It's hands down the best bar in town, period. Years ago, it was thr best pool hall in town. As more live music flooded in, it became the best live music venue in town. Then, after the renovations and addition of pit bbq, it also became one of the best restaraunts in town. All in all, whether its a beer and a burger, a great concert, ppv sports events or a night of billiards, THIS IS THE SPOT. John K for mayor.

Got takeout (BBQ sampler) and it was all pretty good, I'll be back for sure. My side coleslaw was fine and the perogies were a generous portion I saved for lunch the next day. $7 for a bottle of Corona while I wait seems a bit steep. I really needed that sanitizing lime, though. Place was almost dead thanks to COVID-19.

Excellent Service! My wife and I arrived from out of province (heading home from essential work) and were looking for a meal that wasn't fast food. We ordered while sitting in their parking lot and the food was ready very quickly. I ordered a massive burrito with perogies - YUMM! My wife ordered a pulled pork grilled cheese - yum! Both were better than fast food but my wife said the pulled pork needed some sort of sauce to make it really good. My meal needed to have more sour cream for how many perogies there were. The bacon and onions on my meal were great and the food was hot. We sat in a parking lot to eat since we couldn't eat inside. Would have been a 5* review with those small changes... and we did eat everything! We would definitely stop again!

The best wings in the city! I'm constantly impressed with BTF as they smoke their wings. Not only does this produce a consistent wing every time, but it brings a flavor that blows deep-fried wings out of the fryer! My favorite spot for wings, hands down.

Good atmosphere, good food and good pricing. I had the brisket platter. Brisket could have been served a bit hotter, mine was more like on the warm side. The smashed potatoes and the perogies were Delicious. The "twisters" (jalapeno poppers) were fantastic, the bbq sauce was so tasty. Mac n cheese and the dirty rice were equally delicious. We did however have a 45 mins wait for our dinner, due to short staff in the kitchen but it's totally understandable with covid times.

Recently had take out beef dip here.... it was delicious. But that's not the point of my review. My point it that I just got WAY above and beyond service. Last time (6 months ago) I ordered here, I also wanted beef dip to go. There was a mistake and I got the wrong order. I only noticed when I got back to my shop and there really wasnt time to return and get it corrected. I'm not mad about this, mistakes do happen, and I get it and I accept it. So on this trip (6 MONTHS LATER) I order before I come just like last time. When I show up, the first thing out of my waitress's mouth is. "Hey, were you the one that the last time you ordered you ended up with the wrong lunch?" She comped my lunch (which I wasn't even remotly expecting) and said that it had been bothering her for a long time. Gurrrrrlllll. That is a DAME sharp memory! Thanks for making my day! You made me feel special and I appriciate it. It may or may not be 6 months before I'm back again, but I certainly will be. The food is great and the service is even better.

Fred's ribs are DECENT. Service was great. A couple lads near the bar got into it, one lad was trying to throw some slow motion over the top haymakers but didn't land any. Fight was broken up and diffused, nothing was injured except the two men's pride. Would have liked to see a better fight, but oh well.

I took off one star due to the decor being quite rough around the edges, but then again, that's probably precisely the type of look you'd expect at a local music focal point, so maybe I'm just being an amateur interior designer here.

Amazing local bar with a good team of staff. Their pulled pork is amazing but something about the sauce I cannot tolerate everytime I've tried it. Love their wings and the platter is one of me and my friends' favorites. Best place to come for pool. This place could use some renos or expanded as it does tend to get crowded. Otherwise, it is a fun place to hang out :)

I kept on hearing that Better than Fred's had some dang good BBq from fellow coworkers of mine. Well being from Texas I had to see what this place was all about. First off, great atmosphere. The locals are friendly and offer to buy drinks all the time. Second, the staff is very helpful and will help you if you don't know what you want to order or to drink. Now keep in mind the only thing I ordered was the BBQ. Third, the BBQ is ok, they lather their meat up with BBQ sauce before the serve it. To me that is a sign they hiding something, burnt or dry meat. Am not a fan of BBQ sauce but rather the quality of the meat. You can tell it's cooked over the open flame rather then smoked. Nothing compared to Texas BBQ but I have to give credit where credit is do, the pulled pork was damn good. I will be sure to order the pulled pork again. I will be sure to return the next time I am town. Nothing compares to a few cold ones with the locals while playing pool and watching the games that are on. Cheers!

Staff is pleasant. Service is excellent. Have not experienced any strange anomalies that defy the laws of physics within the building (I can't speak for the ladies room). I haven't spotted any vampires lurking amongst the crowd, but I swear I spotted a class 3 ghoul on the dance floor the other night. I conclude that it is a reasonably safe and fun establishment, despite my fear of ghoul and ghoul-related attacks.

I go to this bar quite often, they are always spot on with the food and drinks and if there are any problems they will fix it. My friend ordered the Mac and cheese wedges once and as the waitress was bringing them to our table someone grabbed one for the plate ( they ment this as a joke, but was still very uncalled for). Our waitress let us keep the rest of the wedges and got us a whole other order on top of that and they covered both orders on our bill. Great staff and a realizing bar to play some pool after work with the boys.

The server is a little bit awkward with us, I know she is tired and overwhelmed with her tables guest occupancy that's why I understand so I am rating the overall food quality only and not including the service. We will definitely be back for sure because we love your spinach dip and wings appetizer. We got off from our long day at work and we decided to come visit the "Better than Fred's" restaurant and yes, we didn't get disappointed. The taste of our food is way beyond expectation. Cheers for the chefs and owners who take a lot of pride of their menu and the business. Note: The server could've done better if she visited us and asks us if we wanted to order for more food or not because after she took our appetizer order and was served by the runner guy, she didn't visited us and asked us again not even once. Don't worry about it, we are not mad or anything. Just a frustration that we see her kept checking other tables and not even stop to check on us but that is totally understandable????

Until the live band started then it was LOUD. Pool tables are well maintained. Drinks are a wee bit pricier then expected but I haven't been out in a while. All around, I will go back again.

went on wing night ordered some wings, heard they were great. server came back and said wing night was cancelled. i vould order wings but for full price. then she didnt come back. eventually another server came to me and i told her about the wing let down, and she said yeah, theres an event across the street, the kitchen would never keep up.. ( i think, worst case scenario your dining room fills up, you should be ready on an event night anyway) and my server? oh yeah, she forgot about you then didnt want to come back. lol. first time i went and havent been back. not out of spite, but zero motivation to do so.

A great place for live music in Grand Prairie. The food is pretty good too. This pub / restaurant also has pool tables. It seems like it's mostly locals who hang out here. The stage for live music is fairly small, but for your average touring band that doesn't draw a big crowd it's all you need. The sound tech they had that night did a great job.

I've been to every bar, pub , and hole in the wall in Grande Prairie, and I can say with confidence that Better Than Fred's, is the best establishment in the city. I've never felt more welcome in a bar ever! Most places in town, like Shark Club for example, the staff is not welcoming or very rarely, and just make you feel alienated, but at Better than Fred's Grande Prairie, the staff are super welcoming and nice! Its a very family like astmosphere; also the owner is very hands on and a very nice guy! I would recommend this fine establishment to anyone who is looking for a humble, relaxing but also extremely f$&@ing awesome time! Also their Food is F$&@ING AMAZING! And the best prices in the city !!!

The servers were very polite and stopped by every so often to check up on me. As for the food, The beef brisket was a 10/10! The only thing I didn't enjoy was the boneless chicken wings. They were too soft. Slightly soggy. They offered to have them remade, which was very nice of them while also taking it off the bill (which I only noticed once I got my bill.) The skor cheesecake was great and presentation was phenomenal. The Vacation on Mars was ok. The ice cream was slightly bland but it was still good enough to be enjoyable. Overall, 5 stars.

Worst rib dinner of my life! They were brought out and the top few weren't too bad. But then they got worse. Dried out and tasteless. They were kept under a warmer or microwaved prior to serving! Awful tasting trash! When I complained they never even offered to reduce the bill any! For $35 you could get a decent rack of ribs somewhere else in this city! Don't waste your money on the ribs people!

Very disappointed!!! Waitress came in a hurry, I ordered my wings to start and then she left without taking my main coarse order. I then ohad to go up to order the main coarse which was the sampler. Wings came they were cold. Yes Smoky with a light splash of hot sauce. Very bland and tough and barely warm. Sampler came. Ribs chicken and pulled pork were all tough cold and dried out. Coleslaw had no flavor and beans were also dry. Took 1 bite of everything and quite eating. Waitress asked if I wanted it to go and I said no because it was very disappointing. She grabbed my food came back on 5 with it all packed up to go and my bill which was 42 dollars including 1 beer. Never even offered to compensate my bill. Defiantly won't go back.

Best bar in town! Food is fresh, hot and so good. Portions are always to big for me to finish. Service is top notch. This glorious plate is only $17.95!!! Jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon then smoked! Yummmm!!!!!

Food was excellent! I always order the platter to have some left overs the next day. They changed the food on the platter which I wasnt expecting but it was still delicious. I would also like to point out how clean everything was and that people were appropriately spaced apart. It's nice to see businesses taking covid seriously.

Tasty and well priced bbq style food with a standard drink menu. This restaurant brings in lots of quality live music acts. They sport 6 full size pool tables and several arcade machines. Staff is generally friendly and they run daily deals through the week.

This place is a must go for anyone living in, or visiting Grande Prairie. The food is amazing (and award winning) the service is great, and the bands are awesome. I first came here in 2008 and watched Marianas Trench perform with my now wife, and make a point of bringing everyone I can here to experience it. Top notch. P.S. Marianas trench should be a lot bigger than they are. Check them out if you're into pop music.

My friend and I usually eat here when I’m in town visiting because the food and atmosphere are great. This last time I came here in I ordered the Mushroom Mozzarella Burger and I can honestly say it was the best burger I’ve ever had. I legit almost wanted to cry after eating it.

Had a great experience here for a niche game tournament they hosted. Staff was all very friendly, we had good food, and the service was second to none. Our waitress Chanelle was one of the best I've ever had, major props to her and her customer experience. She was able remember our entire groups names only hearing them once, and was never more than an arms reach away.

MANY famous and not as famous entertainers and musicians have graced this establishment over the years. This a good social gathering place with a happy vibe. LOTS of EXTRA efforts in place in recent times to make the customers are comfortable and happy, given the new guidelines that are in place. They put in the effort to ensure that the impact is as minimal as possible for their customers. Great atmosphere, nice to play pool, beer was cold! I had a sampler with BBQ pulled pork, chicken leg, a couple ribs, side of beans and dirty rice. Group also shared a team platter with wings, natchos, perogies, etc. Portions were generous. All the "non smoked" food ranged from okay to tasty, but the flavor of the smoke on the meats was terrible, almost inedible. To me it tasted like burnt rubber. Some guys were actually not eating the wings! The pulled pork wasn't as strong but it was really dry. I've had BBQ in the southern states and this is not BBQ. I might go back for other food but definitely will not order anything smoked. Maybe it was just an off night.

Busy as heck so service was medium at best but the food and atmosphere was awesome. Lots of pool tables, friendly people. Was a bit loud but that didn't bother me....a busy establishment is going to get loud. If you want quiet, stay home.

When is this place not a good time? Never is the answer people. Always something going on and if not pool tables, and video games to entertain yourself while double screening watching the TV's showing all the sports. The staff are cool and super friendly. That Karl is practically a counsellor for when you need a person to talk too. John is always brilliant with bringing in talent for live shows so if your in town go check it out.
