After a tough search finding a good vet, we found our safe place at Granville Island Vet. Dr. Rose and the team are smart, kind, patient and understanding. The staff is friendly and dependable. They know me and my pets and take wonderful care of us. This clinic is extremely cost effective and do not push unnecessary services. Granville Island Vet has the highest standard of care and compassion I have ever experienced at a vet. I would recommend this vet before any other and cannot say enough good things about them!

We've taken 3 senior cats here, the service is always excellent, the medical opinions are always explained in detail ( if you ask). Note though that knowledgeable opinions require tests results so don't be surprised if things cost a bit more than other places.

This is hands down the best vet experience I have had. My cat needed to have their teeth cleaned and after hunting around vancouver I decided to come to the Granville Island Veterinarians based on the reviews. First visit: just a check up but with an added touch that showed how much they truly cared for Seven Potatoes (my cat). I took him to the vet in his cat backpack. After the appointment, my vet came out wearing it say she always wanted to go hiking with a cat. Had a good laugh but was also very professional and told me in a lot of detail her opinion. Teeth cleaning: Your pet goes into surgery so it's always a bit concerning. They walked me through what would happen, offered to call if they needed to check in during and also said I should call at any time. After the surgery they gave me a 2 page detailed list of what he went through and instructions for home care. The vet called me and read it to me outloud and let me ask questions. They also followed up a number of times asking if he was ok. Generally, you get the sense that they are really well equipped to give the best care for the cat and also make you feel that you can do the same once your animal is at home. Can't say enough good things.

After searching the Greater Vancouver area for a good vet, we finally found the Granville Island Veterinary Hospital. Every other vet treated our dog like an animal, when they should be treated as part of the family, because that's what they are -- the folks at Granville Island understand this and have excellent bedside manner. They are very thorough in the exam room and have been friendly, caring, and helpful from day 1. Yes, they may be a little more expensive but you get what you pay for -- I would recommend this vet clinic to anyone.

Our dog had very bloody diarrhea , we explained our stress of the problem over the phone of a receptionist and all she asked was if we had brought our dog there before, which we did not, and right away without any concern she said she could not help us or give us another option. Her tone was rude and very unhelpful. Thankfully we phoned another near by vet which could not get our dog in until the next morning yet they gave us tons of info and home remedies to keep our dog comfortable unlike Granville I. Vet

3 attempts on 3 different occasions to buy some product. Can't speak for the Veteranarians but the counter staff are horrendous , rude and not helpful whatsoever. It is easier to buy a new car at a car dealership than it is yo buy a bag of dog food from this clinic. The ridiculous hoops you must jump through to get a simple answer is far from worth dealing with this place especially when there are better clinics nearby who are professional and helpful. Boo ????

Hands down I would refer them to ANYONE. They've always treated my dog just like she's their own. All the staff are VERY friendly and you can tell they all genuinely love animals. I've been taking my dog here for her entire life (4 years now) and I've never once had an experience that was not amazing.

This isn't my regular vet, but my dog had an emergency during the holidays and they were the only nearby vet clinic that was open, so I called them up and they got me in within a few hours. Superb treatment in dealing with my dog's eye ulcers, explained everything to me very well and healed him up quickly. On top of everything, they helped me deal with a very difficult dog groomer who was trying to refuse responsibility for the ulcers. One issue was that they forgot to give me an e-collar on the first visit, so I had to drive all the way back to pick it up after I had already gone home. If I hadn't called them up to ask about an e-collar, they would have forgotten about it completely and that may have been dangerous for my dog's eyes since he was rubbing them. So even though that was resolved, it was entirely on my part and they should bear the responsibility of giving e-collars to patients that need them.

This is Lukin’s vet and I find all the staff there to be professional and friendly. I had to take him in and his regular vet wasn’t available but the vet who helped us was great as well. Even though my only complaint about my dogs health was a vague ‘he gets tired and makes noise when he breathes’ she examined Lukin thoroughly. Even though she didn’t find any obvious evidence of sickness, she gave me all of the treatment options available and explained what each would do. I wasn’t pressured to choose anything. In the end I decided to go with the more expensive options but it was worth it to find out what was wrong with Lukin. The staff has been good about supporting any questions I have regarding his hypothyroidism.

They're very organized and friendly and were able to fit us in for an x-ray promptly and then was very accommodating when I had to call back and reschedule to an earlier time. Dr. Thatcher is patient, kind, and gentle and is super positive and caring. Having just moved here, we were looking for a vet and am thrilled to have found a great one on the first try. Update to this - it's been a year and we have consistently gotten great service from caring vets every time! Everyone on staff is helpful and accommodating. I called with a semi-emergency after they had already closed and the staff who answered still answered all of my questions and didn't try to rush me off the phone. She gave me advice and let me decide what I wanted to do, which was to ultimately wait until the morning and take my dog in first thing. If I ever move further away I'm going out of my way to come back to them.

We took our puppy here for his puppy checkups and vaccinations. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly and sent us home with a bunch of samples to get us through the thick of the puppy chewing phase. Our vet Dr. Rose gave us ample time to ask all of our "new parent" questions and gave us all the information we needed to decide what vaccinations were right for our puppy given his "lifestyle". She was very gentle with our puppy during his physical examination and he was completely at ease the whole time. And the price of our visits was much less than the first vet office that we visited (which is nice too).

Outstanding on every level! I have been a client for 15 years. Dr. Ignacio has been the primary care veterinarian for three of my dogs. He is very experienced, knowledgeable, thorough, empathetic and has a very caring and compassionate approach to his patients’ needs. In his absence, I have dealt with the other veterinarians and they all deliver quality care and are amazing. The technicians and reception staff are attentive, work very hard to ensure their patients’ needs are met and they are absolutely lovely. This hospital is exceptional and I highly recommend it for your animal’s primary care.

I really like the location and convenience of this vet clinic. I do not like the turnover in veterinarians. It’s been constant over the years which is concerning. The consistent is Robin in the front office. She’s wonderful and has been a staple there since I started going over ten years ago. I am not sure if I will return to this place because I’d like our dog to see someone who gets to know them throughout their life and the turnover rate here doesn’t give much confidence in that. Otherwise, I’ve been mostly satisfied with their services.

We found this Vet's place on google review when we moved here to Vancouver last year from Hollywood. We have both had our yearly checkups already and we love the place and our nice Dr Jordan. Vinneys the chill lazy one, but me, Sachia the pretty one obviously, not so chill! What! ...You lookin at me? You can check us out in photo section! I won't just let anyone trim my claws at home so I come here once a month or so for my pawdicure too. I also get my meds here that I have to take twice daily for Hyperesthesia. Not many humans know what that is but they do here, so there! Maybe we will see you here sometime. The lazy one and I recommend this place highly if your looking for a great Vet.

The quality of care, and the vet expertise, is generally good. I've always felt the pricing to be high (but had accepted this as a compromise for the location convenience and level of care). However, during the pandemic (May 20th 2020) I needed to renew an old medication (Metacam), for a recurrent shoulder injury in my Bernese Mountain Dog. I had a brief (exactly 4.0 minute) phone call with one of the vets to confirm, and then went to pick up the medicine. I was charged a $39.50 plus tax telemedicine consult fee (in addition to a marked up 32ml metacam cost of $75). I asked for a justification for the telemedicine pricing structure but none was forthcoming. This apparent price gouging during a pandemic has soured my opinion of Granville Island Vets. Very disappointing.

I've been coming here with my pet for 9 years. I always have a great experience, they are so kind with my cat and dogs. I've seen Dr Rose and Dr Ignacio many times, today we saw Dr Wilson and she was lovely. She offered good advice, was happy to take my budget into consideration, and was so gentle with my cat that she didn't even notice getting her shot. This vet is a little more expensive than others, but they are worth every penny. The vet assistants who run the front desk and provide care are also amazing and are always happy to provide you with an update on your pet for overnight stays.

I have waited a month for our appointment that should happen tomorrow. They called me today to confirm, and to explain that I will have to wait outside while my cat is in the appointment. I don't have a car, tomorrow will be raining, and I understand the extra care with the COVID-19, but there isn't a single room where people can wait, using masks with a 2m distance? I have waited one month, and at the beginning, it was not that bad, but I am happy that I find another place that has a room where I can wait for a couple of minutes while a veterinarian looks at my cat.

I started going to this vet hospital when we got our purebred dachshund, as i was told they offered the best service possible. The vet assured me that my little guy would not put on any weight after his neutering, and guess what, he did. Within weeks he was a little tubby. Then later he developed Cushings Disease, which i am not sure was actually the correct diagnosis, as all expensive and harsh medication did not help him at all. We had to listen to constant criticism about his weight every time we brought him in. My little guy died of congestive heart failure a while ago, which could have been due to the Cushings. We took him to another vet/clinic when this happened and he passed away. He had an enlarged heart and heart valve problems, which were never noticed at Granville island clinic, and with all the expensive tests over the years, you think they could detected this. Only after 2 visits to a new vet, these problems were found, but it was too late, and he did not make it. He died and it was a horrific death. Shortly after this we got a letter from Granville Island Veterinary Clinic, saying that he had showed signs of dental disease a while back, and this could lead to organ and heart failure, etc. well, guess what, a little too late as this was never mentioned or discussed with us, at any of our vet visits. This potentially could have saved his little life. Then when our first dog, our Shepherd was put to sleep, the vet was very nice about it, and supportive, etc. but when we went back to the vet, she had no idea who we were, etc. Anyway, they are totttallllyyyyy overpriced as well, and i think for the $$, the fact that we received misdiagnoses on different occasions after multiple expensive and extensive tests, etc. is a bit ludicrous. i would not recommend this vet at all personally.

My cat was attacked by a raccoon, and we went to the ER across the street initially as it was late at night. It was also a holiday weekend, so I didn't think I would be able to get an appointment with a regular vet anywhere, but this hospital was open (on the holiday itself), and had appointments available. The waiting room is nice, the staff is nice and friendly, and the wait wasn't very long. The vet I saw was very personable and her explanations were straightforward, she definitely put me at ease. The pricing is very reasonable as well. I will say his tail splint did fall off the next day, but I was able to get an appointment the same day, and they didn't charge me for the replacement, although they did charge me for a recheck, as they did kind of do that, so I wasn't too upset about that. I would recommend it.

This place saved my dog's life when he was 5 years old (I had taken him to other vets previously and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Granville Island Vet was able to quickly identify the issue and help my dog). It's also the only place that he for some reason never got nervous to walk into. He always happily followed the vet to the back room, which is something he never did at any other hospital I tried. A good friend of mine had volunteered here and she vouched for the good service in the back room where the public can't see what they're doing- she said everyone in the back were just as sweet and gentle as they were at the front. I recently had to put down my dog at 15 years old (same dog), and the vet and staff were all incredibly compassionate and I can't thank them enough for their sensitivity through this tough time.

I was a long term fan of the Granville Island Vet. However, things have really changed there. I was extremely disappointed in the lack of knowledgeable, timely and caring advice by the vets here after my dog suddenly became Diabetic. I was told there were no other options to monitoring his sugars except by painful needle pokes. I did a quick search on line and within 5 min, I found that the painless Freestyle Libre was a very accurate alternative to the painful pokes my dog would have had to endure daily. I easily found the research to support its accurate use in dogs. When I spoke with my vet as to why she couldn’t offer this to me as an alternative, she surprisingly claimed ignorance. I don’t know, but if I can get information online in 5 min, I am surprised, as a professional, she wouldn’t know about this system and offer it as a painless, cheaper, easier to manage alternative, especially when really needed for my brittle Diabetic Dog. Also, I have encountered extremely poor response to how to manage the hyperglycaemic episodes. When I called the office before closing, reporting a sugar of 38!, all the vet advised (without looking at my dogs chart) - was a short : ‘ give the same insulin dose and call your Dr in the am. Really? If a human was told- give the same insulin dose for a sugar of 38, and call your own Dr in the am- they could have gone into ketoacidosis and died! The same for my dog. Without any sense of professional responsibility and care, I was sloughed off to wait for the morning. (If he made it that far with a sugar that high) I am very disappointed in the lack of knowledge, professionalism and compassionate care. I’ll be looking for a new vet.

This was my first visit to the hospital, and I was very impressed. The staff are friendly and the vet took his time to get to know both my new kitten and me. I had a terrible time at my old clinic. Granville Island is one I would recommend without hesitation. They are terrific, and they truly care about both their animal and human clients.

I wish I could write a review for every new puppy owner in British Columbia to see. I took my dog in who had a cough which was previously diagnosed as kennel cough from A pet hospital near where I life. The cough had been going on for weeks. The doctor scared us and told us our puppy has a collapsing tranchea and she needs X-RAYS right away. $300 later the doctor told us that indeed she will have collapsing tranchea for the rest of their life she will not be able to breath and eventually die from suffocation’s. Took the X-rays to 3 different vets after and it was NOT diagnosed as a collapsing tranchea. Puppy coughed for another week and has now recovered from the cold and is No longer coughing. What is even more disgusting is that the doctor watched me cry my eyes out in the clinic while she gave me a misdiagnosis to simply make money off me. My boyfriend took our puppy there to get her shots shortly after and there was another doctor who pulled up the scans and there were some photos that the other doctor HAD NOT SHOWN US that showed puppies trachea even more normal. I am disgusted with how I was treated and I really hope that new puppy owners can read this and remember that vets pray on new puppy owners who are uneducated. They know you will do anything and pay any money to save your pet but they are also big sales men and not like regular doctors so remember THAT!

We recently lost our Maine Coon cat Tigger to renal disease and I can't express our gratitude to the staff and the Dr's for their kindness, generosity and dedication to making Tigger's last days and months " quality". Unequivocally, they are professional, 100% patient-centred and responsive to any question or inquiry. Totally unsolicited and in honour of Tigger's passing, Granville Island Veterinary Hospital made a donation to Guelph University in veterinary renal research. When we first brought our dog here (because of all of the rave reviews) we thought this place was amazing. Our dog had broken his toe and they took x-rays and bandaged him up saying we would have to come back every week to change it. So great we thought it will heal up and all will be good!!! Well, week by week we brought him in...only to be told that if it doesn't heal soon he will need the toe amputated and then you know if you amputate a toe you would have to amputate the foot and then that means the leg obviously. So here we are SCARED out of our minds that all because of a broken toe our dog is going to need a leg amputation if it doesn't heal!?!?!?!? Not to mention we were paying for antibiotics so it wouldn't get an infection (over 100 a bottle) and paying 100+ a week for the bandage changes AND paying for x-rays...so our bill was stacking up but still we thought they were great. WELL, we were flying to Alberta to go visit family and flew our dog with us as well as we didn't want to kennel him with this bandage/cast on his foot. While we were visiting family we had to take our dog to the vet there to change the bandage as it needed to be changed once a week (the funny part is we were worried this small town vet clinic would not be as good as the one in vancouver and mess up our dogs foot...boy were we wrong!!!!) so the small town vet clinic changed his bandage/cast and then asked us what all the vet's in vancouver had told us so we said everything (about the amputation if it doesnt heal, how it's apparently not healing at all, how he might be getting an infection) and the small town vet let us in on a few things FIRST OF ALL granville island veterinary was not wrapping his bandage/cast right!!!! they were actually causing MORE damage and causing MAJOR rubbing on his skin that was causing HUGE irritation and possible infections!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECONDLY there is NO WAY IN HECK we would have to do any sort of amputation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a load of BS that Granville Island Veterinary told us (we are assuming because of the fact that hello amputation costs big bucks so $$$$ for them!!!!) So now fast forward a few months later, our dog is HEALED he had a proper bandage/cast his toe healed fine he got no infections and biggest of all NO AMPUTATION which granville vet was telling us the whole time he would need!!!!!!!!!!!! We are BEYOND disgusted with Granville Island Veterinary. They lied to us, were wrapping our dogs toe/foot badly so the toe would not fully heal (and therefore leed to amputation) and most of all THEY WERE NOT TAKING 100% CARE OF OUR DOG AND INSTEAD CAUSING HIM PROLONGED PAIN! As if!!!! The whole point of a vet is to care first and foremost about the animals and take all measures to help them! Not lie to the animals owners to get more money! We wasted SO MUCH money at Granville Island Vet ($100 per bottle of meds, $100+ for bandage/cast WEEKLY, and then HUNDREDS of dollars on x-rays- which they never even showed us anyways...HELLO MAJOR ALERT!) All in all NEVER take your pet here, they will SEEM like they are helping when in turn they are trying to just PROLONG any treatments so you will end up PAYING THEM more!!!! The most disgusting horrible service from people who say they "Care about animals" You are disgusting people, you should rethink you job choices if you are in it for the money and not for the love of helping animals. You are BS.

Highly recommend. First time on recommendation. Emergency surgery on Christmas eve. Dr Chan very nice and caring. Dr. Schnarr excellent. We live on the N Shore, but might be worth the travel!

My experience here was wonderful. I hadn’t been to the this vets office for 2 years as my dog hadn’t need anything ???? In between my last visit here and today I did have to take him to the Vancouver emergency vet hospital over the holidays and had THE WORST experience in all my years of owning animals (the treated my dog as an object and I felt like they treated me like bank machine). So when my dogs leg starting hurting and it became apparent he needed a vet I called Granville Island Vet as I remember them as a kind office. I’m glad I did! I was nervous to take him in but from the time I called Teresa at the front desk was great at helping me get an apt and even called when a sooner one became available. Buster saw Dr. Rose, who chatted on the phone with me while I was in the parking lot before Buster was taken in. She explained what she planned on doing and would call me once she did so. When she called me she let me know her findings of the exam and her suggested treatment. We are trying a treatment plan and she’ll follow up in a week to see if more is needed as she didn’t feel his current situation warranted more tests/X-rays. I was shocked at this as because in my previous experience with another office it was a do all the test kind of approach. The vet nurse brought my dog out and explained the medication to me and everyone was so lovely. I wrote such a long review because if anyone is trying to look for a vet where you don’t feel taken advantage of and that your pets best interest is put first this was my experience today. It felt weird to sit in a parking lot while my dog was inside but Dr Rose and everyone at the office has really put my mind at ease. Thank you all very much! ????

Dr. Bill (Ignacio) and the team and Granville Island Vet are spectacular. Yeah, my dog hates it there, smells scare him but he is treated like a Prince. They are kind, gentle, understanding g and also super professional. It’s not the cheapest place, but I think we both get excellent t value for the money. It’s a great location, cozy space and always a smile to be had. I’ve been going here since 2009 with my current pet Cheeky and prior to that with another loved pet.

Yesterday was our first visit and I couldn't have been more impressed. Dr. Anna Wallace was absolutely fantastic with my very elderly dog. She was knowledgeable, gentle and really understanding of my big guys particular needs. The front end staff was super friendly and efficient. The clinic itself was clean, welcoming and had an upbeat vibe. And to top off my already positive experience, my bill was less than what I'd imagined! With my dog, that's pretty rare.

Granville Island Veterinary Hospital year after year receives the award for best veterinary practice with good reason. My various cats and dogs have been patients there since the early nineties. The front desk staff are outstanding and always so pleasant. They are exceptional listeners and provide a calming atmosphere, empathy and sincere sympathy when sad occasions arise. There are enough vets there that if yours is off duty someone else will be there for you. They're open 7 days a week. My vet Dr. Rose does not "pooh pooh" my holistic approach combining practicality and science. She emanates genuine caring for my two beloved dogs.
