Decent brewpub - nothing amazing, but solid

Beers are amazing and the place is beautiful! Unfortunately, I found myself to be slightly disappointed lately; cocktails aren't great and food quality can drop at times for some reasons. I don't know if there was a change of staff but some things just don't taste the same everytime I go. I ended up avoiding this one and prefering the waterloo location as it's quality in food and cocktails seem much higher. Nonetheless, this is a really nice venues for a hangout or a family party.

They have a wide selection of house brews and guest brews, many that I've never heard of. I ate their daily special and it was very enjoyable. The menu has many vegetarian options and many more ways to alter items for vegetarian suitability. I like that. They also do meatless Mondays!

I have come back to change my initial 4-star review of Abe Erb. Based on food alone, I would give them 5 stars but when ranking an experience while dining out, unfortunately for Abe Erb there are other factors that need to be considered as well. After a fairly long wait to be seated (please note this was at 9PM, there was no line, empty tables and quite a few staff clearly available), we sat for at least 10 minutes without anyone approaching us to introduce themselves/place order/etc. The food also took quite a while to come out, I get that good food can take time but there was no one else placing any food orders. There was music blasting so loud, I actut couldn't hear a word my partner across the table from me was saying and kept jokingly pretending to yell. Once we finished our food, our server walked by the table multiple times for about ten minutes and paid us no attention. Was more interested in his conversation with fellow staff. It was ridiculous. I'm really unimpressed.

Been many times, never had a bad experience. Food is amazing and large selection of beverages. Last visit they were very busy and service was really slow. However the staff handled it very well and management was present, acknowledged the wait times and was very apologetic. Definitely made up for the longer than usual wait. Would highly recommend the Kitchener and waterloo location, haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Ayr location yet.

Came here for a private party, the room was located in the basement which was both a positive and negative. The positive was that it was a wide open space, with a tv for the game and quiet enough to talk the negative was that the serving staff did not come down as often as I think they would if you were at a table upstairs. The food was good though, and the atmosphere was nice.

Heard such good things. Some of the worst service I’ve received. We sat at a table for 15 minutes before anybody even acknowledged us, and that’s as after speaking to two different employees. We ordered one flight of beer and a growler, and spent over an hour and a half there. We were going to order food but thankfully we didn’t because it would have been an all night event.

I was quite disappointed with the experience at this location. Service was extremely slow, considering the group I came with made a reservation a full day before for a table of 9. Our reservation was for 1 pm and upon arrival the space didn’t seem overly busy. Our drink order was taken within 5 minutes but waited a at least 20 minutes to have our food orders taken. We waited over an hour and a half for our food and there was one meal that wasn’t served until nearly the 2 hour mark as it wasn’t properly put into the system. Our waitress did apologize for that mishap but did not off any sort of discount or offer even after we mentioned that meal being for the guest of honour’s birthday. Personally, I ordered the fried chicken and waffles with fries for $23 which was mediocre at best and seemed way over priced for the quality of the meal ; being simply a small piece of deep fried chicken, some sauce and one waffle cut up in 3 pieces.

I love this place and everyone there makes you feel like fam. There's always something interesting to drink and often times you'll need to try all the new rotations. The atmosphere feels welcoming and the food is always on point. I strongly recommend doing a flight then pick your favorite as a second round.

Food and drink were fantastic and the service was great! We made the mistake of filling ourselves on beer and pretzels, but the pretzels were outstanding especially with their cheese sauce. We got the beef dip and the burger with Bree and bacon jam, and everything was as good as we could have hoped, as were the fries and sweet potato fries (probably my favourite sweet potato fries actually). I don't think there is a bad choice on their menu.

Had their poutine a while back and it was okay. Fries were hand-cut, over cooked and dry (even with gravy). We got some take-out last night thinking it would be better. Had two orders of burgers and they were both burnt and dry. The fries that came with the burger are hand-cut but over cooked and dry. The order of fish tacos looked nice but was soggy from cabbage juice, and the fish was burnt as well. The grill residue gave off a weird smell and made the fish bitter. I heard beer is okay but the food was subpar for the prices they are charging.

The Kolsh and Bravo were decent, the Eureka was pretty bad, the Buggywhip was the worst attempt at an American I.P.A that I've had.

I absolutely love this place, the staff are friendly and helpful, the food is incredible and the beer... Wow. The 1857 Kolsch is crisp and refreshing and goes down really easy. The menu is not static and items switch out from time to time. Amazing comfort foods, chicken and waffles, schnitzel, Mac and cheese as well as salads, fish, soups and burgers.

While I've been here a number of times, today stands out as one worth reviewing. Rating my overall experience as a 4 but tonight itself was a 5. The atmosphere at the location was pretty low key yet friendly and it happened to be quiz night which was a nice added bonus! I ordered the polenta bruschetta which was absolutely delicious (though a tiny bit heavy on the onion for my personal preference). The polenta had a great combination of textures from a crisp portion along the bottom to an almost custardy consistency through the rest. The balsamic reduction was a lovely counter to the sharpness of the onion and sweetness of the other vegetables. Definitely something I would crave again. Overall a highly enjoyable evening and seems to be fairly consistent in service and fair.

Service is always pretty slow, but tonight it was painful. Was only able to order two drinks in two hours. Food came out before drinks. Our server was overwhelmed, which happens, but nobody stepped in to help, even though there were at minimum 5 staff on the floor. It took an hour to get our bills and pay.

Location, location, location. This place benefits greatly from its location. From a beer standpoint, its typical microbrew, nice selection from light to dark. Tried the flight, didn't disappoint. Food was pub fair, just ok. Server was absent after drink order. Needed to ask other server to take food orders. Live music was single male playing guitar with vocals. Playing Beatles, enjoyed him greatly.

Great experience here. I have eaten at the waterloo location with my 5 year old son often and loved this location too. Both places have been super accommodating for a kid's needs. This location also has a great kid's menu with drink and dessert included. The burgers were pretty huge for a kid his age and just delicious. Some places don't care about the quality of food on their kid's menu -- Abe Erb is different. Beer selection is excellent, the server was attentive, and all the food was of great quality.

Best nachos on town! Loved their Loop beer (peach and raspberry). It was not too sweet at all, lovely sour taste. Used to love a porter they had called ‘slow burn’. I don’t think they have that anymore but that used to be my go to drink.

This seems to be a constant trend with the other reviews and the owners could care less. There’s far better places to spend your money in the Kw region. Skip this place and save your money. I hate to give 3 stars because the service was fantastic, but I paid 21$ for a charcuterie board and it was embarrassing. It looked like a Jackson pollock painting how they just threw everything on it and what was on it didn't go together at all. Just don't order that. My meatloaf was bland but my boyfriend loved it and his mac and cheese. I wish I tried the burger instead, I hear they are amazing.

Even though the server forgot part of a meal, and took it off the bill, there was no apology for it. He did bring the item to table, after I said I didn't want it anymore, and said "well you can take it with you or leave it, but it's ready and off the bill".......ummm ok.

Every time we get there after our meeting we just get the late night menu at 9:30 pm we show up once a month and pretty reliably bring at least 10 people. The prices are a bit much and the last time I was there my fries didn't come until long after all of my friends were done eating and I was still charged full price. Needless to say we will be looking elsewhere in the future for a place to eat for us and our events.

Abe Erb's war on flavour. To cut to the chase: I ordered the chicken sausage with kimchi jam. I think it is reasonable to expect a dish that is described as containing kimchi to be hot, spicy, and to exhibit the flavours of kimchi. But that isn't the Abe Erb way, as I've learned from previous meals. When the sausage arrived, I was treated to a desiccated bun, topped with an adequate sausage and a smear of red condiment. While eating my meal, it took all my powers to imagination to convince myself that there just might be a homeopathic smidge of kimchi somewhere. You may ask, why didn't I complain, or send it back? Answer: this was my 4th visit to an Abe Erb location, and I'd had to do that on 2 of the previous 3 visits with meals that were not as advertised. (ask me sometime about the lack of jerk flavour in their "jerk" chicken.) I didn't have the heart for that anymore. Anyone who has read my other reviews of Abe Erb will know that I am very unimpressed with the whole she-bang: the beer, the service, and especially the food. I hadn't tried the new Kitchener branch, so I let myself be dragged for an impromptu Friday post-work gathering with friends for the meal described above.

Went with a group of 8. Service was slow. Beers were good. Had a flight of 4. Had the Tuna bowl, which was very tasty. The small garden salad (extra to the tuna bowl) was not mixed properly so all the dressing was at the bottom of the bowl. There was no choice of dressings provided. Overall it was a peasant experience, and I'd probably come back again.

Meh. The waterloo location is much better. Went for my boyfriends birthday, made a reservation but we were waiting for it to be ready for 10 minutes even though the dining area was empty. Had LARGE group (20+) in for some corporate event which was so loud we could hardly hear each other, and honestly it was a bit ridiculous considering they have a private area upstairs. Waitress seemed overwhelmed. Food was not nearly as good as it was in the past, vegetables and risotto were under cooked. Will not return.

The beer is terrific, however have been out of their transatlantic for about 1 month now. The chicken schnitzel was over cooked and the fries had more salt than my driveway. Forget going to Lowe's to find salt anywhere in Kitchener... Go to Abe Erb and get ten orders of fries... That'll clear your ice problem!

The Kitchener location is notably worse than the Waterloo location when it comes to the speed of service. I just left after waiting for 10 minutes at the bar waiting for a beer. The restaurant wasn't busy at all and I wasn't even acknowledged or told they would be with me shortly. Beyond that the atmosphere is okay. Central location and lots of free parking out front.

We made reservations here for a large group and they were able to accommodate us. There's a good range of food available at a price point in line with any bar/pub style establishment in the area. The parking lot is a bit small for the plaza, but we didn't have trouble finding a spot. If you're visiting at peak times, plan for the possibility of needing alternative parking. The atmosphere inside is laid back with an interesting open concept design.

Decent beer (I liked two out of seven) but really poor service. Waitstaff are sitting around a table and talking to each other instead of being attentive to their tables. One of the bartenders spilled salad dressing on the floor and it splashed on me and he didnt even apologize just told one of the waitresses to clean it up. But sick plaid shirt bro, you look real cool delegating tasks to your subordinates.

Great beer menu. We had the spicy wings and they were, to die for. Perfect level of spice if you like spicy food. Not too much, not to the point that you cannot enjoy the flavor but not something bland or just salty in the name of hot. They have a beautiful patio area where you can relax with your ???? dog if you have one. The staff were very kind and friendly to us and our four legged friend. They got him a bowl of water to calm him down and gave us a corner table so he had his space as well.

I meant to write this months ago but I kept putting it off and it's been haunting me ever since: that's how much we loved our experience at Abe Erb and our server. Specifically I want to shoutout our server: Jarvis (Garvis?). He was AMAZING - super friendly, knowledgeable on the menu, and very helpful. My boyfriend and I have been coming to Abe Erb (Kitchener location) for over a year since moving to the area; so we frequent this place a lot. In all honesty, some of the servers are not super amazing and can be unfriendly/unhelpful. But the food + Jarvis makes this place so great! Also the beer is amazing here. Give Jarvis a raise. Also please bring back anything with smoked cheese sauce (on nachos or fries preferably).

Really nice, relaxing environment inside this two-floor micro brewpub. Big menu with lots of food. All staff are very pleasant, including the manager who isn't the type of guy only to be found talking/in the back office or something. Half the time I visit to purchase some beers from the bottle shop, he's the one ringing me through. Beers are all great, the ones available in the LCBO are easily their "starter" beers. You have to visit the actual place to get the full experience of Abe Erb's brews. Definitely a fan favourite of the KW area and beyond.

We went there as a group of four and got seated quickly. We were served our drinks promptly which were quite delicious. The food didn't take too long but it was definitely worth the wait. Overall I found the service to be very good. We were checked on numerous times regarding drinks and how our food was but not to the point that it was annoying by any means. I will definitely come back here again and look forward to enjoying the next great brew that they have to offer.

I've been here twice, the first time was pricey but it was ok. The second visit was pretty bad, I ordered a Reuben, the food took almost an hour to come out, other tables who had arrived after I did were served first. So I made a reservation for a Christmas party for The upstairs lounge at their Kitchener location for 20 people. When I arrived I saw a large group in my lounge. I approached staff and they basically told me they had double booked and there was nothing they were going to do about it. They offered be a ground floor booth which although was semi private was very cold as it had window that they didn't want to close with the blinds because it would obscure their open sign. The other thing about this booth was it was not nearly enough to fit our 20 people. At one point it was standing room only until the first group finally left and we were able to move up to the second floor after in the booth for almost 2 hours. Our orders were very slow getting to us if not forgotten entirely. The food was nothing special but the platter deal seemed to workout out well to keep sharing amongst our group. Staff, despite their short comings were very polite but I'm afraid I can't recommend this place nor will I be returning anytime in the near future.

I love this place! They have an excellent, varied, rotating selection of their own beers brewed in house, and guest taps. If you appreciate craft beer, start with a flight of samplers. They also have a decent selection of cocktails and other drinks. Secondly, the food is very good and quite creative I would say for a pub. The last time I went I had the Korean crispy chicken sandwich with house salad - and it was excellent. My only complaint about my last visit is that I found the music a bit loud when we first arrived, but they dialed it down later. It always bugs me if I have trouble hearing the person across from me b/c of the music. A reservation is a good idea if you have a larger group around peak times.

However, the bartender never came and our "server" continued to serve others around us and even took a food order from two other people who arrived AFTER we did! Some of the beer is pretty good, including their house special, which I think is called the 1852? They have a wide selection which is really nice. The food is pretty good but the prices are high and the portions are small. If you want to spend $25 on lunch, then this is the place for you. The burgers are pretty yummy, but the Jambalaya is very untraditional and unlike any Jambalaya I've ever had before.
