I live in Manitoba and the sushi that we have had here at newfound sushi is very good and the staff are very nice if someone can find sushi this fresh and tast as good I would like to find out and the have a Throwdown on who is better and I think I know I'll be back for sure .

I had an excellent meal the other day with some friends. Sushi was all prepared in a timely manner with the usual friendly staff and atmosphere. I was especially impressed with the takoyaki balls, they're a fried octopus dish that had a delicious creamy center. I'd certainly recommend Newfound to anyone interested in seafood cuisine.

Hands down the best sushi place I've ever been to. Some of the freshest fish you will ever have the pleasure of tasting and the staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. Perhaps the best sushi I have eaten on the Rock. The food was fresh (superb rice), well presented, and great tasting. The atmosphere is also tasteful. The price is towards the upper end. Yet, you get what you pay for! The service was phenomenal - we had not reserved a table (it’s a popular spot!) and Nicole, Richelle, and Nathaniel were great at accommodating us at the bar. We did have to wait longer than anticipated for the food (hence the 4 stars and not 5). And, the sushi was worth the wait. Highly recommend!

I ate at this place before it was even known, when it first opened and i loved it , good food , a little pricey but it was worth it ... before they became what they are now . The workers are confused and cant even tell you if your allowed to take out , which then again if your advertising take out it should always be availible. And the prices are HORRIBLE. 17$ for a cup of rice a couple pieces of brocolli and 5 shrimp. Come off it . What was a weekly thing for me has become a never call again ..

Great place to visit! I recommend to EVERYONE that they visit there. A few dishes/drinks I recommend getting are; their sushi rolls. Of course being one of the old classics, they are definitely one of the bests. I recommend to lobster rolls. Their best drink, in my opinion, is their Japanese sodas! Whilst coming in favors of: Melon, Original/Bubble Gum, Grape, and Orange they always serve a real treat! Overall their staff are very skilled and I recommend you head on over there!

This place is an absolutely amazing sushi joint. Ordered the Newfound House roll, East meets west roll, and the ramen of the day (pork belly ramen). It’s the freshest sushi I’ve ever eaten; and I’ve eaten a LOT of sushi. All over North America (Los Angeles, Toronto, New York, Charlottetown). This is by far, hands-down, the freshest sushi I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. The flavours are rich and complex, and all the ingredients are fresh. The food takes a little longer than average, but everything is made fresh, to-order. So if you come here, put aside at least 90 minutes. Other than that, amazing experience. Added to our all-time favourites list.

We were turned away at the entrance - which was unfortunate as we had drove down from Gros Morne (an hour an a half drive) just to visit. Restaurant was supposedly fully booked, although it looked completely empty when I stepped inside. It was a real shame.

Our waiter was phenomenal! He was so passionate, warm, knowledgeable, and attentive! The view was exquisite as well! I loved watching the billowing clouds phantom up over the rolling hills bursting with fall leaves. All cozily wrapped around the calm bay. Even better was the food! Foodies rejoice! Nothing you can order here would be a bad choice! We had the locally harvested hedgehog karage mushrooms (lightly breaded/fried) which was WOW - delicious! How unique and special! I've never had hedgehog mushrooms, let alone locally-harvested ones! They were umami, meaty, crispy, and perfectly seasoned! My partner enjoyed the jellyfish 'seaweed' salad. I found it to be too chewey/tough, but then again, I'm not a huge fan of seaweed salad in the first place. My favorite was the chutoro, from the freshly caught bluefin tuna (the day prior). Talk about melt-in-your-mouth buttery! Absolute bliss! It came with a generous dollop of *real* wasabi, which is hard to come by, far more delicate and floral than the imitation. As someone who typically despises the imitation wasabi, I was surprisingly pleased with the real deal. Even if I did have to tread suspiciously at first ???? My partner's favorite was the spicy scallop roll. Thinly sliced, tender, crispy tempura on top, creamy spicy mayo and a sweetness to it. My second favorite was the coast roll with salmon and smoked arctic char. The artic char was overpowering, yet delicious. In the future, I would use it a bit more sparingly. It was rich with generous servings of both tender fish and creamy avocado.

I wouldn't expect sushi to exist on that side of the island but it does well for good reason. Usually my favorite spot in CB, but just tried to go there for lunch today and had a very unpleasant experience and had to walk out without ordering. First, we walked in to the main floor dining room, we were asked if we were dining in or taking out and informed diners were helped upstairs. After we found the upstairs completely packed except for few seats at the bar, we decided to take out and went back downstairs... To which we were told to go back upstairs to place the order because there were no servers downstairs. Back upstairs. There were two servers attempting to manage the packed bar and we had little attention actually focused on us. When we told them we wanted to place a takeout order, we were told that they would have to 'check with the chef if they do takeout' and both scrambled to call downstairs even after we said the chef had sent us up. No one ever gave us a menu to look at. Then when one server gave us enough of her attention to punch in an order, we told her we didn't even have a menu to which she said they didn't have takeout menu and didn't offer a regular menu nor explained what we could take out. Frustrated with the lack of service, we left without ordering. This is extremely disappointing since I am rarely in cornerbrook and even more rarely am able to convince my husband to go for sushi. Then when I did get to go, no one wanted to help us. :( they used to offer prepared takeout for lunches,not sure why this stopped.

I really hope this place gets better, I love sushi and I’m in the area but might have to drive to Nova Scotia to get my fix. Compared to other sushi restaurants I’ve had, this was quite expensive and the portions were very small, didn’t taste overly good either. It tasted like Edo Japan, which is like the cheep fast food of sushi, but was more expensive than some of the best sushi places in Victoria BC. the teriyaki stir fry udon tasted like water. The only thing that tasted good and was an appropriate portion and price was the miso soup. The $6 seaweed salad was way too small. I hate writing bad reviews but I hope they can take some constructive criticism. At the same time maybe they know that they’re ripping us off and they’re our only local option.

Love the both the up and downstairs eating areas even if they are very different....just depends on what atmosphere of dining you prefer. The owner is a great guy and very customer friendly. We're repeat customers and NL Sushi beats any sushi place on the island hands down. I'd recommend the place 100% of the time with a 100% score.

My friend and I came here with our expectations pretty low. We are huge sushi lovers and I will tell you, we were incredibly blown away! The sushi here was so fresh and very tasty. Combine that with some great local beer they had on tap, and we were set! If you love sushi and want to put this great restaurant to the test, you won’t be disappointed. Extra tip: ask what fish is brought in locally.

Delish & fresh seafood! I have eaten sushi in various parts of Ontario, USA and Iceland but Newfound Sushi in Corner Brook, NL is the BEST! I had the lobster roll, east meets west roll, and the wicked tuna roll. Me and my husband shared 3 rolls, and they were filling! But we were really hungry when we arrived. The lobster was fresh, as well as the salmon and blue fin tuna. They also have a nice variety of drinks and apps. Staff were super helpful and friendly. The restaurant doesnt look like much on the outside but inside is definitely got a woodsman chic vibe. The view upstairs is absolutely stunning - overlooking the ocean and town. Make a reservation to get a table, if not you can eat at the bar (which is also comfortable)

This is the second time I have been here and again, I am not too impressed. It took an hour to get our food after ordering it. The quality of sushi isn't bad but it is overpriced. I also found that the sushi rice is way too over-seasoned and the vinegar overpowered the sashimi. The waiters were very nice, but unfortunately, I will not be back.

Great food, good atmosphere, fast service and very personal. Only complaint I would have is the lack of space, the area is very tiny and parking is a bit of a Hassel. For anyone wondering the price is high because the quality reflects that.

Small location but very well appointed inside. As other reviewers stated the service was incredibly slow. Our reservation was for 7:15 and we never ended up eating until 8:20 - however the quality and presentation of the food were very good. The price is steep but I still recommend this place for the experience and taste.

Great Sushi! Being from Toronto, it was nice to have fresh fish straight outta the near by Ocean. I really, really wanted to leave a 5 star review. However, on this particular occasion, there were several service related mishaps. Nothing too crazy though. My friend who is from Corner Brook did let me know that the service is normally great and they were having an off day.

I enjoyed it however it was small and there were many groups of people turned away at dinnertime because of lack of seating. I understand they are expanding. Good thing because it is very popular. They did not have soy paper though so I could not get sushi as I don't like seaweed. The food took a long time to get to us but it was quite good. I would definitely go back and hope that next time there will be more room and a little quicker on the food. Worth going to for sure

INCREDIBLE SUSHI! When people said it was the best they’ve ever eaten I was skeptical - had sushi in many countries. They weren’t wrong. The fresh fish and flavours were next level. The it’s hard to get a reservation but it’s worth the wait.

Amazing service! We went there last Friday night, September 14th. It was very busy but we didn’t mind waiting a little longer for our food. The whole team made us feel welcomed and didn’t rush us out the door. Our server was exceptional and she went above and beyond typical customer service. It was our first time there and we didn’t know what to except. We were seated at the bar as there wasn’t any seating left and even that was great. We were able to switch to a table when one was available. The food was so delicious and fresh! Highly recommend!

It was my second time there. The upstairs dining area was really nice. The service was very good. I felt cared for by my hostess, she was attentive and listened to what we wanted. The food was very good, it was fresh and the atmosphere was enjoyable. We requested the music to be lowered and it was. No fuss. I would suggest that instead of rock N roll music, to create a unique ambiance, perhaps actually providing Japanese music or something ethnically similar. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Usually have a good experience but the last visit left a sour taste in our mouths. Wanted to bring my fiancé for a nice meal before I left the province so we decided to drive out to Corner Brook. We usually sit upstairs but was guided downstairs, the waitress that showed us our seat didn’t seem motivated to work. No greeting, menus, or drink orders. She was talking to someone else and handed us the menu while talking to them and continued to finish before coming over. Specials were told to us after we ordered. We ordered an appetizer, two rolls and one for takeout. The appetizer arrived quickly and we were waiting on the rolls. While waiting, the waitress kept looking at us and smiling awkwardly without coming to us. After an hour wait, I asked to see why we did not get our order yet. She went to the kitchen and came back after 5 minutes saying that it would be another 30-45 minute wait. I asked her why the long wait and she mentioned the upstairs guests have to be served first before we are. My fiancé and I decided to leave. About a two hour wait for two rolls is ridiculous and the interaction with the waitress that day makes us not want to go back. We would rather make the drive out to St. John’s and get better service.
