REVIEWS OF Fort Berens Estate Winery Ltd IN Barkerville

Fort Berens produces the best Riesling that I have ever tasted. I live in Vancouver and make up excuses to travel to Lillooet just to visit this winery. It's as good as or even better than any Okanogan winery.

Emilie Pelletier

The wines are really good and the view is amazing!

John van Bockxmeer

I had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon lunch with wine tasting at this outstanding local business, a highlight of my visit. The staff are very friendly and service is excellent. Wines were nice and dry and the reds really surprised me with their great layered flavours. I can recommend the Cabernet Franc and dry Riesling. The menu is short and I loved was the healthy, fresh sides and vegetables. The roast vegetables made a nice accompaniment to my burger. The view from the patio is next level stunning. The gift shop has some local art too.

great service, great location and the food was amazing.

Michael Rensing

An adventurous location in a region not (yet) known for its wine, but Ft. Berens has great wines and great food. We never miss a chance to stop if we're nearby.

Drove past the winery on our way to Squamish. Startled there was a winery at all in Lillooet and that the main building (the Bodega?) was so beautiful. Read a bunch of reviews and then was surprised to find a booth at the farmer's market in Squamish the next day. Bought the Meritage. Enjoying it now. Fresh, fruity, complex, encourages sipping, garnet colour, long finish. Really nice wine (and I'm pretty picky)

Holly

Very high quality and delicious food. Beautiful views and top notch wines. Couldn't ask for much more!

Upon our arrival we were greeted by smiling Sam and Thomas , taken to our table under the Tent, Complete with Fantastic View of the Mountains and Vineyard! We started with a bottle of Dry Riesling and Rose to accompany our Charcuterie Board Appetizer which was Delicious, Presentation was Gorgeous! The Lamb and Chicken Scallopini were Delightful! This was out first dinner out this year. We were so grateful for the Great Service provided by Sam and Thomas and the Fantastic Dinner!

Excellent service and great wine. Very reasonable prices especially if you join the wine club. I can't believe I'm going to get wine delivered to my door LOL☺Now thats style.

Loved the location and the view. We tried a few vines and took a try Riesling. The owner gave us also some good tips for cafés and campgrounds in the area.

The tasting room is gorgeous. The view is unparalleled. And to top it off they serve world-class level cuisine. I know what I'm talking about. I've gone broke in Manhattan and Toronto dining at the best restaurants.

This place is amazing. I had a wonderfull lunch and wine taste with my family. Everyone was so kind, helpfull, so warm and welcoming. I tottally recomend and I will go back for sure...

Disappointing stop. Probably the most unprofessional tasting we've ever experienced (and we've been to a lot) - the girl serving us didn't tell us anything except the varietal of each wine, barely made any conversation with us, and checked her phone multiple times while we tasted. The wines themselves were just ok. Had lunch at the restaurant. The server was friendly, but took a long time to take our orders after we'd been seated and also completely forgot our appetizer. The salad was nice, but my kebabs were raw in the centre, which was obviously something that had happened before because our server tried to explain that it was just the colouring from the spices. However, when the chef came out, she admitted that they weren't cooked through and had our server take the dish off our bill.

Mandy Watson

Breath taking views, amazing tasting room, inspiring staff.

Kurt Breure

Wine was very tasty, and also pretty cheap! I think the most expensive bottle was $25. Winery itself was very nice and the views are amazing. We looked at the lunch menu and it was very limited with no visible gluten free options.

Even if I never visited the winery directly, I have to make a statement ... ! Lillooet is the next big thing on the Canadian wine scene, but also a region that will soon be talked about around the globe. This is the second time that I collaborate with them & their wines are just a perfect balance between fun and intense ! J'adore.

Jacob Pallister

Wonderful service, beautiful patio overlooking the valley and mountains of Lillooeet. Moved our table closer to the fence to allow our dog to sit with us.

Alex Passini

I haven't tasted the wine yet, but I heard very good reviews. The winery was nice, looked ready for a wedding. Very well designed tasting room.

We had a very pleasant experience at this winery, and particularly loved the cabernet franc and pinor noir. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend to stop and taste. We rate this winery above the ones in Kelowna region! For Aussies the place to go. The liquor store in Whistler had the CF too.. so we restocked for last dinner with Salmon ????

Lillooet is a Absolute Gem and this Winery is placed right in the heart of it! The Staff were so friendly and I love the Red Gold and Rose wine I purchased and I also got to buy some Honey made local that they had in stock.

We came for dinner and had a beautiful meal paired with delicious wines, all in the midst of a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Friendly service paired with excellent food/wine/scenery! Definitely worth stopping in Lillooet for! We went back the next day for a tasting and were not disappointed. Some really lovely wines on offer, and friendly staff.

What a little gem in Lillooet. Beautiful setting, wonderful wine. We haven't tried the restaurant yet, but we plan to. Their reisling is wonderful. All in all, we stop in whenever we are visiting family. Highly recommended!

A lovely afternoon lunch at Fort Berens. Hugh, one of the owners, greeted us when we arrived and brought a bucket of water out for our dog who we were able to keep an eye on from the patio. Overall; accomodating staff, great food, and unforgettable scenery. We will be back soon!

Always the best! An amazing oasis of pleasure in the BC hinterland

We always have a great time here - wine is delicious, views are incredible, food is tasty and the staff are awesome. The tasting room has an amazing view of Lillooet and lots of great local products, and if you stop for a meal on the patio it's sure to be a memorable one with locally sourced food, the warm breeze travelling the Fraser canon and a perfect vista of the town, river and mountains as a backdrop.

Lee Taylor

Excellent menu, expertly executed on the patio! Not to be missed in lillooet

One of the better places to eat and drink wine. Everything is served on their patio with nice view of mountains and valleys. Food was really good.

Fabulous wines- locally grown and produced. Lovely variety of lunch items to consume out on the patio. A favorite place!

Jaida Jewell

Love how light and flavorful all the wine is ❤ nice and chatty staff! Only reason I gave 4 stars is because the staff was somewhat more concentrated on cleaning up after the tastings rather than focusing on doing the tastings! Also had a sign off the highway that said patio lunch open but was only open for reservations which were full! Other than that like I said lovely wine and staff also gorgeous views ???? best chardonnay I've ever tasted!!

Antonio Arreaga

Great idea to put a winery in this part of the province. Great view, friendly staff, and good wine. Did not get a chance to try their food, we were a little too late, but will return for sure. Brittney, do your research before you arrive to make sure you get there on time. If you are in the industry, you should know how annoying it is to have people arrive late and expect the same service. I guess some people like to complain and not accept any responsibility.

Hendrik Olthof

The staff managing the lunch is clearly not interested in walk in guests. We were confirmed a lunch table at walk in and waited for 20 minutes only to be postponed again for one hour. Food and Drinks may be of sufficient quality, service is clearly not.

Brittney

I bought my boyfriend and my friend yesterday to visit this winery which we drove two hours from whistler to visit. I have been here once before and enjoy my experience that time, however this time was a different story! I was very embarrassed on how one of your staff members treated us and that I had recommend this spot of us to visit. When we arrived to your winery we were greeted right away and asked if we were coming for food and a wine tasting which we said yes to both and even had looked at the menu and talked about what we wanted. The lady helped us with the tasting but took a while since she was the only one out front and seemed to be a little overwhelmed. Once the tasting was finished we said that we would each like a glass of wine while we eat and later we were going to purchase 4 bottles of wine. At that point we were told the kitchen closed at 4:00pm which was not stated when we said yes we wanted food or we would have eaten first (it was also 4:00pm on the dot). The women apologized to us and even went out of her way to ask the chef if she would make us something because it was miscommunication. The chef agreed and we were greatful for that. We were told that we had to order the 3 glasses of wine outside on the patio from the waitress out there. As soon as we even stepped foot on the patio the waitress outside said “the patio is closed for the night” I explained to her what happened and said the chef agreed to make us one dish. She stated “we were discussing that but no one had talked to me about it” she then looked down at her phone and continued to text but within 10 seconds said again “that would mean I would have to serve you! I’m going to go inside and talk to them”. At this point I had enough and told her “it’s ok you stay where you are and I will cancel the order myself” because clearly this women was busy and couldn’t be bothered. I went inside said thank you to the chef again for willing to make us food but we had to cancel because the women outside was one of the rudest waitress I have ever had to incounter. Like I said we work in the industry as well and I would never have said that to any customer! I was pretty shocked by the lack of respect and professionalism that I will not ever come back or recommend your winery to anyone and I believe retraining of staff should be looked at. You can take this either way but I thought the owners should know because this is not how you run a business but it is how you get rid of customers fast.

We had a wonderful tasting at Fort Berens today. The Covid precautions were followed making the experience safe. The reisling was light fresh and refreshing. The chardonnay was great and the meditate was clean, fresh taste. Well worth the stop.

Richard Steane

We stopped for lunch on the patio and were very impressed with the vegan options! The staff is very accommodating with allergies and dietary restrictions.

The location, wine, and food are marvellous, however, it is the staff that are truly exceptional. I have been to Fort Berens three times now and each time the staff have been friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. A special thank you to Tabitha for going above and beyond. Hope to visit again soon!

The only place I know of to go in Lillooet for some upscale foods and probably the most expensive. A small but decently scenic patio. All food is served outdoors, keep that in mind when you are thinking about what to wear. Wine selection I felt was a bit limited, but ample for the location.

This winery is a credit to the region and would stand out even in the Okanagan! Amazing views and fantastic wine.

Christine Norton

We had a great experience today here! We stopped on our way through the area and were kindly found a table even though the day was busy and there were a lot of reservations. Our meal was yummy and everyone we spoke to was friendly and cheerful. The tiramisu was stand-out lovely!

Cassandra Gray

Gorgeous panoramic views of the mountains in their classy tasting room. Stunning wine selection and personable staff. Definitely worth the visit !

I would like to thank the staff at Fort Berens, in particular Jody who went out of her way to arrange a 25th anniversary gift for my son and daughter in law. Her package of wine delivery arrived with out a hitch, delivered to them in Lillooet. They were very appreciative! Ron Powell, White Rock BC.
