We have been coming here for two years (and for the most part we liked this place very much), but this was the last time. We came for brunch at opening and no one came to take our orders for 20 minutes. Additionally, the place was much dirtier than we remember. The floors were dirty, there were coffee stains on the wall, and the restaurant smelled like something was burning badly. The staff were quite rude and careless, which is quite unusual for this place. The staff that worked there before were very friendly and professional. Now the food. The coffee wasn't as good as always, and the BLT breakfast came with two cherry tomatoes on the side, instead of the usual tomato slices in the dish. The waffles were undercooked and slightly cold, the bacon was overcooked and so tough a regular knife couldn't cut through it. The salad leaves didn't look fresh. They were also out of ketchup (and avocados). The one redeeming aspect of this breakfast was that someone found ketchup eventually and we could enjoy our (also undercooked) home fries with ketchup.

Food is very good, beer is very good, service is good too, but why would the owner put a piano in a 54 seat space? Music can’t be anything but loud in this room. The pianist was good, but I was seated next to the piano and had to cover my ears. We moved to the bar to finish our dinner. Server took our second beers off the tap, it was appreciated. Apparently Thursday-Saturday is live music. And people come to the restaurant just to listen to it. So, it was light jazz. Who is listening to this type of music? There weren’t many customers under 30. Mostly 40-50. People this age like to have it quiet. We’re half deaf already and don’t need to become totally deaf. I will come back but not during music time. But then, I usually stay home Sunday-Wednesday.

Mixed feelings. I was quite enamoured after my first visit to the restaurant. Excellent service, and absurdly delicious food. However, I was very disappointed with the quality of my recent take out order. It felt low effort, and certainly tasted like it. I would not order take out again. That being said, I will return to eat in the restaurant once possible. I'm confident that it will once again be excellent, and I'd definitely recommend.

I used the pre order option for their Thanksgiving day menu. Pick up was fairly easy with the exception of a longer than expected wait time given that it was ordered days before and a set time established. However the wait was well worth it. Food was piping hot and delicious. Server offered drinks while we waited and their bone broth. Large tented outdoor section was available.

Located in a quiet neighborhood, a gem to enjoy some hearty meals. I ordered the charcuterie & flank steak. The lamb cuts from the charcuterie are amazing and would have no problem just eating that with the crisps. The medium steak was tender with enough greens to give it some bite. Glad to have found this place in my short stay in Ottawa.

Not highly impressed with this place. Prices definitely high for our experience. Food was not exactly bland but it didn't leave much of an impression either. Plating was nice but it was more promise than performance. Service was polite but they weren't really available when you needed them. Clearly they have a pretty high opinion of themselves when they don't bother to ask you how the meal went. If you're coming here for the promise of German or Austrian inspired cuisine, you're not going to leave satisfied.

It is rather a 3.5-star review, but I rounded it up to 4 for their little community garden. Patio is rather a tent with one wall missing - it's not as good as an anti-COVID-19 preventive measure as having fresh air running through. Positive sides: food was quite tasty, great staff attitude, there was one heater in the tent. Negative sides: the heater was far from us, fish was over-salted, portions were small-ish (for quite some price), but most importantly, everything was plastic, not eco-friendly: plates, glasses, cutlery.

I cannot praise Das Lokal enough. The waiter (Elora?) was fantastic, taking on the challenge of finding the perfect wine pairing in stride. The food was excellent and beautifully presented, though I probably would've gone for the Arctic char or the short ribs over the duck. The space is a little dark but very cozy and wonderfully quiet. Pro tip: get the crème brûlé. That thing is MASSIVE.

Arrived for dinner at 6:30pm, they were pretty busy and seemed they only had one server. My party was not in any rush, so it was no big deal for us. Had an Americano with Bailey's and the quash soup to start. The soup was great, I would recommend. I had the schnitzel and it was great. The side and presentation was awesome. Their dill sauce definitely made a big, great impact on the dish. Wish there was more of the sauce on the plate but I also didn't ask for more on the side. All well. Would absolutely recommend eating in here. Delicious for sure

I absolutely enjoyed my dinner. For a laid back environment, my server, Félix, served me with a level of service you'd expect at a 5-star NYC restaurant. For my first course, I had the scallops. They were perfectly seared, and had all the strata of texture you expect in a seated scallop. For my entrée, Félix recommended the Schnitzel. I was not disappointed. Not too greasy, plenty of flavor, and enough to satisfy my appetite. Finally the Blackforest Cake for dessert. A large slice on a slate, not overly sweet, and lighter than expected. Overall, I found the food and service to be most excellent, and hope you take the time to try Das Local at the northern end of the By Ward market.

Really excellent experience here tonight. There was a mix-up with the prix fixe menu and we were given some incorrect information but the server honoured the deal we were quoted. Wonderful staff, absolutely unreal cocktails.. I had the "reversed Manhattan" it was made with port and bourbon which actually tasted fantastic! The food was alright. The pretzels were good but we didn't really enjoy the cheese that came with them, it was a bit overpowering. The spätzle was still quite good but they changed it from how they used to make it. It used to be crunchier which was really delicious and unlike any other spätzle I've had before. Would go back again for cocktails and the service.

The Canadian take on German Currywurst with something that my sister thought looked like poutine was so delicious! The price for a salad was quite hefty and it wasn’t spectacular. I had flat iron steak which was probably the tastiest steak I've had in a long time. FANTASTIC Restaurant!!! The food was beyond compare, literally the very best Waffle I've ever had! 1. The Waffle - it was supple and velvety. Soft and it promises that no matter what, this is going to be an amazing meal 2. The Arugula - fresh and crispy, full of flavour 3. The Egg - perfectly poached, it was soft as a cloud, dense but not heavy and the yolk was runny but not messy and not overcooked. 4. The German Sausage - A visit to flavour-town! What a beautiful space, and we were delighted to enjoy some live music this past weekend. Our server was busy, but still checked in and provided good service. The food was exceptional, the schnitzel especially was so tasty. We also ordered the bratwurst, which came with a nice strong mustard and a light cabbage slaw.

We went here for a group birthday celebration. Overall it was enjoyable. Atmosphere was good but slightly loud. Seating got a bit uncomfortable after an hour or so. The food I ordered (schnitzel) was very good but others in our party were mixed with what they ordered. Servings were generous however a bit overpriced for what you got IMHO. It’s worth a try if you like the menu but we probably won’t return.

Went for dinner. Everything was ok without being great. Food was a bit overpriced for sure, especially considering what you could get elsewhere in Byward for the same price. There was another comment somewhere that the burger was dry and I definitely agree.

Das Lokal is a real find. Thursday to Saturday there's live piano. The ambiance is muted (it was a KFC previously), but the bench seats and large spacious tables are comfortable. But you don't come here for the ambiance, it's the food. Limited menu, but everything we ordered was fantastic. For appetizers, we ordered the warm beet salad and the mushroom baguette followed by entrees of salmon, flank steak, and weiner schnitzel with a side order of spaetzel. Each and every dish was special in its own way and every morsel tasty. Our 2 young kids rated it 5+. If young kids like this kind of gourmet, you know it's good. To top of, desserts were strudel and black forest cake. Dessert are made in house and they're sooo good. Not sickly sweet, made with just the right amount of sugar and other goodies. When we are back in Ottawa, we will visit this gem again.

Appy Hour ! Great cocktail of the day for six dollars! And 5 dollars for a draft beer ! We had dinner ,my wife had the schnitzel with beets spatze and I had mahi mahi with black lentils and root vegetables. Both meals were delicious. The servers were very efficient and welcoming. Even the owner stopped by to inquire as to our meals. The restaurant was busy even at the early dinner hour. Great food and service.

The food and piano on Saturday are excellent. The restaurant is small so large groups may not make it without a reservation. The prices are a bit on the high side but the food is delicious! Only con is service was slow as we were there for over 2 hours. They definitely took their time preparing the food. If you had any questions about their menu the server explained all your questions.

During a short visit to Ottawa Das Lokal was right around the corner from our Airbnb. Our first visit was for cocktails on Thursday night (2 people). The drinks were excellent and the server was very friendly. There was live piano starting at 7ish and it set a perfect atmosphere! We visited the next night for charcuterie and drinks and had the same excellent experience (6 people). The charcuterie is a build your own combo and it is very generous. Again we had cocktails and they were well balanced, creative and not too pricey. We shared mussels too which had beautiful flavour. This is a must visit as far as I am concerned and next time I am in Ottawa I will be going back! Thanks to the bartender, servers and kitchen for a great experience.

Stopped by at this place on the way to blue mountain because it had good reviews. Had a pretty basic burger and fries. I very much enjoyed the burger, the meat tasted fresh and was well formed into the patty. Toppings were the usual basics but all tasted fresh and were well balanced. Not a huge fan of the fries, also the serving size for other dishes seemed inconsistent. Would stop by again.

Was very disappointed with our brunch today. This place is usually really well reviewed and popular but something has changed in the kitchen... our eggs benny was hard boiled and some of our potatoes not fully cooked. The patio was not particularly busy and we waited 45 mins for our food. The table next to us also waited a long time for their food and one client waited particularly long watching her friends eat their breakfast while she waited for her frittatta. We also had to find our server when we wanted more coffee. We really wanted to support a local small buisness but 63$ for 2 breakfast meals with coffee that was poorly cooked was disappointing. We also were not greeted when we arrived. (We were not sure if we should seat ourselves or not. ) Then there was construction on the patio when we started having our coffees.

This location is amongst my favourite locations for brunch in Ottawa. They take reservations which is difficult to find for brunch service, especially on a weekend. The staff is all incredible and the menu is clean, simple and straight forward and everything is delicious. Great quality ingredients and really nice presentation. Free parking is a bonus! I had such a great experience at Das Lokal! I had the mahi mahi which was flaky and moist with a cripsy skin. The lentil and ragout were exceptional and complimented the fish well with it's earthy and a bit of coconut milk flavour. The dish also had two thin lemon flakes that you can cut into pieces and incorporated with each bite of the fish; this added another dimension to the dish and made for an amazing bite. The ambiance was great and the staff were amazing and very attentive. I got a free Austrian strudel by showing them a Facebook post. The strudel was warm and comforting especially when mixed with the whipped cream. The yogurt and the fruit was nice to have to clean your palate as the strudel can be a bit heavy after a few bites.

Food was cold and mediocre at best. We were charged $25 for an item that was listed on the menu as $20. Asked for eggs on the side for our benedict due to an allergy but the kitchen forgot. Asked for more hollandaise sauce since most of it was lost removing the eggs ourselves and were charged an extra $3 for their mistake. Waitress was ok but the restaurant inside was cluttered and dirty. The staff inside when we went to pay weren't wearing masks and the lady at the cash was abrupt and rude, especially when we disputed the extra charges. Really disappointing experience.

Had a phenomenal tasting brunch. This spot is cute and cozy. I’m extremely grateful they take reservations on Sundays. The only thing lacking was the waitress wasn’t that attentive and I ordered one of each side but was missing three. Besides that the food and ambiance was awesome!

The foods in this place are just absolutely amazing. They make their chicken with figs tender, not dry. And it has been a while since I had chicken made in such savory quality.
