A passionate wine maker Rick Barr, using no sulfites, and in his tours explains why sulfites are important to some wine makers. He does explain what can be dangerous amounts of sulfites for some winemakers. Locally grown raspberries, rhubarb, and cherries are used to make the wines. No pesticides or herbicides used, meaning what I feel is a quality wine. They are nice to drink, not to sweet for my palette, and quite enjoyable. Definitely support this wine maker for his passion, and his care as a farmer and winemaker. He is always experimenting with different fruit, and honey trying to find the right combinations.

Late review, but want to make sure everyone knows this place is worth a visit or two! Had a tour with tickets purchased through Groupon as a last minute outing - so glad we did. Not only is the tour very informative and enjoyable, the farm in general is a nice place to visit. The wine was all very delicious and it will be hard not to leave with at least a bottle! We will gladly be back when it warms up.

What an amazing little place! It’s just minutes from Edmonton! We found out about this winery through Groupon. Four of us went there and we loved it. The have “The Other Red”, the “Barb” and the “Rhuby”. Great wines made from either rhubarb, raspberries and sour cherries, or a combination of! If you’re looking for something new to check out in Ed. I highly recommend this winery!

Great wine! Rick and Amy are the best!

My experience was tremendous! I now have a greater knowledge of not only how wine is produced in large volumes, but the struggles that can literally"crop" up in harvesting the product needed. This unique and highest quality of organic wines were enjoyed through samples and i purchased Christmas gifts at the gracious reduced cost from retail. Thank you and continued success Barr Winery! ????

Had a tasting at Barr Estate Winery today and we very much enjoyed it! Rick was great and the wines were delicious! Wasn't sure what to expect with fruit wine, but these are so good! Had to leave with a bottle of each. Definitely worth a visit!!

We had a great experience here. I purchased a winery tour from Groupon, they do tours even through the winter. Winter tours involve a complete explanation of the wine making process from picking the fruit to bottling the wine. Each step and the tools involved are explained along the way. There is a very organic flow of how the presentation comes together, like you're being sped through the entire process, which takes months. The winter tour also goes into depth over the science behind how the wine comes together, the choices they made as a "cottage winery" and his they came to produce such a nice product. They will only produce 4 wines in as many bottles as the harvested fruit will make, they have to use whatever they can grow on their land and they keep all of their ingredients and processes as simple as possible to retain the flavor of the fruit in their wines. Seems simple but it's very cleverly thought out in its own complicated way. I'd any part of their process changed they wouldn't be able to make the wines they make, it's that simple. "The Barb" is a rhubarb red wine. Very light in body and flavorful. The colour resembles a rosé, it has a light finish with the slight bitterness of rhubarb on the tongue. That was our first sample. "The Ruby" is a rhubarb strawberry red that feels very substantial. Strawberry smells fill the room when you're holding a glass and there's a crisp bite to this wine with a sweet strawberry finish. It leaves you wanting another sip, making this wine an insidious guest at your next party that wants to stay and cause trouble ;). This was my favorite. "The Other Red" is made with raspberry. I'm not a huge fan of sour tastes, this one was a bit tart, has strong body and lots of interesting flavours. After talking with Rick, the idea of adding a wine in oak barrels, or even better in of oak whiskey barrels, would transform this wine (an idea they are toying with) but it was a bit too sour for me. "The Jewel" is a soon-to-be-released fortified wine coming out in May 2018 that has me very excited. I want able to taste that one yet because it's still in production. You are able to buy directly from Barr Estate, just call or text if you want one or two bottles and they'll accommodate you. There have been some events held on their grounds, which would make for a very interesting reception venue, unlimited boutique wines made 100 feet away? Heck yeah. Go for the Groupon, get the tour. Warm weather tours involve seeing the orchards, sheep, Alpaca, the dogs and the beautiful rustic farm. Cherry blossoms come out for a week, book your tour then and you'll get an unforgettable stroll through all the cherry trees with white fragrant flowers... Seriously, they run groupons all year long for the tours, winter groups are usually under 5 or 6 people, summer tours are 20+.

We saw a sign on highway 14 that said "Turn left for Barr Estate Winery." So, we did. It's not polished, but rather genuinely rustic and quaint. The small tasting room is also the fermenting and bottling room. "The Barb" rhubarb is a sweet and tart wine that exposes the real flavour of the fruit. You'd better love raspberries to try "The Other Red," and the Ruby fortified sour cherry wine belongs on my ice cream. And if you drizzle some over your ice cream, then it also becomes my ice cream. Barr winery is a lovely afternoon out with family or friends, and just minutes from the city.

No social distancing measure in place and no sanitizing stations. They had the air conditioning set at 16 degrees on a cloudy day. It was so cold you couldn't concentrate on their presentation, all you could think is how cold you were. Did not enjoy one minute of this.

We enjoyed our wine tour with Rick. Rick was very friendly, informative and interesting to listen to. It was neat to hear how their business came about and how it’s grown to what it’s become today. I can finally say I have tried their rhubarb wine that I’ve heard such good things about! All wines we tasted on the tour were amazing! I’ll be sure to come back most likely to buy a few more bottles of wine!!

The wine is great and unique tasting. Definitely a good pick for a quick tour of a small wine making operation. If you ever want to get a good glimpse at what it takes to make wine small scale this is the place to do it. Try the Groupon!

My husband & I visited this summer. Was a fun date, just finished the last bottle of sour cherry that we bought!

It was a great experience to learn about a wine making process and sample a couple of Rick's wines. Definitely worth visiting. Quite an unusual location for a winery.
