Amazing turkey burgers... service was a bit slow.
The Stone Jug is one of the most amazing restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of visiting each time I come to Newfoundland. Aside from an unsual waiting time for our food this visit we were restfully advised of the delay and given complimentary drinks. I highly recommend everyone to visit this unique restaurant not only for the exquisite cuisine but to admire the detailed architecture on each level and the absolutely magnificent chandeliers scattered throughout. Also hats off to the chefs and staff for making this years visit so memorable. Denise Baker, Bradford, Ontario
Great food, the servers were excellent. Reasonably priced
Loved the architecture of the building, especially the upper floors! Great food (we had the shrimp pizza and the calamari)!
Great food, simple menu, lovely location, and awesome service. Awesome price too.
Sweet spot! Really cool interior. Had the lamb burger, was excellent. Staff was friendly, but after 8pm when the kitchen closed we were asked to quickly get out of there so the waitress could go home. Would have been nice to be able to enjoy the space a little longer.
If you can get here when they are open, it is a great place to eat. Good selection of food, the wait staff was friendly and the atmosphere is old and historic
Fine cuisine with live music. The old building provides a rustic setting with cozy atmosphere.
Great spot! Awesome meal! VERY friendly staff.
Steak and wedges overcooked, rest of the food was cold.
Great environment.
Just a great venue. Food was very good. Quite an historical building. Drove over to Port De Grave to see the Ship Christmas lights after our meal.
Nice place.
Love The Stone Jug. Always do Tibbs Eve supper with our daughters here. Would like to see a more varied menu. We eat here quite often and have literally tried every thing on the menu. Everything we tried was good but not as many options as other places. Service is always top notch. Great frozen daiquiris.
Excellent food and atmosphere
Great atmosphere. Slow service has always been an issue.
Beautiful building built in 1860's. Building is restored and still has original bricks and stones. The presentation and quality of food is phenomenal! The overall experience is quite nostalgic. Well worth the visit!
Delicious pizza, excellent service, beautiful building
Great place and food
Amazing renovation of a historical treasure. The seafood chowder was delicious.
Best burger ever. Great atmosphere. Superb service.
Lovely atmosphere and great food
Fabulous restruant atmosphere. Food is moderately expensive. I had the montreal smoked meat sandwich and is was the smallest sandwich I have ever had. Very tiny and very little meat and way to expensive for the size of the sandwich. Will not go back.
Great place to go eat
Great food The service is always good and the food is excellent. This is a beautiful old building and it's renovated so well Love it there.
Great food and friendly service.
Beautiful spot , stunning workmanship on the wooden staircase. Great atmosphere, But the times I've been there it's a long wait for service, the one waitress needs to smile she isn't very nice and can be rude the last time I was in no tip for her I spend my money on food and drink (it is pricey for sub par food), I deserve great service and if you're having a bad day don't take it out on your patron or if you're not happy serving the public don't be a waitress.
Good atmosphere, nice staff, good food. Would go back!
Food was great
Had dinner here the last time I was home with my sister in law. Food was great but unfortunately we couldn't have a conversation due to the LOUD singers (band) on the stairs steps from us.
Beautiful facility!
Walked in today after 3pm...waited a while before anyone came to seat us...were told that food wasnt being served until 4:30. Hours open do not reflect this. Very disappointing, as I only now had an opportunity to check this place out.
Great food
One of the nicest buildings this side of the province. Great grub.. Good prices.
Good times and good food
Beautiful, historic location that is so comfortable and cozy you might forget you are in a building that is over 150 years old. The food was amazing. Portion sizes were not huge, but not overly small, either. The service was fast and very friendly and helpful. Overall a really great meal experience at an average price point. Definitely will be visiting this location again.
Ate here last night. Had the half-rack of ribs with fries. Best ribs I've ever eaten, no exaggeration. The ribs were tender, falling off the bone, perfectly cooked. The sauce was tangy and sticky and delicious. I think the switch from the seasoned taters to fries was a good move, the fries could have been a bit fresher/crispier, but they were seasoned well, hot and tasty.
First time visiting the Stone Jug today and I have to say I absolutely loved the experience. The building itself is simply incredible - the owners have done an amazing job with it. The food was excellent, the service warm and friendly, and it was a real treat. When we asked our server for some information about the building she even encouraged us to take some time to look around upstairs at the top two floors - which we did! This shot from the former servants quarters on the third floor. Can't wait to go back again. Thank you!
Great music venue. We went for a concert in the third floor concert hall. Great atmosphere and sound. Even the musician, Fergus O'Byrne kept commenting on the beautiful surroundings. Looking forward to trying first and second floors on our next visits.
Not bad.
What a beautiful place with great food and wonderful service.
The place has a great interior setup and beautiful patio so worth the visit. A little disappointed that they didn’t have the full menu options due to COVID. Staff is super friendly. We went there for lunch ordered two pizzas (bbq chicken & white sauce truffle chicken) along with wedges. The food was fine (3/5). I advise ordering the sandwiches instead.
The design of the restaurant and interior decor are quite impressive. They have, as we learned from our server, 71 chandeliers throughout the restaurant with no two alike. We had the burger and wedges and I must say that the food was perfectly cooked and quite tasty. Their burger sauce gives you a hint of garlic without it being too strong (it is a very slight taste note with every bite which compliments the burger very nicely). We will definitely be going back to try their pizza and appetizers. We also liked that we got to sit at a table on the second floor as they had live entertainment on the main floor and we found it a bit loud when we first entered. On the second floor, however, we still got to enjoy the sounds of the entertainment from downstairs while being able to easily hear each other speak. Great spot for date night.
Great service, delicious food, decent prices! Definitely will return!
EXCELLENT location. GREAT food. Well knowledged staff. A proper pizza oven. A proper cappuccino machine. What else could anyone ask for ?
The food here is amazing! The staff friendly and helpful.
Food is a 3/5 but the amazing location makes up for it! Cool spot to check out.
Great food and building is awesome.
Great food and atmosphere. Service was really good. Music was too loud for a conversation comfortably when performers stared.
A very interesting building, the exterior and interior are unique and eye-catching. Live music was a nice touch to the ambiance. Food was good, drinks were nothing special and overpriced. The downside, and this is a big one, was the service. Abysmal would put it mildly. Rushed to order, even though we had just been seated, we were essentially ignored for the remainder of the night. A table of 4 should not take greater than an hour for an order to be completed and brought to the table. Beverages were ordered, completed, and no offer of a refill. No one came to the table in the entire hour until the food was ready. Now, I'm unsure if the evening was extra busy, or if they were short-staffed, but this was ridiculous. Wouldn't come back. You might want to consider avoiding as well.
Loved the atmosphere of this old place home made pizza..
Staff were not masking behind bar despite provincial requirement to mask, it was very noisy and crowed and the food was mediocre
A gem! Beautiful interior in this historic building. Menu was varied and prices moderate. Food was excellent as was the service. Loved the borscht! If you’re visiting Carbonear, it’s the best place to dine.
Food and service were excellent!
My Mom and I dropped by hoping to have lunch at The Stone Jug. A nice waitress offered to clean a table and seat us on the outside deck. When I went to the car to get my Mom and came back the head waitress, I'm assuming, said that we could not have the table that the new waitress shouldn't have agreed to seat us which would have been fine. She then raised her hand and said "stay here" like we were children! People make mistakes however, she then belittled the new girl in front of us! We were floored! How rude and unprofessional! We decided to leave and got take-out up the road at Don's where the waitress was super nice. I can't say that I would never go back because I've heard such good things about the food. The waitress on duty at lunchtime on the deck on Wednesday July 22, 2020 needs to take a customer service course or learn some manners.
Not a bad spot for pub grub.
Great food. Cool ambiance.
Amazing interior design, quite vintage. Food is delicious, with generious portions. Daily specials (addition to menu items) available. Variety or coffee and desert options available.
The building is beautiful and the service is excellent.
Had a staff party up stairs, was one of the best service and meals we ever had. Really enjoyed. Will be back again!!!!!
Fantastic building. We only had a quick drink and look around, so I can't comment on the food. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Beers on tap are limited, but include local favourites. Regardless of selection, it's a lovely heritage building that has been beautifully restored, and is worth a visit even for a glass of water.
Took over 2 hours to be served. Food was good though.
Beautiful Building. Great service.
Food and entertainment is great here.
Great food, awesome atmosphere. Vicki the newfie was an awesome server!
Food is awesome!
Great place great food
Staff and food are awesome! If you're looking for an old-fashioned tavern like experience, this is the place to go!
Highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for amazing food, friendly staff, high quality service and above all beautiful ambience!!
Was asked if we would sit outside. We said yes. Was sat at a table that was soaking wet and was left. We had to put up the umbrella ourself. Was given Plastic cutlery which I thought was odd for a sit down meal. Food was delicious though and came out quickly and hot.
Loved the atmosphere, amazing food and the best Turkey burger I've ever tasted. Mmmmm
Could be better food
The food is good. The prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly enough. My only criticism is if the place is full, wait times are excessive. This would be mitigated if the staff made sure your drink was fresh, but on our last couple of visits we were bone dry and waited way too long. But...support local!
Great place
If you are in the region, I highly recommend the Stone Jug. Dropped in for lunch, great attentive service, nice atmosphere and amazing food - Pizza, salad and soup of the day. The only negative would be the lack of local craft beer on tap. Otherwise, it was the best restaurant meal I've had since landing on The Rock a week ago.
Gluten free options and great atmosphere
Delicious! Good service and good food in a historic building!
Decent food, love the pizza
Ordered a burger and was offered garden salad, Caesar salad and coleslaw as a side... What happened to the fries?!
Pizza was delicious , atmosphere was great as was the service
Great food and drinks!! Beautiful historic building for hosting weddings, work party's or any large or small events!
Really good food! Took a little long to come out for a salad and beer but it was worth the wait. Beautiful establishment.
Lovely dining experience. The food and service were both excellent. Very reasonably priced.and the ambience is second to none, especially if you're a fan of 19th century architecture.
We waited over 40 min from the time we ordered until we received our food. When it finally came it was warm at best. Two tables that were seated after us both received their food before us. All we ordered was burgers.
The food and atmosphere is amazing. Really good vegan pizza.
Lovely food in a beautiful building with great beer, and a live music session on Saturday afternoons. And very family-friendly.
Service was top notch, Food is great as always
The beer was warm but was replaced with another brand. Meal was good. Atmosphere was excellent with local entertainment.
Beautiful building, the chandeliers were gorgeous ! Lunch was good.
Great building and atmosphere.
Awesome atmosphere good food.
Amazing food and beautiful place highly recommend to try there food!!!
Great food!! Beautiful atmosphere!!
Really good... When in Carbonare I would be quite Happy to have a meal there....
This place is amazing so far
Food was amazing and the staff super friendly
Excellent food and table services
While on holiday to Newfoundland we were recommended by a local to eat at the Stone Jug and we were not disappointed. The food was remarkable and with lots of items on the menu there is something for all. I ordered the Oven Roasted Cod which was perfection and my guest had the 1860 Mediterranean salad, which was well enjoyed. Bon appetite!
Good service and nice ambiance. Just had finger foods but they were great!
The chowder was not very good and the caesar was small and expensive.
Really nice old-style pub. Everything is wood panelled and looks great, the loft room at the top of the building is a nice space and has a pretty historical timber roof truss. Stopped in for some beers and some pickle fries, everything tasted delish and the service was friendly, casual and professional.
Had a great experience, food was excellent.
Good food, prices are a little on the higher for the quality of the food. The service was not on par for the classification of the restaurant but it's relatively new so hopefully they will get better.
What a wonderful find. The old stone building is stunning. The pizza is to die for.
The service almost always leaves something to desire, but the food makes it worth the trip every time.
Nice building. That's about it.
Great setting! Great location! Great service! Great food. We will be back
Great place, great food, reasonably priced...????????????
Great ambiance, extensive restorations with an inviting menu.
This place was fantastic. The food was amazing with plenty of flavour. Our group had a couple different pizzas, back ribs and pad Thai. All were great but the Truffled Chicken and Mushroom pizza topped the list. We arrived before the dinner rush, so our server suggested we take a look around the building which was built in 1860.
Yum yum yum....that is all.
Rated the restaurant "5" because there was absolutely nothing that was amiss. Atmosphere, service and food were top drawer. The Rourke burger was unbelievable (and large).
Beautiful, rustic architecture. Great food.
Nice ambience whoever staff was rather unpleasant. I have business in town and will give them another try next time through.
Great atmosphere and service, good food but little pricey.
A must go. Been here every time while visiting home. A yearly tradition. Amazing Pizza food selection is massive portions are great. Prices are great. Great beers. Amazing historic atmosphere. Beauty spot.
Good food
I had the vegetarian pizza and my mom went with the daily special (which was a smoked salmon pizza). Very tasty, but the crust was slightly (just slightly!!) undercooked. The Round Da Bay chowder was delicious, according to my mom! The decor is worth the detour if you're not already in the area!
All excellent - the place, the service, the meal.
What an amazing lunch we had!!! Service was great and food was fantastic!!
Some of the best local dishes and great selection of alcohol and beers
Absolutely stunning interior, and the food was to die for. The Chowder was unreal, and so was the pizza.
Excellent food and Service, don't go too hungry, very busy and you will wait a while for food, but worth the wait.
great music, great food and great service. highly recommend!!!
The pizza was delicious. Lots of character in this building
It's a larger establishment with multiple levels. However, it has a cozy feel. The food was very good.
Food was good.....service was just ok....and $12 for half a sandwich was a bit pricey......beautiful building...
Great pub in Carbonear. I had lunch here with my partner on a quiet weekend afternoon and had a great experience. The pizza and salad were both delicious and reasonably priced, and our server was attentive and friendly, chatting with us about different sites to see around Carbonear and Victoria. I definitely recommend stopping in here for a meal.
Man what a special place that everyone should experience. The wood fired pizza is phenomenal too!
Food was impeccable. Service was fantastically friendly and prompt. Atmosphere was very impressive. Old building with rustic wood finish. Would come again.
Outstanding atmosphere, very cozy and classic building, reminiscent of an Irish tavern. Very spacious with second and third floor venues for events. Great local beer on tap, and great food. The best chowder on the east coast. Though the menu is terrific, it could be a little more expanded. Limited wine selection. Highly recommended.
Atmosphere, food and service are fantastic!
Wow! Atmosphere plus. Food is fantastic Live music was perfect. You could hear it but still have conversation. The building is a work of art.
Food and service was excellent
Beautiful inside good history, lovely staff.
Excellent lunch, great service, and a unique interior.
Visiting the area and after several just-ok restaurant meals, it was a pleasant relief to find good food, excellent service and amazing ambience. Our party of five were all satisfied with their entrees although the cole slaw and sauerkraut were peculiar to some. Dessert gave everyone an excuse to eat just a little too much and Terri, our server, made us all feel very welcomed. The new owners did a great job in renovating from the awesome chandeliers to original wood and brick work. Would have gladly spent an afternoon if not in route.
Me and my boyfriend had an absolutely phenomenal meal! From start to finish! Gorgeous atmosphere, delicious drinks and exquisite food!! Everyone should take the time to make the trip out to here to enjoy everything it has to offer including the beautiful ocean view! Everything we ordered was a 10/10 Drinks: Pineapple smash Strong bow Food: Dry Cajun wings (starter) Rokke burger AAA Striploin with horsey mash potatoes Side Mac & cheese Desert: Homemade cheesecake with homemade blueberry preserve Sending huge thanks to our fantastic server Carolyn! Who gave us a perfect experience! Can’t wait to be back for more! Again if anyone was thinking of trying out the historical 1860 stone jug.... DO IT NOW! You most definitely won’t regret it!!!!!
GOOD food..excellent Staff...
Great place, food excellent
Great food, beautiful restaurant.
Beautiful updated decor that honours its history. It features an open kitchen that draws you in to want to try everything on the menu. Speaking of the menu; while traditional, it also features unique options. The special on my visit was chicken tacos with cucumber kimchi, however I opted for the artisan pizza while watching them being prepared (the veggie pizza was delicious). The staff was very friendly, although very busy. Pricing was reasonable, especially considering the quality of the meal. Will definitely return and encourage you to visit if you ever make it out this way.
Great food set in a NL heritage building... Check it out.
Wonderful atmosphere. Good but limited menu. Good service.
Beautiful building, friendly staff. We had spinach dip and Flatbread pizzas. Everything was delicious.
This is definitely a GEM the food and service are above and beyond expected. Try the Lamb burger and Codwich for sure.
Love this place, friendly atmosphere and great food
Awesome
Wonderful place to dine in Carbonear Nfld
Never there
Great atmosphere and excellent quality food!
Decent food. Burger was a tad overdone, but toppings were good. Ploughman's is a decent size with great cheese. Desserts and the Grill were the best parts.
I enjoyed my food; however, my friend was not overly impressed with her wrap. It was a birthday lunch my friend took me for and our meal came to $70...it was lunch!!! Soup, sandwiches, deep fried pickles and a drink each. They were busy so a reservation is suggested. They have a small menu right now due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Great food. Cold restaurant.
Very professional staff. Beautiful place. Very enjoyable music acts. A must see
The building itself was amazing and it was complimented by fantastic staff and food. First time there and made to feel right at home
Incredible building, excellent meal!
Love this building ,history and atmosphere ...food good .cold beer on tap...dont be in a rush when you go there
Great craic wit traditional Irish-Newfoundland music & a screech-in
Good sea food
Great food and service. Will return again
Great food, decent prices, cold local beer and wonderful atmosphere. The building has been beautifully restored. If you dine on the the main floor be sure to visit the second and third floors for a look. We enjoyed the daily special, a smoked meet melt and chili cheese fries. Our son loved the wood fired oven cheese pizza from the kids menu. All the food was fresh and delicious and the staff were fast, efficient and friendly.
ABSOLUTELY Beautiful
7 of us went to the stone jug. We arrived at 215, we got all of our drinks except 1. We had to wait for that. Then we had about an hour wait for our appetizer which was really good. Then we ordered pizza which was disgusting, we didnt eat it. We ordered 3 sandwiches and they were cold and the worst sandwiches I've had in my life. We asked for the manager, and she was the most obnoxious rude person I've ever met in my life. After fighting with the manager, she took off the two pizzas and one sandwich. I had to wait 15 mins for a refill on my drink. The worst dinner I've ever had. Over priced. Slow service. Will not return and will not reccomend the stone jug to anybody. The manager told me I was the worst customer she ever dealt with in her 30 years of business and refused to give me the owners information. I only wanted to pay or what was eaten. Horrible management. Dont waste your time and money. AND it was so cold we couldn't take our jackets off. Do not reccomend.
Had great expectation for this place...extremely disappointed. Restaurant was not busy. Server was inattentive and rude. Multiple menu items on the already limited menu were 'not available'. Had to share menus among our group. Appetizers (two of the same ordered) were raw and inedible. Sent back. Waited 40 minutes for another one after having to remind server. We were told one of our mains was burned and they remade it but remade the incorrect dish. We were told we could either take that one or wait another half hour for a new 'correct' one be made. Will not be back. Washrooms had used paper towels overflowing and all over the floor. Beautiful space though.
Excellent pizza and appy's , service was no.1.
Phenomenal atmosphere, great service, pretty great food, and a cool building
Last night we had supper at the beautiful Stone Jug!! It was awesome. Such a beautiful building, the food was to die for...we had the steak???? And our server...Caroline...was so friendly, knowledgeable about the food, and made the experience that much better. Can't wait to come back again.????????
We were impressed by the extensive renovations to this gorgeous historical building and loved it's ambiance. However, in order to truly shine, careful attention needs to be paid to food quality and service. We waited a half hour for drinks and another hour for our food, which was lukewarm upon arrival. The Cod Au Gratin was disappointing, it did not remotely come close the traditional recipe our Rock friends know and love. Good drink selection, but fancy drinks could be better presented than in a stubby wine glass. The Turkey dinner burger was awesome tasting, but slippery/slidey to handle. Perhaps a pretzel bun would hold this delicious burger together more? We realize the restaurant is still new and there are bugs to work out, but it would be a real shame to see it fail because these easily-remedied points were ignored. We wish you all success for the future!
Beautiful restaurant inside and out. Restaurant and bathroom appeared clean. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. Menu didn't offer as much as I would've liked, especially for vegetarian but had appealing choices nonetheless-- except for the alcoholic beverage menu in my opinion.
Beautiful place! Great service and amazing ambience!
Great local watering hole. Good menu lots of selections. Many taps to choose from
Fabulous place for a wedding.
Great place great staff
Great place to eat!
Good food, Beautiful decor. Server could learn to smile and be friendly
Good food and friendly staff. Unreasonable wait times for orders.
Great old building, wonderful inside, pizza was awesome
Service was great.
The atmosphere is perfect for this peaceful town ,very much enjoyed our short stay. People are so friendly!
I ended up eating several times at the Stone Jug during my stay in Newfoundland. Every visit was a “five” rating. Unlike the other pubs and restaurants I ate at in Newfoundland, the Stone Jug offered fresh, from scratch, non-fried foods. All the meals I ordered were excellent. If I had to recommend only three things, it would be: 1) The seafood chowder 2) The fishcakes 3) The Shepard’s pie The woodwork, stonework, lighting and open kitchen creates an atmosphere like no other restaurant that I have dined in. The restaurant also has good entertainment in the evenings. They use local music performers. I would definitely eat at the stone jug again. Go see it for yourself!
Fantastic authentic atmosphere. With great food
very nice place, had pine apple drink, house lemonade, chicken mushroom pizza, hunter pizza and shepherd pie. highly recommend!!!definitely will come back!!~
Tonight was extremely disappointing. After seeing what looked like a great menu, we thought we would give the stone jug a try. But once seated we were met with a lengthy list of everything they didn't have. When it was time for the appetizers we chose four things they actually did have- sweet potato fries, muscles, shrimp and caesar salad. The sweet potato fries were under cooked, and had a mushy consistency. The muscles had a foul odour, which no fresh muscles should have. And when it was time for the shrimp, we were also treated with a mystery hair! The caesar salad was also a let down. To begin it was missing the sun dried tomatoes and had stale croutons. The dressing was essentially tasteless water. After some disappointing appetizers, my family and I hoped we would have a different experience with our entrees. We never. We ordered two pizzas- the sauce there was none. But that doesn't mean the pizza was dry. When you cut into the pizza, orange grease came pouring out. Gross. They obviously ran out of mozzarella, so substituted it with a bubble gum layer of pre-shredded tex mex. Crust was mediocre at best. We also had two kids meals. They were grilled cheese. How can someone mess up a grilled cheese? After one taste of the rubbery cheese, the little girls were done. We cannot comment on the dessert as we didn't order any, after the previous disasters, but weren't even offered the free dessert that came with the kids meals. The service at this restaurant was also terrible. The only time we saw our server was when she took/delivered orders, and brought the bill. Never even offered a drink refill. She should be ashamed to even call herself a server. Overall, save your money and go somewhere else. REPLYING TO OWNERS RESPONSE- Since you seem to think we weren't at the stone jug, I have attached some of the pictures of our meal. Over all your response was very disrespectful and lacked any and all professionalism.
Loved it!
Exceptional food in a beautiful old building. We brought our 3 month old and the waitress was very accommodating, giving us a quite table upstairs. Take a minute to walk around all 3 floors - it's impressive.
Stopped in for snacks and drinks. Everything was excellent, and they didn’t charge us for the spinach dip that took too long to come from the kitchen.
Nice atmosphere!
Great service
Slow service. Food not outstanding but not terrible. Beautiful rustic elegance in a historical building.
Atmosphere was awesome. Pizza was delicious. Service was great ????
Love visiting this place when I visit Carbonear, CBN, NL. Food, atmosphere, people and actual place are all spectacular ????????
Rustic!
This building is absolutely beautiful. It has all the potential to be a great place. The food was pretty good for pub food, but the service was absolutely terrible. The hostess greeted us with a snarky face, telling us that they were full, while 90% of the tables were open. Then just before we left she called us back to say they had room. After that our server had managed to forget that I ordered a class of wine , and was very slow in getting our order in. Don't think I will return.
(Translated) Excellent food and what about the atmosphere and the historic character! Just Wow! (Original) Bouffe excellente et que dire de l'ambiance et du cachet historique ! Juste Wow !
Amazing venue. Food was decent...mainly pub food with flair. Too bad they don't have more beer on tap.
Nice building, nice architecture, the food was mediocre at best, and the atmosphere is all they really have going for them.
Great food and service ????
Mmmm... two people had gluetan free and two people didn't...and i think the gluetan free was even better tasting ????
This restaurant is beautiful! We were amazed with all of the unique chandeliers. The design is so unique, it's not like any other restaurant around. The strawberry daiquiri and pomegranate martini were both delicious. The wings were so tasty and the wedges were cooked to perfection. The calamari was good also. I would definitely order the burger next time because my partner loved it.
Food was delicious and service was great. The shepherd's pie with lamb was awesome.
Food was ok at best. They have a beautiful building so I gave them 2 stars for that. We had three different pizzas and all three had no taste despite having a wide range of toppings. No local beer on tap and the beer/drink selection overall was weak. The service was very slow and not good at all. After ordering we hardly see our server despite having empty glasses on the table for 20 minutes. May try again but won't make a special trip for sure.
We made reservations at 715 and were able to be seated earlier but after that it went downhill. There was long waits for us to get an order of drinks and food in then we never saw our waitress or our food until just before 8. Now the food we got was generally amazing. The taters were overcooked and dry though you could tell they would of been delicious as well. The live music playing was very loud and we had a hard time hearing anyone from across the table. I dont think I could recommend this restaurant unless they did a better job staffing to prevent long wait times and rushed food.
Love their food, and their atmosphere. Always helpful staff.. I love their building!
Great food staff seemed overwhelmed and inefficient but on good spirits and friendly
Wonderful unique European atmosphere Great food and excellent prices and service. Very professional
The food was excellent and the building is stunning. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the service was quite slow and our server forgot 2 drinks and 1 dessert. The dessert was not able to be enjoyed at the same time as the other 6 people at the table ate theirs.
The best heritage building around. Great food and service.. Covid restrictions put a damper on supply so some menu options are not available..
First off, let me say that the building itself is absolutely gorgeous. It was very well done. It doesn't feel as though you are in Carbonear when you are there!!! Also, the regular life music they have is fabulous. That being said, something isn't right. I don't know if it's the owner, or if there is something else amiss. 1. Watching the kitchen staff is painful. There they are in a stunning kitchen with top of the line equipment and there is NO communication. 2. The wait staff are undertrained and seemingly unhappy, often rude. 3. The food is mediocre at best. Overall, I am unimpressed. For a place with so much potential, I was left feeling short changed. It's a nice place to have a drink with friends, but even then, don't go if money is an issue as everything is REALLY expensive.
Great atmosphere, cold beer and awesome food! Oh and service also top knotch!
The best meal I've had in a restaurant in years. Cooked to perfection. The staff truly reflects that Newfoundland friendliness that you here about.
Beautiful
I will start out by saying this is one of the most beautiful looking century restaurants anywhere! (that's the one star) But that's where it ends!! We ate here twice, summer of 2019 and fall 2020. I could get into a long story but to summarize; our two meals came out 15 minutes apart (both times we ate there), the pizza dough was undercooked (both times), the burger and fries were stone cold and we found the shift manager to be very unprofessional dealing with the situation. And then there is the bigger issue of their online menu vs the burger and pizza joint menu we were handed in fall of 2020. They do have a covid notice on line, but with 3 steaks, chicken and ribs on an extensive menu you would think a restaurant of this caliber would make sure they have more than burgers and pizza to serve!!! Bait and switch is what we call it, and contrary to consumer law!! I notice they are temporarily closed, hopefully this owner is done and someone who know how to run a restaurant properly takes it over. Won't be back under this ownership!!
Excellent food, service and decor!
This was the third occasion visiting this restaurant. The first two times were unsuccessful due to private functions taking place. The interior design is certainly well done, with a wonderful ambience. We were disappointed that the staff were not wearing gloves or masks during this pandemic period. All food establishments should be doing so. The young girl hostess and greeter was not pleasant or welcoming, but our server lady was fine. The curried chick pea soup was really good, and the Turkey club sandwich was good. We would rate the house coffee as average.
The food is great but the atmosphere is unmatched
Stopped in just for drinks. Great service and beautiful atmosphere. Looking forward to going back for dinner ????
Great good and drinks, menu is a little too short and has minimal options. Menu changes frequently.
The seafood chowder was absolutely delicious fir our appetizer then I had steak it was a bit dry to my liking but overall it was excellent ... we will be back again if we are ever in the area
Beautiful decore. Wonderful food.
A spontaneous stop while driving through Carbonear. Lovely atmosphere. Very friendly servers. Awsone pizza and stout chocolate cake. Will ceetainly visit again.
A lovely building! The woodwork throughout is amazing! We were a group of 4, The food is good however the service is sub par at best. We came on a Saturday night and expected a wait. The hostess was lovely and even gave us a phone call to tell us our table was ready. Upon seating we were a bit rushed to order, and handed off to 2 different servers. I assume the lady who took our order was our server. Someone different dropped off our drinks, and someone different again came to take our order, not a big deal. We were one of the last groups to seat so I understand a long wait for food. We ordered no apps, our bad. We waited about 45 mins for our meals arrive. In that time we finished all our drinks with no one returning to offer a refill. It would have been nice to hear about an expected wait unless this is their norm wait times for food. Upon delivery of food, (now a 4th different person) there was again no offer for refills, water or alcohol. Again the food was good, but no one to come and see how or if we were enjoying our meals. The lady who took our order swooped by and scooped up an empty plate from our table with no word as to weather it was good or an offer for a refill. We declined the offer for coffee tea or dessert and got the bill. Again, Great building to check out but not for service.
Great food and friendly staff. The burgers and the cod were delicious! Giving it a 4 due to the long wait time.
Great food, friendly staff
A gorgeous venue, with extremely disappointing service. Our group was rushed to order and then had an extended wait (45+ minutes) before receiving a food order. During that time there was no drink service or attention by the server. Food was delicious with good presentation.
Outstanding building from back in 1800th. Very good food and beer on Tap is goid as well. Staff is very accommodating in food selection and friendly.
Wonderful place great service
Great historic building, live music and food
Wonderful renovated building, lovely food bit service a bit slow & it wasn't even busy.
Amazing building!
Cool decor. Limited hours.
Beautiful decor but unfortunately slow service. The rueben sandwich was delicious. Great place to meet friends for a beer.
Best place to eat in carbonear. Staff is friendly, food is delicious, and one of the most beautiful restaurants in Newfoundland
It was just okay. The service was a little slow, the food was fine. A little over priced... But the building and decor is beautiful!!!
Never disappointed with the food, the atmosphere and the staff. One of our favorite places.
Cute coffee shop. Great coffee and bagel sandwiches. Pleasure chatting with the friendly owners. Highly recommended!
Historic attention detail. Great service. Moose burgers.
Great local entertainment but no support for setup
I would recommend this place very much. Best burger I EVER ate!
Amazing food that's not fried, a fine example of what a true restaurant should be like.
Fantastic! Excellent food. Reasonable prices. Traditional live music.
Had the chicken and rib combo. Chicken was undercooked to the point that it was bloody and 4 orders out of six had to be returned! It was our first visit and will be our last. Very unimpressed!
Great pub! Probably the best chowder I have ever had was there.
Well the food was good but the service was not. One person serving. The staff were not friendly. I waited at the bar for 20 minutes but was never approached by any one. I gave up. We waited 30 minutes for a table eventhough there were plenty of tables that were empty. Waited 15 minutes to order our food after we were seated and another 30 minutes to get the food. You can have the best food and building in the world but if your staff is not friendly and your service is slow you will always disappoint your guest
Great food. Beautiful restaurant.
Great place. Friendly service and excellent food
Excellent
Worth the wait! Food was perfect. Make a reservation to avoid long wait times.
This place is awesome, incredible building, great food, well worth a drive ..
Food is quite good, but the service is also quite slow.
Great atmosphere. Amazing building. Gteat food.
Excellent local and ambiance!
We ordered the "Formaggi" pizza, the spinach dip, and the chicken fingers. It was reasonably priced, however the kids meals were a bit pricey. The pizza was good though I thought the sauce lacked a bit of seasoning. The outdoor patio had ample wind coverage -even on a windy day- and the interior of the building is beautiful. The service was fast for the most part, and overall a nice experience.
Beautiful building and friendly service. The mussels were great, the pizza was good. Great ambience
Pizza
My first experience was great. Food was excellent, and the atmosphere was great. So good, I brought my whole family back for my birthday dinner. The dinner service was very slow and the staff seemed unprepared. Food was good, not as good as my first lunch experience.
Wonderful service and an amazing atmosphere. Definitely worth the drive from St John's. Will definitely be returning!
Great food, excellent service and awesome atmosphere.
The portion are big! Food and service are excellent
The steak was awesome!! The only thing their kitchen is not open from 4-5. We were there at 4:20 and had to wait till 5 to order then so did 10 other tables.
Absolutely awesome,great service,great food and fabulous atmosphere,cheers!????????????????
Went there for my sister's Wedding, the food and atmosphere were amazing, prime rib to die for....This place is Ryder and Yance Approved and recommend for sure.
Great food!
Amazing menu, live music. It's where Carbonear goes to play!
Amazing food and service!
