The spaghetti is outstanding as well as the desert!! Definitely one of the top recommended Italian cuisines in Banff

Paul Check

A beautiful Italian restaurant! The seafood linguine is amazing (and they'll split the dish in two for sharing for about $5 more + extra noodles), and the potato rosemary bread is huge and perfectly baked. Only recommendation for improvement is a better wine list (although the Kettle Valley Chardonnay and Pinot Noir certainly work well). Must go back!

Way too much ground sausage in the rigatoni. Hardly any rigatoni noodles. Very Disappointing. Food was okay. Patrino's in Canmore was better. Not worth the 30-35 CAD charge. Server did not tell me that the sausage was grounded. I only prefer eating sliced sausage links in my pasta! I only ate here because the other restaurants in the hotel did not have fish and chips.

No. Just no. My family and I ate here this evening. We ordered: Mushroom risotto, seafood linguine, gnudi, a side of polenta, calamari, and finally chicken strips. Our son, who is a truffle and mushroom fanatic, ordered the mushroom risotto and a side of the truffle polenta. He took a few bites of the risotto and had to stop eating it. He was so hungry that he choked down half of the gross polenta. Our daughter ordered the seafood linguine. It was so overwhelmingly pungent that she ate only a tiny portion of her food. My husband and I split the gnudi and left the veggies to the side. The calamari was very tasty and was perfectly paired with mama-lil’s pickled peppers. This was the best thing that we ate. It was served with a gorgeous marinara sauce. YUM. The only thing that could improve this appetizer is a slice of lemon and garlic aioli. But, it’s an Italian restaurant so the marinara is fitting. Honestly, if this was all that we ordered, I would have given the restaurant a 4.5 star review. However, every single veggie and mushroom tasted exactly like plastic. They might have been freezer burned ???? It was very strange and utterly disappointing. The inconsistency of the vegetable quality and flavor ruined each dish that had veggies or mushrooms. The two stars were earned by the calamari and the sophisticated gnudi. Each piece of gnudi was the epitome of a perfect morsel. However the dish was paired with squash that had the same plastic taste all the way through. My husband and I tried eating the risotto (so that it wouldn’t be thrown away) and we simply couldn’t stomach it. The plastic flavor coupled with the instant smoke was gag-worthy. Our son ended up eating chicken strips (imagine an eye roll here). We paid 207 Canadian dollars for this meal. I cannot recommend Costello’s and warn people to stay away from this place. Other than this meal, we are enjoying staying at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. I’ve never felt more cared for…. And I’ve stayed at some of the finest hotels from around the world.

Amazing service. Food taste and quality was similar to fast food Italian.

Ken Fry

Lobster ravioli was great, spaghetti too. Generous olive bread to start

We topped off our anniversary celebrations with dinner Italian style this Friday. Sharing everything from the caprese salad a tomato mozzarella salad to spaghetti and meatballs, sea bass and finishing with a vanilla gelato for desert. The waitress was over the top warm and friendly. A charming ambience in a small intimate setting - like dining in the round.

I have to admit that I don't understand the appeal of Castello. We went there for a glass of wine and some appetizers which seemed largely to annoy the staff. Sorry, I guess? Extremely overpriced overall, but generally good quality. We had some arancini and antipasti which were quite delicious, but ultimately made up of ingredients you can source just here in Canmore for a hilariously small fraction of the total cost. I won't say it wasn't delicious, including some beautifully pickled olives and fresh breads, but it was simply too expensive. This is the problem with most Italian food. It is inherently inexpensive to make. This has not stopped restaurants for attempting to elevate it, and usually failing to do so while staying coherent to their demanded pricing. Castello does this to extremes. For those that place a 5 star review on this place, I do recommend you branch out to other Italian restaurants. Take the drive to Calgary and visit Bonterra (for a more contemporary experience) or Buon Giorno (for a more classic experience) if you're after some quality Italian food at much more reasonable pricing.

Classic, beautiful restuarant. I've been coming to Castello's for special occasions for over ten years and have never been let down. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for excellent food in a cozy, beautiful setting.

Was pretty average. The $35 mushroom risotto was quite good but I have had much better for much less. $17 cocktail and a $5 cup of coffee. Dessert was nice. All in all, inflated prices with average food.

Jairo Portela

One of the best Italian meals I have had, I wanted to jump into the kitchen and hug the chef, the lobster ravioli, the chicken marsala and the salad totally got the spot, I would come back anytime.

Jason Shlansky

Amazing Italian food. Great ambiance. Paula was our waitress she is amazing. Went above and beyond to make our experience perfect. Accommodated our picky dietary restrictions willingly. Highly recommended.

Lovely red wine with dinner, Malbec from Argentina. Beet salad and seafood pasta. Super delicious food!

Fantastic food, great service. This was my second time here and we were not disappointed. Plan to return.

The pasta here was way over priced for very poorly made food, the spaghetti had hardly any sauce and very tasteless to say the least. I will never eat here again. The apple pie dessert tasted like fried fish oil. Highly recommend not to waste your money at this restaurant.

This place is absolutely amazing! I wanted to ask my girlfriend to marry me there because we had a really memorable date four years ago. I wanted to recreate the meal. The restaurant arranged flowers for us. The new chef actually tracked down the old recipe and recreated the whole meal for us. It was one of the best meals I have ever had. Thank you.

Food was delicious, the place is beautiful and service was good. The Gnudi was cooked perfectly and the beef carpaccio was flavorful.

The roasted garlic and break is a killer opener. Small, quaint location, but incredible food. Pricey, but worth it.

Excellent food, good wine and friendly service. Atmosphere is a bit nineties- cold light and a lot of white. We enjoyed crispy calamary and the linguine with seafood . - The espresso was unfortunately very light and a bit cold.

Curtis Wynn

We had an outstanding experience. The food was excellent and the service was better. We ate in the lounge and had great experience.

The food here is top notch. It is pricey but the quality makes the price well worth while. The veal parmigiana is well cooked, tender, and large. The accompanying pasta has a nice bite of heat. When I stay at the Fairmont, I will eat here again.

T M

Food was fine. They charge for water. Waiter was not happy we didn't order wine or dessert.

Thomas Malooly

Highly recommend the mussels and beet salad to start your meal. Order extra garlic bread to soak up all of the broth in the bottom of the pot of mussels. We all ordered the special, Arctic Char on a bed of risotto and special sauce. It was fantastic. The service was over the top and the ambience was candlelight, low music, and a den-like quality. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The pizza was terrible like cardboard. The lasagna had a lemon flavor...who puts lemon in this dish? The wine list was nice and the service was good. My wife like the balsamic dressed salad and I thought there was too much but she liked it. Would recommend since very expensive. Better places in hotel like 1880 which was great!

Excellent food, fantastic staff, great atmosphere! One of our favorite places to eat when we are staying at the Castle. The view is wonderful from any of the window side tables. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They make you feel like you are the most important person in the room!

Tom Levesque

Extremely overpriced for mediocre food. Staff were friendly and tried their best, but the product itself didn’t live up to expectations.

Zain Daredia

Wow really amazing place, all of our food was amazing, best chicken Parmesan Iv had in a long time. To end it all off you must try the tiramisu and the speciality alcoholic coffee. ????????

Food was ok. The restaurant was beautiful. The service was amazing

Beautiful place. Meal was spectacular Thank you

Had dinner reservations for 6:30, were greeted and seated promptly. Paula was our server and we were treated like royalty. The wine, food and service were excellent . Really enjoyed the evening!

showed up a little early but table was immediately ready ... the food was great - had the halibut and wife had the pizza .. pizza portion was big enough to share with someone and halibut dish was perfect in portion and taste .. prices were reasonable, prob a little elevated given the location of the restaurant within the fairmont banff hotel ... would recommend to anyone and would consider visiting again!

I have to say I was disappointed with the meal. I had the linguini with clams. Chianti's has a better rendition and they charge $14.99 and $9.99 on Tuesdays, not $37 like Castello's charges. They don't serve bread with their meals either, however they do offer bread with garlic and oil as an appetizer which is good but I would expect at a high end, higher priced restaurant they would provide basic bread with butter. The service was good and the ambiance was not bad but my wife's spaghetti was just ok as well. Definitely didn't feel it was worth the money.

The most gluten free items I have ever seen anywhere! Instead of being told what I could eat, I was told of a few items I could not eat. This was a great experience.

Great ambiance. Fantastic food. We will be back!

We came here on a weeknight evening. Place was clean, service was quick and there was a lovely tree in the middle with soft music playing. Since there soft music and the tables were very close together, we felt like we couldn't talk above a whisper without people hearing our whole conversation- this made the experience less comfortable. I got the seafood linguine which was tasty, but not worth $50. My husband got the the veal parm which he really enjoyed. Overall it was an enjoyable meal, but probably wont go again.

Cosmo L

Would definitely recommend dressing nice here, clean no ripped jeans and a nice shirt would be acceptable, clean tables, great food, AMAZING service, would love to again

Dylan Smith

The foor at Castello is pretty good, the Caprese Salad was fresh and flavorful, the veal parmesan I would say was okay it was not standout and definitely not up to the $50 price tag for it, the leak risotto was also quite good although runny. The atmosphere is small and homey which was nice, it had a green house type vibe. I do enjoy this restaurant, it is very good however I do think it's pricing demands more fine dining fare.

Tried Costello's on a Thursday night after it was recommended by a friend. We were not disappointed. I described my food sensitivities to our server and he told us he would talk to the kitchen about which menu items were available. It wasn't 5 minutes later that Chef Gale came to our table and walked me through the menu, suggesting modifications to suit my dietary needs. Ended up having a fantastic bone-in veal parmigiana. Great food, great service.

Location and service amazing. The food was superb. The servings are quite big though. I knew this from the start and opted to share family style instead with my mother. We ordered 2 appetizers, a main dish and dessert. That didnt seem a lot for two but the servings were really big. We didnt finish 1 appetizer and had to take it in a to go box. Paula was our server and she was great - very knowledgeable about the food, and very attentive.

Service very good but some of the food ( not all ) was just ok

Juan Tagliaferro

Great food, great atmosphere, a bit pricy but given the quality, service and location it is worth every penny!

Service was amazing as you would expect in a Fairmont hotel Food was quite salty for my wife and my taste. I think for the money there are much better places to go. Wine menu was really good with broad selections.

We eat here last night and servers were lovely; however, the food was very subpar for the price. Italian food isn’t hard to cook and it should have tasted better for 50 dollars a plate. Very disappointed.
