I am always hesitant to go to vets due to past experiences. I've often been told to get excess things done that are not necessary. You can tell Dr. Jill Preston is very patient and not out for your money. She was patient as she explained things to us and took her time with my babies. Her solutions were very reasonable and not all required purchases. In fact she disuaded us from unnecessary ones. Always nice to find vets who are genuinely interested in the good of the animals health instead of the money they can make.

I have taken my siamese cats to Birchwood for over 10 years. The staff have always been friendly, professional, caring and understanding. I would recommend Birchwood for vet care for cats, especially Dr Robertson, who has siamese cats herself. Over the 10 years I have had my cats seen by all the vets there and they are all caring and compassionate. For an extra fee they will also do house visits which was a definite bonus for my female cat who had an extreme dislike for visits to the vet.

This is the best service and care I have ever seen from a veterinary clinic in Winnipeg. They were very quick to diagnose and treat my cat. He was suffering a urethral blockage and after treatment and medications and even a slight infection post treatment, he will make a full recovery. The staff especially Dr. Hannah and Lisa were great with answering questions and having alternatives when issues arouse with my cat. He is a particularly fussy and some what aggressive animal and he was treated exceptionally well.

I liked this animal hospital for my dog until the vet decided to be sneaky about the physical exam. She didnt even tell us she was doing one, i said on the phone all i wanted was updated shots as my dog had a recent exam from surgery. Well i didnt know she did it until i got bill and had already paid!!! They didnt even show me what i was paying for until i had paid!!! Vets are crooked be careful and dont let them touch your animal until you have reconfirmed what you want!!!

I have been taking my critters there as long as I can remember and I couldn't be happier with them. The staff there have endured some very cranky kitties, are my dogs bff as far as she's concerned and really do take wonderful care of my pets. When we exhausted all avenues of treatment with my old kitty, they let me take him home for one last night with the family and then Dr.Boyd came to the house the next day to put him to rest. I would always do it this way going forward, because he got to go in the peace of his own home. Dr.Boyd is especially wonderful, just love her. Can't recommend these folks enough.

I have bringing my dog and other pets I had in the past to this Hospital for over 10 years, I was satisfied with each visit until recently... I needed an up to date record for my current dog's vaccines only to find out that he was months over due for multiple shots and a physical examination, most animal Hospitals send emails/mail as reminders for these types of things but I didn't receive anything. Due to my dog's allergies, I have been bringing him in quite frequently yet they didn't bother to tell me about the over due vaccines during that time either. The receptionist claims my email was on file but didn't let me know what email was showing on the file, nor did I get any calls or letters in the mail for this matter. This lack of communication is very upsetting. As all pet owners do, I worry about and love my dog very deeply. I will be taking my dog else where for medical attention in hopes that the next animal Hospital will actually care and do their job correctly.

It is simply one of the best vet clinics I have visited. We recently moved to Winnipeg and were trying to find a place to spay our cat. Not only the prices are very affordable compared to other places, the level of care and attention to details is just fantastic, you will literally feel the coziness of this place. Keeping in mind when I wrote this, it was 1.5 years into pandemic Covid-19 response. They took every precaution to keep us and our pets safe. They provided optimal care for my sick pups, ranging from tooth extraction (providing a detailed estimate which came in lower), a yeast infection in my big dogs ear, and a bacterial infection in my smaller dogs ear, and GI infection. They always fit me in when my dogs needed them. They even let me use the bathroom every time, and as a current cancer (in treatment) patient, I was very grateful. Because of this, I made it home every time with no personal accidents. Thank you. I appreciate all your kindness and thoughtfulness and current knowledge of veterinary care.

I went to see Dr Jillian Preston, hopeless as I was told by my (now former) vet that my sweet boy Brannigan (an FIV positive 11 years old rescued cat) had 3 months to live. She didn't give up on him, neither told me that it will be 100% ok. But, she showed such kindness and vast knowledge that I am overwhelmed with gratitude. And we are fighting it! Super reasonable prices, you feel really like a patient and not a client. They will be from now the vet of my pets.

I took my sick kitty here recently and was very pleased with my experience. There wasn't an attempt to over sell me on any unnecessary tests or items, only the concern of my cat's health. Excellent communication and very quick service - considering this was an emergency situation. The only minor drawback is that I wasn't able to accompany my cat in for her exam. But with the reality of COVID-19, I can totally understand that decision. Still I'm very happy with the care my cat got with Birchwood Animal Hospital. This will become my regular vet for my animals going forward!

I'm really fond of Birchwood. I went for the first time after a bad experience at Assiniboine animal, and found both the vets I had at birchwood were a little more gentle with my cat. I also appreciate that they take emergencies promptly and when I arrived that day without a cat carrier or leash I never heard any negative feedback; even though I know it's proper protocol to have them securely leashed. Friendly staff. Knowledgable, gentle vets. Always my place of choice.

I let go of my 11 years vet beacuse when my 5 month old pup got a bad allergy reaction Birchwood animal hospital is the only hospital that responded to me and the vet call me right away to offer help and advice me what I can do from home and what medication I can give..the dr even call me next day to see how puppy is doing. And didnt even charge me anything. That's how much they care for pets. Dr went above and beyond to help my baby. Answersd all the questions I had. THE staff is amazing very helpful and caring. The pricess are very responsible. We are so lucky to have this amazing vet hospital that care for our fur babies.

Recently switched to Birchwood Animal Hospital as we were not impressed by our previous vet. Turns out to have been a great decision on our part. Birchwood staff were awesome and the veterinarian assigned to us, Dr Andrea Robertson, turned out to be just the kind of vet we were looking for. My wife and I were amazed at how well she took to our dog Stella but how relaxed Stella was with her. Dr Robertson did all we asked for in the examination and shots and did not try to up sell us on other treatments that were not really required. She let us know of the other issues and left it there. I would definitely highly rate Dr Robertson and the Birchwood Animal Hospital and we will be going there from now on.

Rue my pup had needed to go for an ultrasound. After doing research i found this vet. Dr Philipp Schott was amazing. His advanced training in sonography is exactly why I choose him. I was concerned due to his experience in ultrasound it would be more expensive than other vet places but it isnt! It's worth it to come here for his expertise. Unfortunately I couldn't watch the scan due to covid but he explained everything i needed after. I can not recommend him enough!

I have switched to this clinic after being very unhappy at my old one. This had great reviews by word of mouth and online. My dog had his 1st visit. Since we are in this pandemic we cannot have in person visits but they have a great system in having a pre and post consult which is no different than being in the exam room with your pet. They are very friendly and caring. My dog was a bit scared going in as it was his first time but came out happy and they assured me he did well. The doctor walked me through the exam over the phone and we discussed treatment options. The doctor listening to all my concerns not rushing me or making me feel like unheard. She was very caring, informative, professional, knowledgeable and kind. I am very happy with my decision to switch.

Birchwood Animal Hospital is full of kind and caring individuals. Every vet that my beautiful Ginger saw was kind and attentive always taking our concerns seriously and giving her the best care. After my girl started having seizures at 14 years 10 months we brought her in to see Dr. Hannah who assessed her and witnessed an episode. She kindly explained to us what we could do to improve her quality of life. We left with medications and advice. After Ginger had 6 more days with us, she ate all the treats she wanted and had some very good time, Dr. Hannah kindly called every day to check how she was doing. Ginger ended up passing on her own accord without vet assistance with her family surrounding her. After her passing they sent us a card as well showing how much they care. We are so grateful to Dr. Hannah and the whole team at Birchwood. We now bring our new puppy there and the love and attention to detail that the staff has for their paitents has not changed. over priced, they vets do care but they dont care to help enough, Our cat had teeth problems and it took them 3 days to find out what was wrong, after 800 dollars spent, they found out it was his teeth,. he needed to be on meds for 2 weeks before he could get his teeth extracted which they said could either be 200 dollars or up to 1000 dollars, it ended up being 1200 dollars, they removed 2 teeth, the problems starting coming back not even a month later, which is when we called Selkirk animal hospital in Selkirk and are getting the rest of his teeth taken out for only 600 dollars, they care more about money at birchwood that's a sad fact when it comes to your animals life!

Both Drs Boyd and Robertson have taken care of my feisty 8 lb. poodle, Joe, who is a happy 17 years old in a gentle decline. This is an expensive time, which is only to be expected as old age brings infirmity, and both vets have been sensitive to the limits of my budget while we figure out Joe's best care. They have answered my questions in full and been willing to spend the time to educate me about Joe's issues. The service itself has been responsive to emergency calls (he just ate 4 giant chocolate cookies! He just had a seizure!) and I have gotten quick and useful advice over the phone without cost. All the staff, vets and support staff, have been kind, friendly, and easy to deal with. Finally, the costs have been cheaper than at two other veterinarian clinics I have used. I am very happy with Birchwood. Updated to say Joe is gone now and I have a new little dog with his own health problems, receiving exemplary care from the vets at Birchwood. Everybody, the many vets he has had to see because of his complicated health issues, an the support staff, are skilled and caring, and the costs remain fair. I love this place.

Our cats' family doctor is Dr. Stacey Hannah. She is really, really amazing! On our every visit, she always show a lot of love to our cats. We live near St Norbert in South Winnipeg, which is far from Birchwood Animal Hospital, but we still make the trip to Birchwood for veterinary care for our cats because of Dr. Hannah. I've never seen a vet that shows love and care towards our cats as Dr. Hannah does. When Dr. Hannah wasn't available, we also had the privilege to work with other veterinarians at Birchwood. Excellent Vet, been bringing our animals here for more than 20 years and have found that over time they have only gotten better. Very friendly very easy to deal with, and in a rarity for a Veterinary clinic they are actually quite concerned with keep their patients costs down. For reference over the years were have brought 5 cats and 2 dogs through their doors at various times. Two of the cats and one of the dogs eventually had to be put down after very long and healthy lives. Throughout the lives of these animals and including the end we have had few if any complaints about the quality and cost of care we have received. Having dealt with many clinics over the years, some of whom are rated very highly, I would find it very hard to believe that better care could be found in the city of Winnipeg.

Birchwood is absolutely amazing. My dog came in after she got cut at the groomer. They took such good care of her, and the vet himself even checked in afterwards via email. Their fees are more than reasonable, and they even have a "quick follow up" fee, which is great when it's an ongoing issue. The people here are absolutely incredible with your pet. They took in my kitty for the night and did not charge me for the hospital stay. My kitty was peeing and dripping blood everywhere and the next day when I came to take him home it was like he was never sick. They were flexible about my schedule and let me pick up my cat a bit later than originally agreed on because I didn't want to take my cat on the bus and that was the only time I can get a ride. I very much appreciate their patience and understanding. They took all my concerns into consideration and didn't talk down to me. They answered all my questions clearly and respectfully. Purple hair girl with amazing to talk to and I wish I'd gotten her name because she is really awesome and kind to both owner and pet. I don't think I actually met Dr. Boyd but I know s/he worked on my kitty too and together everyone did a good job of making kitty better. This is definitely going to be my go-to place from now on whenever I need the vet. These people really care about your pet and I did not find the cost unreasonable. I am very grateful for veterinary care like this especially because pet owners are not allowed in the back to be with their pet due to COVID. My kitty was totally safe in their hands and I appreciate the people here so much. Definitely recommend. The kindness and effort of these veterinarians towards my sick and terrified kitty have not gone unnoticed. Thank you for making Georgie better. Update: His sickness came back and I didn't know what to do due to the high cost. They offered to let me surrender him to them so that they could give him better chance since WHS requires an appointment to surrender and are more likely to euthanize because they have a higher amount of animals in their care. I am very grateful that they offered me this service. I am very sad to see Georgie go. I hope that they can help him and I thank them for taking him in. This is an amazing vet clinic. We have been taking our Shih Tzu Scruffy here since he came into our lives in 2008. The Birchwood family loves to see him come in the door and Scruffy wags his tail to let them know I have arrived at one of my safe places. They have tended to all his yearly check ups and nursed him through recovery of eye surgery and performed his operation for crystals. The staff at the desk is very animal knowledgeable as well. The doctors and nurses treat each animal special as one of their own. Scheduling is always considerate of your pets needs and owners as well. Scruffy (age 12 yrs) now has a retina situation and shows signs of high blood pressure. He has endured much and still is but the great doctors and staff of Birchwood Animal Clinic remains Scruffy's go to place. We believe in them.

I brought my 3 month old puppy to Birchwood Animal Hospital for her first round of shots. I was told she would require a second round of shots in a couple months. I asked and was told i would be contacted when these shots were due. I received no notification whatsoever. After waiting 4 months i called to inquire. They couldnt tell me which shots she required and when they were due. They even asked me if i knew. Should this information not be on file at the clinic?? I then made an appointment to come in on a tuesday. After phoning back to confirm my TUESDAY appointment i arrived and was told my appointment was booked on their computer for wednesday and i would have to come back. Needless to say i have moved on to a more competent veterinary clinic. After reading some horror stories about this place im glad i did.

But what I really appreciated was how she explained the purpose of the different meds and why they were prescribed. But the thing that was TRULY outstanding was when I was driving home, she phoned to tell me that we were at the beginning of my dog's treatment, not the end, and to not give up hope. I thought that was remarkable.

My family(numerous dogs over the years) have had the loving care and guidance of all the doctors over the years beginning with Dr. Clark. What a wonderful place to go to. The staff is so caring. I wish I could find a team like them for myself. I have always received a follow-up call after any surgery my 5 dogs over the past have had. When my mini schnauzer went blind and developed diabetes the techs were excellent in teaching me how to give him his insulin shots and they all were almost as upset as I when he passed away. The Doctors are always willing to discuss the animals treatment to great lengths if required ; great support. I highly recommend Birchwood to anyone wanting THE BEST care for their animal family.

I did, all of 15 minutes, not a wait to me. He was seen, a diagnosis was made, prescription given and he even had time to get a manicure.
