From a student's perspective, NorthStar Academy is an absolutely phenomenal school. I felt incredibly privileged to do NorthStar for my grade 11 & 12 high school years after having a bad grade 10 experience at a Christian school in Red Deer, and I SO wish that I had discovered NorthStar sooner. In my 2.5 years with them, I never had a single issue with any of their staff. They were knowledgeable, professional, understanding, so accommodating, and consistently pleasant to interact with. I noticed very quickly that they take both their faith and their jobs seriously, and I was so blessed by the result of that. While I struggled with academics, many of their high school teachers went out of their way to make sure that I had every opportunity to succeed, and I graduated from NorthStar in 2017. NorthStar has a fantastic receptionist, and incredible high school teachers. In addition to great staff, they provide the opportunity for students to get to know their online classmates, which I loved. I for sure recommenced trying Northstar Academy!!

I am very disappointed with North Star. After tons of research I was very deliberate in selecting this school for my daughter. I VOLUNTARILY disclosed her learning disability, not because I was asking or demanding special treatment - I simply wanted to be transparent and proactive in our communication. Because my daughter wanted to pursue the academic high school stream - her acceptance to the school was rescinded on account of her not wanting to take the modified stream and additional subjective assumptions and judgments made by the principal. I made it crystal clear to the principal that we would engage in private tutoring if necessary. The principal's rejection email was curt and a literal slap in the face and the curt phone conversation to follow was the icing on the cake. This school discriminates based on disability and the principal's lack of empathy and professionalism is astounding. I do NOT recommend this school. Absolutely shameful as a so called CHRISTIAN school.

There are some wonderful supportive teachers here and my oldest daughter experienced a beautiful grad ceremony with Northstar. Having just switched to a new board, I am discovering the support and accountability that I feel Northstar lacked.

Been doing the PBR program for 5 years and have had zero issues. They are supportive and kind.

A school like all others, too busy to teach or grade because they are more interested in shoving ilps down the families' throats. They advertise asynchronous, but that is a complete lie as the teachers refuse to grade the students who work ahead. To top it off, if you don't work ahead it is impossible to attend any of the field trips/learning clusters. So basically you may as well homeschool as your going to end up doing all the grading anyway if you want your child to advance.
