I will probably go here regularly after my recent experience. Good service, very knowledgeable.

This is the best vet hospital I've ever found. The people are all just genuinely kind. They clearly care deeply about my pets, but they also spend all the time it takes to explain and discuss treatments with me. Whenever I walk my dog by the vet she tied to pull me inside. She knows what's up.

Told they would repair my dog who was bleeding out, then they told me they were closing soon and didn't have enough time and I had to go elsewhere. Now I get why there are mixed reviews. My dog was injured while I was at High Park and bleeding profusely. Rushed him to Bloor West Village Animal Hospital since it was the closest place. I was presented with 2 options, bandage the wound and I can take him elsewhere for the rest would cost almost $200, or they would repair him right away and it would cost around $700. I asked to repair him right away, so they get everything prepared, put a catheter in him and then they tell me they can't repair him because they were closing and didn't have time...this was all in a span of 15min. So I had to pay to bandage him up and take him elsewhere and pay more again. I was told there was "miscommunication". If they knew they didn't have time to do the procedure they could have said so and I would have saved time and money considering the position my dog was in. I felt taken advantage of given the situation. $200 for bandaging and a catheter that they never used, even though I requested to repair him. Although I must say kudos to the nurses for being quick to attend to my dog who came in bleeding out, they were awesome, very caring and attentive to the situation. Even when I called to discuss the situation in the end they asked for a status on my dog. I can't thank them enough. But the situation in the end was not handled properly. Don't say you can do something and then go back on it due to timing in a dire situation where a dog is bleeding out from 4 cut arteries. Would have been faster to take him elsewhere? Well I clearly should have done that before I was mislead. Ethically messed up.

My large American bulldog/dogo cross, Bronson, was cared for by Chris and the team for almost 10 years. The team are honest and transparent, and always open to talking through options/a treatment plan based on the dog’s needs but also my comfort level and preference. Bronson was always excited to go to the vet’s, which is a testament to how wonderful everyone treated him. When the day came that Bronson needed to move on from this life, Chris and the team guided me through the process with such care. The staff created a safe and comfy place for B, took photos with him and supported me through the experience, even sending a small condolence bouquet the next day which was so thoughtful. They all truly loved my boy. I was so thankful that even with the pandemic safety measures I was able to be right by his side as he passed on. I will be forever grateful for the amazing care Bronson was provided here.

Wallace, our cat, has been a patient for over four years now. Every time he has a check up or a treatment, the professionals of Bloor West Animal Hospital treat him with kindness and affection. From front desk to doctors we have received the highest quality of service one can expect; every question has been answered honestly and in detail, always ensuring the well-being of our Wallace. Last week, Wallace had his annual wellness exam: my husband and I had to stay outside to comply with provincial guidelines against COVID-19, it sounded so difficult at first, but we were confident Wallace was going to be okay. Dr. O'Toole called us over the phone twice to make sure we understood everything and discuss Wallace's weight. As a family, we are enormously grateful to the entire team of professionals for taking care of our Wallace. Thank you guys!

I was very disappointed with my experience here. Although not a customer, I approach the clinic for a Sub-Q fluid bag. A pretty benign request. But because I wasn't a regular customer, and most likely because I hadn't paid them any money before ( I was willing to pay for the bag of course!) they turned me down even though I stated I needed it badly for my sick cat. I was in an awkward spot as I had been away a lot in this was the only that I was able to get to during opening hours. Very disappointed that they wouldn't help out a sick animal. I'm having a hard time understanding what me being a customer would have to do with me being prepared to purchase something for a sick animal that wasn't even medication. I'm so upset that they acted in such an uncaring way. I get caught in this circumstance due to my job from time to time, and I find most vets are more than willing to help out, so this stands out to me as a very disappointing experience.

We take our difficult senior cat here (difficult in that she's fiesty and grumpy with the vet) and had no problems! Our other pets have had good visits too. I would definitely recommend this vet - quick, thorough checkups, thoughtful suggestions, and useful stuff onsite (like glucosamine treats for our cat with a bit of joint pain.

good place to bring your pets

This is the worst place every to bring your animal. Dr O'Toole killed my dog. Please dont ever bring your animal here. Our french bulldog (1 year old) swallowed a plastic part of a toy and was throwing up for so we brought him in . Right away the vet took exrays and was very uncertain if there was something in there , every response to any of my questions or concerns, his answer was "i dont know", he suggested we do surgery on him which said we have to make a decision in 5 mins because he has appointments. We were put on the spot and decided that we want to go through with it. we left that day feeling positive that he would be ok, a couple of hours later he called me sounding very positive that the surgery went well and he only had to make a tiny incision to get the piece out and we can take him home that day. First of all we should not have been able to take him home, he should have stayed there at least over night or in a hospital, our pup was so weak before the surgery that it wasn't a smart idea to bring him home. we brought him home and after his anesthesia started wearing of he was vomiting over and over again. I called the very next morning and told the receptionist that it was an emergency, and she simply said that he was in a n appointment. They are so inconsiderate and clueless. he called back and was so defensive and arrogant and told me to shove the antibiotic down his throat ,to bring him in when he is done with his appointment. At that time my pup was already fading fast ...he was stiff and ice cold, we rushed to bring him only to wait 20 mins because again he was in an appointment. The receptionist saw that i was crying and our dog looked terrible and she simply said but a blanket over him hes cold. i have never been treated this way in my life. finally they took him and still took him to weigh him, at that point my pup wasnt even moving. How stupid are you, he had to be hooked up to something asap, he was in shock and it seemed like his organs were failing. Then the vet calls us in and basically says he has to run more test because "he doesn't know" why this i s happening, hes so arrogant in the way he talks and completely heartless. Everything i asked him he was uncertain. well about 30 mins later he called and told me that my dog had passed, his response was i dont know why. My boyfriend was so pissed off that he called him and began demanding answers, but his responses were arrogant and he had no anwers!!! Why did our one year old dog die after a simple procedure. ITs not normal for this to happen, its absurd. Our dog could have been saved and he was a complete uncompassionate bastard, please i advise not to go here, as a vet he is completely clueless and it seems like all he cares about is taking your money. Beware for the sake of your pets.

Giving this place 2 stars only because they are very clean and organized. Dr O'toole is a prick, that's why you see new assistants all the time. Do not work for this man, he will bring you down no matter how thick your skin is. Truly have never worked for somone so hostile and cruel. I was going to elaborate but don't care enough to.

I’ve been bringing my dog to Dr. O'Toole for almost 2.5 years. My last visit to Bloor West Animal Hospital was very unpleasant for me and my dog. Dr. O'Toole was not friendly with my dog. My dog was nervous and scared and Dr. O'Toole was not gentle or welcoming. His vet tech was the only professional there trying to make my dog comfortable while Dr. O'Toole talked down to his employee and treated her rather terribly. It was very uncomfortable. My dog has never been aggressive or angry, but during this visit he was. Dr. O'Toole did not approach my dog in a friendly manner, instead he just went straight in to take my dogs temperature. The atmosphere was negative and aggressive and my dog reacted to this. Dr. O'Toole talked at me aggressively, did not explain things very well and pawned everything else to his vet tech. Dr. O'Toole’s solution was to prescribe alprazolam (basically Xanax) so next time HIS job would be easier. I have since spoken with 3 other vets regarding my visit and they agree that Dr. O'Toole’s 1. Handling of my dog and 2. Solution to the situation was unprofessional and upsetting. (I will note, every time I come to see Dr. O'Toole I feel that my visits are rushed and he has somewhere more important to be.) As I’m waiting to pay for the horrible experience my dog and I just had, Dr. O'Toole brought me back to the exam room to re-explain because he could see I was confused. It was at this point where he openly insulted his vet tech for not doing what he ordered of her, to me. It was very unprofessional and made me extremely uncomfortable. Thank goodness I am moving from this area and have found a much nicer and professional vet. I will not go back to Bloor West Animal Hospital. I’m not one to write negative reviews, or any reviews for that matter… but I felt that this information was worth sharing to anyone near high park looking for a reputable vet. I would recommend avoiding Dr. O'Toole.

My cat is now scared of people. Never before was he so afraid of my friends, but after our visit to this vet clinic I noticed a change in his behaviour. Whenever someone comes to visit he runs away and hides which only makes me think that he wasn’t treaded with kindness during his vet visit. Of course this is only an assumption as I wasn’t able to be inside during an appointment due to covid but there wouldn’t be any other factors that could possibly affect my cat to be so scared of people like that.

I feel the quality of care here is very good. I've been to some other vets in the neighbourhood.staff if very willing to help and provide information to make decisions. Like a quote for my cats teeth cleaning. They also make regular follow up calls after Vax or procedures. I can easily get on the phone with dr o Toole who will explain things clearly and lets me asks questions.

Brought my elder cat in there and had a chance to have him examined by a young female vet (Serena is her name if I remember well), who was pretty friendly, but seemed to have a financial agenda imposed by the clinic. The have so called "protocols" of tests for different groups of animals, that might mean that some of the tests will be unnecessary. The first visit cost me over 500$ in tests. They didn't even suggest I try to take urine sample at home and insisted on doing in in clinic with a catheter. Fortunately, having done it in the past, I knew it was very easy to do it myself. When I left the clinic with such a "tiny" bill, they called me many times trying to persuade to have other tests done. I told them I was a student and had no more money (that was true) and that I was very unhappy with their attitude and considered to go to another clinic, they then stopped harassing me with more tests. Not being able to reach me on the phone or leave me a voice message, Serena was very kind to write me a lengthy email with explanation of tests results and recommendations. She also suggested I come for a free demonstration of administering physiological fluid bag to my dehydrated cat. The technicians and receptionists in the clinic are very kind and try to do their best. Especially the older technician, a woman in her 40s who seems to have an excellent rapport with the animals and the pet owners. However, I will not bring my pet there any more, because I didn't like their financial politic, the pressure that they make on the clients. If need arises, I'll check out another clinic a little farther in Etobicoke recommended by another vet.

I wish I had read the reviews before trusting Dr. O'Toole with my pet. I am not the kind of person who like to write bad reviews but I hate when people take advantage of a desperate person. Today he showed me more than ever that he absolutely don't care about my pet, just the money that owners can bring to his business. Everytime I bring my dog to the clinic he evaluates him and gives me the medication, no the one that is going to heal him but the one that will make me come back to the clinic for another evaluation over and over again. It is a chain and that's how he makes his money. Not coming back again.

Natasha Taylor

The staff at BWV Animal Hospital are incredibly accommodating. It's obvious they genuinely care about your animal's health & wellbeing. Vet bills are notoriously high but I feel the clinic provides good value. I did not get the sense my cat was being "over prescribed" either. If cost of pet care is a concern consider Pet Insurance!

As a former client of this vet (x 9 years), I have now moved on to a new vet with no regrets! Here is my honest review: This is what scores the point: Vet techs are great! Warm, friendly, welcoming staff at reception and modern space. These are the issues: (1) My dog is now in her geriatric years and has lived an extremely healthy life! However, the only instance she needed urgent medical attention happened on a Saturday. I phoned BWVAH literally the moment they opened just to be told they were fully booked and go elsewhere. After being a client of theirs for YEARS and to be turned away her ONE time of need, I was very unimpressed. Another busy clinic we had never been before happily saw her that day. (2) When I arrived to pick her up after dental cleaning surgery, she was in rough shape. It was like no one bothered to clean her up after the procedure. Her fur was a mess and her eye had a massive blob of green goop floating on it so thick, I peeled it off at the car so she could see again. Being a surgical nurse myself, I was again unimpressed as I cleaned her up myself at home. (3) Appt's feel rushed and much of the vet's time is spent facing/typing on the computer, and I found I was repeating myself indicating lack of listening. I prefer the approach at my new vet where the vet tech is in the appointment typing on the computer while the vet's full attention is on you and your pet. (4) On our final visit at BWVAH, my dog received no treatment for her issue despite me questioning the vet that I really believed she needed antibiotics. For all the conditions he believed it to be (ie. pneumonia), the treatment was the same (antibiotics), but he still did not want to give her any without diagnostic proof through bloodwork. I thought her symptoms were proof enough (runny eyes/nose, coughing/sneezing, malaise) but did bloodwork anyway (what other choice did I have?). From the bloodwork, the vet ruled out pneumonia but noticed slight drop in her thyroid and said we should pursue further testing with the blood sample they already had. When I asked if thyroid would explain her current illness (I knew it wouldn't, as she wasn't exhibiting symptoms of a low thyroid dog), the vet agreed no it would not. But my dog still sat at home with her current sickness untreated and getting worse. I agreed to the thyroid test anyway, and the next day I was called back by the vet to tell me they actually didn't have enough blood for the test and I would have to come back in and pay for (and subject my dog to) yet another blood draw. I was leaving for cottage country and I told them I wanted to decline the test for now. There was still no answer for my dog's current issue, which is why I brought her to the vet in the first place. Her condition deteriorated in cottage country and we found ourselves hunting down a vet to see her urgently. This vet was wonderful, put her on antibiotics immediately, and really opened my eyes to how a vet should be. I returned to the city with the goal of finding a vet like the one we experienced up north and so far I am happy with the new one. Sidenote: The vet in cottage country said if I did want to do the thyroid testing to wait at least 6 weeks because she had also just been on steroid medication which throws a thyroid off. I knew this myself, as a nurse, but I was putting my trust in the expert, her vet. Her new vet since then said she exhibited no signs of a dog with low thyroid, but did repeat her routine bloodwork and everything came back normal. Hope my long-winded experiences can be informing for anyone looking for a new vet. Edit: For what happened in Cottage Country, see my Cottage Country Animal Clinic review for photo of my dog's deteriorated condition after she was left untreated at BWVAH. And see her 180 the day after she finally received the antibiotics she badly needed.

Read the reviews before you go to this clinic! Your pets will NOT be in good hands. Trust what the public says and do not leave your beloved pet in the hands of this place. There are too many horror stories and this clinic does not care about your animals.

So far so good. We had to take our kittens for their first visit and in the "New World" we had to drop them off and then come and get them without seeing the doctors in person. So, the receptionist was good and used good customer service. He gentleman who came out to take the kittens in was ok. I'd have expected a little more attention, but maybe my expectations were too high. The doctor was good on the phone. He explained everything and also answered my question with good detail. One of our kittens had ear mites. Since leaving the clinic he has fully recovered and the other kitten is none the worse for the wear. So far I would suggest that this clinic is a good one to take your pet.

So here's how my experience went: I have a pet cat. I brought him here perhaps 2-3 times since I've had him and every time I go in they're pushing unnecessary products and services. My pet cat got sick, this clinic didn't have any openings. So then I called another vet clinic and they could see my cat that day. They had to contact this clinic to get a history on my cat. So then BWVAH calls me back and says "oh hey if you're looking for an appointment today we can have you drop off your cat and at some point our doctor can take a look," absolutely not. Spent $200 at the different clinic. The other clinic followed up, told me I should head to an emergency animal hospital. Which I did. Got x-rays and blood work done there, then was recommended to get an ultrasound. Spent $600 at this emergency clinic. I asked my primary vet clinic (which is this one BWVAH) if they do ultrasounds, they did, it was someone who isn't always there so they had to check when he's available to make the appointment. So they called me back and gave me a 9am Friday appointment, great, then AFTER making the appointment she adds by the way it's $100 cancellation fee, I'm thinking no problem. The next day when they follow up for some covid and cat questions I ask how long the procedure is and she tells me "oh the technician who does the ultrasound has a window from 10am-12pm". Why wasn't this communicated to me when I made the initial appointment? #1 I don't drive, #2 I don't live nearby anymore, #3 my cat doesn't like to be in a cage. I would have never made this appointment had I known he'd be sitting there in his cage that long, also I had no choice but to wait at the park, because it wouldn't make sense to go home then come back on the off chance they had finished up early. I wanted to be clear on what I was getting charged with so I asked the receptionist "I'm just being charged for the ultrasound correct?" She says "yes" I go on to ask her to make sure there's nothing else I'm being charged with she puts me on hold and then goes on to say "your cat hasn't been checked by our doctors in a while so they'll want to check him out" (a check up fee is $100+ and the ultrasound is $400+). This was really frustrating, I told her this doesn't make any sense, my cat has been see by 2 different vets in a matter of 5 days, and they've both sent over their reports. It's clear to me that an external examination will not result in answers. I tell them I can't afford it and then she says "it's just $98 for the check up" maybe that's not a lot for her but living off of CERB it's a lot for me considering how much I've already spent. I argue that I can't afford it and we go back and forth until finally she says they'll figure something out possibly just give the ultrasound results to the clinic's who have done a check up on my cat. So I'm at the park waiting. I dropped him off at 9:30am. Its 11:30am haven't heard a thing so I decide to call to ask for an update, and whoever I was talking to say "oh yes he is ready to be picked up". So if I hadn't called how long would I have waited? How long would my cat have waited? When I went to go pick him up gave they gave me very little information which they probably see it as my fault since I didn't pay for a check up. They wouldn't even tell me if I could start feeding him again. Nothing. The ONLY nice thing I can say is that someone called to follow up on my cats ultrasound report and talked to me a little, wasn't pushy, explained what they found and what to look out for, and the next steps. The communication is less than poor. You should be ashamed of yourselves, a place full of doctors and none with a heart. You're supposed to help your patients not steal their money especially during a crisis.

I've had two great experiences with two other vets at this clinic and the vet techs and staff at this clinic have been nothing but amazing. However, this has been outweighed by my experience with Dr. O'Toole. I was given a vague, unhelpful explanation of my cat's symptoms and sent home with no information, and $400 worth of tests that showed nothing that were not necessary. He was belligerent and talked over me the entire appointment. When I saw another vet, they seemed unsurprised that I was given such bad information on my cat's actual illness which is now being treated. My cat suffered for months unnecessarily and has a relatively treatable, common condition. I had no information to flag the symptoms and put my trust in a vet who I thought cared about my pet. While I would recommend this clinic I would strongly advise not seeing Dr. O'Toole. He clearly is a vet in it for the money without a care about the pets or people he deals with.

Dr. O'toole has been taking care of my 2 dogs when needed. The staff at this vet are fantastic.

My cats have been to each of the vets here and they’ve all been fairly good. I feel that they genuinely care about my animals, more so than some previous vets I’ve seen. It’s a bit of a trek from my place downtown. I first started coming here when my kitty was sick and everywhere else I called couldn’t take us in any sooner than a week. BWVAH squeezed us in the next day and we’ve been going here ever since.

Tal Bevan

They really care for out pets!

Just awful. Heartless. My cat was in labour and had birthed 3 stillborn kittens. I was a client of theirs and called for advice. They refused to tell me anything over the phone and told me to bring her in. Bring in my cat who is in labour?!?! Right. I'll never be going back. Disgusting.

Spike747

I’m going to make this short as I know people aren’t likely to read the long ones. My dog is a senior and has been a patient here for around seven years. Now, when my boy needs a caring vet the most, I am looking for a new one. This place used to be good but in recent years it seems they have become more concerned with selling procedures and product than they are about the pets over-all well-being. And they aren’t above using guilt to manipulate owners. They can also be extremely dismissive and condescending if you dare question anything. As my dog ages I fear that it might not be far off that I need to say good-bye. The last thing any pet owner wants or needs is a callus vet and staff when trying to deal with a pets failing health. Or worse, to have to say good-bye in a room without compassion. I should have paid more attention to the multitude of other reviews on this site that gave fair warnings. And what I’d heard from pet owners in my own building. I wondered why with them being right across the street I’d never come across anyone else in the building who used them. I stuck with them because they seemed to be good in the past and they were convenient. That was my mistake. All the trust I once had in them is gone. Worn down after multiple bad and questionable encounters. It’s been a bit of a nightmare, really. I wish all pet owners the best and hope you find a vet that you trust and who understands that your pets are family and not just profit. And I encourage you to read through some of the other warning reviews on here. The older your pets get the more you need to be able to trust your vet. It’s extremely disappointing.

I've been bringing my cat Bear here for a few years now and I'm honestly more impressed each time I visit. The vets and staff are all so friendly and willing to go the extra mile. If I bring Bear in for a problem, they always call a few days later to see how he's doing. They're also very good about offering advice or answering questions over the phone. The focus always seems to be more on healthcare than trying to make a buck. So happy I found this place. Highly recommend bringing your furry friend here!

I agree with Spike747, Ashley Fernandes, Yana D, Kyle Reaburn, Bonnie W, Graciela Martinez. Our experience at this hospital was really sad. They did not care about our dog and they scarred her with an unnecessary biopsy. They are rude. Money is all they care about.

A new client but so far this vet is MUCH better than the previous one I took my dog to. The staff are very attentive even with lockdown restrictions preventing me from going inside. The vet made sure I had room to ask questions after going over issues my dog was having and are following up in a few days - my previous vet would never. Would highly recommend.

Dr. O'Toole treats his employees like they are worthless, and beneath him. He openly humiliates them in front of his clients. He insinuates that they aren't capable of their jobs and orders them around as if they are his personal peasants. When he gets angry at his employees he takes it out on everyone around him - including his patients. A good doctor yes, but he tends to favour his caucasian employees. Dr O'Toole has lost many staff members due to his bad temper and anger problems which sometimes go as far as throwing objects across the treatment area. Not a good experience.

I use to take my dog to this clinic but I left for a few reasons. One reason is, after my visits I felt that they were pushing unnecessary tests when my dog was healthy and I was just going to pick up his flea and tic medication. Another reason I left is because I called the clinic about a year ago asking if they could write a letter stating my dog was up to date on his vaccinations so I could take him across the border. The receptionist that answered my call said no, they don't do that. So I called another clinic and asked if they write letters to show your pet is up to date on their vaccinations and they said absolutely! Then I called Bloor West Village Animal Hospital again and asked why they wouldn't give me a record of my dogs vaccinations. The receptionist couldn't give me a reason. She said she was unsure. So I made the request again and I finally got my letter. That's when I decided to switch my dog to a new vet clinic. I recently had an appointment at the new vet clinic and they said my dog was prescribed too many different types of tic medications from the previous year and that the dosage was too high for his body weight. I decided to leave a review today because I just got off the phone with the receptionist at Bloor West Village Animal Hospital because I had a question about my dogs tic medication from the previous year and she laughed at me. Since I've had a few negative experiences with them, I decided it was worth the time to leave a review.

Overall this was the worst vet we have ever visited. They were highly unprofessional, snarky, rude, didn't read their own forms that we submitted. They should be closed down so no one has to experience this level of in-service and disservice to animals

Always very friendly and informative. Have been taking my cat here for 6 years now.

Bloor West Village Animal Hospital turned a simple blood test into a debilitating condition for my dog. I brought my 3 year old, healthy and happy dog into BWVAH in Spring 2020 for a simple blood test. Due to cover pet owners were not allowed inside. I should have immediately cancelled based on the way the tech or assistant dragged my dog inside. Twenty minutes later I'm told they cut him during the blood test. By this point he's has blood taken 8 times in his life at other vets, never an issue. The injury caused has still not healed and my dog has now developed a chronic condition from it. I'm sure there will be a pithy and frankly made up response from the owners to this review but please take caution before bringing your pet here.

I truly wish I had the ability to rate this veterinary clinic zero stars. If you cherish and love your pet, do NOT bring them to this Animal Hospital. My healthy happy 3 year old Labrador recently tragically died due to wood getting stuck in his intestines. Dr. O'toole was Unempathetic, unkind and blatantly dismissive to my family. I do not feel confident in any of the care which Coby received, and we will regret that he had his surgery done by Dr. O'toole for the rest of our lives. I highly recommend taking your dog to the Missasauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital in the case that they require surgery, as we rushed Coby there after the procedure done by Dr. O'toole and they did try their best to comfort and take good care of him. I never once thought my beautiful dog could die from what seemed like a simple enough procedure. Our family did not receive the proper information or understanding of what was going on through the process and Dr. O'toole emphasized how busy he was. We will be taking our other pets elsewhere. I can only hope that no one else's beloved family member will suffer like my sweet dog did in Dr. O'tooles terrible level of care.

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. The Vet was nice but they over charged me and insinuated that I was being cheap when all I wanted was to understand my bill. They misquoted me three times then over charged me. In addition to this, they wanted to charge me an additional amount when the vet told me this particular testing was free. They are dishonest and I don't understand how they expect someone to trust them with the life or their loved pet.

Compassionate, Professional, I have 3 dogs and wouldn't trust them with anyone but Chris.

Please see Spike747 review below. It reflects my experience perfectly. I am almost a ten year client with two pets. The service and nature of care has diminished drastically since then. O'Toole has been fine and as a succinct communicator I never minded his approach. Quick, blunt and pleasant. He never over recommended testing and often picked up the phone on various issues. That O'Toole is long gone. A failure of his own success. It's become a treadmill in recent years. Yes, I have been patronized by two of the vets. They barely barf up a few words at times, then sulk as you figure out where to go from there. One of my pets had an emergency last year after eating an earplug. We didn't know that and when asked O'Toole impatiently barked out that was likely it. He was right. A massive and disruptive hustle of our cat ensued. Why? Not the Pandemic. The 9 to 5 hours M to F and no weekend service. The lack of diagnostic services on site. Then over to Norseman emergency with 8 am pickup. We were initally grateful when O'Toole agreed to do the surgery immediately once finally MRId. That was sheer luck, because the MRI came onsite that day. This vet doesn't have those services. Surgery was performed and he asked his team to stay late to do it. Again, very grateful. Picked my pet up and was SHOCKED by the 30 or so staples all the way up her stomach and her poor condition. No info was provided other than a sweaty O'Toole asking to take her back to the Norseman clinic for night stay. Thought, "Wow, nice vet, worries about them like their his own." Not so much. Norseman emergency clinic read the record and said "Of course he wants her in overnight. She ASPIRATED during surgery." In other words, our cat threw up during surgery and could have developed pneumonia and DIED shortly thereafter. Not a word from O'Toole. A check up for another pet last year was met with the impatient contempt described in many posts here. The hair on my neck stood up. Latest deal: Emergency visit for a virus this past weekend. Records were forwarded to BWVAH and I got a friendly call Monday. "How is she? We have lots of appointments later this week if you need us." I felt impressed. Until she didn't bother to follow-up on a simple question I had with the vet. Our pet didn't improve and we emailed this vet at 8 am. By 11:30 I called in to find out if they got it. Some new fellow said .... "Ya sure... here it is." Starts reading it back to me. Never opened or read it. Call Back Again. Sure, we're told, come at noon for a priority appointment (some 30 minutes away) BUT O'Toole charges an emergency priority rate at $140. Right. An emergency rate for a pet already diagnosed that he's been seeing since infancy. An emergency rate for a 9 to 5 op with no MRI, diagnostics or capacity to care after 5 pm. And likely a kick back to Norseman while you further traumatize your pet bouncing it around. An Emergency Rate for a ten year client. Pay attention to these posts. I no longer feel safe or confident taking my pets here and haven't since this butcher punched 30 staples into my cat, and sent me off to Norseman who told me asap... the cat ASPIRATED during surgery. Thank God she survived. What was once a small, manageable practice locally has burgeoned to the point of implosion. This vet from reviews can't handle the load, doesn't have the temperment to lead, and frankly should not be trusted with anything other than a cursory check-up of a healthy, young pet. The outstanding emergency clinic care we received recently has reminded me of the professionalism, concern and care that every pet owner deserves. Good luck Chris, padding your retirement fund with your new Priority Fees. It won't be on the backs of my pet's health. PS Meghan, we love you and will miss you.

Great service

I'm obsessed with my cat. She means the world to me, so a good vet is extremely important. I really recommend this vet. They have been really good to us.

Dont over charge you.

Writing on behalf of someone in my family: My family member brought in our dog for a check up for this growth she has, and during the whole appointment, the vet was half asleep and hardly gave any feedback or even went near the dog. My family member wanted more information on blood tests, ultrasounds and general stuff she should be doing for her senior dog as cancer is a big worry. The vet mumbled "what? you're paranoid or something?" ... like that is the best response to tell a worried pet owner. Very cold environment and will never bring my pets here again.

I've been taking my dog here since 2014 and have been nothing less than completely satisfied. They treat my dog very well and make a point of explaining what they offering you and not charging for unnecessary treatments. Awesome!

Dr. O’Toole has saved 2 of ours cats, and we are so thankful to him! He preformed bladder surgery on our kitty Belle, who was experiencing painful bladder stones and blood in her urine. Since then, she has been fully recovered without any issues! Our other cat LeRoi was experiencing episodes of lameness, and after running the appropriate tests, Dr. O’Toole noticed that his potassium levels were low and causing him severe weakness. LeRoi was started on a potassium supplement and hasn’t been experiencing those disturbing episodes since! We have been going to Bloor West Village Animal Hospital for many years, and we trust the quality and care that Dr. O’Toole continues to provide. We highly recommend!

Really helpful and friendly. They gave great advice for our cat when we needed it most. I would recommend this place to friends.
