants to visit
Honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve been to.... food and service were both outstanding! Ordered the 3 course meal with bison fondue, beef Wellington and creme brûlée / bread pudding dessert. Also ordered the caribou/deer/beef pie... everything was so delicious and I couldn’t stop myself from eating even though I was full! The service was fabulous... staff were super friendly and we felt so welcomed. Prices are affordable and the restaurant was well organized and clean. Would definitely come back!
Skip the tourist traps and go here, it's the real deal. After a week of middling meals around Old Quebec we thought we'd give it a try. The quiet, understated decor and environment was a welcome respite from the kitsch and flash of some of the other restaurants around town. The food was great. Every course. We were spending more night after night on meals that were half as good. Do yourself a favour... Go tonight, get the price fix menu, and enjoy yourself.
Love this intimate restaurant, very good homemade dishes- true to French cuisine! In these difficult times and many places having problems with hiring staff this place must be doing something right!! Our server Nicholas was amazing, spoke fluently English and French and very polite and professional. It was a wonderful evening and experience because of people like him. Bravo to all!!
We had such a great dinner here. Service was wonderful and so attentive. Food was delicious. The portions were almost too big :) Would definitely come again!
Lovely and quaint restaurant with some seriously delicious local food. I got the 3 course lunch menu and was pleasantly surprised by how great everything tasted. The lobster bisque for my appetizer tasted great and was just perfect for the cold winter day. The meat pie for the main dish was also delicious. The crust was crispy and it was stuffed full of meat. The maple pie for dessert, in my opinion, was the best part of the meal. The aroma and the richness of the warm maple syrup on the pie was absolutely delicious and it was the perfect way to round off the meal. This is an excellent restaurant and I would definitely recommend coming here. You would not be disappointed!
Fantastic dinner with traditional Quebec fare. Good portions, prices and food in a homey atmosphere. The meat pie, beef wellington, duck, and desserts were all tasty, and you must try their french onion soup.
Service
We go here for Quebec meat pie! It was heard to be one of the most traditional restaurant in Quebec city! Must try its Quebec meat pie! Super yummy! Beef Wellington was recommended too!
The staff were very welcoming & the food was delicious! This was my favourite dinner spot for my trip in old Quebec City.
Had a lovely breakfast at Aux Anciens Canadiens while I was vising Old Quebec! The house itself was dated back to 1600s, and has this old-vibe to it. It was good experience to taste what Quebec cuisines are like, or what old Canadian cuisine perhaps. I ordered Onion soup and Grandpa's meat pie meal. Food were very... salty unfortunately. I thought it was just mine, but the other's dish was salty as well haha. Reason why giving 4 stars. The maple bread pudding desert was really good tho, it was super sweet, but really good!
We had an early dinner there for 20$ but if you want to have regular dinner on weekend its better to book it earlier. Its cozy with an french design environment and customs. You can have a good french dinner experience in the restaurant. There food and its quality its something ordinary and it can be improved to give the real french restaurant.
