Here you will see the reviews of people like you who consumed the services and products of Huether Hotel (Winery) in Kitchener (Canada).
At present this business receives a rating of 3.9 stars out of 5 and that rating is based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is quite positive, and it is based on a high number of feddbacks, so we may be quite sure that the assessment is quite accurate. If there are many people who bothered to leave their score when they are pleased with the business, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to write scores when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Winery corresponds to the category of Restaurant.
Good food good beer. They offer curbside pick up. This is family run business so I am proud to support during these tuff and unfair times. I was served by a nice girl in cafe 1842. They took our order requests and fulfilled them. If they could get honey mustard that would be awesome!
Extensive menu and a nice selection of easy drinking beers
Good place and food. It's bigger inside than you think.
Lovely elevated patio in the city. Ample space with fast friendly service. Food was hot and tasty! The artichoke dip came highly recommended and did not disappoint!
Had to change from a 4 star rating to 3. Lately the service has been lackluster. On my last visit with a big group, the service was really slow and the manager blamed his lack of preparation in staffing on us.
Besides the fine dining and drinks, you can chill outside on their upper floor outdoor patio, or even relax to billiards and old school video games
Rest assured, the Heuther will not be getting one more cent of mine. Some businesses are integral to the culture of a community. The Princess Cinema was one such landmark in Waterloo's heritage and will be deeply missed. I was saddened to learn of its closing recently and was more shocked to hear the cause. For those who haven't heard, their space was leased from the Heuther who recently rented the space out to a higher bidder after the Princess had been there for 34 years as a good tenant. Shameful!
It's an okay place if everywhere else in Uptown is full. The food is standard pub fare. The beers all kind of taste the same.
This is my second home. The cafe staff are friendly and speedy and the coffee is consistent. Whether I'm solo or with my S.O or meeting with friends this is my go to.
Fantastic local brew house and eatery. Large patio has interesting atmosphere. Food is made with care with good fresh ingredients ie homemade coleslaw not from a pail. We had the fish tacos and schnitzel and local brew. Highly recommended. PS we used to visit heavily here years ago during university days. Nice to see a well run establishment!
Delicious portobello mushroom burger!!
A little pricey but great food and coffee!
Cafe 1842 is always great! Lots of outlets and table space to work. Delicious baked goods. Friendly staff. Checks all the boxes!
Great, friendly staff. Reasonable prices, food wasn't really above average.
Awesome patio. Good beer made in-house.
Cafe 1842 is a great place to meet friends. Best ceasar salad!
Great, unique place in uptown Waterloo. There's 3 levels to this "hotel" each featuring a different theme and feel. Food and atmosphere is fantastic and there's enough activities within the walls to keep you busy on your night out.
The Huether Hotel has my favourite beer in town! It's an awesome atmosphere in a really old hotel that's divided up to have a few establishments in the big building (cafe, a bar, a restaurant, a jazz music hall, and a billiards room). The upper bar is always hopping and has a large, lively patio in the warmer months. Food is great; they have a surprisingly large menu in the main bar upstairs. The only thing that's hit or miss is the service of the main bar; on several occasions we've literally been forgotten about by different waiting staff and literally been left without our drinks topped up, or unable to get our bill, for upwards of an hour! Staff seem to be a common complaint about this place, as I hear from a large amount of friends that they also have inconsistent experiences here with waiting or management staff. Hopefully that will improve over time, and not that they just rely on their food and atmosphere as the only things to keep people coming back.
I have been going here for a few years sporadically and while it was pretty expensive but decent when I started going here things have deteriorated to the point that I cannot in good conscience give it more than 1 star. First of all, the service is just pretty terrible. Extremely slow, every time I have went here the past few months it takes upwards of 10 minutes just to get a pint of cider / pitcher of beer, etc. On top of that, the utensils and glasses have been either poorly washed or not at all, with visible contamination often present. Second, the food is not only overpriced but it takes forever to arrive (last time I was here took 50 minutes for burgers, the portions are terribly small (the burgers are about the height of something you could get at McDonald's, and many people in my group swear by the size of other dishes, such as schnitzels, being half the size they used to be a year ago). Also, the food is often poorly prepared, the amount of times people in my group had to complain about burnt meat (charred black, not well done) in burgers is ridiculously high. Lastly, the drinks are over priced as well. To be fair, they are not hugely more expensive than other options in waterloo, but considering everything else paying 20% more for beer is a bit ridiculous for a venue this shoddy. Considering the terrible service and quality of food, the prices should not be the highest of any pub in waterloo. The only positive thing I can say about this place is that they have unique beer and are never full (they have 3 levels of available sitting.
The poutine I got here was amazing it was a waffle Fry's with extra cheese curd's, bacon and chicken. I'd recommend it.
I have been coming here for wings for over 20 years. Yes, they're that good. Add in their own generous selection of micro-brew ales and lagers - my favourite is the black and tan. Service has always been friendly, and usually very attentive. It can get busy both downstairs at the brewpub, and upstairs on the patio in the summer - one of the best patios in kw! Another level for pool tables, and a cafe on the main floor. Whatever you're in the mood for!
Here you can buy good quality beer brewed right on the premises. That, combined with pretty good bar food at a reasonable price makes this a good place to meet with friends.
Always room. Great food. Reasonable. Cool atmosphere.
They have everything a student needs! WiFi, outlets and good food. They have a large breakfast menu so I would come here for maybe brunch. The cranberry lemon muffin was served warm (get it with butter) and the we also got the roasted veggie sandwich. Staff was super nice and the place has a nice “vintage hotel” vibe going on. Would definitely come again.
Great place for meetings, a fun environment and great staff. I look forward to going every other Thursday for our networking meeting. Cheers
Fun place to spend an evening. They brew their own beer nearby. Live jazz at the jazz room in one of the side rooms is fantastic (weekends only). It is almost more fun to explore all the different places you can sit and drink/eat than drinking/eating itself.
Good pub food. Pool tables, pin ball machines, sports on tv. Brew their own beer and have others on tap. Fun to hang out with friends.
Excelent and Wonderful place for a beer and burger. Nice service. Food delicious.
Upstairs deck/patio has good umbrellas & good service
Great friendly service, I have been a loyal customer for 30 years and the food and drinks still keep getting better.
Craft beers were good, I was in the mood for mead, and although not a mead, I enjoyed the one with honey. Buffalo sandwich was good, medium sauce had no heat at all. Poutine was fantastic, love the added peppercorns, spices it up real nice and makes me want to come back to Canada just for this.
Great pub food and relaxed atmosphere.
Revisited the Huether after being away for 25 years: it was even better now than it was then. The Fungi pizza was close to perfect and the Black And Tan beer hit the spot, just as it always has.
Food is pretty good, but the service is terrible. Took over an hour for someone to take our order and another 2.5 hours to get our food and we were in a group of only four. The male manager is rude and clearly disinterested in the success of the business. When we spoke to him he literally did not stop watching the game on television, didn't make eye contact and responded with just 'k,' to everything. Awful experiences every time I have gone. Sad because it really is(was) a staple in the Uptown Waterloo landscape.
great wings
Good drinks and tasty food! Very friendly service! Fish tacos and steak salad were excellent.
Neat old building and a variety of jazz! Good restaurant!
Good food, at a slightly high price. Nice authentic pub atmosphere.
Great food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff
Nice atmosphere and good food (not too pricey).
Cozy place in town with history and great London fog
Mediocre food, bad service. Atrocious owners.
The schnitzel was absolutely amazing! The mashed potatoes that came with it were also done to perfection. Of course the beer selection is amazing but my favourite was the Lion. The service was impeccable and very helpful. The venu is also very charming and I had fun just exploring each of the sections. This is a must go to place!!
Everything at the Huether is hit or miss. When the food is good is really good, but often it's over cooked or missing something. They have very high turn over as from what I understand the management is pretty bad to the staff. This often results in slow and inconsistent service. They also seem to have some scheduling issues where sometimes you will arrive to a half empty restaurant but they will make you wait for a table for 20 minutes because they don't have enough staff on. The beer isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be but it's not anything special.
I have lots of memories here and come here often because it is one of the only places where large groups of people can drop in and out from their pool area or their patio. However I find service to be lousy and whenever you want to book an event the management is a nightmare to work with. Has lots of potential here.
Great place to play pool with friends at a reasonable price. Spacious patio as well. But I find beer to be too pricey
Good food and drinks! Really affordable! The staff are super friendly and helpful! It also has quite a nice atmosphere! Definitely a good cafe to spend a cool fall night at!
First visit! Service was great and we just loved the atmosphere!
Huether is working to shut down local business' and for that they will never receive my money ever again! shame...
Nice place to hangout. A lot of different rooms.
Are the breakfast quesadilla to go and it was amazing
Love coming here for the amazing cappuccinos and great conversation with friends. Amazing atmosphere.
Good service.... A bit pricy with their food...local beer excellent
My husband and I love this place. Great service, and awesome nachos and wings.
Private Room in basement was a bit cold and music too loud. Food was average
Inappropriate service conducted at this establishment. Went here with my family and waited over 10 minutes for them to “clean” tables. After being seated we waited an additional 20-25 minutes for a server to come around and ask us what we would like drink and bring menus. The server apologized because apparently there was a “mix up” where none of the staff realized we were actually here. My fiancé who is a restaurant manager in Toronto had us stay to speak to the manager to let them know about the wrong doings of this establishment. The manager had no remorse and evidently depicted that he could care less about losing business. Save your time and don’t bother visiting this restaurant as their management does not know how to train staff and their staff lacks vital communication skills.
Amazing environment with great service and tremendous food!
Nice atmosphere, good beer reasonable price. Big old building that offers lots of choices, sports bar, restaurant, games room, patio, they seem to have it all. Staff is very friendly and assisted me in finding the sports bar.
good service and patio. Nice place for chilling up with friends. But, the food’s score is absolute zero. I will not go there again because of the food.
Tasty comfort food sold here. Nothing outstanding but it’s worth the price.
Service was average - went in for the first time and didn't know where I was going. Place is full of stairs and difficult to get around without staff help. Ate off their Oktoberfest menu and got the Sauerkraut Sausage. Portion was good, but it was nothing special. Food also took a very long time to arrive.
Barely Works, yummy nachos & drinks! Our waitress was attentive & friendly :)
The billiards room proved to be an ideal place to hold the retirement party.
Service is a bit slow, but it is a busy place. I ordered a Stella on tap (my favorite beer) it was awful. Let the staff know and they questioned if I had ever had a Stella before ???? They switched it out for one of the beers they make in house and it was fine. The menus are super sticky as well, might consider running a rag over them occasionally! ☺️
Love the Barely Works Patio in the summer but every time I have gone their food has been terrible ... like really really terrible. Once we were served pizza that that was burnt to a crisp with no sauce and barely any cheese on it - who would rightfully serve that in a restaurant?? Another occasion ordered the portobello mushroom burger with pesto and was served literally a piece of mushroom on a bun with nothing on it ... when I asked about it the waitress took it to the kitchen and brought it back exactly the same. Please improve the quality of your food!! We would come so much more often if you did.
Sounds like Sonya needs to learn how to treat employees better!
its' kay I like the staff but not the food
The cafe has a chalkboard with food items available, but no prices. Plenty of room for prices. Just too arrogant for my taste
Great place for large gatherings. Had a lot of fun here during an engineering event. Food was okay, drinks were pretty good, staff was friendly.
We went to the bar upstairs and ordered pizza. It was a bit burnt and they forgot our salad. I had to flag down our server to ask her for it. The atmosphere is cool.
Great food, excellent staff on patio
My colleague and I ordered lunch today and we are very disappointed with the consistency of what's presented on the menu vs. what we received. I ordered the California wrap, two of the ingredients on the menu were missing, and it was not very clear that I would have to assemble the wrap(s). My colleague ordered the fiesta salad and there were onions (not mentioned on menu), no cilantro, and the greens were not accurate according to what is listed on the menu. We also ordered the artichoke and spin dip, the last time we ordered this we got veggies and this time we did not. The only good part of this experience was the very kind server who gave me the orders.
11 to 12 . Have a nice quiet time and a pint
Always a great spot for a locally brewed pint and good company :)
Checkout their outdoor patio, most of it is covered so it's perfectly for the rainy season days.
Great food at the lions pub. good for large groups
The Hotel contains: The Cafe 1842 (with great atmosphere for reading/ doing work), the Jazz Room where Neruda Productions often have a gig or two, and the Lion Brewery Restaurant in the back along with a bar upstairs and a pool room next to the restaurant. The restaurant is great both in terms of atmosphere and food. The food is not the cheapest but you do get great taste for the money. Good place for a stylish old fashioned date evening.
jazz room has incredibly talented musicians
Lovely patio with heat option. Lion lager is a must try!
Good food. Good service. Parking was kinda tricky, should have taken the ION
Excellent service and delicious food. Try the bison burger, you won't be disappointed.
The service is always decent and friendly here, but a little on the slow side. The food is always adequate and served in fairly large portions. This is a live place to go of you have a large group.
There on a Monday night. Service was excellent. Had some pints on tap, panzerotti was amazing as usual. Ordered the dry Cajun wings for take away. Ya huh. Keep doing what you are doing. Shows why you have been around for ever! Sorry no photos, ate everything way too fast.....
Great place to study with warm winter drinks! I ordered a Cashmere Sweater with foam which was made of steamed milk, ristretto, a caramel shot, and a speculoos shot. It was delicious and they made it in my own mug! There seem to be only a few outlets so if you need to charge your laptop, choose your seat carefully.
had and amazing experience! excellent food and service.
Great place for food and drinks in Uptown Waterloo! Patio is amazing in the summer. Highly recommend the nachos!
Very good beer and a unique historic building with billiards and separate cafe
My partner and I attended a work party at this establishment and were very disappointed, especially with the service. As other reviews have mentioned, orders were mixed up and the servers were inattentive. They mixed up orders that were vegetarian (giving someone a Caesar salad with bacon 3 different times, then giving that same guest chicken instead of vegetarian lo Mein....) and one of the servers spilled drinks on guests on two separate occasions. The servers were rude to us when we asked why our meal was missed. Guests in our party commented that the meat was undercooked and it was not resolved by staff. It was truly a pathetic example of young, untrained, unsupervised staff with poor customer service skills. No manager to be seen the entire night. In addition, the 3 floor set up is not accessible for people with disabilities and dangerous to climb up and down to the bar on the 3rd floor. Poor experience all around, would not recommend!
Lovely historical setting with friendly staff & great service located in UpTown Waterloo. The unfamiliar with the site can get lost in the colorful maze of halls, stairs & rooms from the basement to the first floor. History is present all over the hotel from the main floor coffee shop & jazz room to the basement & first floor restaurants & meeting rooms. The jazz room with it's regular schedule of gigs & participation in the summer Waterloo Jazz Festival is the main attraction for the jazz aficionados. Waterloo & hotel's history & transformations are revealed through artifacts, historical articles & notes. The hotel takes pride in on site made food & craft beer.
I love the Jazz Room, have less respect for the owner after shutting down Princess Cinemas. Also, I was waiting for a friend at to meet me to play pool while finishing my Starbucks tea and received a scalding lecture as to why Starbucks is ruining small businesses like theirs and shouldn’t be brought inside the Heuther. Firstly, the cup was empty. Secondly, incredibly rude. I promptly left afterwards.
I really do enjoy this place. The only issue I see whenever I've gone there is that the service is slow. Still, it's a great place, good food.
A very unique place. A bit old, bit new.
This restaurant has great food in a nice relaxing atmosphere. The owner is so pleasant and all the staff are friendly and deliver a great customer service experience. It’s sad to see the place is being spoken of in a negative way. Business decisions have to be made by business owners and individuals shouldn’t comment unless they have all the information. Do your research! I’m just a long time customer who’s always had a great experience.
Normally, a really good time. Played pool on the second level and the smell of 2nd hand smoke was very overwhelming and quite disappointing. Mentioned it to the staff and all they said was "oh we have student renters upstairs it must be them." Sad. May not go back. UPDATE: This review was posted after my visit in Feb 2020. It was edited 14-AUG-2020 when I corrected a typo. I'm glad the staff and management have taken steps to correct the smoke issue, and I will be visit again sometime.
The place in Waterloo for good food and good beer. Prices are very reasonable as well.
Really good location to host events. We have been coming to this business every year for my clubs end of term dinner and they always deliver in service !!
Been quite a few times and can be hit or miss, chicken tenders are good. Nachos we had last visit had next to no cheese and the cheese that was there was burnt and stuck to the paper. Waitress didn't seem to care about the concern. There are lots of other restaurants in the area, I probably won't be back.
I haven't been in quite some time and I wasn't surprised. Good food, excellent service and overall top notch experience.
Good enough service, mediocre coffee and tea. Espresso drinks and steamed creations are ok. The breakfast, however, is fantastic. Cash only spot, but comfy and a kind regular crowd.
We attended a retirement party there last night. Staff was very attentive and food was wonderful.
My partner and I loved this cafe and it was our favourite breakfast spot. A while ago there was an increase in the price of their breakfast which made it come to nearly $50.00 with drinks, which is too expensive for students and is unfortunate as it used to be a good deal. The coffee and desserts are always good. It's not the sort of sit-down and expect to be waited on service, which can be good or bad depending on what you like. I personally like this because you can sit privately without being bothered.
My husband and I went for a date night and shared some appetizers. Our waitress was amazing, very attentive. She had the appropriate amount of visits to our table to ensure everything was to our liking. The food was great, we had wings , antojitos and some drinks. Our bill was reasonable. The only downside is trying to find parking. I would highly recommend going to experience the awesome service, ambience and food, it's all worth the small frustration of lack of parking.
First time being there for a friends birthday. Table was not leveled so my beer fell. Still got charged for it but probably my last time there. Hold on to your beer.
The owner of the place is responsible for shutting down a wonderful, community oriented art house theater in order to replace it with a virtual reality experience thing that has offered to double the rent. The theater, who has been in business for 34 years, have been given a bit over a months notice to vacate and no chance to negotiate. May I suggest anything down the street other than here to dine at? Our community soul will thank you.
Excellent drinks, fantastic service, wonderful atmosphere, and a warm environment. Having been at another coffee shop earlier, we were cold so coming into 1842, where they have a gas fireplace blazing, it was really nice!
Did not honor closing times on holiday (update your closing times and you won’t get a bad review)
The food is good. Nothing to write home about but it's a nice place to have a little meeting at but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.
Went downhill after lockdown
Food came cold. Beer sucks and is overpriced. Terrible service.
One of the best patios in uptown waterloo. Food is okay. I believe the beer is brewed on site and is not great at all. Almost always flat and tastes like their lines are not clean
Usually crowded in the evenings, popular with the college crowd to come and work here. Good selection of lunch options, and you'll often get live music from the Jazz Room adjacent to it.
Lots of things to look forward to here! There is a cafe, breakfast restaurant, jazz room and then another full restaurant. There are pinball machines and pool tables. Nachos are amazing! Definitely a good place for any occasion.
Decent coffee friendly staff, good place to order food too
Great food, pretty reasonable price. Only thing is that their service can be quite slow. The last time I was thete, there were some black flakes in my water, and we asked for a different pitcher. But the next pitcher still had the black flakes in it. However, this only has happened one time. Overall a nice place to go with friends
Good wide selection of food and drinks. Lots of variety of seating, whether you want bar seats, a table, or to hang out and play some pool, darts or arcade games, or even watch the game. Only complaint is that the arcade games gobble your coins.
this place is a vibe love it the burgers are sooooooooooooooooooooo gooddddddd
The Huether is a really cute place to grab food or a coffee! Service is great and the place seems to be very clean. Only negitive thing about the place is that the owner of the resturant is abusive to staff, I've been there on occasion when a staff member gets openly scolded by the old lady who is the owner in front of customers, which is awkward. Other then that I absolutely love the food, and the waitresses are great.
Nice night on the patio for wings and drinks.
Nice staff and a great place to sit and hang out with friends. We come here to write and the atmosphere is always really good
Normally when I go to the huether the food is fantastic, but last night I was super disappointed in the food. My family went for my birthday and my parents and myself got our meals before my husband. The waitress explained that it would be about 5 min for his pizza, fine. She then came back 10 min later and said they have to remake it they messed it up. Once he got his pizza it was cold and not fully cooked, he was later sick that night. And the thing that made me upset the most was that she didn’t even take anything off the bill. Me have being a waitress before I was shocked to see that she didn’t take anything off the bill for the chefs mistake.
Good place to go to shoot some pool and enjoy a cold beer.
I always have a great time at the Huether! The food is amazing !
NB - barley works hours are not as indicated by Google.and I don't think their own website has the most accurate open times. Call ahead. Patio is large and covered. Great for a rainy fall day lunch. The first "best chicken tenders" ever. Still the best chicken tenders ever. Adlys Ale a++++ The should totally bring back the giant raviolis they used to have.
Great food and Saturday night jazz. A really fun and cozy place. Great atmosphere.
Amazing food and amazing staff.
Our go-to place after the Princess theatre. Good coffee, a snack and pleasant quiet place to sit to discuss the Show.
Descent food and good people. Service was awesome and the was pretty good for pub fare.
Their burrito was mind blowing! Definitely going back to try more items from their menu. ????
Great craft beer and atmosphere.
The Huether has always been one of the top restaurants to purchase Chicken Wings at in Waterloo. They don't seem to get the attention that other restaurants do about their wings, but in my opinion are in the top 4 wing places in all of Kitchener Waterloo! A great place to go for a few beverages and dinner. I have fond memories of a friend who passed away hanging out together in the basement bar here on weekends years and years ago. The staff was always courteous to us.
i ordered their "smokehouse flatbread" with pulled pork, when i recieved it all the pork was super dried almost like jerky not appetizing at all! i find the menu to be on the pricier side of thing which would ok if the food was worth it. the quality of the food is only worth fraction of what they charge! i do not recommend this place to anyone. on a better note the beer is cold and lions brewery makes some nice easy drinking brews
Great food & great service The music selection could have been a bit more lively though :)
Good food and a fun place for arcade games and pool
Has many floors, a great local beer selection and a huge patio. Have been going here since I was in University. The food is decent too.
Great environment to hang out with friends, good food and really friendly staff!
The sourdough bread is amazing! The Caesar salad is nothing to sneeze at either.
Have been visiting the Heuther for years. Always delicious food, fair prices and good service. And their patio in the summer is awesome.
Huether Hotel is a combination of so many things, Cafe 1842, Barley Works, and Jazz Room. All three are great options for an outing.
One of the best venues in the Waterloo region. Bar, restaurant, massive patio, games room, and cafe. It's more like several venues in one, great place nonetheless! I recommend a taster paddle of their beers to get you started on your way.
Atmosphere is amazing, my sandwich was ok though. Great beer selection too
Nice place. Many different levels. From a games room, to jazz nights, bar, and restaurant. This place has it all. Food and beer selection was good as well.
Coming here for 30 years now and food on occasion is slow but always great ... Best known for their wings which you can have breaded or not (New York style). I recommend this place totally. Upstairs has a huge patio. Craft beer is good
Love their 50% off their pick up pizza deal! Waffle fries and calamari were very crispy and delicious! Love it, will come back again!
This place has it all, two restaurants (one more casual bar style with an outdoor patio), a cafe that also offers ice cream, a jazz room with performances, an arcade (not tacky) and pool tables... a great space for group hangouts
The building is the coolest part.
I thoroughly enjoy Huethers atmosphere, customer service and food selection! Their Philly roast beef is quite the contender; a delicious meal that will leave you in a food coma. If you love beer try their delicious honey brown lager.
Good quick pub type food super causal
History and nice place inside and out for drinks and food.
Physical distance in place. Great atmosphere anyways. Reservations a must, and your time is limited. ????
You know why you got a 1star, don’t mess with our princess. Also the manager is very rude to her staff and needs to go
Don't think we've ever had a nicer, more accommodating waitress than Alice before. She really made our Sunday morning! Egg benedicts were pretty good too.
Always a great experience. Big portions and great home brew.
Huether Hotel gas good beer and usually a good atmosphere. When I was there, there was a group that was very loud.
My friends and I went here last night to the outdoor seating on the patio. The cocktails were really reasonably priced and were so delicious we each had 2. One of my friends also had the cheesecake which she said was really really yummy. Super busy so we had to wait a bit for drinks and we had 5 of us at a 4 person table but otherwise an absolutely fantastic time and a great atmosphere to be in.
Will not be supporting the huether hotel after their part in shutting down the princess original. If that's how they choose to do business within their own community I have no trust in them to do business with customers. Such a sad and shameful day in the huethers long history. I'll never recommend them again nor will I go there myself.
Interesting experience and definitely a local hotspot. Right on one of the main drags in the Kitchener - Waterloo region close to everything little shops and entertainment. The rooftop patio is a must to check out and grab a cool drink on a hot day quite cute.
Love this place. Great-tasting, simple cocktails and nothing over-the-top fancy. The food is delicious and always fresh, like the menu states. Try the wings, you won't regret it! Several of their own beers on tap which are also very good.
We went for a lunch on the patio only to have the worst dinning experience of our lives and staff were more than part of the unenjoyable experience!!! We ordered our food and the wait was atrocious and when our food arrived we never got what we ordered. We asked to get our actual items ordered and the waitress was completely unhelpful and refused to get us what we ordered! I will never waste my money or time again in this establishment. They wronged us horribly and made absolutely no attempt to correct the error. At least they were not ignorant in to assuming we were going to pay for it! We ended up going to Bobby O'Brien's and enjoyed nice outdoor patio and got what we actually ordered!!
I’ve ordered their frozen hot chocolate numerous times before and during the pandemic, and it’s one of my favourite drinks. As of a few days ago, I ordered the drink again, but is it clear that their quality has drastically declined since the pandemic. Their frozen hot chocolate was around $7, there was no whipped cream, and it was extremely watered down or diluted. This is very disappointing because so many small businesses are trying so hard to maintain their standard / produce even better quality food and drinks during the pandemic, rather than overcharging a watered down drink.
My Classic Rock/New Country Band MOONSHINE played a show at the Huether Hotel and we all had a great time!! Food was amazing and staff was super friendly and worked their butts off to help everyone!!
The Wiener schnitzel was great! A great big portion fried to a delightful crispy texture! If you don't mind stairs this is a solid pub option!
DO NOT GO HERE, TURN AWAY. WORST patio I’ve ever been in Waterloo. I bought the battered cod and only got 1 piece fish which is very little and overpriced and I dipped the fish in the “tartar sauce” I was given and instantly puked it out as it didn’t taste like tartar sauce. I was allergic to cheese and little did I know I was given blue cheese. I told the waitress that this mistake is going to give me an upset stomach and going to puke all night because of this and all she did was LAUGH. So is laughing to an allergy funny? I was so upset at this matter but I was already feeling the gruelling defeat of my stomach and went home. Didn’t have time to address this to the manager. But NEVER NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN. Employees finding allergies to be funny, how great of them.
This is a great place to play some pool, have a few drinks, or enjoy some jazz music! If you’re looking to go out Friday or Saturday night but are looking for something a little less intense than an upbeat nightclub, than this is a pretty ideal spot. If you go straight and up the stairs, they have pool tables, some antique arcade machines (PACman, pinball), a dart board, and a bar area if you want some food or drinks. They also have tv’s with sports games playing. The food menu is pretty good, and they have a nice variety of craft beers if you’re into that. If you like jazz music, check out the jazz room on Saturday nights in the lower level. The cover is a bit expensive, but the music is generally quite good. From my experience, the staff are quite friendly and the service is pretty good.
Had the wings. Sauce was awesome, but the chicken was a bit greasy. I love the architecture inside here!
Great spot to study, coffee etc. reasonable price
Great spot, bars on different levels, billiards room, good local beer
The beer was pretty good (large selection too), but the food that we had was not. Pool tables are available, as well as an outdoor patio during the warmer months. If you like jazz music, make sure you check out the Jazz Room.
We had a terrible service by two waitresses that made us wait for 25 min+ after we asked them to help us out with the pool tables. One of the waitress, Avery, seemed to not know what I was asking and just stared at me without explaining anything. After a good 30 seconds, she just said I needed to go upstairs to the bar and ask for the pool balls. Once upstarts by the bar, I asked Brook, the other waitress to help me get the balls and she said I had to wait for the bartender. After waiting for 10 min I asked another waitress if she could please get the bartender and she directed me to Brook who was apperently the bartender after she said in the 1st place to me she wasn't. After asking her for a second time, she just told me she didn't have any balls available which she could've told me in the first place. I forgot to say she was on the phone for like 10 minutes while there were costumers waiting around to be served, including myself. Terrible service and zero costumer service. I hope the Huether hotel improves the quality of their costumer services.
Great patio overlooking the main street. Good Craft beer.
Nice patio, wide selection of drinks. I feel like the food could be a little better, as well as the service.
I enjoyed the patio and seeing David Gallagher play. Hes available for bookings www.davidgallagher.ca
A little bit pricey but the service was awesome.
Awesome food... cool feel
Adlys family are terrible restaurant owners. So much wasted potential here. Uptown location with a cafe, a brewpub, jazz room, large patio. Properly run, this could be a landmark.Spend your dining dollar elsewhere
We were down in this downstairs back room; probably the vegetables cellar a hundred years ago. :-) Was chilly at first but staff was good. :-)
I'm not from the area and went for dinner here with some friends that I was visiting and I have to say this was a pretty interesting place. This hotel has multiple restaurants on different floors and while I only went in to one of them I was told that they are similar places so I can't speak for them all but I got a burger on the second floor was great!
Great calamari and fish taco's.
I performed comedy here. It's a really cool place with many rooms, a cafe, arcade, good jazz. It's one of a kind.
Stopped in for a patio lunch on a Friday. Great food and service... AND super prepared for the new normal... Tables spaced well and we witnessed servers extensively cleaning tables and chairs between guests.
The food and cafe are both very average. Lattes are often overly sweet and food is a bit greasy. The outdoor patio however has great rain coverage which is nice
One of my favourite buildings and places in all of Waterloo. A cafe, two restaurant areas, a bar with billiards, and the patio which is absolutely gorgeous and lively on a warm summer's night. Highly recommend!
Many years ago, the owner threatened to call the police on me because I wasn’t satisfied with my meal. I politely requested another be made and I was told "if you don't eat it and pay I will call the police". I wish I was kidding. Don’t give this place your business. The owner (Sonia) is evil.
Really interesting menu items of a smokehouse nature with the added fling of on site brewery beers!
Service was slow, food was tasteless, my wife found a piece of metal in her tartar sauce and didn't even get an apology. Food didn't all come out at the same time or even given to us we had to ask. Not even staff to help our waiter to full drinks fast enough.
It can be a little slow at times, but the quality makes up for it. Great selection of beers, and a few originals too -- mostly ales. The poutines are the best value for your money by far -- huge plates and around $10-15 depending on what you get. Great place to chill with friends after work or a long day of classes.
Amazing service and food. Will definitely come back here again!
Waitress was very sweet and very attentive. However, there was a hair in the chicken schnitzel. Fully refunded but…a hair..
Very nice atmosphere!! $30 for lunch including a specialty drink, French onion soup, gluten free sandwich and dessert. If you go here look around the building. There's a game room including billiard tables and video games. The art work is very diverse and simply lovely, the tables have coffee beans that have been embedded in what looks like epoxy. A must do if you are in Waterloo, even if you just grab a drink. ❤
Server was amazing and the food salad and wings best in town luved our quiet afternoon at the pub we ll be back
A nice place to have a coffee and read by the fire. The table I sat at was shaking and that corner of the room seemed to be filled with this low humming noise. Not sure if that is by accident or part of the sweet Huether vibe they are trying to create.
Nice location. Good variety of food and drink options all within the same building (cafe, brewpub, patio). Charming older architecture and friendly staff
Each different part of this building hosts a unique experience for visitors: restaurant in the basement, coffee shop on the main floor, pool hall up from that, and a bar with patio up top. Lots of opportunity for good times!
I had the Thai Pizza, very Spicy but also very delicious. Rumour has it that the nsnagement does not treat wait staff very well so may want to look into that.
Great menu, friendly service. Worth another visit
Great place to sit and have a drink.
Coffee and jazz music was nice. A little hard to study though because of the music.
Most of our visit to the Huether was spent trying to calm down one of our accompanying party members. The service was not even remotely acceptable. The wait time for our food was incredibly long. I ordered chicken quesadilla's and I can honestly say it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. What showed up after an hour 20, was a pan of a few burned pepper slices and maybe 6 penny sized pieces of chicken. I ate my entire meal and I would struggle to say that it hedged twenty percent of my hunger. Anyhow, the Huether has been there for a long, and I am sure it will continue to be, but damn it is horrible.
Good beer, service was a little slow.
Good food, friendly service.
Been going here for years and will continue to visit. Good food, the jazz club is a great addition, and the beer is great.
Bernie was a fantastic host, great atmosphere. Would highly recommend for drinks and food
Good size buffalo wings with lots of sauce. Huge salads. Greek salad was excellent with Sun dried tomatos. Sizzling calamari was zingy with the hot peppers. Large choice of beers & ales. Prices were good for the great pub atmosphere. Pool tables upstairs along with the jazz room. Will definitely come back to hear the jazz bands after 7 pm.
Best value Eggs Benedict w. salmon in town and good service.
Loved it. So cute and the eggs benedict was yummy.
Nice in-house brewed beer and atmosphere. Food's kind pricey, with small portion.
Nice menu and selection but getting a refill after your initial order is a real struggle
Not the biggest fan of the chairs in the cafe since they're not the comfiest (I usually like to spend a lot of time in a cafe, so the chairs matter to me). The food and drink however is phenomenal. Service was fast and friendly
Great spot for beer and billiards but offers so much more -- delicious pub food that includes excellent pizza, burgers, wings, and nachos, various spaces to eat provide a unique experience whether you dine in the original brewery restaurant with stone walls and floors and neat caverns, or upstairs with it's wood floors and cosy atmosphere, or the outdoor deck which is a lively place to be in the summer. Private rooms allow for the perfect space to host events which we've done a couple of times. The Heuther is a fixture in KW and it has only gotten better and better through the years. We always enjoy our experience there!
Jazz music venue is great but signature schnitzel meal flavourless and overcooked with raw vegetables.
Best wings I've ever tasted! Hip but also family friendly place, historic old hotel, many levels and a large patio up over lookingthe street . Fun pleasant out going staff.
The waitresses are so nice and accommodating.
Beer was delicious. Food was alright, spinach dip portion was small and the caesar dressing was a little runny. Service was good !!
My wife and her friend told me to expect a busy crowd on a Sunday morning but it was oddly quiet and empty. Which confused me as the staff was great and the food wonderful. Fantastic atmosphere in a very old building (wonderfully kept up). I wish I could give 4.5 stars but this platform doesn't do half stars. Parking was the one and only detractor from my very first visit. Will definitely come back again for the friendly service and huge skillets of eggs, sausage and potatoes, though I may work my way through the quite extensive looking breakfast menu.
Great food and a perfect outdoor space!
Buffalo sauce is great! Loin lager is a fantastic patio beer to go along with the patio here.
WEAK DRINKS!!! Ripoff! (Mojitos and Sangrias) Good pub grub, good wings, good antojitos. Ate at Barleyworks.
Always a great place to grab some beers eat good food and shoot some pool
The meal was delicious and there is ample upper level patio seating with BOOTHS!?!!
Great meal with family for a special occasion brunch. Had a couple of mix ups with the orders but the server was very help and friendly.
Fantastic place to eat, whether it's at the cafe or brewery or restaurant. Great old architecture.
Best wings I have ever had love the atmosphere
This place is HUGE. It has a great patio for the summer with decent seasonal beers. There's a surprisingly good jazz scene at their jazz bar on weekends (discount for students). There's an arcade and pool area. There's also a cafe (usually crowded so no plugs available). This place is great for a large group.
It was sad to see fish and potatoes wasted on a disappointment of fish and chips. The breading was brown, soggy filled with smoky dirty Oil and falling off the fish. As well, the chips were also very soggy and limpy. Fish and chips should be crispy and bright in colour. In addition, the lemon was dry and produced no juice. Truly another disappointing restaurant in uptown Waterloo.
Great selection of teas and coffees. Good food. Open late
Great place to chill and hang out with some friends. Good atmosphere for drinks and conversation. Pool tables and darts also offer some entertainment. Would recommend for a first date or for a drink after clubbing in uptown.
Amazing service! Lost one star because the direction for the flow of people in and out was not great.
The staff here are all friendly and welcoming. The menu is diverse, and the foods taste great. Some of the beer on the menu is brewed in house, and it's quite good. They have a large area with lots of billiards tables, which is always fun.
Good drinks, great food, weak service. Often forgotten about on the patio and long wait times for your food or drink.
5 ways to get fit with your family Recently, we wrote a post about how families can build strong bonds, with some great ideas for encouraging togetherness with the people you care about most. One of the most popular strategies was being active together – building healthy relationships AND healthy bodies. Brandie Kucyla, Leasing Director, Corporate Real Estate and Paul Lorentz, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Retail Markets, shared some great tips for building bonds through fun physical activities. Do something everyone can enjoy. Whether it’s ice skating with the grandkids, going for a hike as a couple or doing a cycling vacation as a family, picking something everyone likes is a good way to generate enthusiasm and ensure participation. Kucyla gets her whole extended family in on the action at the Hike for Heart event every year, where she walks with her parents, siblings and nephews. “It’s an inclusive activity that’s wonderful, low-pressure family time,” she says. Make an exercise date. Work out with your partner, join the gym with your mom, or make a pact with your sister to do a spin class every Saturday. Not only will a workout partner be more likely to get you out the door when don’t feel like exercising, you can have fun encouraging each other and spending time together. “My husband and I have made exercise a habit,” says Kucyla. “Every morning, Monday to Friday, we head to the gym before work. And while I’m in training for the Boston Marathon, he often runs the first 5K with me. We spend time together and get fit – it’s win-win.” Get competitive. There’s nothing quite like the excitement of race day, no matter what the event. Lorenz, who makes it a priority to get active with his whole family, finds that a little healthy competition is a great way to motivate his crew. “Our kids started asking if they could run some local events with us,” he says. “So we’ve been doing the Mudpuppy Trail Run in our area. My son Liam, who is 10, started off with the 3K run a couple of years ago. The next year, we did the 4K race together, then this past year, we did the 5K. My wife ran the 10K the same day and we all had a great time.” Put a team together. Schedule some bonding time with extended family by joining a sports league as a team, or just organizing a regular date for bowling, pickup hockey or even axe throwing. “My siblings, my husband’s siblings and everyone’s spouses and partners join a beach volleyball league as one team,” she says. “We play once a week – I love that it’s exercise and family time all rolled into one.” Make it an adventure. Plan an outing, a weekend away or even a vacation around something fitness-related. Train for a race in a cool destination, go kayaking on the ocean, or hike through the mountains. “My wife Tina and I will be competing in our first individual half ironman in Muskoka this July,” says Lorenz. “We’ve rented a cottage up there for the week; the. kids are coming to watch us race and then we’re taking two weeks of vacation to relax together.” There’s nothing better than time together – especially when you’re having fun getting fit! What do you do to stay active with your family? Tweet your ideas with the tag #familyfitness.
Nice patio, but beware of all the wasps flying around. Nachos are a good inexpensive snack to share and their beer selection is quite good.
Lots of tables, stays open til late (one of the few in Waterloo), and has outlets GALORE. Great place to study as long as you don't mind a bit of noise.
Average bar. Good things are: they brew their own beer, and the have a nice patio.
Café isn't usually super busy, but *does* tend to attract groups. It's a smaller café so there isn't much of a sense of privacy in the main room; service can be on the slow side, but they offer belgian waffles all day, so. . .
Great food, servers are very friendly and helpful. Best Patio in town.
Great atmosphere and the service is also great. Enjoyed a buffalo chicken wrap with fries and let me tell you that THE FRIES HERE ARE SO SO GOOD you must try them please, for me, do not substitute for a salad (which heppens to be no charge for evena caeser salad). That being said, the outdoor patio needs some serious work as the paint has completely worn away and even has outdated old TV's which just dont add to the ambiance that is the Huether Hotel. Had a great time here and will come back!
Coffee was ok...butter tart was brought out on a plate but still in it's cellophane store packaging...cream had been out all day so it curdled when it hit the coffee... All in all meh. But open past 10, so bonus points there. Inside was humid, like there was no air conditioning, but it's an older building maybe? With all the new cafes uptown, they need to step up their game.
Unreal!! We came in and a little confused. We were looking for a spot for breakfast before we hit the road back to Ottawa and let tell you, so glad we chose this place. After waiting for a while we were warned that they were a little backed in the kitchen and it would be another 15 min. We actually almost bailed. We decided we’ll just wait and thank god we did. Service was amazing the food was delicious and the vibe was super cool. Definitely recommend!!
Great for pool, was there for work social- pool tournament. The food was fairly typically pub fare, fresh made. Kind of a rabbit warren of a place, with a bit of a well worn comfortable feel.
There are actually a couple small restaurants with slightly different atmospheres inside this hotel, however I think they're all served by the same kitchen. When we could not order lunch until 3 p.m. in the basement restaurant, we just went upstairs to to another restaurants and placed our order there. The food was pretty good.
They're always extremely slow to bring out the food and often forget to make your order!!! Last two times I was there, they didn't bring out my food for over 40 minutes and needed to be reminded again that I had ordered. Definitely keep on reminding them that you're waiting for your food if you wanna get your food... ????
Excellent service and good food. Improved from my last visit.
Great to visit the hotel. Historical fact: It was used to film a sitcom 'Dan for Mayor' seasons 1 and 2 which aired on CTV. It was a somewhat hilarious Canadian sitcom in which the Huether Hotel was dressed up as the make believe 'FERNS Grill' in the fictitious town of Wessex, the character 'Dan Phillips' plays the Mayor. The show was prematurely cancelled by CTV after only two seasons and it was staring Fred Ewanuick playing 'Mayor Dan Phillips' Fred Ewanuick is of 'Corner Gas' fame where he played the role of 'Hank Yarbo'
Great atmosphere but the food is hit or miss and the service isn't always the best. It can be great for a patio night too.
I've worked here so I can say it is a notoriously difficult restaurant to work for. That being said it is a very nice gastropub styled restaurant. The building has been around for many years and is a classic haunt for locals and students alike. The most interesting aspect of this place is the variety of atmospheres; the have 2 separate restaurant atmospheres, 1 cafe, a massive pool arcade, and a giant patio.
I alway enjoy visiting the Huether. Their chicken wings are great and they brew fine beer.
I would have given 4 stars... Nice atmosphere and good food. But I'm not going back again, because the owner is insufferable. She has been rude to my friends and I, and in talking with staff she is incredibly hard to work for as well. I think I'll give my business to someone else...
Nice and cozy place with a free wi-fi where you can work bu the window and look at King Street.
Went there for a midday Sunday family meal. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. The pizza and the French Onion Soup were quite tasty. Would definitely recommend this place.
The place has a rustic feel to it inside and out. The atmosphere is great in the summer if you're having drinks on the patio. The menu and prices are good. Unfortunately, the last time I came here, I had a reservation book weeks in advance - My table was booked up and we were 10 mins early. They apologized and quickly found a solution by clearing off a table but we did have to wait about 15 mins.
Great atmosphere, local brews and super food! Service was excellent!
Nice selection of in house craft beer. Try the waffle fries with chipotle mayo! The service was fantastic.
Breakfast here is simply amazing! The coffee is even better!
Unique spot with multiple restaurants within the one building. The rustic, exposed brick makes the café feel quite cozy and homey! From a dietary restrictions perspective they typically have something for everyone.
Pleasant surprise. We were in the Jazz Room on a Sunday afternoon. Can't say enough about the organization the restaurant and the food. Highly recommended.
Service can be slow but the food and drinks are good. Excellent Caesars!
I do my homework here in the back where the pool tables are in the iridescent sunshine through stained glass windows. It has the kind of stillness where you can watch a lazy speck of dust in a beam of light drift slowly about.
Awesome atmosphere, great food and service
Nice place for a drink after work or with friends
The Barley works can be confusing to locate if you are new to the area because it is one of three restaurants located within the Heuther hotel. A coffee shop, the Lion Brewery and the Barley works. The coffee shop is on the main floor, the Lion's brewery is downstairs and the Barley works is up the main stairs to the right when you walk in off the street. The Barley works is an excellent bar&grill with both very reasonably priced items as well as more expensive ones. They offer a seasonal brew such as a raspberry ale in summer and have a large seating area. All appetizers are delicious and a little different from regular restaurants. The best deal on their menu is a truly magnificent plate of waffle fries covered in jalapeños and cheese for only seven dollars. You will have lunch and dinner with that plate. The Lion's brewery downstairs is a smaller quieter venue with an open kitchen. Lots of people rent out the room for weddings and birthdays. Their menu is different from the barley works and is more traditional pub food. The coffee shop has well, coffee, tea and lattes with seasonal specials. As well as many baked goods and cakes displayed in a window with a small sitting area. Of the three I really enjoy the Barley works (as you can probably tell) and I recommend it highly. I do suggest however you not attend on a Friday night or Saturday unless you make a reservation or are willing to wait a while before getting seated. It is in the eye of the university student storm and you will be swept away in it.
Terrible customer service! My friend and I were there to play a game of pool and never got served. The waitress served people who walked in after us and never approached us once. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
A great place to relax ????
I liked the food. Ribs were tasty but not as fall-off-the-bone as I liked. They have a whole floor of pool tables, but I really go for the pacman machine and foosball tables.
Great beer!
The Huether hosted a staff Christmas party for my workplace. They were very accommodating, although we were disappointed yo find out we did not have the whole room to ourselves like we had originally thought, making the reservation feel like a waste of time. We had to bargain for tables in the billiards room, when we thought we'd have access all night. May be worth making this more obvious when taking bookings in the future. Also may be worth offering to reserve one table to parties if the reservation isn't big enough to reserve the whole room.
Friendly service, and the food was good
Great second story outdoor patio with live music through the summer I believe they did in the past the wings are great and they're microbrewery is awesome great beers actually love to go here
Defines pretentiousness. If you ever wanted to see "that place" that thinks you should dress a certain way, behave in a particular manner, and curate their surroundings with pompous art that they know nothing of, it is this place. The owners are the definition of arrogance, which is a shame because the cooks here are obviously great, and the regular staff. The issue is entirely on the shoulders of the owners who will dictate things like not bringing in Tim Horton's to their establishment, or to close down historical monuments in the town just to better their bottom line. Rest assured, the owners will rationalize any criticism or complaint as a personal attack stemming from your own jealousy or peasant-like mentality. You might come here to enjoy the food, but it's at the expense of culture and a sense of pride, something that the owners here mistakenly think they have.
Great selection of craft beer made at the attached brewery.
Very expensive for what you get. Maybe a teaspoon of hollandaise sauce....barely enough to cover the egg. If you want to see how it should be done right, visit Doug's donuts in Brantford, 4/5$ cheaper, lots of hollandaise sauce and twice as many home fries...Doug's is the best breakfast spot I've been anywhere.
Went here for dinner and my friend misplaced her I.D. Our waitress and the dishstaff helped us search for it for over 20 minutes. They were incredibly helpful and patient. We ended up finding it and wouldn't of been able to do so without their help. Really appreciate the friendly service here and genuine interest in customers wellbeing.
Cool environment last time I was there, and a pretty interesting menu. Definitely in the pricey category though and was always a little too busy (slow service). But friendly.
Good food for the price. Nice old spot in uptown Waterloo to take a break after a long day and drink some local crafts. Friendly staff, good place to host parties and gatherings.
French onion soup was served cold.
Good place to host a get together or company events... Old and outdated though, but it has legacy
Multi level brew pub with great brews, reliable tasty pub fare and a friendly, energetic staff.
Something for everyone here, with a pool room, cafe, bar, and a restaurant with pretty good food
Brunch is bomb here. Large portions. Decently priced. The fact that there's a brewery in-house adds to the appeal
Beautiful patio. Good service
The service is hit and miss. It's a very interesting building with lots of different atmospheres: cafe, bar, restaurant, patio, billiards, etc.
Jazz room is amazing. No talking during sets.
Proper breakfast. Unique venue
Was at The Lion's Brewery. It's good
Real good food. Great coffee. Reasonable prices. Chill atmosphere
A bit run down but love the old building, staying rooms need major reno
Always love the Heuther. I used to go very frequently when I was younger. Still now, when I go, I enjoy myself. Excellent beer and wings. Multiple floors. I like the basement dinning room, as well as the top floor.
Lovely place to get together with friends and try their beers.
I've had better tastes in my mouth while vomiting.
Nice service. Biiig breakfast :)
Went at 12pm on a Wednesday while work was done on my car. Drove in from London ON. Construction right out front, so you may miss the place. I walked in and met Kelly - outstanding service. He even gave me a poster highlighting their beer menu. So awesome! The Lion Lager is crisper, cleaner, and cheaper than Coors Light. I will return with friends
I really enjoy the atmosphere of this venue as well as the smoothies. FYI there are gluten-free options.
Unfortunately The Heuther disappointed on a couple areas. We chose Fish & Chips, the take-out price was 16.25. The menu said 14.75. The fish was soggy as were the fries. Fries were under - cooked. We wondered how our order was ready so quickly. No coleslaw was found with our meals. Would not order this again.
Great schnitzel options and lots of beer choices on tap. Our server was super friendly and even brought an unexpected slice of birthday cake for the birthday boy at our table. Good family fare.
Awesome atmosphere in Barley Works -- they have a large selection of craft and seasonal beers along with a decent selection of mixed drinks and cooked dinners. There is an upstairs area with a long bar and tables/booths, and a downstairs area more suited to larger parties with ski lodge sized party tables, arcade machines, pool tables and more!
Good price, big portions.
Unreal atmosphere. The brewery on-site is absolutely fantastic, and the place is packed with history. Café, jazz bar, two restaurants, and billiards - this place has it all! I heartily recommend the meatloaf
Great patio. Staff are friendly.
Great food and ambience but the service could be improved.
Amazing staff and great vibes! The upstairs patio is one of the best in the city in the late evenings ... The delicious food and awesome selection of music make for a fantastic evening! Highly recommend!
A historical hotel in Uptown Waterloo. Good food and friendly staff in the "bierstube" in the basement. If it's open be sure to check out the back of the room and get a taste of local history. Great selection of food and drink, especially Wiener Schnitzels. Several varieties of beer brewed on the adjoining property. Be sure to try two or three different ones. You won't be disappointed.
Good food, love the atmosphere but wish the staff would bus the tables when you're finished eating.
Great booze, cheap games and safe. If I had my say this would be my friends' regular bar.
Very spacious with so many different areas to explore. Something for everyone!! Nice to play pool or to jabe a bite to eat. Spinach dip is great. Beer choices were delicious too. I also hear breakfast here is amazing, can't wait to try!
#1 or #2 for best wings in KW. If they just cleaned their beer lines, I would give them 5 stars. I hope they're reading this. Please Huether, Please!
Barley Works is one of my favorite cheap drinks and snacks place. 17 dollar pitcher of Mojitos?? Cant go wrong.
The jazz heard in the jazz room.is very enjoyable!!!
Yummy hot beverages and food plus a TON of power outlets. Excellent for getting work done.
Great food and service. Staff friendly and helpful.
Great food-great atmosphere!
Really slow service, if any. After waiting for 5 minutes to be seated we left. We weren't even acknowledged.
Food is moderately priced. They are most famous for their chicken wings. Tons of beer to select from. Fair pub food. Located in the heart of downtown Waterloo. Limited parking lot. Street parking also.
I love the Heuther! Always so happy with the food and service is great! Highly recommend the wings and lion beer!
I'll start with the positives - the food and drinks were quite good and reasonably priced. I enjoyed my meal and there were several other options that I was interested in trying out. Unfortunately, I won't be returning any time soon to do so. I visited the Huether for dinner on a weeknight. At the time my boyfriend and I were seated, we were the only people inside. It took forever for someone to serve us, even though there were about ten servers around who were standing there chatting. It got to the point that we were contemplating leaving to go elsewhere. Once our waitress did come over, she was fine. The issue I saw was with the person I believe to be the manager or perhaps even owner. A middle aged man was behind the bar. He seemed to be the one "in charge". He was not giving instruction to any of the staff and seemed far more interested in gossiping with the girls than any of the customers (more people came in by the time we were finishing up). My boyfriend and I are not overly fussy, but it felt like we went to one of the universities' residence buildings for dinner, not an actual business. The atmosphere was really off putting and ruined the experience for me (it was my first time visiting the restaurant). As I said, I won't be back. I am in the management field myself and this place needs better direction.
It's okay but it could definetly need a quick renovation or clean up
Cool spot. Enjoyed the Long Island Iced Tea (not on menu). The server was very accommodating. The patio is a lovely Summer afternoon spot.
Great food! I ate at the cafe downstairs for Dinner and it was very tasty. They have lunch foods and breakfast, along with a cafe and desserts. Upstairs is a place to play pool and up one more level is pub food and a bar.
The food is decent, this place is a local go-to for large groups and summer patio.
Love this place. Chicken wings, chicken fingers and pretzels were great. Great selection of local beers.
They did not accomodate hearing impaired people who need to lip read while outside on the patio.
It took a half an hour to have a waitress assigned to us. The staff seemed to be running all over place trying to keep up with the busy patio. The service we did receive was reletivley good, and the food wasnt bad either. The glass i recieved had a chip in it that could have cut someone, and that wasnt the first time ive seen that there. The staff appear to be doing their best, but there seems to be an issue with how they are managed. The atmosphere is great and its nice thats it's in a central location. There is still alot of room for improvement.
Best nachos and best beer. Love this place
Pretty cool place. Played a couple frames of pool, and had a beer. Their beer is pretty good. This place is worth going to on a night out.
This was my favorite place to go when I lived in the area. I still come here every time I'm back visiting. The beer and food is fantastic. Only downfall is that the service is often slow.
Service was good, prompt & friendly. The clubhouse sandwich was great, two of is had burgers-over done!!! Milkshake was great tho Pretty mixed, I would give them another try.
They don't know how to make drinks here
Great breakfast. Amazing French today, omlets, eggs
Can honestly say I have never gone to the Heuther and had a bad time. The drinks are fair priced, the service is always dependable, and the food is also great. The restaraunt layout is very versatile, and it has different rooms, each with its own function amd atmosphere. This makes it a little confusing at first but it also makes it very unique. Love it.
One of the nice places to have breakfast. It's a warm a cozy place with free wifi as well.
Worst beer ever! Ipa really? The food is average but the staff and patio are nice
Bad food, awful ambiance and c’mon ppl who puts lettuce on nachos….bad experience…drinks were served in regular glassware
Great pizza and wings .
Great food. Service was ok. They were out of one of there main craft beer however. The cost was not unreasonable
Awesome atmosphere, good pool, great service, can be expensive though.
Always love the traditional breakfast, the crispy bacon was really crispy. Tasted one on the sausages from another plate and they were really good.
Terrible gravy. Omg the worst gravy i have ever had in my life. Really it was that bad. Completely inedible. Corona beers are 7 bucks a pop. That is absurd.
Great patio, great food, great family = great time! Red beer was fantastic! Best Sangria in town! As always, dinner was great!.
One of the best places in city to go out for coffee, dinner or just for drinks and prices are reasonable ,family owned business
Very good smoothie with a choice of fruit juice and mixed in fruit in a frozen yogurt base.
Best wings in town. Great service
Wings were awesome, waitress was awesome, just a fantastic experience! So glad to be back on a patio, and super glad i got to hang out on theirs! If you like watching cars with money wasted on em, fart cans and pop pop tunes, this is the patio! Seriously, so glad your back. Rach, get over it. One out of how many orders gets f***ed? Get off your high horse.
Love their beer and their wings. Staff are usually very nice as well.
I've never been a fan of the layout and the menus a bit all over the place. But the beer selection is always good.
I have had 2 awful experiences here. 1. Went with a couple friends to enjoy the patio. Got there around 9, I had a drink before leaving my house, didn't get served for 30 minutes and then was approached by the manager saying that we were too intoxicated and they wouldn't serve us. I mean, not a single employee came by our table or even spoke to us before this. 2. Ate a chicken sandwich and got food poisoning. This was an awful experience, but really, there is only so much the place can do. Sometimes these things happen and it sucks, but it has stopped me from eating there anymore. Other then those two times, I will be honest the service is super friendly, but awfully slow which sucks because it is a pretty cool place.
goog food and great customer service, will come back again
Talk about a fun place to eat and drink
Food was over cooked and not very warm when it came out. Our order came out over 30 minutes and half of us were done eating before the last plate was out. Wings, burgers and salads were tasty. Stick to that.
Great food , a fun place to dine casually in uptown waterloo
Nice craft beer but the service was a bit slow
Ordered takeout. Food was quick and delicious. 100% will do this again.
Great service from Emily while sitting on their patio during the Covid and social distancing. She was very pleasant with us. The Huether hotel will always remain a favorite of ours, but Emily went above and beyond. Thank you
Great patio! Make sure you make a reservation with covid. They didn't bring my app and spilled chips on my friend, but otherwise a great time.
The restaurant is pretty good with a nice patio and good prices. The cafe food and coffee isn’t special, but it’s a nice place to study or hang out with friends.
Great cafe with awesome muffins ! Emily our server was a great help
So many different things inside this building I'm not sure where to start. Got a nice fully inside restaurant, another upstairs (different) restaurant with a very nice patio, a cafe, and a pool room with darts. Great place to go for food or a night of pool. Food is priced decently, and drinks aren't too bad.
Best place in town
Atmosphere is nice. Food is very good. Beer is authentic & cold.
Good eats. Great brews from the Lion brewery next door. Great atmosphere in a historic site. Lots of rooms to choose from (barley works upstairs, the billiards room middle level, patio outside, cafe and jazz room at street level and the kitchen in the basement.) Great venue all around with lota to offer. Definite reccomend to anyone for just about any occasion.
Food was good but service sucked we barely seen our waitress.
Always enjoy going to this bar, the patio has a great vibe
Rude customer service, not focussing on take out order
Always a great atmosphere, good food and decent prices. Biggest drawback is trying to find parking!
Great selection of food and very good service. The servers are very friendly and very attentive. And the food is delicious!
Nice quiet place for a coffee and a snack.
Great wings, great service and some really great beers from their own brewery.
Great place to meet up for a bite to eat and local Lion's beer varieties. Outdoor patio in summer, rustic indoor setting with stone walls in lower restaurant.
Had the blackened chicken flatbread and the house IPA, fantastic service and the food was incredible.
used to be fun but they can't make cocktails and refuse to fix them so don't get mixed drinks here. servers usually good but one waitress asked for more tip 2 times then freaked out when we didn't give her more on a $3 coffee. seems like she had a bad day but ever since haven't gone back
I really like the rooftop patio here but the last few times I've gone (in the last 2 months) the service has been lacking and the food has taken a long time to arrive. On the upside they've got a great beer selection and brew many varieties of which the Würzburger is my favourite and I highly recommend trying. If they can get service fixed up I think this is a place I'll continue to keep on my list!
No host stand, nowhere to check in for our reservation. It was mother's day so they were quite busy. Food was good as was the service
Dont go here for food or if you like good beer.
Always great food and friendly staff! We didn’t know they served breakfast until recently so I’m sure it will be our new favourite breakfast spot! Delicious!
Unfortunately this establishment would not allow me to sit ON THE PATIO without a mask on, even though I have an exemption. Sad that they are refusing to serve the very people who have been fighting to keep small businesses open this whole time
Awful food...who put lettuce in nachos
Great time I will return soon
Long established family business, run by good and hard working people.
The food wasn’t the greatest and I wasn’t feeling the best after I left. I was not impressed to find out about extra charges on my bill without including other charges and taxes you need to pay. This extra charge goes towards the owner contributions without including a tip yet which I later found out from a server. You’re already contributing to the owner by going to the restaurant and providing your business by purchasing something to eat and/or drink. No matter what the amount is, no one deserves to be charged with hidden fees or charges. I will not be back.
Great wings and great service. This place is a fixture of the city. Highly recommend
Perfect wings!
Great lattes and a pretty fantastic classic breakfast.
Great Wings! Super friendly waitress this time too. Much enjoyed. Thanks
Order and pay at the counter and they’ll give you a number to place on your table of choice. Very cozy atmosphere, homefries are the best I’ve had in town. Lots of unique options on the menu!
Best local restaurant. Always has been. Always has been ????
Food and service was fine but the place is run by a psycho. Sonia the dictator. Thinks because she signs cheques she can tell her staff what to eat and drink.
Awesome food got to try following covid restrictions to the T.
Were turned away with a group at Lions and told to go upstairs because they had 40 people in Lions and were "too busy". Some members of our group are unable to climb stairs, and the building is not accessible. They stayed downstairs and were unable to get a tea made for them because "the cafe was closed". The rest of the group went upstairs to the patio where we were greeted with awful service. I've never had anything but terrible experiences with Huether. We go once or twice a year on an annual pub crawl and it's horrible service every single time. Last year our group of 6 took a table upstairs and watched servers fight about our table at the bar because no one wanted to serve us. After waiting 25 minutes without anyone coming up to speak to us, we left.
Filed a COMPLAINT with PUBLIC HEALTH. Had dinner with my husband and friends 7 weeks on the patio. We all had salads with our meals. There was visible sand/soil on wilted lettuce. Waitress Michaela was wonderful. Embarrassingly acknowledged dirt and quickly asked if we wanted new salads. We did not. Called owner as a courtesy. He was rude and defensive. Said it was impossible since most of their produce is pre washed or delivered fresh. Kept asking ask me what I wanted him to do. Got no apology. Called PUBLIC HEALTH only to discover owner preempted my call...nice dodge!!!!!!!! Does not change the FACT salad was DIRTY and WILTED!
Great Atmosphere-nice service, but try the "Egg & I" in Hamilton for Best Eggs Benedict
Tasty food, interesting service.
Stopped for lunch. Food was pretty good.
Great beer. Good food. Chill atmosphere.
Great spot for a coffee and baked goods. Staff is always pleasant and everything is very tasty. Cafe is a regular stop on walks Uptown Waterloo.
Service was incredibly slow, took 15 minutes to get a waitress then was not responsive
Ordered two pieces of cheese cake, to say it was not edible would be a understatement. It was so dense it broke off in pieces. Like eating drywall and sour milk. Horrid.
Great place to meet up with friends for some craft beer and good food. If things get crowded inside, there's a large outdoor patio with lots more seating. Great atmosphere with some great beer.
Best wings and I love the sangria.
Cool establishment with several dining rooms and a roof patio. Extensive menu and beer brewed on site. Reasonable prices.
Food, drinks and customer service all great. Pool table was fun. Would go again!
Yikes... not the best leadership here. This has been circulating around local pages as proof as to how this establishment treats their employees... I would never give my business to a company that treats their employees in this manner.
Owner of this establishment reserved the entire pool and arcade game area on a Friday evening for their friends. They were not using any of the pool tables but would not let any paying customers (our group) play. Unprofessional and disrespectful. The server upstairs sent us down after we purchased a round of drinks. Wouldn’t have done that if we knew. Will not be coming here again.
Awesome patio, really good cocktails, the pizzas are wood fire, and pretty good
Hannah went out of her way to ensure we were taken care of and she wasn't even our server. Excellent! Patio was awesome on a Saturday night. Food and drinks were great.
Honey brown lager - the best brew in town
Love the patio, the food and the selection of beers. But! This venue is not accessible! Something that is completely unacceptable in today's world .
Lots of pool tables and cool building. Good service aswell
Service was excellent and food and beverages was top notch.
Many interesting rooms for dining, drinking, and/or listening to live music.
Best chicken wings in town..even great telephone service when ordering out.
I would have said this was one of my favourite restaurants in town pre-covid. However, my experiences since have been disappointing. Ordered wings for take out and they were so dry, hardly any sauce, and we had to add our own. Went for dine in and was disappointed they're no longer serving their in-house brewed beer. As a fan of craft beer, the generic offerings are no substitute- a missed opportunity to showcase some local brews while they've diverted to making hand sanitizer. The menu was extremely limited at the time, but I understand it is now getting closer to what it was. Probably won't return until things go back to normal.
This place is responsible for shutting down a community cultural institution in order to replace it with a VR EXPERIENCE COMPANY (because we just desperately need one of those). On top of this, the food sucks. Do yourself a favour and take your hard earned money elsewhere, perhaps somewhere that doesn't make you feel morally gross. May I suggest the Princess Cafe a few blocks down, where the food is delicious and business ethics, community building and the arts are all supported!
The absolute worst service ever! Asked to speak to a manager, then told no manager on site until 6PM Went back at 6:10PM to speak to a manager and then was told the manager might now be coming in tonight. I spent $92 on 2 burgers and some wings and was treated like garbage... Service has always been "okay" here but today WOW just WOW! I have 8 years restaurant/bar/night club experience and was blown away by the attitude and the way our server was treating us and her other guest. I was waiting for the reality TV cameras to come out from behind the scenes because I thought I was on a restaurant reality TV show....
Great price for the food/drinks you're buying. Cafe potion has a nice quiet and relaxing vibe with good servers, the pool room is great for any large get together soon with friends and on Fridays and the weekends the jazz room is FANTASTIC over all the huether is a solid 4/5
Is this place for real?! I’m not even gonna talk about the subpar food and service, but know it’s just that - subpar! What I really want to talk about is the fact that a community institution, a place that brings people together and showcases the arts, is being forced to shut down due to the greedy owners of the Huether Hotel. The Original Princess has been in the community for 35 years and is now forced to close for some virtual reality space. I’m sorry, what?! This move speaks volumes about the owners’ lack of morals (not giving the Princess a chance to even negotiate?), but it also shows just how shortsighted the owners are. Save your money and go to a better place, with quality food and service. May I recommend the Princess cafe across the street?
I come here for Student-Prof night and I'm never disappointed by the food served. The wings were crispy and juicy, and the pizza wasn't too doughy. They had a lot of cocktails, but they were simple and well priced. The bar has 3 levels with an outdoor patio on the 3rd level, and a café at the bottoms right when you enter. I would definitely recommend this place for social gatherings based on it's ambience, but you'll have to ask the manager about the price.
Brunch was pretty decent
Had a work event here in the Boardroom which was terribly cold for some reason and could not be heated up. Brought it up to the staff several times until they finally gave us the option of moving everything out of the boardroom to the other end which was actually a few degrees warmer for some reason. The service was friendly but problematic, several mixed up orders and delays. My food was fine but nothing I'm going to rave about, I had the salmon. Other's in my group had issues with their food coming on time or having it available from the menu. If I ever do hold another venue here it will be awhile and not in the boardroom during the winter.
Unfortunately, my recent experience at the further was not a positive one and has left many of us feeling that we may not return. The service was poor, the food was not very good.......And we all felt that "covid" was an excuse ......as they have always had a patio. Very, very disappointed.
Great place
I was very disappointed with the service at this place. I was part of a private party of around 50 people on the patio and throughout the night the servers just stopped serving us. And when some of us went up to the bar inside to ask for drinks, the servers were quite rude and said we were only allowed to give orders outside, where our party was. They then said they were going to stop serving certain people who were “out of control” (which completely was not the case) and so they would only take orders from certain people. They also seemed very flustered and unprofessional with that big of a group - if they couldn’t handle catering to an event like that, they shouldn’t have hosted it. One of the guests in my party even spoke to the manager, but that didn’t resolve anything. The food was also mediocre and the sangrias and mojitos were way too sweet and tasted like there was nothing in them. I would recommend if you’re looking for a place to host a party, to go elsewhere (i.e. McCabes, patent social, stark and perri)
great wings, service is a little slow
Always great servers. Very attentive.
Server ignored me this afternoon while attending pleasantly to my friend who I brought around 4pm Sat Oct 2. She never looked me in the eye, had an irritated tone and ignored only me - from the minute I walked up to the place. And I could tell she gossiped about me to her co workers who would side-eye me as they passed. Warning - rude and preferential treatment here. Filthy toilets covered in blood and dried urine stains, bathrooms look like they haven't been cleaned in days. Patio filled with flies and squirrels. The burger bun had no sauce so it was dry as a desert - same with the casear salad. And I was charged an alcohol fee??? Nothing's changed in the years since I've last been here. This service reminded me of why I don't bring anyone here anymore - it's a classless spot. Stick to white rabbit, backyard or prohibition.
The place is a local staple. Great wings. Good Beer made in house. Service can be slow at times.
Wings are delicious here along with great pizza, service is great too. One of our favourite spots
Great food and service. Things are challenging during covid for restaurants but you didn't feel that at all here. Tried a couple of their beers and loved them. Went well with the Schnitzel!
Always cozy, warm and friendly atmosphere at Huether. They were very accommodating and professional for customer service. Breakfast was delightful with good price. Always great choice was healthy French onion soup cooked by chef’s recipe. It was very delicious and beyond expectation. Excellent selection of traditional breakfast menu!!! Highly recommend for family event, birthday party, anniversary, celebration,..etc.
My husband and I came in and got seated. It took 20 minutes with servers passing by us and no recognition at all from anyone. So we left. No one even asked us about drinks. We had to up and leave. This place doesn't even deserve 1 star but I had to give something in order to comment. #hirebetter
Great environment for a beer and billiard night
Felt comfortable with COVID protocols. Good food. Nice atmosphere
Ordered the French Onion soup which I think was very tasty and well seasoned. My girlfriend ordered a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon which I also think was very tasty. My only reservation is that the girl who helped us wasn't very friendly and I felt that she was a little snarky, not something I really look for in a server. Additionally, my girlfriend ordered an iced tea and it got brought to our table hot. Overall, I feel that it wasn't a bad experience but I can't justify a 5 star review because in my opinion 5 star reviews shouldn't be given unless exceptional quality/service is present.
Excellent service, OK pulled pork. Thanks Ashley!
Great food, friendly and efficient service, and a lovely patio with a covered roof and ceiling heaters that kept us cozy and dry even when it poured rain.
I'll be back December 6 for bday party then off to starlight
We went for a night out, the Phippen bread had no cheese. The waiter, who was stressed apologized said it would be taken off the order. Instead, sweet potato fries (which I absolutely hate) were randomly offered instead. Not coming back. Not to mention that my four 2 oz drinks felt like they were barely splashed with any alcohol.
Found a dry patio on a rainy day. Perfect. Enjoyed food and beer. Good Friday find b
The cafe had free WiFi, a good study spot
Staff are always friendly and courteous and I enjoy talking with them
Food was mediocre and service was unimpressive. I have been coming here for years but this past visit I found the place seemed a bit tired and could use something to refresh and restore. I would hate to see this place go under. Its been loved by many for years.
Took over 30 minutes before a waitress came to our table. When I kindly and respectfully mentioned to the staff that we hadn't been served for over half an hour, I received a lot of attitude. After ordering, we still didn't receive out drinks for over 20 minutes. Will not come back.
Very cute space but super busy. The table we had was broken and off to the side. Food and drinks were okay.
Lots of great beer options.
This place is a staple of downtown Waterloo. It has been through many stages over the last 50 years. Today, there is a coffee shop at street level, and the Barley Works with an outdoor patio upstairs. They have a great selection of craft beers on tap, as the Lion brewery is part of the building. The food is exceptional. The menu suits a brew pub, with basic pub grub, but it is served kicked up a notch and the flavors are truly exceptional. The decor matches the building, a historic landmark. In a sea of restaurants this one stands the test of time. A great place for a meal.
Bad Bad Bad this place has mediocre food PLUS on the night we went we waited 1.5 hours for the food. since the kitchen is open you can see the wait staff standing there waiting for your food. Wait staff never explained and avoided making eye contact. possible worst place in Waterloo
This is one of my favourite places for drinks and casual dining. Their patio is superb!
With Covid 19 I expect better Every other bar in town is doing a much better job. Some old guy without a mask or gloves was just wiping tables down. I'm almost sure the pizza was frozen. I loved this place but since it reopened completely unsafe. The only thing the are doing right is social distancing.
During our walk in the ols town of Zurich we come across this lovely building and decided to have coffee and snacks before another long walk around the town. History shows that this little cozy building has been in this town for centuries and its history is as follows: Cafe 1842 is located in a historic building in the heart of Zurich. In 1842, the Eberle family opened a bakery which would later become the “Schober Confiserie”. In 1874, the confectioner Theodor Schober-Wolber acquired the building and founded the now famous cafe in the new baroque style. As of their food... must try is their hot choco, hazelnut cake and their cheese quiche. You can’t go wrong with these choices... 11032019
Best wings in Waterloo. Just beats out Morty's because they include veggie sticks and dip. But the service can be quite slow at times. I usually go up the Barley Works bar and grill which has a really good atmosphere, but the entire building and all it's spaces are very cool.
Our favourite pub in KW. Food is consistently good and their beer tops off the meal perfectly. If you can get a table on the upstairs patio you will not want the evening to end.
A classic in Waterloo for more years than I can count! Always good bar grub, particularly good chicken wings, and a wide selection of home brews.
Genuinely one of the worst establishments I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. The management are terrible, their food is highly questionable, and they exploit the hell out of their employees to pinch every cent they can. It's too bad that such a cool building with interesting history is owned by them.
Excellent atmosphere, craft beer, and pub grub
We sat at Barley Works portion of the hotel. It was great, really enjoyed the atmosphere and service. The beer was tasty as well but did have one thing to mention. Originally, the plan was to sit in the basement at a different portion of the hotel, but the whole place was closed. It was unclear that the only open spot was upstairs. I'm sure they had the same fare, but clear signage would have been beneficial. We really enjoyed the food, tacos were fresh and the Buffalo chicken sandwich was quite enjoyable as well.
Good food and service. Three consistent Ingress portals.
Love this old place if you haven't been, put it on your to-do list.
Great burgers. Excellent service.
A good selection of local brews.
Very disappointed in the owners of the Huether Hotel for their short sighted decision to end the Princess Original's tenancy. We come ALL THE WAY from Kitchener -often- to view movies we can't see elsewhere, and often stay afterwards to chat about the movie over a coffee or beer. I know many other people who do the same. We will feel the loss of the Princess on the cultural life of this city just as I am sure that the Huether will feel the loss on their business.
Had a fam lunch there. I ordered the steak salad. Large seeing but it was awesome! Great atmosphere. Great service!will go again.
Another excellent Birthday meal for myself and wife. Steak was tender and cooked to my perfection as was my wife chicken alfredo. Together with tasty ceasar and dessert to die for. We keep going back to see our very outgoing waiter whos like the ever-ready-bunny...he just keeps going and going with his excellent service. PS: I miss those the serving trays of 40+ wings and cold beer. Another favourite.
Amazing coffee and breakfast. Great place to meet for a meeting or gathering with friends.
Have had decent experiences in the past, but on our most recent visit we had an 18 year old in the group. Instead of ordering pitchers we asked the waitress for individual drinks, but were told that she wouldn’t serve any of us because one was a minor. Ridiculous
Great coffee items. The decor needs updating, but that is expected with the age of the building
The new summer drinks were delicious, my friends enjoyed the one of a kind beers brewed right on site.... from the pub upstairs to the huge patio, including the large game room with the cheapest pool ive come across in waterloo, we had a great experience ! we ordered some wings as an app and they were fair sized and brought out fast. I would definately come again !!!!!
Excellent place to visit and food is very tasty at reasonable prices.
Cool place to grab some grub and place to grab some grub and beer. Beer is brewed in the building, but it's not the best compared to some of the other local brews. Cool building.
The Princess Cinema is an landmark, and one that I have supported for 30 years. We need more community experiences like this, not an isolating Virtual Reality. I'm very disappointed in the Adlys/ Huether Hotel decision to kill this local jewel.
Good ice cream. I also liked the coffee tables.
All the sports you could ask for and a decent food and drink selection.
Amazing coffee and deserts. Mostly open and sort of empty, so you can have a table. Also, if you have a laptop or phone and you have the charger with you, it's easy to find plugs around the cafe. Great people are working there
Amazing beer. Delicious food. Fantastic atmosphere indoors and out.
My friend and I walked in to have a nice dinner. At the end, we left feeling very dehumanized and embarrassed. The whole thing started after we had ordered 2 bottles of water. After serving the water, the waitress proceeded to insist that we pay for the water before ordering our meal. How absurd I thought? However in questioning her, I quickly realized we were being discriminated. She lied that it was ‘policy’ to pay before eating and the ‘manager‘ himself revealed that was because of a prior issue they claimed to have with my friend (and NOT due to ‘policy’) This ‘manager’ was a smallish, blond man who claimed to be the owner of the establishment. We were trying to have dialogue with him and when he got frustrated with being civil, he turned hostile and violently asked my friend and I to leave. He looked me in my face and told me I was irrelevant and that he didn’t care abut anything I said. Imagine my shock! I believe he lied about his position due to his arrogance, lack of class and plain disrespect for customers. I KNOW no owner would ever behave like that regardless. I’m not saying my friend and I were saints, but we were civil and trying to explain our concerns. This ‘manager’ doesn’t care about business and treats people very poorly. He and his staff lack common decency, respect and don’t take their time to do anything. Rushing to serve food won’t make people come back especially when the service makes you feel less than a human being. I’ve never had such an experience and it was painful but also a harsh learning experience. There are so many uneducated people out there who use agression and hatred to solve simple problems. Édit: I’ve just read a little about the owners of Heuthers online and my anger has been calmed because I know for sure they are not good people, confirmed by many others.
Wings were great. Good service. Quiet for a Friday night
Dare I say Not A Hotel? This kind of review would of been the most helpful in my search. Very confusing restaurant name, regardless of if it USE to be a hotel. #GoodToKnow
Great food
Friendly staff. Fresh tasty food.
Thought I would leave a review. Due to the pandemic I have just started going out again over the last few months. I have to say the Huether is one of my favourite for taking my family or a business client. The menu has so many great items to choose from great for my 11 and 15 year old children and also for Mom and Dad in our 50s. Yesterday I took my Mother 91 and she loved the food as well great selection she said . We had a Bartender named Dee she rocked the room, so attentive and super accommodating. As well 3 of the 5 of us asked for to go containers, the portions were huge. The pricing is very competitive 5 of us $110 tax in ! I highly recommend all restaurants within the Huether facility ....and did I say Best Patio in town . Kindest regards
Pretty cool place. Old hotel converted to restaurant / pub / games room
BARLEY WORKS in Huether. Food was average at best. They were very busy, but food came out way too slow and staggered. For a table of 11 it took 1.5 hours (after all orders placed) to get everyone's food. Do not get the suicide sauce if you order wings. It wasn't that hot and tasted almost like pure vinegar. (and the hockey was in SD not HD to boot)
Went their for jazz night, great food, nice service
The Huther has one of the best patios in the city. We go there often for lunches and they can always accomodate us even though we're a pretty large group. The servers are great, didn't complain once when it started to rain and we wanted to come inside. The portions are generally larger and the food is good. They have house made beers that are an excellent value. There isn't anything pretentious about the place.
Awesome food, fairly extensive drink menu (lots of Caesars) , and friendly staff. Interesting and historic building. Great place to sit down and have a good time with friends, or your favourite gal.
Had a great time at a buddy's birthday party
The cafe has the perfect vibes for getting work done. They're ice coffee is also one of the best I've ever had!
I have never witnessed worse service! We sat ourselves and then were not acknowledged for at least 20 minutes. After 25 minutes that was enough so we just walked out. Never go there
terrible experience, was served burnt tasteless salmon fish, would never go there again in my lifetime. Not to mention the service was lousy and pathetic. Absolutely would not recommend, it was the worst place I have ever eaten at.
Service was good. The food was so disappointing. My husband and I shared a couple of different items from the menu. The nachos were completely stuck to the wax paper and it was impossible to fully remove the paper from the chips. We ordered add on chicken to the nachos and it was pretty much nonexistent. The worst was the classic poutine. The gravy was so burnt and cold which was mind boggling. It couldn't even melt the cheese curds. It was absolutely disgusting. Even the Cesar salad was a fail. The croutons were stale and the bacon crumble was mainly fat. Only thing that was decent that we ordered was their craft beer. The English Ale is amazing and my husband loved the honey brown lager.
One of my wife and myself favourite places to eat and drink
Upstairs bar was very cozy. Friendly staff and a good beer sampler. Went with the kiddo and they brought out crayons and paper etc. Apple pie was a winner.
Good food, a nice patio, and a nice atmosphere. Good place for family dinner or drinks with friends
I love this place! Some of the best beer in the city in my opinion, coming from the Lion Brewery. They also have a variety of restaurants right there. They have a cafe, a downstairs restaurant, and a sport's bar style restaurant upstairs. They also have the Jazz Room which I've heard excellent things about. I've only been to the downstairs and the upstairs, and the food is top notch. Plus, the upstairs (The Barleyworks) has a great deck for eating outside.
Food was good, Beer was great, service was brutal.
